KinectToVR has improved dramatically, but I would imagine the HaritoraX would be dramatically better even so.

Since it does not rely on a camera.

Also, inside out tracking is the future. It is not that the Quest 2 would not be able to connect to Slimes or otherwise, it is that currently, they are not allowed to. And it may not even be technically possible with the current hardware(Slimes had a proof of concept showing it working in Standalone if I am not mistaken, but it required some form of external computer for processing).

But as things progress, there is no reason a standalone headset could not cooperate with standalone FBT solutions.

Base Stations are honestly a bad joke to me.

They may remain as a specialty use case for those who want to mess around trying to get them to work, and maybe they will improve to not be such a messy solution, but not requiring such things I believe is a critical step forward VR needs to make, that the Quest 2 has proved is more than possible.

Yeah. I am grateful that it appears that more headsets are coming out that are ditching the necessity of base stations.

Whether you love these headsets or hate them(pros and cons with each): Lynx-r1 competing with the Quest 2, Pico Neo and Qiyu that are the Chinese versions of the Quest line, the Pico possibly coming to the West eventually considering the acquisiition, Arpara(that has a cool feature that also causes much trouble), MaganeX, perhaps others I am unaware of.

cheap stuff works like cheap stuff. haritorax or slime works good enough but it's nowhere near the capabilities or accuracy that htc or tundra provides

I mean, the Quest 2 I believe was cheaper than both the Reverb G2 and Index and has worked perfectly fine for me for over a year.

And vive trackers do work with base stations pretty okay, sometimes. I think for the most part when I had my index the FBT was not the big problem.

The headset itself was the problem, but I do not think the FBT ever bugged out dramatically outside of when the headset itself had a stroke.

As I said though: Specialty use cases, have them be accessible.

FF Origins Strangers of Paradise seemingly has a lot of framerate (and resolution/visual) issues (especially on consoles), it's because their models are genuinely the worst optimized thing I've ever seen, including stuff like 30mb geometry for (some) common enemies.
