ich auch, aber ich kann nichts essen, da es jetzt 4 Uhr morgens ist
es tut mir leid für dich.
sind Sie deutscher Muttersprachler?
Ja
du bist eine nette Person. Kann ich dich als Freund hinzufügen?
Ya hows German going for you?
It is going good. I started last month and am learning everyday.
Thats awesome
Im doing it about 3x a week bc im learning french too
I think you have some typos in your Japanese. :)
Yeah, I just wrote what I heard.
That’s pretty cool, although you can be in Japan easily without Japanese if you are staying at the golden route. (Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka)
I would recommend to get a pocket Wi-Fi at the airport. ^^ but Japanese is a beautiful language and worth to learn.
no
Depends on your current level and motivation

@visual pike Can you please remove the big spaces from your post in #1335435249865461851 so it doesn't take up so much space when people are trying to scroll?
Can you just use the provided format?
Hallo!
How to join voice channel
@wind veldt, please read the Roles section in #getting-started for info on how to join VC and more.
Hi👋
(smiles) I fully expect when I start learning Japanese my proficiency will be quite similar to these ladies' English.
that's where we all start off, it's gonna be embarrassing at first
im so embarrassed whenever I open my mouth to speak German because I talk like a toddler and also get everything's gender wrong but it's necessary
Wie kann ich sprachräume finden
Und warum kann ich die andere Leute nicht befreunden
Hallo
Hallo
Hallo Leute
So sad
hallo junge
Wie geht dier ?
Es geht , danke
Halle leute
Hallo
Moin
Wie geht es dir
Gut und dir? 🙂
Cool. Ich heiße Ida und du
Hey Ida, schön dich kennenzulernen. Mein Name ist Nick. Woher kommst du?
Nett, dich kennenzulernen, Nick. Kannst du mir eine Anfrage schicken, damit ich im Chat mehr über jeden von euch erfahren kann? 😉
Ich komme aus Detroit, Michigan, aber Deutschland ist mein Geburtsort
Wie geht es euch
Hey
Is there a level where learning german starts getting easier ?
I feel it takes tremendous effort learning new words lol
but English gets easy though
Yeah but English grammar is way easier
German grammar just gets worse the further you go
Just worse and worse
how long have you been studying
3 years
hours a day?
Like 5 hours a week
lmao dont you feel its easier than when you started
no tbh
Ello
There never was a more true statement
But I feel like German words make more sense.
The idea of creating compound words to describe a particular thing/feeling is interesting to me
Yes but do you need to keep learning new grammars infinitely
Cant you just reach a level where its enough for study/work
Like English isnt my native and its not perfect 100% but I can study or work with it
Yes, most of the really important grammar is what you learn in A1-B1.
Even for my native tongue I dont know all grammars lmao
The beginner level grammar is really essential.
You'll make yourself suffer for nothing if you don't learn at least that.
My goal is to do C1 lol
This part continues though. Learning vocab. You do have to keep doing that forever.
yes but wont it get like English ?
I feel the same with Gaulish and I've been speaking it for almost 20 years now
Eventually, sure. How long have you been learning English?
My highschool and college were in English
But I remember since early highschool I was able to get a feel for the language and find it super easy learning new stuff
Well, idk how many years that is, but I would assume in the same amount of years from now, you will feel the same way about German vocab.
Cool
Languages are weird
I didnt depend on my school to learn English I learned most of it through video games
Meanwhile I also spent 6 years in highschool learning French but I can say my French is basically zero
And I used to get highest marks in French lmao
Fun fact I find learning new things in my native language way harder than English
hello
hallo
?
