Also, hurray at killing oozes freeing people now:
XXX is violently ejected from within the oozeling as it dies!
PS: I have a gemstone you should buy, stranger 😆
PPS: I didn't actually know oozelings could eat you too
Boreal forest and outside of the ME are both huntable precap, just pick your spots and try to 1v1 it. I've seen Keruta doing the gigas villages as well but he might just be flexing his cleric muscles on people
Can't warriors use wtrick appraise to check current stance of target? I'm not in-game to look, but I thought that trick did that... and I have wanted to try to incorporate that into my feint macro, but never put in the effort.
I think tackle works best on them, but not really anything else, like they will expend time to stand up.. I usually just fury them immediately and they squish, otherwise ugh
You have been tasked to suppress niveous giant warg activity in the Hinterwilds near Cold River. You need to kill 13 of them to complete your task.

Guess it's Eldurhaart time! The bounty people have spoken.
New Challenge unlocked from Hinterwilds: Liquid herbs be expensive....... I just replenished most of my survivalist kit herbs at the Sylverrand herb shop that does all liquid potions and the bill for my warrior was like 300K and my cleric was 250k...... Any other full liquid herbalists or should I be leaning more on the extractor ability? This definitely wasnt an issue in OTF.
zul and teras
Are herb prices that varied?
No sure, I need to see what the difference between a solid herb and a liquid herb is
have you compared to Pinefar yet
pinefar is very costly
We can’t afford pinefar herbs now that HW loot has been ruined by gemstones locusts
Step 1: find legendary
Step 2: sell for 400m
Step 3: buy pinefar herbs
please use my term "gemtrifiers"
Is there a way to remove leeches?
Hold a dagger base weapon and PRY leech. It takes a few goes at it since there are multiple leeches.
My script for this is called standbyme
Lol awesome
The best way in RL to remove leeches is salt. Having grown up in the sticks, I've done it more than once, though it's not that common they latch on. Some won't, actually we called the ones that would, blood suckers, while leeches were for fishing. I lived next to a trout stream where the leeches grew to 6" long. Also, they inject an anticoagulant into you, so when you remove them you bleed pretty good.
TMI?
i just let the leeches feed. +50 health recovery lol
you know, leeches have a bad rep for no good reason. there are basically no diseases (outside of some rare situations) that a leech can give you. compare that to mosquitoes, ticks, ugh. i wish they were all leeches instead
edit: i did just learn about Aeromonas hydrophila infections, but have never heard of that happening to anyone. even so, significantly better than malaria, lyme, etc.
I like to let them feed because it gives my dwarf tattoo a bit of exercise.
Loot is fully trash this morning. Running major loot boost in a group finding 1 item for every 5 kills and it may be a garbage gem
Yeah it's over. Gemstones ruined HW loot. We had a good run.
I guess the silver lining is that it makes hunting for gemstones/dust free of the hassle of unloading loot.
I actually hit item count limit with skins/gems before I ran into encumbrance/storage issues.
Hive loot is fantastic right now, but you gotta be able to skin gud
Just a friendly reminder to all the ambushers. This isn't targeting anyone specific, lately I've come across a dozen or so instances. If you're hiding when you hunt, turning on your obvious hiding flag will help others not to jump into the middle of your hunt, also should help prevent mechanics like berserk that target/engage/chase enemies into areas if there are no PCs there.
With the exception of a couple of folks who got nasty, and one who insisted on attacking/ambushing me during a berserk, it's been pretty civil. There's no shortage of critters in the Hinterwilds, and I'm never intentionally steeling your kills. Always feels bad to me to wipe out a room of critters, then see someone come out of hiding with a sigh. Easy solution! Makes hunting better for everyone. 🙂
It'll also keep the bots from jumping in and stealing your kills. The scripts account for Obvious Hiders and act accordingly to move rooms.
I just search Myharl's kills that he wont get back to, so don't attack him, attack his wallet like I do 😈 (but seriously who would attack myharl are you kidding me)
I have my flag on and I've had more scripters come in and kill my room in the last week than I can remember since being back
Not that I'm complaining, they've all apologized 😆
If someone doesn’t have obvious hiding on I absolutely do not want to hear a peeeeeeep out of them if I poach them while they’re hidden. It shouldn’t even be flaggable; that messaging should be game behavior.
Dang it, darn forums ruining gifs
Just my opinion, but someone’s hiding, and pride themselves on not being seen. RP wise, They’re doing a really bad job of it if they come out of hiding with a sigh, after you kill a critter.
They literally achieved exactly what they were hoping for, then gave themselves up 😂
If anything, they should start toying with the non hiders.
Stalk them, let out a whistle here or there. Subdue a creature.
Make people start freaking out while they hunt 😬
If neither of those things appeal to them, then it seems like they’re griefing just to grief
People who ambush without using a disk or obvious hiding are just looking for pretext for PvP
Note to self, add random evoke 1030 when you hear a whistle.
None of this is stuff i do, so seems moot, but nothing screams “im scared of the wind” like randomly evoking 1030 when you hear a whistle.
I ambush without using a disk, and I don't use obvious hiding because it belabors the point of being unseen, but I also don't care if my room gets poached both in general, and even more so if I'm hiding. As Myharl said, there are plenty of creatures to go around.
I just have macros to swap ObviousHiding on and off
I believe some of the wander checks for a disk in the room, too. I have not had anyone been nasty to me, and if I see someone jump out, I'll move on... but yeah. If the player/character is intentionally hiding and leaving no sign of their presence.... that's their choice and IMHO accept the outcome.
has anyone found a prismatic ball of ether?
Berserk mechanics honor a hidden player with the obvious hiding flag? Really? That is a... pretty nice, mechanical, technicaly very OOC but mechanically nice feature. I didn't know berserk did that, but I don't use it in crowded areas.
I know that TRACK by rangers does not track creatures into rooms with players, and am 95% sure it accounts for hidden players, but not 100% certain of that.
Umm. Ouch. Now you're making me check for mine. I just checked my looters for the evening, and no, they do not have it. Do you know when/where it was dropped?
nope i lost it on my wizard i'm guessing yesterday or the day before looks like nomarked drop was off. I don't know if I put it in a robe on the ground somewhere or what but most likely around fwi or hinterwilds
found one of my rods in a robe laying in gc so I might have lost it there and someone picked it up
I'm guessing the obvious hiding thing does something to whatever status berserk is looking at to see if someone is in the adjacent room. There are a few instances it seems not to work in (which is why I said, "help prevent"). If a valravn does it's "nightmare" thing and the stun breaks before the beserk does, and the other I've run into is if a gigas tosses you mid-berserk into a room with someone in it. In both this instances I guess no check is ever made, so the berserk just keeps going. 😄
Oh, and I'm guessing this is a feature, and did let me save someone the other night, but if I'm berserking and about to chase, where it would normally ignore a room with someone in it, if they are stunned, it can run me right in there with a instant non-focused mstrike.
Yeah, if folks don't care, I don't. But odds are, if you don't care, I don't know you don't care. 😉
I use a disk and have obvious hiding but still get a lot of people coming into the room I'm in and start blowing up creatures. More often than not I'll say "hello" and they'll apologizes. It can be a madhouse out there so I dont let it bother me.
Personally, I PEER before moving into any room. If the room has NPCs and no disk/obvious hiding, I come in guns blazing. On occasion, this means that someone entered the room in the split second between my PEER and move/attack...which I always apologize for.
Same. All we can do is be responsive, try to be polite (even if they're not), and yell "Sorry" if stuff happens. I think I've yelled Sorry once or twice to Perigourd, too (if you are hider / non-disker / not-obvious hider I've seen in Gigas village once or twice. Definitely P someone that I've seen in the screen scroll and try to move)
It happens to me often, even with a disk and obvious hiding on. I don't get spicy, generally speaking... unless the player is obviously afk and it happens several times.
Yeah. I feel like the regular Hintewilds crew knows what's up, communicates, and doesn't run into a lot of tension over such matters usually. Despite Cold River not being an actual "town" (though I'll always advocate for us to have all the amenities), I think we are often one of the most community-based and welcoming towns in GS; very much a live and let live sort of dynamic and everyone does their own thing. Cold River feels sort of like the flip-side of one of the starting towns—a post-cap town, I guess? Ultimately, I'd like for everyone to enjoy their time in Cold River and find an exciting and lucrative experience while hunting the Hinterwilds. It is one of the largest (if not the largest) hunting ground in the game, with multiple locales, and a lot of space to breath even on the crowded days.
Anyway, I felt like it was worth mentioning since the hiding/hunting issue has popped up several times for me with the recent influx of new visitors and transient hunters heading North, and there are some simple steps to take to help mitigate that tension where it does exist.
I usually have obvious hiding on but do forget sometimes. I've ambushed since the very beginning, way before the obvious hiding flag came out, and had gotten used to losing kills while I was hidden. Like Perigourd, I really don't mind. There's always the next kill, right around the corner, especially in HW!In other words, if you're going to complain about being poached, use the flag, have one of those stalkerish disks, etc.
With HW being super spammy now, you pretty much need to run into a room with your guns blazing. Obviously I won’t attack if I see someone hidden, but it’s not realistic to ask us to wait 10 seconds to make sure someone isn’t trying to ambush without the obvious hiding flag on. Too dangerous now.
The amount of times i've poached via script in HW is like, 0. Well 1 and it was a non-flag, non-disk person (so i have a negative amount of caring for that one. I'm not gonna shake down a random hurt mob like "WHO DID THIS TO YOU? ARE THEY STILL HERE?")
I have blown by a room, had it be empty, gone "oh there was a shield maiden in there i needed" type se, incant 720 by hand and....the room was not empty when i got back a fair bit
Folks in HW have been pretty good. I know I have occasionally created some wanton slaughter when tagged / quaked / knocked down / RT hit something when running through a room, get hit, and then react. When I can get out of RT to move on, I do, but as others said: in a swarmy room, it's swords and bolts blazing. With my warrior's shield riposte, I react with a shield bash 100% of the time if I'm hit, and that's a 2 second RT (I think).
Someone attacking you (Myharl) while berserking seems like an outlier. There does seem to be a warrior often in a gigas village who is often unresponsive, even while dead, healed, chrismed, and raised... maybe that character irritated the one who attacked you one too many times, but... that's still not an excuse for them.
Or they just didn't like me. lol. That outlier doesn't really bug me, I just assume they were having a bad day and found a target to take their frustration out on. The few times I see someone come out of hiding and sigh though, that bugs me since I have to assume that means I've done it several times without knowing (because they were hiding). Flip that flag. 🏴
I blame Myharl for killing me only for comedic factor and to tease and now I feel bad ! Wondering how I can double down I this joke.
Haha! Well, at least it wasn't xazkruvrixis. There's nothing quite like having an ally get sympathied for 10 rounds by the wyrm, having zero wounds, full health, and getting bopped with deathmetal for 4 damage and instant death. ⚔️ (Would actually be funny sans the 8-9 hour wait.)
just gotta say my fav part of the entire quest is || that one village of gigas being chill with me now||, and I never wanna screw that up 😛
Wymslayers respect.
i followed a packmother in there the other day and was all ||"oh, I'm scared to fight in here and ruin my deal with these peeps, um, bye"||
Picking on Myharl because you’re having a bad day seems like an awful idea. It’s like trying to bully the Rock
I mean... I wouldn't mess with a towering 10.5" hulking wall of muscle battleraging, but Elanthians can be weird. 🤣
Myharl ain't so scary. I've seen him run from valravns... a lot. 😛
Between berserk chases and valravan "bolts" there are days that Fjallarhaart feels like being stuck in a pinball machine.
it was a highlight moment - very satisfying for someone who uses evil eye lol
Every time I have fought the dragon with Myharl he has gotten 1-tapped, which makes me feel really, really good about myself.
I think you're right! 😆 Those SSR attacks are no joke! I've watched them take out every Wyrmslayer at least once.
If I'm not just grinding, I tend to use ;wander <creature name> and it does me fairly well to avoid poaching others. However, if I do accidentally disable/kill your mob then you're welcome!
(gazes west)
You were too fast for me to fix it! :p
The alchemist or the gigas should sell some kind of container item for fragments that lets you store x9999 of quills/feathers/spheres/idols but counts it as a single, weightless item. even better if it lets you inferno/altar the items with a wave or point without having to do it one by one.
huh will (some?) of those stack in a bag of holding, at least?
How many times are you planning to summon the sybil that that’s even a problem lol
They do. The feathers, idols, quills, etc. anyway
your asks are always over the top lol
oh nice, finally a use for bag of holding!
uh,,does the bag of holding not have a function to change worn location?
boooo... great idea, but having only 3 functional belt slots killed it ;sob:
It does, back/belt/shoulder
hmmmm
All I can envision is Etheirys having a premium account where every character slot is occupied by an Ascension-capable character with Gemstones unlocked.
i'm pretty sure you have more characters than me :p
i'm waiting for the day dreaven decides to ascension his army!
also could we get some icemule lockers in town pls?
You can pay to have it changed at DR.
Just saying, after all this time I only have a stash of 25 valravn quills and would never even think about how they interact with a Bag of Holding or how we could get something implemented to bundle them!
25 is already a lot. if you have 25 of each sybil item, that's 75 items right there. regardless of whether that's in your inventory or in your locker, that's a substantial chunk of the item limit!
I keep my excess HW drops priced max in Myharl's office in his shop. I also keep a stock priced at 1 silver for folks who need them.
have had no issues with them stacking in my BOH:

