?
that's general prices for someone who is not earning money
depending on location
It only took me about a month to get accepted into a Studentenwohnheim
@surreal ermine which city
in Munich I'm still waiting and it's my 2nd semester
still have one semester to go
Bochum haha
oh 😅
That explains it doesn't it
Isn't Munich hella expensive
it is super expensive and hard to find a place
the Studentenwerk is your only hope here
But it's kinda worth it
Is it possible to take Investigative Journalism in University in Germany?
I already tried to look for it on the internet many times but it's always inconclusive
Wait why am I orange
When you take >Getrole Level A you become orange
#botchannel bitte
Does it work now?
Oh
Ohhh
:D
Okay now that this is out of the way
I'm considering going for engineering but I'm afraid it'll be too much of a mental strain on me so I'll take Investigative Journalism as well but idk if I can do that only in a training school
I'd like to take it in University as well for the sake of practicality, besides idek if with Abitur I can attend a training school
There's some difference between journalism and engineering, so you might wanna make up your mind 😄
What do you mean
oh yea
true
totally opposite
hehe
shoot
Same I believe
I mean whenever you wanna change uni
you have to get accepted
and after you enroll, you show your new uni the credits you already have
Are double majors common in Germany?
don't sleep then
The difficulty may depend on how good the specific uni does their double majors... You might want to look into that if you are going to do it.
no
i mean during studying
without getting any money
good luck pulling perfect grades with no sleep
then
going to work, ending your shift and going home isn't like taking care of several courses
once you're home after work, that's it. done. sleep.
yeah good luck with that
In order for you to achieve your full potential, it'd be a better idea to focus on one major. it's for your own good.
Even one major is hard. 😦
at least on my uni, there are several double-Bachelors for social sciences - dunno if that helps you
@exotic barn you might be able to pull it off eventually after some hard work and sleepless nights. but no matter what, your results won't be as good.
see if you can even survive one semester
My uni doesn't even allow double majors because it's not the best way, in their opinion, to do a degree.
Which isn't really a scientific example, but it's something?
That's up to you how your day would look like xD
you decide your own schedule
There are a lot of other options though for adding stuff to degrees, depending on the uni.
also don't forget that you will have double the courses
and there will be conflicting schedules
Like do German unis have diplomas and stuff too?
so you have to decide for one or the other
tbh the worst part will be that all the courses will conflict
and you will never be able to visit all of them
I think part of deciding your studies ends up being that you have to learn to make sacrifices. No matter how much you want to study, you have to be selective.
And, also, most similar degrees will lead to the same place in the end.
some stuff can technically work tho if they are closely related
if you do math/physics major for example, a lot of the maths stuff overlap
so you can save a bit of time
Maths/other can work pretty often.
at least in bachelor
at least here it is this way: you'll spend about 20-25 hours/week actually attending lectures and then the university expects you to do twice that amount at home in excercises or studying (depending on you and your degree, that is variable). So just going by that, you'll have a pretty busy week.
our uni expects us to do 30 credit points per semester and they estimate 30 hours spent per credit point
so you are expected to spend 900 hours each semester on uni alone
you have about 150 days per semester, let's say that
so you are already expected to spent 25% of all your time on uni
not calculating in travelling, food, sleeping or maybe a life
if you do two majors, you gonna need to do 60 credit points per semester
37,5 days out of the 150 as Selbststudium
so you already load up 50% of your whole life for uni alone
not withstanding travelling, food, sleeping or maybe a life
and also non-expected stuff like illness
in Israel we have some triple majors but it's rare
and really well put together
usually sciences
@compact slate triple ? got a link for that ? 😮
you are crazy
@brisk lotus Not sure if there's one in English
but go for it if you like
@exotic barn but not 100% of the 50% is what you like doing
specially in bachelor programs
many extras
then go for a triple
What? seriously
what field do you want to study in?
