danke
There's a google doc in the video description I linked
But not about visa, studies, etc.
Also ich lerne deutsch und will testdaf nehmen. Would you recommend to live in Germany for a while and then take the test daf and apply for university then or do all the teatdaf here and then mive to germany , there will be a minimum of six months before the next application opens. But i will most likely apply a year later
Well living in the country you want to learn the language of can never hurt. If you have the means to finance it, then go for it. I think that it's impossible to give a generalized answer to your question. It depends on a multitude of factors such as finances, visa etc
I dont think that finance or visa will be a problem , only really finding a place to live for a short period like 6 months
And all the documentation
Hallo idk If I should ask this here but I'd appreciate if someone could help me.
I'd like to volunteer as a firefighter in Germany but I don't know if it's possible since I don't speak the language yet , if so what would be the requirements to do so
i'm not a fire fighter, but i'd say just go for it. you might not be able to help in serious situations where fast and reliable communication is needed, but you will also learn and interact with a lot of germans and help is always appreciated in the local community. all you really need is to be somewhat fit, at least 18 years old and have no criminal background.
Ohh that's great I just turned 19 , do you know where can I apply
And thank you so much for the advice!
google "freiwillige feuerwehr CITYNAME"
they have a website usually
I just look it up thank you so much!
Hi. I'm planning on going to Germany to study German and I wondered if someone knows tips for getting a job to be able to pay for rent and German intensive courses. Thank you!!!
Hi. I would like to study in Germany, specifically in TUM. For that reason, I’m planning to study in a studienkolleg, and my first option was a private one but I’m not sure if -maybe- TUM recognizes the private studienkolleg as it would do it with an estatal one. Does someone knows something about it? ;( Thank you :’)
I recommend emailing tum themselves
but I already have many files . ex: updated CV this time when I apply I should re name it as " updated CV 2022?" is fine.. will they figure it out or else it looks like a mess .. that's why
https://ethz.ch/en/studies/bachelor/application/non-swiss-matriculation-certificate/how-to-apply.html
It's all on the website.. prerequisites, language requirements, etc
What exam are you talking about
No. And it says the exam only takes place in the eth main building
I will do it! Thanks for the advice!
it is only germany
hi, where can I get documents printed/photocopied? (in mannheim)
Google "copy shops Mannheim"
Just need privacy. Usual sports anime movie streams from xyz sites. And also use my indian netflix hotstar disney amazon prime subscription accounts here in Deutschland
Possible? And if yes will you suggest me to get paid vpns? Which one works fine here in Deutschland?
Vielen dank
your netflix will work in Deutschland but amazon prime is region locked. dont know about the others unfortunately
Any tips for finding wgs in wg gesucht?
Anyone know a good site for looking through university courses with search filters and everything?
In Germany
Hochschulekompass
Daad website
Danke!!
I've read Germany is a great location to study finance in higher education. I am considering applying from the USA to Germany for my master's
The Uni assist team is used to this, I think they know well that some documents can't be same for 2 years especially CVs. Anytime you upload new docs, the uni assist team will begin their process afresh. I have uploaded multiple CV versions and have got into unis too. If you are still doubtful, use the contact form and ask them directly or notify them using the same after uploading
Hello here, anyone has some information about scholarship opportunities for Non EU students?
I got admitted to uni but on private sponsorship
Scholarships in Germany Universities
Usually the unis website should have some scholarships listed
Let's say I get a part time job opportunity in Germany. Would my accompanying work visa and blue card be able to be used to get another part time job? Something not specialized like McDonald's or gas station or something. Does anyone know where I could find more information on this? I've been scouring the EU website and auswärtiges Amt but haven't found anything conclusive
hello? copycat?
is there a working hour limit for Blue Card? sounds like a question for the ABH but I doubt it would be an issue.
Hallo Leute! Could anyone recommend a Sprachschule in Berlin? Vielen dank!
What is der Berichtswoche
I got a goverment survey asking me questions about it
Aus welchem Grund haben Sie in der Berichtswoche (21.02.2022 bis 27.02.2022) und den 3 Wochen davor keine Arbeit gesucht ?
I never did anything between these dates
thank you !!! so I will just let them know that my previous uploaded docs are still there etc and be careful with the document processing???!
Yes
Hi guys somebody from germany here?
no
Just ask your question. That makes it easier for us to help you
I'm wondering if this is just a coincidence but is there anything similar in German culture to how many Americans are just straight up proud of being dumb? At the very least, many Americans consider "too much thinking," to the extent that it might lead them to a conclusion that will have them change a behavior, a "mood killer"
I assume this is just a dumb young people thing across all cultures since even most American adults eventually stop thinking like this as they get older, but it seems to be particularly strong here nonetheless. Thoughts?
(p.s. I bring it up only because I've noticed that even in the most toxic of conversations between some Germans, most are willing to at least defend their opinions on a rational basis rather than devolving into ape-like show-offs of masculinity to settle an argument. Even if that is still an insult-filled conversation, actually thinking rather than using emotion-based appeals seems to be the prevailing way of doing that)
Im considering to apply to german "fachhochschule" and i have some concerns
just ask
My laptop just crashed, sorry for delay.
@verbal linden hope you are still online
Anyway, I am finish my bachleors in Croatia and I already know that I want to work in Germany
So I decided to enroll to a German masters program. Now what concerns me is: is fh as reputable as university?
It is precisly Fh Zwickau, I choose it because courses are in english and it is basicly lowest cost of living town I found
FH is usually more about practical experience
it depends on what field u wanna go into
Are German employers valuing it as same as TH
im not a german employer so idrk
I want to go to road traffic engineering course
im not sure how much attention they pay to what college u went to
Hm
How hard is it to get a job in a field afterwards?
My german is midway A2 right now and I hope to reach B2 in year or two
depends on the demand and ur experience i suppose
I guess that would be a barrier
altho most jobs would probably require C level yea
Yeah I guessed that
Im very concerned that going from uni to fh would be a "downgrade" so to say
👍
thanks !!
Any idea how to open a Deutsche Bank account after i land in Germany? I am an international student and I am bringing my expatrio blocked account with me which will cover me during my studies. And is Deutsche Bank any good? let me know the hidden charges as well if anyone of u aware of
ovgu
ik issue is the expatrio. do i have to transfer the entire sum to DB or they will just take 861 monthly
are german unis flexible like american colleges?
can you "double major"?
i want to continue studying piano (performance) at a professional level while pursuing a a degree
no wrries
vielen dank
aw man that really sucks
what if i pursued musci "seprately" at a conservatory?
while still attending uni
do they have liek "sister" uni exhcange/dual enrollemnt programs?
This depends on which state you are in. In general: it is possible. But the rules and requirements vary. What would happen is that you are enrolled at the same time in 2 Studiengänge. "Mehrfachstudium/Doppelstudium"
If both courses are Zulassungsfrei, it will be easier.
In some ways they are, in some ways they aren't. When it comes to exams and things like failing, the German uni is much more flexible. Most of the time you will have at least 3 attempts at an exam you fail, maybe more. And you can, depending again on the area, fail for multiple semesters without getting kicked out (this has a time limit)
On the other hand, you enroll in a specific Studiengang, so switching majors is not quite as free as it is at American unis, especially if you want to switch into a Zulassungsbeschränkten Studiengang.
Deutsche Bank is fine. But I would recommend contacting the international office at your university. There is a good chance that your local Ausländerbehörde will not require you to have a specific type of account. And in that case, it's silly to waste the time and effort opening one at DB. You should check it first. I never had to, and I lived so far in 2 Bundesländer (always just showed a normal checking account, never had any issue at all).
Right.
Once i am done with city registration, embassy role won't come in play it seems
Otherwise this is the way
Do you need it for your visa to enter or are you in a Schengen area?
Will be in schengen area next week this time. So I was just looking around for activating my student bank account in order to start the monthly cash flow via expatrio. Sparkasse or monese r the other alternatives i found n studied bout...but i srsly want to avoid the virtual mobile bank. Having a physical branch is more helpful when it comes to customer service
🤷 where do you live?
I'm a student
yeah...but to answer your question more specifically: look it up at the uni you want to attend. At many unis, CS and Math are Zulassungsfrei and you would be able to do a Doppelstudium (it will likely be quite difficult in itself, though)
You could also do a nebenfach, which would be less straining.
what does zulassungsfrei, doppelstudium, nebenfach and mehrfachstudium mean?
