ocean robin
#

Or sein. Whatever it is.

#

I wanted to do that but failed. thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

because the sentence wasn't written in past perfect

#

🤔

ocean robin
#

🤔

#

"Were chirping" thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

yep

ocean robin
#

WAIT.

#

SHOOT.

cold vessel
#

Isn't that past continous? Which doesn't actually exist in German

pine ginkgo
#

yep

ocean robin
#

AH.

pine ginkgo
#

but you can translate it to präteritum or perfekt most times anyway

#

depending on what you prefer

ocean robin
#

so that's it mmmh 🤔

pine ginkgo
#

okay

#

another note again for you

#

alsis used for past when, wennis used for other whens

ocean robin
#

oh yeah damn you already said that :(

pine ginkgo
#

it's alright

fair iron
#

When (if) this, then that.

ocean robin
pine ginkgo
#

that's for the conditional when

fair iron
#

Wenn dies, dann das.

pine ginkgo
#

:)

fair iron
#

^^

ocean robin
#

Ooooh.

pine ginkgo
#

okay now explain to me

#

how you picked traf an

ocean robin
#

well I saw antreffen thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

where 🤔

ocean robin
pine ginkgo
#

really 🤔

fair iron
#

Knew it. ^^

ocean robin
#

yes i swear thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

what did you search for?

ocean robin
#

Wait no.

#

Antroffen.

pine ginkgo
#

what term did you search for

#

to find antreffen

fair iron
#

^

ocean robin
#

damn that was typo again D:

pine ginkgo
#

still

#

i want to know what typo you made

#

to find it

ocean robin
#

i think it's because I saw antreffen, so I search the past tense for it

#

and got traf

pine ginkgo
#

how did you find

#

antreffen

fair iron
#

^ ^ ^

ocean robin
#

I found antroffen but saw antreffen D:

pine ginkgo
#

WHICH TERM DID YOU USE

#

TO SEARCH

fair iron
#

After searching for what?

ocean robin
#

WHOA.

#

To struck. thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

to... struck?

fair iron
#

Ah.

#

To *strike.

ocean robin
#

slowly facepalms

pine ginkgo
#

it still doesn't give you antreffen though

ocean robin
#

No, antroffen.

pine ginkgo
#

nope

ocean robin
#

🤔

fair iron
#

^^

pine ginkgo
#

antroffen is not even a real word

ocean robin
#

when you forget that to strike is an irregular verb

#

stabbed in the back

pine ginkgo
#

anyway

#

you can look at to struck again

ocean robin
#

sure wait

pine ginkgo
#

and see that there is no antreffen

viscid cape
#

@pine ginkgo Do you think it's impossible to use 'wenn' referring to the past?

ocean robin
#

yes ;_:

fair iron
#

To struck, Solet? 😛

ocean robin
#

LOL

pine ginkgo
#

yes

#

you can search for it casca

viscid cape
#

I can think of counterexamples, but I don't know if they're natural

ocean robin
#

STOP NOW

pine ginkgo
#

it even gives you results :)

ocean robin
#

OMG

pine ginkgo
#

though it thinks it's passive voice

fair iron
#

Why would you turn a conjugation into an infinitive. That hurts my head. :(

ocean robin
#

And then I question myself "am I really C1 in English?"

#

And... I don't know Casca. I just didn't know it was that verb and didn't recognize it, even if I knew the meaning. kappa

pine ginkgo
#

@viscid cape mhh, not sure about "Impossible", but i can't think of any, where it would work at the moment

viscid cape
#

I thought of 'Immer wenn ich meine Oma besucht habe...' or 'Jedes Mal, wenn ich meine Oma besucht habe....'

opal sequoia
#

I read somewhere that "wenn" can be used for things in the past that were not just a singular event.

viscid cape
#

Does that work?