Go for a triple.
and?
there's a major in germany called technische informatik
that combines both
what people like to do
is finishing a bachelor in one first
and doing master's and bachelor's of the other major afterwards
and you don't know what you like to do yet
@brisk lotus Can't find in English
but nevertheless double majors are very common here
most are CS + Science(Bio, Phys, Chem)
tbh, i am not sure how the regulations for foreigners for doing double majors are
if they are even any
but you will see quickly if it's working out for you
How common is it for foreigners to study for B.A in germany?
Like in Chemistry, you can't do a B.A., only a B.Sc.
there are a lot of people from other countries at every uni
Computer Science for example
Can you do a B.A. in Chemistry in other countries?
Like it's less a problem for me because I have a citizenship
@compact slate CS isn't B.A. ?
it's only in name here too
we just say first/second degree
^ yeah
yeah
economics apparently can choose between getting B.A and B.Sc
not sure how it works there 🤔
my question was how common is it for foreigners to do their Bachelor in germany
ah, i guess one is more theoretical/for doing research than the other
there are a lot of people from other countries doing their Bachelors here, Masters is more common i'd say, but still
@compact slate I'm doing my Bachelor in Germany
Just like thousands around the world
I still need to see how I convert my high school diploma to Abi like thing
@brisk lotus in what?
CS
drum roll
Your average can be up to 100
but it means nothing
in Germany it gets converted like 1.0 is the best
do you know what you wanna study in germany if at all?
What's your Bagrut's average ?
your grades don't really matter to much for sciences
92.5~
except biology and some weird chemistry stuff
That's enough to study anything in Germany, except for Medicine
bonuses not included
bonuses aren't included when converting to Abitur
maybe 🤔
maybe 🤔
🤔
the averages for getting accepted are different in each uni and field, but if 92.5 is a percentage, you should be fine
92.5 is the avg of all the classes I took
your german certificate will be more important at this point then^^
yea just get the language certificate and you're good to go
no need for Studienkolleg either
also: headpats for being a good student
😃
have a look at the link in the pinned messages in this server
oh, and saving up about 9k euro
the last one especially
You can ask anything here, I'm familiar a bit with the whole Israeli/German conversion.
Not sure why I know it, but I do 😛
But can anyone explain the channel name??
🎉
i only know Brazilian/German conversion - it's about 7 Brasilians to make 1 German
lmao
@alpine hollow Munich is expensive as hell tho
maybe if you suddenly earn a loooot of money 🤔
Israelis are rich!
oh
nope
I guess the german citizenship gonna save a lot of trouble for me though
being in the holy land, you'd think god would've left some money
worth looking it up if you are jewish
my uni basically handed out scholarships for any jewish student for a few semesters
@silent pilot God has left us
yea the German citizenship eliminates the requirement for 9K
especially then i think
cool
I'm gonna milk that citizenship
I mean you'll still need the money, but don't have to show proof and have a blocked account
so i guess other unis might have similar scholarships
How do they check that you're really Jewish? 🤔
well a friend of mine has "race: jew" in his passport
Lol.
!
he's originally from russia
and apparently being jewish is a race in some parts of russia
🤔
Die Höhe der Förderung beträgt maximal 597 € pro Monat (berechnet nach BAföG). Zusätzlich erhalten Stipendiaten 300 € Studienkostenpauschale pro Monat unabhängig vom Einkommen der Eltern.```
well
there's ethnic jew and religious jew
oh, right, yeah
not sure how it is for the jewish scholarships
but normally they expect you to do some kind of socialization from time to time
there are also scholarships for international students
if they grant you a scholarship
like going to meet sponsors and going to some events
idk
"socialization" 😱
like "hey, this guy is oded, he's really good at his studies, and he is jewish, talk to him"
idk i am pulling stuff out of my ass since i don't know people with that scholarship
lol
I find it funny how no german has ever pronounced my name correctly even though it really isn't that hard
even my good friend calls me Odet
I'd be great at that. "Ah yes mr Jew man, I for one love Jewish Jesus. And we light the candles for every Hanukkah. No weird meat for me. Mm yeah. Keep giving me free money ok?"
