#[Official] Moonsedge

Might have just been a bug, but it clearly shows that some creatures have different loot tables based on where they are spawned
Yeah, I think that situation was unintended based on how it all played out
Wyrom has talked about loot pressure of creatures being tied to the profile, regardless of area
Hunting Area: Town
Critters in room/number of times seen:
0: 707 (98% of rooms)
1: 8 (1% of rooms)
2: 4 (1% of rooms)
Total Rooms: 719
Total Critters: 16
Average critters per room: 0.02
Time hunting: 516 seconds
1.86 critters per minute
Oof, it is becoming physically painful watching these numbers sometimes.
castle was pretty good when I did a hunt about half an hour ago
Yeah I switched to the castle for a bit to see if it improved. Looks better so far.
pretty rare occurance where there was plenty of mobs to go around but also not ridiculously swarmy
I wonder if the organ effects spawn rates
if it does I haven't noticed any pattern to it. I had the organ buff last hunt. I've also had the organ buff when it's been completely dead
I'm almost never in there without the buff going. Spawns are always erratic.
Also - throwing this in here.... if anyone wants to see the status of the organ, it's in the swordhymn channel in this discord.
https://discord.gg/JTvcdDkyuW
i usually check there to see if it's resetting soon, and will just go rest in the library (Lich room 32469) if i want to make sure I catch it
Not sure if this is pinworthy for the powers at be or not, but it answers commonly asked questions about the organ. Wondering if maybe I should try to add it to the wiki.
There's a 25 minute cooldown once it's played successfully.
There's a 5 minute cooldown if played unsuccessfully.
When a bard plays, everyone gets a 20 minute hymn.
If a non bard plays, it's 15 minutes.
Learning instruments helps increase your success.
Having one open hand when playing helps with success.
Apprentice level in all skills seems to lead to about 55-65% success.
Adept (bard master) in all skills leads to about 85-90% success.```
So, my thought on the swordhymn a bit more layed out.
I wonder if when the sword hymn is active, if spawn rates are lowered. There are at least 5 minutes of inactive time, which can cause sporadic swarming. My theory is, if the hymn was not activated as often as it is these days, if the swarms would build up more. I also wonder if failure to succeed at playing the organ might inspire the mobs to spawn even more than normal. I have no practical experience, but I do recall a lot of talk about swarminess in ME before Gemstones released. I wonder if our coordinated efforts to keep the sword hymn active are reducing the spawn rates. I am probably completely off base, it is only a theory
It’s an interesting theory and would certainly explain things.
It was even busier than Dreavens crew when gemstones released and people were only there to kill one thing so no one was clearing out spawns.
I think Auchand's come out and said the spawn rates are pretty standardized.
If discord's search feature was better, I'd actually consider trying to find it, lol
#1057019350856519800 message
No wonder it rang a bell. He was responding to me on it. lol. Thanks Kaetel
Gotta up your discord search-fu, that wasn't even a tricky one 😆
I was having deja vu there... and appreciate the search-fu lesson 😬
The spawns can be standardized, but the number of rooms that make up a spawn area make it feel wholly unstandardized.
yeah... 12 spawn area there vs. 60+ for the castle in Moonsedge
I haven't been in Moonsedge for a month, but back in April I was for sure still encountering those 15 - 20 critter pile ups.
Standard or not it obviously is not optimal in Moonsedge. Perhaps the standard spawn logic simply doesn’t work well enough for the way Moonsedge is laid out.
Spawns this morning are rock solid. I only see 2 other people in the castle, but walking into rooms with 3-4 mobs at a time.
and never moving more than 2-3 rooms before finding them
Just tracked for a minute real quick to see if it was in my head or not (I need a tracking script of some kind) - but here's what I just had:
The # of rooms i walked through followed by number of creatures once I found one:
1,2
1,4
1,1
2,2
1,1
5,3
2,2
okay.... stopped to kill a wyrm & unload, restarting:
1,2
3,6
1,2
3,3
2,3
1,7
2,1
1,3
1,1
1,3
1,2
1,5
This is insane.... And i see no one else out hunting
I clear these rooms in a couple seconds, so it's not like this is an extended period of time
So, maybe it really is a case of people killing faster than they spawn? Is the sword hymn active?
I visited Moonsedge yesterday and unofficially counted roughly 2 dozen other people outside the castle composed of 2 groups and the rest were solo. All things considered, the spawn rate felt like famine but it also reminded me of the same situation in hobgoblins circa 1995. 😂
Sword Hymn active. Spawns stayed that way for a good bit. They're pretty decent now still, but not as heavy
Not finding anything more than onesies and twosies now... but theyr're not hard to find, like sometimes.
I do think its a case of anytime there are more than 3-4 groups hunting the castle, things just get killed faster than they can spawn
Yep agreed, that's what it felt like to me. Simply too many people in an area.
Aren't there a lot of groups in HW as well?
Yeah, but HW is smaller spawn areas. ME has 2-3 areas of 40-60 rooms each. HW has like a dozen areas with only 8-12 rooms in each
There's tons of people in HiWi and you never have to fight over spawns because the spawns keep up because HiWi is like 6 zones, yeah. ME is just two colossal zones.
Maybe it's a design decision based on the fact that ME is incredibly easy to get to compared to the other 2 ascension areas?
or maybe it's an unintended consequence and all our chatter will get them to try splitting it up a bit 😬
Yeah the configuration of the area needs to be revisited. While it may be on standard spawn logic, standard spawn logic with two 50 room areas just doesn't work well
I was surprised to have an area so easy to reach and so close to Icemule when I got back, it's the most convenient area for me. I was used to getting spirit drained for the scatter etc, and HW is another long trek, and I'm not even sure where the Hive is =p
HW isn't a long trek if you hunt there regularly. Gigas shards are instant transport to/from.
The pain with HW is that you have to cram your group into the same node with your 50 best friends
You also need premium to access a pawnshop unlesss you want to gigas teleport constantly
ME the only ascension area where my wizard has to re-cast 515 in between finding a creature to kill
Another issue is grotesques are a waste of a spawn for most professions. Not worth the mana on a pure, and unless you have a bounty task, not really worth the time on a physical class. Between their 319 and all their HP they are a huge Meh of a creature
better to skip for pures
None of my pures engage with them or the HiWi golems. Well my sorc 717's the golems. Sorc privilege
I don't hunt ME that much but when I do, I kill grotesques (cleric + sorc MA). They definitely take a bit longer but I'd rather kill them than run around looking.
One grotesque sinks like 60 mana for my wizard, I'll just run around instead, lol.
yeah it's like 15-20 mana for my cleric and 24 mana for my sorc to kill them (combined)
This is probably the biggest pain in the arse, IMO. And why I wont bring my group there.
Think I got fried on just grotesques yesterday, since others avoid them.
The grotesques immediately appeared to be an intentional puzzle, and they were interesting to examine.
My wizard kills them using about 20 mana and draws about 150 mana off them for a total of +130 mana gained for as long as mana leech supports it.
Two simple dispels break their shield then rapid fire minor electrical bolt can kill them in just a few shots, doing 60 - 80 damage per 1 mana/1 second.
I have seen empaths 1115 wither them away completely in one cast.
I have 302'd them into star magic in one cast.
I have seen wizards 519 immolate them away in one cast.
Those aren't reliable on a 100% basis of course, but with a little creativity, these critters can be a lot of fun to kill, and they are replete with mana ready to be siphoned. Wardable. Hittable. SMR'able.
i think every upper level area should have a crazy spawn place and a quiet spawn place.
with just one spawn rate, characters with builds for swarms are bored, and characters with builds for one-on-one are overwhelmed.
i celerity mstrike the grotesques with arrows 😄
Rogues are a cheat code on them.
Feat Silenstrike Waylay
Wait - after you dispel the shield, how does a couple bolts of 901 kill the grotesque?
You burn out its HP 60 - 80 damage a second. Zap zap zap.
I don't know if they have 400 or 500 but at 80'ish per bolt that's, 5-7 seconds.
Add a minor disabler like free 909 TAP for the easy 50 ds reduction if you need it.
I'm trying to help, not sound snooty.
@frosty bluff
I have also noticed better numbers today and last night in the Castle area:
Hunting Area: Castle
Critters in room/number of times seen:
0: 184 (77% of rooms)
1: 34 (14% of rooms)
2: 13 (5% of rooms)
3: 4 (2% of rooms)
4: 2 (1% of rooms)
5: 1 (0% of rooms)
6: 1 (0% of rooms)
Total Rooms: 239
Total Critters: 91
Average critters per room: 0.38
Time hunting: 575 seconds
9.5 critters per minute
Only a couple of rooms could be considered "swarms", but the overall critter rate is pretty good, even if it is mostly 1 or 2 critters per room.
Warrior - end up warcrying them twice, tackling, thrashing, warcrying again, and bearhugging if I just want to get rid of them quick. All that stamina...
spawn seems better today it seems to always go up on the weekends
my wizard is currently running around for 45-60 seconds in between killing individual creatures
Yeah I brought my entire army out for a hunt a few minutes ago just to see how it would go and the spawns were somehow worse than I have seen before.

