if you feel like you are a victim to ice beam you could add articuno or change corviknight to specially defensive

#

and then do physically defensive gliscor

Going off this, if you want to abuse toxic spikes gengar your best hex alternative is a bulky gholdengo. you can add thunder wave for added status against flying types that are immune to it. Flutter Mane needs to be choice specs for a heavy special attacking power, unless you think you are bad against choice scarf Meowscarada which naturally threatens the type.

#

^^^ which alternatively you can do choice scarf flutter mane. for Gholdengo you can use a damage reduction berry like Kasib or Colbur (depending on what you want to survive and fire off a thunder wave with).

#

Dragapult if you want to run Dragon Dance I recommend Leftovers + Substitute

#

However you need to be weary of Archaludon as it sits on this easily

#

(Depending on if it has Draco Meteor)

#

Palossand is not very good, as royal said previously. It gets insanely power crept and just doesn’t provide much.

#

I recommend changing Sableye to Ceruledge and Palossand to Gholdengo

#

Flutter mane should be Moon Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, and I personally use Power Gem for the off chance you run into Articuno Flying (not used that much but it still is a good means of breaking Moltres + Articuno)

#

Bramble I’d suggest Rapid Spin, Strength Sap, Spikes/Poltergeist, Power Whip.

#

Hazards, especially with this team, are so fun to abuse.

#

You don’t really need Stealth Rocks as the only spikes immune sturdy Pokémon you’ll deal with really just whittle down to Skarmory (you have Gholdengo).

#

Hope this helps @pure zinc 👍🏻💕

looks good / standard normal just with maus for last slot

#

prob want g knot over trick on hisuian zoroark for water coverage (mainly doinking pert) as in my testing / watching others as well you never want to really let go of your specs as its too valuable to pass up

#

as without it you really can't break / force progress in the long run

graceful reef
#

Didn't wanna use any legendaries, they fake birds

lusty anvil
#

thats just the beauty of flying types as a whole which keeps the type functioning

glacial skiff
#

Even if you didn't exactly want to use the legendaries, Gliscor, Skarmory, and Dragonite are incredible in the utility they offer defensively and offensively to a flying team.

lusty anvil
#

your essentially nerfing yourself and at that point i would just advise you to utilize another type as a whole

#

i would however utilize gliscor and the double steel birds + d nite as peng said

#

a core of gliscor / skarm / corv / d nite is already a solid option

in mono poison teams what are the good archetypes, in a lot of types some archetypes are simply impossible to do bc there is no mons for it, so in your experience what are at least the usable playstyles in poison? I wanna make a new team but not the same copy of the last one

glacial skiff
# waxen tapir in mono poison teams what are the good archetypes, in a lot of types some archet...

Generally Poison is trying to play balance/semi-stall. HO basically doesn't work at all, trust me, the people spamming Revavroom teams on ladder don't get very far. Full Stall is somewhat functional (It did see play during MWP) but is a bit more of an MU fish than normal Poison. You can also try for some bulky offense if thats more your thing (Generally you're opting for Runt on those comps as a Nasty Plot wall/wincon)

waxen tapir
glacial skiff
#

Yeah.

waxen tapir
# glacial skiff Yeah.

to be honest it has pech/weez and more so I'm not that surprised it can manage stalling

glacial skiff
#

Like I have my own stall build https://pokepast.es/c5786e77debf5d39 But this basically was accepting that I just auto lose V Flying/Ground and was gonna make my MUs into Steel/Ghost a lot worse.

#

But it got me suspect reqs back when Zamazenta was legal so it worked (for the time)

#

If you're looking for a bit more of a recent stall poison, Wincon loaded a team in MWP: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9monotype-891060
It was built off mine as a base with changes (and frankly, I am not gonna be bothered to did through the onslaught of teams he keeps building to find the paste for this)

That's a question a should've asked myself now that I think about it

lusty anvil
#

ok so another crucial thing is we utilizing non boots items and have no defog on the team which overall Stealth Rocks as a whole just destroys us

#

we also dont have a special wall to help combat vs special mons like greninja and friends

#

first change i would make is making corviknight defog and making it fully special defense

#

Corviknight @ Leftovers

lusty anvil

this is what can be utilized

#

good compression in slow pivoting + hazard removal + a ice beam switch in which is really appreciated

#

12 atk is to always ohko flutter mane with iron head

#

and we also have skarmory on the team so we dont need corviknight as a physical or mix wall at all

graceful reef
#

Ah

lusty anvil
#

for skarmory, curse is cute but the mon is slow overall and its really only used with body press to help vs mamoswine, ting lu, bisharp

#

and rn you have stealth rocks on gliscor so my change for skarmory would be Body Press + Iron defense over iron head + curse or you can do Body Press + Spikes to stregthen your team via hazard stacking

graceful reef
#

Honestly didn't even know it had spikes

lusty anvil
#

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

  • Body Press
  • Whirlwind

graceful reef
#

lusty anvil
#

kk gliscor moves are fine, pretty standard / straight forward

#

evs can be changed, and you said you dont know what the spread is for correct?

graceful reef
#

Nope, wasn't sure what the speed was for

lusty anvil
#

ok so the speed hits 242 which outspeeds honchcrow which is unused af here.