@compact slate Odet is female, isn't it ?
you have my respect as a Jew man
do you do a soft sound at the end of "Oded"?
How do I become a jew?
AUSLAUTVERHÄRTUNG
@south oriole no.
hey... Od!
lol
short e
🤣
Is it okay if we call you Rosie?
only if you pat my head
nods happily
I honestly never mention I'm jewish on the internet
unless someone explicitly asks me
atheist
because you can never prove somehting 100%
because our tools are biased
math is axiomatic
it's most likely to be true
anyway it's off topic
My question was why the term agnostic is stupid
the term itself isn't using it to describe one's religious state
I'll leave you with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzSMC5rWvos
Don't miss new Big Think videos! Subscribe by clicking here: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims the title "scientist" above all o...
Neil deGrasse is a smart man.
sometimes
He has his moments..
I kinda agree
but when people ask they expect an answer
not a philosophical discussion
Did you get an answer why Agnostic isn't stupid as you claimed ?
no, it's just saying "I don't know"
It's saying, we don't have proof and I welcome any proof whether supports the idea of god or is against it.
But I don't go around tell people why god doesn't exist.
I have no problem with that
An Atheist will argue and tell you why there's no god
epoché is quite an important concept, especially in daily life
I do think so too, but I don't think there is one so I just say I'm an atheist
you can be agnostic atheist and agnostic theist
both are agnostics
but you lean towards a certain end
But I don't believe if there isn't a god just as much as I don't know if there is. that's what Agnostic is.
a religious guy believes in the existence of god, an atheist believes the opposite.
I don't believe, I like to deal with actual proofs.
We don't have proofs of either.
can you prove then that the chair you sit on exists? can you prove your existence is real? can you prove I'm not a robot?
I mean I know how absurd these questions are but at the end of the day you simply can't
Yes I can. and I don't believe in a chair, I KNOW it's there. my conscious is aware of it and therefore it exists.
not the same with believing. you're not aware of it and you don't know it
You BELIEVE in it. believe that it does/doesn't exist.
so Atheists don't know that god doesn't exists. they think so. they believe so.
yeah
I, on the other hand, am waiting for proof to support either of the claims. and that is being Agnostic.
I mean at the end of the day it's basically lack of decisiveness in a way
My buttcheeks believe in chairs, it doesn't matter if the rest of me does
That's all I wanted to say
lol
thanks for your attention
bitte
There's not really a point in arguing something that is primarily just a preference of terminology, lol.
@solemn bay it's not only a preference of terminology.

In this case, it is. But if you want to continue to discuss it, let's not do so here.
@solemn bay sorry, didn't notice the Moderator role. I'll stop now 🙂
Is the DACH we're living under even real
Good question
lol
I actually try to make the thereX compunds a thing again
progress as of yet: not working
You can easily turn it into a trend here xD
I mean it's 100% cooler
true
@exotic barn hi can you explain the name of this channel?
@exotic barn what does roof mean?
I have mentions off for this channel :^)
I think the dach has to do with german speaking countries
education, life, work or culture of DACH countries. 🇩🇪 🇦🇹 🇨🇭
may be wrong tho
cant be
You're correct
Do you get it now hecke?
ich verstehe nicht
me neither tbh
Yeah, still don’t know what he roof is
we should make a channel for the guys who're living without a roof
we're really creating a division in this community
Ich habe soeben online einen Termin beim Zahnarzt abgesagt, das mit der Digitalisierung nimmt wirklich Ausmaße an... 😀
is this the place to ask about studying in germany?
yes
yeah boy
take your time
i am back~
damn my intuition is good when it comes to time
My main question was about student life if I plan to study a bachelars at a german university
I understand the style of learning is more independant, but how is life there?
also, being an EU citizen should make things go smoothly right?
yes it should
in regard to your former question, could you elaborate on what exactly you want to know?