grotesque I see a lot of, and ppl avoiding it explains that. usually two weapon thrash is enough. sometimes I use my Valence ability from the katana (raise for ewave like effect) and it usually makes them lie down for more damage.
I love ME. The theme, it's very close to Mule, they are undead, etc. Yeah, there are times it gets frustrating for various reason, but that's just how it is. You adapt. If fire damage or whatever is something you're taking a lot of, get resistance or a Ranger Trinket If you're not killing them fast enough, revisit your plan of attack. It's kill quick or be killed and especially when it's swarming. And it's not like you can't ask people to hunt with, although I get the argument that it's the searcher that gets the gemstone but it's not like you can't take turns on searches either.
6 unique players in Moonsedge right now, looks like about 20 characters.
and we're all chasing spawns..... back to going like 10 rooms before running into 1 critter.
Patterns are definitely leaning towards the idea that we're collectively killing things faster than they can spawn
LOL.... I just had a string of 59 rooms with 1 critter (already engaged with someone else)
Wouldn't happen if the area was broken into 4-5 zones with separate spawners tho!
My mage has been in Moonsedge for 15 minutes and has killed 21 things. This just doesn't work, I'm going to have to hit Hinterwilds or something.
i hope swarmer’s grief is the swarmiest hunting swarm that ever swarmed
I hope it's not two 50 room areas
I'm playing a new fun game right now.
How many rooms can i walk through without finding a critter that I can fight (that someone else has not already engaged with).
My max is 68
At that rate is it better to just stand still?
Its better to just let me have the mobs IMO.
Sad part is - Dreaven's crew was in there with me too... so there was no lack of characters
How many rooms/second do you cover? It has to be a handful.
i usually run with a 0.1 delay per room... So that covers the ground pretty quickly.
With so many groups running around at light speed it's no wonder the spawns can't keep up. I have yet to see the types of problems with spawns ya'll talk about, but I don't script so I am moving a lot slower.
The delay ends up being more than that though.... i'll record my next session with video, so that I can get a sense of how fast it's actually moving per room.

So it looks like it's actualizing at 1 room per 0.5 seconds the way I have it setup. Edit: So 60 rooms takes about 30 seconds
I find it's almost identical speed to when I cruise rooms manually.
If it's 1 room per 0.5 seconds, 60 rooms would take 30 seconds.
When there are multiple groups going around I just slow down. Seems to help.
Lol - thank you sir.
Math is hard 😅
Math is hard I been saying this
The thing is in HW I casually stroll through with just my empath and I run through rooms with 2, 3, sometimes 6+ critters and hardly anyone is in the hunting area.
So either:
All of the large and efficient groups hang out in ME (which I doubt is the case but I haven't really hunted all that much in HW)
The spawn rate in ME is much lower than HW for some reason
The large single areas of ME is creating all of these issues.
A combination of 1 and 2.
Moonsedge is such a large area. The castle alone could easily be broken up into 3 or 4 areas, then the community could come together and be like hey, areas 1 and 2 are for solo or small groups who don't want to fight huge swarms, areas 3 and 4 is for the larger groups/people who want to fight swarms. Then everyone would be happy.
There are also possibly different approaches. One of the large Hinterwilds groups I know just camps a room without moving, so they end up increasing spawns through that area. And I won't engage with a room unless it has at least five creatures, so things have time to build up.
No idea what people are doing in like 5/8ths of the Hinterwilds, though. I only see what I see.
what still boggles my mind is what changes to make it get super super swarmy at times? The feast or famine aspect is so bizarre.
Because if what we think the case is that Dreaven just called out above, why would it be dramatically different at times?
I kind of like that one group just stakes a claim to one room and goes Ham.
Anyone tried casting Provoke?
will people sitting in the library count toward the spawn rate? that seems easy enough to test
Holy heck. I literally just got to ME after not playing for the past 3 hours and I already had 10 critters in one room.
7 critters in another room.
yeah, i just went out for a hunt to and it's hoppin all of a sudden
Anyone else find the irony in the fact that 4(?) months ago there was a thread that the hunting grounds were swarming because of MA’ers and now we have exactly the opposite problem? Do you think the GM’s tweaked settings because everyone complained and now we have to reap what we sow?
Nah. This roller coaster has been a Moonsedge thing for years
Ahh ok..
provoke really does nothing for the spawns in me
Ugh... as many annoying mechanics as there are in Moonsedge (disarms, itchy curse, sympathy, etc...)
I've decided the one I hate more than anything else, is that the conjurer orbs can open roll kill you from an adjacent room.
Their orbs can't kill, the orbs are a creature buff. I think you mean the rifts
Yes, the rifts... i thought the orbs caused those?
They spit the orbs out and they buff all the creatures in the room, and can be dispelled. Never seen it have a correlation to the rift. They just straight up cast the rift and nuke you like the disciple anomaly
ahhh, got it. I guess I never paid attention to how they all played out. It's just chaos when It drags me into the rooms 😆
But it really grinds my gears that something not even in the room can kill me.
I wonder if the spawns have something to do with day/night.
Auchand has stated a few times that there are no non-standard spawns in the game.
It's because it's two huge zones. That's all it comes down to. Area needs to be split up. Then it'll be great like Hinterwilds and the Hive

What mechanics have been noted on breaking the grotesque shields? I had been spamming hamstring until it was successful, but I tried swinging at them until the shield fell and then hamstring. I'm getting the shield down in 1 swing (typical) and sometimes 2 (rare).
Saves me a bunch of stamina. I tried spamming Voln symbols at them (I was hoping sleep would trigger their shield), but they don't seem to do anything. That would have been a cool, resourceless solution but just swinging once is pretty effective.
it's 319. it is a guaranteed block and sometimes more depending on their lore basically. you can just do an unarmed jab from defensive (it doesn't have to hit to pop the shield) if you want to save stamina. 2 seconds
This is a good tip and my new go to
Do quickstrike 1 jab too if you’re pressed for time. Doesn’t cost much stam.
I'm worrying about getting Sailor's Grief hammered down at the moment, but once that's done, I'll probably take a look at all of the existing Ascension hunting for a balance pass, including spawns.
I have to admit: I've been curious about whether spawns are also relatively slow in the Hive and it's just that nobody knows because almost nobody's there.
Hopefully the potentially very high threshold for gemstones is considered.
I bet Auch is patting himself on the back standard with flair. Its an achievement !

Looks like that vampire wrecked the kid. Serious answer: the "bamf" mechanic is tremendously janky and that sort of stuff just happens.
cause to me it looks like I had a vampire disabled with 301, I then killed it with 320, but instead of dying it went east, but also was stunned, but also stayed in the room and killed the child...
Yeah the vampire bamf is cool conceptually but I don't blame them for having a hard time working out all of the bugs because I can only imagine what's happening under the hood in GS with checks on/around creature death and room movement, plus every available means players have to cause creature death. End result is weird stuff like that just happens with vampires
well whoever designed that, now you have a child's blood on your hands
but more importantly I'm out 1k bounty points, unforgivable
Maybe there was a second vampire on the grassy knoll.
I thought maybe there was a second but there was only 1 when I came into room and I don't see one come in at any time between me entering the room and the kid getting wacked
oh and the vampire was actually still alive and well after killing the kid. I had to kill it again...
I've seen the stupid bamf mechanic activate all the time on a death hit, but they always end up dead in the other room. First time I've noticed it negate a death
i mean it literally only activates on a death hit. It's supposed to, afaik, stop the rest of the attack sequence once it triggers but stuff keeps getting through and hitting it while it's in the other room which is how you find them dead in another room (the bug is the died a second time to a hit that shouldn't have happened, probably)
What i assume happened is killed it with that beast of a 320 and it bamf'd. Your weapon flared or whatever, which you didn't see cause it's happening the next room over. It "killed" it again but it bamf'd a second time and boomeranged back to you.
decided to pick on someone its own size since you already killed it twice and took out the kid.
😩

Considering the open roll, that final result isn't that bad - only had a 3% chance to succeed otherwise
I’m an open roll pessimist. I see only a 5% chance to have your 3% possible exceeded by an average of 1600%.
ME seems really swarmy today
I certainly didn't open the locked door, but today I learned you can take a hot bath in the master's quarters
Can anyone tell me what triggers a ghast's acid cloud reaction thing?
It's 716, Pestilence. It happens 25% of the time you attack them. It uses a hidden sorc CS vs TD warding roll to determine success.
With any attack on the caster, there is a base 25% chance that the miasma will react and fire on the attacker, using a hidden CS roll to determine if the attacker becomes infected. If the hidden roll is successful, the attacker will take immediate concussion damage and a disintegration critical, along with additional DoT cycles, and be diseased.Maybe more than 25%, I forget how much lore creatures get.
ME is definitely back in full swarm mode at the moment
That diseased status doesn’t show up in health or the xml feed whatsoever.
I wonder if we can get it fixed to at least show up as diseased
It may swarm sometimes without rhyme or reason but as a general rule spawns are SO BAD and the area is so packed with people now that ME has been moved to Unhuntable status for me. My wizard will have like 4 ticks of crushing dread and still be at 400/500 mana. I can’t justify spending time there anymore. Which sucks because HW is awful for wizards but idk what else to do.
I'm gonna find my one crappy first gemstone to say I did it and then move back to SoS probably
That single room nonsense again
Town was barebones. Choose a random room in castle to move to and wham.
i just went through 126 rooms before being able to have critters, isolated from other people, that I could attack.

