its an issue with the app not registering stuff properly (idk why it does it) you can go to the Oculus driver's folder and manually update your app to try and fix it: Drive its installed on:/Oculus/Support/oculus-drivers then select the .exe in your folder (though if you're able to just run it through steamlink to avoid the app entirely)

Texture sampling is actually quite an expensive operation.

Quest 2 also has an upper "limit" (severe performance problems) of how many texture samplers you can have for each pixel (because that is how textures are sampled, per pixel), don't have it off the top of my head, but toon standard wouldn't want to reach that.

OSC is a very simple protocol and the endpoints for how to make FBT work over it has not changed.

I’ve got a Quest 3 and really want to try full body tracking (mostly for VRChat), but I’m honestly not sure what’s the best way to go about it.

There seem to be a few options like SlimeVR, Vive Trackers, or other setups — but I don’t know which one actually works well with the Quest 3, or what’s worth the price.

What should I look out for (compatibility, setup, cost, etc.)?
And is full body tracking even worth it on the Quest 3, or too much hassle right now?

Would really appreciate any tips or experiences from people who’ve tried it <3

From my experience, full body is worth it (doesnt matter the headset) if youre truly seeking it out. If you want to go somewhat cheaper and still have the fbt experience- SlimeVr is a great choice but vive is recommended since it can have better tracking overall. The Quest 3 is a great headset so any of these options will be a good idea.

I have friends who complain about SlimeVR quite a bit, mostly about how it can’t track (for them at least) when sitting down. Its limited. While on Vive, you have more free range and tracking is better. It’s whatever you want! :) let me know if you have any more questions.

The tracking quality of slimevr is solely based on the user. If the tracking isn't accurate or having issues it's something you might be doing

Whilst sitting issues is likely a calibration you aren't doing correctly

They provide plenty of videoes and they have a pinned channel that will tell you different solutions to fix your issue in detail

Neither vive and Slimevr is perfect so there's no "better than the other"

I had an avatar that had a machine gun that every bullet made a flash using a particle light and it only ever dropped my frames by like 1 or 2 even with multiple people firing then at the same time and i was using a quest 2

Question for any meta quest 3/3s and pro users:
Have y'all ever had the sensors or tracking on your controller's trigger be finikey?

Cus I've been having a issue with mine where it sometimes won't think my finger is resting on the trigger. The 3D hand model in the home menu shows when I'm pressing and letting go of my trigger, but when I just try to rest my finger on the trigger it starts being finikey

That is a common problem, the capacitive sensor likely being too sensitive.
Whenever that happens I either just clean the trigger with some cloth and start tapping it in various ways, eventually it starts working again for the entire session, or I just rub my finger over all of it until it starts working.

I don't know if there is a precise method, but both those have worked for me in the past, removing the battery might work too (but just a guess), with no power it would likely try to do a recalibration of the sensitivity right after starting up.

I used to have this issue even though originally my wifi worked find and it is was indeed a wifi issue

I had to switch my wifi to a 5ghz connection

Update after session: after I grabbed the responses with different ways of how they fixed it, I tried all these in the exact order:

1. Take out the batter in the controller

2. Spray compressed air in and out the trigger (It was a little bit because I ran out)

3. Cleaned the trigger with a wet rag

4. Put the batteries back in, which after doing all that it's been past 30 seconds which means the controller had to have recalibrated.

5. Check the Meta app to see if I needed to update it (I was up to date)

6. Put my headset on with hand tracking to avoid turning on the controller, go to the tracking settings, and turn off hand and body tracking.

7. Look up the tracking frequency of my region which ended up being 60, and set that to my headsets tracking frequency.

8. Restart my headset.

9. While my headset was restarting, made sure my room was bright by turning on theight on my lamp, and ceiling fan.

10. Put the headset back, start rub every part of the trigger with my finger, then tapped and pressed every part off the trigger.

Once I did all that, I finally got on vrc to see how it would work out.

It worked out pretty ok at first (like around 2 hours or less into my session) Although it did happen a few times, but it didn't last for too long because each time it began I started blowing, rubbing, and tapping/pressing every part of the joystick.

From what I've gathered so far is that it seemed to have kind of work because it happened A LOT less than it would, but definitely not full on 100℅ solved.

I can't tell weather it was because I didn't use enough compressed air since it was a little amount, or something else.

I will try to get more compressed air tomorrow, and do the same process.

I highlydoubt compressed air will do anything, worst case it will just break it if there are any wires or other things to be knocked loose.
It is a capacitive thing, which means it is just wires connected to the trigger itself and it is simply detecting the differing conductivity of your finger when it is in contact with the trigger.

Dust being in some nook won't stop it from working, only a layer of dust on the part you are touching would do that.

There isn't much that changes that equation, but could honestly just be yet another example of Meta's shoddy firmware, would explain how common it is.

I have a new controller arriving next week so I'm willing experiment with this, and with the recent announcement of the new Steam Frame headset coming sometime in 2026 I believe?

It definitely gives me some type of alternative headset to look forward to that is (hopefully) cheaper than the valve index, but also better than the Meta Quests.

So that way if it is a firmware issue I'll have something to look forward to when I completely stop using Meta stuff

Im not sure if anyone can help me or not but I am trying to use my quest 2 through steam link and then have that sync up with my base stations so I can use my index controllers and vive trackers for full body. When I connect my quest through steam link, no matter what I do steam vr will not recoggnise that my base stations at all, im not sure what to do.

Mine was doing this in steam link because I was launching the game while remotely controlling the computer desktop instead of launching the game from steam's VR hub. For steam, click the menu button on the left controller to bring up steam's VR menu. There you can launch the game. I don't know if virtual desktop makes a difference but you shouldn't be launching vrchat from the desktop or else it will put you in non VR mode no matter what you select

I believe what happens there is the shader is converted to the non-outline version. And if it's going to convert to a different but very similar shader, why not just give us the other shader too?

Hello - so my quest pro is not tracking eye or face all of a sudden. Its jittery too. I checked vrcft, reset osc, and also factory reset my pro. Still no luck. It also doesn't work in meta horizon home. However, eye calibration does work when I test it. For example, my eyes track fine when I move the calibration orb around. Its almost like my face tracking works while in the menu. Idk if it had time do with the latest update 83. Any ideas? My sensors seem to work, when I point the phone camera st the headset, I see the blue ir signsls

Blade & sorcery nomad (thanks to a mod) as well rec room have them
Rec room is extremely unoptimized too (very low quality shadows), and on blade & sorcery it runs fine on high quality + multiple mods
