for informatik, I would venture a tentative guess that pretty much every single public uni in germany has a program for it.
was wondering if there was an organised list of unis to choose from like daad
google searches show articles or so with bullet point lists
mmm there is definitely lists of german universities. If 'repute' is important for you, I would list some of the top unis (RWTH Aachen, TU München, etc etc). Then just focus on where you'd want to live. i.e. 'I want to live in Berlin'--> look up unis in berlin, check informatik program, and focus your applications there
depending on grades, also take into account NC or lack thereof
oo gotcha, oki
Do you live in Wohngemeinschaft?
How much is the rent ? And your total monthly costs?
Not currently. Did before. Costs will highly depend on the city, size of your room, etc
if one is curious, one may check wg-gesucht for the city of interest
Well, sometimes I answer because I have some knowledge. If the question is too specific, I can't really contribute. This is the case here with aviation programs and the prestige difference between universities.
And sometimes it's just because I'm sleeping :P
So obviously I'm biased against you. Who am I to not be available 24/7 for your every question? :D
And why do I seem to have the nickname Microsoft Windows? ^^
What I can answer, though, is the question about the modules. But I need a bit more info. Do you mean an elective course, or something like the orientation of the whole course, so something like a minor? Or do you refer to something else entirely?
Do you refer to the "core modules" in this list?
https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/en/fmb/students/masters-degree-programmes/aerospace-engineering
Yes, and the same for FH Aachen as well. Like they used some term to define 4 Modules that they have, and from there study layout/blueprint of the Semester studies it seemed like I have to choose one of them as soon as the first semester starts. 🤔
The "focus areas" in this link.
Apparently I realised just now that even an English version is available but I was just too arrogant to use that so I forgot about it. 💀
For Braunschweig,... yeah, there is something wrong with the provided documents. Some of them are not provided at all.
Normally for a question like this I would refer to the 'Modulhandbuch' ('module hand book'). The corresponding link is broken.
Next I would refer to the 'Prüfungsordnung' ('Examination regulations'). Usually there is an addendum at the end which includes a detailed table of at least the non-electables and how their relation is. These tables are either missing completely or they are included in one of the separate documents. Whose file links are also broken.
I would contact the relevant office. Something like this should not happen.
https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/en/fmb/students/masters-degree-programmes/aerospace-engineering/documents
Like if I am understanding it correctly, then I can either freely choose all modules or I can choose according to the focus area I have selected (when, most probably at the beginning of Semester).
Also the two tables referred to on the main page disagree with one another. This is a mess.
In your link?
Yes. My biggest hope honestly would be that I've somehow made my way to an outdated part of the page, and that there is a newer one somewhere else.
This is how the page opens for me ( approximately ). I have no idea how and when I am supposed to choose this so called "Focus Areas".
They have 4 of them and I am most interested in Sustainable Aircraft Propulsion. 🤔
: D
Ah, seems to be that only the English version of the site is outdated? I found a working one (and since they haven't translated their documents at all, there is no difference.)
https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/fmb/studium/master/lur/dokumente#
Well, you are looking at Aachen, and I'm looking at Braunschweig still.
Please ignore my above message. I read your message a little incorrect. The photo is of the programme in FH Aachen 💀
Maybe I'll come around to Aachen after the Braunschweig issue is settled. :D
This seems to be much more concise:
https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/fileadmin/Redaktionsgruppen/Fakultaeten/FK4/studierende/Master_LRT_ab_WS22_23/Anlage1_MSc_LuR_2022.pdf
Although there are still things unclear tome at this point.
If you want, we can go to a channel and look into it there. Should be a bit quicker, and we won't spam the chat for hours :D
Let me go through the English version... Give me 5 Minutes
Suits me.
Apparently English version is more understandable. 😤😤😤
@next hull From this I am actually able to understand pretty clearly their Semester Designation.

Yes, but the tables don't match.
Well, I could be interpreting wrong. But for example, in the lower table you have 2 modules in 'Kernbereich' ('code modules'). But under the table there are three listed, all as mandatory:
-Modeling and Numerics of Differential Equations
-Space Missions
-Design of Commercial Aircraft I
It doesn't help that the structure of the tables are different.
Only 2 Modules are mandatory
1.) Numerics of Differential Equations
2.)Space Mission and Design of Commercial Aircraft
"modules": plural, also the "and" is not italicized.
Also those two don't seem like they would be a good fit.
I would assume the table in German means that you atleast have to take "Numerics of Differential Equations" which contributes 5 Points
At that is why I think the tables don't match :D
But because it's a table they didn't write the other 2 Core Modules
They say it'S more detailed, and then they omit modules?
I'm not buying it. I would rather assume that one of the tables has been changed, and the other one wasn't updated.
You know what, they probably wrote the first module name (Numerical.... Equations) but then realised they don't have enough space to write the name of the other 2 Modules, so wrote
"2 Module je 5 LP".
So total 3 Modules
But still so sloppy
I have been part of a committee that checks stuff like that for inconsistencies. I'm not buying it.
am i an idiot for not even looking at the modules and things about my degree which starts in 1month
Any other descrepancies ? You found ?
No, not an idiot. Average, maybe. But you should look into it at some point. Might be you need to apply for a seat in the course.
i read some infoblatt that the uni sent me
As I said, the German version seems to be much clearer. I suspect they didn't bother updating the English site in earnest.
wasnt mentioned there that i need to book my seat lmfao
Too cumbersome and tedious right ? 😂
Agreed, having a German Detailed Table when you are reading all modules in English is so sloppy.
In any case, don't miss the first lecture. Stuff like this might only be mentioned there.
i think ill miss it
There is a German table waaaaay bigger than that one.
cause i need to enrol to my uni personally
And it's dated from July 2022.
Usually you can. This should not be a problem for the lectures per se. But you might need to apply for the practical part of a course, which is usually done in groups (like talking about homework or doing laboratory things). Sometimes you are assigned to a group by the university, but sometimes you have to register on a first-come-first-serve basis. I can still remember from my time at University Münster when every semester, the faculty server breaking down because of students spamming out requests the minute the site was opened.
Did you find the Anlage 2 as well ?
https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/fmb/studium/master/lur/dokumente#
Here you go. All in there.
ugh shit im at a TU they got much practical things
i hope they wont confuse me with all this
Thanks. Now atleast the structure for Braunschweig is clear. I would like to move to the FH Aachen part as well once if you have no problem.
Some students didn't bother coming to the first lecture after a few semesters, because they would just ask another student for the registration key afterwards. But then a professor who didn't like the server gave out a list during lecture. Man, those students were stumped when they came back from the Mensa and asked about the key :D
shit
Sure. If there's anything you need translated I can offer assistance. But now on to Aachen. Where did you look until now? Would you send me the link?
Ah, and I had something left about Braunschweig that wasn't clear to me: You have three core modules. Which one do you take in which semester?
That I am still not certain. The only thing certain is that you take all 3 in the spam of 3 Semesters. 🤔
I would expect some order to be more beneficial than other ones. If it truly is the core stuff, it willprobably be needed elsewhere.
So you wanted to know something about 'core' modules, but I don't see them in the list. Would you please repeat your question in regard to Aachen?
Focus Areas
Not core modules
I just realised "entwerfen" means to design not to remove 💀
"discard" would be "verwerfen" :D
does anyone have an idea when it says "Gesamtpauschalmiete" does it include all costs?
heating electricity etc
or if any of u lives in Studentenwerk dorms if its the same everywhere is this Warmmiete
By the way, they have written in the Module Handbook of TU Braunschweig that
1.) "Numerik von Differentialgleichungen" will be studied in Sem 2
2.) And the other 2 Core Modules are in Sem 1
Entwerfen von Verkehrsflugzeuge (Not entfernen) 😤😤😤
So that clears that.
Of course there would be a module on discarding aeroplanes. Sustainability is key! ;P
should include that stuff
Warmmiete typically does not have to include electricity, internet and other amenities. At least, it didn't for me. (But I didn't live in a student dorm)
Actually to be honest, with the development of reusable rocket engines and parts, probably,
"Proper discarding and reusing of aircrafts" will definitely become a module in the near future.

Maybe not for aviation students. I'd love to see it, but I wouldn't expect it.
No idea, honestly. Didn't live in a student dorm, after all.
i got an acception from TU München from an english subject
how a legal prodecure works out rn
can someone inform me please i would be really glad
should i directly go to embassy for a student visa
By the way, did you understand, when I can choose the focus areas in the FH Aachen Programm?