So much for getting a quick hunt in.
Need that Sailor's Grief to break people up more! There's a scheduled Simucon talk about it, so maaaaaybe... 🙏
I ran into a grimswarm orc ranger just outside the castle the other day.... first time i've seen grimswarm around there
I passed people doing a grim raiding party task there like last month. I was likewise confused.
It would be cool if vampires could "turn" other critters.
Also here: a Grimswarm Troll Ranger Vampire
what is wrong with moonsedge spawns? literally 10+ minutes of just wandering around trying to find stuff to kill
Yup… I left and went to Hinterwilds. Might never come back 😂
It's pretty weird. I hardly notice a difference in spawn rates if I bring just a third of my army to Moonsedge or my entire army, and in either case the spawn rates seem very low.
Yeah I gave up on the area over the spawns, sad but until they're fixed it's not worth running around forever trying to find stuff.
They all spawn together and die together semi instantly.
If I walk past a creature and then step back into the room to fight it, a group will already be there .5 seconds later.
So every min or two the critters appear and then are hunted out within moments.
A character or group zooms past every few seconds, if it takes that long. The spawns are being killed almost immediately as they gen.
Yeah so we need more spawns
you've made the right choice 😁
I have been trying to go after the grotesque's lately but man they are stil such a huge mana sink. I can hunt almost indefinitely if I leave them out.
Yeah, I can basically hunt there indefinitely because I'll kill something and then run around for a few pulses before finding something else.
Auchand's going to get so sick of us complaining he's going to send it in the complete opposite and have 20+ in every room.
Funny thing, once you put a certain amount in a room and they start buffing each other it gets out of control quick.
I’d rather have this than how it currently is
I asked Chad GPT about brute forcing the whisper to the sealed door (assuming it's 20 characters or less) at two guesses per second and it says it will take 615 quintillion years
a journey of 615 quintillion years begins with one step
Probably in 2 or 3 quintillion years they’ll update the password
but that's with random character isn't it? I would not expect a role playing door password to be a random string of characters. A dictionary attack with English phrases would be a much smaller search space. Even smaller if you limited it to things related to Gemstone lore
back when I still cared about that stupid door I had it compile a list of thousands of guesses based on the clues available in the rooms, no luck
Jaron Galarn disagrees
That guy was a pain. Follow him in and he’s dead with pookas all over.
that's why I don't agree with people saying "Chase" there (yes it happened a few times to me). It's kill quick, or be killed
lol, last time I heard someone yell chase was hunting giant rats in the sewers nearly 30 years ago
I would assume anyone saying chase in 2025 was joking and move on with my day. They are not to be taken seriously

"Oh, I know, I'll go hunt Moonsedge to fill my head real quick before I have to step away," I thought to myself, and so I did. "It'll be a fun change of pace!" I believed. And then I tried it, was quickly reminded that it's basically unnavigable without script movement, and did not fill my head before just leaving.
The regulars are all like small dogs having the zoomies in a small apartment. If you don't do the same we're lapping ya and killing all the monsters as fast than they can spawn.
Yes, and I can't fault them. It's the only sensible way to hunt there.
But I enjoy moving around manually, so not the place for me! And that's alright. Just a bit of culture shock over here, I guess. 😄
the first 12-15 rooms before the bridge are all numpaddable
I'd head to the crypt first if you want to move around manually
I walk around by hand a good bit.

I like to just stroll around peering everywhere. That’s just me.
yeah I hunt manually. I used to peer when I first started but I stopped being that cautious a while ago. my 335 nukes swarms pretty well now so I'm less scared of them

It's VERY swarmy right now
someone should track this swarmageddon effect
no moons are out right now - dunno if there's a link tho
Liabo is about mid-cycle for full moon
Haha.
It’s likely a cause of more solo hunters in the area no moving as fast and clearing as many mobs as the MA’ers.
It doesn’t take much for it to build up fast without MA groups zooming through and clearing it out.
I don't hunt there much I see cyclical patterns of people complaining how dead or swarmy it is. lol
from one perspective, it could be "dead" because the MA'ers are killing them that fast. Giving the benefit of the doubt that they kill anything and everything they stumble across
which leads another thing to account for: Solo hunters. I can promise I hit everything I come across, but I have to wonder if
a) some of the solo hunters are skipping some of the spawns because they are hunting specifically for an X creature
b) solo hunters are slower to kill or just not landing that killing blow / crit kill blow "fast enough" and then more creatures pile into the room
and/or
c) In the instance they aren't doing adventure guild, if they are just doing the quest and (once again) hunting strictly vampires
please note: I am not complaining about the MA'ers nor solos. this is just speculation / theory guessing.
I get skipping a room with 3+ mobs in it. Sometimes I try to fight it off if I have enough CDs at my disposal and able to cast 1650 before mystic (whatever) kicks in to prevent casting
Just my guesses for an explanation of the "too swarmy" and "too dead"
Yeah I'll tackle whatever I face heh. I just feel like the spawn rates are mentioned here more than the other ASC hunting grounds so I was just curious if there was some natural phenomena explanation other than hunting pressure.

Thats almost as good as: if you step on a crack you break your back, hop over a crack and all day long you'll have good luck.
When I solo hunt I skip certain mobs like grotesques. When I group hunt, I buzz saw through everything. I’d imagine most do the same in terms of skipping certain mobs when solo.
They’re fine in a vacuum, but they are significantly tankier than everything else which is an issue when there are one or two in a swarm
You also see a horned basalt grotesque, a horned basalt grotesque, a horned basalt grotesque, a horned basalt grotesque that is lying down and a horned basalt grotesque that is lying down. or three or four or five

Surprised this still happening at exactly the amount it was even at 20% crush resistance even though I'm now 40%. This working as intended?
i believe bear hug is just health damage, no resistance would matter
guess it's the wording with "crushing" that's throwing me off as it implies crushing damage shrug
Just concussion damage
So is there a resistance to mitigate concussion damage, or is it not a crit? E.g. would only damage padding help?
If its not coming from a crit, you need damage padding.
If you mean concussion damage like this, then damage padding will not mitigate. it's pretty common from a lot of sources, but is easily ignored with high health regen

The healer in Icemule Trace, Mirtag, is working on a concoction that requires a stalk of bluebells found in Moonsedge near Icemule Trace. These samples must be in pristine condition. You have been tasked to retrieve 5 samples.
:/
I got this 3x 4x in a row and yeah.... there's no rooms I can find with bluebells.
Auchand not being a member of the CanTag club makes me sad.
Bluebells behind the sealed door?
nothing gets assigned except bluebells right now and no they're nowhere in moonsedge
I got them assigned yesterday, and found them in the first two rooms when you enter Moonsedge. Didn't go looking elsewhere. Must have been added recently
As far as I see, bluebells are now in every outdoor room in ME
A couple months ago, I definitely got foraging bounties that were found in the crypt
Pretty much all of mine have always been in the crypt. So this was definitely a weird change.
were you actually able to forage one? cause I tested it last night and they were nowhere in ME
yeah, I did a bluebell bounty successfully at around 6pm yesterday. "forage bluebells" in the first two rooms (Old Road). I could forage sense them everywhere else I looked (outside of the castle, I assume they are not in there or the crypt). I don't think they should disappear at night.
(120 survival and a Green Thumb gemstone, but I don't think that should make a difference to finding them at all)
so what I was doing was forage for bluebell which doesn't work, gotto be "bluebells"
👆 This guy, what an IDIOT (this was a joke)
ikr. I checked everywhere last night and was like, they're NOT HERE. Even submitted a bug report. sigh.
Seriously though, there have been some improvements to the syntax/flexibility of the foraging system but it remains frustrating to me and I am wholly empathetic to Brute's plight.
Yeah foraging syntax has always been messy, especially for things that are "stalk of" or "sprig of"... just "forage bluebells" with these, and I never mess around with adding a "for"
I haven't seen a single bluebell
Ok, just found one right when I entered the gate