#

instead we will going into 96 which reaches 250 and now we outspeed a deadly ass threat to our team: modest raging bolt

graceful reef
#

Bet

lusty anvil
#

We will also be making gliscor hp evs 244 for poison heal number

graceful reef
#

Ok

lusty anvil
#

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 244 HP / 168 SpD / 96 Spe
Careful Nature

  • Earthquake
  • Knock Off
  • Protect
  • Stealth Rock
#

for now we will make gliscor spD to also help a lil bit on swapping in against special attacks if corviknight becomes too weaken to swap in comfortably

#

next is dnite

#

moves fine we will just going max attack max speed on it adamant nature with boots to preserve multiscale

graceful reef
#

Alr

lusty anvil
#

lookin cool / strong

#

lets move on next to pelipper + kilo synergy

graceful reef
#

Got it

lusty anvil
#

i like the idea + its funny to disrupt sand + sun, but overall i think pelipper is just a flop on flying builds unless ur going all out and utilizing like a rain style build which is also gimmicky.

#

we need speed control and a way to help combat vs steel as kilowattrel cant handle it on its own

#

good compression i see looks amazing here is flamigo

graceful reef
#

🤔, I get it

lusty anvil
#

lastly kilo, we can keep it: good speed, hits hard, helps with mirror but will be changing thunder to t bolt for consistency and weather ball to u turn just so we are not walled by like treads when we are trying to pivot around

#

looks fun to use i would now just test it out on ladder / room tours to see how it goes

#

hope u enjoy it and like always happy gaming!

#

tweak to ur liking ofc

#

Alr, are there any Terra types I should consider btw

hexed schooner
# graceful reef I might need to think a little longer on this 🤔

it looks like pre DLC rain flying team a little bit
Gliscor will stall your rain turns so it's not really optimal, i'd suggest more to look at Landorus (therian or incarnate). You have very good rain abusers in flying such as Tornadus-T, Iron Jugulis, Landorus-i, Zapdos, Kilowattrel, and even Thundurus-T. Gyarados and special Dragonite are not too far neither. Pelipper is your defensive wall while Corviknight is your special one and pseudo Flutter Mane check. Flying is a type that loses in builder some MUs and rain isn't the best archetype but it doesn't matter let's go for it !
If you want to keep Kilowattrel, you'll be struggling against ground types especially playing around sand since your mon will be totally useless and against Swampert that you can't really touch enough. Tornadus-T learns grass knot and could be a good combo with nasty plot, focus blast and bleakwind/hurricane. Dragonite being a pseudo check to elementary types and has access to a priority. I've choosed scarf lando-t with sr since you need some physical hitters and some kind of speed.
https://pokepast.es/ef0acc897bbd3a15 this could be another option but to be honest i'm not crazy about kilowattrel

south copper
#

So id definitely remove the grimmsnarl and save that for a different team style

#

I also think Alolan muk is a nice Pokemon but then sab likely gets dropped or maybe mandibuzz but there goes ur momentum

#

Which is fine too but I think each of these play styles (grimmsnarl as a min individually needs very direct abusers to really make sure out of screens if it’s not anyting setting up + having a proper wallbreaker/ stallbreaker (win condition vs stall water and maybe pressure stall gliscor flying)

#

Darkrai would probably profit a lot more on the screens compositions most definitely high speed plot

#

But my grimm comps are a little ugly kek

hexed schooner
# waxen tapir https://pokepast.es/de742e55df85d946 the single wonkiest team to ever exist

Ditto doesn't fit in a trick room team where you want to benefit the most from it and Ditto is doing the opposite. To counter ground moves and have a chance against fighting, you can use choice scarf Staraptor. Also you need a Zoroark-H instead of Meloetta which can be good but doesn't serve the team. If you're playing Trick Room you have to commit to it so using a Brave Nature Ursaluna or at worst an adamant without speed invest.
This a team you can see on mid to top ladder https://pokepast.es/09c912bb29f90df0 for example. Some options can change like 4th move on Terapagos between Ice Beam and Flamethrower.
Normal generally doesn't have a lot of place to innovate so Meloetta while being very good struggle to find a niche. If you want to use, it's either with Relic Song to help vs Dark type or either with an Assault Vest

Put heavy duty boots on Volcarona. Play the "bulkyrona" set with QD, Fire move, Morning sun 172HP / 252 Def / 84 Spe (so you outspeed Dragapult at +1) Last move can be either will o wisp or substitute
Heavy slam > flash cannon (0- Atk Heatran Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flutter Mane: 342-404 (136.2 - 160.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO). Taunt can become also Stealth Rock or Will O Wisp. You also need some HP and SpDef invests to take choice specs shadow ball and power gem
Play Cinderace over Volcanion with court change sucker punch pyro ball and low kick. While Volcanion helps vs water, it doesn't benefit from the sun. Cinderace helps bringing speed and can more or less manage hazards on field.
Ninetales over Torkoal so you can bring back to life your sweepers with Healing wish.

