this setup have 2x 16 GB ram :
Memory
Size of operational RAM
32 GB
Memory frequency
3,600 MHz
Memory type
DDR4
Number of RAM slots
4 piece(s)
Number of installed slots
2 piece(s)

#

So 2x 16 GB is better than the 1x 32 GB 1 slot ram? Can you tell me why? Thx

frigid heath
#

for one thing you still have 2 slots open in case you want 64

#

ow u def need 2 slots filled

#

dual channel memmory

zinc ingot
#

Is 32 GB of RAM not enough these days, for 1440p gaming? Others mentioned above too, to get 64 GB RAM for the 4090 build I linked here earlier. Is 64 GB that much better, and required nowadays?

frigid heath
#

those ppl are talking gamedev

#

c++ takes a lot

zinc ingot

I am not a developer. Roger.

wind egret
#

Most games won't even use 16GB, but your web browser will.

frigid heath
zinc ingot
#

I play few games that use UE4 like Chivalry 2 .... 🙂 I wish I could be a game developer. I am just a Discord member, tech noob, pc tech antitalent 🙂

#

So I am the only one here? 😦 hehe

frigid heath
#

its just... not the same

#

dunno there are a lot of terrible devs here aswell

zinc ingot
#

MegA lol 🙂

frigid heath
#

but yea, if you ask here for a pc build some ppl would recommend a 6000$ pc expecting you to use it for work

#

time spend compiling is time not making money

#

its just diffrent... you dont wunna get bothered with shit while u work on something

median marsh
#

75hz is fine for screen, you wont have 240Hz/fps in any game either 😄

median marsh
#

ok

#

but anything above is a waste of money imho

#

and should rather be invested in a better 144Hz one

frigid heath
#

i can most def tell 75 from 144

#

and a lot of games run 144 if you dont max everything... and i rather have 144 than maxed everything

mighty cosmos
#

around 144Hz is the sweetspot while 175 is nice to have and anything beyond is not really worth it

frigid heath
#

175 also needs the card to push it or really tune down stuff

#

on 1440p

fallen oasis
#

I have 144 and never hit 144 with my 3090. 😦

frigid heath
#

dont really need 4k on my size monitor either its pretty close

fallen oasis
#

(at 1080p)

frigid heath
#

you messed shit up in ur build?

mighty cosmos
fallen oasis
#

Eh. It is what it is.

frigid heath
#

no

#

u bad

#

fuck up build

fallen oasis
#

I was playing hogwarts legacy and don't get over 80 fps even with everything on low at 1080p.

frigid heath
#

also u play shit games

fallen oasis
#

But I also get 70 fps with everything on full.

#

I've got a total of about 2 hours played in it. My friend bought me it. It's just the most graphically advacned game I've played recently.

frigid heath
#

80fps on 3090 1080p is not right man

#

thats raytrace stuff

mighty cosmos
#

Unless that game is really really heavy to run

fallen oasis
#

Oh and DLSS was off.

#

Having it on made no difference.

frigid heath
#

this makes no sense

mighty cosmos
#

Found this video on YT, 1080p, ultra, 3090

fallen oasis
#

I do wonder if having a 6900 xt in there too makes any difference.

#

(it's not suing the 6900)

#

Or is it a 6800 xt? Soemthign like that .

#

Yeah, 6800.

mighty cosmos
#

Yeah I'm not sure but 80 fps doesn't sound right
That's more like what I would expect from the 6800

fallen oasis
#

You can choose the adapter you use in the game.

frigid heath
#

dunno ultra might be overkill... like i dunno what they do with those settings

fallen oasis
#

And I can see my 3090 is working and my 6800 isn't.

zinc ingot
frigid heath
#

us l33t gamedevs use stat unit in unreal engine

mighty cosmos

I think

zinc ingot

pretty sure it is

And it only work with Nviadia cards?

In movies, the CGI technology, is made by a special engine or software?