Doppelstudium = double major (enrolled in two courses of study), Mehrfachstudium = multiple courses of study, i.e. a double major, Nebenfach = minor (I majored in Informatik and minored in mathematics), Zulassungsfrei = there is no Numerus Clausus. (abbreviated N.C.) This means that everyone who applies and has the uni qualification will make it in, there isn't a limited number of seats.
it depends on the uni, and I do not have such an overview of every degree 😅 only the degrees that interest me. Psychology, for example, will always have a strict N.C. Mathematics and Informatik often have no N.C. (but it depends, again, on the Uni)
https://uol.de/studium/zulassungsfrei
here's a list from the Uni Oldenburg
but it's only relevant to that one school
ok good im mainly interested in stem anyways
i was going to apply there
are you doing the $1000 euro exam?
apparently you have to do this exam to get accepted
yeah its still like $700 euros
no
perhaps you dont have to do it if EU
wait
SL is not even in the eu lol it shoudlnt matter
are you?
when i researched the uni im pretty sure it was mandatory
if you didnt do gymnasium or something
anyway yeha i cant afford $1000 euro just for the tes 😵
th esubjects were listed on the website i believe
good luck it seems like SO SO SO much work
are you residing in asia though?
germany is even cheaper lol
email them if unsure
yeah why arent german unis ranked higher? like genuinely curious
also asia
yeah i agree
but still curious as to why german ones are ranked >T50
yeah ik you can literally buy your ranking lol
A lot of the rankings depend on research output
and German universities are pretty top notch in that regard
PS Euros and $ are different currencies
yeah ik ijust cbb finding the euro symbol lol
However, that has more or less no influence on students up until bsc / msc thesis
The website has a bunch of sample papers and shows what the exam content is and what books you can learn from. There are also prep courses at some institutes in Switzerland
And I'm sure if you look it up there'll be a lot more sources
also ETH has a really strict german knowlegde requirement
You're definitely not the only one whos wanted to write the entrance exam
i coudlnt do that in time, thats why i gave up
the exam looked kinda hard for me as well lol
whatas ur level?
oh you still in high school?!
plenty of time then
oh yeah can anyone suggest some unis that DONT have strict german requirements?
i mean ones which offer german language courses alongside studying
ok good luck!
i wish i had prepared as early as you
There are a few unis that offer bachelor programs in English. Like HS Rhein Waal and Osnabrück
Public Universities alost none for Bsc. That usually starts from Msc
but im just lookign for ones with lenient german lnaguage requirments lol cos rn my level kinda sucsk and i woudl be applyign this year
rip
😭
theres no answer
jsut do it asap and when youre prepared
HS Koblenz accepts B2
But that's the most lenient you can get
And even then i wouldn't recommend starting uni until you reach C1. It's hard to keep up otherwise
😭
That's also an applied uni and not if you wanna do research afterwards
as a general announcement: I do not know what the specific requirements for a specific uni in Switzerland are. Go to their website and look into it yourself. Go to the websites of various unis and check their requirements. This is the basics of being able to get around. If the questions is not uni-specific and deals with Germany, then I can (maybe) help.
As for germany without german? Master programs. Or international business. Otherwise: shits creek no paddle.
ill probably be speaking german alot anyways
Your other option is Studienkolleg. i.e. you apply for a degree under the assumption that you will attend the Studienkolleg as preparation and achieve X level of german.
Can I ask, why are you interested in applying to an expensive swiss uni with an entrance exam (with a €1000 fee)?
Is it just supposed to be a really good school?
ETH Zürich is one of the best STEM unis in Europe
It's consistently in the top 10 in the world rankings too
So i can understand why someone would wanna go there
But yeah you'd need to invest a lot into learning German and preparing for the entrance exam too
I'll take a look. Thanks!
the more you know, I guess it does make sense then
I guess if you have 40k, 1200€ a semester isn't that expensive. But compared to the usual 300-400 Studiengebühren at public unis in Germany, it's a lot. Also, the cost of living in Switzerland is very high.
yeah, like I said: if it works for you then it makes sense. But to me, that is expensive, was the point and why I was curious
no, natives are yellow
yeah compared to america that's more like 1 semester 😅
wait, the UK doesn't have 'free' public uni?
😂 wow, what is it with the anglosphere and being left behind.
well, uni in the states is for-profit.
whereas in Germany it's not. And I haven't researched this thoroughly, but in Germany compared to US, there is less of an expectation that everyone will go to uni because of the way the school system is organised
you can do many jobs with an ausbildung
well, past a certain point the selection is so stringent that many smart people get rejected simply for not 'winning the lottery'
oh, it's not necessarily 'wrong' (I think it's wrong, but that's beside the point), but in Germany the kids are split into 3 schools very early on--at the end of the fourth grade, age 12 or something. Only one of these schools (Gymnasium) ends with a college entry qualification: the Abitur. The other 2, Hauptschule and Realschule, are aimed at other paths.
Sadly, at this age, your school performance depends a lot on your family status and parental involvement. So this leads to a stronger class separation and lack of mobility at a young age and, following from that, in the realm of education and employment.
jesus, at 18 I was so different from how I am now. Even choosing then I had no idea what I wanted. Can't imagine being asked to choose at 15.
you haven't even had the chance to unfold into a semi-independent person yet.
"Eine fachspezifische praktische Vorbildung von 13 Wochen wird empfohlen."
this is a Studiengäng mit keinen NC
so... when they say empfohlen... as in recommended, do they really mean that? or is it lowkey saying its a must in this context
Usually a praktische Vorbildung is a requirement. I think the "empfohlen" is for the duration of 13 weeks. You can always do more. Which uni and studiengang is it?
@fiery edge
Yeah "empfohlen" seems like it's not mandatory
does unievrsity prestige matter in germany?
should i bother applying to ones other than like Munich uni and TUM
I doubt it. I never heard any case of it mattering. Maybe for some really really ultra high-standing international firm. There isn't the kind of snobbery going on as in "Oh you went to XY? How sad. Well I went to AB"
Depending on the field, there are some more renowned universities, but it is not so important on the Bsc level. For Msc / PhD the institute is more important when it comes to reputation.
Oh yeah, and everyone hates Bavaria. But that's more of a meme 😉
The word "Freistaat" is a meme itself. I heard from bachelor acquaintances that it wouldn't matter so much. I guess beyond Masters and so on it is far more relevant
Depends on the field and the group / institute. Doing Msc/PhD at Max Planck Society has a very good reputation. Munich vs Berlin vs Frankfurt? No one really cares.
(There is also a Freistaat Sachsen, but they are not so weird about it)
(and a Freistaat Thüringen)
Why everyone hates Bavaria? Can someone tell me more about this?
Hello guys , i need to know which tests are mandatory to study in a German university and which tests are optional , please , i have a high school diploma , thank you
Ping me if ever answered :)
Depends on the degree and university, If it's German taught, usually they require C1, and usually they require you to pass DSH-2.
If it's English taught, usually require B2-C1, for example ielts over band 6.5-7
Some universities require even more like passing a TestAS
You should check it on your own, they will list all the requirements on their website.
So for a German taught one IELTS and TOEFL are not really necessary ?
I mean 1 or 2 german language tests are enough right ?
afaik yes, but I recommend checking the university website first, some degrees are both in German and English, so you'll have to pass all of them.
Usually every universities website has a page called "language requirement", you can take a look if you're not sure.
Okay thank you so much !
i mean it's not really "hate", but let's say, they are not the most popular state. Generally seen as a bit arrogant and always wanting that extra sausage. They also have their own party, CSU, that gives Bavaria comparatively more political importance in governance. It's also a bit more religious and conservative down there. On top of the that, the "germany stereotype" is pretty much a Bavarian on the Oktoberfest. 😉
Like, there was a contest on reddit where you could vote out the least popular Bundesland to determine which Bundesland ist best Bundesland. Bavaria was, of course, voted out in the first round. Then "Nochmal Bayern" the second least popular. Then again. And again. So... in the list of least liked Bundesländer Bavaria takes the top 4 spots. 😄
😆 It's fun to know, thank you. People say Munich is a nice place and I want to travel there so I was curious. But it's still attractive to me coz all my German friends are come from Bavaria.
Btw what's the most popular state?
Hm. I think no one dislikes Schleswig-Holsteig I guess 😄
It seems a nice place.
Can anyone here from CH can tell me what the numbers mean for these courses on migros-klubschule? Looking for an A2 course but i don't understand why some have part numbers and some do not, when they all have the same amount of lessons (for each type of course)
I'm in Germany right now doing B2.1 or B2 (1/2). I'm assuming that's what the "part numbers" are referring to considering the dates you posted. I would probably ask a program coordinator or someone familiar with what you are registering for. I hope that's of any help
ahh that would make sense
i'm gonna phone them tomorrow anyhow to ask because i am a little confused
thanks for the reply!
is it true that most germans in berlin know good english ??
Is that screenshot from Klubschule Migros?
Yes
the young people
the older ones no or like 50%
old people rarely
ty
I need your advice on something
Is it possible to do an internship in germany during bachelors
Is it possible to do an internship in germany during bachelors
I believe many degree courses have a mandatory / optional internship during the 2nd year or 3rd year
hi
Yes.
