That 128 GB storage probably won't leave you much room for your project
storage isn't a concern I can just buy that
I don't know how much recent version of Unity take up, but I remember Unity 5 took up around 3 GB
Not to mention if you had to branch out to mobile dev, Android SDK can take up much larger space
Yeah, probably not getting out much from that CPU
I recall Unity 5 at least run on Intel Atom, though even 2D game struggle with its Intel GMA iGPU back then
Surely more recent Unity versions demand more these days
Though I'm sure RPG Maker will still run fine on netbook level potato so that's an option
Godot != RPG Maker
Eh, I assumed you're making top down RPG esque game, just like Undertale (though that game uses Game Maker Studio)
Then it should be fine, but I don't know the metrics.
tbh Godot's editor turned me off faster than a girl approached by me.
how
I mean, look at this, this thing turned me off fast.
@vivid skiff I found this, but it's some random company I've never heard of before that's based in china: https://a.co/d/4aH2u68
Can anyone help?
AMD Reference 7900XTX Coolers are failing at a scary rate! Der8auer did a complete video about his testing here. Disclaimer, our 7900XTX along with many other reviewers does NOT exhibit this behavior, however there are MANY confirmed cases in the wild. Check out his video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26Lxydc-3K8

I'm using mypersonalwifi. Every 30 seconds or so it disconnects and reconnects
I'm trying to get godot running on a $70 tablet, but the apk won't sideload
Ask in the Godot server
they can't really provide any help, but if I get it working, we can compare usefulness on tablet vs laptop if you're interested
Is it an exact port? If so then that'd definitely be useful
it is, download's on their website
my phone's aspect ratio makes it almost unusable though, can't exactly make the windows resize without a mouse
only poor people can do that /j
changed mypersonalwifi from NAT to bridge. Now it seems stable. It was reconnecting every 10s
ok something for screens as I had 3D vision screen, so this laptops having 3D Oled have the nerd hype
any good deals on a server machine? I remember seeing a basic HP PC labeled as a server for $300, could even take a gpu, but this was forever ago maybe it wasn't hp
something that I can add SSDs for storage, CPU good enough to run p4 and omniverse deep search, so I would be looking for it to have a gpu slot to add later
that's excactly what I was thinking since I have a spare case and even some ddr3 but I remember seeing a everything you need pc for around 300
omniverse basically takes the same requirements as p4, deepsearch is a omniverse feature requires a gpu but doesn't add much else overhead, so just a cpu that can handle running 2 p4 basically
i also have some ddr3 and a old asus m4l laying around I was going to add some stuff into a server, the price would be around the same
yeah I think your right getting parts and diy would be best
sorry ddr3 ram I meant
A vapor chamber that cares about its orientation is either flawed or working as intended in an industrial setting.
In the latter case, there's probably a risk of explosion.
[Dual CPU] AMD EPYC 7451 or [Quad CPU] Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 @ 2.20GHz for high octane ue5 devolopment?
The 4070 ti is 950โฌ in Europe... Should I get something with more vram o is it a good choice? 3090 ti is 1400โฌ here... same for the 4080, 1400โฌ
Focusing on unreal general use, of course
you can pick what you want
I mean the 4070 looks more attractive than the other options, but I'm not sure if it's more gaming focused than productivity
I would love to buy an amd but I'm scared of the drivers and compatibility, as far as I know many AI apps don't work with amd, also photogrammetry is also almost impossible
it can be good for productivity too
i saw asus unveil some proart and vivobooks with 4070 so
Is having a cheap nvidia second graphics card a viable option? or it doesnt make sense
Like for photogrammetry and so on
Nah, seems like a bad option, nevermind
you can get that 4070Ti sure
I think I'll keep waiting for a month in hopes that some miracle of gpu pricing happens... But thanks for the help!
The optional driver have been stable for me so far, had no issues
Hard to find any 128 gb ddr5 memory kits - newegg has a Atech which is a brand I'm not familiair with
amazing like if I swap out it out with a 4x32 kit that was ddr4 while you were sleeping, you wouldn't notice the difference?
I've never read through a QVL before - but I'm looking for 2/4 designation right?
Supports 13th Gen & 12th Gen Intel Coreโข Processors; 24+1+2 Phase Power Design, SPS for VCore+GT; 4 x DDR5 DIMMs, supports up to 7200+(OC); 2 PCIe 5.0 x16, 1 PCIe 4.0 x16, 1 M.2 Key-E for WiFi; Graphics Output Options: 2 USB4 Type-C, 1 HDMI; 5.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC4082 Audio Codec), ESS SABRE9218 DAC, WIMA Audio Caps...
I need reliability - you have mentioned it multiple times - it's not "amazing" - are you getting crashes/glitches you think are caused to the combining memory kits?
I don't know what JEDEC is
probably 4000, maybe 4200
pretty sure CPUZ will tell you the JEDEC as well without having to go into the bios,
but you seem past that point
yep, that would be 4400
Instead of one 64-bit "channel" per DIMM as seen in previous standards (DDR4 and lower), DDR5 now contains two 32-bit "channels". These "channels" are not to be confused with the multi-channel architecture of the memory controller. For software that hasn't been updated, this can make it appear to be in a quad-channel configuration.
So, what kit should I get? Pretend I'm irresponsible with the number of large projects and programs I leave open on the machine
and is that the JEDEC speed?
Anything without the XMP extension in this table is considered to follow the JEDEC standard
my god what does this mean
I'm going to youtube jedec vs. xmp because I clearly don't understand themn

so if I find the timings on the QVL?
What does this socket support mean ? 2/4
and what is DPC 2R mean? - 2 dimms per channel,
I'm getting an Asrock z790 taichi and their forums are no help - I just want to know what kit to buy
JEDEC stands for Joint Electron Device Engineering Council and are responsible for the creation of the various memory standards.
XMP was created by Intel and initially released by the DDR3 standard. XMP stands for Extreme Memory Profile, and it allowed Intel to add extensions to the JEDEC standards. When manufacturers advertise their memory sticks to be XMP compatible, this means they've tested them according to Intel's specifications and have been certified by Intel.
Correct, DPC means DIMMs Per Channel. So 2DPC = 2 DIMMS Per Channel
where do I go to find what are the kits I can use to avoid compatibility issues - I'm trying to discern this QVL - but dont' know how to read it
I thought you had already ordered everything?
I see.
From what I understand, Laura has showed you everything you need to know?
turns out I was wrong
The bottom listing here is similar to what Laura had shown to you before
I've been ordering a crap load of stuff and when I review the orders, I never actually ordered it
It's Intel's specification for what their CPU's memory controller can handle
1DPC 1R means 1 DIMM Per Channel using single ranked DIMMS
The speeds without OC are the JEDEC standard speeds the memory controller can support
what? on the QVL? what do you mean by which vendor?
The reply has the attached image I was referring to. In case I did the wrong one, I believe it's the image of your motherboard's supported memory specs
do you suspect compatibility problems if I order two of the exact same 2x32gb kit, I mean combability problems related to mixing "different" kit\s
misery loves company eh? lol
There'll be compatibility problems by mixing two different kits because they haven't been tested together. As to how badly they are compatible is to be seen
is my logic flawed? if you have 4 sticks of ram that were made at the factory, one after the other, wouldn't they be less likely to have compatibility problems?
How do you know they were made at the same factory at the same time in the same batch?