Just another night at Moonsedge with the organ powers active... 😉
what's going on with moonsedge and bluebells?
they're an invasive species that has recently popped up
in a weird way, the first thing that popped up in my mind with bluebells and with Moonsedge being close to Icemule was Blue Bell Ice Cream 😛
Moonsedge is so farmed out right now it's sad. Like really sad
I mean it’s not exactly surprising that the most conveniently accessible ascension hunting area would see the most traffic.
Just.... jsut normalize spawns
please dear mob spawning deity
ME needs split into more "zones" and that would fix things most likely. Two 50 room areas can spawn "normally" but feel really sparse. Turn that into four 25 room zones and it'll probably feel better
I'm not talking spawns though, i'm just talking loot.
I've farmed for 2 days now and haven't found a SINGLE item worth more than 30k at the gemshop or pawnshop. Somewhere between 2k and 3k mobs killed.
Oh. ME loot has always been atrocious though, even pre-gemstones. Not surprising it's even worse now
LOL
After having hunted ME for like the past... 4 months? I haven't found anything worth anything once. (Except gemstones)
I had hoped that another ascension area would let some loot pressure off, but nope.
It's definitely gotten worse. After a fresh reset, you'd at least still get enhancive drops. Those don't even exist now.
It’s a relatively easy zone you can just walk into from town with no entrance mechanics, it’s gonna stay stripmined I’m afraid lol
Sadly, i think you're right
HW is ruined too now though. I pulled all my characters out, split between the Hive and SG. Gemstones wrought havoc on my previous favorite area of the game and now it’s just full of people’s Nelemar alts. No thanks. (That’s why you won’t see me at wyrms anymore, btw, I’m out on the zone until Auchand buffs it to clear some of the scrubs out)
Deadpits and GC are still pretty ok.
I'd move to HW and use the Pits if i had any kind of solution for offloading loot and wasn't stuck sitting with 300 people in the pipeden.
It's just bonkers to me to funnel so many players into HW as an area and not give simple solutions for selling down or resting peacefully.
Even moonsedge has a sancted & noded room in it for resting 😆 Regardless of the fact that there are an abundant amount of nodes/super nodes accessible within 5 seconds of it
Yeah HW is only good if you have access to FWI
Well good loot would be nice.
Any loot is better than no loot though. And there's always the free tarts
Nice place to take a bath, too
wat
there's a bath in the master's lair. you can sit in it and get a crisp fresh smell. wouldn't recommend it while beasties are in the room.
Oh that sounds like fun
surprised it isn't full of blood
just depends on the time of day/night for how busy the "traffic" is. i'm kind of hoping when the "space ships" come (as they were called during the Con), that that will help since those will be their own instance from what I understood but i dont know if it'll be enough. personally I was hoping SG would encourage more of the armies/traffic folks to go there vs M.E. with some QOL that happened such as FWI access but I'm going to take an educated guess they don't because they dont like swimming to go from area to area to hunt.
I haven’t even been to SG. Sounds annoying to get to.
it's 20k silvers to get there from Solhaven. it's fun but very rough/tough but it's my understanding you can teleport to FWI now. There is a bank and a few other buildings there too (I think herbs etc but i dont know specifics offhand)
after my time on test i knew sg would be for a niche audience. maybe slightly less niche than the hive simply by not being zul, but that remains to be seen
actually you can get to zul much faster by comparison, and it can be targeted by mounts, so maybe sg will change some minds on the hive 😁
All 100+ mobs yield the same exp and the same chance at a gemstone. Going to a hunting ground that’s split by annoying obstacles is well annoying. And certainly not worth the effort when there’s no more reward than hunting in any other ascension area. SG is fantastically coded and has a lot of flavor yet to be seen, frankly though… it’s not worth the swim.
hey there you have it, not worth the swim. stay away.
Oh I am staying away. But that’s my point, if we introduce new hunting grounds in order to entice people to stray from the overcrowded ones, there needs to be a reason. SG holds nothing but pointless obstacles and death.
Typically RPG’s offer higher reward to those with higher risk. That is NOT the case in SG.
hey for me the action is the juice
btw in case it wasn't clear the "stay away" part was a joke and not aimed at you. 😁
i'd love for more people to embrace sg as it is, so i can see how bananas the spawns can really get
I'm convinced they tweaked the loot system or opened up the feeders and broke enhancive drops again
you mean across the board of asc areas or just ME?
I only hunt Moonsedge, so can't really speak to anything else....
hey miracles are use 'em or lose 'em! 😅
i enjoyed sg. just haven't had much time to cause chaos over there 😬
This wouldn't surprise me. I started tracking dates of enhancive finds last month and I used to hover around 0.5-2 non-pawn fodder ones per day, but haven't found anything since September 17.
At first I assumed it might have just been loot pressure shifting around due to the release of Sailor's Grief, but that seems unlikely since my skin value hasn't changed at all and the overall loot value seems perfectly consistent (e.g. average silver per box, average gains per hunt); it's very specifically the enhancives that seem to be absent.
Edit: Actually, wait, it's even more drastic than I'm making it out. I was only paying attention to good enhancives because that's what I track, but now that I'm thinking about it, I don't recall finding any enhancives in the last couple weeks. 🤔
Something VERY similar happened when they launched the feeder system about 14 months ago, I think
This was it:
#general-announcements message
I am mostly hunting ME and I can say average gains per hunt are significantly down... of course it's too early to tell and last month we had less loot pressure because of DR.
Got really excited because I found a rolaren handaxe this morning, and maybe my fears were totally unfounded!
But Just kidding - 18k at the pawn.
I can’t remember the last time I found anything I had to sing to
The new normal, any enhancive is now rare feeder only!
i have also not found any enhancives in the last few weeks, which is unusual since i loot boost when looking for gemstones.
Also if people can stop skinning the undead horses for a while that would be great.
If I can't make my own little skull fort in the library Imma be very sad.
Found an imbeddible rod today, worth 15k. Big day
Looking at the last 2 days, 92 enhancive items were generated in the game via what we call the random object generator. I can't check this by area though, I do see a lot of low level enhancive and areas under level 50 when I scan the logs. Are we specifically talking about certain kinds of enhancives?
Specifically, it looks like most enhancives I'm seeing are either weapons, armor, or shields.
But I do see jewelry. Nothing great, but it is dropping.
I am scared to ask how many brand new items are generated every day from the treasure system, including gems
item ID 10202030304004404
The only data i can offer is from my crew….
Since the monthly reset, so no loot cap implications….
more than 8k mobs killed and 2k+ boxes (all from Moonsedge) and i haven’t found a single item worth more than 36k at the pawnshop.
I might actually be up to 9k, but need to check their kill trackers when I’m back in game
I’ll have to look back to see how long it’s been since I’ve found one, my gut tells me it’s close to Leafiara’s findings (mid September 9/17-9/20’ish)
but i always kind of assume I’m in soft loot cap territory to close the month and that’s what causes it… so didn’t think anything of it 9/20-9/30
I think that's a separate concern, which is one someone should look at. I was strictly looking at enhancives dropping. I thought maybe it was a concern about jewelry vs gear. But I see jewelry generating too. It is a lot more gear type items though.
Is it dropping from the creature, or in a box, if you can see that level of detail?
How far back can you go? 92 enhancives over 2 days seems pretty low to me when I can usually find 2-4 per day by myself.
Edit: Toward the start of a month, anyway. Slows down a bit toward the end. So I think that comparing October 4-5 to September 4-5 would be revealing.
And from what I see, it seems to be that neither jewelry nor gear are generating >35k value pawnshop items in boxes. It's not exclusively enhancive-related either, but I'm also not seeing things like temp WPS or other properties that would kick up pawnshop value.
I'm not even finding enhancive weapons/armor in boxes. I have a feeling ONLY creature dropped enhancives are spawning
Checking my logs.... the last time I found an item worth more than 35k at the pawn was on 9/21.
I guess a good benchmark could be "how many enhancives drop in a typical month" - that would give a benchmark against whether the 92 you see out there is a trendworthy or not.
Even better if there's a way to see "how many enhancives drop typically the first week of a month", with fresh loot cap resets
Both. Jewelry was in a box. I can't tell about the gear, but judging by some of the armed creatures, it would have to be in hand, but there is a chance I'm wrong here.
We are looking at it though.
When I jumped in, it was mostly about the comment in #game-chatter about no enhancives dropping. I don't think this is anything to do with enhancives though. I think it's something to do with valuable item drops, which enhancives will absolutely cause. No stealth nerf or anything like that. It has to be a system that got released/updated sometime in September (we pinpointed mid September as well) that has impacted treasure in some way at the top. The bottom is still fine.
And there are still valuable drops at the top. I saw Ithzir, triton, and Rift creatures all being armed with randomly generated objects that were enhancives and worth more than 35k in October. I only looked at the places I'm very familiar with.
If anything, appreciate you confirming we're not crazy 😆
Something is amiss.
I did just get an enhancive from a sybil lockbox. Nothing from the ridiculous amount of hunting i've done from the reset though
It is a magical item which could be imbedded with a spell.
It has 0 charges. It is rechargeable.
It could be activated by waving it.
It will disintegrate after its last magical charge has been expended.
It is an enhancive item:
It provides a boost of 3 to Strength Base.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 8 times.
It seems to have a huge number of enhancive charges remaining.
It will crumble into dust after its last enhancive charge has been expended.
It is a small item, under a pound.
It is estimated to be worth about 100,000 silvers.
It has a permanently unlocked loresong by you.```
I have a theory…
What if the loot system has a bottleneck on production of higher value items where it stops releasing after XXX amount are in the hopper but undiscovered. IE: boxes… specifically boxes that are in the smith pool and haven’t been opened (as in players who take long breaks from the game)
So it’s detecting… XXX have been released and is unable to produce more until XXX have been removed from boxes or creatures (that are in hidden rooms undiscovered by players that have no exit, retser once told me about blank rooms on osa ships that cannot be exited and created false enemy counts for the listen command. There are a ton of rooms in SG and ME undiscovered by players yet that may fit this category)
There is no hopper. It's all just a roll. Future items don't know that previous items released exist ever. GM created items are the only hoppers.
Ahhh ok well that clears that up then… someone slipped a decimal in the wrong spot then.
Or… RNG rules the day and we are all just statistically unlucky
I checked my logs and it was Sep 17th last time I appraised an enhancive over 35k, 5/6 of my characters exclusively hunt Ascension areas and one hunts Nelemar
The only release that added new creature content was Sailor's Grief. But seems it became something around the middle of September. So we're going through anything that could have impacted it at the upper levels. Anything under cap seems fine.
As far as cap is concerned, anything level 90 and below.
Kontii should get a 30 day 100% scroll. He has fixed loot for us twice now!!
I mean, i didn't fix anything. I just came and started crying about loot. Kind of embarrassing on my part 😳
I mean… saying that GS mechanics aren’t complicated is just silly.
None of us did anything yet. Is it better?
We're just eating our spaghetti trying to find the end of the bowl
Force a test enhancive into the system to be sure....
+99 to all stats pinworn, someone will notice it
(zero charges and is not rechargeable.....)
Imagine the heart attack that will proceed finding this..
Definitely not fixed... Jinsem just has that much faith in you guys!
So what youre saying is loot cap reset after its fixed...
What did we just break in Moonsedge?
Candles gloriously illuminate the polished stone surfaces of the castle's grand hall, a cavernous chamber that proceeds to the east and west. There are dozens adorning a singularly immense chandelier that hangs overhead, a three-tiered confection of gold and ruby. heard you guys wanted more spawns, we gotchyu
i mean he did say he was planning to buff the other areas 😅
Yeah is this a case of "be careful what you wish for?" because I just got completely destroyed in a room that had about 20 critters in it.
Oh looks like I underestimated that slightly, went back through my log...40 critters in one room.
I loved it... was wild. Would be cool if we had a witching hour once a week like this, lol
Yeah if this becomes a regular thing I'll have to change up how I hunt, I definately wasn't prepared for 40 critters in one room.
same... caught me WAY off guard
But i also would be shocked if this became a regular thing. Super unfriendly for 99% of players
Do we even know if it is a "thing" or just a confluence of MA armies around at the same time plus provokes?
#game-chatter message
No, this was on me. Been trying to track down a long-standing issue with how creatures are generated, and my fix worked... when there weren't multiple players in areas.
That’s sit up in your chair numbers of critters and hope you remember where your “Use Everything Now!” hotkeys are.
There was an invasion storyline in TV long ago (15-20 years) that did this regularly. All the hunting grounds got filled with huge numbers of critters each night.
A factorial slipped in somewhere? 1!, not a problem, 2! not a problem, but 20! ...
I think you kept going when you shouldn't have.
"No, this was on me. Been trying to track down a long-standing issue with how creatures are generated,** and my fix worked**... " (End)
Looking back at my logs... looks like the room that got me had 47 creatures in it:
Candles gloriously illuminate the polished stone surfaces of the castle's grand hall, a cavernous chamber that proceeds to the east and west. There are dozens adorning a singularly immense chandelier that hangs overhead, a three-tiered confection of gold and ruby. Huge marble floor tiles reflect the honeyed light, save at the center of the room, where jeweled tesserae form a mosaic of the house's briar sprig and rising moon sigil. just another boom or bust day in ME 😁
Peak GS.
I would have happily died trying to murder that horde
just warcry cry all, cman bullrush, whirl, wblade, shield throw, and bam, that whole mob is dead.
wait. there's grotesque. nevermind. pass.
See you eviscerate the grotesque, toss a 435, followed by wblade and a flurry, then go right back into that setup again cause in 10s you can wblade again.
And by the time they're all dead, you can coup the grotesque. Easy peasy.
well see what i do is jab to lower the shield, then warcry it, then tackle it, then thrash it, warcry it again, then bearhug it
that's.... a lot of things.
Are spawns back to being bad, or is it better? I'm sad I missed the invasions!
Enter room -> Evoke 1030 -> immediately run out of room to wait out cast RT. Repeat 5-6 times. Easy money.
evoke? X_x
Pretty safe in a room with 47 creatures!
yeah but... there's no reason to. it does nothing other than also maybe kill the warrior trying to warcry 😄
Yeah, in a room of 47 creatures I want to hit as many as possible at once.
evoke hits exactly the same number of targets. they got rid of this for exactly this reason lol
Oh, I thought it gave you 2 extra targets for some reason. Ha, been using that for years when the room is massively full.
it was like that for a little bit initially after the multi target change and eveyrone was like "well i'm just going to keep evoking" so they just dumped it lol
Good to know, I'll stop doing that...
and just cause citing:
#mechanics message - this was the intiial announcement that had the evoke stuff when it was released on the test realm (clarifying for anyone randomly looking here in the future somehow)
https://gswiki.play.net/Multi-target_spell/saved_posts - the saved post from when it was released from test to live dropped the evoke getting extra targets verbiage, didn't even make it to the live game
Skill issue
I just like the idea of bull rushing a mob of 47 creatures, just doing the whole Kirk throw your body at them Judo move then screaming like a maniac
Any updates on the loot system woes?
Nothing, we'll mention something when we discover an issue. We've added additional tracking to measure a few other things. The problem is, nothing changed in any system that deals with randomly created loot, so it's some sort of behavior that changed vs a script edit. Hoping we have some better ideas tomorrow. We have to run the tracking for the day. If this happened at the end of July, we could point to the feeders. And the feeders are still working just fine.
thanks, appreciate the update!
Feels like you guys are stuck trying to find a needle in the haystack on this one, since nothing was intentionally changed within the loot system in the last few months
It's a weird issue because nothing has changed in the code. So we have to look at what system is interacting with it that might be pulling numbers away. Items are still created, and enhancives are still dropping. It would be better if nothing dropped so we could have a clearer sense of the issue.
Right, that makes sense.
We're running a few tests right now, hoping we can get a clearer picture after the tests conclude.