#

Yes @opal sequoia exactly

pine ginkgo
#

oh, yeah that works

viscid cape
#

Alright good, thanks

ocean robin
#

but solet don't tell me there was only 5 mistakes in that sentence

#

:0

fair iron
#

Wenn wir uns die Schlacht angucken [...]. Hehe. ^^

ocean robin
#

*were kappa

viscid cape
#

@fair iron Is that a quote :v

pine ginkgo
#

well

#

the sentence isn't very complex

#

so 5 mistakes are quite a lot already

ocean robin
#

:v

#

sed

pine ginkgo
#

gotta say though, i am not sure how far people are in grammar when they are talking about their levels

fair iron
#

Not a quote, no.

pine ginkgo
#

also

ocean robin
#

I dunno, Solet, wat do you think about mine? thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

a lot of your mistakes come from typos and reading the dictionary wrong

ocean robin
#

:/

pine ginkgo
#

so it's hard to say anything about your german prowess

ocean robin
#

Damn :/

pine ginkgo
#

it was also quite funny

opal sequoia
#

Yep, you have to start doing your own writing and speaking more, Flappy!

pine ginkgo
#

how you thought were chirping was past perfect and was shining in the part before was fine

fair iron
#

If you'd feel more comfortable speaking privately, let us know.

ocean robin
#

I will see when I'll have the time.

pine ginkgo
#

oh, i know my way of correcting and teaching people can be intimidating

ocean robin
#

And Base, that means I could do another writing?

#

Hell no Solet it is funny as hell.

pine ginkgo
#

but that's because i want to point see how people were thinking, when they do mistakes, to see if it's just carelessness or a deeper misunderstanding

#

cause i think for you

opal sequoia
#

Another writing would be good, but typing more in chat is even better.

pine ginkgo
#

most times you don't really think about how you are translating

fair iron
#

You're a lovely teacher, Solet. ❤

pine ginkgo
#

since you answer most questions correctly

ocean robin
#

I agree. ❤

pine ginkgo
#

so sometimes i asked myself, how you made the mistakes

#

when you know yourself, they are wrong

ocean robin
viscid cape
#

"The sun was shining brilliantly and the birds were chirping loudly and charmingly, when the ban hammer struck with roaring thunder." Are you really saying this wasn't a complex sentence? FeelsBadMan

pine ginkgo
#

but that's from the point of a corrector

ocean robin
#

I KNOW RIGHT

pine ginkgo
#

admittedly, as i said before, i am a terrible judge of complexness

#

but the sentence basically is

#

the main clause is super simple

viscid cape
#

I wouldn't know how to translate half of it :v lol

pine ginkgo
#

i don't count for vocabulary issues tbh

ocean robin
#

Does A2 write sentences like dat? thinking_cat

#

Well if we see grammar yes

fair iron
#

Between the simplest and hardest of sentences, this was somewhere in the middle.

pine ginkgo
#

you have the same structure for both parts in the main clause

#

though i was wondering if you knew how to translate past progressive

#

🤔

#

i can give you that there

ocean robin
#

YEAH.

pine ginkgo
#

but it was just past progressive + adverbs

ocean robin
#

mhm

pine ginkgo
#

base is a better at choosing suitable sentences

opal sequoia
#

Some less familiar concepts but a simple sentence.

pine ginkgo
#

since he knows better about limits :D

opal sequoia
#

Thanks. 😄

ocean robin
#

but eh, you are better teacher than the ones who are in my school :v

viscid cape
#

@pine ginkgo Clearly read Goethe und Mann her whole childhood to think that was simple.

#

🙄

ocean robin
#

*teachers

#

DAAMN PHONE.

hot cloak
#

ehm error is Fehlen or Fehler ? and what gender is this noun?

pine ginkgo
#

i mean krypti

#

it was just past progressive + adverbs

#

not sure what is complex about that

viscid cape
#

Just teasing

opal sequoia
#

Do you want complex?

ocean robin
#

hoyl

fair iron
#

Her whole childhood. 😄

ocean robin
#

🤔

#

Did he correct something?

fair iron
#

Solet isn't a she. ^^

ocean robin
#

LOL

viscid cape
#

his*

ocean robin
#

Oh hee was speaking about Solet upside_cat

pine ginkgo
#

The man walked into the forest to search for his wife with his dogs.

ocean robin
#

GOD.