I guess Unreal Engine is not part of it, or yes?

rtx 4080 16GB vs rtx 3090 24GB, which is better for UE5, and for an indie developer?

frank glade
#

3090 for the vram?

mellow galleon
#

3080ti is plenty. even 1080 enought for coding, you do not need dozens gb of vram unless rendering

#

my office pc had gtx 680 and was still ok [had to up to 3070 for rtx]

#

pick whatever fits the budget, unless you have specific goal or use in mind that needs top gpu

frank glade

you do need a ton of vram else you won't be able to open bigger levels

How can i install my ssd

#

I got no idea how I've never done it

forest hound
#

What do I do with the missing screw?

#

I don't get what to do there's no acrew there so I have to install one although it won't go down?

#

Yeah but I can't place it there if the ssd is in the way

#

I can't push it any further down the slot

#

Huh

#

So my ssd is not correctly plugged in?

#

Yeah but I still can't figure what side I install the ssd on

#

The FireCuda lgo on top is the only way I see how it fits in any way

#

Ok I got it in now we gotta find a screw

median marsh
#

yea you got the right side up, only thing missing is the screw

#

and push it in the slot correct...

forest hound
#

I don't have a screw for it, can I just tape it and hope it doesn't explode?

#

I got rubber tape

median marsh
#

do you use the wifi?

#

i would rather remove the wifi card, put some rubber tape around the antenna connectors (or the whole thing) and use the screw for the SSD

fallen oasis
#

Or just buy some screws.

forest hound
#

I have 2 screws in a bag I got with my oc

#

They are black tho

fallen oasis
#

And?

forest hound
#

I'm not sure do they fit if the other ones are silver

fallen oasis
#

If they fit in the hole, use them.

forest hound
#

Racially motivated ofc

forest hound
#

I got tape that can handle 90c tho

#

What do you think? I can remove my primary ssd ( 512gb vs 2tb )

#

I have to order them and wait

#

Yes

#

I got a usb

#

Yeah and once I get the screws I can get my UE5 project back

#

But I have to find a thing I can screw it off with

fallen oasis
#

Just hold it in place as you copy the files over.

#

Totally safe.

frank glade
#

apparently windows adds a EFI system partition to one of your drives when you install windows, and you can't choose which one it is. now I can't remove my old ssd because that's the one with the partition, and without it there's no boot 😵‍💫

fallen oasis
#

Just reinstall windows.

frank glade
#

That's next 😔

forest hound
#

I had to remove my cpu fan but I still can't get my main ssd off of it's slot

#

I found a working screw in my old laptop so that's good news

#

I got my ssd off but it won't come off literally

#

It's stuck

fallen oasis
#

You got it off but it won't come off?

#

Is this like some sort of inception offness?

forest hound
#

I got the ssd off but it's still stuck

frank glade
#

You're aware it needs to be at an angle right? Both going in and out

forest hound

There's some fur below it

#

Nahh

#

My cpu goes to 80 in gta

#

I can't, literallt stuck

#

Mission failed succesfully

#

Wtf is that

#

So should I be concerned? Should I remove it?

#

And transfer the old ssd onto the new slot with no thermal pad?

#

Yes but I found a screw that I can use to get my 2nd slot used

#

That way I can have 2.5tb

#

That was my original plan but things went south

forest hound
#

I just lost a screw inside my PC can I still use it?

#

I don't need the screw

fallen oasis
#

No. Find the screw.

#

If that shorts something your entire pc may die.

#

I find picking up the case and shaking it upside down is effective.

forest hound
#

I hear nothing when shaking it

#

Upside down or sideways, nothing

fallen oasis
#

Are sure you sure it's actually inside the case?

forest hound
#

Nope, might've hit the case and fell to the floor

#

You think I should risk it?

#

It fell on the floor but I heard metal sound

fallen oasis
#

Did you find it?

forest hound
#

So could it just be that it fell on the floor?

forest hound
#

Does warranty cover that?

fallen oasis
#

I'd suggest taking everything but the motherboard, cpu and psu out (basically the easy to get out stuff) and then try turning it on. If it doens't catch on fire, you're probably okay.