Roundtime: 9 sec.```I found this today... admittedly not certain on what mob, but from SG. Saw it in my cloak and just sung to it. Why all ranks tho 🙁
From the sounds of it, a needle in a needle stack to quote my new fav TV show
Armor [4]: some gleaming rolaren arm greaves, some mithril arm greaves, a gleaming glaes helm, an old glaes aventail```
Hmm. At absolute least, I'm suddenly finding gear in boxes again. Now to see if any of it actually worth anything...
Edit: Yep! The armor pieces are junk, but the war hammer has 11 Influence and the crossbow is sighted.
Edit 2: Also a 4 Strength clasp and a 4 MOC/4 Agility/3 Disarming Traps torc in this batch of 77 boxes!
Did the change in loot coincide with the release of SG? I don't remember the dates.
SG released 9/12
Loot impact seemed to be a little afterwards, but they investigated if that was the impact already. I think they ruled it out.
Yeah, but it could be some weird interaction between loot pressure and the loot generation system and the release of a new hunting area. Complicated systems are complicated! It could be a thousand things. That's pure speculation on my part, of course, but this is the internet, and speculating is what we do here.
Could this be why I wasn't fiinding any boxes in the hive either? Maybe my luck is poor.
nevermind, i found one. 😂
It does seem that it was fixed yesterday afternoon/evening
kontii: ...there will be signs
me: >look kontii```
So it seemed... for one hunt, but I've been back to nothing since. 😬
But hope springs eternal. Maybe it's fixed today!
Edit: Well, actually, I partially take that back. I've still at least been finding
+ pawnshop things like a faewood runestaff or vultite studded leather, which is a step up above two days ago, but they only hit that number because of enchant/material/AsG. Properties like enhancives and WPS have vanished once more.
Same - it was fixed for me for an hour or two this morning, and reverted right back
I'd be curious to see if turning off loot pressure would fix it. (Or at least turn it off in ascension hunting areas.)
You ask the gemcutter to appraise a dreamstone inset platinum necklace.
The gemcutter says, "Sorry, X, I'm not buying anything this valuable today. Maybe tomorrow."
Oh hey, something finally set off my valuable alarm.
The necklace resonates with your voice, indicating that it enhances its owner in the following ways:
It provides a boost of 4 to Influence Bonus.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 24 times.
The necklace looks to have more than your average giantman could count charges remaining.
You sense that the inset platinum necklace will crumble into dust after its last enhancive charge has been expended.
Probably from a box that was stuck in there last month 😆 (kidding)
It could have been from that hour or whatever that everything was working. It's the only enhancive I've found this month and I've hunted more than 15k creatures.
Pretty similar #'s here. I think i found 2 or 3 similar items last night and this morning, before it reverted
Openng a pile of 96 boxes now, albeit from the Hinterwilds. Moment of truth coming up.
Nothing. Highest value was a 27k runestaff.
There hasn't actually been a fix put in place. We're still running tests and reviewing the data.

