I know of one guy who paid $200 for an avatar upload, and then only a few months later a Unity update broke it. He tried contacting the person he commissioned it from, and their discord had been deleted. Was completely unable to find them again and he had none of the files.

Really sucked for him, but everyone was trying to tell him that sadly it was his own fault for thinking a "rental" style deal like that was something permanent.
