So I joined the only quest available skyloft world (from Loz:ss) And skyloft was really small, but when my PC friends joined it was the right size for them but still small for me and they looked like they were floating, does anyone know what the Problem is?

URGENT: for quest user a large map causes texture flickering what is the cause of this?

for example we are at point 0 once you keep moving away from point 0 and get farther and farther texture flickering really hard.
Far clip being set too far, and near clip being set too close can cause this. The quest is weak and can't render far distances without causing float point errors. You'll see this as meshes/textures wobbling/flickering.
Ensuring your geometry is as close to the zero point as possible, and ensuring that the Far/near clips aren't set too high will fix this issue typically, though, depending on the world, it may not be possible to get rid of it entirely. Doesn't help that the quest lacks AA as well so jagged lines will often flicker at a distance.
If setting your far clip lower causes things in your map to cull to the skybox or whatever you have set as the clear on the camera, use fog to hide this. Almost all quest shaders support fog fine (aside from Matcap Lit and maybe one more) and it's a near negligible impact to performance.
Smart use of occlusion culling can help as well as using LOD groups as well to keep what is being rendered to an absolute min.

It’s still quest compatible, just the stuff you updated for pc will only be available for the pc platform

all restrictions you will find are most likely outdated. your best bet is to occassionally ask "is blank ok?"
however if you need additional help or resources for sdk 3 quest or just basic stuff. i have a server for that

if anything, i highly suggest start doing sdk 3 as most assets and such are meant for sdk 3 now. but ye mastosis baretum just means console descentralization
Oh I would use SDK3 anyways, I feel like using SDK2 at this point is just setting yourself up for obsolescence, I remember when SDK3 first came out stuff already broke in a couple worlds I'd made before, even a very basic particle system for rain drops

well qvpens werent made for quest first off. and the community edition i think was remade for pc only for a while and were usually lucky if quest people survived
but it sounds like to me that the world arent sync. i suggestputing a cube down and making sure the cube is in the same spot both on quest and pc

Oculus or vrchat on vr is just not downloading full vrchat worlds it downloads not all the mb like japans shrine is 82+ the quest just downloads 13mb or so, so basically I don’t see any details it’s looks really bad . Is there a way to download all the mb so I would get the full detail world ?

@half palm The bug in the Uno world occurs after the first card is played. Instead of finishing the turn and moving onto the next player, the card disappears entirely from the game, even though the card count for the given player remains at 7. If you reset the cards for that player, that first card does not return to the player's podium. Any further cards played aren't registered at all by the game, so you're stuck at turn one unless the players keep drawing forever.

world uses unsupported shader "Legacy Shaders: Diffuse"
but it doesn't from as far as i can see
i literally went through every damn material in my asset folder and found nothing that used it

The reflection probes changed in unity but once i uploaded it the reflections weren't box projections
so no it didnt work and i assume there isnt a way to do it since most really nice quest worlds also have regular reflection probes in them
✌️ hello everybody! So i want to upload my pc world to android. It has currently 145mb. Android max. is 50mb. If i delete some stuff in the android build and uplaod it, it does not effect my pc world, right? I'll keep triggers, players etc.
So much work -.- But i want that everybody can have the same experience
correct however you can compress lightmaps/texture/etc instead if you feel it optimized
ps: networked arrays and such on the android varient can cause issues which is why im suggesting trying to compress everything first

Yeah I often just use normal mirror if there is an option cause it don’t lag my game so mirrors can be used fine on quest
So i got my world for pc and and android. Both in different folders. If i add objects to the pc version. Or anything else, what is the best way to copy this to the android version? Do i have to go into the folder it self and select the new changes and move it to the android folder?

is the compression on quest maps different from the windows build?
or dose it just force compression on texturtes and stuff
it technically doesn't Force compression but practically it does because of the file size limit so you need to compress your textures
textures on quest will use etc based compression by default, where as on windows it uses dxt, if you were wondering about the actual compression formats.
and its generally recommended to use astc compression on quest if your texture has artifacts/banding issues.

remove all the trees generated by terrain, this seems to solve my issue on quest 2 performance, add a few as a object rather than with the terrain tool, this just for aesthetics.

a theory i have is that if you upgrade a world. the default override for android conversion for the resource assets are set to something wonky which can cause bloating in the newer unity change as they semi changed the default system: specifically how swtiching between platforms is handled, which is why thats faster now

If I put my quest 2 on gpu level 4 I can run 90hz and get 40-60fps in most worlds
Only thing that lags for me is when there’s lots of avatars with red stats

My world renders invisible on Quest while it is fine on PC. I swear it worked not even a week ago and when I tested the 2019 Open Beta.
Are there specific shaders or bake settings that I should avoid to keep my world from disappearing?
Everything is using Standard Lite and the entire world is 2 mesh, with 4 other mesh in each corner of the snowglobe.

also you might need to try reimporting the sdk preferably the most recent

It's the same project as PC. I even use Standard Lite on the PC version because it was easier that way.
I'll try to tinker a bit. Worlds been needing updates for a while now so might just start from scratch.