#

WAIR I CAN DO THIS.

#

YEAH.

#

THAT'S THE SPIRIT FLOPS.

pine ginkgo
#

you can always ask about grammatical sentence structures

#

if you don't know them

fair iron
#

This is why I always refer to you in an ambiguous fashion, Solet. Don't want to spoil the surprise. ^^

pine ginkgo
#

well, i don't correct it anyway

ocean robin
#

but look at his hair

#

byoutiful

pine ginkgo
#

at one point they always will notice

viscid cape
#

'with his dogs' is ambiguous though, who is with the dogs?

ocean robin
#

The man :v

fair iron
#

Or the wife.

ocean robin
#

dang yeah

pine ginkgo
#

hehe

ocean robin
#

Both maybe lul

pine ginkgo
#

you can do both if you like

viscid cape
#

^

pine ginkgo
#

but take the one that makes most sense for you

viscid cape
#

You can thank me later @ocean robin

ocean robin
#

YEAH THANKS

opal sequoia
#

It wouldn't be likely to be written like that if it was the wife who was with the dogs. You would typically phrase it differently.

viscid cape
pine ginkgo
#

yeah

fair iron
#

I'd phrase it like that if it caused confusion. 🙃

viscid cape
#

@opal sequoia I only speak Lojban sorry

pine ginkgo
#

the withkinda sounds very weird if it referred to the wife

viscid cape
opal sequoia
#

Search for "his wife with his dogs" as one item. 😄

pine ginkgo
#

it works :D

#

but still sounds weird 🤔

hot cloak
#

Der mann ging in den Wald zu suchen seine Frau mit sein Hunde boh i tried to translate that

#

it's correct?

pine ginkgo
#

nope

fair iron
#

No, sorry.

hot cloak
#

too hard xD

pine ginkgo
#

you translated it way too literally

#

as in the word structure

fair iron
#

Up to Wald was good.

pine ginkgo
#

also i think you said you had just recently started learning, so i think it's impossible for you to know the grammatical structure for this sentence

#

🤔

opal sequoia
#

Are you new to German, Enrico?

hot cloak
#

suchen should be at the end maybe?

fair iron
#

That'd be best.

opal sequoia
#

If you are interested in practicing too, we can give you some sentences that fit what you're learning now.

fair iron
#

^

viscid cape
#

German would be able to distinguish both possibilities using a genitive demonstrative pronoun instead of a possessive no?

hot cloak
#

boh i started like 2 weeks ago

ocean robin
#

Der Mann ging in den Wald, für seinen Hunde und seine Frau zusuchen.

#

🤔

fair iron
#

Fast.

#

Aber nicht ganz.

pine ginkgo
#

it's alright, if you can't translate this, enrico, don't worry about it

ocean robin
#

OMG.

fair iron
#

Wieso für?

#

(All before the comma was correct.)

ocean robin
#

For?

hot cloak
#

flappers where are you from?

fair iron
#

And why for?

viscid cape
#

That's french interference probably 😂

hot cloak
#

probably

#

or french or italian

fair iron
#

French.

#

Lovely Flappy is from 🇫🇷 . ❤

hot cloak
#

here we say : io lavoro per comprare il pane ---> i work to buy the bread

#

sometimes per = to

#

but not always

pine ginkgo
#

the thing is

#

the verb is "to search for"

#

so you have to translate "to search for"

#

not "to search" and "for"

fair iron
#

^

hot cloak
#

ok but now someone can please translate it correctly

#

xD

fair iron
#

Let's give Flappy a chance.

pine ginkgo
#

if flappsy hasn't gone AWOL 🤔

ocean robin
#

Mmmmh

viscid cape
#

@pine ginkgo probably scared her off with his military discipline

fair iron
#

There she is. ^^

ocean robin
#

To search for thinking_cat

twilit garden
#

für can only take nouns as an object

ocean robin
#

Wait.