It is an enhancive item:
It provides a boost of 1 to Max Spirit.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 40 times.
It provides a boost of 6 to Two Weapon Combat Bonus.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 13 times.
It seems to have a lot of enhancive charges remaining.
It will persist after its last enhancive charge has been expended.
It appears to weigh about 4 pounds.
It is estimated to be worth about 600,000 silvers.
It is predominantly crafted of vaalorn.
It is a simple project (5 difficulty) for an adventurer to modify.
It has a permanently unlocked loresong by Florania.```
Now *there's* an unusual Hinterwilds find.
Huh, neat a shield-maiden can hop on a mastodon. Wonder if mastodon's can spawn on their own or if they only spawn with a rider, and is that spawned rider always a berserker.
It was a whole lot of fun back when the mastadons could ride each other around.
For the mastodon's, at least.
and all the gigas (maybe not skalds?) can jump on the mastodons
Yeah, berserkers and shield-maidens can mount the mastodons.
Never seen a skald, disciple, or mutant do so.
Disciples and mutants don't typically cohabitate with mastodons, so that's less surprising
"Won't you help me find my lost ring?" calls the voice of a terrified halfling, coming from the southeast.
What was this?
Go help it and find out
i forgot they did that been a bit since i've seen them yelling things
How often do these storm happen? I had to use the alchemist slush for the first time... was out for ~5 minutes and Hypothermia was at 60
it's a constant growing debuff
I believe If your resting at village center it doesn't reset between hunts it just stops growing (unless someone lights a fire) it resets over time if your inside
I know about the debuff.. but tonight it seemed to be a 'storm' and the messaging seemed different / stronger. I went from 0 to Hypothermia 60 in 5 minutes (maybe 7 minutes... but a very short period of time)
I did wonder if I had left a character logged out in town center, but one came from Solhaven and another was at a table in FWI for a while
oh, that's nothing Ive ever really noticed in that case
The weather is variable in the Hinterwilds. There are frequent storms, but also periods where the gale is relatively calm. Hypothermia will continue to stack, but it stacks a lot faster during a storm. There's a ridiculous number of environmental messages associated with the various weather conditions in the Hinterwilds (it took me like a week to capture them all for highlighting), and you can also look at the sky. If there is a storm going on, you won't be able to see the aurora.
||As a side note, I'm still testing on this, but I think I figured out that Bittergale only comes out when the skies are clear. His messaging mentions him looking at the aurora, and so far, I've not seen him come out during a storm, that that might prove to be a way to know when the frostling might be showing up.
(Side Side Note: I suspect this also has some bearing on the Road/runestones recharging as well, but need a lot more data to analyze, but I'm starting to think that exposure to the aurora may be what recharges them).||
Yep! If you are indoors, at a bonfire, or near a campfire that someone set up (or alternatively just not in the HW) then hypothermia will tick down pretty quickly. Frostling slush/warding will immediately reset it to zero at the next check if you have hypothermia when it is applied.
Also, if you are resting outdoors in town (without a campfire), hypothermia will not stack, however it will also not tick down. Meaning if you go to rest in village center with 80 hypothermia, it will still be at 80 when you leave no matter how long you stay there.
Lastly, the campfires are supposed to give you a buff to protect you for an X amount of time against the cold environs (based on how well they are built), but that feature isn't currently working.
huh, had no idea it was that complex, cool stuff (get it)

Nope, it had just walked into the room. This isn't the first time I've had this happen to me either with critters.
Maybe it thought the berserker was riding it, lol. I've noticed a lot of weirdness there over the years.
When the berserker or a shield-maiden is riding a mastodon, they will both leave the room. I'll throw in a bug report 🙂
I'm just hypothesizing that the game tweaked out and thought the prone berserker was somehow riding the mastodon so the engine went "can't compute"
Oh yeah I got you, appreciate the response and idea. I submitted a bug report in game.
What room did this happen in, know off hand? There was someone else who reported issues with DIVERT and the system seemed to think to obvious direction was "closed". Might be the same issue here. I'm wondering if this is happening in front of the gigas runestones, wich both might be seeing as a viable direction, but closed.
Added an advguard3 tag to the mapdb for the alchemist.