I still don't know what they mean by DIMM Socket Support 2/4, as opposed to 2 - does that mean it can support two or 4, and that means I need to disregard all the memory on the QVC that just says 2
Socket/slots. The physical connections on the motherboard
I mean, logically when you package something it goes to a warehouse, - and unless it was a ram that was on one end of a bulk order
Just 2 means there's only 2 slots in the motherboard
2/4 means there's 4 slots but only 2 are being used
so wait, unless I see 4 here, there's not going to be 4 dimm support on a 4 slot board?
Whoโs got the need for speed?!

that art on gpu is that thing coming back
?
motherboard manual has that listed but I can't find a listed for 4 dimms being used in the QVL
If there's 4 slots, then it can support 4 DIMMs. If it's DDR5, then it'd unlikely can reach high speeds to the relatively weak IMC of CPU for both Intel and AMD considering it's Intel's second generation and AMD's first generation to support the new memory standard
I just want it to post using XMP, even if it is a low speed, like 4800
Would either of you be willing to just think for me for a bit lol
Is there a reason you want DDR5? Unless you're being forced to use it that is
there is a terrorist here claiming he will blow up my house if I don't order ddr5
I don't know why I can't find a database of "this ram configuration worked in this machine on this motherboard/cpu using this xmp profile"
That's a thing that exists somewhere right?
this is just marketing right? Intel Optimized?
You can check Intel for their XMP charts for DDR5
in the same exact system/hardware?
on this INtel XMP chart, I don't see corsair listed that much under the 13900k
Gskill though
You also don't find any 4x kits on there
then maybe I should just get the fastest 32x2 setup I can get?
people must not need 128 gb of memory or there would be more information about this
I know i'm not the average consumer but I didn't think it was that much of a niche
Exactly what are your requirements?
how does this kit look? I'll have to do the same thing as you I guess
Ripjaws S5 is a high-performance DDR5 memory tailor-made for the latest Intel CoreTM processor platform. Using only best-in-class, hand-screened memory ICs that passed G.SKILL rigorous performance tests, each Ripjaws S5 memory kit strikes the perfect balance between performance, compatibility, an...
what would you get if you bought now
and "xmp ready" is just marketing right?
Cas is 40 though -
well they all say Intel XMP memory but I mean is the "XMP ready" thing just marketing
is the 4800 cap for 4 dimms from the cpu or the motherboard? i can't remember
yeah, I'm fine with 5000 though if it is stable
Good luck
Most overclockers are just gamers
So they mostly test for whatever most demanding game they have
Also underclocking increase longevity, so that's a bonus
Also speaking of high end RAM, are there any more recommendation for RAM sticks without any RGB fluff, aside from Corsair Vengeance?
Suggest me anything that don't have any RGB lighting. I don't like the gimmick.
RGB is the devil.
Duct tape.
Heating issues be damned.
They have a very small chance!
I wasn't planning on going a huge overclock - literally is enabling XMP doing that though? or it just allows you to begin the overclock and start increasing the memory clock?
What is cooling your CPU?
I'll be putting mine on a custom loop, one of the corsair rainbow vomit ones - (though I heard good things about the kit for a first time watercool build)
I wanted one because getting an AIO 4090 wasn't a guarantee
although I did pick up a 3090 ti with the AIO
it is 41 C now under no load - the AIO works pretty good I guess
I paid 1100 for it - for a 24 gb card with an AIO
I might keep the 3090ti in the main development rig and put the 4090 (ifif I ever get my hands on one) in the demo rig

I think they got 4200
Aren't you going Intel though?
check the timestamp at the end he talks about intel being a bit easier
is that 4800 cpu going to be hardcapped forever, - i shouldn't expect a bios update?
A BIOS update is not going to magically make it significantly better
do CPUs actually get those? I just thought it was for motherboards
What?
a bios update
I''m probably just going to grab two of these, and hope I get 4800 of it it and settle for 4000
I saw the Gskill name a bunch on Intel's XMP page you linked, much more than corsairs
I mentioned it, don't think I actually linked it
Aren't those dual rank modules? According to the Intel chart, 4400 is for 2DPC 2R
I don't understand ddr5. Before what mattered was the marginal CAS latency difference between CL16 vs CL18. Now its CL36, but it has more bandwidth now so that makes up for it and it has better performance or something? idk
latency being the lower number was better, CL16 preformed better then CL18
:old_man_yells_at_computer_ram:
Early stages of DDR4 experienced something similar too
What does that mean
A memory rank is a set of DRAM chips on a module
No, I don't think there are any single rank 32 GB DIMMs
this comes b ack to that 2r4c something chart I saw someone comparing trying to explain the rank stuff
At the moment, at least
There's finally a laptop that's good for UE dev: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Super-expensive-MSI-Titan-GT77-HX-arrives-with-a-Core-i9-13980HX-up-to-an-RTX-4090-graphics-and-a-4K-Mini-LED-display.678974.0.html
MSI has announced the Titan GT77 HX at CES 2023. Measuring 397 x 330 x23 mm with a weight of 3.3 kg (7.2 lbs), the laptop is legitimately bulky. But this added size is justified, as the Titan GT77 HX will undoubtedly be in the run for the most powerful gaming notebook on the market with a Core i9-13980HX and up to an RTX 4090.
7000 series X3D as we all knew they would
anyone got experience with g.skill support?
having a faulty module from a kit of 4, wonder if they want the whole kit for RMA
Include all modules of a memory kit for RMA. Memory kits are tested together to ensure compatibility. Compatibility is not guaranteed if a partial kit is returned. oh ffs
it's not like those fools couldn't determine what kind of chips they slapped on the boards by the serial number..
It doesn't say you can't return the entire kit, though.
So you have to return the entire kit?
yes
and they only sell them as kit of 2 -.-
otherwise i would have just risked it and bought a new one
ok, apparently they accept partly kits. so guess i'll just send them 2 sticks and hope that this works out in the end -.-
depending on the manufacturing data records, they probably can't...
well, that thing is 15 months old
guess the real question is if they have spare modules from that series
my guess is that they slap the 3 working modules in a system with a new one, and just check if it's stable and then send me back the 3 working ones + 1 new
I don't even mean age. We only tracked lot numbers of a single chip where I worked first, paper records, and serial numbers weren't recorded, just test results
https://www.espressif.com.cn/en/news/ESP32-P4 if you know what is booming on thing of maker
while interesting, AI instructions is probably just a low bit size bank of integer ALUs running in parallel
SO I have my current rig, which I'll be replacing with a 13900k - it's a 10850k - but it's in a case that needs to be made portable - so I need to get a new motherboard and I'm wondering if I should just bite the building and upgrading unless I could snag a cheap mini itx lga 1200
well I'd prefer not to waste it , so what would be a waste then?
I wouldn't upgrade it, I just want it to fit in a smaller case - so I'm trying to find a cheap used mini-itx board
There's a lot of options
I wouldn't say the majority of mini-itx boards are expensive though
hype for the small build though
I wanted to do one of those myself
I currently have a Corsair obsidian 500D and it's massive
I have a hardware problem guys. Whenever my pc is idle, CPU spikes to 100% in task manager on "system interrupts" I assume, because if I open task manager it instantly closes. same if I open a fan manager to check the temps. If I don't run those all the time then cpu is at 100% and 55 degrees. any clue what's going on?