Also on a side note, Ogerpon-H can enjoy trailblaze instead of substitute to help the water mu (outside of rain)

#

If you wanna keep Torkoal you could make Cinderace a choice user with band or scarf

south copper
#

I think meloetta individually is nice and has a nice nice movepool notably focus and vs like dragon or just general utility thanks to knock . I think it can put in a lot of work in positioning but I think dual psychics often overlap

hexed schooner
#

No. See what I said about Volcarona, basically you're twice weak to stealth rock so you can't afford to have another item than heavy duty boots. You have 2 stealth rock setters. Only 1 is enough especially since you're super weak to it. Calm nature is enough on heatran. If you're going for Torkoal, you dont' need court change on cinderace so you can play zen headbutt for toxapex for example, gunk shot for fairies (even if not sure it's that important), uturn

ok off of what i said about hoodra, this type of build your going for setup spam + control type of dragon which overall gets worn down / beaten in the metagame, these mons right here cant really benefit off of ho style with out screens (if you go that route which is very gimmicky) and another crucial mon in latias + healing wish support is missing, this struggles against top types, especially flying and steel but dont worry we can make some changes to give you a better time in the metagame

#

i would right off the back just make dragapult a specs set here since we are lacking in special wallbreaking + breaking steel cores consistently and open up a slot on archaludon to slot in Stealth Rocks

#

Foul Play is cool / cute to punish ceruledge and like scizor but overall you have moon that stops ceruledge and if its CC then its basically gg already,

#

latias can compress nicely in speed control + healing wish for bolt or dd roaring moon

#

Hoodra can be over garchomp and you can really mess around with the roaring moon set if dd is not cutting it

#

arch / hoodra / specs pult / scarf latias / moon / bolt

#

IF you want to do a setup spam type of build. change the pult set to screens set and add in scarf h wish latias over cm latios instead but again as i said, just really gimmicky / inconsistent

Lando can become an issue quickly for your team.
Im more curious about the lack of ferrothorn that helps a lot of MUs except fire which heatran prevents partially and Exca threaten offensively. Also hp rock does less damages to volcarona after boosts than a physical move

You re gonna have some tough time rapid spinning too but that's a general steel issue imo

28- Atk Heatran Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 348-412 (111.8 - 132.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Heatran Hidden Power Rock vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 208-248 (66.8 - 79.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

tepid warren

ice monotype isn't that great at all to be honest

#

but yeah what he said

glacial skiff
#

You want Encore > CM in Tales, Spikes > Shard on Lass. Bulkier Mamo with Rocks, Lugg with Sturdy (gives you at least a guarteed spin) and generally Beam > Focus Blast on Kyurem.

#

Also I'm not a big fan of Cloyster on Ice. I think Weavile or Cetitan are generally better due to their superior speed (at least while snow is up for Cetitan)

quasi veldt
#

I've never tried Weavile so far

quasi veldt
#

Calm mind wasn't getting used much, that's true

#

Which Mamo move should get replaced? Trailblaze?

glacial skiff

Both trailblaze and Iron Head need to go.

So Rock and... Hmm

glacial skiff

Mamo is usually this one Ice:
Mamoswine @ Leftovers

Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 208 HP / 220 Atk / 64 Def / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature

  • Earthquake
  • Ice Shard
  • Smack Down
  • Stealth Rock
#

Smack better threatens Flyers like Skarm and Corv (allowing you to EQ them) along with greatly crippling Articuno, Moltres, and Volcarona.

quasi veldt
#

Knock off should be obsolete if I exchange Cloyster for Weavile, right?

glacial skiff
#

Yeah.

quasi veldt
#

For Weavile, is
Knock off, Fake out, Swords dance and Poison Jab good?

glacial skiff
#

Nope.

#

You want Knock, Ice Shard, Taxel generally.

#

With Low Kick > Taxel sometimes (better Heatran and Archa MU)

quasi veldt
#

Maybe having another way of damagin Archa would be good

glacial skiff
#

Archa is terrified for Kyurem.

#

And is only really able to switch in on Lugg.

quasi veldt
#

Earth power can deal with it ig

glacial skiff
#

Steel I'm not sure how to beat, but Dragon you wanna layer up with Lass early then just pressure hard.

quasi veldt
#

Steel has been the hardest matchup honestly

#

Alright, thanks a lot!

glacial skiff
#

No problem.

hexed schooner
#

Also something that hasnt been said is freeze dry on ninetales over blizzard deals way less damages but helps vs water mons much more that can otherwise play around you since ninetales outspeed most of them naturally (except greninja, barraskewda and ogerpon)

hexed schooner
#

Also I don't mind Cloyster which is your only viable way of dealing with steel tho liquidation deals same damages to scizor without risks of missing so it's more for skarmory.
I'd change Froslass which outside of fighting MU with Mach Punch is relatively bad for Weavile which cover more with a choice scarf so you can have Low Kick and Triple Axel/Ice Spinner.
Avalugg niche is to be physically bulky so you should invest in this stat instead of Special Defense. Another option is to play Avalanche or Earthquake over Iron Defense to hit Ghost types but you can have a harder time against Scizor.

