@twin fractal They had that all orignally. Your avatars had to be optimized else your would would not get published and people bypassing it got punished for it even
They didnt punish anymore once people learned cloning stuff is way easier (and favoriting it) and when world uploads got automated with the current system even the world checks got removed

oh no they are, its just that too many people go in thinking its similar to other programs, or that they can get away with "fiddling around" in things they have not touched before. And you can, but for a lot of people they either expect too much or play it too cautiously and then breakdown as soon as something goes wrong, because theyre not sure what needs to be fixed

Bc rn the only "legal" ways to give someone an avatar you made for them is to either,
A. have them clone it and have it set to public so that anyone can steal it,
or
B. make them upload it themselves, which requires distribution of potentially private model files, and also unity knowledge on the part of the customer.

Either way, the system is inefficient as it allows for avatars to be stolen if a simple mistake in settings is made- having the avatar set to private would at least prevent most people from getting a hold of it- however there is currently no way to transfer someone a legitimately private avatar without having them upload it themselves, which... there should be tbh.

There's also the risk if a client has malware and then uses some RCE in vrchat to infect players in the lobby. I remember that happened back in the day with gmod. That thing spread like wildfire cause it could bounce between servers and users. It's not likely obviously, but possible nonetheless.

1-3 Aren't worth running suspicious code; 4,6 are possible with the API (use of it is not against the ToS); 5 is possible with a steamvr overlay. I don't see why you'd need infinite worlds but that's just my opinion. The only thing that really needs to in vrc is hiding by avatar.

Even then, when new features get implemented, they don't even work properly. Take the audio overhaul, it just doesn't work. The point was that anyone outside of the cone infront of you is quieter, but it doesn't work, at all. You can test this by simply slowly rotating around near a group of people, their volume won't change.

But yeah, something needs to be done about the clients sooner rather than later as it's beyond prolific at this point. It's not so much a concern when you very rarely see one, but when it becomes a super common occurrence, something's gone wrong. A bunch of paid avatars have been showing up in use by people that shouldn't have access to them lately and that's creating bad blood too.

vrchat is fairly "soft" for motion sickness so you can get used to it in there

Although my only experience using it was with wmr, which needed wmr, steamvr, oculus, and rivive running at the same time....