A lot of courses have a "Vorpraktikum" as a prerequisite too, which is an internship before even starting uni
Anyone have any recommendations for websites to look for apartments in Germany?
I'm doing bachelors in india
Oh if you mean doing an internship in Germany while studying in India, it should still be possible. I think there are internship visas for that. But obviously it won't be that easy
What do you mean
hi
can people in Heidelberg speak English too ?
same but in Tunisia , i should make it good so i can move on to germany next year , and by the way , just wanted to say , GOOD LUCK !!
What is the equivalent of american college in germany? And what could a soon highschool graduating american student do to study psychology in germany?
Ingenieursstudenten, benutzen Sie Ti-nSpire Taschenrechnern?
American college is (in most cases) equivalent to Universität. i.e. a bachelor = a bachelor
In order to study psychology in Germany, the American student is going to need to have very good grades (due to strict NC). They are also going to need a Hochschulzugangsberechtigung. Depending on their high school courses, grades, and whether or not they took advanced placement tests, they may need to visit a Studienkolleg or take a special test to qualify for general admission at a german university. They can check the requirements here: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/tools/check-university-admission/
They will also need C1 certificate.
Alternative: They study at a private uni like Jacobs Universität, where an english taught psych program is offered. However, this costs money and afaik this course will not qualify them to become a therapist due to the recent change to the laws surrounding requirements for therapeutic tracks. (see: https://www.dgps.de/schwerpunkte/psychotherapie-gesetzesreform/aktuelles/)
Your 10th grade covers your social sciences. You will be eligible
As for your high school completion, for Germany that would be the case. I completed my highschool in 2021, but I will be going in 2022. No idea for ETHZ though, but from what I remember ETHZ does require German proficiency even if the course is in English
No problem. Viel Glück
Hallo Leute
Ich moechte nach Deutschland gehen um zu arbeiten, ich bin kein EU Burger,
Wisst ihr wie ich ohne viele Arbeitserfahrung einen Job finden koennte
I wish i could. I would say try to apply for ausbildungs if you have an abitur equivalent (better than just having something less)
but you need b2 german
Can yoju get a visa by applying for an ausbildung?
Can someone send a website link which explains how to get an internship in germany while doing bachelors in india
yes, the requirements are similar to a student visa, except you need a contract at a company instead of proof of admission at a uni. Also, B1 minimum is required.
Just the most basic calculator that is recommended. I studied physics and math and have never used a calculator in an exam.
Hi guys , do you know If I need a transit visa of some sort to enter the Uk as an EU citizen? Its just a scale that goes from london to Berlin
What is "German higher education entrance qualification"? By DAAD I'm given "With your educational background, you qualify for direct subject-restricted admission for academic studies in the subject area of your previous academic studies and related subjects", is it that?
KIT uni requires one of the following
Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur)
Translation:
General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
(Relevant) subject-related higher education entrance qualification (not technical college entrance qualification)
Delta exam at the University of Mannheim (for holders of a technical college entrance qualification)
A recognized professional advancement course (e.g. technician, master craftsman) or an aptitude test for professionally qualified persons
As non-EU student who will have finished 3 years of study in my uni by the time I'll be applying, which of the following can I show? Is "subject-related higher education entrance qualification" the same as what DAAD says?
Ok seems like I don't have to take either of those if I'm applying for a higher semester
Hi guys , have any of you used housing anywhere? I'm trying to get accommodation in berlin. I've seen some bad reviews but the website is considerably cheaper than it's counterparts please let me know if it's a legit site.
don't know anything about the website, but general rule of thumb: do not sign anything or transfer any money until you have been there in person (or at the very least had a skype tour).
Hi thanks for your reply :D! I agree for the most part however, Im moving to germany in about a month and I can't check the apartment in person. Of course I'm trying to rent the least months i'm allowed to
Any recommendations?
It's difficult to get a place without physically being there. Especially in Berlin. So I think you should try your luck on Airbnb or booking.com to find some temporary accomodation until you find something more concrete.
theres also the option of "wohnen für hilfe". basically living as an au pair
What’s a realistic time to learn German to be at a level to study at a German speaking university, I’m interested in studying in Switzerland Austria or Germany and in engineering if that helps at all
Hallo zusammen! Wie geht es euch? Ich möchte wissen, wie forderlich/ beliebt Psychologie, als der Beruf, in Deutschland ist? 🤔
https://www.fersch.de/pdfdoc/Mathematik.pdf might be helpful. the goethe institut in new delhi has a library. https://www.goethe.de/ins/in/en/sta/new/lib.html. maybe they have german books also. you can give them a call probably. + 91 11 23471124
If you're starting from scratch then 2 years. Can take up to a year if you're learning it full-time
https://www.fersch.de/pdfdoc/Physik.pdf and here is the same for physics.
These are pretty neat. Thanks
Great thank you
Guys do you think a Goethe C1 level is good enough to do a German masters program?
Test DAF is at a level between Goethe B2 and C1 right?
I recently completed my C1 Prüfung successfully and will prefer studying in English as it is my first language.
However, being an international student, applying for a German program will mean a lot less competition and better chances of getting a place at a top uni.
Thanks!
C1 is the minimum required but even then its still not easy. Try watching a few uni lectures on YouTube and see whether you can keep up. It does get easier with time but know you won't understand 100% of the lectures at the beginning
2 years is realistic
Will do so. I also expect some difficulty in the first semester. Are there any technical vocabulary focused German resources so that I can learn some mathematical and technological terms in German?
Also, if you have any idea, how open is the course selection? I have read that it will be possible to take some courses in English and some in German. If that is the case, I may be able to manage half the subjects in German. Thanks again
Depends on how effective your learning is. There are super intensive language courses that get you to C1 in 9-10 months with 25h a week. That's why I said 2y is more realistic for someone learning on their own
Scroll up, someone posted a few links with technical resources
And regarding master courses i have no clue sorry.
Like i said depends on your learning method. If you're able to chat (speak) with native speakers regularly and have someone teaching it to you, it should be much easier
You could find some teachers and speaking partners on apps like italki or tandem
Or even here on this discord
have you looked at berlinovo? and easy living?
I want to apply there too in about 2 years. Where you live?
I’m from the us
👍
🧐
Deine Frage ist ziemlich detailarm, von daher ist es schwierig, dir eine gute Antwort zu geben. Psychologe ist auf jeden Fall ein angesehener Beruf.
afaik psychology is a pretty overrun field
Thank you! I'll probably book on Airbnb or maybe Spotahome the only problem right now is that the price is too high and the apartments are too far away 😭
Nope, I'll check them out right now thanks
Hello guys!!
Sorry to bother you again
I have a questions for all the berliners, How is Köpenick ? I've found an apartment 10 minutes away from there , I know it's not very centric but it's the best I could find for may. I'll probably have to some paperwork that will require me to go around the center, as well as tourism. Please let me know as fast as you can , because I know the apartment could be taken in hours. Vielen dank im voraus
it's at the outskirt of berlin, so travel to the city might take a bit longer, but other than that it's a perfectly fine area.
okay danke , I'm going to live there for about a month
ask tum
dont think living in germany is a vibe. its cold, grey and people are depressed. go somewhere where its sunny and where the people are warm
(im living in germany and its not cool)
well thats true too
oh well, yea i mean germany is better than algeria
do what u think is right and enjoy it, but my opinion is that u maybe should consider some other european countries
anyway just try to enjoy life
Is there anyone living in Naldo Region/Germany? I need some help with finding a place to stay. I don't know if this channel is the right place to ask this question.
What is Naldo?
Neckar-Alb-Donau
Tysm 😄
That's the Verkehrsverbund I guess? But like, in which area are you looking?
According to the picture, it would be located somewhere around Stuttgart
this is basically "everything south of Stuttgart for the next 200km". Stuttgart is not on this map
It's honestly not too bad, just kind of far from the city centre. But if you are hanging around places that are really close to Warschauer Str., it's not too bad. Also depending on the area it may be very residential. It is also in the eastern part of Berlin, you may have more run-ins with people who are racist if you are a POC.
@wind apex you an also asks questions relating to the visa process here
What Zeugnisse should i send for an application for Ausbildung? I already finished one Ausbildung in my home country and the documentation is currently getting recognised
just the finishing diploma? maybe sending grades from the 4 years high school wouldnt be bad either? not rlly sure
are job interviews done mostly with or without masks on? what are your experiences
i assume i wont need a negative test right?
I had my interview at the end of February and was given the option of wearing a mask. But they preferred it without so you can see facial expressions etc better.