Oh she died

Blamed you or… you were to blame?
Just something I noticed.... The Grotesques being left behind - that seems like it's a village thing.
I never really see them build up in the castle.
I went to the village for like 5 minutes today to find a banshee (couldn't find one in the castle), and almost comically, there were like 10 grotesques running around. I cleaned up the ones I saw while I was there... but wow. It may as well have been a village of grotesques
I started killing them the last month or so. Suddenly they became much less of a headache with spirit wellspring, and lots of wracking
Golem tasks are the easiest ME task because they always leave the golems behind.
You don’t like running around looking for the 2 conjurers spread out in 68 rooms?
Vampires seem to be the absolute worst for me, followed by conjurers
ghasts, grotesques, dreadsteeds are always the quickest.
Ghasts take me the longest. I can never find enough.
I took a break from Moonsedge for a bit. I got to say the swarms in HW, especially the forest and gigas areas are a lot of fun. Every once in a while it would get really swarmy in the castle and it was great, but it's like this all the time up here.
I'll be back of course, because I can't stand not having a pawnshop available when I'm not fairly deep into soft treasure cap.
EG pawnshop access so good!
spawn rate in ME is excellent now (at least that's how it feels) as a solo hunter
not sure if the test changes were made live or if it's just placebo but it feels different
Nope.
Just to follow up here. Part of the feeder check right now is to also see what treasure is looking like. We introduced just something to record some data for us. No code in the feeder was adjusted, but we had to force some items out so we had a baseline.
oh of course doing the testing while I am under the knife, how rude
that's so weird- I was like a mob magnet yesterday. Just camping in a room and getting swarmed.
Why does HW produce more treasure than ME? Is it due to HW having more zones, more creature types, both?
Gigas went to college, undead only got GED Are undead usually poorer than living?
Maybe, but that sounds discriminatory to me.
I actually do not hunt undead 90% of my GS career so don't quote me.
Because everyone hunts ME because it is attached to IMT
No I think it’s because of an anti-undeadite faction at work. The undead deserve treasure too
HW seems busier than ME whenever make the journey out there
Because it is huge in comparison to ME. There is waaaay more differing spawns there and places to hunt that won’t raise the loot pressure. ME has 2 areas
ME may be poor, but undead in general are quite rich! hw, sg, sos, den of rot, crawling shores, citadel etc etc
I am loving Moonsedge with the spawn changes
HW critter levels top out a bit higher as well, which results in slightly better loot, all else equal
My rogue loves it, my cleric is strugglebusing LOL

my other legendary has Blood Boil on it though, and I really dont want to lose that
I thought Blood Boil doesn't work on the undead, though, and Moonsedge is mostly that?
It works on undead if they have blood...
Ghasts/Vampires qualify

Nice.
These ghasts are landing their stink breath way too often since the changes. One of them seems to have resulted in a crit kill somehow.
Unless their hidden sorc CS was increased, you're just noticing the effect of potentially more ghasts being around
I'd imagine that CS bumped up as part of the CA changes. There doesn't seem to have been a huge increase in population in my hunts.
I don't think a CS increase is meant to have been part of the CA changes but I am also too lazy to find Auchand's posts to confirm that
thanks cross-posted in that thread.
For anyone who doesn't catch it - yes, mobs gain +3 CS for each person in your group beyond 1.
Kind of funny, but by the time I am up to 8 on creeping dread these days I'm tapped on mana so it is not as big of a deal.
I saved it for the Wiki, but waiting on the GM post of CA - #1437571971079606352 message
Does the CS increase only apply to targets that are grouped, or do they spawn with it when they multi-spawn for groups and keep it?
It recalculates with each cast/swing on the bonus

Auchad.... When you do the ascension reviews..... any chance you can investigate making the sword hymn an area wide buff again, and not have to be present when it's played?
This would be a HUGE quality of life improvement for a lot of folks.
Vampires flying one room over to die is extremely annoying when you are doing "kill 18 vampires" bounties. Seems to happen with every third kill (at least, when I have that bounty!) Is there any way we can get credit for those? Or get rid of the "feature" of vampires flying to the next room only to die?
There’s a gemstone that prevents that, i think
but also that just needs to be fixed. i think it happens in the pits with something as well, iirc
I think the tradeoff would be the buff wouldn't persist outside of Moonsedge. It's fun to get the sword hymn and then run up to HW with a massive boost.
Totally fair tradeoff
Wait, what, is that a thing
Yup, it lasts 20 minutes so you got to get moving and enjoy it while it lasts.
If you're clever you could build a timer into your setup and run back and forth between HW and ME every 25 minutes and more or less maintain it. It becomes a pain in the rear end to do long term but sometimes it's fun

Haha.
I feel like their Pestilence so rarely hits anything that it's kind of nice to see it activate.
When it does hit - it hits hard.
If you don't catch it right away, the damage starts stacking pretty quickly
Yeah unless I react pretty instantaneously it starts to kill me pretty quick. I've died a few times from it in the past week trying to heal up from it.
Im not sure if someone turned up the pestilence rate but definitely leaving ME for a bit. Had multiple deaths from it yesterday where it killed me faster then I could react.
I don't think I've ever been hit by it, curious what the numbers are
Yeah same. My KS monk doesn't even get hit by it often. I don't know how it's trucking some people so hard.
Im not sure what stats help offset it or if its a hidden roll to determine strength but it hits sometimes for 20 damage ever other second with rank 1/2 wounds. Albeit a lot of my guys dont have the bloodstone trinket on them so that could help them survive it but it definitely wrecks some havoc sometimes.
It's a hidden sorc CS vs TD roll from 716. So improving your sorc TD = improving resisting it
Or just blast ghasts with dispel, I have to imagine you have the capacity with your squad 🙂
I wasn't sure if it was just a normal ability or was a spell they wore. Ill have to try it next time im out there. I think im capable of a dispel or two.

