Well its more that the internet got build by people who never expected it to be used in this way.
Loads of older tech are extremely unsecure because 'bugs' (or more exploits) where not removed because they where unknown. So with that a lot of protocols for systems like voip are not that secure.

Yeah TCP/IP was built on trust. You make direct connections to other servers. To make those direct connections, you need to share IPs. Using the Internet is like sending thousands of letters per second. They each route individually to an address. No address... no idea where to go.

These are just benchmarks so they're likely of dubious quality for comparison but the current gen chips in iOS devices are actually fairly capable. Using Geekbench's benchmark my i5 6600k is roughly on par with the iPad Pro. I'm assuming that they're suggesting a desktop-like experience on mobile/tablet devices, not VR. I'm not saying they should port the game it, but it could be possible.
*this is just CPU performance, I couldn't find any comparable GPU benchmarks between iOS and desktop

I'd bet there's a not insignificant fraction of VR users today who started as desktop users and were converted by watching other players in VR interact with each other.
It is just a little remarkable how quickly mobile processors have been able to approach desktop level performance, admittedly likely bound by thermal limits given that these devices have no real fan or heatsinks.

Afaik they are capable of reaching desktop level performance, they're just severely limited in duration. The issues with faulty invites and friend requests is due to moving to the newer web socket based system, which is still a WIP. The change is vital if the games servers are to survive the growing load the playerbase is putting on them. Is also key to finally killing the modded client nonsense.

I'm in another discord focused on content creation, where people are complaining about lack of dev support for advanced features for avatars and worlds. Highly technical stuff that only 0.1% of the playerbase would consider even touching.
Personally, whilst it's irritating to see bugs like the faulty FBT or voice fall-off remain in the game for so long, the devs chosen priorities do make sense to me.

i havent kept up until like maybe two months ago, but its slowly starting to dawn on me that the reason why some features seem like prototypes and failsafes rather than actual features, such as the safety system, is because the devs dont have time nor the people to take care of all of the many little bugs and optimization issues as there is so many bigger things to worry about

Didn't like gmod much, something felt unrewarding about it. Modded Minecraft was fun, but every single server is awful now, period. You won't find a server with more than one of the following things at once: good staff, more than 10 active players, 20 ticks per second (no slowdown due to lag)
