Well, just play the normal timed content and maybe play some early islands in addition to that. That should get you plenty enough of most mats.
Also make sure you upgrade gear when possible to access higher level dungeons/raids.
I don't think there's anything else you can do.

@tender haven With timed content I obviously include events in that. Do make sure you grab all the materials from the event shop before the week ends. There's a lot of good stuff in that shop.
You'll especially want the books; these give a flat +10% honing chance for 1 attempt, which is a big deal when you're getting close to finishing a tier.

Roster lvl is just a thing that’s there to get over time. Nothing important comes from it besides a bifrost (fast travel) slot.

Combat level 50 is where the game starts and is the ‘soft cap’ for level.

Sharpshooter is a harder class, not one I'd call a great introduction unless you're really set on his skills.

I'd argue that Support is a great introduction to harder fights; you're less useless and can do harder fights easier with a support than most other classes.

Paladin especially is a great starter class as he deals ok damage for questing, unlike Bard, which can be a pain.