#

You mgiht even find the screw.

forest hound
#

My PC just sparked a bit when I plugged it in

fallen oasis
#

It's not uncommon to get a bit of that when you connect the lead to the PSU

(That's sarcasm btw)

Anyone have recommendations for a budget pc for UE5?

edgy coral
#

My UE is using a lot of my CPU but none of my GPU. why? Can I set up something so it uses my GPU too?

edgy coral
#

thats what Im doing

#

and all it does is make it crash and say texture streaming pool too much

#

and still uses 0% of my GPU

#

but it should use some of it? UE works better on my laptop that has no GPU

#

it should do that, yes.

#

but 0% dude. it would basically run the same if I rip out my GPU

#

ohh it's using all of ram not my cpu

#

my laptop has 12gb and it runs better than this

#

my PC has 24

#

why does it run at 5fps and say texture streaming pool over by this much

forest hound
#

Did I put the right amount of thermal paste?

fresh fog
#

I'd personally put a tiny bit more

#

But I mean tiny

fallen oasis
#

I'm pretty sure I always put on way too much.

#

And I've never had a problem.

forest hound
#

The wipes smelt like shit tho

#

I used arctic mx6 and it's so good

#

Do I need thermal paste for my side fan? My GPU reached 92c in game with auto fan

fallen oasis
#

"side fan"?

forest hound
#

Yeah there's a fan on the side of my pc above the gpu

#

It points to nothing it's just on the side

fallen oasis
#

So a case fan?

#

What would you even put thermal paste on in that case?

#

Onto the case itself?

forest hound
#

Idk man

#

I'm just tired

#

I think my pc was so hot because I was running Nitrosense to see if my CPU temps after using thermal paste but it also enabled the auto fan speed which is really shit for the app

#

I'm using 100% of my GPU in game while I had it on so maybe that's why I got 90c

fallen oasis
#

90 isn't a bad thing.

forest hound
fallen oasis
#

Use open hardware monitor if you want sensor readings.

forest hound
#

I'm using MSI Afterburner & Rivatuner

mighty cosmos
#

hotspot is usually 10-15C higher

forest hound
#

What's hotspot

#

GPU temp is what it says

mighty cosmos
#

Ok yeah that's a bit high

forest hound
#

It was afor a while because I used the shitty Nitrosense fan config

#

I switched to my MSI Afterburner auto fan and I got under 80

#

I hope it was because of the Nitrosense because I'm getting crashes but I didn't even touch my GPU fan so I think I'm fine

forest hound
#

My GPU fan needs to be on 78% when playing games to have under 80c is something wrong?

fallen oasis
#

So the fan that's designed specifically to cool your gpu is running at under its maximum capacity and is cooling your gpu sufficiently... and you think that's a problem?

#

Would it running at 20% be better and you having to pay an extra 100 bucks for a bigger fan be better?

forest hound
#

It used to be cooler with 20% less

fallen oasis
#

So what did you do?

forest hound
#

Continue playing

#

Lol

fallen oasis
#

I mean between it taking 78% and 58%?

median marsh
#

doesn't nvidia have hardware firmware based fancontrol?

#

or at least in their official driver

#

yea, just saying that extra software is usually useless

#

what should i say...

mighty cosmos
#

Mine is sitting at around 48C now, 0 rpm

This 4090 is the first card I didn't have to manually adjust the fan curve, on every single card I had before the default curve was not great

median marsh
#

idk when my card switches to 0%, probably only with less load (and im playing gta rn :D)

mighty cosmos
#

it's usually at around 50-55C
And it will spin back up at 60

#

Yeah I haven't seen mine go above 68-70C at full load, 450W
And I'm running without any limits, with a slight factory OC

median marsh

there's no oversized cooler 😄

#

What's the core count needed for PACKAGED games for a machine. I have an i9 13900k I use for my main dev machine and the simulator I built we supply hardware for it, but I need to update my specs - and I don't know how to quantify potential bottlenecking of the CPU (the gpu is at least a 3090 TI) in regards to getting an i7 or an i5 of the 13th gen. If the speeds are similiar (other than enthusiant turboclock stuff) how much will it matter - how multithreaded is a modern unreal packaged build (like 5.2) ?

round swallow
#

So I've been directed here to get advice for building a new rig or upgrading my current one to meet the minimum requirements for game dev. I would appreciate any insight you guys might have to offer so please do feel free to chime in. My current PC Specs are as follows:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

Installed RAM: 16 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

This rig is about 5 - 6 years old but I'd like to continue using it if possible so do let me know if there's anything I can replace to improve my PCs ability to use UE5.

fallen oasis
#

You can probalby just slap another couple of sticks of ram in there (16gb a piece) to get up to 48gb.

