I am using the oculus quest 2 and I have not been able to sit down using the seated mode toggle button in the UI. Whenever I click it, it just makes my knees slightly bend. Is there a fix for this ? I am also using OVR but I’m don’t think this is linked to the issue I’m having.

For some it can be, but generally no. It is still reliant on your wifi network being solid.

It is however more stable in another way, because Quest updates would have to mess up basic functionality to break it, whereas pretty much every Quest update breaks some part of Link/Airlink, somehow.

It would prolong the battery life, assuming the power source is sufficient.

I use virtual desktop and a 25W wall wart and while it doesn't charge, you could play for a bit over half a day before it ran out.

Well tbf, they used the best mobile hardware available, problem is just that current mobile hardware simply lack the ability to quickly do transparency and use the same efficient avatar haptics algorithm.

it actually uses command buffers, not transparency. but the Quest GPU also doesn't like the way that command buffers run (tile-based GPU problems rear their head once again) so enabling them tanks perf badly, like FPS cut in half. 😦

Rumor was most likely started because the open beta for Quest was pretty much copy pasted from the PC version, which doesn't have those limits.

They really didn't go in depth on how it worked and it did turn out to be faked, but seems like it might just be AI generated, so like "Standable" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWaGTpaorMs, but natively on Quest and potentially a bit better since Standable was made by a single guy.

So in theory the VRChat devs could implement it as a replacement IK for the Quest version, maybe. However, since "Meta" said it used machine learning it could be absolutely terrible unless you are standing, or sitting in a office chair, assuming it is even good in the first place.

It is an algorithm that takes the known points (headset and controllers) and then guesses where the bones on the avatar should be, it understandably cannot guess where your legs are since there is pretty much no data to go off. With standard full body (hip and feet trackers) it is still using the IK to guess where your knees and chest would be.

Theoretically the most it can do is be a better IK, as Standable shows off, and purely hypothetically they could use the cameras to try and detect your legs, but that would obviously only work when you are looking at your legs, I doubt you'd want calculation like these running on your headset right now, they would degrade performance, probably quite significantly.

However, if you only want trackers that do not rely on any "external sensors" (so by my definition, things like lighthouses setup around your room) then SlimeVR and HaritoraX exist, but both still require VRChat to be running in SteamVR, since nothing else supports full body tracking. Their trackers can sense rotation and can use that to create a virtual skeleton, which can be used for full body tracking.

I have glasses and astigmatism too but it doesn't seem to be a problem with the oculus. It comes with a spacer but ik some people who don't use the spacer and it's still fine. Prescription lenses are also available but im not sure how all that works, as I don't have them. If you need glasses to see properly though, you will have to wear them with the headset.

Also when I first started experiencing it I was super tired and chilling with some friends. So while it might not be the healthiest thing I'd say having a bit of a "sleep high" is a fantastic way to kickstart it

Avatars are ranked by a performance ranking system, vast majority of people do not put any effort into it and Quest's performance rankings are much stricter than PC (for very obvious reasons).

For most avatars you will have to open the quick menu (single short-press menu button) and with other hand click on someone, there you can "show avatar".
By default only "medium" ranked avatars and above are automatically shown, in safety settings you can make it automatically show "poor" avatars as well, however "very poor" avatars have to be manually shown.

And if you are using Virtual Desktop then there is basically no reason to to use the Oculus PC store version so, not really an issue.

it's better to get a avatar with something like gogoloco inside of it. with that you can make your avatar play a laying down animation, and adjust it with the height slider. it allows you to raise yourself and lower yourself to your needs.

i use it, even though it's not up to date it does everything i need it to do. works very well

there's avatars out there with other types of locomotion systems but most likely most of them will have gogo loco.

if yours doesn't have it, try and find one that has what you need it to look like and then check out the expressions menu. if you can see this icon as a expression that's the menu for it.

No, you just use one of several methods to connect it to your computer, all of which basically dumbs the headset down into being a wired/wireless PCVR headset.

The official methods being:

Quest Link, which uses any USB 3.0 cable (that supports data and isn't trash tier) to connect your PC and Quest.

Airlink, wireless version of Quest Link that uses your WiFi router (has nothing to do with your internet speeds) instead of a cable. Your computer and router should very much be connected to each other using ethernet cable and your router needs to support 5Ghz (not the same as 5G and you'd have to have a very bad router nowadays for it to lack this). However, weather it works well or not depends on a lot of factors, for example: how many other Wifi networks are near you and if your Wifi router's hardware is good enough (very cheap 5Ghz routers could handle a continuous, low latency stream poorly poorly).

The most popular unofficial method is using Virtual Desktop, which is a paid app on the Quest store (and specifically the Quest store version is the one you would want), it is basically Airlink, but with more features and hooks into SteamVR directly, which Airlink and Quest Link doesn't do, so using Virtual Desktop nets you a few % more performance in SteamVR games.

If you want to use Vive tracker for full body tracking then sure, it is possible with Quest 2, just a bit more of a hassle.
But the Quest 2 works fine as a PCVR headset.

To take a solid step up (not outright better, but close enough) then the Valve Index is pretty much your only choice, after that we've got nicher headsets, like Pimax for janky but top of the line specs or the Vive pro eye if you want eye tracking (just beware HTC Vive's inabillity to put a good microphone into their headsets and their ancient controller designs).

Hey anyone else having trouble logging in? I goto login and i get to my authentication and it tells me its an invalid code...when it's the correct one. Will this work ONLY on my quest account vrchat account?

No, not going to change, hardware has to get better before they could even think of changing it, or they could block crunch compression.

Don't get why they haven't removed that from the Quest built yet, it is a remnant from the PC build.

Turn on in oculus settings then move controls away or off then it should auto turn on for quest but it might not work to well from my experience

Yeah it's being dumb. I turn it on and then my hands in game don't move.

Try moving the controls where they can't see the headset or when they fall asleep it should just auto switch to hand tracking if enabled

Atleast does this with the quest 2 not sure about quest 1

Once I get the controllers turned off, the hand tracking stops working as soon as I go into VrChat but works again when I'm in the menu.

oh it does need the cameras for the main tracking but I don't get why they just freeze when placed behind you, I don't get why the controllers have no sense of tracking without the cameras

the controllers should still be able to tell "ah, I have moved this way" on a basic scale

The controllers I think they have like a little sensor so if the sensor is not in front of them then it will just freeze where your ass so you won’t know what you’re doing but if you have a camera from behind and it will know what you’re doing so maybe that’s the reason I’m not sure

get into your settings, and search for "hand tracking" in the search bar at the top. You'll just need to click a button and you're done! If it's the first time activating it, you'll be "teleported" in a tutorial inside the quest to explain on how it works