Hmm... I don't think there's anything in that room but a fishing boat, if I recall correctly. If it had been one southwest, I might have suspected the river. Thanks! That sated my curiosity as to whether it was trying to divert to an actual location that was causing it to fail. Edit: was a fishing net.
Yup, he had plenty of places to run! 🙂
The river really needs to freeze solid seasonally, so we can go ice fishing, and cross on foot. All these signs of fishing when the river is flowing with ice, doesn't seems like we aren't in fishing season.
...but only when it's really, really cold up there.
Huh. Can alchemist also be used to get bounties? (i.e, get the creature type, be told the lost item, etc)
Yes. I never talk to the tavern guy for any bounties in HW
In fact I was able to successfully avoid the tavern for years until the artificer decided to home up in there
Skins [82]: an inky black valravn plume (25), a handful of undansormr scales (2), a niveous warg pelt (27), a woolly mastodon trunk (28)```
```You ask Bramblefist if he would like to buy the contents of a snowy white case with a tidal pearl latch.
Bramblefist takes the snowy white case, inspects the contents carefully and removes the items he is interested in. Bramblefist hands it back to you and says, "I don't have that much spare silver, so I will have to give you a Northwatch bond note for it."
Bramblefist removes the items and hands you a note for 36,649 silvers.```
There comes a time to seriously evaluate whether it's worth continuing to skin on a silver-per-pound-of-encumbrance basis...
seeing as those are sub 500 avg, I would say yes. 1k+ or not worth it
...huh, mind blown. I knew we could ask the lookout, but stuck to the tavernkeeper because he moved around less.
pelts and trunks are totally in the gutter but the scales and plumes are still halfway decent until loot cap kicks them down
Quality matters too, if you can't aim your strikes, or kill without wounds, the quality of your skins will be much lower.
You need to sing with all the voices of the mountain, and paint with all the colors of the wind.
I turn cheap pelts into warrior sheaths
Coming to HESS 2026
When Hinterwilds loot has tanked enough that I'm finding gems I kind of forgot existed, like tiny nightsky tourmalines and mottled green jaspers.
I don't compartmentalize my loot values by category, but between bounties, skins, gems and droploot, and boxes, I've continued to consistently pull roughly 200k per hunt. It's marginally lower than norm (give or take 25-50k), but not dramatically. About the only time I see bigger numbers are either around the start of a month or with a boost. Maybe that small downward margin is more noticeable if loot hunting?
The skins have suffered the most
I pull in roughly the same amount per hunt no matter what because I just go until either I'm breaching inventory limits (happens when fairly deep into loot cap because then not as many boxes drop) or containers are full (when not into loot cap), so I can't really judge by total take per hunt.
But I do know when I haven't seen some 20 silver gem in weeks and suddenly I find it again. 😄 Or, conversely, when I haven't seen one of the top end gems that can purify to 20k silver in days (ebon winternight sapphires, pastel-hued wintersbite pearls, nival everfrost shards, faceted stormcloud alexandrites).
my observation is around how quickly I'm hitting loot cap...as someone who never even felt a soft cap before. Obviously I'm hunting more due to gemstones, but not all that much more. I'm still resting to fresh and clear between each hunt. The main difference is instead of 5-10 minute hunts, I'm doing 15 minute major loot boost hunts. Just a little suspicious how quickly I am seeing heavy soft cap.
You mean like how it sort of jumps from not-capped-at-all to really-deep-into-soft-cap?
that may be part of it, sure - I think I've definitely seen that - but still I wouldn't expect that as quickly as I've seen it (even if that transition is happening alarmingly fast as well)
the plausible explanation is that I was always pushing into the soft cap but not enough to notice - and now that I'm hunting like 50% more, I'm hitting it hard and early...but I started noticing it sooner than even that explanation would make me expect
This is the first month I've really bothered to track silver gains and my baby monk definitely fell off once she hit 15.4m by my accounting.
But there is somewhat a wrench in all that--well, actually, two wrenches. On one hand, I'm passing off the highest value gems (only things that can purify to 10k+ base value) to my bard, so there are quite a bit of unrealized gains, as it were. (I guess, in the future, I could account for them by appraising the gems before passing them off and then manually adding that to the tally.)
On the other hand, I of course have max Trading benefits (and race in my monk's case too), so I figured that the fact that I can only track actual silver gains instead of base silver gains would be enough to offset that high value gem factor. It doesn't seem to be, though.
In other words, I think I'm still making more by loot cap measurements than my own flawed-methodology records say I do.
February 25, 2026 edit: The severe flaw in all of the above is that it turns out Trading always did count toward loot cap. Yikes! It's unclear at this time whether race bonus does, though.
there's also the factor that loot in HW is worse this month, and thus it should take longer to hit loot cap if that's the only factor that changed (it isn't, but just as another facet of this that is weird)
and yet 15.4m should be~~ so little soft cap that you can't even tell the difference~~ no soft cap at all....unless your number is way off from actual
Yeah, I'm thinking it's entirely possible I'm off by like 5m or something crazy. Who knows, maybe it's even more.
if you're off by 5m and your actual is ~20m, assuming soft cap is linear (big assumption), that's only 21% into the soft cap so should your loot really "fall off" even at 20m?
I should to some extent, sure. Don't know if it should be (or even is) as dramatic as it feels, though.
But, hey, on the bright side, less loot means I can stay out even longer fishing for Gemstones.
20% is maybe where I'd think loot cap first becomes slightly noticeable unless you're tracking very closely
For me when I first started feeling it, it felt like 50% loot cap
That said I have no experience with loot cap so maybe that's normal?
I mean, I'm not sure it's as slow moving as you think... I'm not sure it isn't either, of course. For all we know, 25% of the way past soft cap could be a 10% penalty or it could already be a 50% penalty.
Nothing says it has to be a direct correlation of 25% penalty.
and yet very quickly after it started feeling like 50% soft cap, it progressed to what now feels like 90% loot cap...and I have not hunting all that much more, now doing most of the looting on my 2nd account
if it were frontloaded and you quickly felt a 50% drop in loot, you would then expect a relatively slow progression to hard cap.
But yeah, who knows and my data is "feels", which is of course totally unreliable.
So I figured out the fire in the tavern does something to cure hypothermia. Now I' trying to figure out why my AS is so low in HW.
oh... been hunting in ME so much, I guess Symbol Supremacy doesn't work here. That's 13 AS missing. Still seems lower than it should be
You probably got hit with the organ buff a few times if you're hunting ME regularly
If your weapon is sanctified you also get AS from that
Thanks. that helps put the puzzle together. I went from 630-670 down to 590
someone also mentioned I should be using a balm from the general store. What's weird is I don't see anywhere on the wiki where it actually says WHAT hypothermia does
Supremacy works fine.
https://gswiki.play.net/Category:Hinterwilds_creatures
You can increase your Hypothermia tolerance with Physical Fitness, Survival, and Resist Elements. The baseline expectation to combat the wind is 1x Survival. The damage is increased by being wet and by the duration of time you stay outside. Swimming in the Issenflow River applies a Frigid Waters debuff that increases Hypothermia accrual to 2x. You can go into an "inside" room to reduce the environmental effect. Tip: Inside rooms will say "Obvious exits" instead of "Obvious paths." You can use campfires to reduce the environmental effect or possibly go visit a fireplace such as in the Tavern.
Both Hypothermia and the Frigid Waters debuff from the Issenflow River will show up in the Debuff window and do show up under SPELL ACTIVE.
Frostling warding provides temporary protection from Hypothermia. Sparkfinger, the alchemist (Lich# 29876), will apply 15 minutes worth of frostling warding when you order a flask of frostling slush at the price of 5 gigas artifact fragments. The duration of frostling warding does not stack, however it is possible to obtain a full hour of protection by solving an intermittent puzzle in the Boreal Forest.
Hypothermia recovery messaging
A semblance of warmth returns to your body as the bitter cold of the Hinterwilds retreats.```
I suppose its not quite where you would expect it
The halfling alchemist in Cold River, Sparkfinger, is working on a concoction that requires a sprig of Imaera's Lace found in the Hinterwilds near Cold River. These samples must be in pristine condition. You have been tasked to retrieve 10 samples.
Imaera's Lace is missing from the mapdb forageables information. Not sure if this is a bug or we need to recrawl the area.
It should be in the hinge in Ojandhaart. (No clue if it's missing from something, I never use those, but just in case you want to still get it)
Interesting - I re-crawled HW a few weeks ago and updated the MapDB. If that Lace is in the room but not in the DB let me know and I'll try to update it today.
Maybe the apostrophe is messing up something with crawling?
Are you hunting the pits? That's the only place supremacy would have an impact(or fjallarhaatt or the grove when the undead sneak out). I'm guessing no if your having hypothermia since the pits are inside
Well, Fjallarhart would too with the valravns, draugr. That. ^
I went through with forage sense myself, checked a couple of rooms in each zone. Nothing. I clicked the lace link in the bounty window each time too. Nothing.
If you sense it, (should in in the Ojandhaart hinge), you can't usethe link for it. Have to type "FORAGE Imaera's Lace". Apostrophes in text strings that are being parsed causes issues.
d100(Open): 69
You forage briefly and manage to find a sprig of Imaera's Lace!
Roundtime: 5 sec.
Roundtime changed to 1 second.```
Ok so henge is the only room, great
Clicking the link works though
is it in the mapdb for that room?
Yes, but since its inside it doesnt show up
I forgot about the problem room. 1 room in all of hinterwilds with several forageables that are unique to it.
I use betazzherb myself but I do recall that herb always gives me issues b/c of the apostrophe or capitalization or both
I added a workaround for betazzherb2 to avoid that hassle!
herb = "Imaera's Lace" if herb =~ /sprig of Imaera's Lace|Imaera’s Lace|sprig of Imaera's lace|Imaera’s lace|sprig of imaera's lace|imaera’s lace|sprig of imaera's Lace|imaera’s Lace/```
So 6 bounty foragables that can only be found in 1 room
seems to be intended as the same problem exists across the game and this new area was designed that way as well - I know it has to do with terrain and such but there's never been any effort to fix it anywhere aside from maybe the creation of EVOKE 604.
They helped out in the Atoll (KF). The 4 grottos had one room each, but they were expanded to 2 rooms each for herbs found only in them.
ahh I guess I'm wrong then - forgot about that - still seems quite low on their list of things to fix though
True
For the wyrm, would it help if only the grouped people were possibilities for wyrmreach so other soloists could still help?
Acknowledging that I'm being a broken record here: Decreasing the wyrm spawn timer significantly and also keeping the natural spawn timer and idol summons independent of one another would make the wyrm encounter more palatable to those struggling with the wyrm. The battle can be brutal without a massively top heavy crew to carry, among those of us who regularly hunt the wyrm the XP spread is between us ranges from about 15mil to 110mil experience, and even then not every group is successful. There is not one in our community of Wyrmslayers that I haven't seen the wyrm take out at least once; even if just from fluke open rolls and bad timing. Channeling that already challenging battle into a flex schedule that requires an 8-9 hour timed wait (that shifts if ANYONE summons it) is sometimes mind-numbingly frustrating, especially for someone who is on their Xth attempt.
I feel the same way about the Sybil fight. It can be a rough fight and forcing players to farm items to run it again if they fail their 1st time is brutal.
I have not seen or heard of players forced to farm the items... not to say it couldn't happen. I've done the sybil often enough yet spread out enough that when I have had characters who failed, either by dying too quick or the sybil dying too quick (like my empath, who also froze at the scripted death part), there's been enough others on the quest to join another group
On one of my non-credit Sybil runs, other players were quick to offer the materials to run it again (once might have been you, Riend). I declined then as I was a) short on time, b) frustrated at having game lockup, c) wanted time to get myself reset and max-prepped, and d) I had a few friends that I knew were running it later.
Said another way: player community has been fantastic here. Sybil runs are far easier to just "go" with 5, and there are regular Sybil Smashers already ready for go (except maybe Saturday nights when a gemstone hasn't dropped)
I still agree with Myharl's feedback that separating the wyrm timer from the idol summons would be ideal... but I also wonder if decreasing the open wyrm timer would do more harm than help. I see times of day where there aren't enough players ready and willing to go, and for the regular hunters, the wyrm is a heckuva surprise.
Yeah, the difference between the prompting the wyrm battle and prompting the sybil battle is that every quest goer gets what equates to a free summon for the sybil. It means you can work the battle into your time schedule, plan your team and when to start with right out the gate. The ability to do this with the wyrm summons regularly has been entirely by effort from the community.
Additionally, the summoning items for the sybil are more abundant than those for the wyrm. I have several in my shop price at 1 silver for anyone needing them, and several folks have also been generous in helping with providing the drops for those summons (both sybil and wyrm). I've been really proud of how the Hinterwilds community has come together to help others, but the overall frustration with the timing I think is completely understandable.
I've spent years timing those wyrm spawn windows. It can often be a drag, especially when you just miss one.
To me, the really painful part is that it's a 2 hour variable window....
Yeah, that can be rough! The wyrm will be here sometime in the next two hours, and if you happen to miss it, then it will be back sometime later in 7-9 hours or so. Your auto-tracking when she takes to wing has helped a ton there; I used to do all that manually and it was a huge pain.
It often remains challenging with RL to catch that shifting window.
Yeah, I think about all the poor souls who don't have as much flexibility. With only a few hours to play every night, hoping the window falls into their schedule.... and then some who don't normally hang in the Hinterwilds can feel held hostage there a bit while they wait.... only to miss it
When I ponder the number of hours I've invested since 2022 on "waiting for the wyrm" it feels sort of mind-boggling. Likely thousands of hours at this point.
They made a country song about you...
"Waitin on a Wyrm an"
He sat down with his claid in hand and asked me
"You waitin' on a wyrm an?"
I nodded, yeah and said, "How 'bout you"
Good grief
I think that one has gained a few levels from kills
They’re the most dangerous thing for all the people that got carried to gemstone unlock so now we’re seeing on average higher cannibal power as they farm the players.
so carrying people through wyrm and sybil is really just part of a larger plan to provide sustainable food for the cannibals
does anyone have the bigshot boundary rooms for the forest? looking at the map, it seems all over the place...
there's like, 4? all the entrances to the issenflow are the same room
a lot more than four, unless some of areas on the map count as a different creature spawn location 29923, 29937, 29878,29902,29901,29939,30115
do things ever spawn in the hoarbriar?
The Hoarbriar is the home of the Packmother and her pack. She spawns about every 8 hours or so in the cave there, and when she does, a pack of wargs spawns in the Hoarbriar as well. Otherwise I've seen the same spawns as the northern part of the Boreal Forest (wendigos, golems, hinterboars, cannibals, and bloodspeakers). When the warg pack spawns there's a global message about a howl from the forest (or, if you're in the Hoarbriar or Boreal Forest north of the Geistwalk, the spawn messaging mentions you hearing them running through the forest on the hunt).
Weird observation: You can hear the Packmother spawning from the River of Color, but you can't hear or sense the wyrm spawning from there.
You also (if i recall correctly) can't see the wyrm spawns from the lookout tower which i thought was amusing at the time
The Boreal Forest south of the Grove and Angargreft, and between Fjallarhaart and Eldurhaart is unique and acts as sort of a overlap space, sort of like the Greatchamber in Angargreft; its not too uncommon to see every creature in the Hinterwilds roaming that part of the forest having wandered in there, even disciples, mutants, undansormrs, oozes, gigas, valravns, angergiest, disir, etc.
The lookout tower counts as being inside. Does it not prompt the indoors messaging for the wyrm? I don't hang out in there usually so never noticed that! Nice catch! My curiosity has always been piqued by the old discarded book there in the tower that's written in gigas runes and wondering who the name in the title refers to.
Seeing every creature currently spawned in the Hinterwilds that is being hit by the wyrm's dazzling presence (when it's flying above a ballista) when you are in the waters of the Issenflow is another fun/weird quirk.
The gemcutter says, "Sorry, Kaetel, I'm not buying anything this valuable today. Maybe tomorrow."```
Oh dear, I've broken it - can't sell my gem to the gemshop 😆
`It is estimated to be worth about 20,000 silvers.`
On an alt with no trading:
```The gemcutter takes the winternight sapphire and inspects it carefully before saying, "I'll give you 20,200 silvers for it if you want to sell."```
Yeah, I get that with those sapphires pretty regularly. Have to shuffle them off to someone who gets less silver, which is either:
A) (preferred) my one character who's 1% less than max Trading (because I can 1205 her up to max Trading; sometimes I flip 1205 off and on just to be amused that the NPC goes from unwilling to pay to willing to pay in 3 seconds)
or
B) someone who's already hit Trading cap on others' loot for the week

I have been hunting the Hinterwilds since the week it opened (so about five years?). I have never, not once in all those years, been instant killed by the weather. Wow you got the deep freeze. Was there a storm as well? That's insane.
Also, when Myharl tried the whole body cryotherapy from Temu...
I wonder if sunder defenses applies negative crit padding like minor mental Thought Lash.. and maybe negated all your other protection first. Then, with an open roll...
i'm sure this has been brought up, and shot down, but uh...
would love pre-cap hw bounties 😍
where some of us are going, we don't need levels
but we do need bp's 😁
Hmm? Asking for easier bounties doesn't help?
I think he's talking about--and I didn't even know this until this past week because of Mauss--the fact that you can't get bounties from Halfwhistle unless you're level 100.
This is despite the fact that you can get, say, Moonsedge bounties from Halline before level 100. (I assume you can get Hive bounties too. It's probably Cold River that's the outlier because it's set up less conventionally, which conversely is also why the Hinterwilds were (at first and for a long time) the only Ascension hunting ground giving 10% bonuses on rewards.)
We gotta keep the riff raff out
2 months too late for that
Definitely too late.
The name Riffraff is UNAVAILABLE.
you're already here
I know it affects redux, I'm thinking maybe crit padding as well. I always notice the effects, but last night was a bit unusual as I was soloing the wyrm for a good 10 minutes before anyone showed up, so I had an abundance of sunder going on. It makes me wonder if maybe there is no floor to the reduction, because it's a bit weird to get taken out by a snowflake while actively wailing the snot out of a dragon.
Tactically, it just means working some of the alchemist's slush into the wyrm hunting routine (when I don't have active warding), functionally though it seems wacky.
Is Myharl gonna turn into a white walker now?
Ha! He kind of already looks a bit like a draugr (all the black alloy, cloaked in writhing shadows, runic-style tattoos, and surrounded by a wintry aura).
anyone else lagging like crazy in HW?
Not that I've noticed.
it is game-stopping bad for me right now, and it's not my internet
Maybe a routing issue to the game server? Website slow?
website seems fine?
Weird. I don't think it's the game. I'm currently hunting over in Fjallarhaart with no lag.
hmm okay, thanks for the replies
Restarted router, restarted pc, nothing working. guess I'm done with GS for the day. It's not just HW, it's literally everywhere
I'm late seeing this, but it wasn't you. I had same issue at this time, as did others I checked with. Things were fine after an hour or so.
Thanks for letting me know. I decided to log off after doing so troubleshooting instead of trying to dig in and get frustrated.
Hopefully it's good by tomorrow
Yeah, I'm guessing there was probably a routing issue, one of the hops having issues and that's why some folks experienced it while other didn't just depending on location. Issues that usually get resolved pretty quick thankfully.
Keeping the obvioushiding flag up is a good idea. It is a good idea to highlight the messaging as well.
It is! I've had it highlighted the same so long that I actually forgot it wasn't normally monsterbold.