#

But if you upgrade in the future, you won't be able to use that ram in the latest systems.

fallen oasis
#

New standards.

#

Or, well, it may be compatible, but just not upto scratch.

#

DDR3200 vs DDR6000 for example

round swallow
#

Huh I see, so if I wanted to "future proof" myself would you recommend just building an entirely new rig?

fresh fog
#

Future proofing doesn't really exist. You can't accurately guess what future applications will require.

round swallow
#

Sorry I guess that's kind of a dumb question to ask, it's kinda impossible to "future proof" anything with the constant changes and rapid advancement in tech plus with AI now in the mix, who knows what revolutionary changes lie around the corner.

fresh fog
#

Bingo :P

round swallow
#

Hrmm well I guess for now I'll just purchase additional RAM and see if that helps

fresh fog
#

Yeah try the cheapest method first

round swallow
#

Any particular RAM brands you guys recommend or will anyone do?

fresh fog
#

Match your current stuff as close as humanly possible

#

You never really want to mix and match ram

fallen oasis
#

You should never really mix and match ram. If you buy more, even if it's exactly the same type, brand and model, it can have issues if it's bought separately.

#

Even if bought together, there's a chance.

#

That's why you can buy matched pairs and quads.

fresh fog
#

Yeah the silicon lottery varies wildly with ram

fallen oasis
#

Just get as close as possible to what you currently have.

fresh fog
#

Your best case scenario is nothing happens and your new ram downclocks to match the older slower stuff.

The worst case is constant crashes and boot failure

fallen oasis
#

If it doesn't work, take out the old stuff.

fresh fog
#

^

round swallow
#

Oh I see, I believe I'm currently using 2 8GB Corsair RAM sticks though I've forgotten the model. Would it be possible to buy like 16GB sticks of the same brand and have them work with my current ones?

fresh fog
#

No guarantees

#

You're also limiting yourself on memory bandwidth there.

Personally I'd just replace the 8gb with the 2 16gb. You shouldn't need more than 32gb, and if you did, you'd also be getting a top of the range cpu and gpu

round swallow
#

Aight I'll try that then, thank you for the advice

zinc ingot
#

I have a question (yes me the tech noob sorry) so I just readed these leaks from new RTX 5000 series of GPUs coming in 2025 :

Kopite added that a potential flagship GPU from the next generation should utilize a 512-bit memory bus. This would be a major shift in NVIDIA gaming lineup, considering such configuration has not been used for a long time, like GTX 280 or some dual-GPU models. If NVIDIA were to use GDDR7 memory with the max speed of 32 Gbps on such a potential next-gen GPU, this would result in 2TB/s bandwidth, so double what RTX 4090 offers.

So my question is, based on these leaks, it is possible to tell, if the new GPUs coming in 2025 from Nvidia, will need more TDP or less TDP? Or it is not possible to tell? What other factors or technology must be known to be able to tell if the power requireement will be lower or bigger? Thx! Sorry for noob question! Also english isnt my mother language, sry in case if I made grammar mistakes.

#

I understand, there could be many variants with different specs too of these upcoming GPUs.

wind egret
#

The question is moot because Nvidia targets certain brackets for power consumption. E.g. They'll have a 150-190 W GPU, a 200-240W GPU, and a 250-300W GPU, etc. It's not feasible to predict where in those brackets a particular GPU will fall. If their GPUs for a year are unexpectedly power-hungry or unexpectedly efficient, they'll simply move their GPUs up or down a bracket to compensate.

