No, you should find a list of all useful engravings and favourite them. Learn which engravings are for DPS and which are for support. You don't want a support engraving (awakening) with a DPS (grudge) engraving.

Quality Upgrade has a chance of success %, which goes down the higher the quality is. Usually you quality-tap when you have low quality (red-yellow-green). After it's high quality (blue or purple) the success chance starts being really low. Below 5-3%. No point tapping then unless you have those free taps and if it's your main character.
Also, a tip: when you craft your brel/akkan gear, if the quality on the crafted piece is low, you can always try and quality-tap it (before doing Gear Transfer), since the chance is higher. When you Gear Transfer, the highest quality remains.

I know this is a very late reply, but please never feel the need of creating alts, at all, and if you do create alts, don't feel forced to create more than you can handle, the game is perfectly playable with 1 char alone, yes you will take longer to reach higher, but there is never a need to get alts, they are a heavy investment, both in time and resources, and time is your most important resource in an MMO. If you wanna create one or two it's perfectly fine, just never feel obligated to do so, more alts is just if you want and can play more, whoever tells you "you need 5 alts to even keep up" is a liar and FOMOs super hard, don't bite the bait

Yes, you get "a lot" for a minimal amount of time spent, but your inventory fills very quickly, mostly with either useless or hilariously redundant loot (multiple containers, three different rarities of unident gear, random junk loot, materials, etc) which all results in limited inventory space filling up quickly.
This results in incentivizing bag slot expansion purchases, material slot limit expansions, shared inventory slots, more bank slots.

I just take issue with GW2's playerbase consistently pretending like ANet doesn't do the same things every other studio does, like the gold to gem conversion system somehow easily compensates. It doesn't. Most people are going to opt to swipe before they spend time getting the amounts of gold they need to get these bag slot expansions and otherwise.

when i have 1800 more spec on FM than on NE and my tripods make the abilities deal way more dmg