1.) antivirus
2.) malware
3.) borked power saving stuff
but there are probably more reasons for that
I use the Win antivirus, I scanned with anti-malware. also installed win11
I read it's a "hardware failure"
but I can't tell what or why
I recently rebuild this pc and only kept my ssds
what are the temps when you have task manager open?
normal, under 30c
55-60 when I forget to open task manager
with no programs open, with programs open, it just seems to start if there is no software to see the temps
as soon as I open something it stops ๐
hmm maybe try malware bytes
really quickly see if that picks up anything
if not I'd probably suggest factory reset
it seems more likely to be related to malware imo
HijackThis was pretty much my favorite tool for scanning, when i had to deal with windows...
idk if this is still a good choice tho, specially reading the logs requires some experience, and back then there used to be websites which collect the entries and rate them by their threat
I did, thought it was a crypto miner but nothing abnormal found
Just started UE recently; just curious, at what temp are you all comfortable with running your GPU and CPU at while working on a project?
Just loaded a demo project earlier, only to have my GPU temp spiked up to 80C+
I think I even smelled plastic/metal ๐
depends... in the summer it's often >75ยฐC ๐ญ
I need a new keyboard.
never heard of magnetic siwtches, I think I'll try a magnetic keyboard
I got a Glorious GMMK 2 recently and I love it, really good keyboard (their proprietary switches)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADIMkBp12pM damn.... so much noise with those magnetic switches

This keyboard practically...
keyboard fun
i had the same but for gpu... it was firefox related
if urs is gpu and u dont use firefox its prolly not the same problem tho
mine got fixed with a checkbox in firefox something something hardware acceleration
i seem to be having the same issue sometimes, create a new project and then my CPU goes whirring in the background until i opened the task manager
hmmm
i actually use edge ๐
going to try turning off the hardware acceleration and see if i still get this
I also use Firefox but for me it happens even after booting with nothing running
I opted for a Microsoft 600 keyboard. Didn't want to spend on those fancy RGB keyboards with hot swappable switches
well the point of those it's a really pleasant typing experience
I can't go back to anything else
Yeah can't go back to anything else after using a keyboard with really good mechanical switches
Believe it or not Microsoft makes a killer daily driver keyboard. I've been rocking the MS Business Ergonomic 4000 for years, and before that I was using the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite PS/2 which is the same thing but from last decade. If your using a MS board, I definitely recommend the intellimouse pro, it's one of the only mice out there with a normal shape, and good features. It doesn't look/feel like a RGB gamer spaceship or a razr pinch claw. The optional microsoft mouse and keyboard center program is also great, let's me set hotkeys, macros and shortcut buttons globally and per app, love the thing
what difference high dpi makes for a mouse?
None, set it to 800 or whatever feels good and ignore it
Get an optical mouse, even if you are not gaming you can feel that it is more precise
even with normal tasks
DPI is more of a marketing thing than anything else
What I was referring to is the fact that a lot of manufacturers advertise stuff like 16k dpi... You are never going to use 16k
Because it's nearly impossible to even use lol
what?
high dpi increases the resolution, so smaller movements can get recognized
the cursor moves faster since you didn't adjust the mouse speed to the higher resolution
The higher resolution is pointless
You will have zero difference between 400dpi and 16k
Saying this as someone who has been competing at a somewhat serious level before and is very picky about the sensitivity and everything
Most pros also use either 400 or 800dpi
now i wonder if optical mouse sensors are just mobile phone camera sensors which didn't meet the requirements
since they don't need full rgb spectrum, and may be even good enough with some dead pixels ๐คท
ah, apparently they have way lower resolution, but faster sampling rate
I'm in doubt between MS ergonomical or MS Explorer 3.0
one is a keyboard, the other is a mouse!?
Hey folks, looking to put together a PC for UE5 Game Development, was wondering if anyone finds that they're hitting >64GB RAM usage when developing in Unreal?
Trying to decide between 64GB or 128GB in this new machine... seems the general wisdom is 64 is enough "for now" but UE projects are only getting more hungry
yeah I'm thinking the same
ok that's super helpful thanks Laura, I thought it was worth asking the question because the price is a little eyewatering but as you say: futureproofing
also hitting >64gb by times
but mostly cpu light baking and some custom editor stuff
and unreals plain stupid fbx importer... ๐
I'm a coder not an artist so I'm not expecting to be baking lights etc. but... if I did have to cook a full build my end I don't want to have to say "sorry my PC shat itself" to a client
well, i guess it'll be around a few years, just less used
64GB + 32GB not possible?
sure, but not good
well, unless you have a working setup where you run 2x32GB and 2x16GB in dual channel
but i'm currently running all my memory in single channel and don't notice much of an impact honestly (at least while working)
what is loaded in ram to use more than 64GB? There is that Nvidia Quadro with 48GB
system memory, pretty much anything
video memory, is mostly affected by textures
large scenes => many textures => much vram usage
I've tried a few ergo mice, and a few vertical mice. The intellimouse pro 2019 has been my go to
128GB is enough to install a whole game
depends on the game... mechwarrior 2 was 90MB, if memory serves, but ark with all it's dlcs is over 1TB
Nah, stable diffusion runs great on a 2080ti, you can do one of those stable diffusion VR domes
oO
my laptop has 4GB soldered and one 8GB and I can't go above that
I'll have to try to find them on twitter and see what their settings are, I don't think it was as extreme as that but I don't doubt it
I've never tried it on my own hardware
Are you talking about the old not made anymore intellimouse explorer classic that has those sensors all the OCD mice people rave about?
I don't think they make the explorer line anymore and it's like a collectors thing for people who care about a specific line of optical sensors
some mouses are advertised as "laser"
laser > infrared?
just checked, laser is more sensitive and works on glossy surfaces
Will you ever use a glossy surface?
everything is glossy to some degree
what's the vantablack reflectance curve outside the visible spectrum
How much money is needed (good to invest into) for a good a computer to develop on unreal engine 5 as an hobby? (mid dev here with last knowledge on unity)
I'm running with gtx 970 and i5-4690k and 8gb ram rip
Not much I think
also if you are fine with used hardware
doesn't have to be the newest tech to get started, but your current system isn't really a pleasure to use either
well, case and psu should be okay even if you upgrade
so that saves you ~$200, or โฌ seem like you are from italy?!
well he can mess around with his current setup, too....
but can't expect much from that, specially since the 8GB memory are really a bottleneck there
Right guess
I'm just doing the stack-o-bot tutorial
Mostly played with card games and such on unity
idk about the requirements of that one...
but for a new system you probably should at least invest 1000โฌ to get something reasonable better, maybe you can save a few bucks if you buy an used system
you would need new mainboard, cpu, cpu cooler, memory, an 1TB SSD and GPU
where are you buying it from?
I don't know yet. If shipping from China is cheaper, then China
if your not buying it from the microsoft store directly, your RNGing it from some seller. You may have been reading about it from an old article
that mouse in the screenshot is no longer made, this is all they currently have
Shop our collection of mice โ Shop these 20 items and explore Microsoft Store for great apps, games, laptops, PCs, and other devices.
"Optical" (is that infrared?) is more tolerant of surfaces, while laser seems to be more precise or offer better stats on paper.
I had a BlueTrackโข๏ธ mouse and the sensor itself became less sensitive overtime to the point it needed at least a light grey surface.
Isn't laser the IR one? I.e. it's an IR laser.
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51QWdUr1PZL._AC_SL1000_.jpg This is what I've been using for the last 6 years
6 years? Mouse must be broken. It shouldn't be designed to live that long.
it still works
If you can afford it, go with 16 GB (2x8 GB) RAM
Uhh
If you had 32GB you wouldn't have this problem.