@glacial skiff you recommended lvl 5 Mamoswine, be careful !

Manaphy feels like more of a screens benficiary but I don’t think you likely need rain dance on this set typically in this tier you need situational awareness and counters to other types zs. For water without a fairy type you’re relying on pretty much just z haze pex but here ur manaphy likely needs to be evd for +1 kommo of some nature ; that being said having either z haze pex or fairy type gives nice utility -

I believe defensive pex is usually preferred a bit more for a potentially more realistic fairy matchup also and u don’t necessarily “need z” but if you do I believe you should have like an aggressive fast Mon like ice z greninja even I saw someone use rock slide variants too and that hits kyurem-b but icenium z from green isn’t the worst either

#

Keldeo is also a great Pokemon to consider you want to also think about ferrotborn and th aspect of rain and their leech seed turns can be more consistent over you just trying to fish scald burns to cripple a ferrotborn celes core but it’s still an option but I think keldeo or a similar route is nice to consider

#

Yeah no notes really team looks fine

#

You could change ogerpon to something else like urshifu if you want

#

Just to immediately take advantage of rain

glacial skiff
#

I've got a few.
Pex generally prefers PJab > Sludge Bomb as it is better at donking Hatt and Prima.
Psychic Fangs is generally better than PJab as Kingdra can nuke Oger-W with Draco and most other major Water resists/Immunities are also Poison themselves (Pex, Moong, Clodsire) (Anything else left is really just Dragon so just leave them up to Kingdra or slam em with CC.)
I've started to fall off Oger as a breaker on rain. I generally think SD Samu-H is a better guy overall since Spikes are good at wearing down the problematic Resists consistently + a Dark/Ghost resist is super nice to have.
Also Pert can go max in SpD since you don't need the 24 attack for the Excadrill MU as much (rain guys can slam it)

# raw wadi https://pokepast.es/2140be6c599cdcc3 was using this a little bit for some ladder...

You should change krook for tinglu offering you more hazards that you can use to pressure with knock off users and giving another special tank
Muka could be rest talk stick more to this philosophy and you could potentially drop defog on mandi for toxic
While Lokix is very good against offense, another option to play around hazards could be Samurott-h or you play with water move > ceaseless edge to have a better Gliscor MU + sacred sword for Archaludon + priority
I also think you kinda need some spammable move on Hydreigon and would play dark pulse > draco meteor to help vs steel water flying

Since your team is a bit weak to Azumarill, i d play 16evs in speed on Mandibuzz to be sure to do damages before play rough

Okay, I'm not the most experienced when it comes to Gen 5 Monotype but I think I know enough.
Right now a lot of the team is mostly here, but the sets are a bit off along with Rotom-W not being all that great.

#
  • Pert really wants to be much bulkier than this and doesn't give a crap about Hidden Power at all preferring a utility option like Roar.
  • Starmie wants for Psychic to help deal with all the Fighting-types in the tier generally is also Life Orb or Spes. If you want a Spinner Tentacruel is going to serve better off its bulk + high recovery (along with helping to threaten Grasses)
  • Politoed doesn't care about being bulkier as bulky is generally used on Pert, Tentacruel and Empoleon with it generally being the scarfer of the team.
  • Keldeo likes CM to be a generally superior win condition and to really bully types like Steel and Ground

however, as there are teams that utilize gliscor and lado together i woldnt recommend stacking up the beam weakness and would change gliscor to mamoswine

would change nasty plot to gravity on lando-i. pretty straightforward, helps alot when battling steel + with ur current set; this now allows u to not be completely walled by air balloon gholdengo.

hexed schooner
# toxic shard i wanna run both sires for gen 9 monotype (ground) but i dunno if thisll make it...

Hey this looks like a semi stall ground !
You want some def invest (160) and full hp on your Clodsire to live 2 flower trick from meowscarada which otherwise destroy you. Also you hit way better on physical side. You can play poison jab, recover, toxic/toxic spikes, earthquake/low kick
You would prefer modest scarf landorus here to be able to beat ogerpon which 6-0 and drop Garchomp for either Assault vest Mamo / eviolite Piloswine or Ting-lu (imo slightly better option if you re going into stack hazard).
Gliscor is a really good Swords Dance user here with protect, knock off and facade (or earthquake if you think you lack some ground) with 244evs in hp, full spdef.
Quagsire is a good anti setup and kinda wants recover and toxic but cant setup here cause nothing will stay against it and it takes a lot of damages. With sr or spikes as 3rd move you're more comfy. Offensive move can be liquidation/ice punch/whirlpool realistically.
Your treads is good !
Defensive TingLu will help a lot Quag which isnt that bulky and can take ghost moves + whirlwind/ruination/rest/sleeptalk/heavyslam/payback(useful cause you re slow)

#

https://pokepast.es/8e901b5085936d36 this is my team. Choice Band Dragonite does more than 50% to Quagsire that's why in emergency case i prefer to have ice punch but i keep alternating with Whirlpool for more cancer with Toxic. Thanks to RH, you can kill TA scarf Meowscarada and if it's band well, hope that between hazards and scarf Lando you're gonna get it
I'm playing naive on Landorus for Volcarona.
Low kick on Clod is for balloon Heatran

This team has some issues.

