#Private servers when? You guys need to give the community proper tools.

Surprised this hasn't been locked yet!!
Cuz some of us don't wanna pay to rent a server
i mean, they still havent given us a specified date. maybe when they do they can wrap this up?
I’m sure many of the clans will buy their own servers. I’ll buy one and make it open for all.
You're not wrong obviously some are gonna buy a server so they can host stuff.
I'm expecting clans to have their own private ones with maybe some that are at least semi-public or "community" servers

🔜
🧢
bump because this has to happen
it is gonna happen
just like cross progression
I hope they add them but all XP should be forfeit in private servers period.
We should be able to XP grind since there's no cross progression.
A lot of people will put the majority of their hours in on private servers
If there's an exploit to farm exp the exploit should be patched, not the ability to earn xp
Im cool with it if I can get some xp
I can see why a game like DRG has xp on a separate save file than your main one when using mods that they define as changing up the game to a great extent. Like giving your weapon 500% damage and upping the spawn rate of enemies by 800%.
Chiv 2 doesn't have anything like this and any sort of xp exploit should just be addressed and fixed instead of peoples xp being stunted
If they give us the ability to mod servers and it becomes and issue, then it could be revisited
Otherwise all you're doing by disabling xp is deincentivizing using the private servers with no real benefit
Chivalry 2
they are coming 24th or 26th
Can confirm, I am Chivalry 2.
no there were leaks
I wouldn't believe everything you hear
I would
I would, hi moon
🤷♂️ do what you will
man, chill, moonmoon is great
He can be great and what I said be true at the same time
Why it get deleted?
Because I had the audacity to be somewhat blunt with my words
and it was seen as being a "jerk"
genuine babymode mentality from the devs
When adressing a Torn Banner developer, you must envelop your criticisms in a verbal cushion that is accomodating to their sensitivites
i wouldnt critizie one specific person...
There's no more community manager. There is no other way to address them other than the two individuals on the team that are willing to interact with us
in a meeting, getting back to this in a sec
Stream it if you can
unnecessary. you won't be able to answer any meaningful question. although that may not be your fault, it's entirely silly and so obviously it will be heavily criticized (sometimes with mean words attached!)
especially since i (BELIEVE) moon does audio
like I said he's the only one (maybe also connect) brave enough to tolerate our insults and ramblings
so he'll recieve the brunt of criticisms directed at the studio as a whole
Moonmoon right now:
Barry is a very good show
idk why private servers are so incredibly unlikely/unwanted by TB. It'd just make every single thing easier for TB themselves. No mods needed to ban ppl, no more requirements to set up tournaments, etc
It may have been disrespectful to say @waxen comet and I apologize if it offends you or the moderation team, but your studio, Torn Banner, IS sociall inept. It is a fact, not an insult meant to offend you guys
You do not know how to interact with your community members and that may not be directly your fault
moonmoon typing a mf essay in MLA format RN
Knowing TB private servers probably won’t come out until 2025
2024, its confirmed
But the studio's inability to take criticism and feedback and improve based on that, is 100% truthful.
Didn’t they say it was gonna come out a year ago or something ?
the most sympathetic, innofensive, respectful comment will be placed here very soon by Moonmoon (the unfortunate victim of the horde of chiv 2 goblins)
In 2023 they said private servers were coming next year (2024)
Private servers are needed since the official ones are ran by hackers which is also nice
I didn't remove the comment btw and it's getting a bit off topic, but ill look at clearing things up but then discussion should either wrap up or we should move it elsewhere.
- I'm sorry you're unhappy with the current level of interaction. Believe it or not, that's something that we're aiming to address soon.
- People have in their head that there's some information that's for sure and concrete based on speculation, and once they have it in their head, they get angry when it changes. My comment is saying don't have these expectations so that if it's not exactly what happens that they're not getting angry about it.
- People want to know all the details on things but get angry when details change, but details are Always subject to change. Good example is the controversial cross progression cancellation. If I went into details now, and they change, I'm sure you would be unhappy with me for telling you incorrect information.
Now regarding Private Servers, we have confirmed they're coming officially (which we're very excited about). But, as it is a WIP, we don't want to reveal information until the time is right (both from a progress standpoint, and from a marketing standpoint).