english is easy and its even easier to learn thx to video games i swear
I bet if I play games in German it wont be the same
Tried playing cyberpunk in German and it was a time
Man looking back now it seems like magic
English was a foreign language, you play video game with all the complex completely new foreign grammars/words/word order/alphabet and you manage to fucking actually learn new words
It does work I won’t lie
Like Minecraft has actually thought me like tons of words for materials
I remember seeing the word coup d'etat in a video game and thinking it was a difficult word lol
Hi
hahah literally going through this right now
I don't even want to progress the quest with how much I have to look up in each dialogue
@peak kraken elo
Saw your message in Study partners and sent you a Freundschaftsanfrage
I KNOW RIGHT
And the fucking timers man... lol. On the clock when I have no idea what I'm saying in the situation
It's kind of funny in my headcanon. My V just has absolutely no idea what's going on and takes contradictory sides on every issue
Can’t deny its useful though
I don’t know what your native language is, perhaps it shares more words with English than with German. In any case, English and German also share lots of vocabulary, so you can learn German better now that you know English. I’d also say I don’t know anything about you, but I firmly believe you can learn German to any level you set your mind to if you put in the time and effort. More concretely, you can absolutely learn German to at least the same level that you have learned English.
Kinda strange that most of vocab from english don't come from german
Haus - house
Katze - cat
Pfeffer - pepper
Nacht - night
rennen - run
sprechen - speak
Idk about most as in a majority, but a lot of basic nouns and verbs are pretty similar
Yes, there are a lot of similarities but I still can't believe that most of vocabs are (or a large amount) comes from romanic languages. Especially french
On Wikipedia I found 29% French and 26% German, sources seemed pretty vague though. So yeah if that’s true 🥖 has a slightly larger influence
Schrieben/write is an interesting and less obvious word too. I think of the English equivalent as to scribe
Hallo
That kind of immersion doesnt work forever
Thats the difference
When you do immersion in any language up until age like 13 I believe, you can learn it, or better, acquire it, how most people have english
If you played game in German when you were growing up, it would've been natural to you as English is
My native is arabic dude
Even the alphabet is completely new

I had no problem at all pronouncing new sounds in English
Like there is no P or V in arabic
But ich in german is hard to pronounce lol
Also ü
So what do you suggest instead, just learning by rote memory? Because I think learning with context helps you remember stuff, whatever the stuff is
Küche
No not what I said
but you just can't do it effortlessly
I see
But cant it work after a certain level ?
Like you do immersion after B1
Another interesting thing I noticed despite me feeling very comfortable with English I speak like an idiot
I think because I didnt practise talking with people a lot irl
but you need comprehensive input anyways
stuff you can understand
I feel like you learned at least one vocabulary in the gaming session.
Nah I agree but you still cant do the whole language
it can help
i can’t play games in english anymore
shit just doesn’t feel right
hi rin
Jim kwik is the master when learning stuff. Go check him out and learn about his techniques
Yeah that makes sense.
With this “learning effortlessly” I just wonder whether it’s underestimating the effort people put in to having kids’ material in simple language and teaching kids the language and/or the same things that someone did as a kid being less interesting as an adult
Like I don’t remember learning my native language but obviously I did at some point
Hi Lexie. ^^
well yes someone did put effort in, but it was nothing compared to a teacher teaching someone a foreign language after that age
I agree with this that
Just think about "wie geht's"
what about it
It only takes like a week till it becomes second nature to you
Wie geht’s wie stehts
yeah you can pick up on basic vocab because you hear it very often
Yes it was effortless
I imagine, ignoring the fact you would be bored out of your mind after 3 days, that you could keep rewatching a video to learn the vocab from it
or generally, if you hear a word or a group of words enough times, you can pick up on it
i found just today that i am starting to remember the meaning of sogar
Theres channel on youtube called easy german for vocabulary
And like people who downplay the thing by saying they “only learn through video games and now I’m such a native speaker”… I’m sure they learned through things other than literal video games, otherwise they couldn’t talk about like politics
I am watching easy german as well
I was reffering to it