...For another 8 minutes approximately.
if compiling code or shaders / lights takes so much ram, what happens if you don't have enough? it takes way more time with virtual memory?
Either that, or your whole system completely froze
is it possible to compile in parts?
you can reduce the amount of parallel compiler processes
usually unreal launches as many as you have logical cores, and each process takes ~2GB memory
so if you configure it to only launch 1 process, it will only consume 2gb system memory, but will be slower
I think I'll get MS Precision mouse. It offers a wire and the wire can be unplugged. The other one has a fixed wire.
games can stream data to use less ram. To compile, does it require to load everything at once?
my first UE4 project is env art. I wan to make a building
all I have is i5 dual core, 12GB ram
1,5 gb
tho can you lower that?
to allow for more to be done parallelly
You can remove it completely.
Doesn't mean it'll be able to actaully do it.
<Configuration xmlns="https://www.unrealengine.com/BuildConfiguration">
<ParallelExecutor>
<MemoryPerActionBytes>0</MemoryPerActionBytes>
</ParallelExecutor>
</Configuration>```
BuildConfiguration.xml
ok imma do tht
wait i cant find that file
the BuildConfiguration.xml
google it
like i searched for it
wait
it was in hidden files
how could i limit it at like 1,2 gb
Expect builds to take hours.
UE4 used to compile for whole 24 hours on those things
Not to mention compiling shaders can slow down things by huge margin
..... logitech MX vertical costs 94$. Way more than Microsoft intellimouse, 3 times more
Windows 7 probably
laughs at 8 core / 16 threads
Laughs with 32 cores / 64 threads
you guys don't have a cray cluster at home?
i had a dual core mac from 2010, the windows experience wasn't great
true lmao
i want to see those charts with 5900X / 5950X
who cares about 6/8 core cpus if they show of how fast 12c cpu's can be -.-
yea but beside of that it's an interesting cpu
my goto tech news site here also recommended it for most use cases
Is a ryzen 7 5700x decent vs a ryzen 5 3600 that I have now? Intel is awful in terms of wattage and perfomance, lagging behind really, but the prices on AMD aren't as competitive as before.
Why not go for R 7 5800X?
what's your argument in favour of it? I'm just curious, cuz I have no reason to change as is. The 5700x seems decent, but again I care more about power to price as a ratio
5800X has slightly more power than 5700X while pricing wise isn't that far off.
Though not denying possibility if you have more tight budget, but you can sacrifice on other components.
Seems reasonable
well the non-X ones changed that a bit apparently
well there's still that heat spreader fiasco
which is probably because they wanted it to be AM4 cooler compatible

well that guy also sells tools for this, so it seems to be kind of safe... but i wouldn't either i guess ๐
ah, so you got that "special" mount for your cpu?
I'm back with updates! Is this good a good upgrade? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6Vpshk
I currently have i5-4690k, and gtx 970.
Is it a flexible upgrade if I later wanna invest in GPU?
Part List - Intel Core i7-11700K
I got advised by a friend, I'm not really an expert
I have no clue if I should ditch my old build completely
I have "virtually" no budget but I would like to spend only on what I need
Which is a decent computer to learn unreal
Yes I struggle opening it
You can learn unreal on a phone with google.
If you want to actually use it effectively, you need a powerhouse.
I mean I program for living and love games so could be a good investment
Yeah that is true but trying to do the stack o bot tutorial with my computer is a struggle, I'm fluent with unity since it's more flyweight
So budget for that would be around 1400+?
I have EUR, rip
Italy
Don't buy a laptop.
๐
First thing to learn in budgeting computers.
They aren't necessarily bad, just expensive.
Yeah in the good old 2015 I built mine, I think I can do it again ahahah
But I think I'll have to scrap everything, save probably hdd
If it's a sata hdd, you're better off buying a new nvme ssd
And some random fan that I bought later BC was thinking the pc was on fire
Hehe
Also pro tip for saving money, just taking the side of your case is 10x better than buying a case with good airflow.
Even with a 4090, you probably won't need over an 800W PSU
4090s consume what? 500W?
600?
Then probably a 900W PSU!
So If I have bit of money to spare would be good investment to go 13th gen i5/i7, 32 ram and a better gpu
Can't escape 1400+
๐
My keyword would be "big improvement for not that much money'
I have spare money but if it 's useless why spend it
Useless for my needs I mean
Hmm
also DDR5 has always ECC if im not wrong
which can save you from a lot of trouble...
not?
i thought it's in the standard
but at least it informs about defect memory?!
it just cant correct
well, it's not thaaaat expensive anymore?
for 32GB DDR4 sticks it was like ~30% more expensive
This hasn't been true for a long time. Threadrippers are actually faster in games than Ryzen parts of the same gen due to high clocks and cache.
They have lower clocks than their desktop counterparts, though.
Threadripper (non-Pro) is roughly equivalent.
Anyone with a 5950x want to compare single thread performance then? ๐
thats not always true, it took a ryzen 9 3950x to outperform a threadripper 2950x a full gen diference
Well that's kinda the point, isn't it?
the 2x TRs are released contemporarily with the 3x ryzens.
No they're not.
The 5x TRs were released earlier this year and the 7x ryzens are out not so long after.
The 5x ryzens were release ages ago.
I'm willing to bet there won't be a 7x Tr out until the 9x ryzens are almost out.
There was no Zen 3 Threadripper. You mean Threadripper Pro, which isn't what we're talking about.
exactly, it took a zen3 to outperform a zen2 tr
Threadripper Pro are like full-fledged workstation parts, and you could only buy them from OEM channels for a while. They have a bunch of data center features and lower clocks than regular Threadripper because they're designed to be run 24/7.
you mean server parts i guess
since a workstation isn't used 24/7
so kind of a small epyc?
There's still a distinction between workstation and server parts. Neither of the Threadripper lines are Epyc. Basically Threadripper Pro is "serious workstation" and Threadripper is "mainstream workstation". Both are technically HEDT, though non-pro Threadripper is most commonly associated with the term.
which is exactly, why ryzen parts have to be a full gen ahead of the regular TR's in order to compete properly
Yeah the Threadrippers can't game thing really only applied to Zen and maybe Zen+. From Zen 2 onward equivalent Threadripper parts outperformed Ryzen parts in a lot of gaming scenarios, so basically Threadrippers have no weakness
Fair enough!
the TR's do have one weakeness....cpu AVX encoding on the fly is dog poop until the tr3's
Laura's correct about DDR5's on-chip ECC. It does not provide anything for consumers other than cheaper DDR5 DIMMs. It was added to the DDR5 standard to counteract the increasing difficulty of maintaining stability when using denser chips fabricated on smaller processes. Like the standard before it, DDR5 increases the chip density by 4x (from 16 Gb to 64 Gb), allowing a max DIMM size of 128 GB (2Rx8: 2 x 8 x 64 Gb) and a total capacity of 512 GB in a 2DPC configuration for consumers.
so even a defect memory stick would go "unnoticed" and it couldn't report that?
We're talking about the individual memory chips on the stick in regards to DDR5's on-chip ECC. They still sell ECC DIMMs for DDR5.
How much bottlenecking would occur (if any) on an 10th gen i9, (10850K) and a 4090?
what do I do?
Buy a better computer?
Use ultra low settings?