Can't you just apply for VISA online ?
dont think so
also my faculty is enlish taught but my german is on a good level but havent received a german certificate yet. do you think would it be necesarry for visa
I would expect that information to be found in the Prüfungsordnung for the course. Should I go look for it or do you already have it at hand?
real flex
Why?
They have no particular detail in a pdf. The only pdf they have is like a general pdf with everything in it. If you can find it that would be great.
tbh
the way you are explaining it is very confusing
And their Module Handbook is total online.
I think they are legally obliged to have a Prüfungsordnung, so there should definitely be one.
the information you need is at your admission letter
i got my admission letter
it is stated there how can you enrol etc and the docs you need
read it...it explains how you can enrol
if youre asking only for visa then this depends on your country
call your local embadsy
embassy
or look at their website first
my embassy is really salty they tell me read the website info and hang up with no explanation lmfao
m asking only dor a visa
One very important question. Are you at FH Aachen or RWTH Aachen?
I forgot that there are multiple universities in that city.
So you gave me the right one?
at the website of your embassy you usually have the documents you must present for a visa and how can you book an appointment
i hope you dont need a ling process cause you have left this for too late its september already
but the thing is that my faculty is english taught
why would i
altough i can go to embassy and speak german there
I am not totally certain with the whole process thoroughly but it goes something like this:
1.) You apply at different German Universities through Uni-assist.
2.) Receive the admission letter.
3.) Now, since you have got the admission letter without clearing any German language exam, I would assume that your course is totally in English. I personally would believe that you can apply for a VISA Online from your national portal. Like download there application form and then upload it (after filling it completely) and other documents and wait to get a VISA interview date ( I think you will require Goethe B1 for this).
4.) Open a blocked account in a German Bank (approx. 10451 Euros) and apply for Health and Travel Insurance in any such company (say Coracle).
5.) Enroll in whichever university you want till there deadline and fill in the Semester Contribution Fees.
6.) Take all your files and attend the VISA Interview
Visa will be delivered in some time ( some days to probably around a month or 2.)
??
so what
it doesnt matter
if youre not from EU you need a visa
god damn are u not able to understand me
FH Aachen sorry I was writing this huge message and did not see I got Pinged
where are you from?
depends on the embassy
i have friends here that got a visa while studying for an english degree
with 0 german skills no b1 or even a1 needed
its all about the specific country
So. Sorry, had been occupied. Let me see...
There is a table on page 9 of this document, but I seem to be unable to find a genuine Prüfungsordnung:
https://www.fh-aachen.de/fileadmin/fb/fb06_luft_und_raumfahrttechnik/Studiengangsseiten/m_aerospace_engineering_2022-screen.pdf
Ah, there they are: https://www.fh-aachen.de/downloads/fh-mitteilungen/pruefungsordnungen/luft-und-raumfahrttechnik/master/aerospace-engineering-abws2223
The information you need is covered by article 3, section 2. You don't have to take a focus at all. You can receive a certificate for the focus as long as you take the required elective courses.
Is that everything you needed?
I am a bit busy right now. But yeah I just want to know when will I choose the "Focus Areas" or free modules? Just at the starting of the semester ?
I will be back in an hour or 2.
hello, what is the best way, to search for a particular city, see if it fits your budget
is there a particular website for this ?
I would say most cities are fit for every budget, as long as you are willing to take compromises. You might not be able to "participate in social life" (like going to clubs, cinema etc.), you might be living in a dump - figuratively or sometimes almost literally -, you might not be able to live inside the city and have to commute a long way (taking time and being undependable with some routes).
So the higher your budget is and the lower-cost the city is, you might have more possibilities open to you and more convenience.
Considering this, I wouldn't think there would be a way to quantify that in a comprehensive way. But it also wouldn't surprise me if someone had done this or had at least tried to do this in some way.
That a great way to put it, thank you so much
I think I understand now
Oh thank you so much, I myself found that website but I wanted to find ( Fritzlar - Hessen ) unfortunately could not find it there
I don't know if the site is reliable.
Do anyone know about Bachelor Plus MINT program in University of Saarland?
Hello, I am trying to go to boarding school in Baden-Wurttemburg for the next school year and onwards. Besides a student visa, I'm unsure of what else I need for studying in Germany. Can anybody please list what I need. If you must know it is a private school.
Disclaimer: I'm not from Baden-Wurttemberg, but from NRW.
But for starters, what year are you going to attend? Material's different for every year.
And do you refer to stuff you have to learn/know, to things you physically have to bring to school (like writing utensils and books), to things for living at a boarding school,...
Answering this might help anyone trying to answer your question.
The school provides a list of materials for every year. What I mean for stuff like documents. e.g. visas, permits, insurances, etc.
Then I won't be able to help you. Maybe someone else can, though.
Also, aren't all boarding schools in Germany held privately anyway?
(I'm including "Schulen mit privater Trägerschaft" with this, which some schools pride themselves from being somehow different from "private schools", but I have yet to find out in what way -.-)
Thank you anyway
Hello, not asking for a legal advice , I was just wondering if someone could tell me about best way to do my tax returns
depends a lot on how complex they are and if you have any income outside of germany. Wundertax is pretty decent if they're not complex enough that you need a steuerberater though
Honestly the requirements to get the student visa are a good place to start. Idk how proof of finances applies to your situation since it's a lot different from just going to uni which is where my experience is, but you'll definitely need to get German health insurance.
Hi Yall I have a question
When applying for student visa do I have to have language proficieny certificate?
afaik no, but you need your certificate of enrollment so if the place you're studying requires one you'll need it for that
Thank you, so much ( I think the phone will protect against malware and other things(
What are some nice cities or towns in Germany? In terms of affordability, safety, walkability, just normal things you would look for in a city
I reached a similar conclusion, but I guess my situation isn't that complicated, thanks for your input
what can i buy with the social benefits money? imean theres has to be a particular list of what im allowed to buy and not with that benefits money
Got out of the consulate today: it's official, my visa is coming to me next week. I'm moving to Germany on the 26th!!
I found some cool cheap flight connections with kiwi.com that I can take a small backpack with me on, but I'm wondering about shipping luggage now.
How do I cost-effectively ship my stuff (clothes, small personal belongings, electronics, files, no furniture)? American btw
Ok I looked at some international moving companies and am going to get some quotes
Should I foresee any logistical problems if I put my move before my plane trip (so that I can arrive after my stuff is there and my friend who I'm staying with can move it all inside)?
Anyone know if one counts as an international or a "German" student when it comes to applying to German universities? If I'm an EU citizen and would be studying in German, not English
Immer gerne! ✌️ I meant the fidelity of the information . Ich drücke dir die Daumen!
this is probably unnecessary and complicated. I just stuffed everything in my suitcases.
hey guys, do anyone know how legitimate a contract is if its send through whatsapp?
What kind of contract? If it's something that has been pushed onto you without your consent, it shouldn't even be called a contract regardless of delivery method. Or would you agree to the terms and are just sceptical about the legitimacy of the other party?
And by the way, it would be incredibly stupid (from my point of view at least) to send any kind of official paperwork through a social network.
Its a rent contract
And I mailed the signed contract by my side
and it is the second case were I agree to terms but not sure about legitimacy of the other party
do you have a signed copy from them?
Usually they would send you a version signed by them which you could sign and mail back. I have also exchanged signed contracts via text, and I didn't have any issues but I assumed that they were sort of 'tentative' and not as binding as a signed paper. Important thing is: don't send any money until you have walked into the place and you have a contract signed by the landlord in hand.
ohhk yeeah but my landlord is asking for half deposit before hand bc they also want assurance and they have agreed to meet my friend in person and show the place and then transfer half deposit is that ok or something is fishy?
well, as long as your friend (who you know) has been there and seen it and sees the landlord before you send any money it could be okay. And ofc you have the signed copy of the contract.
so long as you have that, even if they attempt to scam you you have some ammunition to sue them: their signature, you know for sure that the flat exists, its address, etc.
Yeaah thanks this really helped
this really helped thank you
What are good places to find housing in Germany?
wg-gesucht
@quick salmon Could you ask for the key within the next 12 hours after the transaction and if they denied it, reverse the operation, maybe?
but I am renting from oct so i don't think that is fair to ask right?
Don't know. I'm fairly unfamiliar with renting 😅. Let's wait if others have an opinion on that.
does anyone have a bunch of websites / resources given to german highschoolers for university admissions etc
man
we international students going to germany this year are the most cursed
we are going in the worst year when the prices are skyrocketing
still think the worst year was 2020
Has any one here acquired the German Citizenship, or know someone here who has? Mainly asking because I am interested in doing that myself and have some questions that I hope someone can answer.
