You will be capped to the highest fraction of your refresh rate. If your refresh rate is 80, you will be capped to 1/2 (40) if you can’t make 80. If you can’t make 40, you’ll be capped to 1/3 (26.6666) and if you can’t make that you. Get capped to 1/4 (20) etc. if you change your refresh rate you your average fps might go up or down depending on the various cutoffs @hollow ingot

For example 90 hz will have cutoffs at 45 and 30, so if you can render about 31 a second you’d only drop to 30 instead of 27 if you target a higher refresh

Oculus Quest 2. Both pc and standalone capable witb good resolution and specs for $299. The catch is that it requires a Facebook account to use.

HP Reverb G2 for $600. Very high resolution and made in partner with valve. Doesn't have the best controllers, but overall there's a lot of positive feedback.

Valve index for $1000. Generally considered the best overall. But not necessary if you're just getting into vr. (Lower resolution than quest 2 or reverb. But much better tracking, controllers, and fov)

@tidal lance @vocal shard I'm a little late pitching in, but if you're new to VR and want VRChat, remember that you get a limited experience on the Quest unless you get the link cable. So $299 + $80 for the link + $50 for decent headstrap = $430. That's much closer to the $600 HP Reverb G2. To use the Quest link requires a moderately powerful PC; to use the HP Reverb G2 requires an even more powerful PC. Or you can accept the limited VRChat experience and use the Quest without a link or any PC at all.

I recently moved my cache from my main hard drive to my second one (though both are just hdd) and it loads sooo much faster when it's not on my main hard drive so I imagine going from an SSD to Just hhd will be much slower

Do you know/think vrchat will ever increase polygon counts again? I know they increased green to 70k, but it seems like if you want anything with decent detail you're automatically entering red territory.

Its just a matter of balancing the poly count. Make the poly count higher in areas where you need the detail, and make it less in areas where you don't need that much

In singleplayer games, obviously the main character will have way more detail because its in your face, but in online games all players must look just as good so you have to distribute that detail. I dont know of any game that has very high poly models for players and lets you have more than 16 of them on the screen

@stable folio that isn't true at all. Usually you have 1 hero model that has a higher then usual tri count, maybe around 50k to 60k if it's a single model.

Overwatch uses a budget of 30k or so, including weapons, per character. There it's no professionally made game where they wasted 70k on just the pants alone. If there was it certainly wasn't made by very smart people

I'm new to VRChat, are there any good ways to find avatars other than paying for them or just wandering around hoping you come across one you want? As far as I can tell there's no real "repository", site, or ingame menu to search for avatars.