Because of the strict rules that are in place there, we were all tested.
ye thats what i was thinking, i think it would feel more natural if we can see each other and the emotions better as we talk, although February was still chaotic but now that we dont have to wear the masks anymore ppl prolly arent as strict anymore, ill bring a mask just in case ofc and will prolly test myself beforehand
It was also more pleasant for me that no one wore a mask. The one lady was always smiling, which helped me a lot with the nervousness
I think if you do it that way, you are on the safe side. Good luck with the interview(s)
That actually sounds so sweet, manifesting a kind smiling lady for everyone during interviews
Thanks a lot, its been super stressful these days and reading a nice message like this helped me relax a bit, appreciate it :)
guys i have B2 certificate and want to see which universities accept B2 for study.WIthout C1 level. Is there a website or place where i can check without going one to one to the universities websites
took me 5 seconds google btw to find the link
it doesnt show all of them, only goethe b2
for example an university in mainz requires DSH-2 B2
but doesnt accept anything below Goethe C2,for goethe certificates
Thanks though, i will look to these as well
i dont think there is like a complete list, the requirements even differ between different courses at some unis
HS Koblenz has a B2 requirement too i think.
i would like to get a job in Germany(ideally remote at first to get me visa so I can open bank accounts and get a place, etc)
can anyone help me?
what field are you in? The only field I can imagine this working is informatics.
Unless you're in a company with a German branch, it is rather difficult to get a job in Germany without living there.
what is the law about watching movies & tv series in public, like i have portable projector and small screen, pop some beer and watch it in a corner of a public park with few friends. what would happen?
you would get stared at
I'd be looking at the screen to see what you are watching 😄 But as long as it is not some weird porn or splatter horror I guess no one would midn
i am talking about if i would get in trouble for copyright or some unknown law to distribute media
yesterday i saw people projecting Frankfurt soccer game that inspired me
anyway it appears to be illegal in UK to show movies in public without authorization I don't think Germany is different 🙂
https://www.mplc-film.de/page/lizenzen
it appears to be licensing costs 90 euros per screen for 1-200 people for free events. thank you everyone.
i currently work in project management, but I've done entry level IT support as well
Hallo, What is the minimum language requirement of a nursing ausbildung? B1 oder B2?
I'm receiving conflicting info
from what I've heard anything to do with the medical field needs b2 and above
I read something about being B1 and willing to learn to B2 when you arrive, but this makes sense. Vielen dank, du hast mir geholfen.^^
yes but I do think having a solid b2 before going can make things easier!
Sorry one more question. I've read that germany doesn't recognize nursing licenses/degrees from my country (Nigeria) will this affect the possiblity of getting accepted for ausbildung at all?
nope. what's more important is your highschool qualifications
the fact that you have experience (?) is already a plus
Ach so
I'm in second year uni so I guess that probably doesn't really matter but I heard it'd increase my chances of getting accepted
Thank you so much

hey y'all, so I'm an American studying mathematics/computer science in university. I've also been studying German both in and out of the classroom and I've made it my goal to move to Germany someday, the sooner the better. I'm currently faced with a choice of staying in university for two more years to get a second bachelors degree, or three more years to get that same second bachelors as well as a masters on top of it. my goal is to work in computational linguistics, either at a private firm or doing research at a university, in Germany. would getting a masters now be of a significant benefit to the ease of finding work in/getting a visa to move to germany, or would I be alright with just two bachelors? I will add, the 2nd bachelors (and masters) would be from a top university in the US.
Vielen Dank!
my impression of german employers is that they tend to prefer local qualifications and trust local institutions more than any other. Time in germany is also quite nice to have. May benefit you and improve your language from the get go. I suggest doing a masters in germany.
Hi everyone, im indonesian currently studying associates of automotive mechanics , I'm still on my 1st year, if I'm graduated and want to get masters or more advanced leved for what I've learned, can someone tell me if there's any university that suit me in german thank you 🙏
any Indian !!! hello my name is pawan and thinking of going for a master's in business analyst in winter I have talked to many agencies and they have said to me it will cost 13 lakhs to 20 lakhs for English taught programs. Can anyone recommend me some name for the same or ways for cheap I can study in Germany and what level of German should so i get german taught program
c1
& for an English-taught program!
After a quick Google search this is the only business analytics master program that i found that's English taught. https://www.ovgu.de/Operations_Research_and_Business_Analytics_master-path-37420,39794,21190.html
But yeah 20 lakhs is definitely a realistic amount for the entire duration of the course
Not so much due to the tuition fees but just living costs for the 2-3 years. That's regardless of language if it's at a public uni
Was sind die besten deutschsprachingen Universitäten?
Lohnt es sich, in den nördischen Ländern zu studieren?
Is part-time studying an option for someone who is on a work visa?
Context: I am currently a D-type visa holder and in the process of obtaining my Blue Card within the next 2 months. I am interested in taking courses through local universities in my city, Munich, without committing to a program. Is that a thing?
In Deutschland wären das die TU9 oder die "Universities of Excellence"
The TU9 are only technical universities though. In general, just pick the field/city you like, in most fields there isn't a big difference up until you do research. Then the group you are part of is way more important.
can anyone recommend websites to find short-term rental studios/apartments in germany?
Tempoflat.de and airbnb
uh i want a visa for a language course with a conditional acceptance from a university
would goethe a1 be fine for visa?
Are you going to a language school that offers the conditional acceptance?
Yes
Yea for visa the a1 should be fine but just make sure the conditional offer is there
how does writing a masterarbeit (thesis) work in germany? i mean not the writing the thesis itself but arranging a professor as an advisor?
You just go to a prof and ask them if you can write a master thesis in their group
Within my program we had a specific choice of labs/groups offering thesis work within the program, but you could also write to just about anywhere (another uni, industry program, etc) and ask to do your thesis there externally. You just ask if you can do it/what kind of work they are offering.
Danke schön!
Hallo ich wollte fragen uber wie hart die schule in osterreich ist. Ich weise ein bissen deutsch und wolte dort studieren fur college.
Hello! I will start a month testdaf preparation course in Germany on August and then I will take the test on September. The problem is that, in my country, there is a high demand on visa’s applying. Therefore, I will have to wait three months to have a meeting in the embassy. Im afraid of losing the opportunity. Does someone know what I could do? :(
I would really appreciate your help T.T
is it possible to push the appointment forward
Or postpone your course? There are multiple test dates in a year for the TestDaF
Realistically there's not much you could do. Maybe call up the course organisers and see if they're okay streaming the course on some online video call platform like Zoom or something
Thanks guys, I’ll see what I can do with those incoming meetings:”)
A stupid question
But after u get a conditional acceptance for studienkolleg and language stuff and book a intensive language course after doing a1
Do you apply for student visa or a language visa?
Idk really
student visa
Ohk got ya
Tho i lowkey have a fear that language knowledge is necessary for that
Tho mine is just A1 and booked further in Germany itself
Just hoping it wouldn't be an issue in approval
Maybe interview n motivation letter would cover up for that?
just fulfill all the requirements stated by the embassy to apply for visa.
if they are okay with A1, then you're safe to go
They did mention b2
Just not sure if it applies even if i have conditional acceptance and a intensive course there
the safest way to go is to ask the embassy directly
I did sent them a mail today
Would just wait for them to reply
good luck 👍
Thank you
B2 is the rule if you don't have a preparatory course. Studienkolleg should cover the preparatory course so I'd imagine the language requirement would be lower, but it may not be below B1, so you'll have to ask
Damn
Tho i plan to buy a language course
But yes I'll just wait for their reply
Does some one know the exact date of application for ausbildung?
I've heard it's on winter and summer but not exactly sure when
depends on the industry, there are various recruiting periods but you can apply at any time like with a normal job. Most Ausbildungen begin August/September
I posted a chart here earlier ...
Hi I don't know if this is the right channel to ask so sorry if it isn't. I'm planning on travelling to Germany soon does anybody know which website/app I can use to buy tickets for the train. I'm travelling from Frankfurt main airport, there are a few places I'd like to go to around Frankfurt and they all say "DB Regio AG S-Bahn Rhein-Main" and "Frankfurt Airport Regionalbahnhof (FlixTrain)" also on google maps it says "S8 Offenbach Ost". Any help would be appreciated thanks!
you should download the RMV app (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund). It looks like this:
there you can find the right (and quickest) connections, buy tickets, etc. You can also buy tickets at the Airport or any other Bahnhof/Haltestelle.
@exotic barn
it obvs depends on where you're going, but assuming you're heading into the city proper, take the S-Bahn. it comes the most often and is the easiest.
Am so confused
So i need to make a physical application?
Gm
What should I do, I'm a 1st year CS student, my grades are low but I can pass with it, should I repeat the year and get high grades or pass it with low grades, I'm planning to complete my bachelor in Germany, whish one is the better choice?
I'm sorry but i dont know the answer to it. One thing for sure, is that if you follow what the embassy says, you're for sure gonna be in the right track
Got u
thanks this helped alot
The way i understand the requirement regarding the language course is that you need to have booked a german course at least until the B2 level
So i don't think it matters too much if your current level is A1
Try contacting your language school and see if they can help regarding the visa. Look up language schools that offer "university pathway programs" too. They usually help with the entire visa process including getting conditional admission to a uni
I've written about it on here before
Are u a student in Germany currently
I did
Hopefully will go alright
Yeah good luck. I made use of the pathway program myself so idk the details much since they took care of almost everything themselves.