For the Moonsedge Organ, there is a 25 minute cooldown once it's played successfully. There's a 5 minute cooldown if played unsuccessfully. When a bard plays, everyone gets a 20 minute hymn. If a non bard plays, it's 15 minutes. Learning instruments helps increase your success. Apprentice level in all skills seems to lead to about 55-65% success. Moonsedge map with the crypt added instead of separate. The current lich map players use have the crypt and castle grounds on different maps
I have so many questions @@
Trolled by low resolution, brutal
But there's so much more!!!
How do we get to the room Past the bone lady with the keys . When is the underground assuming thats not water opening! What does the grey highlight mean in your view is there a difference between the Grey scale in the castle and outside the castle? And what about the ribeye steak place!! Thats not on the map.
grey is indoors, white is outside (it matches for in the castle and all the rooms in the main area / crawling shore), blue are the water rooms, off the quarters is the locked door we've never been able to figure out. i think he has another room off the organ too though
in doors vs outdoors yes... that's right there are buildings out in the courtyard wasn't positive... you think it's water? because it's not linking to the water, I guess it could be because it goes under the troll bridge. but it didn't seem to connect to the osa bit .. Your probably right and it't not connected to the underground entrance just off the trail there.
Did we always know about the crypt area? It was new to me - hadn’t discovered it on my own, and it wasn’t on the map
yes, it just didn't get added to the first visual map and no one cared to add it, so it got thrown up as a seperate map eventually
it wasn't in the mapdb for i dunno, the first week or two after release i can't remember if just cause no one added it or because the mapdb was locked and tilmen needed to approve it since it i think has a non-standard entrance, i can't remember
hrm, no regular entrance maybe we were just lazy or the map was locked for another approval 😄
should just shrink down the existing dedicated map and make a new version of the old one that just has it copied there. put some little masking tape clipart over the seam
I like that one. SG was uggo
Players assumed there was a bug early on because they couldn't find some of the herbs in the area. They were in the crypt.

i thought everybody knew of the crypt and the other things. only thing i dont know is the secret door still though allegedly figured out by somebody
is that he isn't around anymore, silenced for trying to speak the truth? 😅
Apparently there's another room (or even area?) in Moonsedge behind the door in the master's quarters that we haven't discovered
none of us can figure out the puzzle.... the door acts funny when you whisper to it - people have tried thousands of different prompts. Scoured all of Moonsedge for clues to no avail

### Why I'm fairly confident
* The **two-line layout** matches common architecture diagrams.
* The **letter shapes** match “Design Review” when enhanced (the first word length and the tall characters line up).
* The **two-letter bottom label** clearly resembles **DB**, which is commonly used for **database** components in system diagrams.
### If you want a 100% confirmation
Upload either:
* the **entire diagram**, or
* a **slightly higher resolution screenshot of the top row**
Because diagrams like this usually follow patterns (Input → Service → **Design Review** → Database, etc.), and I can reconstruct it exactly from context.
If you'd like, I can also **clean up and recreate the entire diagram in high resolution** so all the labels are readable.```
Yes, clean up the image so we can read all the text 😂
## The Diagram
This flowchart is part of the **Moonsedge investigation puzzle** used to determine the phrase needed to access the portrait entrance. GemStone IV
The wiki page itself confirms the **portrait in the Moonsedge Castle gallery** is interacted with and has writing on it, implying it’s part of the puzzle chain. ([GemStone IV Wiki][1])
---
# What the Diagram Is Actually Doing
The chart represents a **logic tree for interpreting the flowers shown in the portraits**.
Example from the gallery descriptions:
* **Lady Kolita portrait**
* flowers: **hyacinth, windflower, caladium**
* **Lord Attam portrait**
* flowers: **daffodil, desert candle, orange lily**
* **Ebony portrait**
* bouquet: **bay leaves, basil, arborvitae**
These flowers are **symbolic language (floriography)** used to derive a concept or virtue.
---
# What the Puzzle Wants
You follow the logic tree to determine the **final concept word**.
Players who solved this puzzle discovered the final keyword is:
whisper portrait redemption
That phrase opens the hidden entrance.
---
# Why “Redemption”
It ties directly to the tomb inscription later in the crypt:
> “Master, Deceiver, and **Redeemer**.” ([GemStone IV Wiki][1])
That line is the narrative confirmation that the puzzle’s outcome should be **redemption**.
---
# Try This In Game
Stand at the portrait and type:
whisper portrait redemption
---
✅ If you want, I can also show you **how the flowchart actually resolves to “redemption” step-by-step** (it’s a clever flower symbolism puzzle and once you see the trick it becomes obvious).

some of the before and after for Reference at Moonsedge. Anybody else or just me?
litterally just happened about 5 / 10 mins ago
went ahead and did a bugitem on it
This area is unplayable when there are four critters in every room from groups causing swarms. When it's empty I do great. Bad balance.
as a paladin, i handle it just fine
Yeah this is a sorcerers have bad AOE issue
ewave, grasp of the grave, not to mention you could get better gear that gives aoe such as the Energy Wings. and it's not like you can't single target things down either. if you can't handle it, then i'd suggest going to another spot. it's an ascension hunting ground. it's supposed to be challenging and the issue you described with ppl beign in Moonsedge to generate more beasties has been addressed not too long ago.
I have top gear. I have 46m exp. I shouldn't find an area unplayable at times from the indirect effects of other people.
group up with ppl if you think it's too hard to solo. i'm not a sorc expert, but i'd like to think there's something else you could be doing if whatever your current strategy there isn't working to clear the room / kill fast
I can't get a spell off in those swarms. Locked in rt. And most pay no attention to others in crisis or death
if you're bound and standing up, i get that part since it's difficult to know if a person is in trouble unless they are lying down. i get the frustration of getting RT locked and having to flee. curious - do you have a battle standard (paladin service)? granted it's just a 1 time per day, but it's something to think about for the tier 6 although the tier 5 is very nice by itself for shield (which will mitigate damage) and that's always active (passive). Ranger trinkets (for fire resistance etc) are nice to have too.
the only other advise I can suggest is just group up with somebody. heck, can group with me if you want. the only thing i dont like about grouping there is it's just the searcher that gets the credit to find a gemstone
My strat now is to just get gemstone one in a month and relax back in otf the rest...it's like gemstone in slow motion and I almost never die.
yeah it can get a bit swarmy and I try to keep them disabled or prone. if youre voln than symbol of sleep has been somewhat effective to throw in and keep them tame
I have played a LOT of Moonsedge.
Sorceres are by far the most difficult to play in there. It's just not suited for them.
The swarms aren't necessarily due to other players either.
Since it's first days, it was always SUPER swarmy when it got going. 6+ mobs in one room was not abnormal, even if no one else was hunting in the area.
The only difference now is with the change to mob spawns last fall, it's more consistently swarmy.
What problem are you having as a sorc?
Probably terrible SMR defense
Need the summons to act as better tanks. Some sort of enhanced guard skill.
You like animate weapons? Try out our new animate shield with a (15% x Tier) chance to intercept incoming attacks.
As Alastir said, sorcs are poor vs SMR, and Moonsedge is full of SMR.
709 is a powerful spell but not reliable in Ascension, so they are weak on CC.
They have no AOE attack option vs undead since 717 won't work. 717 is both an AOE killer and disabler vs living. 720 is alright but has a CD.
Nothing in the area can be animated. Animates are a great help with survivability for sorcs. You can bring one from another zone, sure, but it's not great that you can't animate ANYthing in the area. A death knight would be a huge help.
They're great at single-target killing, no complaints there, but single-target killing and nothing else is not going to go great for you as a squishy pure in Moonsedge.
Even single target killing is not especially easy. Most critters require at least two casts since 719 loses all efficacy after the first cast when target mana is drained. It is a fun challenging area when only another couple of solo hunters are around, but when every room has a swarm there is no ability to run, no chance to recover disarmed weapon or heal. And I'm talking about the baby area being unplayable....this section has no vampires or conjurers!
Vampires not counting towards bounty kills when it leaves the room upon death is frustrating.

Insufficient AOE (both Disabling and Damaging) due to those spells being level-based. If you get stunned it's over unless by spamming a Sacrifice Shift macro you by chance manage to hit it during a gap in the near-constant RT.
720 got nerfed to its current form after Moonsedge was developed. Sadly the sorcerer spell revision is so slow, by the time anything new gets released, the game balance has likely been changed in a different direction.
Demonology ranks to boost the spells power? Though it seems unlikely that the spell would mirror something that is provided by Transcend Destiny.
It can't have a cool down like it does and be effective in top hunting areas. It's great if you underhunt and focus on the living, but a lot of sorcery is surprisingly neutered against undead.
The workaround many suggest is to simply bail on Moonsedge for sorcerers. If the other areas were not so tedious to get to and from, I'd probably just take that practical path of lesser resistance. Still, as a sorcerer of Voln, the Moonsedge baby area seems like a place I should be working until transcended fully in a few more years.
was this ever looked at? cause it seems to still be the case, 3 years later
My vague recollection is that when it was looked it, the determination was that changing it would require a big overhaul to the bounty system.
I have 110 skill in survival and 60 in FA, and I think I am still getting 1 in maybe 10 skulls getting credit for bounties...is this a ME thing, a my skill thing, or a bounty broken thing?
Are you damaging the head when you get your kills?
312 is slower but won't damage skins/skulls
I don't think i'd say getting a low percentage at sub 2x is a rare thing though. I don't think I'd say my percentage in HW was what I'd consider acceptable until 2x and good until 3x
I'm not aiming for head. I know 90% of my kills are NOT head shots
its not just head its also eyes and neck
for what it's worth, i have 202 in both FA and Survival and I dont have any issues getting the skins
guess I'll work on maxing those ...survial is on the list anyway...but FA...well I'm sure there is some benefit
It's too bad that vampires don't sense bleeders and enrage in an attack like troll kings when teased with a blood feast. That would provide a good reason to do field tending, but in modern gs4 with now a loot cap affecting the zeal to skin, there might be better uses of TP than FA.
Mounted combat precludes bearhug...huge benefit in MS if mounts can enter there.
They can!
Anyone try mounted combat here yet to evaluate if it's worth the cost?
I'd be curious but my initial take is +10ds probably isn't making or breaking anyone so it really would come down to how often you get bear hugged. I know there's no way it would be worth it for my warrior because no bullrush. I don't think the charge AoE is worth it with a cool down. I mean it doesn't hurt but you need a lot more AoE than one every 60 seconds. So then you got the escape stuff too I guess.
I think for pures the cman immunity is really 95% of the value
I dont forsee myself using the abilities unless they are overtuned. I guess the question will be is the mount trample the same as other trample cmans and if so is it like a 5 rank equivalent or some level vs level thing.
My concern is how often I might get knocked off mount relative to the immunity gained from bearhug. It might not be as good as it seems if the other attacks render it moot.
I thought it's not live yet?
yeah. dont think it's live yet.