#

Zu zusuchen?

pine ginkgo
#

no

fair iron
#

No.

ocean robin
#

Damn. 🤔

pine ginkgo
#

we are still at why you wrote for

#

🤔

#

eh

#

für

ocean robin
#

because french manners kappa

fair iron
#

^^

pine ginkgo
#

so what happens if you start using german manners 🤔

ocean robin
#

🤔

hot cloak
#

Der Mann ging in den Wald mit seinem Hunde seine Frau zu suchen

#

?

#

2 attempt

fair iron
#

Nein.

hot cloak
#

=__=

fair iron
#

*Mann.

pine ginkgo
#

seems like flappers doesn't know the grammatical structure either

#

🤔

ocean robin
#

🤔

fair iron
#

Shall we reveal it, or wait?

cold vessel
#

Do you need um ... zu here?

ocean robin
#

DAMN.

pine ginkgo
#

well, too late, casca

#

i guess

ocean robin
#

I KNOW I KNEW THAT.

#

but didn't realize that

fair iron
#

Does anyone object to me sharing the translation?

pine ginkgo
#

sure, go ahead

#

you are a suitable translation giver

ocean robin
#

OBJECTION!

fair iron
#

Der Mann ging in de(n/m) Wald, um mit seinen Hunden nach seiner Frau zu suchen.

ocean robin
#

No, go hehe

#

Dem.

#

I knew it.

#

But why dem.

pine ginkgo
#

mhh

#

both work

#

depending on what you want to say

ocean robin
#

And nach?

fair iron
#

I've added both.

ocean robin
#

Why nach?

pine ginkgo
#

i think i said "Into the forest" though

#

🤔

fair iron
#

To search after someone.

#

That's how we say it.

pine ginkgo
#

flappsy

ocean robin
#

AH.

pine ginkgo
#

try to look up

#

"to search for"

fair iron
#

^

hot cloak
#

=_____= impossible hahaha

ocean robin
pine ginkgo
#

yeps

#

also flappsy

fair iron
#

The middle one.

pine ginkgo
#

you know why zusuchen is wrong?

ocean robin
#

GOD IT'S WRONG

#

Zu suchen?

pine ginkgo
#

well

#

yes

#

you remember

#

what the people told you

#

when you asked about it earlier

ocean robin
#

wat

#

oh yeah

pine ginkgo
#

you only fuse it into one word, when...?

ocean robin
#

Like auszuruhen?

#

mmmh

pine ginkgo
#

yes

#

so when...?

ocean robin
#

participle verbs

#

wait that's not the word for that

#

Seperable verbs with aus

pine ginkgo
#

lol

#

close

fair iron
#

Almost. ^^

pine ginkgo
#

your own example for it earlier

ocean robin
#

Mmmh 🤔

pine ginkgo
#

contradicts your explanation

ocean robin
#

AH.

#

THAT'S REALLY GOOD.

pine ginkgo
#

so what's the explanation, flappsy?

fair iron
#

Pray tell. ^^

ocean robin
#

In the middle of a seperable verb, after aus.

pine ginkgo
#

...

#

how did you come up with that?

fair iron
#

^^

ocean robin
#

🤔

hot cloak
#

I don't even know what is a separable verb with aus ahahha

fair iron
#

Auszuruhen.

ocean robin
#

auszuruhen.

pine ginkgo
#

flappsy

#

do you remember

#

the word you asked about

#

earlier

#

that started all this

ocean robin
#

nach suchen?

fair iron
#

Antroffen? ^^

pine ginkgo
#

zuzusehen

ocean robin
#

LMAO STOP

pine ginkgo
#

it seems your mind was really blown

ocean robin
#

oh yeah

pine ginkgo
#

if you forgot that

#

even though you said your mind was blown

ocean robin
#

Wait.

#

WAIT.

pine ginkgo
#

either it had a real big impact

#

or none at all :(

ocean robin
#

DON'T TELL ME IT'S ANOTHER THING LIKE THAT.