"how is life there" is a bit broad
stuff like
do colleges typically have sports clubs there? party life? Is social interaction easy etc.
that 1. depends a lot on the uni
- is standard to varying degrees
absolutely everywhere
the best part about uni I'd say is that if there isnt anything for you, you're encouraged to make spmething yourself
the city where its situated I'd say is very much a factor too
unis generally offer something
most unis should have some cooperation with sports stuff
oh that's nice
choir, sports, w/e
when it comes to which university specifically
it doesnt depend on the uni, really
for TUM
you typically get accepted anyway when you fulfil the requirements
typically
munich prices are probably the highest in germany
so if you don't have money... i wouldn't advise going there
yeah, that's why I thought
It might be smarter to go elsewhere
even if I could afford it
for munich stuff you can ask @brisk lotus when she is here
every uni can offer something good
have a look around
you're not applying for summer 2018 im guessin?
then you're got plenty of time to change your mind
plenty darlin lmao
and I promise you will
with my current german I'd be in a bad situation tbh
not at the moment
even 10 hours a week, saving about 75%
I have volleyball trainings every day
you'll be in a good position once you need to move
so uh, that would be impossible for me
I understand hun
I could try making some money programming, but I think I want to get more involved in the open-source community
than develop apps and selling them in the future
ye
@wary pivot did you have any questions regarding Munich ?
@alpine hollow I'm gonna change your whole perspective on life
are you ready ?
ARE YOU READY ?
I'm a he.
Anyone know what sorta place would have an Ethernet adapter?
Ah true xD I'm just silly and jetlagged, pardon
what are you gonna do effi 😱
not really, since I decided Im probablly not going there
I wanted Not Amazon for instant gratification
@wary pivot getting accepted into TUM for CS degree isn't impossible. and true, the apartment prices in Munich are the highest compared to other cities in Germany.
I'm somewhat good at CS for my age, so acceptance wouldnt be that hard
if it wasn't for the limit on international students

effi 😱
@wary pivot as an international student you'll have to send your application to TUM, if it's good enough you pass the first step. the second step is an interview, once you pass that you're in.
how could you do that to me 😱
no I mean
they don't take as much international students afaik
there's a limit since the focus is on educating their citizens
I believe that's true across the country, but CS is usually Zulassungsfrei
which means you're guaranteed a place
I study CS in Munich and getting in wasn't a problem, but surviving it is. 😅
bachelors
lol
Haven't had to get one yet so I wasn't sure how common they'd be /late
I 've heard that some universities offer you like a 1 year time for you to learn german etc
is that right?
or is it a rumor
That is right, but don't ask me for details lol
Would anybody know which unis offer that?
The university I'm looking to go to offers something like this
I can assume quite a few offer it but you'll have to look up on each university's site to see if they do
I think the universities will ask you to apply normally but then they let you have 2/3 semesters for learning German before becoming a proper degree student
If that makes sense
Yep, that's how it works in several places. However you often have to know at least basic German to be able to apply. Just check their websites for details, I personally only know about Uni Marburg who offers it (here you should have at least A2) and some who don't offer this like the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt you have to be at least B1 to be able to apply) or the Justus Liebig Universität Gießen (where you can apply with B2 but have to be at least C1 when you enroll). So yea it varies from uni to uni
I know Heidelberg offers that as well
among many others
and it's always possible to learn through a language school
which is what I did
it depends on how much you already know
The university I'm looking at requires B2 and I'll be maybe A2 by the time I join so I think I'll be agood from there heh
@undone gyro will you still have to pass testdaf/dsh ?
I think it's called ÖSD the one I have to do
in Austria ?
Ye
Yo if its Austria please make sure that they don't require C1 instead.
