I think disabling avatar search is something they want - they want to force you to explore worlds to find avatars so you see more about what vrc is (by exploring worlds). I see where they're coming from but in reality this just pushes people away from the platform pretty fast because they're stuck in an avatar they don't like.
Letting people experience a platform how they like is a super important of you know, having a platform and not strictly curated experience.

Okay here is the legitimate truth most people are angry because the mods they used actually did fix vrchat and made the game better for them and their friends. They would not be as angry if the reason for those mods were addressed before the eac is put in place. If they created a anti crash feature and closed captions and many other things that people used the mods for then they would have no reason for it. They can't, it's physically impossible, that would require something called rexec, or (remote execution.) it's not physically something you can perform on a standard VRChat client. However, if you had a modded client that someone put malicious code into, someone could perform a remote execution that could potentially harm your computer.

Vetted mods do not requiring the devs to copy and paste code, nor does it require ensuring quality testing across hardware. It's literally ensuring a mod that exists isn't malicious in any way. The solution to it harming others (which again, it was checked not to be malicious) is to include a safety feature that blocks vetted modified code

And if someone is using mods to flag their user ID so this safety feature can work.

It's not any of the developer's faults at the end of the day. VRChat got a Series D funding 80 million from Anthos capital which means a chunk of VRChat is owned by them until that investment is paid back in a revenue stream, if you don't understand what that means, a shareholder can make executive decisions on the companies behalf and perhaps those shareholders thought it would be better with EAC (which mind you, is a company standard in anti-cheats, so it's no surprise it was chosen as the one to be used.)