Game dev is a very "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type job. So studios have different methods of approaching it. We've done both methods (sharing a lot and sharing a little), and both get about the same amount of anger.
Btw, we welcome cristicism, you'll notice a fair share of it across our channels. We only remove it if it's not constructive or it attacks the person behind it, not the problem itself 🙂
moonmoon saving the day
I agree with many of your points but at the end of the day many agree that Torn Banner has not improved interaction with its community EVER since the beginning of Chivalry 2.
In fact if you go back to pre-release developer interaction was signfiicantly more involved.
Moonmoon just dropped the hottest diss track we have seen in ages.
homie, with all due respect, and it isn't to you personally
- interaction should've been day 1 when it comes to players. just simple as that.
- if you didnt want some players having speculations on when something is happening, it should've simply been announced once speculations happened.
- we get things are subject to change, but dont promise things when it isn't gonna happen..
For example, when people ask if you guys are working on another game (due to the pitiful progress of chivalry 2 development) the answer will not be "No, we are commited to Chivalry 2"
The answer will be "eh can't speak on that, teehee!"
Lets keep it on topic thnx
Yes @waxen comet there generally is no excuse. It has been two years and Torn Banner has never improved on communication. It ain't gonna happen any time soon. And it isn't your fault, that's also ok.
You are in a big company that, for some reason, is extremely corporatized now
Responses are slow, weighted, and held back by people out of touch with the game and its players
Yeah because they are busy working on the game
The casuals don't have a voice, the comp dudes don't have a voice, the content creators don't have a voice
working on stuff that none of us really ask for, every update is simply a metric that is determined ot generate X amount of revenue.
They are doing a good jobs hackers definitely arnt running The game
It takes 5 minutes to sit down and look at player issues and respond. It shouldn't take mods who (again, in all due respect) don't entirely know what's going on with the game
The community has consistently been asking for certain features, and they always take a backseat to content updates that do not prioritize the players' interests
They are working on that, connect mentioned that the hacker issue will be addressed in this year.
Because battlepasses and maps have a predictable profit estimate, they will be what is focused
and of course, the level of quality always underdelivers to most people.
Does anyone actually think they have been working on private servers for 2 years straight?
At the time of it being asked, they had alot less devs, having gained about 100+ devs in the last 2 months means content will be out more often.
They been here since the start of the game
Then why do the old content updates have more content than the newer ones?
It just doesn't make any sense
And now its being fixed, better late than never.
the devs are more focused on adding content that may or may not increase playerbase, while the already existing playerbase has a multitude of issues that just simply aren't addressed, nevermind fixed.
I respect that you disagree with how we're approaching communication; like I mentioned above, you're welcome to make a feedback topic on communication in general as long as it doesn't attack the studio.
Mention with examples how you would prefer to be interacted with, but we need to stay on topic for the private servers thread specifically 🙂 so let's end this discussion here and make a separate topic
First 2 years, they had alot more devs.
Devs quit after that and they went looking for new ones, hence why we only got 2 updates in 2023.
They hired alot of new devs again and are ready to get back delivering juicy content for us.
Have some faith
Ok, on topic, will we get Central servers?
Realistically, you don't even know
that's a problem
Look, don't get me wrong, Chivalry 2 is literally one of my favorite games of all time, and will continue to be, as long as it gets the things it needs (and that includes private servers) but the devs do not listen to it's existing community, rather catering to advertise new things to players that may or may not even join to begin with.
Will we get to decide our tick rate?
Again, you don't really know
Where is an LK when you need them
If it's Nitrado then probably not https://server.nitrado.net/en-GB/company/datacenters
exactly. I brought up this topic and @ the devs. They didn't know so obviously they ghosted and didn't respond
on topic here, will you be able to remove archers with private servers? 👀
Obviously, until they release an official FAQ that's subject to change or if MoonMoon is able to answer the question
It will be very basic private servers.
honestly i think archers should be allowed as long as they dont RDM players. sometimes i enjoy playing as an archer to handicap myself
i'm talking about private servers here, you should be able to disable them.