It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
oof , im not going this year but in 2024
duh
u should be grateful
until then prbably things will calm down
i will be if i get in to tu munich 😂
i mean
if youre eu youre a privileged citizen
if non eu learn german and keep decent grades
tu munich isnt anything wow like a bunch of my stupid friends got accepted there💀
rejected the offer tho cause we broke
Well, ask about the coming years when prices may have skyrocketed even further. In retrospect, 2022 might not even be as bad. Let's see how next year pans out.
The prices started climbing even before. There were plenty warning that the stimulus packages from 2020 would do that eventually. Putin just really accelerated this.
ugh
yeaah thats what happens when you just pump cash in the system
Hello, Was bedeutet ( Pflegedienstleitung )
is ot someone you call to, to ask questions in an (Ausbildung job ) ?, And how to knwpy when to call
?
That is a person (or group) that leads the department of care taking
Though context could matter
Well I found a job offer
And enough information was not Published for submitting myself
And on the website it was written ( Pflegedienstleitung
His number.... )
@molten root
Then that is most likely The person which is responsible for recruiting and / or Human Resources for the care taking team
Yoo I wanna go to Tum too
Moving in august
Hello People
Do you rather studying in Studienkolleg (T- Kurs) Hamburg or Mainz or Hannover

Oh nice you got in !
is someone from Jena Thüringen oder ist bei der nähe ?
Do teachers in Germany make a decent living? Is it a better life than say for a teacher in America?
If I want to pursue a career in language/history teaching, what degrees and courses should I look into?
When it comes to studying a bachelor degree in Germany, does age matter?
I'm 23 years old.
is there an age limitation for berufschule? heard after 24 you cant enter
nope, doesnt matter
plenty of people in all stages of 20s (even 30s) at german unis
how much does it cost to study in germany
It depends on the state.
In Baden-Württemberg it costs around 1.500€ per semester for foreign students. For me it costs around. 270€
not to mention all the costs involved with moving to another country and proof of finance if you're a non EU citizen
Hey! I want to move to Germany to study, but before Uni I must finish one of the studienkollegs. How is it better to choose one? I want to study IT
Yeah, some universities started imposing fees, most still don't though, I mean more than the basic contribution
My mom has spent 11k Euro just as preparation, not including the other 10k for language classes in total.
im a non eu citizen
💀 it is not as free as people make it out to be but cheaper than UK, Singapore and Australia
And a lot of people think they can get stipendum but hey... are you part of the top 1% of your grade?
🙂 in my country only the middle class or above can afford going to germany for "free" education with many people not realising that its often a marketing strategy to say it is free while hiding behind the stack of additional costs.
Studying in Germany is still a great opportunity but most students (even natives) are just barely scraping by working retail jobs part time. And as a non EU citizen you're already barred from many benefits. You can still apply for Bafög though.
You don't have to be part of the top 1% in Germany to be able to receive a Stipendium.
Has anyome in this server got an ausbildung from Middle east, and is now in Germany, if yes, message me please, I want a bit help
I'd still say that top grades matter especially for non eu candidates
I'd say it depends on the type of Stipendium.
Of course, it's preferable to have good grades regardless of your qualification for a Stipendium.
But actually, for a lot of Stipendien they don't even have as many applicants as they want to give out. So if you qualify at all, you should have a decent chance to receive one.
Leeroy's will wissen
Hello, my dear friends does anybody overhere belongs or have access to German Embassy in Pakistan, Karachi.
is there anyone from Bochum? I am planning to move there and would like to ask some questions about the city
@next hull Haben Sie frei ? Ich möchte um etwas bitten.
I just want to know, that what will I study when I arrive at my university?
As you can see their are 5 options
General Aerospace Engineering
Focus 1
Focus 2
Focus 3
Focus 4
For the life of God, I can't find out if I will get the chance to choose between them after I arrive at the university or what ? Each of the options have different modules, so I want to be sure that I will choose my path for studying on which I will decide once I arrive at the university.
@plush mango one of the unis I applied to has a resource outlining common scam tactics, hopefully that helps you a bit
Thank you very much, i will ask them for a videocall
Is there anything wrong with recording people in the background when I make a vlog in Berlin, Germany? My planned vlog is SFW.
@plush mango Maybe this can help a bit
What are some of the best cities in Germany?
You're lucky the files are still in my browser history.
You cannot find the information at the place where you are looking. For things like that you have to recall the Prüfungsordnung.
You can find a download link here: https://www.fh-aachen.de/downloads/fh-mitteilungen/pruefungsordnungen/luft-und-raumfahrttechnik/master/aerospace-engineering-abws2223
The relevant bit is this (article 3, section 2 - I'm quite sure I pointed this out to you previously, but it may have been drowned in the other stuff):
"Zusätzlich zum allgemeinen Masterabschluss in Aerospace Engineering kann ein Schwerpunkt gesetzt
werden, sofern eine gewisse Kombination an Modulen gemäß Studienplan erfolgreich absolviert wird."
which roughly translates to
"In addition to the general masters degree in Aerospace Engineering it's possible to take a study focus, if a certain combination of modules according to the study plan is successfully completed."
So you just study normally. If at the end of your studies you have completes the requirements for a focus, you can have it added to your graduation certificate. You can ask someone from the faculty on how/when to do this, but I wouldn't expect it to be relevant prior to your last semester.
Does this answer your question?
hi, guys, question for German natives. where y'all going out? like I was on my trip of getting to know Germany more and... I have not met a single friend in a time period of 15 days.
Not German, but am highly extroverted and usually meet at least one person when I go out, but yeah, where are you located and where are you going „out“ to exactly?
well, i have been going out with my aunt most of my time in like regular bars and cafes, in Braunschweig. I have tried engaging in a couple of conversations with locals but they all looked either too tired to speak or not interested. like majority of people appears to be very cold idk. I don't wanna generalize every German here but just speaking from my little experience. So I was asking myself, maybe they go somewhere else when they have fun and use these bars and cafes only when they're resting from work. Oof, I have written a lot. Sorry
Are there any music clubs in Braunschweig?
hello
can any one help me ? what is the internal ship is it a year before the buchlar degree to study germany ?
Is there anything wrong with recording people in the background in a place where I am allowed to record a video and take photos when I make a vlog in Berlin, Germany? My planned vlog is SFW.
#archived-media
Important question
If I want to become an English/Polish language teacher in Germany, what degrees should i seek?
So, does this mean that these focus areas are basically just suggestions about how one can schedule their Master's studies, we aren't forced to choose one of them?
Additionally, do we have to complete all the modules which comprise the focus area in order to literally complete the focus area? After completion of all the given modules only will we be given the acknowledgment of completing the specific focus area ?
me too! bump
What about #archived-media?
I don't have my vlog footage and video yet.
C1 that's a bare minimum in most of situations
Cool, so now its two of us need the answer
But my high school diploma/ certificate is old it dates back to 2017
Note: its accepted and recognised by the higher education in Germany according to that website which I always forget it's name.
@chrome mulch
Bro ty but that’s not a degree
that's not even old 👀
regardless, yes, you just have to submit it to uni-assist
to become anything more than a kindergarten or substitute teacher you need to go through the a university level education program and pass the state exams afterwards
Yes I understand but WHAT DEGREES
I understand I need masters
But for which ones
Education? and then specialize in whatever subject you're going to teach
Ok
the exact names might vary by uni but generally thats my understanding
Thanks
(Lehramt)
Thank you.
studienkollegs.de
Has a list of stks and other info.
Choose and apply. Clear the entrance exam.
Start.
Seems like it on both accounts. I think we have something similar my Hochschule for one of the courses. But if you want to double-check, you can ask the appropriate office at the university.
how is the education (Both university and secondary) in germany?
how far do they go in the naturwissenschaften?
(And also, out of curiosity, do they teach special relativity in secondary?)
Really depends what kind of specialty you're looking at. I'm in cancer research and there are some world's leading experts in a lot of fields here
is the secondary education more specialized (Like A-levels) or does it require students to be more generally rounded? (Like IB)
that is actually really cool! do you mean that like you have access to contact with the top experts or you are simply saying that they are in germany?
Ehh both
With the state of science now every country that has decent funding will have some world expert because the field is so diverse. At least that's how it is in my field (biochemistry)
So i think what you want to do is a more important factor. But if you want to do something related to science germany is a pretty good place to go
that's cool to know!
are their universities tougher than in the rest of the world?