Will Nvidia's 2025 GPUs need more TDP or less TDP? Yes.

#

well they are necessary for a air flow through the case

#

so i usually go with 2 intakes in the front and 1 exhaust (close to cpu/gpu)

plush turret
#

i also have the benefit of my entire houses AC unit is right next to my office so theres simple output and return vents i can duct to to help flow

median marsh
#

case fans aren't made for pushing air through pipes/tubes they don't produce enough air pressure

#

as long as your room temperature is controlled, its good enough to pipe fresh air through the pc

#

so that the hot air wont stay inside it

plush turret
#

oh i know, i have the hardware to create negative presure in the ducting

#

not a lot, but enough to pull light air and maybe some dust through it

#

the AC unit has to pull air from a 2,000 square foot house. its got really good power and i have enough duct fans from a demolition job to build a really cool unit, just need to get the heat out of the computer

#

how do i hook multiple fans up? isnt there like a physical limit to fan ports on a motherboard?

frank glade
#

there is, like one chassis fan. but a lot of fans come with a split cable to link them

#

or get a fan hub

plush turret
#

im assuming i wont actually need to plug my CPU into it? given the MB has 3 fan ports already

#

1cpu and 2 for the case

agile lodge
#

if you want evangelion style there is ROG x Evangelion EVA-02 this time

plush turret
#

tbh im the only one who will see the pc and RGB is low on my list

#

only the RAM has RGB actually

frank glade
#

Simpler to use the motherboard headers and bios to set the fan curves for them

frank glade
plush turret
#

i just need to setup my fans to blow air through, my external airflow is top notch

#

i mean the MB has a CPU fan port on top of a chasis fan port

#

looks like it already has 4 fan slots

frank glade
#

Oh then problem solved lol

#

I only have one so I use a fan hub

#

Some have an aio pump header though

#

Not sure if rgb is also 4 pin

plush turret
#

i dont use rgb fans in the first place

#

i get my fill of RGB with the lighting in my office

tbh 10 is kinda the new XP. its lighter and more capable than the last 3 builds

it took me a while to get over the pain of losing win7, but 10 just feels way more intuitive now

win 7 wasnt the best but it was vastly better than vista

So, I've been working with a laptop with limited storage (500GB) and was looking at getting an External SSD. Would there be any issues as far as gaming/game dev with UE5 is concerned? Not sure if theres much of a performance difference between an internal and external SSD

#

so your best bet is an internal 2nd NVMe

#

heres also a good video showing how to install it

sudden stratus
#

Does slim matter? Because mine isnt a slim

#

I imagine its still the same process

median marsh
#

yea, i would suggest to order a nvme 2280 and then see if it fits

#

if it doesn't you can still get an external "case" for it

#

but honestly, i would invest in a 2TB one, and if it doesn't fit i would rather replace the original 500GB than messing with an external case

#

or 4TB if you can afford it

sudden stratus
#

I don't want to mess with transferring data and reinstalling windows though

#

No, I was just going to use it as additional storage

#

I keep having to uninstall and reinstall things because I don't have enough storage

#

Installing that NVMe doesnt seem to bad tbh. A lot easier than I was expecting

#

Not sure about RAM though

fresh fog
#

Hell ram is easier

#

Flick two clips and click it in

#

Just make sure you push down until both clips are fully seated

sudden stratus
#

Yeah, but in the video I was watching the guy couldn't figure out to access the RAM (keep in mind this is a laptop not desktop)

median marsh
#

i'm not a fan of gskill memory

#

and the sata ssd is a waste of money if you have a board with nvme slots...

#

you get 4TB nvme for pretty much the same price

#

but it's at least 5 times faster

sudden stratus
#

Might just fall back to 2TB anyways though. Can always add another 2TB later

#

I just don't understand the difference between these two. Their virtually identical.

median marsh
#

they use different controllers/flash chips probably and one might be faster than the other, but that's almost negligible

fresh fog
#

For example my ram was below my HDD in my old laptop

#

And quite commonly you can void your warranty by changing laptop ram

#

Also make sure if you go the laptop route you buy the right memory

#

Laptop ram is typically in the sodimm format

#

Which is vastly different to the desktop ram you're probably used to seeing

Is it normal for overheating to cause graphical glitches? Was just on my work machine, noticed visual artifacts that became increasingly present. I'm gonna bet it's faulty hardware, because the NIC seemed to have been damaged in transit too.

