Eco does have a point though. The first time you do it you need to source a jack (although most cars have a jack) oil pan can be any container. Any auto parts store accepts motor oil. The rest is googlable.

The batteries in EVs charge using DC current. If an EV receives AC current, it has an internal inverter to convert it into DC current for charging. DC chargers bypass the vehicle's inverter and can charge the battery directly which can be significantly faster.
Charging is really complicated and there are lots of communications that take place between the vehicle and charger such as payment information, charging capabilities, maximum power schedules, safety checks, authentication, etc. It's not as simple as plugging the EV into the grid.