That would be pretty subjective. Again can only say about my specific field, but here the bachelor and master's programmes are more practical based. Bachelor students here have more hands-on research experience than most other countries' master students that I've seen, so professors tend to have a higher expectation when it comes to that for PhD programmes, for example. My bachelor's in a UK university had more difficult classes and went more in depth in lectures and imo better assignments, but less focus on the practical side of things
No problem!
could someone help me finalising my motivation letter?
You mean checking for spelling/grammar errors?
Is there someone student at HHU Düsseldorf, can they please DM me?
I have a few questions?
For EU citizens, are we allowed only 1 masters degree at reduced/free tuition or can you do multiple?
I know some countries only have reduced/free tuition for first-time uni students
Hello, I want to do an ausbildung in germany this year after I finish highschool, but there is no section for ausbildung visa in my country's german embassy, any help? What should I do?
https://beirut.diplo.de/lb-de/service/05-VisaEinreise/-/2081604
Can someone explain me what really happens at DAAD appointments. On their websites they say that they help in guiding people to apply and choose Unis and answer any queries. So it’s just this or something more?
What happens if I take a gap year after high school? What if I want to live in another country for 1 year after graduating, then come to Germany for arbitur?
Is this going to make it more difficult for me to get accepted into a university?
what is the difference between contract and noncontract when you buy a simCard in Germany?
hello guys, How do I decide, which ( Bundesland ) I should send my school certificates to, to get recognized, like How would I choose, if this Bundesland does not fit me or is okay. or is there really a difference, for example in Baden-Würtemberg there is "Kehrwoche" does these things really matter
Well, there are regional differencies between German Bundesländer, as well as within them and differencies between urban and rural areas. But they should not be as much of a deal as it might seem to you now. It's basically impossible to learn about them all, so you might as well just pick someplace nice and look into it a bit more in detail. If there really something problematic for you, just pick another place and try again. ^^
Ok thank you, that was my thought too, Its very hard to look into every Bundeland, but my fear is, if I send my Highschool grduate degree to a Bundesland, and the results come back somewhat bady but If I had sent them to a different Bundesland, it would have been different
Vielen dank
It tells you to that your qualifications are not equivalent to the Abitur and you need to do the studienkolleg/fsp(the final exam at the end of Studienkolleg)
Btw is this the English site, then try using translate on the German site, it’s generally better
Abitur is the highest degree you can get in a "normal" school, which unconditionally qualifies you to study at a university.
A majority of students nowadays finishes school with Abitur.
I think you are Indian? Cbse?
Will there be any increase in the amount of money we need for the closed bank account?
There is an increase for this year. Just check the official websites
yes, 11,208 euros will most likely be required in 2023 https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/sperrkonto/388600
What I don't understand is: Is the Sperrkonto a bank account on its own? Will I get a debit card for it? Or do I need to set up a second bank account (after I get to Germany, at Deutsche Bank, for example) for my Sperrkonto to monthly deposit into?
I believe it's the latter
so i'm starting to look for apartments in berlin, not sure what the average price for a small single room studio is in downtown
wg-gesucht listings go for around 700-900eur
it seems like I'll need to get a short term house first and then get a long term one which honestly seems like way too much of a hassle for a 6 months stay
because everyone wants a schufa
you can usually get schufa within a few minutes online. It costs 20-40€
Is it possible to rent a one room apartment in berlin as a student tho
Cuz they want you to give them proof of your last 3 months wage
it's going to be difficult to find a flat if you're not employed. You'll want to show proof of parental support, and even then some renters don't want that.
Hallo, vor 9 Monaten, habe ich mich für die Ausbildung des Krankenpflegers entschlossen. Weil ich bin jetzt vom Ausland bedeutet nicht EU, so ich dachte, ich wäre eine gute Chance haben, um eine Ausbildung für Krankenpfleger zu finden. auf Grund des Schlechte bezahlunges für einen sehr schwierigen Arbeit, und man ist immer gestresst, deswegen nicht viele Menschen von Deutschland oder EU möchten diese bestimmte Arbeit, ( in order to get accepted for an Ausbildung when you are outside of Europe, it will be on the condition that when have been accepted to the job and you are waiting for 3 Months, no one from EU should wnat your Job, otherwise you are refused )
any advanzia gebuhrenfrei credit card users here? had some query (related to the payments)
Bros, do you use any private liability insurance? May you review/suggest abt it, ? I’ll need one for my room renting, tks bro
P/S: just bought one from dr-walter, tks bros
I find it funny that private liability insurance is so common here in Germany and so uncommon in the US despite the US being the place stereotyped as constantly having people sue each other
(btw bruh get home contents insurance too if you can afford it, it's usually super cheap and if there's a fire or flooding or something you're gonna want some help buying new stuff)
when you've never been to germany?
according to some random guy on reddit, I can, but it comes out as blank?
also, anyone heard of urban elite before? apparently a startup for hosting "elites", I really dont like the the exclusivity vibes it's showing but the perks seem interesting, including no deposits for rent
never had a schufa done someone just had to vouch they'll pay in my stead if I'm unable
Hello...
Can anyone prefer me a better University in Germany to persuade my master's in aerospace engineering.
And the criteria required.
15 degrees at universities and colleges in Germany - Find 15 Master's Degrees in Aerospace Engineering to study abroad.
Hey people
I can't find a Zimmer in einer WG in Hannover
I've checked WG gesucht, eBay and other websites too .
Do you have any suggestions how can I get a room there?
My semester will begin in Oktober and I don't have a place
If you can't find a room and have no other alternative, you might have to look in the surrounding areas and commute.
At least temporarily.
I've checked Hemmingen, Laatzen, Hildesheim
And unfortunately there's no place with a reasonable price tbh
Like I can afford 300-450 for a WG( Warmmiete)
I'm not sure about Hanover, but I doubt you'd find something much lower than that in a university city.
By the way, is Semesterticket covered for you?
It's cheaper in Halleh, Mainz , Gießen (about 250 )
Yes
Then you can look at the cities with a train connection to Hanover.
http://karteplan.com/deutschland/land/niedersachsen/schienennetz-karte-von-niedersachsen.jpg
Thank you so much
I have been commuting for about five years now (daily for about 2.5 years until Covid hit, less after that). I wouldn't recommend anything where it takes you more than 1.5 hours from house door to university. That's roughly the time I need. Because of construction work and other stuff I had times where my commute time was longer, and this took a toll on me really fast. Ideal would be less than an hour. But it may vary depending on the times and frequency you'd have to be at university.
I just noticed the map is from 2015. The routes should still be basically the same, but you should check just in case.
Yes!
My First experience with DB wasn't pretty good tho.
The train that I've booked was cancelled and I had arrived 2 hours later in destination but they did let me to use ICE and that was great ^~^
Thank you for sharing , I will find the latest version ^-^
Another recommendation: If you have the luxury, try to find somewhere with multiple lines to Hanover or research how many construction projects are scheduled for the next years... my line had about 2/3 of a year of full/partial downtime the last two years alone -.-
And there is no alternative route, only busses (Schienenersatzverkehr) -.-!

What are the beauty standards for teen guys in Germany atm??
is the wahlkurse in gymnasium in bayern mandatory?
"Wahlkurs" (plural: "Wahlkurse") is literal for "elective course". I'd assume you'd have to pick a certain number of them but have options (not from Bavaria myself).
ah, i see, thanks
Just a random general question
If I were to stay in Germany for 90 days (without visa)
And then were to move to a neighboring country like Belgium. Would that be possible or is the 90 day non-visa tourist stay connected with all countries within the EU? ty :D
am pretty sure it's not for the entire EU
I have a question
what is the best way to yeet myself from america to germany (so i can practice and improve my language skills)?
i am considering the university route but that requires me to wait around a year to save like 15000 or more
or i can try to wait a year and then apply to jobs in germany with a year of experience in IT
if anyone is knowledgeable about emigrating feel free to dm me with any advices
How much time off do Uni students usually get in Germany? Does a Summer break exist? If so, how long is it, and is travel possible in this time?
Summer break is about 3 months long
ehhh vorlesungsfreie Zeit (the time where lectures are over until the beginning of the winter semester) is approx. 15.07.-15.10. BUT during this time you will have Prüfungen. The Prüfungsphase could last for practically the whole 'break.' That's what happened to me this semester. Have had exams spaced from the fifteenth of july until the 26th of September and have not been able to really relax or travel. But I think you're pretty much guaranteed the two weeks at the beginning of October 😄
But yeah theoretically if you're not too busy studying and working you can do whatever you want during those 3 months.
Thank you!!!