Ye ty arrem I read it somewhere on the website but I don't remember where
@south oriole I just joined a few days ago so
You reminded me to check again xd
I need to get to C1 in about 3 years
that sounds very doable
ye
I also have a friend who's somewhere between
b2 and c1 imo
Actually he's definitly c1, since he got a certificate and all
C1 in years should be nice and easy 👍🏽
having 2 C1 languages will be nice
or maybe 3? Im not sure what level my slovak is
I live here but I make a lot of types in it, even after 10 years
But I did improve, so maybe I could be a c1 in it as well
From what I know, a lot of unis offer german courses but I thought that you apply for your program after the courses, not that they will hold a place for you. That’s why I’m asking about unis that actually wait till you finish the course.
@exotic barn depends on the degree you're after
for Medicine for example, no one can guarantee you a place
How can I check the equivalence of my Highschool diploma? Here I'm able to officially work in a hospital with it but I wanna know if that's possible in Germany
I think this is for university applications?
I meant working with the Highschool diploma that I already have
most works require vocational training or some kind tho
Had 2 years of internship if that counts?
could help
Neat!
@ocean basalt http://anabin.kmk.org/anabin.html
oh with the highschool diploma
that database is more for higher education degrees and people who want to use their degrees to work in Germany
to get it certified and accredited
might be useful for you
@brisk lotus I'm sorry I totally missed your text Effi!
I'll take a look at it tomorrow
What's a general admission to a preparatory course?
You'll need to provide more details/context. But it's probably a course that teaches you the German/math/physics/chemistry that you need for uni if you don't know it or didn't take it in highschool.
What are my options if there is no direct conversion between my country's highschool leavers exams and the Abitur. I'm confident I have way more than the required level of proficiency for my chosen subject, not to mention those of the first two semesters, but the problem lies in being able to prove that to the universities I wish to apply to.
Which country are you from?
England
with Lithuanian citizenship, none of the countrys current politics should affect me
should
I've taken 1 A-level already, and will be taking two more in four months. Results wont be available to anybody including me until around mid/late August which makes applying for the winter semester a pain
I've got predicted grades and references from my teachers but somehow I doubt it'll be enough if its not official
A levels should be okay. I dont know when you have to apply for for Germany but Austria I can apply after results day so I think the same goes for you? If it doesn't work like that then you can always email the admissions office of the universities you're interested in and tell them about your situation and ask for information. You should be alright and your Lithuanian citizenship since Lithuania is in the eu
thank you dearly, its incredibly reassuring to hear this from someone else
It's np :3
The Ausländerbehörde still hasnt answered
I've gotten the responses I need from the university, though, and I think I'll be pretty safe now.
My question is, does anybody know how long they typically take to respond?
no idea, depends on the city and priorities
I'm confident I have way more than the required level of proficiency for my chosen subject
If it's memeing or bullying 0x1, I'd give you a PhD straight away. ❤
can I put you down as a reference
I'll even write you a letter.
Thanks, Berzi. I'll make sure to use this when I apply for jobs in the future.
glad to be of help
Berzi is it fine if I print this out without hiding your name and photo?
go ahead, I have no shame whatsoever
That’s the spirit
Hey, I want to study in germany after I get my bachelor, meaning I want to complete my masters there, when should I start preparing?
prepare for what?
you know language certificate, uni acceptances, visa, and stuff
What's your level right now?
language - as soon as possible
uni - depends on the uni
visa - depends on your country
I'd say A1
Usually you need C1 for master degree. But there are english master programs.
You can reach C1 in 1,5 years.
If you're dedicated enough.
is that the fastest or the average?
Was sind diese A1 , B1, C1 , A2 etc ?
that's pretty fast
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, abbreviated in English as CEFR or CEF or CEFRL (compared to the German abbreviations GeR or GeRS, the French abbreviation CECRL, the Italian QCER, or the Sp...
I did C1 in 15 months but it's 4 hours of German every day.
damn, I have studies to keep up with..
how do you feel language in all those holes you have in your schedual
fill
you just have to do it
Well I was in high school and I had a lot of time.
oh
so like grades in school
school - German - sleep
but they are about how much you know German ?
We just have no real life
were you studying alone? or by tutoring?