Flashcards can make you memorize wrong
Like I learned word uhr through flashcards
And I pronounced r like gh
but later on I heard it was r not gh
that has nothing to do with flashcards being ineffective
you do need to hear it anyways
but you need to know the reading rules
once you get those down, you will be able to predict how most words are said
Its not that you are a native speaker
But you have no difficulty in learning
Like during highschool my friend saw English as hard as maths
For me it was as easy as learning my native
There are people who claim to be native from simply playing video games, not saying it’s true just saying these people exist
Prior to that I only done video games in English
lol
plus, there are decks with native speaker audio
and apps too
I spent hella more time studying my native than English
Like, ok tell me which video game taught you the word for “Top income tax bracket”
Memrise, Seedlang
Overly specific example but yeah that's true
Its not just about learning new vocabulary
Its also about feeling the language
Well you wont learn grammar with immersion thats for sure
no but you feel it
Me and my friends who played games in English
During exams we can feel if something sound right or wrong
My other friends had to rely on grammars rules
We also learn grammars but we depend more on how it "sounds"
Depends on how lenient your teachers were about it
I only play one game and it has no language whatsoever
if they were strict about it, you probably would've done much worse
like sure you can get a feel for it, but then still end up using past perfect where you shouldve just used simple and do bad in a test
idk take this for example
You can say
Pick up phone
Pick phone up
Or
Pick it up
But pick up it
Just sounds ugly af
its not pure grammar thing
you cant say pick phone up though
it is actually
there is a rule for i
word order,
Now in german you say
Er steht am 7 uhr auf
Or
Er steht auf am 7 uhr
Doesnt sound wrong
um*
yeah you see the issue
yes
I can't go by feeling with German yet because I haven't immersed myself nearly enough to do so
Like I have thousands of hours of immersion with English, whereas it's probably a double-digit number for german
Whats ur native btw
Serbian
Is it hard
Yes very much so
Same
And yours is?
I presume a specific dialect
English words are so fucking simple
yeah they are
Syrian
because english simplified itself in such a way that there are no cases
and pronouns are also very simplified
We have standard arabic but its hard af to speak in it
really? I thought you like just knew it
I understood it was the like language you hear on TV and all
I see
yeah i always assumed it was something like Hochdeutsch where they teach you the standard language in school but you speak dialect in your town or something
You hear standard arabic in formal situations - prophets videos - Qur'an etc
But they usually have a pre formed speech they read
so on TV they speak your local dialect?
so switching between standard and dialect would be more like code-switching in english
Speaking it on the go takes lot of effort
interesting!
wdym code switching?
yes
Because you don't use it or is it more difficult in some sense
like how speakers of AAVE switch to standard american english when they’re at work or in formal situations
Aren't they called dialects as well?
Its very close to akkusative and dative thing
You add a sound to words based on their word order inside the sentence
So if you were making new sentences in your mind you have to think which sound to add and remember rules etc which is annoying
The dialect throws this stuff away
I see, those might be just regular cases like akkusativ and dativ
every language has them
even english, the so-called saxon genitive is the remntant of the genitive case in english for example
the 's you add at the end of names/words to indicate posession
oh thats pretty interesting
Iirc you have many cases in Serbian
Indeed, 7 that is
the ones German has + Vocative, Instrumental and Locative
You use them even in the dialect?
well you see for Serbian its a bit different
we do have dialects
however
there aren't as many of them
and they are mutually intelligible
also, my dialect is the one upon which one of the main 2 is based, so i just speak standard basically
I imagine since you use cases on daily basis it became second nature to you
I see
So you find akkusative and dative easy
Can you give me example in your language
Like write it in English
I can give you one in my native : P
Ich suche Freunde. Mir ist langweilig. Mein DM ist geöffnet

Hallo leute
Oh man thanks for that! Not really my kind of music but i'm sure a lot of people will really appreciate it
Hello can i read manga in mangafox here in germany?
Use a VPN
theoretically yes, everybody does it on this or mirror sites but it is technically still piracy.
But by using a VPN you prevent them from accessing your information too easy so they wont bother your isp
Hey 👋🏻 gut und dir ?