#

Alot of the mons here are good for a flying core, except staraptor, but their sets are not very valuable.

faint jasper
#

tbh i took the mons i like but how can i improve it

glacial skiff
#

Ideally.
Gliscor would much prefer to run a Bulkier spread, even if it wants to lean offensive.
Dragonite either wants to be Choice Banded or running HDB.
Skarmory wants to lean entirelly into physical bulk.
Running Corv > Staraptor gives you a special wall that can actually switch in on Ice Beams and provide Defog support + pivoting.
Gyarados here would likely have to play bulky.
And Enamorus would be the Scarfer.

faint jasper

  • Stealth Rock
  • Toxic
  • Earthquake

Skarmory generally prefers Spikes as Hazard stacking with both can easily weardown several types.

gloomy vapor
#

Toxic spikes will have several useless matchups btw too

#

The most obvious being the flying mirror

glacial skiff
#

TSpikes in my opinion aren't great in the current monotype metagame as a lot of types either run a Poison or don't give enough of a crap about them to really worry.

#

3 types by default don't care.
Fly, Poison, and Steel.

faint jasper
#

yea i see that

glacial skiff
#

With Skarmory, you would want to lean full physical defense and run Spikes > Stealth Rock. But other than that, the Skarmory is good.

what should i put on Corviknight

gloomy vapor

Adamant Nature

  • Extreme Speed
  • Outrage

but are you sure about the band?

#

why not life orb

gloomy vapor
#

Yeah it’s one of the best sets

#

Band allows it to actually use its ability before being hit

glacial skiff
#

Band also does more damage.

#

DNites typing also allows it to come in on some threats a bit safely, notably Fire-types and just start ripping away with its power.

#

glacial skiff
#

Altaria is kinda buns without its mega.

faint jasper
#

i mean i can mega it

glacial skiff
#

Forgot to copy the EVs over and run Fire Punch > DDance on DNite and you should be good to go.

#

Also Super Power > Focus Blast on Enamorus. Super Power is just more reliable with Contrary than Focus Blast.

#

It is a beat weaker starting out, but you'll generally only need it in endgame situations to snowball or to pick off foes such as Hisuian Goodra or Air Balloon Heatran.

You want Iron Head over Brave bird on Corviknight
Gliscor wants 244HP and be specially defensive with enough speed to outspeed modest raging bolt (reaching 250 speed) and leftovers in Special Defense with + Special Defense -Special Attack nature
I think Gyara + Dnite isn't very productive. I'd change Dragonite for Moltres-Galar OR Gyarados for Articuno / AV Tornadus-T
Your Dragonite wants heavy duty boots if you're going for dragon dance and thunder punch (for Primarina and water) if you're going for choice band.
Your Gyarados wants to be full HP, with a lot of Defense and Impish nature.
Superpower > Focus Blast on Enamorus with Naive nature is by far more reliable

Hello! Me and my friends are doing a tournament monotype with a draft. (There can't be the same poke in any of the 18 teams... One team per type). We decided to have 9 Pokemons and choose 4 of them to play vs our rival. We will be playing singles and doubles! I was planning to use the Bug Type. This is some of the Pokes I have! Can someone help me with my team? https://teams.pokemonshowdown.com/view/1637649-00mrtvaa8k20ds7wuwkv

I know this format is pretty weird! They also told me bug is not the best type but I wanna do my best! Thank you so much for the help!

Its screens fire.
No Heatran is a major yikes solely since you've got no real way to actually combat Flutter as specs Pgem just cleans through your team with little resistance.
Also as much as I'm a fan of Iron Moth, Its not generally great on Fire and Sub Variants espessically aren't going to get the job done.

glacial skiff
#

Okay, so going in, this is a decent start in some aspects but its missing a lot in terms of what makes Dragon super good in the current metagame.

#

Garchomp for exmaple is close to be excellent, but its lacking Scale Shot, Stone Edge/Fire Fang and Loaded Dice to make it a truly devasting breaker for Dragon.

#

To keep it quick.
Pult, Chomp, and Hoodra can 100% stay but need set changes.
Dragonite could possibly stay.
Dragagle and Haxorus need to go.

#

Haxorus just isn't a good breaker only having super niche matchup applications that are generally done better by others (its a stall breaker but Kyurem and Raging bolt break Stall water a lot harder) while lacking general versatility.
Dragagle meanwhile is just worse Hisuian Goodra a lot of the time.

