as the idea of 23,000$ a year.... I would spend no more than $350 for an avatar, or 24hours... an avatar if you're trying to live should be shy of twice as much.... my angle is once you do hit 800 being as that's popular, you're buying premium... so you intend to use it... to be popular with thousands dollar avatars, you can't much go further than 100 hours given the restrictions, and whether or not you want to turn around money quickly. o.o

it's just that I get pissed when people moan they got charged 3500 dollars for a avatar commission and then whine it's "SOOOO expensive" while in my head I'm like "eeeh that's about right".

And then go with a 600 dollar commission and complain it's not what they expected.

If you get to the point that you can't drop serious money on a avatar because it's personal use and you don't have a disposable income or not willing to part with that money, you have to do it your self. And doing it your self is often suddenly free.

And it's not magic, it's not bullshit, you just have to adjust your expectations and be willing to learn a bit.

Honestly everyone has different opinion on commission values. I would say $3000 is hella expensive for a digital model thats for sure considering it won't take too much of time to make one.

depends who you're commissioning, and how complex your design is. also bear in mind that artists won't all have the same rates, if you're commissioning a very skilled artist you are also paying for their decade(s) of experience vs someone new to the craft

it depends a lot. a lot of highly skilled 3D artists are also 2D artists by proxy primarily because 2D art helps to draw concepts and references. but texturing doesn't take much drawing, it's a fairly different skillset