Set the engine scalability in the viewport down to minimum everything. Turn off virtual shadow maps and lumen.
something was using the cpu. After closing and reopening, it's running at 60fps windowed
if you're in IT and have a linux server, every time someone complains about it, run the following in the console:
cat /dev/random >/dev/null&
6 FPS on an image of turd?
intel did KS launch and some overlocking records too
I got a new nas over the holiday for suuuuper cheap
Ts-873a + 32gb ram kit + 1tb SSD for the price of the 6 bay 8gb version
Just upgraded my whole PC. 7950x and 4090, but I only got 32GiB of RAM and regret it. My C++ build actions are capping at 3-4 parallel processes because of available memory. I will return the RAM and upgrade but I'm wondering whether to go for 64 or 128 (I know the latency issues with 128).
My project is only small at the moment. 2gb used by unreal, 10gb used by rider.
What would people recommend? Do you make use of 64gb+ of RAM?
What are you running that you're using 26gb of ram before compiling?
You absolutely will use 64gb of ram if you compile a lot.
I would go 64GB at 6000Mhz, or 128GB at much lower speed (since it won't reach those speeds and slower is cheaper). Would rather not end up buying two sets of fast RAM
But that is probably a decent option nonetheless
I'm not really sure what's using all the RAM. Editor is 2GB, Rider is 10GB, Browser 2GB, Teams 1GB (wtf), Discord according to Task Manager... but then the "in use" memory is reported quite a lot higher, at 26GB. Live coding doesn't seem to ask for more memory than the remaining 6GB, even if maybe the system would flush some things out to make space for it
2 sets of ram is never a good idea. Especially at high speeds. A very small timing inconsitsency and your system is crashing 24/7.
Yeah don't really want to mess around with instability, its also my work PC
so I would probably run them slower, like 4000 or so I guess?
indeed, that's like 3200 I think
not sure how much of a performance hit that would be
yeah, just if I'm never going to use more than 64GB I might as well go for faster RAM but less of it
I do kinda want 128GB though, just seems fun ๐
What did you go for out of interest?
Thanks
i don't even notice a difference between single and dualchannel with 3600MHz DDR4
Hi, I got Ryzen 5 3600X and I want to know..if upgrade to Ryzen 9 5900X. So is this a worthwhile purchase? in terms of creating builds and overall lights, shadows.
If you still have the budget, go a step further to Ryzen 9 5950X
and then a 5900x is fine
i wouldn't go for the 5950x if you are on tight budget, rather invest the money somwhere else, e.g. memory
Very broad question, but reckon going from 32 to 64 gigs of ram would make a difference?
My system is a little slow changing between C++ and BP, feels like it could be a bit snappier.
Yeah
I don't think my CPU is overly bottled necked. My memory is hitting at around 80% in just editor + in debug.
mmm maybe I just need a nice restart. This thing has been on for a while.
yeah I got FF in the background, that's probably taking up a lot w/ video
Well, I couldnt..
bcs MB
I have B450 Pro4, which couldnt handle enough power for that cpu
Then definitely pair up with RTX GPU to harness GPU Lightmass to speed things up more
Is the ryzen 7 5800x 3dv good for 3d (blender, unreal engine) also good for editing (After effect) and also for gaming (FPS in 1920*1080 minimum 240 FPS full low)?
Rendering wise, it depends more on the GPU
But for compiling code or making builds, you're good to go with that CPU, expecting ยฑ1 hour for larger projects
and is an rtx 3060 ti + 32 gb 3200 mhz c16 good?
I'd say that's good enough.
the TI only has 8GB iirc?!
rather get a non-ti with 12GB
@iron zenith it's still compiling (had to run it again for a change in the project settings, currently performance optimising) but I found out it didn't have a custom cooler, it's the stock intel cooler.
Thermal paste might be the problem. It's 5 years old now.
Used it practically every day since. Every day
It has a 1080TI 11GB which still performs extremely well, too
Well, I start to hear my cooling fan when I'm going to 60 or above, this is somehow unnerving to me ever since I got this machine ๐
Also, there's something else, I quite like 30fps since it feels more cinematic, especially when using effects like motion blur on top of everything. 60fps looks too much like a "game" to me. It something else when playing certain games like Doom Eternal for example of course. But this I do on my PS5.
Something else: it turns out I had two instances running (accidentally) when compiling earlier. Now I have one instance, same amount of compiling and it gets to 85 max.
It's still high but nothing compared to earlier. How can that be?
Damn...!
Why!!
That is really uncool ๐
I'm a fan of stock/vanilla components usually. Not a fan of overclocking by so-called "professionals" etc.
But I also hate the cheapo-approach of a lot of hardware manufacturers.
That's a valuable advice, thank you!
What (!)
I would never even... man, so my whole "always stay vanilla" might not have done me that good after all ๐ค
Well I do have a "stock" overclocked 1080Ti from MSI, and I "underclocked" this one to the original NVidia factory values. I like to think that's why it's still like new.
Well I sure hope so...
Hmm, you already helped a lot actually. I don't know if you'd mind but - could you recommend me a card to go for when I get a new machine? I really love my 1080Ti.
But I don't know what's as good as that one was back in the day.
Oh that's good, thanks so much!
guys i have ryzen 7 2700x 16gb ram and rx 590. my ram is 2666hz and i want upgrade it. do i put more 16 gb 2666 or do i buy a brand new 32gb 3200hz?
i usually use ue5 and vs 2022/rider
Patchable. Anything on performance hit?

608 vs 34
woohoo
well, let's wait for what they say about microcode updates
maybe they already patched some, and they're part of more recent bios versions
yea ik, intel does make more consumer hardware of all kind
Wait, Intel still making smartphone CPUs?
I remember back then Zenfone phones would have Intel CPUs, but nowadays it's Qualcomm stuff
These days its mostly Qualcomm and MediaTek afaik (they also have some really good SoCs these days)
intel however does also a lot of network stuff
Best Laptop for UE5?
the one that is able to keep up with your requirements
what to do with a rasp pi zero w, what to do. Any ideas?
(and a couple picos, but those are less cool)
what is your budget?
Personally, I would try to match these specs as closely as possible, it's not easy to find a laptop with over 6gb vram but they are definitely out there. search for "workstation laptops with gpus"
i would say it depends on the projects and budget, and then my answer applies

yeah, this isn't a topic worth fighting over
any air cooler for 7950x with headroom for overclocking?
hey peops
i got a such a stupid problem i dont know any more answers for.
we bought a standalone case for our 3080ti so to run our packaged architectural walkthroughs on it with our 2080 laptop.
and most of them just work fine, accept the new gpu and run smoothly
but there is one particular stupid game that just outright refuses.
we told it in graphi settings to take it, it doesnt want to.
we deactivated the 2080, game used intels inside graphics.
we deactivated that as well, suddenly it takes just the CPU.
we're somewhat at the end of our latin as we like to say in german
You could try removing the cpu too? ๐
well we thought about deactivating the cpu but only for a quick laugh ๐
cpu gives a framerate of one
but its not 1 fps
more like 1ffe
1 frame forever
something like 30spf
lol
"Frame rate of one". It just renders 1 frame and then gives up.
yep
I believe seconds per frame was first used to describe crysis on high settings as a more useful metric than milliframes per second
cant open bridge as well in that particular project, so must be something thats left from the migration of 4.27 to ue5.1 thats ffing us up
Thanks! Budget is around 4K$
Are you making PC or console games?