Valravns being stunned and immobile but still casting or attacking has to be a bug, right?
I've always assumed no since disciples do it too.
The Hinterwilds are weird. Undead non-undead stuff, targeted magic that ignores the absorb feat, stun/disabled sometimes means nothing, there's probably a pretty long list of "quirks" in the HW that seem just be how things work there.
it's the weird aurora borealis aka "alien cloaking"
disciples wendigoes and undansormrs dont care about stuns, and pretty sure they dont get stopped by carns cry either (they might get the ds penalty but they keep attacking).. stagger is the one true redeemer, RT stops everyone
While I understand it's new month culture shock that Eldurhaart has loot again and people could have easily forgotten that it can, I didn't expect so many people would already be leaving it all over the ground. 👀
Undansormrs and disciples get stopped by caern's cry, but not wendigoes. Also angryghosts are unphased by it. Edit to add: disir are only affected by it for a short time, perhaps till their next action, and some other critters occasionally break out of it.
Could upsetting gigas in Eldurhaart stop preventing us from leaving buildings please? I'm trapped inside Altar of the Dragon. 😛

did you infuse spirit?
Can I do that in RT? I really didnt have a chance as the first cman was 20 seconds.
Through the use of the INFUSE SPIRIT command all creatures present in the room will be reset so that their next attacks can be absorbed. Under normal conditions this infusion costs 1 spirit point. When the infuser is under the influence of certain status effects, eg., stunned or while in roundtime, the cost to infuse increases to 2 spirit points.

oh right yes Im dumb.. dont worry I took the easy way out ☠️
you can also just fog(or sym of return) across instead of swimming
oh I was tryna go the other way, to leave
Yeah I exclusively use sym return in the hinterwilds even on chars that can cast 130, you can land on the wrong side of the river with 130 which is Very Dumb. Thanks to a comet that passed Elanthia in 1997, 130 is bad
is cold wind damage supposed to bypass blood shield? My hp is taking hits while the shield remains at 100
technically you can 130 the other way too it may just take a few tries since there's a landing spot across the river but yea if you have 130 you also have 112 so its easy to walk

weird, none of the other skald attacks this month behaved like this one
so I'm primarily hunting the boreal/ojand/eldur/sanguine/geistwalk areas... basically just not the dead pits. Any suggestion for warrior fittings on my armor?
There's a pretty broad range of creatures and damage types in all those areas. My preference is to bypass fittings and use armor reinforcement to help prevent wound stacking. I find it helps reduce the frequency of the need for herbs, especially if you don't have an empath handy. However, it's really going to depend on your character build and equipment. What seems to cause you the most problems when it comes to wounds?
I'd say wargs getting hamstrings on me, or the shield-maidens and mammoths and berserkers charging me. Basically some of the SMR. I am a rogue in brig, I use armored evasion.
Of all those, in my opinion, the most dangerous are the wargs. Especially if you're hunting where they are in numbers, as they get all the various pack boosts when more than one are in a room. A big enough pack of wargs can be a threat to almost anyone.
Yeah the wargs are usually what gets me killed or injured from their hamstring.
Fittings (I use crush) AND armor reinforcement are a big help but I still need to fully restock my herb kit at 300k per every couple days/week
I also got 10/10 CER, they just chip away at you
Oh and I guess the biggest weakness for warriors is the wargs can actually coup you at near 50% health, they get a huge bonus when you pinned down
Slash or maybe puncture fittings then? But I know hamstring bypasses armor.
My armor is 210 services, so 12 VHCP, and then I run sigil of minor protection for HDP
I have 10 dmg CER AND use sigil of protection AND have bubble flare +10 damage, they still chip away haha
Oh for sure, it's going to happen. I'm trying to help reduce some of the chipping with fittings is all. Any suggestion on the type?
I go crush and it gets used quickly, animal attacks are usually split between the 3 types
Slash fittings wouldn't help against hamstring right? Because it bypasses armor when successful?
No idea on that
wish the wiki was a little more updated on the HW crittersd and their spells and attacks and whatnot
Are there regular groups for the Sybil?
Since you can summon her on demand while on the quest it’s generally pretty easy to ask around at the pipe den or on esp an get a seasoned group to do it
Also if you aren’t tune to wyrmwatch on esp
Also, feel free to tune into the "wyrm channel" on ESP "ESP TUNE Wyrmwatch" and ask there. Many of those who do wyrmhunts also help out with Sybil runs.
Like myharl would know about killing bosses in hinterwilds. Seems sus.
Do you need to be the looter to gain gigas, or can you gain them when someone else in your group loots?
You do not need to be the looter
As far as I can surmise, contributing comparatively more to a kill increases your odds of being the one who gets the fragment, but the looter is irrelevant.
Thank you both! I don't want to take away another's being able to loot to just to gain gigas.
Some intersting stuff going on up in the Hinterwilds this afternoon...
It had a severed cannibal arm.
It didn't carry any silver.
Interesting, it carried a bent ring on it.
It had nothing else of value.```
looks like it picked up a severed limb that may have been removed via sorcery?
Probably, but have seen it a few times this afternoon. Don't remember seeing them pick up limbs in the past.
The real question is that if you sever a cannibal's arm, will the other cannibals eat it? 🤔
they're rarely tangible but fun when they are - put it in a container and make people wonder where the smell is coming from
Or, will the severee? And is it still cannibalism if its yourself?
Myharl really wanted those wyrm limbs i severed, if he can't have a scale he'll take the next best thing
Where is the petition to get Myharl his wyrmscale armor, Wyrmslayer Pre-name title, and custom wyrm mount?
I'm still hopeful that the prename title will become available for us! That would be awesome.
Fingers? You mean travel snacks.
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a grim gigas skald.
The ground beneath a grim gigas skald suddenly frosts and rumbles violently!
Icy stalagmites burst from the ground beneath a grim gigas skald!

Shot shatters hip and severs left leg!
Despite desperate windmilling to catch his balance, a grim gigas skald topples! The gigas skald is stunned!
You feel a slight sting as the sprite draws upon your power to attack.
** The blue-ringed red sprite on your shoulder sends forth a cylindrical, blue-ringed red blast of magic at a grim gigas skald's back! **
... 75 points of damage!
A mighty blow cleaves a swath through the gigas skald's back, taking the spine with it.
A grim gigas skald raises a hand as if to grasp for support as he collapses, life going out of his form.```
Small joys!
Literally. Small joys of a tiny sprite just wrecking a ginormous skald's entire spine.
Can "Frostling Ward" be updated to be able to stop it with STOP frostling ward please? Or allow alchemist to refresh it?
niveous snowdrop and glacial core are missing from https://gswiki.play.net/Category:Hinterwilds_creatures#Gems
a blue-green glacial core, 8500 base value?
Richly imbued with the hues of ancient ice at a glacier's heart, the core wavers between a green so deep as to be almost black and a rich, oceanic blue. Both tones converge within the heart of the gem, which burns with a frigid light. Shaped like a spindle, the gem's crystalline structure fades toward silver at its extremes.
a niveous snowdrop, 9000 base value?
Tear-shaped, the snowdrop is a striking translucent white. It is of a size that it might be mistaken for a hailstone, were it not for the startling radiance channeled by its facets. Impurities within the gem form the faint suggestion of falling snowflakes, not one of the frosty occlusions completely alike to another.
How does one define "base value"?
no idea - just a guess based off my appraisal. Do I need a bard?
or leave em blank heh. I'm not good with creating pages. I just do minor edits on existing pages.
Collect 100, appraise them with no modifiers, determine an average.

so um. is it intentional that valravns can continue to do things while paralyzed (not just breaking stuns, but still attacking when paralyzed)? or is that a BUG report needed?
They've been cavorting with disciples apparently.
There's a few combat quirks in the Hinterwilds that feel "buggy", but I think maybe intentional. Like spell sever, there to make combat more challenging maybe? The valravns will sometimes attack from stunned, also bypass the Absorb feat with any of their magical attacks. Disciples will ignore imposed RT from maneuvers often, and can sometimes react/attack as if their actions only incur 1-2 seconds of RT. Disir have some weird quirks with using their shields when wearing them. I think most have been bugged. Other bugs were taken care of pretty quickly, which leads me to think some of the unique combat behavior might be intentionally divergent of typical combat expectations.
I wonder if they utilize certain cman functions like stun maneuver or forcert or quickstrike
That would make sense, or maybe some unique monster-only variants. Without a lot of information to go off of, I have noticed when there has been other known issues with critters it garnered response and in some instances immediate fixes (examples: mastodons riding mastodons, oozes not ejecting characters properly, reanimation of some of the "undead" creatures, the variant wyrms, skalds in Fjallarhaart not dropping loot, and even the disir shield issue received some staff indication that maybe that's not intended. Which leads me to think a lot of these other quirks might be functioning as intended. Still worth pointing out though, especially when it deviates from the norm.
Hi all, I wanted to update the Wiki page for the HW alchemist to include a brief description of what each item does. First, I wanted to check with the experts here to fill in any details. Here's what I have so far:
Distilled Disir Radiance:
Flask of Frostling Slush: Provides 15 minutes of [ Https://gswiki.play.net/Frostling_Ward], protecting against hypothermia.
Rune of Transportation: Transports you to the Abbey in Icemule Trace, speeding transportation.
Wildfire Oil: Adds temporary flares to your weapon which remove skalds' immunity.
Surestep Wax: Reduces the frequency of falls due to the ice.
I think any info added will be useful! That entire section needs to be redone from the ground up, but for what's there now, I think that would be very useful!
To/From west of the Spine = Temple of Hope; L#31064
To/From east of the Spine = Carvan Outpost; L#31074```
I believe all gigas can adapt to resist fire (it's not default, they adapt during battle often when hit with heat damage), not just the skalds. The alchemical fire bypasses the restistance rather than removing it.
Thanks, Myharl! I'll add that. Oh, I need to include the costs, too.
I've noticed some other weird things involving gigas and mastodons. I cannot mug a gigas on a mastodon, but I can waylay it. Also if I attack a gigas on a mastodon and the gigas gets "knocked down", sometimes the game still considers the gigas on a mastodon and I still can't mug it until I take down the mastodon.
You can't volley gigas on mastadons either, which is odd since arrows are ... yanno... ranged.
You can - you just can't target them. Like if you volley the mastodon the mounted gigas will still get hit. It's a very silly problem
The mounted combat system is a bit weird. I didn't know about either of those bugs since I only ever do straight melee attacks, maybe make sure they get bugged! That being said, I really like the concept! Are there any other critters that have engagable monster mounts who can be dismounted during battle?
I just really like when a mounted gigas charges at Myharl, only to get knocked flat to the ground when he cuts the legs out from under the mastodon. 😄 ⚔️
yeah, if you WEAPON AOE, if your target is the mounted thing, it wont work **and **wont attack anything else, but if your target is not the mounted thing, it will AOE (and just give you the error for the specific mounted critter, but still attack everything else)
Yeah I don't dislike the mounted combat or anything it can just be a little wonky
The alchemist is GONE!☠️
Should be back within the hour. They respawn on their own. 😄

To be honest, a ton of reported legendary finds make me glad I didn't find them since I'd have been really disappointed.
I just hope it was someone paying attention, and not one of the AFK gemstone script hunters. I like to think someone got to experience the excitement.

Daenamaryllis's shell-draped body hunches forward, her damp, leathery green skin clinging to her heavily muscled form, barely concealed by the simple swathes of cloth loosely draped across her chest. She occasionally unhinges her jaw, revealing a maw of jagged, yellowed teeth, snapping her mouth shut in anticipation."

Exactly that
Wow that sucks. That was an auction item in 4/2023. Then it went out as a legendary a year later or so in both instances. Now it goes out again?
I bought it at auction in plat and then found it as a legendary.
definitely a little lazy
Some real Davy Jones vibes on that
it is odd that they cycle them as carbon copies and dont at least tweak them a little bit from drop to drop.
Yea I don't know enough about legendary drops but it doesn't feel particularly legendary to have the same description go out multiple times without any changes. As a whole its pretty lackluster but not much I can do about it since the prop isn't even alterable.
Reminds me of my win from the first GM auction I went to back in like 2002. I wasted my token on a fishbowl... it had 3 verbs. Someone else got a Coraesine weapon.