One of the best thing is when u learn it active
I'm trying. I definitely know more than when I went to Berlin. All I knew was Bitte and Wo ist die toilette
Ich mach mein Urlaub in Berlin dauert Mai

Das ist schön. Ich lerne mit einem Ukrainer und er hat mir ein bisschen Russisch beigebracht. Am meisten Beleidigungen aber ich kann mich nicht wirklich beklagen.
But u have native role
Cool
I know…..
Ich kanns auch nicht perfekt.. wer kann das schon
I mean with no perfect that sometimes I make mistakes in the grammar
Der hat mich falsch verstanden😔
Wer ist 'der'?
Der Weihnachtsmann
Sagt ja auch keiner
Klang nur so, als sei sie kein native
Also ich höre viele Deutsche deren Sprache schlimmer ist als von Menschen die Deutsch gelernt haben 😅
Danke Danke
Bin mir nicht sicher ob ich es bin…….manche sagen ja manche wiederum nicht
😂
Weißt du, was native bedeutet?
Du bist eine Legende ✨✨
Doch finde ich schon
Naww und du ein Engel ✨
Ja glaub schon
👉🏻👈🏻
Super
Ok
könnte nicht mir sein, ich vergesse immer noch die Artikel von vielen Wörtern
Wirst du schon noch
Ja das ist ja aber nicht schlimm. Deswegen lernst du es ja^^
Ja stimmt
gestern habe ich eine zehnseitige Liste gekriegt, die nur in Nomen-Verb Verbindungen besteht. Trännen werden beim Lernen geweint x3
Aber theoretisch musst du die ja nicht auswendig lernen
Oder lernst du für eine Prüfung?
Dann viel Erfolg 🫡
Vielen dank lieber Weinachtsmann
Can someone help me with this? So i wrote this sentence: "Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft verweist die philosophische, aber zugleich positive Stimmung und die tiefere Bedeutung dahinter scheint geradezu durch."
and GPT recommended this instead: "Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft verweist die philosophische, aber zugleich positive Stimmung darauf, und die tiefere Bedeutung dahinter scheint geradezu durch."
i dont get why the "darauf" has to be there
Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass Chatpgt nur kleine oder fast sinnlose Korrekturen macht
aber ich denke du hast ein Fehler gemacht? Bin kein Lehrer aber du hast den Hauptsatz nicht beendet
hmmmm
Kommt aber drauf an was du sagen möchtest
Du verwendest in deinem Satz „verweist“, sagst jedoch nicht „worauf“ verwiesen wird
"Despite the seemingly simple message, the philosophical but at the same time positive mood, and the deeper meaning behind it seems to shine through.
Du brauchst einen Punkt zwischen "message" and "the philosophical"
Ich würde lieber zwei Hauptsätze benutzen
In that case you don‘t need to use the verb „verweisen“ at all.
eigentlich eine besser Idee, aber ich will gern sie sammeln
mmm
soooo genitiv?
so like "Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft der philosophischen, aber zugleich positiven Stimmung [...}"
I‘d say
Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft scheint die philosophische, aber zugleich positive Stimmung, und die tiefere Bedeutung dahinter geradezu durch.
Sorry for all the typos, I‘m using my phone rn.
its ait, me too
but i get it, your just using the same verb to describe everything
quite clever
actually
Hmmm, well you‘re doing the same in your English sentence, aren’t you? 🤔
"Trotz der scheinbar einfacher Botschaft wird die philosophische aber zugleich positive Stimmung und tiefere Bedeutung dahinter bemerkt"?
ich kriege Kopfschmerzen
Okay what abt this:" Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft wird die philosophische, aber zugleich positive Stimmung, und die tiefere Bedeutung dahinter gezwunget, dazu geradezu durch zu scheinen."
heheh maybe
thats also good, get well soon
haha I didn't mean it literally
ohh
btw, english isnt my main language, and i dont usually translate to that
naja deine Version ist besser eigentlich @cold scroll
This is gramatically wrong, you could say „… dahinter gezwungen durchzuscheinen.“
but it would change the meaning to "its obligated to shine" no?