4K USD can get you top of the line gaming laptops already
my mouse, keyboard, mic and headset all disconnects when am compiling code, (beside from mic everything else is wireless)
any reason and solution for this?
this does not happen when am playing high level games so idk what could be causing unreal engine to do that
PC VR
In which countries Mac Mini is cheaper or close to US prices?
Games probably don't require your CPU that much.
If USB devices disconnect then it might be that your USB Driver died. Which of course shouldn't happen even with high CPU usage :D
USB driver died that sounds scary, any way i can confirm that or solve that if that is the case
is windows really able to bring up a crashed driver again?
also I have played games that would use 100% of ram and almost gpu and high amount of cpu
Pretty sure. I have a faulty port on my case that caused similar stuff
If you want to check if it's high CPU usage, then you could simply download and perform a stresstest
fwiw you can also do the usual thing of updating everything you can
Including your USB Drivers if there are new ones for your Mainboard
as a workaround you could limit the number of cores used for compile, but as eXi said, it shouldn't happen in the first place. pretty weird
welp those are uptodate lol
could also be a weak 5V power on your PSU
750W but its borunze so that could be an issue
if you got an usb hub which has it's own power supply, it might be worth testing with everything connected to the HUB
nah, 750W should be okay, if it's not a cheap no name one
(and you dont use an amd epyc cpu :D)
people say borunze is bad ๐
people say a lot of weird things about PSUs
got ryzen 7 ๐
yea that draws literary max 300W in total when you compile (measured that on a 5950x with 16 threads, full system was <300W)
it could be caused by rider, i was testing with other IDE and so far no issue, need to do further testing
so wait compiling in c++ draws 300W out of 750
even less, 300W was on the plug, so it's ~270W if not less
idk if thats a lot or less lol in average comparing to other components using power
just saying that's what's to be expected with full load on the cpu, so it wouldn't even come close to the limits of your 750W PSU
so unless something in the PSU is broken, it won't cause any issues for your USB stuff
my pc does randomly now and then restarts by itself
as if it shutsdown and within 1sec turn back on
just shut off and restart?
well now that sounds like a power problem...
or some other faulty hardware
.> how do i check that
stress test everything
sounds scary
start with something that utilizes everything, like cinebench/furmark/etc.
idk never done these things and I don't wanna take any risks, but thx for the info I will see what I can do
there aren't any real risks
hardware these days starts to throttle itself if it runs too hot
no
but if it's really the PSU, it could cause damage long term, depending on what is defect
Doing nothing is gonna bite you eventually
you could start in the bios, there should be one page which lists the PSU voltages, take a photo from that, post it here and ping me
so at least you know that it doesn't work out of specs on a regular basis ๐
alright I will see if i can find it
where do I find this info from
depends on your mainboard, so guess best place is to check the user manual
some mainboard bios might even tell you if there's something wrong
i will try look online
I found a software that seem to show voltage usage
its called HWMonitor @median marsh
yea it might not show all, but it's a start
so what should i do now, i installed the thing
make a screenshot of the voltages
under idle, and then under load (while you compile)
stupid question, but do you reside in north america?
It's the NSA, clearly
if the voltage switch on the psu is set to rest-of-the-world 220V while line voltage is north american 120V, it can sometimes work with issues like this
but don't just flip the setting and try, if you're in a 220V country you will blow stuff up
are there still PSUs with switches these days?
i haven't seen them in a loooong time, but i live in EU
nope
i mean i have had this for about 3 years now so I am guessing it is 220v
do u want me to check just for cpu voltage usage
@median marsh I checked my cpu first and well the voltage seems stable not going high much comparing to idle, as for power it went from 20 -25W upto 35-40W
idk if that enough is relavent lol
now turning on rider after creating class seems to be using around 60W
nvm went to 70W for a sec
not stable values not sure if that matters
but all this is power being supplied to each core, am just giving average
(it goes from current value to min to max)
the current value seem to be unstable they seem to be going down to 1.200 or 1.300 and then back to 1.4kV
It did that thing again(my things got disconnected) but the values were stable, nothing really changed or spiked down or up
those are all irrelevant
what's more relevant is the other voltage values from your mainboard
those
ok I will get thos
I was testing rn to see if perhaps Rider IDE is the issue here maybe
one thing noticed from trying different IDE, its faster to build file and restart unreal
and compile
there's no way that this is related to the IDE
did you maybe pick another build target in one or the other?
the IDE always runs UBT (unreal build tool) which does the compiling, so there can't be any speed difference between IDEs
rider comes with its own build target not sure what it is but its set to default which builds only when unreal engine is close.
as for visual studio code am using
@median marsh
this was taken when things got disconnected
and this is the idle voltage (while having google stuff open no unreal)
this time for some reason when creating new unreal engine and opening it the disconnection happened again.
also I have unreal engine 5.0 and 5.1 installed (these tests were done using 5.1
also I don't get disconnection issue when making blueprint projects.
its only when I make C++
The fact disconnection happened while opening new unreal engine c++ project is weird
well, that all looks kind of okay to me
you should make one screenshot while compiling (and having 100% cpu load)
what do u mean by 100% cpu load, like somehow make my cpu be used 100%
yes, like compiling stuff...
if are taking about just compiling then nothing much changes, unless you want me to create multiple classes and compile them after to get higher cpu usage (sorry if am not understanding clearly)
well, that would be ideal, otherwise just get something that stresses the cpu, like a cpu benchmark
well my ram is sky rocketing lol
also I deleted 5.1 and decided to just use 5.0 for now (its what am using for uni stuff as it is)
so far created and compiled few times (lots) and no disconnection issue with 5.0
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
2 years ago when I was using unreal engine I had no issue as such, unreal engine felt like a normal engine
now it feels like full of problems its almost as if it rejects me xD
maybe something about 5.1 is causing problem or maybe download issue who knows
at least 5.0 seems to be not causing any issue
compiled over 15 or something it went max up to 60% cpu usage
ok, there's nothing standing out bad tho
and if you say it only happens with 5.1 and not 5.0 it might not be a hardware problem
good -.-
well i guess i will stick to 5.0.. kinda wanna spend time learning spend 3 days trying to make unreal work -.-
@median marsh thx alot for trying to help me <3
Chaining 8 of them would be 384 GB of RAM
48 GB what the fuck
That's more than I have in one stick damn I want to get a fucking wait how much do they cost I need two of those
would you be interested in a usb ram stick?
no
why does no one want external high-speed usb-based ram?
cuz internal is better?
and not always suitably upgradeable
the write and read speeds are probably terrible
bandwidth is comparable to ram but usb overhead results in significant latency
One of the problems I think of is when you go to sleep mode external drive disconnects, no?
Just throw old one and buy new?
Do you know what kinds of speeds each have
And latency
usb can push 10GB/s, ddr5 barely bests 30GB/s, so it's probably fine as a swap file
What
not always possible, especially on some laptops
Only the cutting edge is 10GB/s
It's always possible on Desktop
yeah, comparing high speed 3.1 to the latest ram standard is fair
Also you are trying to pass a parallel interface thats next to a cpu over a serial interface that's very far away
Do you know what result that will have ?
some small form factors don't have enough slots
It's not just the GB/s
significantly increased access times
Yeah it will be no different than using a high speed external nvme as page file
You are actually better off with using your computer's ssd to do that
There is a reason no one has done it
It's dumb asf
nvme's slow and flash does wear out
You are limited by the bus anyway
And it won't even be cheaper than just getting more ram
which is, again, not always an option
When?
some laptops, small form factor computers, embedded systems, older processors...
