Quest 2 may be ok if it’s hackable. Otherwise you get caught saying a bad word and not only do you lose all your games and access to the headset but you also get a Facebook account ban if you use Facebook.

I ordered the oculus rift s 2 days ago and got it for the same price as the oculus quest 2 thanks to a rlly good sale...im mostly gonna play vrchat, phasmophobia and maybe sum beatsaber. But now everyone is talking ab the quest and im not sure i made the right choice x_x

Quest 2 has nicer screens and the stand alone makes it better value overall.
But the rift s is more comfortable, has noticably better tracking, and doesn't run out of battery in 3 hours

It already has had hand tracking for a year (on quest 1), but that's more of a gimmick for menus and stuff, not good for games
The hand tracking breaks if your hands get too close to each other or in front of each other
And it's not implemented in most games

Oh boy, yeah, lagging in VR is pretty rough. My internet isn’t the best so sometimes my frames are pretty low and it gives me a pretty bad headache and some mild nausea

VR software has features to make low framerates more tolerable, but when you're down to 15fps in VR things are going to look and feel rather unpleasant.
Exactly how that is unpleasant will vary from one person to another. Some just don't like it while some it can make feel quite unwell.

If I was to turn safety up a bit, adjust steamvr, im sure 90 is easy but thats not as fun as going into a room and seeing everyone instantly load

I just kinda explained what I do but with Among us you kinda need the avatars loaded to see what people are doing so I would go to your steamvr settings and turn render resolution from auto down a little bit
like its default is 150% but I normally set it between like 70% to 90%

Turning off supersampling and motion blur helps also but thats when it starts to cut quality for performance. IMO both of those are really demanding on gpu for all of the wrong reasons at least with VRC, maybe looks better on worlds but eh thats just my opinion

Just be careful if you go tweaking any graphic card settings, I found that a lot of them tend to really mess up SteamVR and anything related. Some settings caused a lot of artifacts on just steamvr overlay menus for some odd reason.

If you're running through SteamVR in the developer menu you can enable the frame timing window which will give you a graph showing how long each frame is taking to render and if it's failing to meet the deadline because of the CPU, GPU or both.
If it's your GPU that can't quite keep up but the CPU is doing fine then lowering the render resolution is a good first step.

The main compromises are that you can’t access certain world, see certain avatars, and you may experience some lag here and there, but as someone who went to VRChat for their first VR experience as well, I can definitely say that you won’t care about the compromises.

Also instead of using the safety settings for performance, use the minimum allowed performance rank setting. One thing about that which isn't clearly explained (or immediately obvious) is that in some cases avatars can gracefully shift perf ranks.
For example, lights on avatars will push them into poor or worse, but if the perf limiter is set to medium (as high as it'll go) an avatar that is only poor because of the lights will have just the lights disabled and will then count as whatever perf rank it would be without the lights.

Yeah, there’s a ranking system. You have to spend a bit of time making friends, exploring worlds, and just general playtime in order to rank up and use upload custom avatars.

I have a question, whenever I am in VR mode, VRChat simply cannot handle anything above 3 or 4 avatars in the same world. Becomes a slideshow, no sound.
In desktop, its completely fine.
Ive tried changing internet to 5ghz instead of 2.6, minimal to no help. Disabled ipv6, no help either. Only seems to be able to handle it when literally every avatar in the room is completely turned off and is just a blue dorito or the perf blocked avatar. Anyone have any ideas?

The thing is many things that mods do are planned, but are planned as the game is getting a better stable build. Many mods hack in code which is unstable in the long run, and there's a better way to implement it since much of the game seems to be reworked for better overall compatibility and less overhead.
Things like messaging, physical collision, ect..
But other stuff like bypassing the favorites limit (which was capped for a reason as avatar creators didn't like favorites... And I still disagree with raising it for plus), and avatar search... Which is kind of an invasion of privacy for avatars... It's even if it's in good faith, it's not worth imo

They were limited for multiple reasons.
First of all, we never had favorites, so avatar creators were used to making complex and good world's that people would return to every day to use their avatars. When favorites were announced, many in the creator community were against favorites since it would break the meta that we had for years, of people always returning to these world's that became like hubs.
Adding favorites created a fear of killing a lot of avatar world traffic. So a compromise was made and it was limited to encourage people to keep returning

You can, it can be complicated though if you don’t know what you’re doing like myself I’m currently rigging an avatar although I found it fairly intuitive apart from asking a few questions