Yesh, it has a diff meaning
habe ich es auch verkackt? x3
"throught the ... it is forced to shine right through"
jaa, das stimmt, aber ich versuche eine Niveau höher zu springen.
Viel hängt vom Kontext und was du sagen möchtest ab
„einfachen“* but diff meaning again
die letze Satz ist die Satz, die ich mit ihnen geteilt habe
danke schön, hab versucht x3
es funtioniert für mich allemal
ill use this, sounds good to me
or actually, what abt this " Trotz der scheinbar einfachen Botschaft wird die philosophische, aber zugleich positive Stimmung und die tiefere Bedeutung dahinter geradezu dazu gezwungen durchzuscheinen"
Yes this is good
kein Problem ;d
No problem
Viel Glück Bruder, wir sind in dem gleichen Boot
Hi
Hallo :>
Did anyone notice too that german is overly detailed
Like they have different name for each kind of plate
Different names for train...etc
I mean… der die das
Das ist aber etwas Anderes als das englische "to draw a blank" - to not be able to remember something - ich bin so enttäuscht...
@opal sequoia hello
Hows you?

Hello
Hallo
Hallo, Hr. Herr
To be efficient!
Is it weird that you oddly understand German but can't write because you haven't learnt how to say stuff yet
im kond of at that stage
or, i can understand a lot more than what i can write
i still cant understand a ehole lot
I'm kinda opposite. I have almost no problem speaking it (I think - I use Duolingo and just joined this server), but can't really understand it half the time.
Im recent learner but I understand scattered words and my brain fill in info to make idea of whats being told
Its kinda funny weird thing
Not that weird, especially since there's a huge difference between passive and active vocabulary and mastering the expression of a language is harder than mastering its comprehension.
Most people are like that even in their native language
Think about reading some scientific article vs being able to write one
Moin
Hallihallo
this, even if it's not just a matter of verbal discomfort, there are first and foremost things that one just cannot talk about (deeply enough) in any language, due to a lack of knowledge in the field
Looks like something from a museum
I thought it was tofu
Wowwww
Gimme that
Hello
I might be a stranger here, but i really need to talk to a fellow Christian since i can nolonger handle these dark days, bad thoughts and agony alone.
<@&305455824174710787>
@lunar slate kurze Frage: Welche Gestalt hast du?
there are many other fine servers where you can do that
hello guys
yo
This is literally me xD
Bro I'm tryna learn German but I have literally 0 idea where to start on it
faq beginner
The simplest way to learn German is to find topics you don’t understand yet and search for explanations of them. This list provides you with a guide for which topics to learn if you are completely new to German. Type the topic into Google (or YouTube) and start learning!
1: Alphabet (especially ä, ü, ö and ß)
2: Basic greetings (hello, goodbye, etc.)
1: Noun gender & plurals
2: Nominative case (What are cases?)
3: Nominative pronouns (I, you, he, she, etc.)
4: Verbs in present tense
5: Definite/indefinite articles
6: Accusative case (for nouns)
7: Accusative pronouns
8: Word order of simple sentences
9: How to ask questions
See Part 2 on the next page.
- Always learn the gender of a noun when you learn a new noun
- Learn to use a translation dictionary (e.g. dict.cc, leo.org)
- Use
>faq resourcesto see our list of German learning resources - For listening and pronunciation practice, try watching movies or videos (incl. YouTube)
- You can listen to pronunciation for words on websites like dict.cc, forvo.com, and others
- Practice writing sentences every day (and asking people to correct them)
- Ask as many questions as possible
- Don’t be scared to make mistakes!!!! If you don’t let yourself make mistakes, you will never be able to learn German
Depends what you really mean by what you understand but yes generally speaking the average person will always understand more than they can produce
Its like watching a comedy sketch - you understand it and you laugh
Then they put you on the stage and your brain goes blank
Ja, un deutsche adler
Hey
Why do germans say "oder" a lot while talking
You know in English you dont say "or" a lot
Well at the end of the sentence it often means like "Isn't it?" / "Doesn't it?" etc.