Hi! So im new to Unity and world building. (Im on SpookyGhostBoo's patreon so the Attic Prefab is theirs.) But how the heck do i fix this? also on my android build EVERYTHING was pitch black except for 2 candle flames. i managed to find my way to my mirror button and i could see the room in the mirror but ONLY in the mirror.
As you can see, the box for "Generate UV lightmaps" is already checked.. everything in this room is a part of a single prefab scene.. all i have done is remove a few objects i didnt want/need, compressed textures to optimize, and changed all the shaders i could from "standard" to "VRChat-Mobile-Standard Lite" because i intend on making this world for quest. (i am a quest user.. my PC cant handle VR currently) Oh also.. my string lights no longer "light" up/ give off light.. Oof i need help baaad...
did you by chance set your texture compression settings to something with DXT in its name? DXT compression will not work on quest, and you'll want to use the ETC equivalent instead.

There are 3 compression types that will be of interest to you for quest builds
RGB/RGBA Compressed ETC2 - the default format
RGB/RGBA Crunched ETC2 - crunched compressed format for best file size with the trade off of lower quality
RGB(A) ASTC - Use this if your textures show up with lots of artifacts/bandings, typically for lightmaps. Lower block size has better quality but larger filesize
Pick RGBA if your texture has transparency, otherwise RGB
so i noticed you could use DXT1 and 5 on the android build now and saw you said to not use it. but what are the current issues of using it? it seems to do a pretty good job at shrinking textures

most of them were using an exploit that was patched not too long ago. but there is a way to legally install a resolving method onto a videoplayer without using exploits. i actually ment to make an example on how to do that yesterday but i had no time

I want to create worlds optimized for quest and I saw something mentioned about only being able to create worlds that are private if you don't have the new user rank, am I able to do that? because frankly that's all I want to do, creating public worlds doesn't interest me too much.

The world is a little over 3x too big for Quest right now and that's with mostly untextured assets, and I'm not confident I can get it under the file size limit. I might make a smaller map, just for Quest users, but that's not happening for a while

Your scene hierarchy needs to be 100% identical across pc and quest versions. Anything omitted on either versions need to still be there in the hierarchy as a game object at the minimum to ensure network id's across each version match. They can be disabled, but they still need to be there.
guess my question is could you have like different mesh renderers on objects between versions if the hierarchy still matches up

Yes, but they really shouldn’t be used. Afaik, they are extremely slow on Quest/mobile, and should really only be used on PC. There are plenty of ofher anime shaders out there that run well on mobile devices, so I would recommend looking around for one of those instead.

note that one similar issue had direct samples down at 2, but here, it is at 32 but the issue persists
I have Generate Lightmap UV's enabled for all my assets
and lastly, all my lights are set to baked
looks compressed, go to your lighting tab, then go to the baked lightmaps tab inside and click on one of the lightmaps and it should take you to the image files for those lightmaps, click on those images and in the inspector, there will be an android icon, click on that icon and click "override" and hit apply and see if this help
It works, but now my lightmap is super huge (9.3MB compared to 2.7MB). Furthermore, the PC version of this world had compressed lightmaps, and it doesn't look bad at all
I think it might be the type of compression that android doesnt like, can you change the type?
on android builds you'll want to use ASTC compression for light maps to avoid those artifacts like banding and off looking colours from showing up. 4x4 block looks the best but the trade off is largest file size. Larger block size trades quality for better compression, so you could try finding a balance that works for you.

twitch streams normally stay active on a raw link for about 30ish minutes before switching. which is why most people actually think live streams donr work on quest but in reality. you just need a way to make sure youre refreshing the resolved link ever so often in world

Hey so .. is there no avoiding this weird lighting/ texture mis-coloration going on? Legit all i did was import the sdk3, udon sharp, then the world, then immediately ported it over to android and this happens. i didnt touch anything. i have no clue how to make it NOT look like this.. like i havent even compressed textures.. like nothing...
Now if i clear the GI cashe ... it "Looks fine" in Unity .... but if i build it and test it in vr (quest 2) it looks horrible still ... i hate that everytime i port anything to android.. it BREAKS... the pc build is fine.

that's fairly common because of the way the lightmaps are compressed for android builds on the default settings. Change your lightmap compression to ASTC. lower blocks have better quality but larger file size.

there are no console errors
when I import or remove something, it works, till I reopen up the Unity with the project

you have vertex colours on the models, you'll want to delete them in blender

GPU instancing would help, but it only works on identical models with the same material

Why does the baked lights on my Quest world look so bad compared to the PC world? I am trying my best to make it look just as good as I can on Quest as PC without Post Processings and all the other features PC can use
change the compression on your lightmaps to ASTC. lower blocks for better quality with larger file size trade off.