Hi! I'm building a PC mainly for UE development (and occasionally some small machine learning tasks), will 4090 be much better and more future-proof than, let's say, 3090Ti, since they both have 24gb? (as in "performance per dollar" or smth)
Or maybe, can 3070Ti run the development just fine? (e.g. would something like "the Matrix City project with additional logic + more foliage + VR support" be smooth enough to work with?)
Currently it feels so wrong having to wait 1h for shaders compiling before opening any small example project (with my current setup), so I guess that more ram and more cpu cores should impact that more than any gpu upgrade?
I'm also curious if there's any point in getting 12900K instead of 12700K if I can't fit a 420mm cooling in a case, and all good 360mm are out-of-stock here, leaving only mediocre ones ๐ค
regarding the cpu, upgrade potential when coolers are back in stock
Are you sure you want to go with water cooling?
That's a pretty good point, thank you ^^
Some research gave me the idea that only a nocturne d15 can decently keep up with a 12900k, and those are unavaliable here (also I just don't want heavy bulky air coolers to hang on a motherboard anymore)
I'd rather do that than have water inside my main pc
It sounds alot more frightening to have water
but is this fright?
On the same day when we achieved the first 9 GHz CPU overclock, we also tried two Core i9-13900KS processors on liquid helium. The results were not as great as 9 GHz unfortunately but we still achieved a respectable 8785 MHz.
In this video I want to show that the liquid helium extreme overclocking sessions don't always go smoothly and it can be...
is there a huge difference between 4000 dpi and 1600 dpi for a vertical mouse? Delux has a mouse similar to MX vertical, 25$ vs Logitech 90$.
no
Logitech MX Vertical is so expensive. I'm going to buy Delux M618Plus instead, much cheaper
unless you want movement in <0.01mm precision
Even then games are supposed to be tested with average peripherals
Wow that looks like a terrible idea! Even industrial temperature range ICs are only rated to -40C. The thermal stresses and brittle materials...
inb4 liquid helium cooler 24/7
just finished building my UE5 rig
Nice, would recommend 64gb of ram tho
is there anyway of limiting UE5 from using EVERY CPU thread while compiling? basically makes my PC unusable, would like to make it only use 30 of 32 so i can at least doom scroll YouTube or something while i wait for the compile to finish
Source code compiling or?
any shader compile, just reallowed static lighting in my project and had to wait like 10-15 mins twiddling my thumbs lol
Ah no clue about shaders and lighting, someone else might know
There's a setting where you can specify the number of processes it can use. I forget exactly where.
But it is possible.
An ini setting for in engine use. Xml for cpp compiling.
There's a setting where you can specify the number of processes it can use. I forget exactly where.
BaseEngine.ini under DevOptions.Shaders for shader compiling. For Lightmass, you can configure it in the Swarm Agent's Settings tab.
diamond, cheers guys
see you on the flippity flop
There's a global processor count override, for everything.
I'm going to reconsider buying the Delux M618Plus
found a review. It has a metallic weight inside for some reason, low quality sensor and somebody posted on reddit that it can damage your wrist because of its angle
4 votes and 4 comments so far on Reddit
gaming mouses have 16k - 20k dpi but are much more expensive
Hi guys, I was wondering, what's usually the VRAM usage for you in Unreal in different scenarios? I want to buy the 4070 ti but I'm worried about it having only 12gb of VRAM...
12 GB VRAM is sufficient for making games, but might not enough for linear cinematic filmmaking
That's great then! Thanks for the help
Any tips for building ue5 computer? Thinking about AM5 vs AM4 amd platform (if 5700X is enough) and gpu is another question (3060 rtx seems to be quite budget option but is it worth it the savings?]
You can pretty much get away with anything with 16 threads, 32gb of memory and at least 10-12gb of vram and an ssd. Obviously much more is much better.
I would not recommend going lower than those specs.
well, depends on what kind of projects you have in mind
for a lot of simple things you might get away with 8 cores/16 threads and still have a comfortable environment seems like we agree on this ^^
Ah. Yeah. I should say 16 threads.
5700X has 12threads, interesting i would expect to be enough - nope i am wrong it has 16 sorry ๐
You're probably okay with that tbh. It'll only effect things like building shaders and lighting.
As long as the single thread is good.
And, ah, it's 16. You're fine.
Paget systems has good UE performance graphs.
Hi all! Can I upload here a screenshot from my browser with a PC build for 1440p gaming? It`s not in english, the site have no ENG language option sorry. And tell me please if this build is O.K.? I am not a PC tech expert, and my english is also kinda rusty sorry ๐
So this is it. Mainly for 1440p gaming. I have a 12 years old PC. So I need to upgrade ๐
Hard to say if AMD is not better price/performance. Hi from Czech Republic! ๐
I have currently a 2nd generation i5 Cpu, so I`d like to stick with Intel i5 preferably. Hi there! ๐
I am also running on OCed 2500k sandy bridge but thinking about AM4 platform because of the pricing with new AM5
You can link, what build you have in plan to buy, if you want. I take a look (as a non-pc-tech-expert).
i would rather get M2 NVME ssd's than this old SATA garbage ๐
I checked those too, SSD integraded right into the main board is cool, but very expensive.
not that much more expensive, if more expensive at all...
Other components sit?
i would pick a 3090 over a 4070, at least for dev work...

.cz = Czech
me Slovakia
The prices are changing each day.
2TB 970 evo m2 nvme is 175โฌ here, so it costs the same as the 4TB sata one
so choose m2 SSD , which is intergrated into the main board is better solution? Thx for help! I check again the prices.
wait that was B2B without VAT nvm it wasnt
In the long run, yeah
This is my current UE5 planned build @zinc ingot https://www.alza.cz/nakupni-seznamy.htm?sharelist=7A666C70676D6A7C6
not sure about the power supply
e.g. this one: https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/2TB-Samsung-970-Evo-Plus-M-2-2280-PCIe-3-0-x4-3D-NAND-TLC--MZ-V7S2T0BW-_1310140.html
it's ~200โฌ but it's a trustworthy seller
well its not integrated, its just connected to the mother board (je to podobne jako SATA, akorat se to vlozi do konektoru na zakladni desce)
well, the ones you can plug on the mainboard are ~10 times faster
I would put min 32 gb of ram in the pc for unreal
is 970 better than Kingston KC3000? probably worth the swap
i don't have experience with the kingston
its planned, only one set of ram is included
but 3x Samsung 970 Evo (Plus) without problems
seems to be slower (samsung)
but maybe more reliable since price is similar
ah PCIE 3 vs 4 (kingston)
what mans NVMe in SSD description?
you don't need cooling compound, the cooler is shipped with some
and i personally would go for a x570 mainboard
the kc3000 is newer
nvme is just a term for SSD
better chipset? I will conside that
yes, if you plan to add a 2nd SSD it plays a role
ah right..
usually only the first SSD and GPU have direct connection to the cpu, everything else goes through the chipset (sound, network, 2nd ssd, any other pci ex cards)
on B550 the speed from chipset to cpu is pciex3, on x570 it's pciex4
so way faster
not sure how far to the future i should look with the fact that I am ignoring AM5 platform and staying with AM4
but probably woth the extra penny
AM4 is still a pretty solid platform imho
guess that system will last you a bunch of years
my current i5 2500k + 970 is running solid 12years ๐
I found only this 3090 in my country to buy: MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GAMING TRIO 24G for 1329 ,- Eur So I think 4070 Ti for around 925,- Eur is better, also less Watts it consumes, I guess. But half the VRam of the 3090 Ti . I just want this PC for gaming in 1440p

gotta go, thx for suggestions, will read rest later, good night!
so I change the 1 TB SSD I had in the build I sent above (on the pic) to this: Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1000 GB SSD - disk M.2 (PCIe 3.0 4x NVMe), TLC (Triple-Level Cell) right? I can`t find a 4 TB version for a good/lower price like the one above on pic. or I send the pic again here:
Can this SSD M.2 work together with the 4 TB SSD on the picture belove? Like I said I am not a pc tech expert ๐
yes they will work together
how much is the 2TB version for you?
i would really consider going 2x 2TB M2, and removing the other SSDs from the list
that should cost you about the same, will be way faster (but you'll only have 4TB instead of 5TB)
which should be sufficient for a while, and you can add a normal SATA ssd later if you run out of space
On this website I can not find any M.2 SSD, or I am blind really.