Lmao gon do the same
No I'm planning to complete my bachelor in Germany
What do you suggest man I really don't know what to 6
Well you should probably contact your target uni in Germany and find out if they can acknowledge the credits you've already earned in your current uni so you won't have to repeat it in Germany. If they can, then it's good. Then you can either choose to improve your grades at your current uni or do more subjects to take more credits with you.
If they can't/won't acknowledge your credits, then you'd have to practically do the bachelor's from scratch in Germany.
hey, i am currently a 10th grader, and would like to pursue computer science from germany.
could anyone elaborate the process of the application and what all criterias i'll need to meet?
my main target is the technical university of Munich.
i've also heard that the tuition fee there, is free, apparently.
😩 free edukeshyen
alright stop right there. if you're non eu your parents have to fork out 10 500 euros per year to be put into a blocked account.
not overall free. there are your living expenses
I know.
As long as I'll get a part time job, it's technically free of cost.
living costs in München are very high.
but regarding criterion: you need to go to the website of the specific program to which you will apply and check their requirements for international applicants. Check what level of german certificate you will need, check your country's deal with visas, check uni-assist to see whether your high school diploma is a sufficient 'Hochschulzugangsberechtigung.' Also just read uni-assist in general. (i.e. https://www.uni-assist.de/faq/dokumente-sammeln/; https://www.uni-assist.de/tools/check-hochschulzugang/; https://www.tum.de/studium/bewerbung/infoportal-bewerbung/zulassungsvoraussetzungen/sprachnachweise#c48035)
Auf dieser Seite finden Sie alle Sprachnachweise, die Sie bei einer Bewerbung an der TUM einreichen können.
there is no tuition but of course there are other costs as well, your Semesterticket costs ~300 per semester, insurance is around 100 per month etc. A basic minijob pays around 450 Euros a month (although at the end of this year it will raise to 520 I believe). So in most cases a blocked account is 100% necessary unless a relative is already based in the country and vows to support you. (with a Verpflichtungserklärung)
my parents will pay for the block account, but i will try not to use any money from it, as i dont want my parents to be in any sort of financial dilemma.
i'd most probably try to get a part time job asap, just to cancel all the basic costs
i've planned it all out.
i'll get a german certificate by 12th grade
then there's this entrance exam called JEE Advanced, which is insanely hard, but will give me a straight ticket into the TUM.
after that, i'll think about all the visa and financial stuff.
if i cant manage the costs, then i'll get a student loan with very low interest rates so that i can pay it back after a while.
BTW thanks!
i can definitely do it without a student loan, using a blocked account
either way, thanks, i really appreciate the time y'all took to help me.
well you are meant to use it, it's a German account which you have access to
yep, i am fully aware of that
i'll get the money back into my bank account after i complete my education, right?
wdym that IS your bank account l
unless you're asking if you can transfer it back to your foreign account
a blocked account functions like any other checking/savings account, the ABH is just able to confirm you have the necessary funds
see, for example, if my parents pay lets say 10000$ for my blocked account, if there's money left, wouldnt i be getting it transferred back into my parent's bank account?
I imagine there's fees involved with international transfers, but it's definitely possible. You arent required to spend a certain amount of money every month. The 10,500 number is just the minimum amount of money the German government has calculated for annual student expenses
yeah i see, imma research more into the topic then.
So im a 16 year old (10th grader, last semester), and i want to just know exactly what do i need to be aware of about living in Bonn and/or is Bremen a pretty alternative, because for the most part i know that university tuitions are free of charge for EU/EEA and International Students (correct me if im wrong because most answers on google are really vague on studying and what not) and the only things i have to pay for are general living expenses, groceries, rent, internet, etc etc (mind you i chose Bonn and Bremen because they generally seemed more cheaper than other cities in the country, again correct me if im wrong lol)
and one more thing, is studying medicine in german, or do i have the choice to study it in english?
[Quelle: https://medizinstudium.io/als-auslaendischer-bewerber-in-deutschland-medizin-studieren-so-gehts/)
I live in Bremen as a student. I moved here a bit less than a year ago from Hessen (also studied in Frankfurt and lived in a few other cities). So far, Bremen has been really great. The city is beautiful with great public transport options, very bike friendly. In comparison to other big cities (Hamburg, Frankfurt, München, etc) it is more economically friendly to live here. Also, the rents haven't gone as crazy. So it's easier to find a cost-effective apartment/WG room than it is in Berlin. The university is nice. Depends on what you want to study. I wouldn't say Uni Bremen is like great (it's no TU Berlin), but it is perfectly acceptable and in line with most unis for a bachelor in Germany. Overall: 9/10 would recommend.
@exotic barn
As for studying medicine: I wouldn't count on it. You need perfect grades and very good german skills.
well that sounds very great, i'll look deeper into it
then it is that route, time to grind even harder
Ja das ist das Problem 💀 sehr teuer
Has anyone done a “student kolleig” in Baden Württemberg, Germany region? If so, which would you recommend and how long does it usually take? I’m thinking of Konstanz city to do the courses there
Hu. I would consider Bremen and TU Berlin on the same lvl. Both good unis. Bremen is a bit known to be "left-wing idealists" and hippies, but that was some time ago
Maybe TU Berlin has a few more courses to offer, but the offices (at least for physics) are awful and one of the worst working conditions I have seen.
TU Berlin ranks top 5 in Germany for Informatik. Bremen doesn't crack the top 50.
And my experience in the psychology program was not abysmal but faaaar from impressive.
but yeah, in DE a bachelor is a bachelor is a bachelor and it's nothing like the states where it will make a huge difference.
the city and atmosphere and economic factor more than make up for any minor differences in quality. (in my book ofc)
Yeah, in research maybe based on number of papers/impact factor. But I'd always choose FU Berlin over TU for phd and after
Yeah, few of my friends went to do their PhD at TU Berlin and found it horrible.
now I'm curious, you mean the buildings are shit? Or the organisation is bad? both?
Offices. At least the physics buildings at the main campus had no security so there were homeless people roaming around at night.
Harmless, but, you know, not that great
Hi guys i have a question
i know that studienkolleg requires at least B1 but do they look into the mark of every modul?
I really like the FU Berlin and the HU Berlin has some cool buildings as well. For physics the TU Berlin would be the worst location I have seen.
Hannover was ugly as hell as well. As well as Kaiserslautern, but they tried to make up for it with all kinds of unique study programs
(Paderborn and Bochum are concrete monstrosities but ok)
Marburg was awful but with certain charm at least 😄
The old physics building? I mean it looks nice and charming but it's kinda falling apart
I thought you meant the uni/town in general
Na, just the uni.
And the physics institute specifically
Just saying: I would be happy to work in an office in the Bremen physics institute (although it wouldn't be my top favorite) but no way in hell would I go to TU Berlins Wignerbau. Totally ignoring the rankings 😉
guys, im planning to go to german for uni whilst playing soccer, i want to be a footballer. what major do you guys recommend. I like proggramming or physics, chemistry or biology. im 15
The major you choose has to do with what you want to do in the future, not with your age, wanting to go to Germany, or your wish to play football. I don't think anyone here can recommend you one based on the message above. 😅
this just sounds like a kid suddenly having an idea
but I must say i gave up becoming a footballer at 12
yepperoo
questions for students in germany
is it possible to get bäfog on top of a scholarship?
Studienkolleg difficulty question, I mean how hard is it in the first few months, after that perhaps you get to know the language?
the question that never was
Hahahaha
Are you from deutschland ?
not originally. I live in Germany now (a bit less than 4 years)
Kommt jemand hier aus Deutschland der in Dänemark studiert hat?
Ich frag' mich mal ob ich einen CEFR Zertifikat brauche oder was um in Skandinavien zu studieren auf die Sprache des jeweiligen Landes
sup guys
well I want to know if the 13rth year subjects have a direct relevance to the course one wants to opt for in one's bachelors in germany?
it'd be great if anyone with such an experience could respond
the strems chosen in 11th 12th and 13rth year were different entirely
Yeah. If you take a MINT subject for example, it opens up technical courses in that field
i had psychology and linguistics in my 13rth year but my interest is in finance
I don't think I qualify for bachelors finance even though I have studied it two years i.e. 11th and 12th
If im planning to study uni in Germany and im still in school, when should you start the application process?
Hello,
I am thinking of considering IU University of Applied sciences . I know you guys cuss about private university but at the end I need a decent corporate job . As an International student the courses are in English and I can learn German lang in 3 years course period. About fees , It is pretty cheap in compare and they might offer me scholarship which will be equal to any public uni.