— Du kannst Deutsch, oder?
-> You know German, don't you?
?
Please don't ask the same questions in differenet channels. Try #questions .
Yeah I think most centeal european languages do that, it’s common in Croatian at least
Das stimmt nicht, oder doch?
X]
No, I also think oder isn't that often used...
Well I have insta full of german contents
And I keep hearing oder like every two reels lol
I also hear the verb machen alot
Though it makes sense since its the equivalent of "do" in English
Depending on the content, the word could be overrepresented
Der Weihnachtsmann hat also recht, oder?
denke schon, oder nicht?
Oh my god Rin speaking German imma remember this moment for the next 10 years
Ja, oder?
Yes, never forget, last time you see me doing that.
Vanished into the void
📸
Remember, when you're mean to me, this is who you're being mean to
Uh... I can't....
Was kannst du nicht
@hot cloak Don't reply to people in the #1335435249865461851 thread please.
Omg... I thought Base will punish me because I was mean to you.
:O
I take it back, I dont want to be mean.
YOu might see me writing in german in lesson channel again.
Yayyyy
Thanks
I'm sorry
Hi everyone
@ocean knoll SOMMMARRRRRR
@crystal fox Nickaaaa
Sommerr
do Nico's Weg religiously and talk to people here, both text and voice
whatever you've heard about duolingo, it isnt a bad supplementary resource, only bad if its all you do
take as much input as possible, movies, shows, podcasts, music, reading, etc
with german subtitles^
would also highly recommend watching Extr@ auf Deutsch, its free on youtube
textbooks arent bad either, theres free ones in the thing you get from doing >faq resources
Love u
Hallo zusammen
hi summi
I quit Japanese due to Kanji and how many anki cards I have to do each day. What language should I study? I was thinking come back to German, go to Hungarian as I am part Hungarian or Korean but I'm unsure!
Can someone help me decide
I can not remember Kanji so it takes all fun I can get out of learning a language
Ik but Im unsure if I wanna
does ur family speak it
only the 2 of my hungarian that Ik and they are both old
most of the family who speaks hungarian is in hungary
and I dont know any of them
@empty meteor Learn Basque
nah Im probs gonnna learn Russian
Is it really just the Kanji you struggle with or the amount of cards in general?
Because you will most likely pile up a huge amount of cards in whatever language you learn, just by learning vocab. Make sure you learn at max 20 new flashcards per day, otherwise you will drown in reviews after 3-5 weeks.
I was doing 10 a day
Why Korean
Idk
imma do japanesse after this school year, and imma do that
I suggest learning Mandarin first. It is easier than Japanese and once you know it, it is easier to learn Japanese in the end. Believe me. I tried to learn Japanese and I couldn't do it. I learned Mandarin (cuz my cousins speak it) and I understood Japanese better.
How long did it take to learn mandarin?
Cuz my plan was to learn japanese then the other eastern asian languages
Less than a year. My cousins taught me and I saw them everyday, so it took a lot less time
plus i went to Taiwan with them
I think I might've learned in a summer
That's such a weird advice, wtf
Standard Mandarin doesn't even use the same set of characters as Japanese and its grammar is completely different. It will barely help you learn Japanese at all.
The only advantage I can think of is, that you could probably memorize the On'Yomi readings better, but that still seems very inefficient.
Im confused, what am i supposed to do
If you want to learn Japanese, just start learning it right away. There's no point in learning Mandarin first, that would be an unnecessary detour from the direct path to learning Japanese.
Ahh oki doki
Imm gonna learn mandarin afterwards anyways, so i dont think it matters that much
Yeah, but you’ll probably have to prioritize. If you’re a native English speaker and not a prodigy, you realistically won’t learn either of these languages within a single summer. In fact, you’ll likely spend about 1–2 years just reaching a basic conversational level. Reaching C1 typically takes the average English native around 5 years of dedicated study.