#

Your team also right now leans far too physical without an excellent special breaker, pult isn't good enough.

eager rune
#

oooh ok I see what you mean

glacial skiff
#

I already mentioned what I would change for chomp.
For Goodra-H, I would make it run Protect, Heavy Slam, Dragon Tail, and Knock Off with leftovers as the item.
For Dragapult replace Hex with Flamethrower and run Choice Specs > Life Orb.

#

For Dragonite, for a backup special breaker that still is a ground immunity/fighting resistance. I would put Expert Belt Latios there with Luster Purge, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Recover.

eager rune
#

ok so replace dragonite with the expert belt latios right?

glacial skiff
#

Yup.

#

I would also run Physically defensive Archa and Scarf Moon instead of Dragagle and Haxorus.

#

If you need me to explain any of these sets/their reasonings I can do so.

#

But this is a generally solid dragon 5 mon comp with Chomp on it.

eager rune
#

ooooh ok this makes way more sense looking at it, but I do have one question, what would be the main "gimmick" of this team?

glacial skiff
#

Just being good and relying on solid fundamentals.
Gimmicks are fun, but I would generally steer clear of them until you have a solid grasp on the tier.

eager rune
#

ok ok, I appreciate the help, but looking at the items I see that both archaludon and the h-goodra both have the leftover item. What would be a good switch out for either item in tournaments that have the item clause?

glacial skiff
#

Hoodra can be a viable assault vest user.

#

You would replace Protect with generally some sort of alternative move. Earthquake is the main one to rely on but Rock Slide does have a niche in checking Volcarona while going with a Sassy Nature can allow you to slot in Draco Meteor more comfortably or Ice beam.

eager rune
#

oh yeah I did have some trouble with volcarona, but like you said it is pretty niche. But these are good to know! Thank you so much for the help, I learned a lot haha

glacial skiff
#

No problem.

glacial skiff
# rapid quest Hello I've been using a rock team and it seems to be holding up pretty well agai...

There is a lot wrong sadly with this team.
While TR seems funny, it lacks a lot of the core utility that gives rock was little value it has in this metagame. As awhole, this team looks like it would under preform if faced with major competition from the solid well built teams further into the tier.
Some things I'm noticing are the following:
A FEAR mon sadly doesn't work with the onslaught of good rocky helmet users and Ghost-types currently in the tier with it completely thudding into mono ghost itself. And thats not counting an forme of hazard damage it has to come in on.
Boulder would prefer band as once Trick room is up, you've got nothing that outspeeds Scarf Meowscarada or Greninja.
Weakness Policy coalossal main weakness will generally remove it before it can pop policy, especially from Water- and Ground-types.
Glimmora would much prefer Air Balloon > Assault Vest to give the team any forme of Ground switch in.
No Oger-C which is easily the best mon Rock has going for it right now.

glacial skiff
# wispy oxide https://pokepast.es/00ed9552528dfaa1 W Monotype team?

It looks, fine, but its currently far too slow. Only Sandy Shocks is faster than base 300 which isn't great as Electric doesn't have the best tools to really play the long game that well. You would probably prefer a faster Zapdos overall along with max speed on raging bolt. Other than that, it looks fine for an electric.

This ghost loses to Gliscor and flying. Ghold + Pecha is weird imo. One of them should be Spectrier or at least gives speed and spa investment to ghold to beat reliably flying

#

Since i know people dont want to use my ghost spread for Gholdengo, i know i can lead Gliscor and do at least a 4-0. Tho now we re 5v2 , gg

#

Other options are balloon Pecha and spdef Bramble

waxen tapir
hexed schooner
#

You're also in a 4HKO roll with Hex but you're also doing nothing to Corvi. Flying is never a 1v1 mon for defensive mons. Also some Gliscor are SD.

waxen tapir
#

or like the entry hazard set

#

which to be fair I don't see often

lusty anvil
waxen tapir
lusty anvil
#

pech is fine overall i personally would drop gholdengo here for like the horse

#

parting shot support + horse goes a long way

#

either that or like what kraken said earlier in making gholdengo more speed / spa in this comp as overall your team is a lil passive for a ghost

#

with no prior utility support other than scarf t wave Pult which i think should be wisp instead.

#

Ghost vs Flying is always annoying regardless of the mons, you have to overall play aggressive with your breaker + setup sweepers. Playing passive / defensive results in your being worn down quickly via pivoting core flying utilizes. tips i can give overall is force progress early with SD Ceruledge. you can make great progress in early SD leads, being aggressive on corvi swaps to catch it u-turning to get the weak armor proc off.

#

Overall constant pressure is key to winning

hexed schooner
#

So we agree with Boomp. Also the best tool of Pecharunt for Ghost is the slow pivot with parting shot to bring Flutter Mane, Dragapult or Spectrier safely on field and claim kill.s . Gholdengo needs to be modest to have a little bit more than max SpA than timid to be able to ohko gliscor for example. Modest can still outspeeds adamant Mamoswine

Gonna be honest, not a fan of this as a look.
Double pivot seems a bit too much for my money and I like having a water resist generally.
I also think Ada is way too greedy in general and Jolly is usually better on Sneasler.

glacial skiff
#

Pex, Moong, WA Clod, whatever sinks their boat.