I had something interesting happen in Angargreft earlier. I peered into a room with a single mutant, and then maybe 1 second later I walked in and the mutant was gone. I immediately walked through that room into a few of the subsequent rooms, and there was no mutant.
No one was hunting there and it could not have died.
The mutant was at the top of the rubble pile, which is the entrance to the Hanging Gardens (room 30037 in Lich).
I guess it’s possible that this is the boundary between zones and it despawned in the 1 second between me peering into the room and me walking there?
But it seemed so odd that I thought perhaps it wandered into a hidden room or something. I searched a bit and didn’t see anything.
Just a heads up in case folks think there might be something hidden there and want to check it out. I’m not great at puzzles.
Stuff despawns if it's not engaged. I don't know if that's unique to the HW or not, but I run into it every few hunts because I'll use PEER alot to figure out what sort of open to use. Yeah, that. lol. I wasn't scrolled down far enough to see the rest of your message.
I’ve been playing a long time and have never seen anything quite like this before.
Just raised some suspicion that perhaps there is a hidden room it walked into.
I’m already suspicious of hidden HW rooms due to the “single room” foraging issue we have griped about and which has been ignored 🙂
Yeah, I've been convinced for a long time that there's an undiscovered/inaccessible area there that the wyrm used to land in as well. So there's multiple reasons to think so. ||Even more so now learning about the existence of Bryndhaart.||
could be; rangers can sometimes find hidden rooms with track
Something causes a slow in HW and it shows no spell buff/debuff but last for a long time. What is it?
Well if anyone wants to search perhaps it’s a good place to look. I tried some verbs and failed, so not sure what else I can do, heh
Maybe the disorient from the wyrm?
Happens in normal non wyrm areas too

Heh. Was that the gigas throw maneuver? Not sure how that hit a hinterboar... I don't think a player's Duck & Weave affects maneuvers, but not sure on that.
There used to a be a two handed weapon cman for that, right?, that would knock a creature out of the room? Dropped in migration to PSM3?
No clue. It's the first time I've ever seen it. Did a log check just to make sure. I busted out laughing when it happened.
I know the berserkers have a rare (to me) maneuver to grab you by your hair and throw you out of the room. I also BUG'ged that one a few weeks ago, as it succeeded on an SMR roll under 100. The old maneuver was fun and entertaining, but Naijin either axed it... or turned it into staggering blow that kept it in the same room.

People are kind of forced to spam each other. (I also find the idea of a pipe den kinda gross, but that's not relevant to the question here!). It would be great to have a place to go where I don't have to spam others -- it bothers me to do it.
I love HW overall, though, so many cool ideas. Even the map is really neat!
Go buy premium and enjoy a lovely rest in FWI.
Tables should be super nodes and bots should be at tables and HW should have tables.
all nodes are supernodes: vote jaired for class president!
Delete xp nodes. They don't work for their intended purpose.
I get why they made gathering spots super nodes. To encourage RP. But now that Gemstone has turned into automation simulator, they've become the worst places to attempt RP
Mandatory RP in supernodes, if you do not respond to another player's roleplay within 30 seconds then they are free to send you to death's embrace
Or..... > ask constable to arrest zhagen for RP evasion
Alongside Mentors, players may now apply for positions as Roleplay Inquisitors.
how many players does it take to veto override a gm? asking for a friend
Whale/2+basicsub/1,000 >= 1
I started to rest in the town center off the super node because the screen scroll make me go crazy
Does anything in HW root you? I know Moonsedge seemed to have a couple things that root.
Not that I can think of. Moonsedge and the Hive both do
So uh... yeah... Auchand, can we please reassess the situation? If not tables, more rooms with nodes?
Best he can do is 1 single mega table that is outside on a patio
They could renovate the tavern, turn it into a library, and put on permanent silence
the golems put you in a block of ice which is rooting
Arent all major sanctuaries a node?
terminology issues here probably but major sancts are never a node, actually!
natural sancts are often nodes as well but not always
they're considered "on-node" for xp purposes, but aren't nodes
which i never noticed for years because i often meditate immediately after casting one, which makes up for the mana return loss
yeah major, minor, and natural sancts all count as on-node for exp gain, even if they aren't actually nodes
Huh. Really?
I can be ok with loss of mana, as my rests are long enough to regen mana pool anyway.
Can a wizard or sorc cast 418 in a major sanctuary?
nope
can cast minor sanct and 418 in the same room though, if it's not a node already of course
I literally stopped resting here for the most part because of this and now I have no hunting partners 😅
It’s almost like it’s doing the exact opposite of what nodes were meant to do.
I don't mind all the MA groups but it seems like a lot of the spam at the Den is from them...would be nice if they'd adjust their scripts to do the spammy stuff elsewhere. I know my "MA group" is only 2 people but any time I do anything spammy I try to leave the Den first so as not to contribute to the scroll.
That is why I invested in my tent. So I wouldn’t be subject to the spam, nor contribute to it. But it was a non-trivial cost, would be great to have accessible options
most things you can just do really quickly in a random room - I wouldn't ask anyone to rest somewhere else - but they could script it to leave the room before the spammier stuff
I'm really just guessing here, but I think what might be a big factor could be that most MA groups don't have all Premium accounts? So, those groups don't have access to just port over to FWI and get a table or whatever and it costs shards to teleport to get to another node, so they hit the one available. The argument for keeping it that way seems weird when any premium member can just pop over to Mist Harbor to get away from it... which seems counter to the idea of having folks gather IC at Rawknuckle's.
May not be the case, but as a single-character player, it makes sense to me that barrier to get to a different node might be having some impact on the noise in the Pipe Den. Nodes aren't that important to me personally, so I just tend to light in other areas of Cold River, but I know that's not the case for everyone.
We just need tables in cold River. Forcing people to park in one room doesn’t make them RP it makes the room spammy while people alt tab to discord or work between hunts. It’s a pointless battle.
No prem access and popular hunting scripts don’t necessarily support resting in one town and getting bounties in another. And manually come back to the computer and do bounties? Oh god ew. What am I a human?
Honestly, I don't have any problems in the den, unless someone is purifying gems. That stuff is super spammy and annoying. Pick a dark corner and purify there please? Most other stuff is fine. I'd say picking but no one I've seen picks in there.
it's not really a problem - just seems like bad manners to run a 5-10 man MA group and do spammy stuff in the only supernode
They're taking the logical course of action based on mechanical incentive, though. That's the thing.
agreed except that it's not hard to do your spammy actions away from the supernode - some is obviously unavoidable but there's plenty of spam done by 10 person groups that is avoidable with a tiny bit of effort to adjust the scripts
Auchand, any chance we can get a bump on Bittergale uses per visit? There's several MA crews running through preventing others for taking advantage with pretty regular frequency now.
Huh, boggles my mind that they even bother unless they have neither an empath nor a ranger.
Edit: Oh, wait, no it doesn't. That would be easily explained by script moving around the hunting ground instead of purposely pausing in indoor areas even briefly.
this was fun - more please 😛

I'm just glad it works. Those acid clouds get nasty quick! 😄
Do the mist clouds need to be targeted with a wand or Bazzelwyn gloves, or will a generic 'wave' work, like an open call windd?
And... am I correct in that imbeds of 912 use a mana cost of 12? Imbed was not updated for the updated mana costs of the spell disabler changes?

guess not?
Wait, is that CA sidestep messaging, is that a bug?
Yeah but it only changes stance, doesn't auto dodge like evasion.
Defending against SMR attacks has a (Rank * 4)% chance to treat the attack as if you were in a 20% higher stance. This bonus is capped at defensive stance (100%).
Sidestep is a CA skill... and whatever the source of that message, it doesn't match your crit death. That's a different messaging than I recall for the stance adjustment of sidestep
I wonder if that's the Evasion buff... but it said it eluded the attack, then didn't
I want a refund, all that money give to the rogues and for what.... cant even dodge a 400 open roll
I mean, that is like ALL the bad luck, all at once
If that is an AOE bullrush then it should have evaded it. so it might be a bug
R5 impact critical with only 9 damage
Ok, the wiki is messed up for the Rank 1 benefit of Sidestep... but you should have eluded that attack completely.
Ignore that Rank 1 says it increases phantom dodging ranks. Look at FEAT HELP SIDESTEP instead. Bullrush and shield trample are both listed as abilities to be avoided.
yeah, someone janked the sidestep wiki haha
Fixing that now.
Wiki is fixed, but Gigas owe you a deed. Or DeLuca does. That is the messaging example for outright evading an AoE attack, so it triggered and then failed.
Example messaging from Wiki:
Dude traces a simple rune while intoning a short, mystical phrase...
Dude gestures.
A wave of dark ethereal ripples moves outward from Dude.
With a reflexive sidestep, you elude the attack!```
Rogue only Rank 1 sidestep is an activatable command which grants you evasiveness
So about that new node resting spot, eh Auchand?
Gonna go out on a limb here, but I’m pretty sure 'one node to foster rp' wasn’t meant to mean 'squelch half the room just to see what's going on.'
You estimate that the total value of your valravn plumes is approximately 2300 silvers.```

They're all sitting on the hidden node where all the foragables that only spawn in the henge are.
disciples can create anomalies despite 703 on em
Disciples don't seem to follow a lot of expectations of combat. They just sort of do their own thing and be annoying. Often setup/manuver RT is meaningless, stuns are meaningless. As a KS warrior I literally can't avoid their disruption casts (even in defensive, with boosts), which they often do 0.01 seconds after walking into a room. And their default DS is high enough, that even at 720+ AS, every swing from an mstrike often misses.
On one hand, they are the second highest level thing in the Hinterwilds, so I'd be kind of okay with them breaking every rule...
...except that disir are the actual highest level thing in the Hinterwilds and they don't break many if any rules, so eh...
The Sanguine Grove and outdoor Angargreft aren't worth hunting at this point IMO. Maybe back when undansormr scales were worth 5k, but now they're more like 1k and undansorms don't have boxes.
Oozes take up tons of time with nothing to show for all your oozelings kills. Disciples are too brutal. Mutants are fine, but they're surrounded by other things just not worth hunting.
Yeah, I just sort of avoid them when I can. 🤷♂️ They aren't particularly strong outside of that, so if I catch one at just the right moment, I wreck them... but 95% of the time I'm limping away unable to continue hunting, with a few missing limbs.
They use shield maneuvers when not holding shields
That's true, disir shield maneuvers are a little funky. Not as wildly frustrating as disciples' many zany aspects, though!
Actually taking the time to fully check out the hinterwilds, I gotta say it's pretty awesome how many abilities and things the creatures have, and I'm only finishing up with the forrest
Aside from the occasional annoyance, it's by far my favorite area in the game.
Disir break a lot of rules with their shields, other things too. I think it's safety say they break more rules than disciples. Also, you can reliably use Caern's Cry on disciples.
Undanworms do have boxes
Oozes have boxes but never seen a undansormr drop anything.
Someone running a crew of about half a dozen needs to work on their script. It's pretty annoying when someone walks in and starts picking up your loot. They're relatively new to HW so I'll cut them a little slack, but please fix your script so that you only loot your own kills.

@tribal quarry I just started looking at this years logs and I don't see boxes from Undansorns...but I SWEAR they used to drop them! Is this another skald type issue where the treasure went to 0?
There was a recent bug fix on those guys, but I don't recall if it was boxes, I think it was loot in general
I didn't remember finding any loot off undansormrs, hinterboars, wargs, or mastadons (basically all the beast spawns of the HW). I did a search through my logs back to 2022 2023 and the were two times I found loot on beasts. One box on an undansormr, and one box on a hinterboar. Both boxes were feeder frenzy boxes.
I could pull older logs from backup, but I think probably they just don't have loot. Maybe some loot got mixed in from adjacent kills that made it seem like they were dropping boxes?

It seems every bounty task coming out for foraging is all in town foragables for some reason. I've gone through about 10 successive foraging tasks all for in town stuff with none assigned to the environs. Missoni has been having similar.
I also noticed an issue with my HW herblore tome. Whenever I try to look for an herb in it now it sends back "You flip through the pages of your dark blue tome, looking for "frostweed" growing in the Hinterwilds, but can't seem to find anything like "Hinterwilds."

Would GMs consider adding a fire to the super node at center of Hiwi village?
"Kill 23 golems" Nope.