No worries i went from A1 to B2 in like a summer in german, but i like learning languages when its hard, so i think ill manage
Pluss i only do german for school, and now that the writing and whatever gets easier, i just dont have fun with it. So i want a challenge that im gonna spend some time with
I don't think learning German as an English native is really comparable to learning Japanese as an English native, but yeah you'll manage for sure. It'll just take way longer to reach the same level of proficiency in those languages. 😅
Hahah yeah true enough
Imma have to do some more german tho, need C1 certification for exchange year in germany
So i have a good 6 months to think things over
Good luck, your German seems to be pretty good already, so I am sure you'll do it.
Yayy, thx 😄
In a language like Japanese or Hindi, you also have to learn an entire different character and symbol system than in English.
I did Hindi till 2nd Grade, but I was so bad that the school said I didn't need to do it because there was no point as I wasn't even able to understand what the questions asked, both when written and orally expressed.
Exactly, that's why imo, comparing studying German as an English native to studing Japanese as an English native will set you up for failure lol
Well, I mean, it'll be harder, but I know some people who tried that and they're quite good at Japanese.
Well ofc, many people are!
But it's about the verzerrte Erwartungshaltung am talking about ;)
German and English are Germanic Languages, which also helps because that means some of the words come across easily.
Personally, I struggle with remembering words in German. Ich kann nur einfach Deutsch sprechen
I should've learnt German a long time ago, but when you live as a German Expat in India for 17 years, you come to realize that it's pretty much a rarity for a school in India to offer German as a foreign language.
Yeah I understand that 🤔 With languages it's (sadly) a "use it or lose it" type of thing.
Well, in my case, it was a matter of not even having an opportunity to learn German in school, because my parents spoke to me only in English in the family and even today despite growing relevance between Germany and India relations, German still isn't offered as much as other foreign languages in even the best International schools in India.
There is no German community in India as well, because there's only around 12000 German citizens in India.
Both of those aren't great conditions for a German Expat like me
damn
which city do you live in?
Bombay
Hello all. Does anyone know any good resources I can use to make a cv and cover letter for part time or Mini jobs please

Was geht hier
hello im from africa i want to know german
OH BABBY A TRIPPLLEEE
@woven mauve Thank you for pinging mods but please do not respond to trolls aside from pinging mods.
Okay I’ll try my best 🫡
Sorry again
you should come visit sometime 😄
What happened
Shouldn’t matter. The mods handled the situation and everybody should move on.
Yay I’ve gone up to level 6 on Duolingo today 😎✌🏻☮️
Nice! Today is my 54 streak, I never missed a day since day 1, you can do it too but I'll give you an advice, try memorizing what you learn at the start, you'll need those synonym a lot later, I wish I did..
Ok thank you (danke)
How good have you gotten after 54 days and what level is your German?
theres levels in duolingo now? 😭
Yeah it’s just proficiency levels
6 is only a beginner level though
I’m level 20 in Spanish
I think my german score is 13, and my russian score is still 1, since im still trying to learn the alphabet
I'm a little peeved that Duolingo is taking away the option to practice for hearts. Now it's purely ads, on my app at least. So I've been splitting my time between:
- Duo
- Busuu
- Clozemaster
- Drops
Hallo ^^
Hallo!
Hi gang
I’d say Busuu is a lot better than Duo
Just the fact that you can get people to correct you is more valuable than any goofy ahh lessons these apps have
i dislike duolingo
the aforementioned ads for hearts and the herat system in general is just annoying
Great list, how does Drops work?
Duo's really not a great way to make progress in any language after the beginner to intermediate levels
plus all the ai shit
The pronunciation is horrendous
It's a great word game app, and I love word games. Not really a language learning app per se, it's just a side effect of playing Duolingo IMO
how does it utilize ai? i havent used much duolingo in a very long time
ai voices; ai lessons; firing a shit ton of workers and replacing them with ai; etc
i agree, thats quite cringe
hello!
payload
Payload
guys what games would you suggest to help practicing german?