We're coordinating with the provider on the regions they have available. If central is not available as a region then I'm sorry to disappoint you
Leem, the questions you're asking are a work in progress as I mentioned. we'll answer when the time is right and when things are more solidified. already goes hand in hand with saying we're not talking about them until we're ready.
I appreciate the passion and excitement people have, so thanks to those who are talking with genuine interest
You want an example of how you should respond, but Torn Banner is a studio with a relatively high amount of resources. You don't need to be told how to communicate, but if you really need an example I can provide.
Just say "At this time, I don't know. I will go find out for you"
Again, I don't mean to be disrespectful but it should be obvious to not just neglect stuff like that when a dozen people spam that concern in the same thread on the same day you announce private servers
I mean, fair, and if an owner wants to disable any class they should be able too, i'm just saying that sometimes playing other classes (in the correct way to play them in private servers) shouldn't be a bad thing
Will u be able to ban ppl
Like, it's absurd that I should have to provide a step by step guide on how to properly communicate with your playerbase. That is an insane ask
You could've just hired any number of the highly commited mods for the CM position and you KNOW they would be good for it
They could've fixed this communication issue in a month tops
And again, that's ignoring the fact that Torn Banner does not admit fault on these issues. They view their current model of interacting with players as completely sufficient. If they didn't, then I believe we'd see that.
everyone has expectations on how they want to be communicated with. I was asking for yours.
I often spend a lot of time outside of work with the aim to help improve the game, and play the game a lot on my own time as well. I do believe that each person has a belief that they know what's best, but it is often not congruent with how things actually work, or in practice would not go the way they expect. so on that note, we can agree to disagree while remaining respectful of your opinion 🙂 but this discussion is over
no way connect is here too
we're still off the topic of private servers, so I'm removing the posts. Instead, I'll ask what peoples "dream lists" are for server customization options
I can provide you with a concrete list of heavily desired features that include the basic necessities and the more 'want' stuff
well then, ill make a small list of my preferd options;
the ability to limit weapons, classes
the ability to choose map (duh)
the ability to insert lists of names to quickly whitelist people and make them auto go on the attacking team or defending team (so each team would require a different list)
the ability to choose who becomes VIP
@waxen comet
- basic server travel
- score adjustment settings for LTS, TDM, FFA
- Tick rate adjustments
- More server location options (necessary since you can't host your own on your own hardware)
- First person and Third Person lock (I think this is already coming)
- Subclass limitation adjustment settings (can set archer to 0 for no archer servers)
- Disable/Enable bots
- Remove/Add maps from map pool
- Password Protection
"Wants"
- Balance changes for specific maps (for example, making the catapults have more or less health)
- Message of the day (pop up upon joining that can be customized)
Infinite spawning bears on Thayic for very important purposes
- Ban list management
- in-game server notice, or 'admin says:'
- 'reset' current match to warmup and restart (for events staging)
- in-game management of password enablement (private server mode on/off)
- tiered users (users that cannot be votekicked, users that can kick, administrative users that can change server settings)
- an audit log of moderation and administrative commands
- a log out of chat messages (for integrations)
- a log out of kills and point scoring actions (for integrations)
- api/webhook capabilities with in-game chat commands (to send to a discord bot for example, !duel or whatever)
- server info including discord and/or website links, short desc/rules box
- quick set gamemode preconfigs "activate TDM, activate LTS, activate FFA, activate duels"
We aren't going to get anything beyond what's already internally available.
Willing to or allowed to interact with us?
I thought there was a Torn Banner community manager? They had hired someone a few months back. Just aren't ready to announce publicly for some reason
I think that's fine as long as there is a plan in place to introduce them to the community and get rolling again
I feel like communication has been at a standstill since Tenosia dropped and Jen did her last QA / reveal session
Can I report back to you with a list of what people were hoping to see (understanding that nothing is promised)?
Gimmics list is probably good but I want to ask around and see if there's anything else
I just rattled a bunch of junk off the top of my head
Lk is everywhere
There are 2 community managers rn