Is there still a plan to make the moonsedge organ buff apply when you ENTER the area instead of being in the area when the organ is played?
This was the last comment I think we got from Auchand on it (2 months ago)
#1437571971079606352 message
I hope that doesn't get changed. It's nice to be able to go to town, unload, etc. and come back without losing the buff.
Maybe I'm misreading it. If the buff was simply active in Moonsedge and you could come and go and get the buff as long as it's active I'd be all for it.
I think that's how it would be... the buff is active in the area (Moonsedge) for anyone that comes in, regardless of if they were there when it was palyed - it just falls off if you leave.

Sooo I hunted the RIFT and found three of those transmog Items. When I went to moonsedge I've not only not found clothings. but NO transmog items. I was finding tons of clothing before. Is moonsedge going to have transmog items??
I have found a couple of the transmog items in there. And LOTS of the new wands.
Moonsedge doesn't have loot. Everyone knows this.
Awe yes got my first one Awesome Thank you!
im just now learning this. i suppose itl be nice not lootcapping in the first 2 weeks.
Socialism vs. Capitialism!
Loot pressure has been bandied about as a concept but I don't think we've ever seen stats. How many moonsedge kills were looted in April vs the other areas that plug into the loot pressure algorithm? I personally find it a lot richer than OTF or Nelemar from a year ago, but there's no way I'll ever loot cap hunting Moonsedge myself.
moonsedge is super easy (comparatively) - it sounds like loot pressure is working as intended?
Are any of the 94 loot cappers capping in Moonsedge? Instead of loot pressure for Ascension, just set all such areas to have Moonsedge-like treasure as a constant. It would be nice to see kill counts for a month in all areas and sub areas. Moonsedge where I hunt has no vampires or conjurers...the other section should count separately like OTF old versus OTF north.
Funny. I thought Moonsedge was considered one of the most dangerous ASC areas
Moonsedge feels like it's got a couple of "gotchas" but it doesn't have the difficulty of, say, the GC.
i'll have to let other people weigh in on it, but that was my impression - that it was pretty easy compared to like, SG, the Pits, the Hive
Hmm, interesting. I really wish they’d put somewhere to rest in the HW’s. I’d probably just live in The Pits

Honestly don't know how I can hunt in ME. Its swarmy even in the day time. Once the hits, stuns, binds start coming my KS warrior is dead after the hit points are gone. !R>Symbol of Return ...wait 10 seconds. !R>Symbol of Return ...wait 9 seconds. !R>Symbol of Return You calm down slightly, catching your breath. !R> ...wait 8 seconds. !R>Symbol of Return The horrible pain in your side subsides. The pall of silence leaves you. !R> ...wait 7 seconds. !R>
I would consider trying the villages of HW if you want to hunt ascension... it's more physical-based and the only real thing to watch out for are wargs and their stacking pack nonsense of doom.
Stacking round times, stuns and binds ( all working together I might add) have become my utter bane and frustration ever since the Red Forest. Combine that with swarms and its a case of just giving up in frustration. It feels like the norm anymore. Just waiting for the timer until decay while watching the hunters go by. lol
It's amazingly better when no one else is around to rile things up. Sadly, that can change in a flash. You usually can sense impending doom when the organ plays, as that means a group is about to enter the fray.
One big thing is assessing your hunting routines a bit too - in all ascension zones, getting down crowd control mechanics to keep the mobs suppressed is critical
I'm using Carns, bullrush etc as much as I can but Carns doesn't last that long and you go to attack something and while in round time 2 to 4 come charging in. Repeatedly. So you end up just running around looking for a clear room to fight from only to have to run from that room once you engage due to more swarms coming in. Repeat. Very frustrating. Ended up dead and decaying.
Though a few seconds before I decayed someone came in to help. Just too late because as I went to say "yes sure to their asking if I needed help" I went poof. Ah well. GS hunting is punishing, more so at the higher end. If you don't group hunt and use bigshot you are kinda crippling yourself. I can't do group hunting anymore due to screen scroll and I refuse Bigshot. So, like the dinosaurs I'm on the path of extinction but in GS. it is what is .
are you voln? symbol of sleep and symbol of submission help keep things pinned down when youre waiting for cooldowns on cmans/techniques.
Im using katana/shield and just spamming aoes to keep things stunned and prone.
Symbol of sleep is an extremely favor-expensive spell... I wouldn't consider that as a viable longterm solution.
im slightly net postive on favor after a hunt but I use it when Im waiting for a pulse and have a bunch of other aoes with my setup. gotta be less expensive than dying
it's definitely a self-respect negative ability. I can't really feel like i'm not cheating using a 0 cast time AOE CC with no cooldown.
But that aside, moonsedge is probably the one asc place you can use it indefinitely without much thought about it since it is favortown USA. If you're like, into that kind of thing.
If Trans Destiny boosts your effectiveness with it... 🤔 I might have to go test...Haven't been tapping this resource, it just keeps going up and up.
Voln Favor: 314,059,682
dont spend it all in one place
Crowd control = run away, peer, and moonbeam everything... yes?
As a peer and move KS warrior, I do feel seen. Unfortunately with each room having swarms in it in ME, I just run until I find a clear room. Once there, hope everything and their undead brother doesn't follow me into the room so I can deal with one to three foes. Just hasn't been working that way. The swarms are stupid crazy. Day or night.
Perfect example. I go into Moonsedge and its around 09:30 EST. Kill a couple banshees before the gate. Kill a couple ghasts in the location south of the gate, with the N/E/S/W exits. (copy paste log I couldnt post goes here. lol)
lol wow. Never mind was going to post a short copy past of how it went from 1 banshee to 4 critters by the time the banshee went down and then a 5th critter. I then fled, this took less then 25 seconds. I stopped supporting Discord due to their shannigans earlier this year with Identity. So now I can't post multiple line posts. lol They can you know what off. I wont give them a dime again.
As a pike wielding KS warrior ME is great. I shout and or bull rush and then use an aoe weapon swing and I’m half way done with most swarmy rooms. Shout again, kill a squishy, shout or bullish and aoe again. Room cleared. Grotesques are the only slow down. And if you get nicked up too much just zip to the safe room and herb up. Or back to town for a healer.. ME was made for KS warriors
Just need to know if too many conjures or grotesques stack up and move. The rest is cake
If you aren't post cap far enough or have enough enhancives, stamina may be an issue. You can run out pretty quick keeping all the swarms down with all the war cries and AoE. Only thing I would add is to throw in bellow because that should lock things down longer than shout.
I am not huge into post cap but I did stack up a bit of stamina regen early on in ME. Made a huge difference and I never over exert now
Adding a +25% stamina prism gemstone is also a very nice stam boost

I started using Griffin and Crys recently. I'm not currently using Mongoose at all currently.
If your using your warcries than at 2/3 griffin voice you're paying full cost if stamina is an issue for you vs 1/2 at 3/3, I know using the AoE version in ME can eat up a lot if your going from swarm to swarm.

Just experienced Hive during onslaught. It is ridiculously easy compared to Moonsedge.
People have been telling you that ME probably wasn't the right spot for awhile but your answer was ... voln stuff
I didn't expect it to be THAT different. Hive was no harder than Nelemar.
No dread, no dispells, easy kills with 719...even empyrian stuff on ground is easy.
I find the Hive way harder than Moonsedge, but YMMV.
For a sorc I def see Hive easier than ME. All your spells work (including animate dead), no disarm
To be fair if he's doing it during an onslaught he probably wasn't getting ravagered and eviscerated nearly as much and people probably disarmed a lot of the traps
I feel like ME gets all the disrespect… I die way more out in ME than any other ascension zone other than SG,
Additionally brutal if you aren’t Voln and can’t time the buffs.