MY QUESTION _
Is the university reliable or fishy?
Is the degree worth it from IU ? (BSC in Cyber Sec)
it's a pretty new online uni that's been spending a lot on advertisements and also just gaining traction in general. you can see reviews of it online. overall I doubt many people can tell you a lot about it
@tardy siren the state recognises their courses
I mean, depends if you wanna work in germany afterwards. Private unis are pretty trash, private remote unis like IU have pretty terrible reputation inside germany and there are way better options. But if you stay internationally. Eh, why not. Just check if the degree is recognized in your country.
In the worst case you get sent some reading material and take an exam for a lot of courses. Probably not good but not terrible
german subreddit said as long as you get internships and work on language its okay because its accredited and and saw alumni in big 4s too...and thats why its confusing me@bold stump
I do agree with nyandog on the matter
and my impression of germans, especially the middle aged ones are quite fixated with their ideals. and they trust public unis. they will raise an eyebrow. its also not a high ranking uni if not nameless internationally.
Ich vermute so...Du wolltest ja in Dänemark auf Dänisch studieren, aber warum stellst du so eine Frage hier? XD
If you work for big 4 then you can just pay your way to a degree (MBA/MSC). Sometimes this is given as an incentive. Similar to MBAs. So it's a time efficient way to get a degree. Which is, in my opinion, totally fine.
And of course, your presentation, your connections are probably at least as important as a degree.
But if Oxford/Cambridge is, let's say' S+ tier, and german public unis S tier, then these cheap-ish private online ones are D tier from my POV
Gute Frage, vielleicht probiere ich noch mal irgendwo anders 🙂
how does one make connections in germany?
university, meetings, work, so... nothing out of the ordinary i guess?
ah alright
Anyone here selected for the faad scholarship?
I need to get info for my studies in Germen Can anyone help
We won't be able to help unless you ask your question
So I will be doing my masters in computers what will the acceptance in there university
Computer science? Nobody knows, only the university you're applying to would know about that. As a rule of thumb, you're eligible to apply to any program you'd like as long as you meet the minimum requirements
Do you have a specific university in mind?
Technical University of Munich
When are you planning to apply?
this is my first year in collage after 2 year
Have you looked at the admission requirements?
Ya
Bachelors degree required , and IELTS required
oh my bad here i need to give Toefl
Both are eligible, as far as I know
ya but i can learn germen no problem for me i have learn french also it will be easy for me i think
hmm
at least i can remove language barrier
So this test i also valid for 2 year
Yes
Should you apply through Uni-assist?
whats that?
I'm a bit confused, have you finished your Bachelor's or not?
Noo i have just started its my 3year course
i have just joined my collage
So you are doing a three year course and you're in the first year of your studies, is that correct?
ya
Where are you form?
India
Start learning German as soon as possible, that's my only advice
Okay tthanks but what about Uni-assist?
Most universities require you to apply through a portal called Uni-assist... that's about it
Oh thats what i didn't know
I am also thinking of studying in Germany after i turn 18 and learn German
Recheck the application process for international students at your uni cause like the other person said, most unis require through uni assist. Not all
thats needed by most universities, but i know a few that dont go through them
University of Stuttgart for ex
i was but i had to wake up
Which websites u guys use in germany for finding flats?
are you looking for an apartment or a WG-Zimmer?
if the city to which you're moving is competitive, it pays off to have a German write (or at least proofread) your initial message.
Good to know...I am going to Tübingen for Uni with Study Abroad...and though we have access to Uni for housing...been thinking of getting a WG instead....i dont even know yet how the housing on campus really is....besides the generic videos they have online at Uni website
immoscout24, immowelt wg-gesucht, immonet are really good sites
I will have to check those other ones....all i have been looking at is WG-Gesucht as thats what others here have used when they went....
Hows the process for renting if anyone can shed some light? Like US its usually Credit checks, background checks, first and last or security deposit...
well, theres the security deposit as well as SCHUFA
for a WG, often they're just looking for a 'Nachmieter.' Never had to show credit reports or anything like that for a WG-room. If you rent an apartment, then you will need a Mieterselbstauskunft, Schufa-Auskunft, Income statements/Bürgschaft, etc.
Not necessarily, someone can vouch to pay rent in the event you cannot. They'll still want information about your livelihood but a credit check isn't always required.
And for a University Student from US? My Money legit comes from the University I attend...which is more than adequate here so based on what i see i will have no problems with money in Germany for living.
Like I said: if you're moving into a WG room, you will probably not have to show any income statements. If you explain to your prospective flat mates that you are on scholarship/stipendium, that will do most of the time.
Thanks! appreciate the responses
whos into IT or plans to study IT in germany
me
wait but what if you aren't... Will the block acc statements help?
idk, it really just depends on the WG I guess
you have to discuss it with them
😅 i mean there are (future) bachelor students who never worked haha... me...
okay...
dw, many people who have never worked and who don't work live in WGs 🙏
hello germans, I'll be flying to aachen in october
i want to ask appointments with psychiatrists and getting adhd prescriptions
should i email to some, months before reaching germany, or only call them when i reach the country?
since having an appointment here takes from a few weeks (private) to months (public)
(also are adhd meds covered in insurances generally?)

Hello guys i have a question i’m algerien i just got my visa for language course for 7months and then i want to study in Deutschland (university) do i need to come back to algeria for another visa or can i just extend my visa in deutschland after my language course thank youu
You can extend it in Germany itself. You'd have to get in touch with the "Ausländerbehörde" at least a couple months before your visa expires
I heard that you cannot transfer a language school visa directly to a student visa...
never tried it myself, so I don't know first hand, but I have heard that.
hi guys!! does anyone has taken or preparing for TestAs??
bc i am preparing it for applying to university
if yes, could you send me some sample???
@exotic barn we appreciate reports whenever you stumble across situations like these, since it's definitely not allowed
It was in a different server
Wait did my post get deleted?? I just wanted an answer wth
I feel like knowing whether people in a country I want to move to taking a major legal and moral issue less seriously than I would is quite important
hey guys, so i got accepted into a private university for B.Sc. Computer Science. I'm yet to hear from the public unis, but I'm thinking to accept the offer from this private uni. I even talked to the current students and alumni of the uni, and it seems pretty good, but i want to know if private unis are actually looked down upon, or whether I'll be able to get a good job or not after studying in a private uni.
feel free to move to #archived-sensitive-topics for those kinds of questions if it's important to your situation
it depends on which uni it is.
i.e. Jacobs University is well regarded. Others less so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
not for public unis
but tbh, getting a job in computer science will probably depend more on your skill and projects than on the school you went to
yeah that's what a lot of other people told me
if it seems like a good program with a good curriculum and is accredited (acknowledged by the state), then follow your heart
yup it's accredited, i checked that
but if you're just desperate for a spot and taking the first offer, maybe think it over again.
What's the name of the university?
i mean I'm pretty sure I'll get into the other public unis as well, but yeah idk, it'd be better to have an offer from them too
it's XU Exponential University of applied sciences
Just to make sure: this is not a Universität
cough wut
lmao tuition isn't a problem honestly
reading their wikipedia page: I have no idea why you would wish to go there over a normal uni. But again, like I said, you do you.
also they have an option of paying once you graduate and get a job
Yeah, pay 4 degree 😄
just cuz of the tuition fees or other factors too?
I mean it sounds bad to me. They didn't/couldn't(?) get accredited for Berlin, have barely been up and running for a few years, have exorbitant fees. I don't see the appeal.
What area do you wanna work in afterwards and do you wanna continue with a Msc or straight to some company?
it says on the website that they are state accredited tho, isn't that same as what you said?
i wanna work for probably 1-2 years then do my Master's
these are the things I like about the uni:
small class size
the course is in English
the location
focus on practical projects
the course content, although that's pretty much similar to the other unis
What field?
and they have a 4 days work week too
computer science
Yes, but what do you wanna work as. Website coding? Some Backend? Being a systems administrator?
i wanna specialize in AI/ ML, but that's for master's. After bachelor's I'd probably want to be a back-end developer , or if i can, maybe an AI engineer or smth similar
but most probably a back-end developer
So the AI/ML people I hire have PhDs / Msc in quantitative degrees. Maybe if you specialize in the DevOps niche as data engineer after the master this could lead to data engineer.
(But, you know, I am just one dude, don't listen to just one person when it comes to such things 😉 )
oh wow, thankss. Does the university they got their degree from matter a lot in the hiring process?
haha yup, but thanks a lot
Yes and no, the PhD/Postdoc should be done at a somewhat known university and the publications should be in recognized conferences / journals
yeah I'll do my master's from a public uni, but at the moment I don't really have plans on doing a PhD, but let's see
I would recommend to check if such a transition is possible
like, how many courses you would need to re-take and if it actually makes sense
Also, you said you wanted to study computer science, but as far as I can see, the university does not offer such a degree?
oh alright, I'll look that up, thankss
the degree is Coding and Software Engineering, my bad
i checked the course module, and the computer science courses in other unis have pretty much the same content
Just clarifying: this would likely not be enough to enroll for a computer science Msc at a Universität and you would probably need to take 1-2 semesters of extra courses for computer science Msc at a public university as a pre-requisite
is it cuz the ECTS aren't sufficient or something else?
