I’ve always wanted a cat, I live in an apartment with my momma, unfortunately it’s a small two bedroom and my mom is not as much of a clean freak as me (she’s getting older and used to leaving dishes for the following morning, I’m guilty of this too) sometimes food maybe left out, or trash maybe sometimes left out sometimes by the door, or un-bagged sometimes there is clutter, but for the most part we’re pretty clean people, are these issues for a cat? Do cats know what chemicals are? Do they know not to eat or sample things they shouldn’t eat ?

Obviously, we would be accommodating of a new house mate! However I’d more so like to know, do you need to be an absolute clean freak lock away chemicals never leave food out or do are they kinda smart

Also our apartment is right next to a major rush hour road, therefore no matter what we do or how often we clean there is a constant dust that we do attempt to mitigate but it’s still there

Both cats and dogs will eat food that's been left out; that's just instinct. Sometimes they'll get into garbage too, depending on the smells. Just like with having kids in a house, chemicals and other things you don't want pets to get into will need to be put away securely.

Thanks 😊 I did get them at the same time. I believe they might be sisters? They're spayed. The lady had them 2 months and claimed to be allergic. She kept them in a cage that whole time 😕 they free roam the back half of our house. They had an outdoor "hutch" too. So they were picking them up twice a day every day 😭 but I know people adopt adult bunnies... so hoping they feel safe soon.

Oh poor fur babies 😦 try to let them free roam 24/7, i know a lot of people say its alright to keep them in cages overnight but from experience this creates trauma 😦 Sparky was truly hard when it came to trust, took me 6 months overall! Again i know its hard and you might feel the need to keep them caged at night, and again a lot of people do but from what you told me when it came to you adopting them they feel trauma from being locked 😦

If you are able to let them free-roam then you will see changes in their behaviour rapidly🙏🥰 Good luck on your bunbun journey

no i dont' keep them in a cage ever! they lady we got them from did. they half the house to free roam, just half for now until they get comfy from dogs. so at night they stay in a spare bedroom. it has all their things. a big cardboard tunnel, food, water, boys, litter box 🙂

i do keep the "cage" she sent in that room, but the door is always open. i only keep it in there in case they get over whelmed and want to be in there. it also has a hidey place and a little cat bed. but the door is never shut, and the bedroom door is neve rshut. i do put up a doggy gate at night on their bedroom door just in case to keep my doggies out and because their room is 100% bunny proofed and they piddle and play all night lol

they are so cute ain't they? and so quiet, and so clean. too precious 🥰 they do make a mess though but it's easy to clean up. one of my girls will knock her food dish over or else she wont eat it. then she leaves all kinds of food dust crumbs behind 😂 lots of hairs. but i've ordered them a special brush, it comes any day 🙂 i tried to put any spare carpet i could find in their room so that they coudl have good traction to binky 🙂

I have a friend who has large dogs, and the bathroom toilet is the dogs' only water source. Like, he has it that way on purpose. He even realizes that toilets are a pathogen-receiving and breeding ground, but he doesn't seem to care. Then not only do the animals get exposed to that all the time, but anything and anyone they lick does too. I don't understand why anyone with even a minimal modern awareness of disease would do that to their animals and themselves.