1v1 me
Hey I was checking out the Nitrado website and I noticed they had this feature. I was wondering if you guys were able to let us know if you're going to be implementing this becuase i know it would be HUGE for the community. As I'm sure you heard there is a big "hacker" problem that TBS has been dealing with and that includes DDOSing of competitive and organized events.
Here is the utility: https://enterprise.nitrado.net/steelshield/ . It would be awesome to see something like that helping protect the integrity and security of chiv 2 players. Are you able to confirm that will be used @winter latch ?
That'd be neat to have
yeah ddos protection seems pretty important would hope to see this feature announced with the servers
I believe it would be something TBS would need to implement in their code so nitrado could make use of it, this would mean a client update as well as server code update.
My assumption is this would not be able to make a release window approaching but there's always the potential for a later patch release?
The ball would be in TBS' hands I bet.
I hope they dont add it, otherwise how will I ddos servers when people are being meanies to me :(
we need anti ddos and an anticheat, but xD
I was hoping to have an update on private servers sooooon

Lol
Bro lock this thread up
Will the Private servers only be available on Nitrado or can we self host them on a root server
no
only via nitrado
Pointless why to limit it but okay ….
Contract, money
Rizzylata
🥺
Rizzy lata…
sluggylata
- Control over which maps are looped. 2. Mod commands like change map, delay start timer so people can switch sides, ability to send admin messages in the chat. 3. Kick people who are not supposed to be on. 4. Allow more than 64 people on the server, but others could spectate? 5. And having like a 80 person TO would be awesome.
And if im reading Nitrado right, there are no servers in Central US?
this guy knows because of you 🙂
im waiting like the rest of us
Nitrado, awful company that doesn't even have servers located in central US. Only locations are LA, NY, and Miami. MIAMI of all places, the 44th largest city in the US, and already covered by NY. Not Chicago, the 3rd largest city in America where a large portion of the playerbase connects due to being in a central location. Nope, they get to either go east or west with high ping. Thank God those Florida folks get a server though.
I have no idea how Nitrado became a company worth having a contract with, because they seem to be completely incompetent at a very basic level from my understanding, but I guess they're the only degenerates willing to make a company for private game servers. Brilliant decision to not have a server located in the central US though. Top notch decision-making. I bet their CEO is a genius on par with Elon Musk.
Are there other reasons you think it's a bad company besides not having central servers?
I agree not having central is bad. It would be better to have ONLY central than east / west xD. I'm just wondering why the animosity towards nitrado
Their hardware is owned not rented which means it's fairly outdated. Other companies rent hardware which allows them to get the latest specifications like processors, ram, etc. as tech develops
They do this for increased profit margins since owning hardware is obviously more profitable than renting
I've had good experiences renting their hardware
I heard there was drama related to ark as well
But idk much about it. I think people were mad about the exclusivity agreement?
Any sort of exclusivity agreement is generally bad for consumers so that makes sense. More heads in tbe market means competition and competition means better products
Well they aren't dogshit and of course the hardware is more than serviceable but that is just one aspect that makes them worse. In fact, they actually own Apex Hosting. Apex Hosting rents instead of owns which in theory means Nitrado + Apex has the best of both world, with Apex acting as the more premium option with newer hardware.
Oh interesting
Do you think nitrado will host the official servers and apex hosting will host the consumer rentable servers?
ask the devs
I had figured they were moving official servers to nitrado with the agreement
dont expect a response though
I don't see them anywhere
Nitrado has a contact with Intel and has always the newest CPUs. Somtiems also some that are not even out on the market
this would be a larger lift since most of their servers are run by microsoft IIRC
matchmaking servers are run on azure workloads under their playfab infrastructure
I have first hand experience that their hardware underperforms compared to even their own sub company Apex's servers
while they may have contacts and update their hardware, it still isn't up to snuff compared to what a company that rents its hardware can achieve
Thats not because the Hardware is old its cause its shared on diffrent customers
yeah ofc having a dedicated machine to one customer will always be better but I still think they could afford to improve their hardware especially considering their market share and profits
or they could link over to Apex more so as to cover that base
Generally speaking, it's a case of Consumer Desktop (Apex) < Xeons (Nitrado) for game servers
I imagine for Nitrados business model, Xeons make more sense as they can handle a lot of servers at the expense of the baseline per server performance
Would be too expensive for the average user

u can look at it this way too for comp matches or hosting in miami- if you look at google maps and look at the distances between Miami to Chicago, Miami to Dallas, and Miami to NY, the distance is roughly the same so the pings 'should' be somewhat equal. That is why I would try out a Miami server first. but yeah, it would be nice to have a server close to you.
Distance isn't as important unless you're crossing an ocean. It's all about the number of switches/relays between you and the datacenter
you can get a number for your ping, for example, by just clicking on this Hell Let Loose server from Nitrado and there is a dropdown list of the pings for miami, LA, and NY from your location. .https://server.nitrado.net/en-US/offers/hell-let-loose?platform=pc
Im in NY and ping is like 34ms to miami and I found a dude in Dallas saying his was 43ms to miami.
miami excluding West is the problem
Miami isn't the worst if all you have is east and central players, but there is no "central server location" which is fine for canada, east, west, and central
o yeah, west is gett'en boned. miami would be for central and east.
my last dream server feature, i think im up to 6 - ability to rent your server software so we could put it on our home PCs and host a server.
This is wrong. Light still has a speed limit
Of course, but a connection at the same distance across the US should have worse ping than across the Atlantic
Probably could've worded that 10x better in the original comment
west and canada
there's a significant number of comp players who are in canada in NA

It’s not happening
Then i suggest closing this thread.

Cancelled
source?
that's more an issue of the undersea cables having so much traffic than the actual distance being lesser. That's why new york to LA is as bad ping-wise as new york to britain sometimes even barely outside of peak hours if not NY to britain being better, for example
the US is ridiculously huge and our infra isn't really up to snuff for modern gaming in a lot of ways even if it's more than good enough for the normal latency-insensitive tasks like sustained video streaming or general web browsing
and even to the extent that it is good enough the distances are simply actually that large
location is everything not just because of the literal distance, but because of the related infrastructure as well. Chicago has some of the best network infrastructure in the entire US because it's such a central location for data centers even if some of the flyover states would theoretically have superior location to chicago for absolute distance
not that residential benefits from the infrastructure all that much, but it matters massively for ensuring people get good routing for games across the US and canada at the business and data center level
With private servers on the way, please use this thread to detail what you would like to see them offer; https://discord.com/channels/209841695850889226/1204508851164942366
