I've been interested in astronomy and physics since I was a little kid

I'm also interested in computers, and I spend a lot of time messing with them

I've already committed myself to Informatik as my Studienfach, but I still dream of one day learning more about the stars and the universe

The only problem is that I really hate math. It seems like an insurmountable barrier separating me from deeper knowledge in physics and cosmology

On the other hand, I was able to learn German, which was the most difficult academic pursuit of my entire life. If I can do that, then I have to be capable of learning math. Maybe I could even become good at it

But I failed calculus 1 twice in the US

That's true. Staying motivated is what really held me back in the past. But learning German has changed my perspective. I want to put the same level of effort I gave learning German into every academic pursuit lying ahead of me. The most difficult part is to remind myself that the only thing holding me back is myself, and not to become demotivated because I don't believe I can do it.

anyway, from this it seems to me like the problem mostly lies in the understanding side. it’s entirely possible that e.g. you thought you understood some things, then maybe didn’t pay quite enough attention and suddenly lost it

and the problem with classes is of course they move on

in my opinion to each (at least more elementary) math subject, there’s something like three aspects

there’s the applications side, e.g. calculating integrals, solving equations etc… also implementing algorithms on a computer

there’s the understanding. often mathematical topics offer very deep and interesting visual interpretations, but not every teacher is good at delivering those (for this, I recommend watchign some of threeblueonebrown’s videos!)

and there’s the theory. that is, not only understanding the material, but also convincing yourself that it is correct. this is usually completely ignored until universities, and I hear that in america it is postponed even further usually

I like it rather simple really. Pasta + ragout + basil + parmigiano/grana padano (if you can get your hands on those. Not parmesan, that's different and it's shit)

of course make sure to salt the water well enough when it reaches the boiling point, before putting pasta in it

basil is optional imo, but even if it's just minced it's fine

i don't think there's anything in particular against salting the water afterwards but it's generally easier (because you don't have salt getting stuck among the pasta, though normally it's going to dissolve anyway) and in general it's more likely to be evenly distributed

in absence of fresh one sure, just stir it into the pasta while you mix it with the ragout after drying it from cooking it, instead of putting a leaf on top of it

as for the ragout, you can take raw tomato sauce, boil it on low heat then add a bit of olive oil, a pinch of salt and mix in minced meat. You can add the basil here if you want

then after the pasta is done, what I do is grate some parmigiano in fine specs and mix it in with the ragout, then before serving shave some bigger specs of parmigiano and put a basil leaf on it if i have one

you cook it with the sauce

you can put some thyme in if you want. I don't think it's usually done, even though I like it. Oregano is also a possibility but I don't like to overload the sauce

bonus: when the pasta is done, drain it, put it back in the pot, add ragout and mix it in as I described above while on low heat

the "before serving" part is for after the pasta has gone from the pot to the individual plates

of course if you're doing the ragout yourself, you need enough time for the meat to be cooked inside the sauce. This could require you to add some extra water but don't overdo it or it'll be rather watery and that's unpleasant. It takes more time than to boil meat in just water so keep that in mind

also if you do this, you cna add the olive oil right away or later on but only add the spices when it's almost done

@tired scarab teachers in goethe explain stuff nicely and going to a class forces you to do homeworks (unless it’s a class full of adults cuz adults never do homeworks) but there are cons too like you have to learn at the same pace as everybody, lessons are not that often and you dont get to speak too often cuz there’s a lot of people

@tired scarab i guess you could try looking for online courses, there's probably some free ones too, something on sistes like edx (if they even do stuff like languages there, but anyway there's tonnes of websites for online courses). I'm doing one for maths stuff and it really motivates me and teaches me a lot. Imo it has the same stimuli as a live one including the homework they give you. If you feel the need for somethign structured you can hopefully find something like that.

I googled it and apparently for pasta salad and stir-fries, you want to rinse it.

Ah, here is another reason: if you are putting noodles into a soup, you want to make sure they don't overcook. If you rinse them between cooking and serving, you stop them from cooking temporarily.