(didn't want to interrupt the convo in #general lol)
tf2
i- can you suggest some others? fps games are not my style exactly
cs2
Memrise is good tho
@hollow lintel check this list
LanguageSloth is making a game, nothing playable is out yet
Bitte
Noch in A1 aber besser als anfänger
Most of the words I can say I can't spell
congrulations!!
Duolingo came back to life and now started using discord
i know your location
I am coming
uhm... Please don't kill me
Why? Drake thought u were 16 or smth?
my age is 15
I reviewed my German flashcards
🙏
I'm 16, so I'm not legal either
es gibt einen monster unter dem Bett
What does legal mean in this context
ein monster
look dualingo
I usually say this as "I am not 18"
"I am not legal" is probably a shortened version of " I am not legally allowed to drink "
Wait, it's neuter?
In Germany you are allowed to drink with 16
ja
Oh
In Italy you need to be 18, my bad
Sad.
Verdammte scheiße
the way it’s 21 in america 😵💫
i’ll be able to drink when i visit germany cuz i’ll be 16 atp teehee
(I 100% didn't learn it from Duolingo. They're too family-friendly to put such a sentence)
be really careful
I know your location
people who live in far northern states will sometimes drive to canada just so they can drink at 18
Yeah. But only beverages like wine, beer and champagne
.. Ok
fine by me
i’ve had german beer once it was fantastic
something paulaner iirc
Nice.
I tasted alcohol only once (it was a glass of wine, which I didn't even drink completely)
Didn't like it
Like, I tasted only a drop of that, and then immediately went back to water
probably cheap wine 🙄
people be sleeping on german wine icl
There are some people that don't like alcohol, maybe I am one of those
Whats icl
i can’t lie
I don't really know tbf
What does "be sleeping on" mean
I think this is an acquired taste
Like beer
Just very slang english, I don't really know how to translate that though
if people are sleeping on something it means that thing is underrated or largely ignored despite being pretty good
Oh.
Maybe.
We have a lot of wine
I grew up in a region where a lot of wine is produced, I even helped with the wine picking sometimes
I first time hear this
who's that pokémon
or 14 if you´re with your parents
man what is this bullshit
maybe its not so bullshit
you can just use all if you see a definite article or a possessive
"Mit all dem Geld" straight up belongs in a rap song

Hallo Wie gehts es Ihnen
Halllo
guys, if i want to learn untill a2 by end of may
i.e, in 3 months
is it possible?
i'm willing to spend 5-6 hrs a day
i know english on c1 LEVEL
german is going to be my second international language other than my native and national languages
can be possible
Hallo Zusammen
yes
Anything is possible if you put your mind to it! Alles Gute!
bonjur
@sawolen
if you’re willing to spend 5-6 hours a DAY don’t even worry you got it
why cant i start a game in vc?
Yes def with that time commitment
Also send me ur study program when ur done

if you do manage to meet that amount of study time you'll definitely see good results by then, but if you wanna be the most efficient I'd personally recommend spending most of your time listening to/reading German content that you can mostly understand but not fully, and spend the rest studying grammar and vocab however works best for you, personally I have found practicing with a textbook to be very effective but they're not for everyone, additionally, using Anki (or another flashcard application) to study vocab is great, just watch a couple YouTube videos on how to set it up and you'll be good to go. good luck on your studies!
This is what I love about German.... I've never seen the term 'Schreibtraining' before but I get the idea
sure!! thankss
hmm I'll look into it... you're at which level?
around A2 by my own estimation, however I've gotten to where I am quite quickly in the time I've spent with the language
Hi
German has so much of this lol like once you learn the first 2000 words or so the rest are just combinations with each other
Indeed. Many words even if I've never seen them I understand at least the literal meaning, though the exact sentiment may escape me.
Not really so but a lot do yes
You should trainieren your schreiben
English X German duet
You solltest more trainieren
In der Tat.