#

Zusehen is to watch.

opal sequoia
#

@hot cloak In German there are verbs that have a prefix attached. When you use that verb in certain ways, the prefix is written seperately. You can think of it similarly to verbs in English that have a preposition, like "to pick up". When you say "He picked it up" the "up" goes to the end. And in German, they have some verbs that work a little bit similar to that. Different but similar.

ocean robin
#

Zuzusehen is "to watch"

#

mmmh

#

mmmh

hot cloak
#

what is the difference between Zuzusehen and Schauen?

ocean robin
#

Schauen? thinking_cat

pine ginkgo
#

okay, flapssy

#

it only works when the verb is seperable

opal sequoia
#

The verb is "zusehen", Enrico. 😄

fair iron
#

To view vs to watch. ^

pine ginkgo
#

and you should try to remember the explanation, if you ask about it

opal sequoia
#

Don't worry about what zuzusehen is for now.

hot cloak
#

@opal sequoia ah ok

#

i read the explaination u gave me of separable verbs

opal sequoia
#

It's a bit confusing because you have to learn it one step at a time. First, you have to know how simple verbs work, then you learn about verbs with prefixes, and different tenses (past/present/future), and lots of other things.

#

But one thing at a time.

hot cloak
#

i studied in regular and irregular verbs the tenses : present,präterite,Perfekt, and the future construction using werden what i should learn now?

#

hmmmm

opal sequoia
#

That's pretty good. You can use all that?

hot cloak
#

i guess yes but i do not know many words i focused more on verbs xD

opal sequoia
#

That's okay. Verbs are pretty important in German anyway.

hot cloak
#

i studied a list of most 50 used verbs plus other 30 verbs i found

#

i counted them so i edited

opal sequoia
#

Well, rather than learning anything new, you should try doing a lot of practice for a while.

#

Or at least focus on that.

hot cloak
#

hmm good idea so at least i won't forget those coniugations

opal sequoia
#

Exactly.

hot cloak
#

gimme a sentence! 😄

#

a simple one xD

opal sequoia
#

Hmm. Well, is @ocean robin still there?

hot cloak
#

i also need to practice all those cases

opal sequoia
#

I was going to say, it might be a good idea for Flappy to give you a sentence and then see if she can tell if you're right. Good practice for both people.

#

Cases are pretty important too, yeah. 😄

hot cloak
#

if She ? so it's a girl?

opal sequoia
#

I would help you practice now but I'm pretty tried at the moment.

#

Yeah, she is.

hot cloak
#

i found a set of flashcards for the most 100 used adjectives

whole rapids
#

lol "it's a girl"

hot cloak
#

ahahha small error

#

i was too lazy to edit

opal sequoia
#

That's good too. But make sure you don't learn only vocab. You need to always make sure you can use it too.

whole rapids
#

np just sounds funny

opal sequoia
#

Just wanted to mention that because some people learn tons and tons of vocab and can't even write a sentence.

#

You have to practice every part of the language though.

whole rapids
hot cloak
#

hmm seems interesting thanks @whole rapids

whole rapids
#

Yeah, I made that mistake initially, trying to learn too much vocab. It's better to learn new words in context, I have found.

opal sequoia
#

If you go to #resources and look in the list linked there, there's a section with practice exercises. Those are excellent, especially for A level learners.

hot cloak
#

ok thanks horse 🐴 and thanks Basementality

whole rapids
#

Like, I'll probably remember that "swamp" is "Sumpf" because I keep seeing it in my book now and it's a rather important place

#

in the book that is

opal sequoia
#

Any time. 😄

#

I agree. Learning from reading, talking to people, movies, stuff like that, works really well.

ocean robin
#

Whoa. I must give a sentence?

#

Wait a minute and I am there.

opal sequoia
#

Hi Flappy.

#

If you want to give one to Enrico.

hot cloak
#

i don't know why but sometime i hear this while learning

#

the first ambient track is wonderful

ocean robin
#

I will, just let ke think of something...

#

*mr

#

*me 👀

#

"The man gave to the dog a ball." Easy one.