@exotic barn A1 - A2 - B1 - B2 - C1 with order
I learned with a native for 5 months every second day. Then I had another native teacher (once in a week) but at that moment I was learning kinda alone already. Then I spent a month in Germany what tbh didn't help me a lot. In October- December I was preparing for my exam with a native twice in a week.
when you learned alone, what res did you use?
In #resources there is a link to my Google drive and you can find there all the books I used.
I watched a lot of tv shows in German without subtitles. That really helped me. My first series was Avatar. I chose it because I'd watched it like 5 times already and I knew the plot of every episode. Then I just rewatched series and movies.
yes
Avatar is 👌
((the series, not the movie))
avatar the cartoon/anime ?
yes
that day I watched Tarzan 2 and
....
Robin Hood
YES
I remembered
very nice cartoons
I also read a lot. I prefer magazines because there are ones made specially for learners. They have vocab lists and topics are usually the same as in the exams.
I found a good mini series on DW channel, called nicos weg
I understood some parts
it was fun
Just do everything you need to do. If you want to achieve C1 in this short period of time you must work. Sleep less, walk faster, eat faster, don't go out, don't have fun, become a nerd.
I looked up in the daad site, they only require B2, some only b1
For master?
yes
It can't be true.
Freuden
is that the correct plural of friends ?
Maybe it's for a summer language school or for an exchange semester.
You need C1 even for bachelor.
if it's english then the universities that teach in german does not clarify language reqs
I can't find lang reqs in their daad page
just academic reqs
For master it's always C1 German afaik.
If I was to get accepted in an english course
I wouldn't need the C1 right? just B1 for the visa
Ich mag ihr 😃
is that correct?
I don't think you need a level for visa 🤔
But you're right. If you're applying for an English course you don't need C1.
@exotic barn #questions
I do, I need a certificate of atleast B1
I'm not from the EU
kinox.to - movies and tv shows
serienstream.to - tv shows
no they don't
You need VPN to open these pages
Luna knows me 🕵
Now my motivation is too meet my dear discord friends irl.
💞
I never knew naruto in german would be this epic
What kind of magazines? @exotic barn
I read Vitamin D
Werd mal ausprobieren 👌
@true citrus at least B1 to get your visa ?
not really
where did you read that
you'll need the letter of admission
@exotic barn when are we going to meet ❤
2139
@sick imp http://www.21-39.com/ ? 😄
@brisk lotus along with the letter of admission
@true citrus if you've got your letter of admission that means you've passed the language test
you don't need to provide it

I don't understand French ?
it's in french, but if you use google you'll see the reqs
I don't have to google it
you don't have to provide B1 in Germany
I, alongside many many others have done it
You get a maximum of two years visa to learn the language
"preparing for uni" is the visa
after that they expect you to have a letter of admission
otherwise you're out
they don't need any language certificate
either a confirmation from a language school or uni, stating that you're studying
why would they care about your level of German ?
the visa is to allow you to do whatever you want, as long as you have proof that you're going to do it
what if it's different from one country to another? like I said, I'm not from the EU
me neither
I probably need to check with the embassy
where are you from ?
Morocco
the only difference is the preparation you might have to do
like Studienkolleg
in which case you show that you're attending Studienkolleg and learning the language
then after you're done, you show that you're enrolled at the uni
since you are enrolled it directly means you're above B1
So I still have to be B1, and since uni acceptance is a req for visa, doesn't that make the language an "indirect" req?
The language is a requirement to get into uni
It's not a requirement for the visa
that's all you need to know 🙂
So if you get into an English course at the uni, you can still get your visa even if you don't have B1 in German.
english course seems best, even if I do get a b1 or even B2, german for business and studies would still be hard
C1 should be enough I believe
dunno it's up to you
C1 wasn't enough for me xD
But I might be too stupid
what is your field?
computer science
nice, you said you weren't from the EU, what country did you come from? where the procedures of visa fast?
I did everything after entering Germany so it may not be the same for you
everything? what do you mean?
