• uses Blender's built in average islands scale
• optionally scales up textures attached to the head
• then packs everything, keeping the relative scale of the islands consistent

So, same effect, but with some extra possibilities

Define. Because animations are anything that moves. A gun draw is just as much a animation as invisibility. The quest doesn't have the capability for complex... anything.

Additive & subtractive particles aren’t actually transparency, they’re “blending modes”, like how in photoshop you have “multiply” & “screen”. Blending modes are handled by a different rendering process than transparencies, and run much smoother on Quest.

That being said, the effect is not identical to true transparency; it’s more like translucency.

Particles are good for creating glass & water effects that are Quest compatible; but are bad for things like hair & leaves, which have a lot of overlapping geometry.

I'm assuming if others on Quest allow animations, they will see your fallback's action layer, but if they have animations blocked, they'll see your PC verson's action layer (as transmitted by network IK)

Oh, I see what you’re saying. Even if the avatar used on pc is from a public world, your avatars will respect your setting to allow public cloning or not. If your fallback avatar is private and the pc avatar is from a public world, the fallback won’t be clone-able regardless.

Assuming you are in android mode, yes. Also update your SDK, the rating system has changed. That info might be out of date.

I don't think 12 materials was ever medium. so I have a feeling you are currently building for windows. You need to build for android to have quest support.

quick question for making quest avatars. I know that it has to be under 20k polys but does the overall avatar size have to be under 10mb? the texture on the one i have is 10.7mb and i dont know if that will affect it?

also, my avatars lighting seems to change every time my model blinks or does a face animation and i dont know why. Is there something in the settings that i have to change in order to stop that?

There’s some weird unity setting, pretty much find your model in your project tab, select it, in the inspector click the model tab and find “enable legacy blendshape normals” (im pretty sure that’s what it’s called) and make sure it’s enabled, then apply

That looks fine? Looks like you did Reproject, which uses Blender's smart UV projection

If you want better islands, generally you'll wanna unwrap islands yourself. Dev version of Bake lets you make a new UV Map named 'Target', and it'll bake from whatever UV Map you're using to that for cleaner islands

However a key difference on Quest is users cannot see Very Poor avatars unless they click Show avatar on users who have them.

Yeah, both cloth physics and dynamic bones are blocked by VRChat's Quest restrictions. The only way to get something to move without user input is to create animators, which will quickly push the avatar into the Very Poor tier and have it hidden by default

Since there isn't a Quest-compatible cutout shader, you'll have to paint it onto the underlying mesh. In this case, the eyeline and eyebrows would have to be painted directly onto the face texture.

The only thing I can think of that would allow that is some type of manipulation of particle colliders, or uploads from a modified SDK. As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been any mentioned changes for support of dynamic bones or their colliders.

It sounds like those avatars are designed to specifically work with that world's components. Physics objects are allowed in worlds so it's possible that's how they got it to work.

Android Build Support is what you need. It's a module when you install Unity. If you have Unity Hub you can just modify the install then check off the box and it will download and include the module.

I have a Windows avatar, but since i wanted to make it so quest users can see it too i made a new unity project with only the avatar (no custom animations/objects ect), i uploaded it but now i got 2 different avatars in game (wich is normal) but i can't actually equip the second one (the quest one) on windows

You can bake ambient occlusion to your texture color or vertex colors for a decent effect.

It'll show up on the mobile toon lit shader.

Pair that with some soft gradients and there's plenty of room for stylistic choices even with no shader features.

Mesh outlines can substitute for shader outlines as well and you can apply the VRC Mobile Matcap material to them for some decent flare. (I just use solid black)

You can't do shader outlines, but you can do mesh outlines like my example just above. Scroll up a bit.

As far as backface culling, you can't toggle it, but you can export a mesh with flipped normals. That's how the mesh outline works.

hey, has anyone found a way to make multiple clothing toggles work on quest avatars without separating each piece into its own skinned mesh?

You will have to be extremely frugal with your use of polygons, but you could technically assign entire copies of your mesh to bones that swap their scale when you want to swap outfits.

You basically cut your polycount limit in half every time you add another outfit. Other than that if your "outfit" is merely a texture swap, you might be able to do some tomfoolery with animating UV offset parameters to essentially scroll your outfit into position. It's not worth the hassle tbh just make multiple avatars.

You won't have to make a separate armature, just a few empty bones somewhere in the head I suppose. Their sole purpose would be to scale whatever hair mesh you want to hide, so long as the hair meshes themselves aren't tied to IK of course.

Yeah just select all vertices and add them to a vertex group with the same name as the bone. They'll be weighted 100%.

Do this with a separate bone for each hair mesh and then you can animate their scales to get them to swap out.

Make the animations single frame and it's basically an object toggle without separating the meshes.

You can do FBT with a quest 2, you just have to buy additional equipment (vive trackers, base stations, etc.) Several videos on youtube about it

Hi and good afternoon people. I'm trying to switch to android 'mode' in Unity to build a Quest compatible avatar, but it seems to hang indefinitely after recompiling all the scripts. I got assets like Dynamic Bones, Muscle editor, Poiyomi shaders imported into the project. I understand that I might not be able to upload using assets like dynamic bones and poiyomi shaders(?), but is it maybe these assets that halts the build or is it something that I'm missing? It would be a lot easier to make future modifications having only one project instead of two