#

If pex or moong, you're dropping runt while clod is over GKing. I'm a bigger Pex/Moong fan than I am clod though.

waxen tapir
glacial skiff
#

Your only real option is DGleam and once its revealed they're just going Hoodra everytime so you'll just be needing to rip flamethrower until it falls.

waxen tapir
glacial skiff
#

Hoodra is mainly sent in to deal with SpA attackers so Wave is useless into it, Pult isn't scared of it, Garchomp isn't scared of it and you'll get to just slam Hydreigon, Moon, Kommo-o, and wake with an OHKO if they come in on Moth.

waxen tapir
#

also can I slap tspikes on glowking to help with breaking?

glacial skiff
#

Yeah, its mainly replacing slack off.

#

With Fiery Dance at +1 it does hella a lot to hoodra from memory so you'll cripple it but likely lose specs in the process.

glacial skiff
#

Yeah, but generally speaking Hoodra will be switching into FDance to prevent something else from eating a DGleam.

waxen tapir
glacial skiff
#

Yeah, so they'll eat the FDance, you'll get the boost and put them in a lovely "oh shit" situation where they have to send something else in to take a major smack of like 70%, a sack, or let Hoodra take way too much to force you out (or trade with Knock)

waxen tapir
glacial skiff

Probably not, but getting Hoodra outta the way does make Glowking more threatening with Ice Beam and allows you to actually break with DGleam.

quasi rock
# humble rock https://pokepast.es/a19bfddd86eb47e0 hey y'all just started playing competitive ...

Good points:

Ground type
Has some scarf user (tho Sal isnt really ideal since it takes too much from stealth rocks)

Bad points:

Too much tailwind, not much mons truly take advantage of it because they arent strong enough (except for Zard-Y, and it usually is fast enough to do what it does)
No steel type. Kinda makes it so that something like triple axel meowscarada just comes in and goes meow >:3 on the team. Also Mega Diancie to some extent
No defog. Makes Char-Y kinda just. Like. Die when stealth rocks is set (you take 50%)
awkward speedtiers (probably mitigated by too much tailwind, but if we drop tw for more useful moves then the speed is awkward)

humble rock
#

I've been only playing for about a week and I really need help

quasi rock
#

Uh as for changes tho, it depends.

if you wanna keep Mega Zard-Y, you would really need defog (likely on gliscor). Then you could make Zapdos-G a scarf user (uturn / Close Combat / Brave Bird / Knock is fine). Salamence could be Dragonite with Dragon Dance/Band to complement Zard-Y attacking from Special side. Speaking of Zard Y, you usually prefer Focus Blast/Scorch Sands over Air Slash to bully Steel Mono more and Roost over protect (more longevity). Flamethrower is also as strong than HeatWave and doesnt miss

Togekiss could be replaced by any of the steel birds (Skarm for PhysDef [+ Hazards, like Spikes], Corv for mixDef [+Defog and uturn], or Celesteela [Decently offensive and customizable depending on what you want])

#

Thundurus could just be thund-t or what you have now, nasty plot is great on it with Hidden Power Ice / Thunderbolt/ Grass knot for Fly and Water teams. Tho if you go Skarm you would probably want Assault Vest Tornadus-T (for sponging some ice moves + more pivoting).

glacial skiff
#

That being said, Skarm/Corv are much more defensive than Steela and if you want to keep being offensive, than Steela is what you would be using.

#

And you would want to drop Gliscor for one of the Landorus formes.

humble rock
#

Thank you so much

Run a better TSpike mon. Sadly this team as awhole is running sub optimal sets on mostly sub optimal mons.
The only mon here that I would actually recommend for most standard Poison teams is Sneasler and its close to be a good Sneasler set, just run boots or a choice item > Rocky Helmet, Dire Claw > Gunk Shot and depending on your item Fake out/Throat Chop/Rock Slide for Sneasler's last move (fake out on boots, Rock Slide on Scarf, Throat on either Scarf or Band)

#

But otherwise.
AMuk outclasses Skuntank.
Gengar, Toxtricity, and Salazzle are all outclassed by Iron Moth. (Gengar and Salazzle have niches over moth, but in terms of just raw buttons, Moth is better.)
Dragagle is outclassed by Galarian Slowking in terms of being a bulky SpD tank capable of setting TSpikes (granted, you don't usually invest on Glowking since Iron Moth is mainly doing special breaking)
There is no long term Ground Immunity or hazard removal here.
There is no Phys Def wall here.
There is no SpD wall here.

For the mons themselves:
Roaring Moon should be the Choice Scarf set, DDance Moon is kind of hard to get going and Scarf checks a lot of problematic threats for Dragon such as Choice Specs Flutter Mane.
Walking Wake I like as a boots pivot on Dragon with Water STAB (Scald is my personal pleasure) Flame, Knock, and Flip Turn.
(I have to quickly pause here, I'm about to go grab dinner)

personally i really like using ddance sets due to how it feels like i do a lot more damage and have more sweep potienal, but i see why choice scarf set may be better

Dragon really wants that speed from moon. Pult is too weak to really get a lot of the targets moon can.

