Exactly I never understand these white knights on their high horse which defend so dumb system. It does not matter if you can or cannot manage get set. OP is right, system is very complicated, it burns more time than do raids and on top of that it is heavy rng. You have to know what you are doing + you have to be lucky. There are no guaranteed ways how to get set no matter how long you are trying.

And it is correct that it is high value for its cost, that is actually another problem of that system, because it is high damage increase, it makes it mandatory. So lets sum it up, it is very unrewarding system to interact with, it takes long to cut, there is no pity, it is very expensive and it is not gradual increase of power (e.g. 39 set is not better than 35 and 34 not better than 10). But no matter how bad it is, you have to do it, because power increase is so big, so you cannot really ignore it. For example bracelets are also heavy rng, but it is not mandatory to have +15% damage increase bracelet, everyone is fine with more or less free 7-10%, it also don't burn time to cut it and you get them from almost every type of content, not from one specific raid.

There were tons of good ideas how to improve that system besides cost nerf... give us animation skip, remove one line, give even odds to all effects, remove some useless effects, let us choose one effect per elixir, lower amount of points needed for rank 4/5, remove useless set bonuses, add few rounds, etc. so many options which would make it much better experience, but no, we got only gold nerf and twice more to cut (so weekly cost is same). I can guarantee you, that as soon will new players manage to push 1620 and elixirs will be one of first systems they will interact with, half of them will leave. I would if would be elixirs core system on release...