It's not computer science, the core courses like functional programming, compilers, OS seem to be missing, and so on
oh alright, thanks a lot, I'll keep that in mind
but you would need to ask someone from a university for the exact modalities
I'm only hesitant to go to a public uni because the course will be in german and I'm afraid it'll be like really difficult, guess I'll have to work on my german more
ohkk
wait could they consider it rude if i ask them about this, like the credibility of their course n stuff
The uni where you'd apply for an Msc decides on if the Bsc fulfills their criteria. These can be different from uni to uni or state to state, that's why it's so tricky sometimes
the module handbook does look significantly different from what I've seen at public universities in 2 states in Germany. It would not be rude to ask them about their record for placing students in masters programs.
ofc...if the internet is not lying and they really have like 50 students....well, maybe the sample size is too small 😄
yeah, i would definetely ask them. And they want a lot of money, so if they think it rude to inquire about what you are buying, run away 😄
oh yeahh
haha yeah true
alrightt, thankss
yup it's around 150 now ig, but that's also something i like, but I'll definitely ask them about it
How is that allowed to protest or do parades at Sunday morning on the streets with people yelling on Megaphones and I am getting shit on for doing laundry?
they are, as we say, independent events.
Websites apart from daad to search for public german universities?
Studis online
Can you work on the student visa?
I don't even know if I will have time.....they are making us take 15 units and I am sure it's more work than my home Uni here in the US, especially since it's in German.
yes, but only part-time
Perfect, anything more would be crazy anyhow lol
depends whether the program is taught in German or English
yes but the uni itself would ask for that not uni-assist
uni-assist just checks your eligibility to study in Germany
write it in german. If you're concerned about quality, get a native to correct it (thoroughly) before sending off
Hi everyone
I’m from Nigeria hoping I’ll make it someday to study in germany, hope I’m welcomed
if you wanna become a citizen the fastest way is to marry your boyfriend
Ah shit I didn't mean Staatsbürgerschaft or sth like that, I meant like, officially living in Germany, havung everything that's required/useful and without the cops possibly knocking on my door to send me back to Greece for sth I didn't do
I believe if you're from the eu you're entitled to working and studying in germany without a visa
Yes, that's true
Me too..
All you need is an Anmeldung in the city you move to, your Greek insurance might even carry over. My fiance is Dutch and she didnt need to get German insurance. Being an EU citizen simplifies the process generally. I would just visit the website of the town you're gonna live in.
Hello ,
I live in Germany (NRW Region) and I'm doing a language program here. My german proficiency is B1 and I did Year 11 IGCSE and Came to Germany in the mid of Year 12 (AS level) and I have the predicted grades from school officially. I want to do Ausbuilding in Computer science or Networking or Computer Engineering. Could somebody please guide me so that ill get in track in life.. This help would mean a lot to me.. And have a blessed month...
Are u going to a language school? They can usually help out in this case too if u ask them
There are no hope tbh
thats why i wanna change T_T
Oh so u mean you want to stop going to the language school and start an Ausbildung?
As far as I know you need at least B2 level to start an Ausbildung if it's in German. But apart from that i think it's relatively easy to apply for an Ausbildung. Just find an open position and apply for it like a regular job. Just make sure you have your grades from school converted to the German system, though I'm not sure how that can be done (officially, like with an official doc)
B1 for the Ausbildung visa, might be separate requirements for the program.
@polar bear
Are these contacts bro?
contacts? do you meant contracts?
What is this document about bro?
Ok i have question regarding the anmeldung ans visa if someone could help me i would appreciate it a lot
I have been finding very difficult to find a place but I found a room for 1,5 month, if i make the anmeldung with this contract is it ok to present it to visa proceedings?
I will apply for the students applicant visa, will stay here until aug/23
this outlines the process of getting your foreign education recognized in Germany
Ohh im translating them
Unless you also provide the accommodation for those other months as well, then yeah. I know that they look at your accommodation and how many days you gonna stay at this particular apartment. I never done just tor 1.5 months only tho
I seeee
This has been difficult times hehe
I think i have a place for the rest of my stay, I think I'll go with both then and figure out how to manage this
This one until July and a second contract onwards
Wait marriage works in Germany for citizenship?
I hope they pass the new law allowing dual citizenship....I get German you get American citizenship and alles ist gut 😆
😅 you get a PR at first. citizenship comes after 2-3 years and you need a certain level of german and pass a test
Worth a shot lmao 🤣
afaik if your spouse is a german citizen you're eligible for citizenship by the time you're eligible for a permanent residence permit
Citizenship if your spouse is a German citizen comes after 3 years of legal residence, at least two years of which you need to have been married. Permanent residence permits can be fast-tracked to 3 years of residence if you're a spouse of a German citizen, so it's really just a matter of which one you want (i.e., if your German is good enough and you are fine with giving up your existing citizenship)
It is definitely the fastest way to get citizenship, though there are faster ways to get permanent residence.
is anyone planning for their masters next year to Germany?
and is anyone interested in revising some German with me for my exam?
Im going this year
Anyone planning on studying a bachelor in Austria? 🇦🇹
planning on studying a Spezialität
Was für eine Spezialität?
Humanmedizin
is there anything like studienkolleg but for masters program(actually im lacking credits in theoretical computer science ;-; )
Kann ich dir eine Privatnachricht senden?
They are voting soon on allowing dual citizenship...hopefully it passes
oh, you planning on doing medical residency in austria?
Idk about a Studienkolleg but most unis should be able to take you in (as long as the other requirements are met) and you'd just have to attend the class for a semester and pass the exam
"Auflagenfächer"
My Study Abroad application just came through. Tübingen for 1 year, then I am extending it for 2 years max....going to be great...try to find a way to stay and do a masters as well hopefully...or just stay and work.
Has anyone studied at the Studienkolleg of Paderborn University?
are university dorms good for international students?
Yes
how much do they cost on average?
Depends on the city
anwhere
berlin maybe?
anywhere with good universities
i haven't chosen yet
I think you are doing it in the wrong order. It's usually first get into uni, then find accommodation
Hey, anyone have info about GVH ticket?
Hey leute kann jemand mir helfen für WG oder Familienwohnung?
what exactly do you need help with??
@sweet creek This link might help. I have another one if that does not help. https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/03-Citizenship/german-citizenship-obtain/919576
i was asked for a job interview, they asked me to send 2-3 suggested dates/times for next week, what if im free the whole next week from like 11am+
do i just tell them that im free the whole next week from 11am+ or do i send specific 2-3 days for next week?
I would send 2-3 suggested date/times and also mention that you're free the whole week and that they're free to choose another time if it suits them better.
You guys are so helpful here. I really appreciate this community
Cheers
Shoutout to all folks who are working hard to set their foot in Germany/ Austria!
Don't forget switzerland
@solid gazelle
in uni assist should i enter Geburtsort a specific address or just a general location
City and country are usually enough.
they are usually asking about the city with 'Geburtsort'
i graduated in USA, can i just send my original diploma or should i translate it?
you can send the original if it is in english or german.
Otherwise you need a translation
okok
Hi guys, can you send me your Motivation letter that you wrote while applying for study visa at the German embassy? You could also send me some such sample letters and tips. I need some help writing my motivation letter.
I need an advice im not sure if I said something wrong...
I'm applying for an Ausbildung and I finally got a response back telling me they are inviting me next week for us to get to know each other first.
In the next mail I thanked them for the invitation to a "job interview" and then they answered that I should look at it less as a job interview and more as getting to know each other, they also added "when possible relaxed"
perhaps they're telling you to bring out your true self and not act like what you're not
Hmm
That's an interesting thing to say on the first few mails
But I see what u mean
When I read it at first I thought they meant that I'm more of a 2nd option and that we will only get to know each other shortly in order to see if they even wanna interview me for the ausbildung
you shouldn't think that way.
and always bring your best attitude
Do I even bring something with me then? Lol
Like some documents or stuff like that
I mean school documents
sounds like the typical 21st century 'we're not a business we're a family' spiel. Don't take it to heart. But I'd watch out for them trying to shaft you when it comes to pay 😄
Ye its a smaller company, less than 10 ppl working if I saw correctly
What do I even respond to that mail tho?
Like I srsly have no idea
idk I would just say 'alles klar. Ich freue mich sehr darauf, euch/Sie kennenzulernen'
I need your advice i just got my visa for course language for 6 months (till November),i want to demand a resident permit but i wanted to know if they will accept it as my visa is valable for the entire 6 months??