#

Phys def archa is right, but should have leftovers, flash cannon, stealth rock, and TWave alongside body press in my opinion.

#

Hoodra wants to max out HP as it's more so a physical attacker relying on knock, heavy slam (OHKOs flutter and allows it to beat CM Primarina), and dragon tail. I prefer leftovers with protect but if you want to run AV you can run earthquake or minus speed nature with Draco meteor.

# glacial skiff I'm looking at this and this reads at a Natdex stall water. Needs more boots and...

What would the builds for these be tho? I understand that gastrodon and recover is more reliable than wish for swampert, but I don’t think it’s a clear swap? I mean I have 2 other SpD tanks in toxapex and empoleon. And I like the use of roar with swampert. I’ve won a few games based on roar + hazards alone. So it’s just a mix of preference and ignorance of gastrodon’s potential build. And I’m guessing you’ve suggested mantine for the same more reliable recovery. But I do feel like rotom with status spreading and pivot works well for this team. But again, just preference and ignorance

glacial skiff
#

The current pex is phys def, and a majority of Electric-types are special attackers.

#

With Mantine, it is basically that, but its also a great SpD tank with access to haze and is usually the main Defogger of stall water if they somehow need it.

urban granite
#

Alongside empoleon

glacial skiff
#

Pex is mainly meant to sponge against physical attackers and a majority of Special grasses can be checked well by mantine and Empoleon as well.
A lot of Stall water builds rely on hazard stacking up with Gastro's Spikes + Empo's SR, keeping hazards up through the threat of Competitive.

#

Its a lot of boots spam.

#

So reliable recovery is very important to the archtype.

urban granite
#

For clarification. This is an actual archetype to use right? Drop hazards and stall until hazards/status win the game

Yeah.

Thankyou

I'm still a beginner trying to improve, this is the first Monotype game I've ever made. Can anyone help me and tell me what I can improve?

The team in its current state feels at odds with itself.

#

Pelipper + Skewda don't really mix with Milotic and Empoleon that well as the rain duo are trying to make it more offensive while defensive duo are doing their damnest to park the bus.

#

Azu also don't really work on water that well due to how competitive slots are and on rain especially, it parking the bus too long for a chance to setup while not breaking what it really needs to here (hi Dragon)

#

Also Pert here is just, not good. While it is a good mon normally, Pert is too slow to really be an offensive threat.

#

If you wanted it to be a more solid rain. I would drop Milotic, Azu, and Empo for a good special attacker (I like Kingdra, but others use guys such as Greninja, Wake, Primarina) and some sort of alternative threat that improves MUs where Barraskewda can struggle such as Hisuian Samurott whose Ceaseless edge helps break through sturdy guys like Archaludon that Barraskewda hates.

#

For the rain parts we would be keeping. Skewda should drop Aqua Jet for Psychic Fangs (deals with the Poisons that are its biggest problem in Toxapex, Amoonguss, and Water Absorb Clodsire) and Swampert prefers to be a slower bulkier guy with max HP and SpD, Earthquake, Stealth Rock, Flip Turn, and Knock Off along with Torrent for the ability (damp kinda sucks, theres no good explosion users in the tier)

#

So in the end you would end up with something like Peli, Skewda, Pert, Special guy, Samu-H, last (Can be a second special guy, another physical treat, or something else like Tenta/Pex for bulk since they can offer a fair bit to rain despite parking the bus)

Hey @trail shore, it looks like you're trying to share a gen9nationaldex team, but I didn't find any raters for that format in this channel. Try posting in #1059714627384115290 instead.

# pseudo gale one thing that completely walls this is mostly ogrepon and im def considering us...

You're walled or at least struggling vs flying and steel. Ogerpon doesn't wall you at all, you just click between band Dpulte, SR, Archa, Moon against it. Anyway, you're lacking a choice scarf user. Ground you don't really have weapons against it to prevent it from dropping hazards and clicking STAB Earthquake/EarthPower (Latios isn't a long term switch in since hazards + other moves and Mamoswine)
Generally Latios if not specs likes to drop at least dragon STAB. You can be 4att with IceBeam + Thunderbolt + Psychicmove (LusterPurge/Psyshock/PsychicNoise) + Earthquake/Aurasphere or be 3att dropping the last move for Recover / Agility. Dark is also a big issue for you quickly.

Here you could go with scarf Dragapult to be sure to have speed advantage and Substitute + Nasty Plot Hydreigon > Moon. I'm suggesting otherwise to drop Walking Wake for either Raging Bolt or Garchomp and definitely change your Latios set, if you wanna keep it.

The team isn't perfect, you have things you can mix to help here and there. But generally Hydreigon is a bulky team destroyer. Scarf Dpult allows to not lose the mirrors. I think you can drop Agility for something else, depending how much you fear fighting (and flying).