Actually i just checked that my vorlesungsfreie Zeit this semester was about 2 months long and i was quite lucky with my exams
But yeah I've met people whose exams practically lasted through the whole break
well that would depend on your eating habits wouldn't it?
usually when you apply to a university they give you a small table of food and their prices
where are you planning to live?
yes but what do you eat for a meal
Well, I also used to swear I wouldn't smoke but here we are
but drinking isn't so expensive if its nothing fancy
a beer is like 2 euros, but that would change depending on where you'll live, which you haven't told me yet by the way
Are you indian?
I eat chapati almost daily here, there's an indian restaurant nearby. great bread
No but when you said chapati
Yeah if your diet is like that then youre not gonna have trouble financially
zurich is quite expensive from what i know but your diet is still cheap
Is it expensive to live in Zurich?
Zurich is one of the top three most expensive cities in the world to live in.
from a headline i just searched
yes me too
I am Syrian, I live in the UAE, and yes I am applying to Germany
zurich might be expensive for you so review your budget if your insisted on zurich
look into funding options
scholarships for example
some unis offer fundings for broke students
4500 is still a lot of money
enough to cover living expenses for a couple months
If i want to find a job as an English Teacher in Germany, I know I need a Masters + TEFL, but question is, what do I do a Masters in?
I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, do correct me if needed. I've been struggling to find an internship in Germany for quite some time. I am in post secondary education and I am specifically seeking out a compulsory Schulpraktikum placement. Any tips or recommendations in regards to finding one?
guys I need help to shortlist few uni's for my masters
can anyone help me out pls! i wanna do masters in data science in germany
apart from lmu, rwth and tum I need to know which uni's provide good education and culture
pls help me out with this issue, im seated confused
can you guys help me or not?
I'm an Indian, the difference you'll look into us I can understand. I f you guys can help me pls do dm me thank you.
it doesn't matter
it's a student job. If it's in Germany, they aren't going to care about your nail polish
hello everyone have a nice evening. if there is someone who's going to apply to a university via uni assist can you reach me? i've got some questions that i can not find the answers
I wonder how much it cost to study MSc in germany @.@
It really depends on where in Germany you want to study. Most of the universities aren't that expensive. The real expenses come from rent, insurance, groceries etc.
It also depends on where you come from. If you're from outside of the EU, you'd have to spend more money here
yeah the main costs are the costs of moving here in the first place and the cost of living once you're here (which gets factored into costs of moving here if you're from outside the EU bc you usually need a blocked account)
if you get any details on that too lmk
I can help you out. I will be joining Saarland University for Master's in Computer Science this semester
I am currently looking for automotive or energy engineering in Germany for English taught program for summer semester, any suggestions
Try daad and Hochschule compass
Not many Programms begin in summer semester
Yes I have researched there and found some.
That is the problem, I do not want to delay more. And any idea how important is the ranking of a college?
People ask again and again but it doesnt matter
at most unis where you apply directly through the uni you still have to apply for and submit a VPD from uni-assist: it is an official and recognised document which converts your qualifications into their german equivalent. It says whether or not you are able to study at a german uni (and in which fields)
imagine it like this: universities don't want to read all your shit and try to figure out whether it is equal to a german abitur. So you pay uni-assist to do it. then the university just has to read the paper (VPD) that has the converted grade and infos
when ı have to enrollment to a university after my bewerbung and am ı have to do that in face to face or online
Hello
Are there any ways to open a blocked account beside Deutsche Bank
other German banks have them afaik, they usually advertise them on their websites if you search
idk how different the different banks offerings are tho
I'll look it up, I also found that fintiba is a good solution with all procedures done online, so I have to find out more I guess
Thanks btw
Hello, uhm I was thinking of applying to a new course at a German university I'm doing my bachelor's at a regional college here but I'd like to start a fresh course so when I looked for the requirements it had "restricted admission" as "no" what does it mean by?
And will it be difficult to get an admission if you're having a gap of 3 years? Well the gap can be justified since i was doing my previous course.
It depends on the course, entrance to some degrees depends on what you took and got in high school, which is what it refers to with restricted admission. I think the DAAD site has more information regarding this and the criteria. I'm not sure about the 3 years bit, it may be something to talk about, but should be nothing major as long as you meet the requirements and are still on the ball with the subject. Someone else probably knows more and will comment though
The uni site should also have info tbf. Could be worth talking to thwir admissions team
Ohh I see. Well, they've an aptitude test that's what decides if I'm fit for the admission or not.
oh wow
Oh okay, I'll contact them.
What degree are you looking at if you don't mind me asking?
Dms if you're okay with it?
Yeah sure. I think I have dms open
Danke schön
Ich kenne das Gefühl ganz bestimmt.

I want to ask a question about German cities, but someone may understand me wrong. If so, I can delete the question.
Which city is the most elegant city in Germany in terms of education level and politeness? I wonder if there's any city like Canada 😄
How do you compare politeness between cities? I mean, education level I can understand (even though this would be hard as well). Maybe even elegance (I would take the culture and architecture into consideration, and maybe how big the art sector is as a fraction of the city economics).
And then there's the obvious statistical dilemma: Do you value averages over consistency?
In all honesty, I would suppose you'd have the best chances with a city so small it's basically made up entirely from an private university campus with forest around. But I doubt this is the answer you're looking for.
Since when is Canada a city?
Since now
Canada in general (except the capital 😄)
I have got a Task in my Sprachkurs to make my Lebenslauf, in the german format. I have changed schools 3 times, so should i include all of them? And what should i name the section with the Sprachkenntnisse and Computerkenntnisse, i have, in my first draft, chosen 'Weitere Qualifikationen'
The example in my book has 'Weitere Kenntnisse und Faehigkeiten', which i find a bit too formal.
I have no idea about German cities. It’s normal to have differences between cities in the same country. For example; foreigners tolerance. That can be the value for the politiness. This is a bit difficult topic to ask and explain
I guess you should then try city stereotypes and find which one suits you
weitere Kenntnisse seems normal. I don't know why you would think it's more formal than 'weitere Qualifikationen'.
weitere Fähigkeiten as well, normal
I think on my Lebenslauf the header is 'weitere Fähigkeiten und Sprachkenntnisse'
when in doubt, just search up 'Lebenslauf Vorlagen (or Muster)'
As for whether you should put the change of schools....That really depends on your age and what you've done so far in life. And what kind of school was changed? Are you still in school? Do you have a university degree? Were you changing unis?
I am still in highschool, so schools are my only educataional qualifications.
without all the schools my cv will be almost just half a page
can someone explain the concept of a "Kaution" for me when applying for a WG
it is a deposit you make that you get back at the end assuming the apartment hasn't been damaged
yeah then just put all the schools on there.
the end of what the month or the year
when you move out
so apart from the $500 rent i pay monthly i also have to make a deposit
sheesh
i see some apartments that say 2 rooms available with 6 mitbewohner
how is that possible
idk where you're from originally, but in most western countries this is normal I believe. A 'security deposit'
2 available rooms. Not 2 total rooms.
ohh that makes more sense
so its basically a huge house with rooms that they rent out
youre still allowed to like use the kitchen and living rooms right?
ive never been in a shared apartment im aware how stupid my questions are
you should read the advertisements. Not all WGs have a living room. The kitchen will be shared 🙂
it's not uncommon for flats in germany to be laid out like an entry/hallway with rooms coming off of it. WGs will usually split up the bedrooms (1 per Mitbewohner) and share bathroom and kitchen. Nicer/bigger WGs may have shared living spaces
Cool cool, sounds nice
also, be aware that some ads on websites like WG-gesucht--you can identify them because it's usually a metric shit-ton of all male residents, relatively cheap rent, and a few open spaces--are for 'Burschenschaften'. These are something like long-standing German fraternities.
well, 4 male residents is probably not a Burschenschaft. Hold on let me find an example...
its a 6 people wg with 4 people in it
160 euro rent
it says its a student place in the ad
this, for example
you can usually tell because in their 'about' section they throw around words like 'Berufsleben' and 'Lebensbund' etc and sometimes links in the advertisement
whats a Burschenschaft?
as I said, something like a long-standing german fraternity. This isn't in itself problematic, it's just something to think about: Burschenschaften are generally seen as right-wing and many are not foreigner-friendly
Any fraternities tend to be quite weird
i mean i dont mind it if im not being hurt by it or not involved but hierchen mentioned them not being foreigner friendly so ill prolly not enjoy the time there
Just to be clear: There are also some WG in Germany that don't have a (shared) kitchen at all. In some cities it's common for landlords to turn every room of an apartment into rentable living space, including the kitchen. So there are "genuine" WGs where a normal apartment is shared between people, and these Pseudo-WGs set up by landlords. Some of those have kitchen, some don't.
