Idk if you already got an answer but you just hone (upgrade) your armors, for that you need mats to do it, and you get those mats from your homework daily quests, chaos dungeon, guardian raid (ignore them for now, not needed and no one does them at your item level), una tasks and event shop currently running, a one and done way as well is the tower, shade spire or something it's called, most of this is written in the newbies guide iirc

reaper is probably the easier class, but it is back atk so gotta hit the back of the boss, not a big problem on reaper tho since they have lots of mobility but soul eater is “hit master/non positional” so they can do their dmg from anywhere, but it’s builds follow more strict rotations and if ur not used to that, might be a bit to learn

lunar might be a bit hard to learn as a new player

I'm a returning player and I vaguely remember people crafting archeology maps, grouping as 4 and popping all 4 together to share, is that still a thing?

iirc the shard currency (used to craft those maps) still exist, and so do the crafting NPCs, but the Chaos Gates have been reworked, so they no longer give shards or maps. So you can spend any leftover shards that you have, do the maps yourself, but going foward into the future nobody will have/do those maps.