I'll see what I can find when I have a clean of it. Reluctant to do too much since it's a work machine. Don't want them saying it was my fault :P

median marsh

some CPU cooler notes also said that they should be dismounted for transport because their weight adds so much force on the mainboard PCB that it could damage it

oh yeah. i probably know more about that games working than anyone but the dev team. i tore it apart for over a decade

hardy marten
#

did it have mod support and all that?

plush turret
#

not back then, all we could do was edit the maps and text based files

hardy marten
#

I only recently got to tear apart games lol

#

every Fallout game

#

console commands are my best friends

Hey guys. Does anyone here uses laptop for UE5 and can recommend something thats not too overpriced? Im looking for something with i5, 32gb ram and RTX 4050 - would that be enough to run UE with decent performance in 1080p?

plush turret
#

well actually "running" UE5 is one thing, rendering and building for it is another

#

and a 4050 mobile wont be terrible for rendering, just slow and power hungry

#

i rendered my first game on an MX250

#

took 4 days

sharp crescent
#

I just need it for some basic prototyping - lets say, running something like the new RTS template

#

hmm it says 6gb

plush turret
#

my MX250 had 2

sharp crescent
#

i take it differs per model/manufacure

plush turret
#

and pretty low quality 2gb

#

still worked for my small arena game

#

doesnt the render power required go up with the complexity of the game?

sharp crescent
#

what about CPU? Is it ok to go with i5 vs i7?

frigid heath
#

i hate laptops, cuz the last time i wanted to repaste my cpu and gpu... those things often use like 1$ cooling paste or some shit... i really couldnt reach the chips

#

like stuff seemed to be glued together and shit

plush turret
#

i mean laptops arent really built to be upgradable?

worldly lagoon
#

I was able to find a tear down video before I purchased mine, to confirm it was possible to add another m2 SSD and service the chips. The thing does overheat like crazy. When I did replace the paste and pads with top quality replacements I found there was next to no thermal improvement.

#

Rebuilding a PC right now. I can't work seriously on maps with this laptop, texture streaming struggles too much.

sharp crescent
#

I tested UE5 on my girlfriend laptop and it was running fine with lumen on the basic vehicle scene (58fps at 1080p - without lumen 120fps)- the only issue it had is heating and disc space - it was also taking 11gb ram out of 16 so I'll probably go for 32gb version.

worldly lagoon
#

I've been doing a lot of work on this, but will help to go back to the big power sucking box.

sharp crescent
#

yeah desktop wins, but i often spend weekends in a hut away from home and taking the big box with me is a pain in the b.....

plush turret
#

yeah my lifestyle also sucked for rigs until recently

#

im building a 12th gen i7, 64gb ram, 4090 rig

#

with WIFI

#

im tempted to wait for the 4090ti to come out

#

to buy the GPU at least

mighty cosmos
plush turret
#

hawk wanted something really beefy for futureproofing

mighty cosmos
#

4090 is beyond overkill for gaming already

plush turret
#

game and dev

mighty cosmos
#

Also for the 4090 you want the latest high end cpu you can get

Yeah, I mean lots of new dev team that being misleaded with the promotion that lumen+nanite just save the world. That's not true.

plush turret
wind egret
#

Top of the line 4090 with an almost-budget CPU?

plush turret
#

my MB ir rated for 12th gen only

#

there a better 12th gen CPU you suggest?

crisp kernel
#

You could try threadripper maybe😅

plush turret
#

speed isn't my only focus, id like to get a decent setup which should be good at building games for a while and playing them a while longer

crisp kernel
#

Epic is using them as the workstation CPUs

mighty cosmos
plush turret
#

is it enough better?