I applied here for my visa so it's not the same for you I believe
you'd have to do it in your home country
ok
I applied here for my visa so it's not the same for you I believe
How? Dont you need a visa in the first place to get in?
@south oriole It depends on your passport
Usually true, you need to apply for a visa before getting in
Other countries have a tourist visa, which means they can enter Germany and stay for up to 3 months
during these 3 months I applied for my visa after getting accommodation,certificates,etc..
Which universities count as good for tech(cs and sciences)?
I heard about Aachen, TU Berlin and TU Munich
Munich is out of the question though, it's too expensive for me to live in
TUM is number 1
Not much of a big difference in Germany though
Unlike in Israel I believe
Difference in what? in quality?
As I said, there isn't much difference
Here you can check rankings based on different aspects
It can be useful, but shouldn't change your mind as to where you want to study
I don't know where I want to tbh
I don't know where is good
I always had Berlin in mind, because oh well, it's what you hear about the most
Erlangen is where I am and it's pretty good as well
but I guess Berlin, Munich are the ones you hear from the most
@chilly narwhal doesn't the uni there belong to Erlangen and Nuernberg ?
But I think the CS faculty is in Erlangen
Yes it does, I do live in Nuremberg, but the Technische Fakultät is completely located in Erlangen
it is also not too expensive to live in
what I heard is about 300€ per month for a room in a flat
Not sure how you say Wohngemeinschaft in English
What have you heard about TU Berlin and RWTH Aachen?
everywhere is good
base it more around where you want to live
than a certain uni
like if you wanna study in hamburg
What does it matter where do you live?
the "quality" of the uni is not very important
so it's a more efficient choice to look for the city where you want to live
I don't know actually. I don't have any preference when it comes to accomodation
I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to cities in Germany
Yeah but like, what should I find out? other than living expenses I don't see any major factor
what do you do in your free time?
do you want to live in the country
with more nature
do you want a city where you can party all day
do you want to live where you can travel a lot
programming, gamedev, gaming I guess
hm
do you wanna go mountain climbing
do you wanna go do winter sports
do you wanna do water sports
do you like forests
do you want to be able to visit france
do you want to be able to visit scandinavian countries
I see
lmao
gamedev is not really a uni speciality, btw
that's a couple of useful questions
so you can't choose a uni if you wanna do gamedev
it is what I do in my free time
aachen is more known for their engineering stuff
so if you wanna go there it's helpful if you are interested in hardware
I'm more of a software guy
in berlin you can get a lot of practice since there is an abundance of start-ups who just take anyone
munich is more for software engineering stuff
Where can you travel a lot? 👀
depends on where you wnat to travel to
this chica knows
Around germany i guess
NRW/west of germany is spretty good if you wanna go to france, netherlands, belgium
north of germany is good if you wanna go to denmark, sweden etc
I guess TU Berlin seems like the most probable choice atm
South is good for Italy, Poland etc
west of germany if you wanna go to poland, czech, etc
yaaaa
Austria
I know in some bundeslaender students can travel free to any city there
what really? I kinda heard of it
depends on which city, suzu
but is it a thing?
it depends on the uni
not all uni provide a semesterticket
and not all semestertickets are the same
What's a semesterticket?
the student ticket that allows you to use public transportation for free
A ticket with which you can use the public transportation for free with a set price for every emester
not all unis provide one
ah
you have to look it up
will do
So you get it by paying the fees anyway I think
Seit dem Sommersemester 2015 müssen Sie zusätzlich eine aktuelle Studienbescheinigung in Printform mitführen und bei Fahrausweiskontrollen vorzeigen.
ROFL
I don't see any price though
German transport fees are really expensive :c
I guess it depends on the how big the city is ? it's around 300 per semester in Munich for the semester ticket and other gebuehren
I pay 100€ a year in prague
Also for Nuremberg it's valid for the entire region
so I guess it is pretty cheap...
the region/the state ?
i can travel to any city in lower saxony with mine
any semesterticket is worth it anyway
wow I didn't know I could travel to Rothernburg ob der Tauber. I should do that sometime
unless you decide to only use your bicycle all day
:<
It's one heck of weight loss method @alpine hollow
Btw how come it does matter which uni you study? Are all german unis really that good? :O
Most German unis are really good, though afaik every uni is shit concernign organisation and stuff.
