Zenimax online tried this with Elder Scrolls Online. Subscription model to play the game. Didn’t even include a single player mode. And it failed spectacularly enough that they nixed the subscription and made it where a sub gives you extra benefits (and access to dlcs) much like GTA+. I have to think the industry has learned from lessons like this and understand locking the mode behind a sub will result in less money than having it F2P, and locking optimization features behind a sub (and constantly throw it into your face through in game messaging)