#

for the price

wind egret
#

Not sure how good an extra 4 E-cores and a ~5% clock boost is, on the i9.
It's just so strange to see that and a 4090 together in a build aimed at futureproofing.

crisp kernel
plush turret
#

i already have the MB

#

gotta wait till september to buy more

#

tbh the 4090 can be pulled out and put into something newer unless someone wants to make an entirely new style of PCIe

#

im at a mix of "high power" and "budget" i know. but i get about $370 a month extra after bills from my disability checks

wild hill
plush turret
#

then the case study as joseph says might be your best bet

#

im going for "bang for buck" that doesnt require 3+ months to get the core of the computer

#

this is what im getting

frank glade
plush turret
#

690 chipset

frank glade
#

doesn't matter

#

but if you don't have a slot for usb bios update

#

then you need a 12th gen cpu to slot in to update

mighty cosmos
#

Just saw your comment

plush turret
#

i am

#

im just buying it $370 at a time

median marsh
#

why

#

save up all the money, then buy it, hardware prices drop daily

plush turret
#

part of my problem is im an impulse micro spender, i drain my bank accounts like crazy when i have money, buying random shit i dont need, saving is insanely hard

#

so when i buy something big, i usually have to find someone i can trust to hold the cash while i save up, or like this, buy it in small bits and build it

median marsh
#

this is an good opportunity to practice saving

plush turret
#

ive tried for 9 years, doesnt work well for me, like i said i micro spend it, lunch with friends, a trinket, or something, usually just $20 or less, and over a few weeks can drain $300 out of my account

#

and i did buy what was on sale

#

the MB, and case were/are on sale

#

the MB is huge, bigger thgan the other ones i have in my scrappers

#

and the case is really nice, almost 100% metal

#

i mean my scrappers are metal inside but its all shit plastic outsides

#

and im buying monitors

wild hill
# plush turret this is what im getting

Cool, now I'm using my MBP M1 to learn UE5, it is a 3500$ build... but only offer me 35 FPS on my 4K monitor sweeney_activate and sample project like City doesn't support Mac platform. That is why I want to purchase a PC.

plush turret
#

i see the problem apple product

wild hill
plush turret
#

yeah SSD is the last thing im getting, my old laptop SSD is compatible so once i get the PSU, CPU, and ram, ill have a working computer

wild hill
#

And maybe you could go i7 13700K, no big price difference with 12700K

#

Because you already buy the top 4090 video card.

plush turret
#

havent bought yet, but yeah 4090 is planned

wild hill
#

Yeah, the idea is throw money on GPU and CPU mainly I guess.

plush turret
#

ye

#

granted ill be gaming more than developing, but its nice to have a gpu that will be future proof for the next like 6-8 years as a good gaming computer

#

id use my "ultra" case if i didnt need it for my media desktop

#

32TB 2/3 filled with movies, tv, and songs

#

4 chained 8tb HDD's

#

is the ARC 750 any good as a $200 GPU?

median marsh
#

and that it's kinda nonsense to avoid them, now that the bug was fixed...

plush turret
#

any good 4tb SSD's? i like my big games

#

and my top 4 take up like 600gb just sitting there

#

does my RAM being RGB affect actual usage?

#

cause idk if the ram i picked is the best i can get

#

MB is DDR5 rated

#

what i currently have (in my list)

#

whats the main aspect im looking for in my ram

#

i know i need both sticks to be same speed, and DDR5

#

whats else?

median marsh
#

i dont have good experience with g.skill

plush turret
#

i was curious cause there less and more expensive options

#

i know i want 2x32

#

what went wrong with gskill?

median marsh
#

2/6 sticks defect within a few years of usage

#

which might explain why they can offer them so cheap, probably using dram chips which other manufactors wouldn't consider to use

#

as there are different quality levels....

plush turret
#

teamgroup good?

#

or corsair?

median marsh
#

corsair might be okayish, idk their quality standards, only had 2 sticks of them

#

Samsung/SKHynx/Micron(Crucial) are the major brands

#

anyone else buys their dram from one of those and just puts their label on it