Standard just looks better for reflecting and stuff

Well yes, but this comes at a cost. Supporting proper specular reflections, with reflections probes and all that, is pretty expensive to render
Which is why it's best to avoid that on mobile
There's some matcap shaders which are quite a bit faster. But I've never tried those..

I'll look into it, I am also using some shaders that I need a quest user to test to see if it kills their frames or if it is alright, or if it just doesn't show at all...
Those shaders are a rain shader, water shader, TV shader and a carpet/fur shader ;_;
I have high doubts that Quest users will be able to handle those, if they can see them
and if that's the case then I'm going to remove them
Silent's rain and water shaders should work OK on quest.
TV and carpet shaders don't sound essential 😛
But yeah, unless you design your world with cross-platform compatibility in mind from the very beginning, some sacrifices will have to be made

thats just floatpoint errors/zfighting, the best i can say you can do it make everything as close as you can to 000 and make sure that meshes arent too close together
I had to make the world big to work with jets. I think I am going to slower planes added and reduce the speed so I shrink the world.
That sort of thing also happens on PC too, it’s a floating-point number Unity issue, as wood said, no solution other than making it smaller

VRWare is a really good one. There are quite a few others though. Just search up different games that you want to play like tag and you will find them. Muder 2 and 4 are also great Murder Mystery games

That was pushed to the quest build of the game before the ui update, but the SDKs to let you upload those came with the UI update.

i highly suggest trying out “vocaroo.com” for hosting audio files. you can copy the download link from vocaroo and use them in the video and should work right out of the box. they usually reformat anything sent to them into a mp3 so theres no worries for compatibilty issues either

cant you just change the nearclip on the maincamera to 0.001
is the quest nearclip hardstuck at 0.03?
so just put in a ref camera and set it to 0.01 and it should work (unity doesn't allow lower than 0.01)

It is tricky but smooth and fluid... I was the only player in world so Im not sure if it lags with multi users but I had no problems!!
appreciate ur response to it ^^ yeah it still needs few adjustment, tho it is really speedy so its all about timing + height, i had few lobbies with 10+ people at once had no issues / lag what so ever, should be good on those points (i keep my stuff minimalistic without taking quality always)

I'm having a weird issue on my world. It seems when you join an instance of the world for the first time, the audio from the AVPro player doesn't play. However, if your reconnect to either that instance, or a new one, the music plays as intended. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Well firstly start optimizing and cleaning up your PC worlds that you intend to have on Quest
generally try to have less than 100k tris total in the world, coming from my own cap nothing official

It depends what you want to do. If you just want to make an environment you can start watching some blender or pro builder tutorials. There are only a few differences between a quest and pc world. Really as long as your careful with custom shaders you should be fine. I recommend using diffuse (its built into unity and the sdk) as your goto shader for quest. i doubt, its probably identifying you via user id or username, you cannot change your username. If you change it on the website, only a Displayname is being changed

The fact that you are out of the box is kinda sus meaning that Udon is not running on your platform which is often seen by people using an anti-udon enabling client. You should be stuck in the box with the portals and the video, to be out in the world means something strange is going on. I Admin one of the big furry worlds and you don't see people outside the box without something strange to going on.

The reason I'm out the box is because the world creator hasn't updated their quest version in a year
Meaning I can get out on quest but not on pc
Reason: quest version doesn't have it
Also I can barely stay in the quest version because some PC user always has a crasher

As Norsehawk already pointed out, going out of the box isn't a solution. I'm not sure what is happening there, and I do not have a Quest to test, but I'd like to resolve that issue properly. So im trying to upload a world to the quest side and i keep getting the same error in console saying that it can't find a vrcw file for it is there a fix or do i need to restart?
click the error and it will open the Unity console that holds info thats actually useful for troubleshooting

the vrcw file error just means there are errors that cause that error so its essentially useless

I'm looking into making my first world on VR Chat, and I've got an Oculus Quest 2, so I'm paying extra attention to making my world optimized for quest from the beginning. I've seen plenty of sites talk about porting a pc world to oculus, but would it be just as fine to create a world specifically for quest, and then port that to pc?
yes that's a lot less of a headache to make a world with a quest primarily in mind and then port it to PC
as you're not going to scope creep yourself into making a map too big for the quest