When I was looking for a room in Münster ten years ago, I applied for some of those Pseudo-WGs and eventually ended up in one. I was lucky that in the annex of the building where I lived there was a shared kitchen. In the main building there were no kitchens at all, every tenant had to make room for cooking in their one room, most being about 15m² in size, some less. 18m² + 2m² bathroom were considered a full student apartment (to the landlords -.-) even back then (I saw a bathroom where you'd be able to brush your teeth, wash your hands and take a shower while not getting up from the toilet seat).
Alright applying for WGs sounds really scary now
I just wanted to point it out so you know how to ask the right questions and to judge for yourself.
It's easy to find out which one is which. If you have to apply with the tenants, it's always a "proper" WG. If you apply with the landlord, it may be either but in my experience it tends to be a Pseudo-WG. Also, if every room has its own bathroom-corner or every room has its own lock (the type you'd see at an apartment door), they're most likely "Pseudo-WG" (the term isn't official, it's just something I use to differentiate between the types).
Also both types of WG have their own pros and cons.
wth have never even heard of a WG without a kitchen. You would think cooking in your own room wouldn't be allowed (giant fire hazard!?). What will they think of next
yeah ive heard about wgs without a kitchen theyre quite popular actually
if its a one person apartment then it would really only be a landlord you speak with no?
If I understand your question correctly, then yes.
By the way, when I applied for a room, it was summer and really hot outside (for 10 years ago, I mean). One of those rooms where the tenant had to cook inside the room was on the fifth floor right under the roof. There was a sink in one corner and a section of the desk had a two-pot hotplate, and in the bookshelf there was one level with cooking ingredients and that was the "kitchen". That was in the main building of the complex where I rented.
Some people here seem to be under the impression that they're not getting rooms/apartments because they're foreigners. I can say that in some cities it's just that hard to find anything, regardless where you're from, especially if you want it to be even somewhat affordable. Well, if there are enough people trying to get in, and not enough room to rent, this is what the "free market" does.
Alright after hearing your perspective out I think I'll settle for a Studentverbindung WG
its much much cheaper and less the hassle tbh
one thing I found interesting was WG's bathrooms
some of them have doppelt sinks and bathtubs facing each other
not sure why I would want to be staring into my roommate's junk whils showering but you do you I guess?
Ok, this is new to me, too. -.-?
This is absolutely correct unfortunately. It took us half a year to find our current place. In Germany its very difficult for landlords to kick out tenants for any reason other than not paying rent so property management tends to be picking with renting out apartments.
The housing crisis is still worse in the Netherlands but despite living in a rural area we had to compete with quite a few other applicants for any place at a given time.
So I should look for an apartment months in advance before moving to germany?
yes, that should be obvious 😛
3-4 months at the least
If its WG the uni might aid in your search but its still very competitive
so basically i apply to a wg and another 1000 people do, basically like applying to a uni
if natives are having trouble finding housing how do you think it'll be for foreigners with little to no connections in the country? As Microsoft said, the more affordable student housing is particularly in high demand.
what would you consider a "connection"? having someone live in germany? knowing someone whos a landlord, knowing the people renting the room?
Yea having a friend or relative in the country certainly helps. We didn't need a schufa because my uncle who lives in the country vouched for us.
Yes it's a background check of your credit
alright i just researched it and my head hurts lol
Oh god
Im tryna search for a wg for summer next year in BERLIN
Im already shitting myself because of the stress
And its getting pricey
Feel like kmsing
I got a number to a landlord on wg gesucht but who knows how many people have contacted him
yup, artattack mentioned that
im looking for an apartment for my flight to germany in like a year and a half and its already stressful
thank god i have someone in the country to ease it up a bit
Dayum
I have an interview with a German company tomorrow and I had a quick question: do the Germans appreciate humor when speaking in a business formal setting? Or is it best avoided?
I think that really depends on the individual
what kind of humour? 👀
Hello, I'm from India and I have completed my highschool + I've been doing my college here at a regional college. I've had enough with this course so I'd like to either transfer my credits to a German university or start a fresh course. I've known that you must have 13 years of education for joining a university in German so students go for Studienkolleg but since I've already did a minimum 1 year of college am I eligible to apply for bachelor's in Germany?
Have you checked this? https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/plan-your-studies/admission-database/
Yes I have
It says that i can apply for subject restricted courses
But the course I want to do is an arts related one
I think in that scenario, the best option is to contact the uni you want to attend and ask them directly if you qualify.
What's a Schwerpunktkurs?
seems like it's a focus course
I see.
does anyone have any knowledge about the TEST-AS here ? I would like to ask a couple of questions
I need some help guys
I kind of want to call up a bunch of land lords
To ask them
but I don't really know enough German,
Should I ask someone to call on my behalf or try conversing in English??

Both don't seem like ideal choices. Depending on where you are trying to apply, the landlords might not even understand you if you're speaking English. Like, at all. On the other hand, it's not a great sign for a landlord if they can't even converse with their tenant for both obvious and maybe-not-quite-so obvious reasons.
Ich möchte über Buchhaltungsstipendiums wissen. Gibt es Stipendium oder nicht? Und was sind die Aufforderungen fürs Stipendium? Wo sind das Stipendium?
Danke im voraus
hi, did someone made the "dual studium" thing?
Hello, is there any international students doing their bachelor's in Germany if so then could you ping me? I'd like to clear some of my doubts.
Hey
How is dance in Germany as careers?
In terms of studios
Choreographers
Etc
Im gonna further in dance
Weißt jemand, welche Fragen in der Botschaft, um einem Ausbildungsvisum zu bekommen, gestellt werden?
hängt vom Land an, in welchem lebst du?

Kannst du mir den Namen dieser Gruppe geben?

when i fail the same study field 3 times in university, can i after that attrnd Berufschule ?
would double majoring sciences (zoology) with german help you with a job in a german speaking country and/or put you above, below or on the same level of native german graduates ?
bc i plan on double majoring zoology + german
as long as you can speak german, german employers don't really care if you majored in german. Unless you plan on doing a job to which that degree is relevant, ofc.
I see I see, but German employers would want you to speak B2 German at the very least right?
Thank you btw!
it depends on the job
but yeah, if you're going to be working in a german-speaking environment, you will definitely want B2/C1
I see. Thank you! 🙂 I think I plan on moving to a German speaking country and settling down there anyways so learning B2/C1 German is a life goal nonetheless
anyone preparing for testdaf, text me and we can together study
hello! i'm moving to germany in little over a week and is there anything major i should be prepared for
Check pinned messages, it may help
how was your experience finding a place to stay?
a few people I know have been really struggling with it recently, to the point where it became the biggest stress of the Umzug
Hello guys am new here and i want to move to Germany please someone should give me an adive
About anything specific?
How much would I be spending my first month in Germany? Burgeramt, fees, insurance, etc.
things that you have to pay for once when u get there
That would be really dependent on the place you are moving to. Some fees are set locally (I don't know if that would apply to you, though).
Do you include rent and related costs?
if anyone has flied with wizz
is it very expensive to check in a 26 or 32kg luggage at the airport
like will it cost more than 50ish
No rent is different
Wuerzburg
well for me it was easy, i am an erasmus student moving to würzburg and the student accomodation had rooms reserved for foreign students
so i cant comment much on what accomodation situations are like otherwise
Hello! Can I open a bank account in deutschland if im not currently based their?
Do you mean open bank account in Germany bank, even if you from another country..?
Yes and if im not living in German at the moment but I travel to Germany every couple of months for several weeks
Oh, in that case, I believe you can, but i think for opening the bank account you need to be there physically..(?)
Unless, the bank have the policy can open the bank account through online. But I don’t know much about it ..
Yes that's what they require when you want to travel there for studying btw
you need to make a closed bank account
put 10k in it
that need to be there yearly
to prove your financial needs are met
and once youre in germany you can open the acc
youre allowed a maximum each month tho
is Ausbildung the same as Berufschule
an Ausbildung is done at the Berufsschule
Hello guys
Really, I could see so many available on their official site? Which city ? 🤔
is there any international germany university with genetic engineering/genetics degree course?
Does this link work for you? https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/courses-of-study-in-germany/all-study-programmes-in-germany/?hec-q=Genetics&hec-studyType=i
What would happen if I fail the festellungspruefung?
You can repeat each semester of the Studienkolleg once
which official site btw?
is there an official website for living places for each city?
oh no its for uni
It’s at the end of the second semester of stk, right?
