PSA for Steam Link Quest VR users

Heya, so it's slowly coming to our attention that more and more people who use the Quest platform of VR headsets and connect to PC through steam Link are encountering error 200 when trying to connect to their PC. There seems to be no current fix that solves the issues, but Valve seems to be unaware that it's happening, so I'm starting to post everywhere I can to let people know if the encounter this issue, please submit a steam support ticket or bug report, this is not an isolated bug and it's happening to lots of people.

This issue is also happening to us, but our headset is on RMA right now, so I can't do further testing

turn off your headset, then press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously until the boot screen loads. Then use the volume buttons to highlight the “Factory reset” button and press the power button to select it.

if that dosent work then try going to Headset Settings then tap Advanced Settings. Tap Factory Reset and then Reset.

it wont delete any data on your headset: you’ll just have to log back into your oculus account

Okay, just saw that my storage has lots of space left. I only have 4 apps, including VRChat. The other are meta help, vr animation, and the Meta Horizon. I also did every app under the 3 papers to delete the saved data. Still stuck under connecting.

Okay I have the quest 3 now with virtual desktop and full body I have been having these super weird lag issues like I have never experienced before even with the quest 2 it never happened but basically when I move my head to fast or i am dancing I get random lag spikes like it freezes for a second and goes back and only started recently and I am not sure what to do.

Quest 3 tracking is a little wonky. Im sure they’ll fix it in the future, it’s been an issue for a little while. Try not moving too fast or
it’ll mess up the tracking. I recommend quest 2 for full body tracking though if you can!

In case your wondering what strap to get for the Quest 3, the S3 Pro is by a mile the best head strap for any VR headset ever.

The new higher capacity batteries just make it even better.

By the way don't buy the BoboVR C2 carrying case for the S3 or the quest 3 in general, it fit but the controllers are not secure, it was designed for the Quest 2

None of them can get subtitles from youtube just fyi, so your options are any of the ones that support pasting in subtitles, which is all the major ones to my knowledge.
The subtitles you will have to get yourself from somewhere.

As for syncing the singing (for the listeners, the singers will be out of sync always), I don't think there is any available prefab, but there are worlds that do adjust things to make things line up, like this one https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_875fc786-c021-48cf-9bbe-acd0cf405d29, the video attached to the world page goes through why having a video player that adjust for this is very nice to have.

Most people don't need 256GB unless you want to store "videos" on your Quest for watching.
VRChat takes up the install size + 20GB for cache and when it comes to games there is cloud saving so you don't need games to stay installed, not that any even take up that much space though.

Also, a 256GB Quest 2 just puts you closer to the cost of a Quest 3 which is just better and also handles VRChat better.

Well it mostly depends on what you feel comfortable with buying. The quest 3 loads faster, has a WAY better graphics card and lens than the quest 2. Passthrough mode is also better because you can do mixed reality games ( and see better with pass though mode than the quest 2) and the lens are pancake lenses which are better than the quest 2 (helps you see more clearly) and has the scroll wheel for the lenses so you can adjust the lenses perfectly with your eyes so they don’t hurt your eyes once you take the headset off . You also have hand tracking with some games which is awesome. Personally for your first headset I would just get the quest 3 because it will definitely last you way longer (because it just came out not that long ago. Which also means they’ll be focusing more on the quest 3 than the quest 2 ANYDAY) OR you could wait to get the quest 3 lite which is going to be 200-300 US dollars when it releases. The quest 2 is starting to get old, and there probably going to stop doing updates on it once they finish the quest 3 lite.

I am SO happy to have made the upgrade to Quest 3. The whole design of it is just better than the 2. No matter what I did to augment my Quest 2 with special headstraps, cushions, etc., it always still felt like such a brick on my face. The Quest 3 does not feel that way at all and it has very noticeable improvements to graphics and even the tracking/boundary work better on my 3.

Do you know how I can get one? I usually use YT videos that have words on the video itself (made for karaoke videos) vs subtitles, so that wouldn't be an issue. I just don't know where to find ones that are compatible with VRC and portable via Unity.

the quest 3 is worth it, especially if you don't have a PC. It comes with more powerful processing compared to the quest 2, higher resolution display, better lenses, there's an IPD slider instead of 3 presets, color passthrough (mixed reality), upper body tracking, and multi-modal hand tracking (basically means your hands are still being tracked even when using controllers)

and meta has confirmed that the quest 3 has a higher retention rate than their previous headsets

Some kids are fine and know what not to do and know what they can do. Other kids (the unsupervised ones) shouldn’t be on the game.

If you are using a Quest, make sure it is updated and reboot. If that doesn't fix it, try signing in with Oculus vs VRC. This happened to me and I could only log in with Oculus. The VRC login just hung and left a black box.

I'm not sure if there's any hard case on the market that can hold the S3 pro that was designed for the quest 3. I think the C2 can but it's designed for the quest 2, and hence the controllers don't fit properly. I hope BoboVR make a C3 for the quest 3 soon.

A shot in the dark here but maybe somebody else had had or heard of this issue before. My bf and I recently moved in together and both have quest fbt. The first week we played vr together we didn't have any issues. But now our trackers are not wanting to stay connected to steamvr when both headsets are on. We have 4 basestations. It works when one headset turns on but the moment the second headset gets turned on and connected to steamvr all of our trackers lose connection to the computers. They will connect and then disconnect, showing a flashing symbol for the trackers in the steamvr hud and will not stay connected. Does anybody have any solutions to this issue? Much Appreciated to any help! ❤️

I’ve just set up quest in mixed VR and I’ve attached a htc tracker on the back of it for continuous tracking. It’s all working well except for one small thing. The left shoulder and elbow of all my avatars is jacking up. I think it’s possibly that when I calibrate FBT it’s trying to attach the head tracker to part of the body? Is there a way in VRchat to ignore this tracker? I didn’t have time to troubleshoot before work

Hello! this is a PSA. i have now confirmed that the SteamVR Steamlink connection bug is not an isolated incident. If you use a Meta, or Wireless VR headset capable of connecting to steamVR via steamlink, and you have been unable to connect recently due to connection timeouts, this is not an isolated bug, please make a bug report through steam support. my entire household of VR users is unable to use steamlink properly, on top of which, i just did a completely fresh install of windows and the issue still persists, i have also heard reports from other communities and several forum threads that this is not an isolated incident. if you are experiencing this issue please report it to steam, if you know someone else who is experiencing this issue, please encourage them to report the issue to steam. a reminder as well, just because this isn't happening to you DOES NOT MEAN IT ISN'T HAPPENING, and replying saying "i am not experiencing these issues" is not helpful

And haven’t broken the rules till now. The reason I was banned was for having a custom skinned made for me to keep pedos out. best thing to do is to not ban evade and just wait it out so you dont risk an even more severe punishment, as annoying as it can be missing time you could be in-game. evading a false ban is still very risky and TOS

avatars will usually list there performance ranking when you select them, and avatars with bad performance can't be shown on quest without manually clicking each time. and yes, its intentionally left that way, since very poor avatars aren't meant to even be allowed on quest (and will likely be removed or limited soon)