#

@hot cloak

hot cloak
#

ok i'm back

#

now i translate

ocean robin
#

:D

opal sequoia
#

The man gave a ball to the dog, Flappy.

ocean robin
#

Oh yeah, sorry. :0

opal sequoia
#

No problem. 😄

cold vessel
#

Well, or "The man gave a ball to the dog"

hot cloak
#

Der Mann hat dem Hund einen Ball gegeben

ocean robin
#

Actually, that kind of sentence workds for French.

hot cloak
#

wait

opal sequoia
#

Yes, that's what I wrote, henbruas. thinking_cat

ocean robin
#

What is the tense you should use?

#

Prefekt works though.

#

*perfekt

hot cloak
#

i read that in spoken german it's perfekt

#

in write can be both

cold vessel
#

@opal sequoia Whoah. I totally read your sentence sa "The man gave the dog a ball" in my head 😮

ocean robin
#

And whay is the another one?

opal sequoia
#

Oh, haha, that makes sense. 😄

#

And you're right, Enrico. Perfekt is for normal speaking and all that.

#

Simple past is usually for story-telling, novels, stuff like that.

hot cloak
#

but when you talk to something that was happening is usually praterite

#

or simple past

ocean robin
#

Let me search your mistakes.

opal sequoia
#

Yep.

viscid cape
#

I was thinking of making @ocean robin this Discord's official mascot.

#

🤔

ocean robin
#

#

Why that? 🤔

#

I can't see mistakes though, dative and accusative are correct

hot cloak
#

there is a mistake

#

you said A

#

i used the definite article

#

wait i correct

ocean robin
#

🤔

#

True.

hot cloak
#

corrected

ocean robin
#

And whay is the indefinite article for der?

#

*what god

hot cloak
#

ein and einen for den

ocean robin
#

Einen. Good. :D

hot cloak
#

😄

ocean robin
#

Now it's all correct! 🎉

hot cloak
#

another sentence :3

ocean robin
#

Mmmh.

#

Harder?

hot cloak
#

another one like this first

#

then harder

ocean robin
#

Oki dokie

#

"The girl went to the town to buy candy."

opal sequoia
#

That's a hard one. 😄

ocean robin
#

👀

#

Oh yeah to buy owo

opal sequoia
#

You try to translate it, Flappy, once Enrico tries.

ocean robin
#

Before or after him?

opal sequoia
#

After.

hot cloak
#

Das Mädchen ist zur Stadt zu kaufen Süßigkeiten gegangen

#

boh i don't know if it's correct

ocean robin
#

*das Mädchen

#

And why zur?

#

Zu der?

#

I would have said in der Stadt though

#

And it's "zu kaufen gegangen"

#

wait.

#

Yes, that's it.

opal sequoia
#

Is it?

hot cloak
#

well i totally suck then aahhaa

#

give me the correct one

ocean robin
#

I think there's still. Wait.

#

mmmh he did well with using sein

hot cloak
#

: ) that's because in italian we say sono andato to say i went

ocean robin
#

WAIT.

#

SHE GOES IN THE TOWN.

#

IT'S NOT DATIVE.

#

IT'S ACCUSATIVE.

opal sequoia
#

Yes. 😄

ocean robin
#

woooo

#

So, in die Stadt eheh

opal sequoia
#

What's the whole sentence, Flappy?

hot cloak
#

but isn't Zu an only dative preposition ?

#

then it would be wrong to use zu

ocean robin
#

Why zu first?

#

You wanted to say "to the" right?

hot cloak
#

yes

ocean robin
#

In this case

#

Wai, nevermind, I was just going to say "nach die Stadt gehen" thinking_cat

#

Or is it bei Stadt? 🤔

#

Wait that I check this.

#

Because in French, those 2 cases have names. Idk about English though.

#

No, it's in die Stadt, so full sentence:

sudden panther
#

Do use in die Stadt gehen, yes.

shy bobcat
#

^

ocean robin
#

"Die Mädchen ist in die Stadt Süßigkeiten zu kaufen gegangen."

opal sequoia
#

Not quite.

ocean robin
#

Wait.