Thanks guys
Guten Tag,
I'm a third year university student here in Morocco, and would like to apply to a master s program in Germany.
After searching tirelessly I couldn't find a mean to convert from Moroccan grading system to the minimum grade requirements that a German university asks for.
Can anyone offer some help?
Vielen Dank im Voraus.
hast du das schon mal versucht?
wenn du kein Bock hast, das selber zu berechnen, gibt's auf der Webseite ein Online-Form dafür
by foreign grading scale and grades acheived abroad, do they mean here in my home country?
yes
N-values are based on the moroccan system, the z value is the german equivalent
Okay Thank you very much
what do germans think of their history
is there anyone here studies German in Goethe institut in Germany
i want to study there and i want to know how it is going for 17 years old programs ( Kurse fur Jugendliche ) or even in general
what do u think
ich lebe in der türkei und kenne mich mit der deutschen geschichte nicht aus
with a student visa in Germany can you travel to other eu countries?
im currently in the process of finding an Ausbildung but how do i know where the school is? i found one school but im not sure if its the right one, is there a site that has like a list of the schools or something like that?
Ausbildung for a job in germany?
no im searching for Ausbildung- apprenticeship
i have an interview this week but im scared if they ask me if i have informed myself to what school i would go n stuff like that
the company choose the school for you
oh okay
so i dont have to be in contact with the school or anything of that sort before finding the internship first?
The company chooses. If you're unsure ask them
ouki thx!
my company told me about my school on my first working day. Dont get scared if they don't tell you immediately.
just look on the Berufsschule website it'll have a list of programs
I have been looking at this uni and it's great but I don't understand what they want
https://www.uni-ulm.de/en/study/application-and-enrolment/human-medicine-and-dentistry-state-examination/
this^^
can someone help me?
hey how can I join a study room over here?
GPA(if u r non-EU national),GPA and TMS(if u r EU national)
idk if non-EU can appear for TMS
So whats the minimum GPA
@urban kettlefor which course u r applying for?
the human medicine one
btw I have 4.0 gpa

so what else do I need
sorry for asking a lot of questions
ask university whether non-EU nationals have to appear for TMS?
okay I'll email them
@urban kettleu r from states?
India
the nicest people fr

@urban kettlei would suggest you to look for some other courses too
as this one is quite competitive
but I want to study human medicine nothing else
it is available in other unis?
ofc I just didn't look for other unis
having some backup universities will be good ig
yeah I'll look for some more
but it's okay for now I have 2 years till I go to uni
same
i will be going after 3 yrs
@urban kettleu have checked the equivalence of ur undergrad degree?

what does that even mean
u can only take admission if ur undergrad degree fulfils some basic prerequisites according to the university and is recognized by anabin database
hmm idk
I'll check
for that
Uni Heidelberg is one of the best for medicine
ohh I'll check it out too
oooh
Hello fellows so like this radio tax thing just arrived and I’m paying 02-06 period. ALTHOUGH I REGISTERED MY APARTMENT ON THE 03 LIKE WTF, whatever, the matter at hand is that I’m leaving my accommodation on the 07, will I have to pay an other 6 months worth of tax cuz like I didn’t see any options to pay a single month
No, non-EU cant take TMS
And you should inform yourself, if your school leaving certificate is recognized by germany or not. If not, then you'll habe to do studienkolleg or write the equivalent of abitur for internationals
@exotic barn thank you

hey, i went to an ausbildung interview, we made another appointment through mail and they told me to think about the azubi salary since they are a smaller company that doesnt have a fixated salary for azubis
i honestly have no idea for how much to ask
since in all branches of ausbildung the salary can wage so much from company to company
some get paid 500€ and some 1000€
@cloud anchor don't get ripped off. check websites to see the average wage for YOUR specific position
hello,
im interested in getting my higher education done in germany.. wanted to know best engineering universities out there
the local Kammer regulates the salaries for the Ausbildung, not the company. It's a fixed salary not hourly.
why can't i join voice chats
@exotic barn, please read the Roles section in #getting-started for info on how to join VC and more.
Even when I worked as a farmer apprentice I made more than 500€ a month, I can imagine such a low rate would only apply to youths maybe 5 years ago
500€ monthly might make sense, depends on how many hours you work weekl
an Ausbilding is full time so that's way too low
Is cottbus a good city to study? I googled it a bit and it seems like theres a lot of racism around. Is it true?
But their study program is great so im in a bind
East german is known to be.. well... not very welcoming towards Ausländer
Unless you look european. If yes, then it won't really matter to you that much 😂
Is there someone from hamburg in here? Living in hamburg i mean!
I want to know about transport tariffs? The best one the cheapest lol!
Kein Problem

Look up the TU9. They're the top 9 technical unis in Germany
But do note that it's pretty demanding and the dropout rate is high
thanks a lot !
Especially rwth…so I have heard
Yep
The first semester physics classes have a fail rate of over 80% almost each time
Wow! That's high...but better early than later
Hey i just want to ask what is the minimum gpa in 12th grade required for cse related undergraduate programs
I've googled it a bit
And it varies a lot in different sites
I am lost at this point
It's more like 30 % in the first semester, 40 % if it goes bad and 60 % in extreme cases. And most of the time it's students who imagined something completely different. I tutored many first semester courses and never had more than 1-2 students fail an exam.
Hi guys, I am a student in Germany and I am flying back to my country tomorrow for two weeks. Do you think they will make a problem out of it at the airport when I come back?
I have a residence permit
There shouldn't be any problems at either airport as long as you follow the covid guidelines
Ok thank you very much
Does anyone here have any experience with working after finishing studies in Germany?
I am about to go through that process and I have some questions.
It's best if you ask the questions directly. Someone that can answer them won't have to ask then
What happens if the degree is still not processed by the university administration or the foreigner's office by the time the work contract begins?
The foreigner's office people told me that I can still work for 3 months just on account of my student visa, but I am not sure how the employer would take this.
Hey guys, I have a friend who is looking for bachelors in Medical (any fine) in Germany for summer in-take; can anyone DM me privately, I will be really thankful
What type of course are you applying for in Germany?
Also, what is the format of CV's in Germany. Can someone share their CV ( after removing the important details obviously) so I can understand it's format?
I don't have a working example to share, but just google "Lebenslauf" (CV) and you should be able to find a few examples to give you a basic idea.
Hello guys if I get a SSN and work for a few months as an exchange student do I get access to the benefits even after my residence permit (student visa) is over and I have to go back to my country?
the three that pop to mind are Humboldt, TU Berlin, and FU Berlin
I'm heading to Augsburg on a city trip in July. Wanted to go off the beaten path a bit. Is anyone from there? We'll also be visiting Ulm, probably.
I live next to Ulm
If you have any pointers to avoid tourist traps, always glad to hear
Question to those who moved in germany how did you guys plan it ? like whats the first thing you need to ready first before moving aside visa stuff
visa stuff is the most difficult/important...other than that, you probably want to find a place to live.
do ppl need a visa before they look for a job online ? german
or they look for one online first before dealing with visa ?
I have no idea...it depends on what type of visa you're applying for.
if you're applying for a visa based on work, then I would think you need to have the job first
it is notoriously difficult, however, to find a job in germany online before living there.
if as citizen ?
applying for citizenship is not the same as applying for a visa...I don't think anyway. But this is out of my realm of knowledge tbh
This would probably be a better place to ask
Has anyone had experience with the AP German Language and Culture exam? Would it be worth taking?
Only 18% got a 5
this is correct. one can apply for a visa and then citizenship afterwards or I think one can also just apply directly for citizenship (if their parents are citizens or something)
Not true - in Germany there is a „Fachkräftemangel“ and as a result Germany needs something like 300k immigrants a year. If someone works in a profession that is in demand (like IT), they can find a job before moving there. I‘ve personally received three offers from companies in Germany while living in the US as a software developer. @crisp tide
yeah, if
I would say Computer Science careers notoriously break this pattern, and it's important to note that it's also one of the rare fields where German language skill expectations are comparatively lax. I applied as a biologist to 10+ jobs from the states and didn't get a single positive write back despite being (over)qualified. Since living here I've had multiple job offers without even applying 🤷 verrry field dependent 😛
lot of companies just don't want to deal with sponsoring someone who isn't even in the country yet, especially if they need an accompanying work permit
if I may ask, what‘s your background? (how long have you been learning German, how did you learn, which region are you living in now, etc)
I've lived in Germany for almost 4 years now, learned most of the German I know living here (had courses in college beforehand, but they didn't help when it came to understanding natives or speaking fluently myself), I've lived in both Hessen and Bremen/Niedersachsen area. Education is post-graduate degree in biology, currently working on a second degree in Informatik.
I received job offers from two different supervisors while writing my thesis. Didn't take them because I already knew I didn't want to go in that direction.
