@shy fog @limber loom @blazing wolf im a customer at Nitrado for almost 15 years now. Its a german company (they also own Apex hosting).
The servers are pretty safe and yes, They will sue anyone who tries to attack their network because you make an agreement with them when you host a Server there. Even though the standard protection against attacks from botnets is already very good, there are still other options available to you to take action against it.
Attacking a single server is not the thing they care to much about but other services that use the same infrastructure may be affected. That's where they're definitely going to act.
A long time ago they had an ddos tracking Feature built in the webinterface where you can monitor PPS and Bandwidth of the attack. Was cool feature.
To conclude, nitrado and tornbanner have signed a contract. Nitrado is committed to hosting the servers in good condition. If the servers have a lot of down time, they violate the contract with tb as well as the contract with the end customers. They won't let that happen and take actions against it.

One should not underestimate this company. They've been hosting servers since 2001 and pretty much know what they're doing. At the time, most hackers were still liquid

Yea, depends entirely on what Xeons get assigned to your server. From the looks of their hardware page, they go up to 48 cores on their latest gen Xeons. I imagine easy to run games like Terraria and whatnot are put on those big 48 core nodes and harder to run games are put on the lower core count but higher single core perf nodes

I seem to remember ARK servers running terribly in general. I've slef hosted on my own PC (5900X) and with 4 - 5 players we still ran into issues with server performance. Could still be because I didn't configure some parameters correctly but I don't remember configuring anything to begin with except things like password and visibility

you have a point here which i agree on. the question is how important this game is towards the publishers monetization strategies. for how long the game prolongs to be purchased. if the publisher is acting towards anti cheat is a consideration customers take into account. if the rumor spreads that the publishers gives a f* shit it will damage its own reputation and the whole business strategies for all upcoming games. if rumors spread that all their games are easy to hack, customers will take this into consideration. but this question is only answerable towards internal purchase data. only problems force the publisher to act, and only purchase drops may turn the wheel around. but if the rumors spread that this publisher is not acting and the game is becoming unplayable, would u consider this game-publisher again as a customer?

game industry needs regulation. Every game should be a passion project. Those are the most successful games, yet chiv 2 reeks of cheap labour, poor time management and poor staff retention.
Same dissapointment as when a company advertises gold standard customer services but you call them and an Indian call centre picks up.
Regulate them if they can't do it themselves to ensure we at the very least get a robust, finished game.
Too many studio's (not just this one) releasing unfinished crap in recent years.

Even games like Trackmania and Minecraft which have "renting options" also offer self-hostable binaries which are generally accessible to the public if not at minimum accessible to a significant number of providers. What TBS is doing is non-standard, offers suboptimal server locations, and doesn't guarantee the normal levels of customization present when we're footing the bill for servers.

Most "buy a server" things are just "other people using the publically available self-hostable binary" and configuring it in a manner you decided was acceptable when you purchased their server hosting option.

However yeah renting for chivalry 2 works quite a bit differently to how renting works for most other games

With most games that have rentable servers the servers are rentable Because the server files are just available to everyone

Which means any provider can rent and anyone with a PC can make a server on that no renting required

In this case the server files are not public

So there’s only approved providers

Of which there is one

Drastically limiting locations

Luckily however Nitrado is actually a good provider as providers go

I was dreading they’d go with someone like Multiplay or something which they have preferred historically (mainly down to the amount of locations they had compared to everyone else even if the quality and service was lacking)

Yes i saw some message about it with no real impact in game.
I mean, yes a "Report" button exist but no impact, every time you have to get the playerslist and add some evidence to sent a mail to chivmail thats a cumbersome procedure...
Every time the answer is like "Thank you for your report" and you see the same cheaters every day, so Yes TB did some things but NO it still didnt work.

So what, we wait till the next update (in 4 6 8month ?) or call it a "hotfix" after Xmonth (thats not a HOT fix) to hope something will be done ?

i guess private server was a solution to hide the problem (cause thats nitrado who have to deal with the DDOS) but for my point of view private server is a failure.
Too expensive and no xp/gold to bring people = fail
its not like with the new update they broke the flaming chicken.... every time there is an update it broke other thing.

Everything you've mentioned is what I have been sayin to the community since i joined! THings are extremely messy and it is such a shame they have not implemented the same additions as Chiv 1

The Duelsyards in this new chiv are hilarious to me because the maps themselves take up so much rendering and memory that it negatively affects the server latency and lags. And because not many played chiv 1 they dont know the standards of a duelyard or map possibilities. CHiv 1 had a universally accepted high standard of map and duelplay that not many members comprehend. That being said the Nitrado company have taken TB's money and must be laughing because they're unacceptable in terms of disconnections by the minute. Very unstable.

Hackers are having their fun too. Not just those but it is now whole clans which have the hacks and are parading them into duelers just for fun and jokes. I joined one the other night, many well known clan members all flying and floating with horses and ballista's just because they can get away with it whilst saying the "Game is dead...."

How unfortunate its gotten to that point of people literally taking the piss because they can.

I'm not sure why TB think this is a minor issue considering complete silence on the matter. It will only get worse before it gets better. TB seem to work in a time warp. Great games but admin devs should be on this immediately. Who knows what will happen.