#

That I found typo. 👀

#

Typos are everywhere.

sudden panther
#

Let's try phrasing that candy part with um...zu, since she went to the city in order to buy candy.

hot cloak
#

__< wtf how a simple phrase it's so hard?

ocean robin
#

Ah.

opal sequoia
#

Oh, does Flappy not know "um ... zu" yet?

sudden panther
#

She does, she's just a meme. ❤

opal sequoia
#

Oh, then I was waiting to see if she'll figure it out. 😄

sudden panther
#

Sorry for spoiling your fun. 😦

opal sequoia
#

It's okay. 😢

#

But it means you have to repay us with a new sentence.

#

Once Flappy writes the sentence correctly.

ocean robin
#

Mmmmh.

hot cloak
#

Das mädchen ist in die Stadt um Süßigkeiten zu kaufen gegangen

#

?

#

no wait

opal sequoia
#

You forgot something.

ocean robin
#

*Mädchen. Capital letter, plox.

hot cloak
#

?

#

gegangen?

ocean robin
#

I am going to say "you forgot the dot."

opal sequoia
#

Das Mädchen ist in die Stadt gegangen, um Süßigkeiten zu kaufen.

hot cloak
#

fk i was close

ocean robin
#

that comma 👀

opal sequoia
#

Zu-clauses go at the end, seperated by a comma.

#

Yeah, you did a good job, Enrico!

#

See why it's a hard sentence now, Flappy? 😄

ocean robin
#

Now Arrem. Sentence. mmlol

sudden panther
#

The gegangen is a part of the first clause and should be grouped with it, so it does go at the end, but at the end of the first clause, before the comma/second clause.

hot cloak
#

ok understood

ocean robin
#

Damn yeah hard sentence dat

#

But I ma quite happy to have figured that die Stadt was accusative tho

sudden panther
#

Oke Flaps, go: Invitation friendship travelling eat everything the out two, shy you who scarcely expenses debating hastened resolved.

ocean robin
#

*am.

but

ocean robin
#

OR I DO THE SAME WITH FRENCH ARREM

sudden panther
#

IDK. Ask Base for a real one. 😦

hot cloak
#

why you can not use zu ?

ocean robin
#

Awww.

sudden panther
#

Joke's on you. I don't speak French either way. 😂

opal sequoia
#

You can use zu sometimes.

sudden panther
#

Where can't you use zu?

hot cloak
#

zur Stadt?

ocean robin
#

Because gehen actually say that you go in the town.

opal sequoia
#

into*

ocean robin
sudden panther
#

No idea. I don't think there are particular rules for prepositions.

hot cloak
#

?

#

so it is possible to use zur?

ocean robin
#

Ask to natives. Where is Solet.

sudden panther
#

@hot cloak Hey you smelly nerdo. Why is it in die Stadt and not zur Stadt and is the second one possible at all? ❤

gusty grove
#

Wouldn't a zu-form require wollen or suchlike as auxillary?

hot cloak
#

It depends on her current location

sudden panther
#

Learning time bois.

opal sequoia
#

Ich gehe zur Stadt, um etwas zu kaufen?

hot cloak
#

"In die Stadt" implies that shes going to the centre of the city, whereas "zur Stadt" suggests that she's living outside of the city and therefore has to drive directly to it

ocean robin
#

Ah. thinking_cat

opal sequoia
#

Makes sense.

ocean robin
#

The 2 are correct then.

hot cloak
#

viscid cape
#

@hot cloak Wouldn't you say Stadtzentrum or Innenstadt to mean the former?

Only if you need to clarify

#

Otherwise we guess by context

viscid cape
#

It's the power of the Penguin.

ocean robin
#

I am almost a grammar nazi for French.

#

I am joking.

hot cloak
#

Then again, "in die Stadt" does not always mean that you're going to the centre. It's just usually how it is. Sometimes you just need to imply that you're going to city X which would be equal to "zur Stadt" but "zur Stadt" is rather general and we prefer "in die Stadt" to imply the former

#

THE PENGUINS' GOD HAS SPOKEN