"kill 15 golems" Nope.
Bounty boost.
It isn't that I even mind golems, it is that HW gets so swarmy because of all the bot/MA armies attentive players, that I can't even kill a golem without 2-20 things charging the room.
Wait, people hunt the Boreal Forest? I've been avoiding it for months because I assumed nobody bothers and bounties would take forever.
I solo the forest with relative ease and anything non-gems is done in under 15m bounty-wise
I hunt the forest quite often, I like it. I usually stick to the Forest, OJandhaart, Eldurhaart, and the entire Geistwalk area, and occasionally poke my head into the Sanguine Grove
I enjoy the gigas fights but until I get some Transcend Destiny ranks the wargs RT locking is not fun for me
the wargs are horrible, and the RT lock can last well beyond the 30 seconds max RT because it stacks over and over
It is a pretty cheap mechanic, especially because the mastodons and berserkers can do the same. It actually makes the area unfun.
Even with TranDest wargs are a blight
only the cannibal bounties are annoying because their presence is not readily apparent.. boars and bloodbois are easy.. golems are annoying but also everyone leaves golems alive so there's always tons about

Obvious exits: west
Today was my first time hunting in HW and I was amazed how crowded it was. Are the other Ascension areas this crowded too?
No, ME has some big MA groups, but it's not as busy (spawns are wonky)
Hive tends to be pretty sparse, at least the lower levels.
ME and Hive also have a City nearby with easy access with tables and nodes for all subscription levels
I'll consider those places as alternatives. Not fond of fighting swarms caused by the crowds.
Only one supernode and one regular node in HW correct? Unless you're premium and go to FWI? or have a puptent with node unlocked? do they have node unlocks?
and all the definitely here people tend to not use the premium ones, even if they can. cause muh bounty scripts can't figure out how to cross towns.
Does HW have a stables? I could see getting myself a stall just to rest on a private node there
No. It's not considered a town so only has shops required for bounties.
Correct, though I don't know about the tents and nodes part.
Tents are sanctified, so whatever kind of "node" that provides. There's no special unlocks or anything.
Inside tent:
You are filled with a sense of peace as your war cry dies on your lips.```
more does it boost EXP absorption like a node would
ME has awful creature spawns and the Hive is harder than a lot of people want to deal with, Hinterwilds also has the only gemstone system NPC (the artificer) in the game so there's that too
Sailor's Grief will hopefully thin the herd in HW
HW is also the only ascension hunting grounds that doesn't do child rescue/escort/bandit bounties.
I remain of the mindset that Cold River should just be turned into a minor settlement. Basically that would mean adding a village cleric to (or near) the shrine. We have a healer in the herb shop. A pawnshop, and a few tables. In lore, it's far enough removed to warrant those basic amenities in my opinion. The trade-off being the cost (fragments)/time to travel to/from and limited bounties. It just makes sense to me to make it fully functional for those who set up camp/make their home beyond the Long Snow. There are other examples of this in game, and they're not even remote locales. Marshtown comes to mind (which by the way has two supernodes).
At this point, I'd be happy with 2 more rooms in the Pipe Den with nodes.
Maybe even 1 extra room.
...give me a closet.
and fishing at the fishing spot!
What's the artificer using all that money from his services for?!?!
He must be building the biggest, best, trading post the world has ever seen up there.

:wishing He's adding damage tiers for Infusion of <Flares>!
It didn't carry any silver.
It had a pastel-hued wintersbite pearl on it!```
Every time this or some other super high caliber gem drops, I start questioning if I should be actively seeking out golems because maybe nobody else kills them and they have excellent loot pressure...
I love me some golems, personally
While I don't think we know the artificer's story, I have my own suspicions. I'm fairly certain he's allowing folks to do all the heavy lifting in gathering bits of the Lunar Shard, and I suspect he's involved with the Wyrmcult in some way; I assume he might be quite scaly under that mask of his...
Spoiler-ish Lore: ||Gigas mythology tells how the long ago the Lunar Shard was a fragment of the great egg that bore the Firstborn (wyrms/dragons/drakes). The way that we are using gemstones is actually reviving and harnessing part of the technology/magic from the ancient builder race, progenitors of the Gigas, who larned how to harness powers from the shard fragments. Where too the artifact fragments littering the Hinterwilds (also the great Road, the River of Color, and the ancient ruined columns) all come from.
The recent resurgence of the wyrms roosting at Angargreft, the sudden rise in activity from the Wyrmcult, and the search for pieces of the Lunar Shard all point to something very profound and potentially world-changing happening beyond the Long Snow.
OOC: I think that it all likely infers that gemstones, as pieces of the Lunar Shard which is a fragmented piece of "the egg of the First Born" (that fell from the heavens long ago), are likely pieces fragmented off of the moon Makiri that plummeted to Elanthia to be found by the elder races. ||
I can assure you that every golem in the boreal forest has been thoroughly mugged.
Some good guesses.
The artificer is collecting all that to build a sweet fishing place
so, artifisher?
Firedrops must be a rare gem because I haven't seen any drop yet. Unless they only drop from specific critters? Or maybe I'm just unlucky.
I think firedrops are from the IMT set which drops across the North (the same gem set that snowfire rubies are in), rather than a HW specific gem, though they do drop in HW as well.
There are also just a LOT of different gem types in HW/IMT, so getting any particular one is already pretty uncommon
Yeah, it took me forever to finally finish the jars of all the Northern and HW gems. I think (by design) it was to mix up gem bounties. They were added about two years back by Auchand.
There probably isn't a good way to hunt for a specific gem then. Guess I just gotta hunt more!
"a shard of raven's wing obsidian"
This isn't listed on the wiki at all. HW gem?
I believe it is. Let me see if I can dig out the list I made when I was making a set of all the Northern and HW gems.
yep, it's a HW gem
Opps. Sorry! Can't find it because it doesn't exist anymore. I had been keeping track of them in a post on a 3rd party Discord server, of a player who no longer plays and deleted the content. (a side note: another reason I won't use unofficial servers anymore except for cursory conversation).
One whose coolness in name is sorely undermined by its value 😭
Create your own. I have a private personal server exclusively for GS things so I can access them across multiple devices
That's the list of HW gem types I have stashed
Yep, I actually did! And, I end up using it mostly as a paste board for conversation on here. 🤣 I make a point to make actual documents for such projects, and just include them in my regular series of backups. Old fashioned, but I know I can always get at them.
I updated the wiki with the new gem. Hopefully, the rest of the list is accurate.

Do any people use the herbs in the herb box at Pipe Den?
I use it to stash valravn *quills and disir feathers. Except it's been full, so I stopped.
i tried to use that as my default for eherb so i could just pull herbs and restock when it ran out, but it doesn't seem to hold enough to make that possible, so i just carry my herbs
That or people are filling it with non-herbs which makes restocking it impossible
Why are you putting feather in the herb box? Do they have special effect people can use?
they are a component required for part of a quest in HW (only necessary if things go wrong)
ah, good to know
yeah it doesn't seem that useful for herbs... if only it consolidated the various types into their basic form like the survivalist kits Plus it's hard to organize and bundle stuff in it.
I did try to tidy it up some last night
I typically to try to keep it stocked with several earwort potions from Pinefar for folks to get rid of ooze poison (which can get upwards of 100 per), but it's been filled the last several times I swung in to do so.
not sure how many uses, but you can also put a "chip of pale blue-green turquoise" from the FWI herbalist. Someone will need to wave it at the target poisoned character.
Dandelion Isleie says, "Ah, a chip of pale blue-green turquoise. This is one of the Aldoran healing stones. It's been infused with the ability to cure someone that has been poisoned."
I dropped one in the box
Fantastic! That's a great idea!
So you can't escape an ooze without a blunt weapon? That's kinda unfair.
crush dmg weapon, doesn't have to be a "blunt" - so like a runestaff will work
And, with us slaying that wyrm in Ojandhaart just now, I've reached a another personal milestone finally! Myharl has slain 500 wyrms! ⚔️

I am UCS with a knife for lockpicking. Wasn't aware a blunt weapon was needed. I wish there were other ways to get out. Not everyone is carrying a blunt weapon.
It's a semi-common system. It's been around since roa'ters. They just require a blade instead
Ah well. I'll just have to accept the death. Do all blunt weapon work equally? Is a maul any different than a knuckle duster?
Any blunt weapon will work. I use my bastard sword since it does slash/blunt.
Any weapon with crush damage, as Descorceri mentioned. Even a handaxe works
Encumbrance is a big deal for me (forest gnome) so the lighter the better. I'll find the lightest crushing damage weapon. Thanks for the replies.
Runestaff works too. Can be lightened to 2 lbs
I think knuckle-duster is the lightest. Only 1 lb.
Did you try PUNCHing the organ? I don't know if I tried UCS, but it does the right damage type
UCS doesn't work. "You can't move to do that" message. That's the main reason I found it unfair. I can swing a weapon but can't punch/attack with a closed fist?
want this? a drake belaying pin (cudgel) <2lbs
thought it was funny to have a tool made for sailing made of drake so I kept it
Naw, I'm good I found a knuckle duster. I also checked and that ooze had a really low chance to grab me. It just got lucky. I should be ok now.
The idea of using a blunt weapon only, to get out of a pile of ooze is puzzling. Also, I'm still peeved that Voln armor beseech used to work to get you out, and now it doesn't, basically making the beseech feature useless to anyone in... Voln.
The really fun combo is when a mutant disarms your bonded weapon and then a slime immediately eats you. 🤣 The "ooze vomit" gemstone is one of the regionals I'd probably be cool with keeping if I ever find it on a jewel with some other great properties. I think the unique mechanic is a fun addition to GS (not everything has to be attack/defend). As a fantasy RPG, it seemed weird to me that Elanthia existed so long without any oozes, slimes, or puddings; they're kind of a staple of the genre.
The really really fun combo is when you get eaten by an ooze and can't shut off your empath tattoo so it takes 15+ minutes to die.
I keep a drake mace and drake dagger in my harness for emergencies
I keep like 4 daggers and a falchion on me... and a backup bow... and a knuckle-duster.
Yeah, if I was going to have a complaint about them, it would be that there should be a check for a small chance at regurgitation each time it tries to digest you. If the slime get's killed or despawns you escape, but that can take too long sometimes.
i have literally been swallowed after a disciple blew off both arms and had to sit inside and let my tatoo heal me enough to get a weapon out. Which is hilarious when it targets the highest tier wound first so it just bounced between arms for like 5m
This is why it’s important to always kill your oozes. You never know which friend may be inside struggling in their own personal purgatory.
Adjacent to the conversation, breaking down what feels "wrong" with disciples, I think is less a problem with the creature, and more a mechanics issue with the spell they're using. The auto-limb exploding bit bypasses secondary defensive systems: padding, dodging, maneuvers, resistances, etc.
It feels very GemStone III.
Not if you've spent enough money.
True! 😆 But that's the case for most everything.
If you get stuck in an ooze, give a shout out to your friends to come kill it. It will release you when it dies.
I forgot who it was but I killed an ooze once and someone popped out. I felt I should have kept him as loot. Very rude.
You remove a vultite knuckle-duster from in your modwir trunk.
Ok, you got me game. That's pretty funny given all my complaining yesterday.
oh yes I've had this exact experience.. but to my benefit, I carried a drake mace and FORGOT so, extra fun

See? 100 and it failed. I've only encountered Wargs getting success on a 100 end roll so far.
Yeah, a 100 is supposed to fail.
I wonder in the instances of the wargs succeeding on a SMR result of 100, if there's something happening with FoF related to their pack abilities.
Potentially? I've had it happen with only one in the room though
The "emboldened" effect persists for a bit (when they move rooms or when other wargs are killed). I noticed that when I was fighting the packmother along with a pack. She stays alive long enough to notice the effect still active. It might be "by design" for wargs. Have you run into it anywhere else?
I do not believe so? I can keep an eye on it but I think it has only been wargs.
Even if it is their FOF or emboldened, 100 =/= 101 and that is a bug that should be fixed.

