Mocopi works, but isn't good at all.
SlimeVR works and you can run the server on your headset or phone, but it is overall a bit too jank for me to recommend, but if you are willing to learn and deal with its downsides then it is your best choice.

Thr age verification is a good thing and should have been implemented a long time ago. It's important to keep kids safe, plus I've see you all, I've seen some vile bullying in public lobbies. If it were up to me no one under 16 would even be allowed on the game. since that's a bit unreasonable and there is genuine good in kids hanging out with people their own age, I can only hope that this age verification isn't super easy to bypass or spoof.

Verified players will be able to communicate, if your verified there's a better chance Your actually the age you say you are. It's not perfect, but I'd rather be blasted with a water hose then a fire hydrant.

Think about it, it's putting a roadblock which will verify your age and put you in the right age groups. If you don't choose to participate in this, then blocking communication for that player would allow them to still play the game but if they are a pedo, they cannot take advantage of children if they can't talk to them or communicate with them, or at least it is much harder. Again it's not perfect but it's better then just letting everyone intermingle.

Mipmapping is such a double edge sword. On one hand, the lower resolutions do help with framerate, more often then not it adds a lot to VRAM usage especially if your starting with large textures already.

Mipmapping also helps just making textures not look awful at a distance, that is their primary purpose and why you shouldn't turn them off.

I don't personally see the VRAM trade off to be worth it. Then again I use super large atlas for my avatars on quest.

So that's likely making mipmapping harder. Or not... not sure.

It is making a noticeable difference on PC with my 3060ti, that only has 8GB of VRAM.

Quest being limited to 4GB of overall RAM/VRAM on Q2 and 6GB on Q3 (pressumably) means it should make quite a major difference to minimum performance at least, it is almost like adding swap to Quest, since every texture now isn't entirely in RAM anymore.

Basically, go find a vrchat group that does the things you want to do and hold meetups or scheduled events overall, those groups will be the best places to start.

Why are all my Quest avatars textures so unbelievably compressed?

It lowered the amounts of RAM textures take up, which is very important for performance on Quest.

Unfortunately this also seems to mean that the textures get super compressed if too much is loaded in.

You can't do anything about it aside from loading in less stuff for now until it is fixed.

that's unlikely to get fixed as that's likely caused by the new mipmap streaming system which disables higher quality versions of textures when you're low on RAM to prevent the headset from crashing

Yeah, the feature lowers texture quality to lower RAM usage, a very important thing on Quest.
What is seemingly happening is that it wasn't tuned correctly for Quest 2 and assumes it is almost always out of RAM, which tbf isn't entirely incorrect, the Quest 2 has a tiny amount of RAM.

If you go to a simpler world you should be able to load in more avatars before quality drops.

Kind of, but not really, texture quality has never had much of a performance impact, all that matters is if you have enough VRAM for it.
Quest doesn't even have VRAM, its RAM and VRAM are the same, 4GB is all VRChat has to play with (my graphics card has twice that amount) and can't even make use of the storage, like a PC could, to stop crashing.

only quality issue ive seen recently is the visual textures bug which is something they're working on fixing, anything security check wise isnt vrchat setting new restrictions but enforcing the ones they've had for many months on really old models