And you can repeat each semester once
I am not aware of how it is for external applicants
hello all anyone here can help me in learning masters of computer science in germany
I think its an exam im supposed to take before i get in uni? thats what DaaD insinuates
ye it works, thanks
I should have asked this before: Do you want to attend studienkolleg before this exam?
If yes, then you can repeat it once.
If not?
I don’t know then. Search external candidates / applicants fsp, maybe you will find something
Alright, thank you.
Is getting admission in a Public university as a international student easy or hard? In Germany
If your grades are fine then it should not be hard
Like what is the minimum percentage requirements for Bachelor's.
it depends on what you want to study
look up NC + yoursubjecthere
that will give you an idea of where your grades need to be
if the subject is 'NC-frei' then your grades don't matter
As @chrome mulch said, it depends on the subject you want to study and the university where you want to study. There are a lot of subjects where your grade average doesn't matter at all. And there are some fields (most famously medicine, psychology and related fields) where only a small portion of the (academically) very best students has the chance to even be admitted.
what does a 1.8 NC mean
Do you know how grading works in German schooling?
short version: if your grade is better than a 1,8 there's a good chance you could get accepted
and what would a 1.8 look like on a scale from 0% to 100%
As a percentage of correct answers, or as a percentage of students?
something like this
oh
whichever country you're in, you'll have to find some sort of conversion chart to the german system
Nice to know :D
I can get into my field with at least 80% damn
and depending on the specific country, you may need to get an extra certificate you have to pay for to get your grades legitimised
basically because every country's grading system is different
I wouldn't be complacent. 80-90% seems to be the range from 1.6-2.5. But 2.5 is way worse than 1.8. So I'd guess you'd have to be closer to 87-88%?
again it depends, 80% in germany and say 80% in the US are very different lol
basically just look at the conversion chart from your home country to german
Of course, yes. But I wanted to point it out nonetheless.

how much money do u need monthly realistically to study and live in dorms over there?
I am aiming for 95% because here if you get 95% you get a golden ID, meaning my entire family and I don't need to update it and go through that hassle for another 10 years
By "study abroad" do they mean in a different city in Germany or an entirely different country?
Usually they mean in another country. Now, I don't know which universities the one you are looking into is partnered with.
Anyone know where to get english speaking internship in Germany..?
Esp for social sciences major
Ausbildung?
In my case, I couldn't find any and it's most likely impossible.
I also have a question.
when is the tax exemption? (Based on salary in ausbildung)
DaaD allows you to search for english only stuff
I have a question if someone can answer me. I'll be really grateful
If I complete my B1 and get certification of it from Goethe Institute from my country. Will I have to give a test in Germany to prove my German efficiency or I can directly continue from B2 in Germany on the basis of my B1 Goethe Institute.
Studying abroad normally means in a different country
Which normally is mostly in English from my Experience
The course is in english so I suppose that would be in an english speaking country, like the UK or New Zealand
The Language of the Course doesn't influence the Location of the exchange, at least if the course is in German, I don't have further information for English courses on that.
May I know the course/ university? If I have that information I could maybe be more specific
FHWS
They've got partner universities in (more or less) all of EU and GB, USA, Taiwan, Russia, Nigeria, India, Colombia and Jordania
With most of them having English as the course language
But normally you can choose at which partner universities you want to do your study abroad
Oh that's good to know
May I dm you for a question?
I guess this is the wrong channel for translations sorry
ofc
I have a question if someone can answer me. I'll be really grateful
If I complete my B1 and get certification of it from Goethe Institute from my country. Will I have to give a test in Germany to prove my German efficiency or I can directly continue from B2 in Germany on the basis of my B1 Goethe Institute.
You should be able to continue with B2
But i guess it would depend on the institutes specifically
Ok Thanks 👍
I wanted to ask, how hard is it to acquire a new SIM in Germany? Can I get it immediately after I arrive there?
What documents will I require?
Also, which brands do you all prefer ?
Aldi talk, you just buy it off the counter at an aldi and then activate it
I'm not super sure what you need to activate it though
But i could get everything working within 24h of me arriving in germany for the first time so it couldn't be that bad
u do have to do some papers at the burgeramt no?
I didn't do burgeramt until about 3 days later because of covid termin booking
Hallo, muss man die Wasserrechnung und die Stromrechnung in einer WG bezahlen, oder es hängt von der WG ab?
es hängt von der WG ab
you'll have to do 2 main things as soon as you arrive in germany:
- Wohnung anmelden
- Aufenthaltskarte beantragen
The wohnung anmelden has to be done by the landlord and the aufenthaltskarte has to be done at a burgeramt right?
Irgendein Menschen hier wolltest du deine TestDaF Prüfung im November nehmen? Bitte antworten sie.... Ich suche ein Gespräch Partner von meiner mündlichen ausdrucken
..
Bitte schreiben sie mir
guten tag
no, you are responsible for Anmeldung at the Bürgeramt. Your landlord fills out a form that you take with you to that appointment. The stuff relating to Aufenthaltstitel you do at the Ausländerbehörde.
I recently bought the Aldi Talk sim, the only thing you need to activate it is your passport, super easy
Hey guys, I will be studying in germany this winter semester and have some problems regarding address. So I already got a Mietvertrag from STW where I will be living soon. But I have neither paid the kaution nor rent since I don't have this Sepa-Mandat thing. I don't have enough money either to pay kaution + rent now, since I have deposited a big chunk of my money to my sperrkonto.
My plan was to live in airbnb for a while while making myself a Bankkonto (Commerz) so that i can provide my STW this Sepa-Mandat thing. But I just heard from a friend that it wouldn't be possible since I would need to have a wohnung/an address first in order to be able to make a Bankkonto? Is it true? Do you guys know any other solutions to my problem?
I think for a prepaid card u dont need shit
but if u wanna get a sim with contract good luck
mediamarkt just basically told me to fuck off cause I had no residence permit yet
for contract tho...for prepaid easier
Ewww. I am not giving shit for anything. Such a disturbing mindset. 🤨
🤡
Thank you
Yeah in my experience you need to pay the deposit in order to actually secure the contract. And yes you'll need a letter from your landlord/hausmeister confirming the contract before you can open a bank account
you can buy sim cards at rewe or at o2 and vodafone outlets(not an exhaustive list) but after buying it you'll have to verify your identity.
As an Ausländer you have 2 options -
- Do a video call at your place of residence. You need to show your visa, passport and your nameplate on the door of the house you're living in.
- What I did(cuz I didnt have a permanent place to live) was I went to a Postfiliale. I went to DHL and you just need your passport in this case. After an hour or 2 my sim was activated.
Always keep your receipt of the sim card and the sim card packet nearby just in case. And passport, goes without saying
I'd say give N26 bank a try. Other banks require a Tax id as well, which you only get after doing your city registration. But N26 doesnt need one nor does it ask for your address. You will however have to go through their horrendous Identitätsverifikation process where you'll have to wait a long while till you get a bank employee on call
What you can also do is book an airbnb from your home country.
edit: actually n26 does ask for your address but you dont have to prove it afaik
That sounds a bit inconvenient tbh. But i’ll consider it, thank you. And have you heard of Wise?
yeaah but it didnt work out for me
But do give it a try
Do you mind telling me why? I too have researched about it and i don’t know, it just sounds very strange to me, the whole concept of it.
So the thing is, I dont have a Bankkonto here either. I'm using a forex card, linked to a bank in my home country.
I can't use Wise for a foreign bank account while staying in germany.
People who live outside germany though, should be able to transfer money internationally. For eg. my parents
Its really straightforward, someone outside germany can send money to german bank accounts.
yeah i have thought about that too and it could be helpful to be able to do that. The concept of not having a bank physically just doesnt sit right to me, especially if i have to put all my 11000 euro of sperrkonto in it.
maybe i'll do some more research this evening. thank you sm btw.
yeah I wouldnt recommend it either
Thank you
I have seen few examples in the internet and i am curious
Especially when they consider everyone as Auslanders 🤔
This and similar questions would be better suited for #archived-sensitive-topics
Keep in mind that drawing conclusions from examples on the news or similar can lead to biases, especially because they tend to focus on those cases, even if they are few. There will most likely be xenophobes and such everywhere, but it's not something that can be said in general about any group of people
I dont have this chat
You need to get a role in #850404908946423828
I havent had any issues atleast
i know this is a little too specific but is anyone renting in Ulm, perhaps possibly maybe not so far from the univeristy Tehnische Hochschule Ulm
i wonder if the reason why I'm not getting answers in wg-gesucht is because I dont attach any files
are you writing in german?
Hello guys, does anyone know what do traveller need to enter germany now..? Do we still need some kind of pcr test or vaccine certificate is enough..?