Disciple voids?
I have never seen that happen (nor heard of it happening), but seems like perhaps a bad encounter with an anomaly might do it? Or, maybe a unique item "escape" ability?
I think it happened to me when I was killed by a disciple and the anomaly was still raging

I haven't died, I know how it used to work when I was getting them. I just haven't gotten a single one in a couple hours of hunting (and don't have any). I don't know if it's just really bad RNG or a bug, given that this character merged from Plat.
How many do you currently have. You can't find more than 20. It should show up under wealth.
Once you hit 20, you won't see them drop anymore unless it's on a search from someone else who has less than 20 (in which case it will say something along the lines of tossing it aside).

it's not just wealth though to see did you do a wealth all?
THAT is what I needed, thanks. I'm full up on shards, that's why I'm not getting more. I am used to seeing it when I type wealth.
Yeah, that's what I mean. When you view your wealth, you should be seeing everything and you're not.
Wealth gigas works as well, it moved from just wealth
...Now I need to figure out how to get wealth to display what I want it to and nothing else.
I remember that now; came out right after the recent wealth changes. I forgot that I did an alias to automatically do WEALTH ALL for any of the commands. 😄
One interesting note about gigas shards. They appear to be somewhat linked to loot, in the sense that you’ll earn shards much easier (as a % of eligible kills) in the pits vs. olanhaart or whatever it’s called where people are strip mining the area for gemstones
I've never noticed that, but makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when someone in a group finds a artifact fragment, everyone there with fewer than 20 gets one, right? I know I've gotten some before simply by passing through a room where someone else was searching a critter. So, if you're with a group of folks that aren't maxed out on artifact fragments, you're all goin to find them much faster than hunting solo.
I'd love to hear the logic behind creating an entirely new system of alt currency instead of just making them normal game objects. I don't really see the point in a game where players really enjoy open economics.
My perspective: Just replace the term "gigas artifact" with "auroral energy". It's not an alt currency, it's an area-specific resource. When you die (and depart/decay), you loose them, can obtain a limited amount. It's a balance mechanic for some special abilities intended to be fun boons for a hunting ground. Making them "gigas artifact fragments" just provided an opportunity to play into the lore of the area with the builder culture the gigas descended from which plays heavily into the area history, the backstory of the region, and now how/where/why the fragments of the lunar shard (gemstones) are a thing.
Personally, I really enjoy the concept of having a unique way to interact with a hunting ground I frequent, and would love to see more areas get this sort of thing. I do think the output could just not echo anything for a resource you don't have any of (so you don't see a bunch of zeros).
I prefer the HW "currency" instead of like SoS periapts which never seem to have enough charges.
A little late this time, but here's my monthly request to get another supernode in HW so we can stop getting blown up by afk MA alt bards, spammed out of being able to rp, forced to go to FWI to use tables (and also not rp).
Another supernode out of the cold that is not the pipe den would be good.
All the MA'ers can stay in the den. Everyone else to the new hotness.
Pipe den should be auto noise
They usually learn to stop 1018 after being blown up.
That's grand and all, but the entire pipe den shouldn't have to be learning that lesson with them.
What do you mean?
You've never been in the pipe den when 2 bard's songs blow up the room? Pretty sure we've posted logs of it in here 🤣
Is it song of mana? I genuinely know next to nothing about bards.
Yes but that doesn't help me understand what you're trying to say.
It's two bards singing 1018, song of mana.
I'm not sure where the confusion is? The bards aren't the only ones who get blown up, so everyone is having to deal with it?