But so are most companies 🎵
Cause staff are lazy OR no one wants to pay a lot of money for organisational stuff
Whoa that’s not very “german-like” :’D
Yeah it isn't 😂
well not stereotypical German-like
How good do you think that german unis are compared to other eu countries? Or is it too hard to compare?
too hard to compare
in theory every uni is supposed to be the same
due to the bachelor/master system
I feel like the more north you go, the higher quality but that’s just my feeling 🤔
in terms of what?
Education?
why do you say that?
Cuz scandinavia has this image of elite schools
which don't exist in germany
Bayern ist das undichtest besidelte Bundesland Deutschlands
People call some unis elite unis, but like, it's not about the quality of the education
I didn’t mean germany, i mean eu
more about how much they contribute to science etc
research**
scientific research*
Oh is it possible to check somewhere how much a uni contributes to science?
research funding :)
I’m sorry if i offended someone with the remark about education in north
no worries, suzu
I believe this link has some info about funding and research in Germany https://ranking.zeit.de/che/de/
based on uni
not sure how much of a difference it makes though
the unis themselves also publish their bilance every year somewhere
at least mine does that 🤔
not sure how complete it is tho
btw the informatik faculty in Augsburg is fancy
relatively new
the city sucks though
rip
This could be a reason to choose Munich https://www.munich-startup.de/map/
Die Übersicht aller Startups, Spaces, Accelerators, Incubators, Communities und Events in München. Trage jetzt auch Dein Startup in die Karten ein!
true
A startup offers almost only disadvantages compared to "conventional" companies. You have to work incredibly hard at the startups.
I would avoid such companies.
No works council, no co-determination and the bosses are mostly selfish guys in their mid-twenties.
conversely, it's probably much easier to be hired there and it does count in your CV, so if you're entry level you might have better chances there rather than by bigger companies
Do you live in Augsburg? @brisk lotus
hey guys i am looking for someone with good german who can talk with me. also it would be really good if he has any experience in testdaf 😄
it would really help me out
@tight kelp exactly what I'm going through
@lapis pike I'm in Munich
@livid cloud do you have any questions regarding the testdaf ?
I walked past the big church in the first district Vienna and there was some kind of protest/demonstration about free Syria is that normal or? It was maybe 5/6pm
@undone gyro demonstrations in Viennas 1st district are not uncommon
Thanks it was weird bc I never seen one before o.o
They were singing something and waving a bunch of flags around
oh, if you are staying for longer
about 50 to 100 per year, and some of them with bigger impact
demonstrations and strikings will be happening more often :)
Striking?
yea, unionized strikes
Like workers?
so if you are living in germany or austria, you should check the news regularly
you'll never know when the public transport or airports are striking
but you can find out early in advance
If you don't mind me asking, why do you find the concept of demonstrations or strikes so odd? Where are you from?
For those studying in Germany, this can be useful specially during the Klausuren https://www.studydrive.net
Thank you ❤
Well I live there and it is actually pretty great.@brisk lotus
@lapis pike you live in Augsburg ?
I don't like it
I lived there as well
for one semester
It felt like a poorer city in Germany
you have been banned from r/Augsburg
I know all the great places since I live her for 24 years.
near the uni
So my picture is quiet different.
obviously
4 months aren't enough, but you know compared to other places I lived in like Munich and Heidelberg
actually where I lived was a new neighborhood
am silbermannpark
so that wasn't bad
Yeah, it's cool there.
maybe I just had a negative experience in the city
the Informatik faculty is new though
Have they finally finished the construction work in Königsplatz ?
Yes, everything finished.
I'm gonna need a couple of pictures then xD