Is there any one who recently applied or got 39F Visa ?
german with mention that it's translated, plus original English below
https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/coronavirus/2317268
no requirements for the most part - but you can always check here for the latest information
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions for entry into Germany from areas of variant of concern apply. Persons entering these areas are required complete a digital entry registration, provide a negative test result and quarantine. Restrictions from other areas have been mostly lifted.
Thank you 🙌
Would running an online business in Germany while having it registered in the UAE for 0% taxes be illegal in any way?
Hello. Has anyone of you been through Studienkolleg? Or do you know someone who has, and would be willing to answer some doubts?
am i going to have to fight to speak german or will it be sort of common to be able to speak it freely
the way i'm moving over in 5 hours LOL
You'll have to insist because people either want to speak English to make it easier or in some region they want you to learn their dialect.
Basically no one speaks German
💀
where r u moving? 😂 in my experience in Germany you will be able to speak german. If someone switches to english after noticing you suck at german, just keep answering in german. Or mention that you would like to stay in german. People are for the most part all-too-happy to chatter in their native language.
Is there any discord server for international students/uni applicants in germany?
Also anyone in Göttingen?
lmk if u find any
studied there 10ish yrs ago
I'm in a server with a few other international students if anyone is interested just dm me
does 6 months of rent fall under short or long term?
@olive summit i cant dm you 😭
I've been looking for getting into studienkolleg for 2023 session but specifically in (GD-Kurs) as I've seen that being mentioned as an option but I am unable to find any Universities/Hochschule that provides it and is Public.
Ist that course only available in Private institutions?
Thank you so much in advance for your time.
Edit1: Also if I choose T-Kurs for my studienkolleg and then apply for B.A UI/UX, will it be accepted?
Write a mail to the Uni about this. They’ll surely help you.
the frame of reference is wg-gesucht's categories 😭
Is it about Kaution?
So what is the actual question? "Do you consider 6 months of rent much money (yes/no)?"
I'm trying to make a request ad for 6 months and it asks me to pick whether it's a long term or short term rent
i don't see how money os relevant
That's because I misunderstood you in your first post. I thought you were not posting yourself, but were looking through offers from other people. And you were trying to get your head around a question they wanted you to answer.
ah ok
so yea i kinda just slapped short term because im also open to 2-3 months
just need that anmeldung 😭
i know that theres quiet times in germany where youre not allowed to make any disturbing noises
im here at the moment, do you guys think id get into trouble for calling someone in my room? its almost 11pm and i dont want to get in trouble my first day here
Pretty sure that's law on sunday, but overall angry old people will call the police on disturbing noises
First day and already bringing girls home, love to see it
send me a dm
Hello, I cannot dm you, would you mind to invite me as well, thanks
add me
How does one differenciate between Private and Public univercities? I'm looking at list by DAAD and there seems to be no filter for that.
toggle the tuition fee filter. if it doesn't exist/is low, chances are it's public c:
private unis are often not recommended bec they're more for profit
that's what i was told at least
Yeah... that's why I'm specifically looking for public ones and filter them out
Is there a reason why you'd want to exclude public universities?
Pardon my wordings, I meant filter private ones out.
I,e I'm looking for public ones only.
what are you looking for applying ino
Bachelor's in Art/Design/Aesthetics
Not really per say, but I've got Berlin on my top preference
Since most crestive Studios are there and I will be helpful for my internships/ Jobs while studies.
oh i see
Leider nicht
do you need tk apply to a student visa?
:/
Yes
do you need to study in a Sprachschule first?
For foreign students like us who only have 12 years high school schooling, we need to do a 13th year in germany to fill the gap
It's called studienkolleg
Oh I see
It depends on your university entrance qualitifcation
the one in my country does not require a studienkolleg as long as your grades are above 12/20
Yeah, to get into Studienkolleg you need atleast B1/B2 level of goethe cerifi. and then pass Aufnahmeprüfung which is basically engeren test
Ja that's why im shortlisting all Unis and shooting an email once I'm done
I'm preparing for Winter session on 2023
Of*
the university entrance qualitifcation is the high school degree or such
you shouldn't send the unis email. just apply and in your application select that you need a studienkolleg
For Bachelor's I will need my high school degree + results of festestestellung (something I can never spell right) basically the exam at the end of studienkolleg
By emails I mean enquiry mails if that's a thing
Vielen dank ❤️
I WISH HAHA i just wanted to ring my friend from home but didnt want to risk literally getting arrested
i am 3 weeks into the apartment search and just now realized people are also putting 1 room apartment offers in the "Flats" section instead of the "1 zimmer Flats" section

If u never get the police called on you in germany your life is boring
Happens t the best of us
Hallo Leute, is there anyone who lives in München? I have few questions.
hello, i wanna move to germany. how much money should i bring with me? as of now im thinking about bringing around 3/4k euros
im from the EU too
Isn't it like 11k/year?
Hi I need help
I finished my B1 level recently and was looking for a Sprachschule in Germany. I was told by one I need B1+ before enrolling their B2 courses
But I don't want to
what?
That's what is written on my country's embassy idk abt EU countries
you should just check your country's embassy website
for how much money i should bring to germany when i move out?
Yes
I thought I could ask in the DM to people who agrees to have a conversation, instead of just making a crowd here but anyway gonna ask straight away...
I am having trouble contacting Landlords and also, some of them asking me to pay before I see the house. And if I don't like the apartment, they say that they will give my money back. My payment would be on some Websites which we know well. I am confused. How does that work? How can I trust them?
dont trust any landlord who says they'll let you see the house if you pay them
its a scam most of the time
Only pay after you have arrived.
Sun Tzu once said, "Paying after receiving the keys is half the battle"
the other half is finding an apartment
which I am currently absolutely failing at
😭
The art of die wg
Hey guys, I'll be arriving in Germany (Frankfurt airport) next week for my study. I'll be meeting my friends in Hannover. But until then, I'll be all alone. A couple bits of advice or directions on what I'm supposed to do would be nice. One of my friends offered to book me ahead a db ticket to avoid paying too much, should I be doing that considering there's a chance of the flight getting delayed or sth?
I book my tickets (and reservations for seats) as far in advance as possible because it’s cheaper to do so.
Does the reservation for seat only available in class 1 ?
It’s available for all classes; anyone can reserve a seat (provided seats are reservable on that train)
here's a video about german that's actually really cool
Can anyone inform me on dance careers in Germany because it's my passion and sadly google doesn't give me any info
For hip-hop atleast
more apartment hunt discoveries, if you're not responding <10 minutes your chances of a response go from 50% to 1%
the smiley house in wg-gesucht was lying to me when it showed a slight smile
Weirdly specific question but -- I ordered a schufa from meineschufa.de, it's on its way by mail. But I got an apartment viewing sooner than expected, and the guy sent me the application paperwork and asked me to send it back with all the relevant forms (including, of course, a current schufa). I have everything else, but my schufa has not arrived in the mail yet.
I know there are plenty of other people looking at this apartment, so I worry if I wait a couple days for my schufa to arrive by mail, I'll lose any chance. But ofc I know I'll also definitely not get the place if I send my forms without a schufa. Does anybody know of any stopgap solution I could use that would potentially keep me in the running? or am I boned? idk what the best choice to make at this point is.
Has anyone given the TestAS exam? Could you share your experience here?
anybody here lives in munich?
will be moving next month but i cant find a room to move
so im planning to get my aufenthaltsgenehmigung and then switch to hamburg, but im not sure how much i have to wait for that
Are there many students clubs and events and social activities in German universities (for german speaking students?)
hello! do you need to have an ielts when applying for Studienkolleg and what is the minimum proficientcy level for deutsch that you need to have?
IELTS is not required if the Studienkolleg is in German. On paper, you at least need a Goethe B1 Certificate in most Studienkollegs, but having B2 is safer, both certificate-wise and you properly understanding the contents of the STK. Just google Studienkolleg application requirements and you'll find the data on their official website.
ohh i see, thank you very much for answering my question!
back home in ireland my german lecturer told us in preparation for erasmus that theres very few, if any, clubs / society events, activities in german universities
he said it was something to do with the fact since university is free and theres no funds really to go towards them
idk though
back in ireland theres hundreds of university funded things
look for fachschafts, they usually have events organised in my uni at least
I see
What about other countries then
Like
Maybe you know something about French/Italian/Czech public universities? Or no idea
Damn 😦 tbh its discouraging me from learning German, bc my reason to learn German is to go to a German university but if it's just studying and studying and nothing else really then it's kinda futile for me
How much is tuition in Ireland