17:05:44: Powerful hit to Alastir's neck leaves trails of vapor in its wake!
17:05:44: He is stunned!
17:05:44: Sarowyn's wiregrass anklet pulses briefly, deflecting some of the burning damage!
17:05:44: ... 20 points of damage!
17:05:44: Flames incinerate muscle tissue in neck exposing the trachea. More than you ever wanted to see.
17:05:44: He is stunned!
It's only the Bards.
It's happened twice in 2025 according to my logs.
Hang on, let me go hunt through my logs and find the last time people in the room died to an AFK MAer because what's killing them is totally the most important part of asking for another node. 👍
I think you could ask for another node without all the unnecessary extras trying to justify the ask.
I think multiple people have asked before and been shot down for superfluous reasons.
Then why are you asking again if the answer is no.
Chrysain is caught by the effects!
... 20 points of damage!
Chrysain's ears swell, bursting his eardrums.
He is stunned!
Ehria is caught in the effects!
... 20 points of damage!
Ehria's neck bones snap.
Head looks precariously balanced now.
She is stunned!
Picalo is caught in the effects!
... 30 points of damage!
One lung bursts in Picalo's chest!
He is stunned!
Kysari is caught in the effects!
... 15 points of damage!
Strips of flesh flayed from Kysari's back.
She is stunned!
Yakushi is caught in the effects!
... 12 points of damage!
Flesh bubbles on Yakushi's left leg.
He is knocked to the ground!
He is stunned!
Tatterclaws is caught in the effects!
... 28 points of damage!
Skull and surrounding flesh disintegrate. Tatterclaws falls to the ground dead.
``` + another 150 lines of people getting injured and dying.
Hmm, wonder if that was one big group.
Because it's something HW needs, and I'd rather keep pushing for what's necessary than just accept the status quo.
And no that wasn't one big group.
Obvious exits: west```
Almost all of us got hit.
I don't have any records of big explosions like that, I'm going to have to try harder.
That's the spirit.
Here you go, you can live vicariously through other people's bards...
I'm curious now what changes it from Bards only to everyone.
someone cast 418?
Exhaustive testing is in order to identify the specific combination
Or.. Or... Orrrrrrrrrrrrrr we get another node in HW and let the afk MAers just blow each other up.
I support more resting spots, I just don't think we have to blame bards to get them.
There are plenty of other things to blame bards for!
I don’t even blame bards I blame the design of 1018. It’s insane that hasn’t been changed by now to not explode people. Archaic player hostile design
In the pipeden, no less
Pretty sure bards weren't the only thing I blamed, but have at it.
You can blame bards for that update not happening!
It hasn't been changed because BARD
I guess I can ask, were you trying to blame me?
I have absolutely no idea where that’s even coming from. Why would I blame you?
I have literally made this request for like the last 3+ months. Asking for more nodes in HW to benefit everyone is not some random crusade against you. That’s just wild, bro.
Because I've been blowing people up other Bards, lol. I MA, and I rest AFK in the pipe den.
I would be more careful if it were more than just the other Bard getting hurt. I guess I've been lucky.
Ohhhhh I get it now. You took a request for a benefit to the players in HW as a personal attack because of your own actions that I knew nothing about. Got it. 👍
Yes, I was trying to figure out why you were coming at me. (It happened right after Sarowyn blew up.)
I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I was pulling from my experiences since I started making the request months ago, you’re welcome to go back and see.
No one’s coming at you, but it’s wild to me that you thought I was based off some random thing that happened in a room I wasn’t even in.
It makes it way more funny
It definitely made it something.
Guess we’ll try again next month with a disclaimer that it’s not about you. 👍
I think if we can push enough people into the den that it starts to affect the game they'll be forced to make another spot.
IMO, supernode-ify the other tavern room, the Village Center, and the shrine, and then ideally add tables for good measure.
For whatever reason "they" want us to suffer together in one room. So let's malicious compliance that.
I feel like tables are the one thing they won’t budge on, but I agree with all of it.
Good idea
I guess I can give it a shot (helping overcrowd the Pipe Den). Fortunately for everyone, I finished mastering bagpipes (relative to non-bard max) a couple days ago.
Is there any real reason that song of mana/mana focus needs to explode any more? I can't think of a reason they would be overpowered to warrant that sort of punishment.
Yes, it’s a key element of bard design that all their spells kill themselves
It’s the song of POWER. Not merely mana. There can only be one POWER!
Oh okay, just make it a small update so the bard explodes and no one else does.
Doubt they will do tables. That would probably make it a town and require that “town” stuff.
According to the wiki, "Cold River, Village Center" is a node. Just promote it to supernode. Problem solved.
Oh, and do the exploding bard update too. That will help. Make them explode into candy. Fun for all. Except the bard.
Make the pipe den a regular node
I don't ever worry about resting on a node, but I know others do. My perspective on the topic is two questions: Is adding another super node to HW going to make the experience demenished for anyone or unbalance mechanics? (I don't think anyone has argued this?). Does adding an extra super node resolve a disruptive issue that has been expressed by dozens of players? It's a no brainer in my opinion.
It will just become two very slightly less overcrowded nodes
Which I think may actually be the goal in the request.
I'll still be over in my corner somewhere unless I'm actively engaging in RPing with someone. 😄
Another question, how come we don't see song of mana power explosions more often? Is everyone just going to tables? I would expect to hear about TSC exploding from it periodically.
Anyone hoping that the “problem” characters will kindly relegate themselves to a single node is wishful thinking
Most people don’t sing song of power regularly because it blows you up, and certainly not afk. it’s a behavior reserved for specific individuals only
You're not wrong. But it would provide an option to move away from them if resting on a node is important to you. Generally, if adding something is not going to break something or cause a game balance issue and doesn't require significant resources to manifest, I fall into the "let's do it" camp.
I am too, for the record. I am similarly unaffected by the outcome either way - I’ll continue to rest in the peaceful solitude of my tent 😁
Also I’m reupping my suggestion that hypothermia should be active in the pipe den if the fire goes out
Now, a pawnshop/consignment.... I have a bit stronger opinions about, but also understand that would require quite a bit more resources to manifest.
A furrier would work, less resources. Even pinefar has furrier.
We have a furrier. 😄
And gemshop, and bank, and locksmith pool, and herbshop. But for some reason, no way to offload alchemical stuff or dropped items. (outside of Mist Harbor, or traveling south).
Figures. You can tell I don't skin very much.
Is reporting an option worth considering? I don't know if the damage is frequent enough to merit it.
I think REPORT is generally reserved for emergency situations that need immediate attention, but even then ASSTING is generally a better route to go unless prolonging resolution could cause more immediate damage. Something like this kind of makes sense as being discussed on the official forum of communication (a.k.a. here).
Getting exploded is annoying, but it's a valid component of game mechanics.
I don't know about that. ~~925 ~~ METEOR SWARM exists. That should be reworked. Regardless, it might be worth tracking when and how the explosions happen.
Is everyone in the pipe den not premium? FWI and a few other nodes are very accessible
Not to put too fine a point on it, it would be very difficult to prove that anybody was intentionally killing other players with song of power. The most plausible explanation would just be that they were dumb, which, historically, is not a reportable offense.
Oh, well, whether the design/mechanics of the spell are a good fit for GS is a totally valid conversation, but sort of an entirely different conversation.
I can't help but think staff is confused why a good many folks just don't go to FWI
They may not have premium. I usually don't pay extra most of the time.
I only do because I don't have any choice. 🤷♂️ I guess my perspective is, if that's the counterpoint, why not just add it?
shrug HW is the best ascension hunting ground and one of the best in the game hands down for bounties. I suppose this is the pain point. If it had another super node and tables it would be perfect perfect.
hive erasure
It's all subjective, but yeah, the Hinterwilds are my favorite locale in game hands down.
Hive is jank. Child bounties that take forever. Escort quests. Frickin stalkers and Coup
This makes me wonder how Sailor's Grief will be handled. It doesn't seem like it will be located near any towns. Maybe everyone will rest on their ships?
I'm ready for it just to have something new for a month
What we really need in HW is the option to teleport from the alchemist to the elven nations
I'm pro-more nodes, but it would also help if some tweaks were made to take some pressure of HW: artificer in some other town, maybe have The Scatter count as an ascension areas, etc.
Hottest take, the take to stoke the fire, remove the node and fwi, and force people to return to towns to rest
You can if that's your point of origin.
The portal in EN is one room east of the caravan spot.
I updated the wiki with that information awhile back. It didn't use to be listed there.
I am definitely pro making more ascension hunting areas, there's clearly a demand
Heck, Im going to Ta'Illistim tonight. Gonna offend some elves
Going to stand on the dais and yell for workers to help renovate Li'aerion.
Once again we see that loot pressure doesn't accomplish spreading people out since we clearly just keep overcrowding the Hinterwilds and Moonsedge even though the Hive is definitely richer.
But we can prove it again for funsies when Sailor's Grief comes out.
Loot isn't a driving factor for everyone. The reason I hang around HW is entirely RP/Story/Vibe. I could move over and hunt elsewhere without many issues. I'm there because it's where I want Myharl's story to unfold. 🙂
I like the vibe of HW too. I am a fan of remote snow locations. The high amount of people kinda breaks that feeling though. HW is probably my fav of the current ascension areas. Hive is creepy and full of bugs and ME doesn't do the horror well enough for me.
ME would be my jam if I was playing a Simon Belmont/vampire hunter sort of character. It's very well designed for that. The Hive I know less about, but I'm sure it maybe plays heavy into someone vested in the aelotoi lore.
Yeah, many people would still stay in the Hinterwilds no matter what. There's a big chance that I'd be one of them, for that matter!
But the fact that nearly everybody is in one of the two Icemule-ish Ascension hunting grounds speaks to a larger problem that I'm not convinced Sailor's Grief will solve even though I'd love to believe it will.
I think looting a driving factor for a lot of people, but truth is that the loot isn't that bad, except for skins which are way down. I'm not suggesting someone turn d9wn the loot dial.
Its the layout and the need to not use bounty waivers in HW
Perfect spawn saturation
That is loot pressure working correctly and rewarding players for going to the hunting ground that is considered harder and more insect filled
If more than a tiny handful of people actually did it, I'd agree.
Most of the rewards for ascension hunting are concentrated in gemstone drops, which are not affected by loot pressure!
Anyone that's hunted all 3 for a few months is afk scripting if they don't admit wholeheartedly that HW is superior to the other two hunting grounds by a good margin
I mean... this was true in March, April, May, and June, sure. Now duststones are but the tiniest fraction of loot cap!
right, which is why you should be back in sanctum if you were really doing the math
I do legitimately need to go check out how rich the Sanctum is now. It's probably superior to the Hinterwilds after you've gotten a weekly Gemstone. Maybe even before.
It’s a little slower because there’s like three people there. Even the AFK empath on the altar moved to ascension (at least I assume that’s where they went).
I like that empath. He makes manna bread for everyone!
300 HP doesn't matter when a single warg can lock you up until dead
Can we please get a "Thick neck gemstone" making you immune to warg coup 25/50/75% of the time?
Do they follow the same rules as the player cman? You need to be low on health before they can kill you?
With a quick lunge, a niveous giant warg tries to hamstring you with its !
[SMR result: 101 (Open d100: 87, Penalty: 13)]
Your size contributes considerably to your defense!
With a vicious strike a niveous giant warg slashes at your right leg!
Light, bruising slash to your left thigh.
Blood sprays from your right leg in a crimson arc!
... 1 point of damage!
@opal pine ACCEPTABLE! (sorry couldn't resist 😄 )
/agree
low HP or stunned (whatever the mechanics for player coup are), but honestly I dont see them use it that much.. compared to say the stalkers in the hive. but wargs just lock you up and then plinked to death
Ick, I hate that kind of death
The warg attack that can break your neck if they are emboldened by numbers is brutal
I slept in today, and am just now catching up on the Simucon panel videos. Currently in the middle of the alteration panel video and the question of using wyrm scales as alteration fodder came up. The response was that the understanding is: wyrm scales are planned to be released as a rare drop and those drops will specify in the analyze/inspect that they can be used as alteration fodder. Also, any existing wyrm scales (like those that dropped pre-idol name change) will not be eligible to be used as alteration fodder.
@cyan lynx I don't ping very often, but since it just came up at Simucon and I haven't asked in a long while, asking if we have any update on if wyrm scale drops are imminently incoming or still a "RSN" list still? Same with the potential for the Wyrmslayer pre-name title that was mentioned as potentially becoming available. Been trying to snag that pre-name title for three years now, including an attempt to use Premium Points to purchase the title (which was also denied on the grounds that it may become an obtainable title). Thanks!
Now that I'm mostly free from Sailor's Grief, this is a priority for me.
Wyrm scales will be a rare drop (with respect to boss fights, not rare by standard killable creature standards) so you may have to slay a few wyrms for one.
I will talk to Thandiwe about the Wyrmslayer pre-name. I think that one should have a similar drop rate.
any plans for tomorrow
Nice! That won't be a problem! I'm already at 542 wyrms slain! Plan to keep slaying them! That will be an awesome surprise to see one drop occasionally.
⚔️
I don't think it should be a rare drop. It should be a milestone title.
If someone kills 1 and gets it, because it's rare, they're not a Wyrmslayer, they're lucky.
i want Wyrm Bait title, for all the times i've been sat upon
Honestly, I'm not worried about what someone else gets. I'm just stoked to hear it's going to become available in some way. I'll plug away to get it since it's literally the core focus of Myharl. 🙂
It seems like the title should just kinda be like, auto after x amount of kills, with x potentially being 1 because you did in fact slay it. But if it's just a random rare drop i'm bringing every non-gemmed alt i own to get carried through just to see if i can get it before myharl for the lols
my 1.02x cap empath, their corpse recently ejected from wyrmreach after doing 17 damage: "Oh hey non-wyrmslayer myharl. you new here?"
I'm assuming the rare wyrm drops will be "dropped" as a part of the lockbox loot generation. That makes the most sense to me, I think.
That way there's no question about "whose" it is, kind of thing.
All the OG wyrmslayers are gigas anyway. 😄
Something tells me no matter how rare the wyrm scales are, with the number of times Myharl kills that thing, he will get a few 😉
Idol hoarding mode engaged.
Nah, I'll still save a lot of idols I come across and use them to help folks out when needed. I figure a lot of folks in the Order of the Wyrmslayers will do the same. I think we've probably got most the folks who want credit through, and are getting close to just managing the trickle of progressing characters coming into the quest.
Yeah, we'll see!
I'm attempting to get an Ascension group hunt going tomorrow and will be curious to see if anyone wants to run a wyrm.
CS: +453 - TD: +327 + CvA: -21 + d100: +78 - -5 == +188
Warding failed!
You are overwhelmed with sympathy for a savage fork-tongued wendigo.``` Since we're taking requests, I have mentioned and mentioned and mentioned this issue over and over again, so here's an actual clip of (eventually) dying from it.. sympathy RT lasts longer than the actual sympathy effect (as per spell active).. so in the above case, this leads to chained sympathy, no chance of doing anything, and death.
Aren't the RT effect and sympathy effect two different effects of the spell? The RT is applied upon failed warding, the sympathy effect is the one that causes you to attack allies. When you see "You begin to feel less sympathetic" that ends the sympathy effect, but the applied RT is separate. Case in point, the point spread between CS and TD of the wyrm casting sympathy can last a whole long longer than RT.
there is no RT applied on failed warding. That roundtime is periodic throughout the effect
Is it not you taking your turn? As in, if someone had been there you would have attacked them?
I mean, I hate the player facing version of the spell either way. But I just assumed when you fail the ward, you take an action even if defending (gives you RT), and then the sympathy effect wears off. Like above. You "defended" got 5 seconds of RT, and but the sympathy effect wore off while you were in RT. Maybe I'm misreading that though.
Maybe let Auchand address it
Yep. Apologies.
Lets say you are in 20 seconds of sympathy. Throughout this time, you get periodic RT. My issue is that say when there are a few seconds left of the 20 second spell effect, you get periodic RT that now extends beyond that 20 seconds (I only get uppity when the whole "KS does not suffer more than 20 seconds of disabling" gets circumvented, as such). So in this case, I assume one cannot get double-syumpathied, or have it be refreshed, but in this case the spell effect had worn off, but I will still disabled by Sympathy, and in that window I was re-sympathied and ultimately killed.
(my other big issue is vertigo which gets around the 20 second "rule" by just giving you 35 seconds in smaller chunks, but thats for another rant)
It probably does have to do with looking for another player to attack, because there is no reason to give me RT when I already can't do anything
Completely agree about vertigo.
I also dislike the chain RT locking that can happen from all the shouts/howls/etc.. in the same vein
We've been rattling the "sympathy is bad and it should feel bad" sabre for a while now.
There are only... 2 ways to break it? One is a Gemstone (Force of Will) and another is a mental spell? Not sure there. I've always maintained the best balance update would be that it falls off the moment the thing you're sympathied towards attacks you. We don't need to support toxic relationships in this family game.
You carefully examine the steel trunk and determine that the weight is about 164 pounds.
Today's fun box!
Oh, I know it'll just be coins. But it's great for driving up my fossil charm ratio of silvers to gathers!
how does slipping work in hw? does grabbing 10 ascension ranks of survival (for 212 ranks total) make any difference?
I think there's always a small chance, Duffy is 202 and like, maybe once every other week will sleep
get some rest
lol.. I swear I am not part of the brain bonk club, but this has been happening more and more, I 100% am thinking slip, and then read up and come to find I in fact typed sleep
It's freudian, you're clearly in need of a nap
Aren't we all?
Just woke up, already need one
12 out of 12 attempts of trying to drag someone through the arch in HW from OJand to the Boreal Forest and I slip and fall? I'm not encumbered. Neither are they. 150 str (50 bonus) and 2x survival....is this right?
Ice patches randomly form (and thaw) around the Hinterwilds. Surestep wax will prevent that. It's available at the alchemist for gigas fragments, but only lasts for about 30 minutes, I think. They work basically the same as the ice patches on the glacier trail to Icemule. Can't drag over them.
I knew ice patches would randomly form in HW, but didn't know the rest about the surestep wax or that the patches prevented any dragging. Good to know, thanks!
Woohoo! So happy for the update so we no longer dispel phase from NCU. I'm testing with angargeist and seems phasing them still doesn't allow for crit kills. But! I came across one that had been symbol of disruption. I saw it wear off and phased it then was able to crit kill it. I dunno how much damage it took prior though. I bugged and Nyxus is on the case though.
In theory, if you're going downhill, wouldn't ice patches make moving bodies easier? just put them on the ice, get on the body, and use it like a sled or board
like ice trolls do with corpses
i think you can do that on Penguin hill in icemule....
It's been awhile
I suggested years and years ago being able to PUSH a corpse across an ice patch (lol, and apparently again when Marstreforn was tweaking world travel hazards last year), but I'm assuming the whole mechanical point of them is to be an hazard specifically for that. Makes rescues in that stretch more challenging.
I'd rather run and launch skimboard style. 😛
arrive on the other side with a chance to dismount gracefully, stumble, or crash?
This was fun. And they kept coming so I ran out of mana and ran.
Getting frisky out there
why are they still alive?
You can't swing a sword when you dead....
Certainly not a big sword, anyway
There needs to be some better ways to mitigate SSR, its just like constant RT from wargs and gigas scaring me with yells, let those anti-fear alchemy amulets help with it!
SSR is a pretty poor and dated system. I think Auchand has said he plans to replace some/all SSR with MDR when he gets to balance passes. Whether that works out for us or not, who knows, lol
Listen stop being a chicken baby
You are a Master of War Cries....... apparently not if I whimper like a baby 95% of the time I hear them. I assume that is what the wargs and berserkers are using anyways.
So all I can really do is transdestiny sometime far far down the road or ascension/enhancive discipline right?
Dam dark elfs so pitiful! Discipline (DIS): 100 (15) 😭
Thank god for platinum, 5 additional discipline enhancives incoming
that's very insulting to animates
175 jewelries from HW, only 9 enhancives including a wonderful +1 armor use bracer..... This place giving OTF a run for its money
it's being strip mined worse than the congo 24/7
What the heck
I saw you die and was like "what the shenanigans is going on"
Walked in, immediately got howled at by a warg and it was open roll of course.
Then nibbled to kibbles and bits. If I'd had a maxed out empath thingy I might have survived. Or if REGEN(1150) command actually worked with armored casting, but it does not.
Or if 1150 worked in RT, I always really hated that it doesn't.
Is the wyrm immune to nightmare? The cast was successful but there were no after effect messaging.
You need to put Myharl in its nightmare. He’ll take care of it.
we should be able to just speak his name to cause a disabling status at this point
um, excuse me. why do disciples suddenly destroy me when I hit them? I was just killing them yesterday and they couldn't ever do that.
now every single one can nearly kill me if I touch it???
Hmm, is that cloak of shadows acting on a combat maneuver? That’s interesting
garrotte specifically triggers it (edit: it being cloak of shadows in general) for some reason (always has)
Beware, that after 3 years, the bug with disciple Cloak of Shadows (712) not actually doing anything appears to have been fixed. I will be ignoring these now on my square, lol.
Why don't you tell the class who reported the bug?! 😑
There's a statute of limitations on being in trouble for that and it's more than 3 years lol
This man reported the bug, bragged about his anti magic cestus, and then got hit with the change and noped himself out. 😆
Actually I'm back, I beat some disciples up with the cestus earlier I think I'll be ok. It's not 100% foolproof because UCS Fury gonna throw a kick sometimes and I might get owned but, good enough