I had to find it on other site.
give me a link to the website please
in DM I guess, because its not english one
you can post it here, i'll take the strike if that's against the rules ๐
https://tvojpc.sk/ Pevnรฉ disky >>> Internรฉ disky (Hard Drives>>> Internal Drives)
moment
https://tvojpc.sk/produkt/samsung-970-evo-plus-1tb-mz-v7s1t0bw/ Can`t find a 4 TB version of M.2 unfortunately.
there isn't, that's why i said to take 2x 2TB M.2 instead of 1x4TB + 1x1TB SATA
thx
don't buy the SATA ssds that you had in the list at all, neither of them
ok thx are they outdated or ?
if you run out of the 4TB you can still consider getting an SATA SSD, or another 2TB M.2 (since your board seems to have 3 slots for them)
well, SATA is limited to 600MB/sec, the M.2 ones will do 3500MB/sec
so 5 times faster
and SATA goes always through the chipset, which again shares bandwidth with other components like network, sound, etc.
SATA is good for HDDs, but it limits modern SSDs
Thx for infos.
I had in plan to buy 1 TB ssd for windows 11 and 4 TB SSd for games, videos, pics etc.
How many GB Win 11 installation needs?
no idea
and the i5-13600 K is enough for games and for few years right?
consider using the first 2TB for windows + unreal stuff (you'll be happy about having 2TB at some point) and 2TB for games
idk anything about the new intel cpu's, our expert in that field just left the server a few days ago ๐
Who it was? Ohh
Laura
Why She left? Sad news. I was talking with Her before here.
no idea
but searching in this channel for 13600k it seems like many people picked that one and don't regret it
Thx for helps and suggestions to all! โค๏ธ
Well, I forgot to ask 1 more question. My current PC have this problem: when I launch a game, the monitor switch turns orange (from green) and after that few seconds later, my PC have some very loud strange noise, and it totally freezes. I picked out the rams, cleaned them, but still doing this. Which component could be the prblem here? Any idea how to figure it out? Its`s a very old pc probably thats why, but I am sad about it, really! Thx!
Is this PC capable of 1440p gaming?
https://www.alza.sk/EN/rapture-alder-core-rtx3060ti-d7365926.htm#parametry
Yes
the country's smaller than my home state, for reference
Hi again! Can anyone recommend a good PC Cleaner program to me please? Can be a paid one, but with 1 time purchase if possible, not a program which needs to be paid every year. Thx!
Don't use any of them
use built in things like storage sense
storage clean up
and delete files manually
if you're on windows that is
Honestly if something is really fucked with your PC or you're too lazy you could always reset it and backup what you do need
That or it's the thousands of viruses that are clogging up his system from the prolific porn habit he's developed.
Just buy your porn like successful indie game devs do
it seems that cheap mosue with 30.000 dpi doesn't exist. I'm looking for some option at around 4k dpi
I don't even think that 30k DPI is necessary
i don't even think that 4k dpi is necessary
found one article comparing to screen resolution and a monitor with with such high dpi doesn't exist
a monitor has usually ~72 - 150dpi
highest DPI you'll find in mobile devices these days, which can have ~500dpi as they have small screens with high resolution
you don't need more than 800, anything more than that is useless/pointless
found a site describing mouse acceleration and pooling rate
https://thegamingsetup.com/gaming-mouse/buying-guides/flawless-mouse-sensor-list lowest dpi in this list is 3000
Pixart generally has the best sensors
It will usually have at least 8k DPI generally, most professional players usually use 400-800 dpi
Pooling rate is unrelated to the sensor
I'm more concerned about vertical mouse than 30k dpi
well, the polling rate should at least hold up with the sensor resolution ๐
oh nvm, apparently polling rate is mouse => pc
not sensor => mouse
yea well, even 500hz polling is pointless
if your mouse position only updates at 100fps for example
Surely, though, if you move the mouse quickly, there's a chance the sensor may get desynced from what it's sensing? So a higher polling rate is better, even if it's higher than the mouse update rate.
Say, for instance, you have a regular surface, you may move it sufficiently between imaging that it thinks it hasn't moved - akin to how a car's tyres can seem to stand still or go backwards when it's moving forward at speed.
Assuming polling rate is linked to the cmos capture speed, at least.
it's not, that was an wrong assumption of me
apparently it's the rate at which the mouse reports updates to the host/computer
but as you said, the sampling frequency of the sensor plays a high role, too
but since they seem to have low resolution ~19x19 pixel sensors, i guess that the high dpi mouses always have an high enough sample rate of the sensor data
ok so I bought this laptop and everything is fine with it besides the fact that the battery doesn't function correctly (so it never charges), It says thats the error when booting up the pc, just want to know if I replace it will that fix the problem
maybe rhetorical but want to hear other experiences
Well, I WAS warned
About?
Not getting the rated speed when it's in 128
GB
I was hoping to get about 4,800 but this was my first custom loop and we're just doing the first initial posting
Ah.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure everyone has been saying "4 sticks and you'll get slower ram" for the past year in here ๐
Indeed - I wonder if there would be some script one could set up where You could disable two out of the four sticks and then run the and then run the two others at full speed
Would require a reboot but I didn't think you could do that with BIOS profiles that just disable the RAM like it's a component in the device manager, I would think you just have to pull out the dimm.itself
.
Incidentally I can't figure out why I can't see my bio screen if I have my GPU plugged in - If I unplug it, everything posts fine and I can fiddle with bio stuff -. Doesn't matter if I have the GPU plugged into a monitor or not, Even when I am getting a cable from the integrated graphics I can't see anything
When I unplug the PSU connection to the video card and turn the system back on it's fine
I would yank out b2 and a2 and see what happens.
I already did that, that wasn't the issue
Set the speeds manually and hope for the best?
Literally right now if I turn off the system, disconnect main power, then pull the PSU cable from the GPU itself, It will work - I moved on from the memory for the time being I'm just trying to figure out why the GPU won't work and conjunction
No idea but it's a 1600 w power supply I'm pretty sure I'm good on that front
There is a six-pin plug that I was told I could use that plugs into the motherboard as an additional power device and that is plugged in on VGA 3
raising memory voltage can help, but you should know what you are doing
Guys this has nothing to do with memory right now
All four sticks are in and the system will post just fine unless the GPU is powered on
Right now my plan is just to install Windows using integrated graphics and then see what happens after the fact
so wait
If it won't post without windows installed, it won't post with it installed.
it posts with gpu if you remove some memory sticks?
I haven't tried doing that particular thing I figured it wouldn't be related to the GPU whatsoever
Either it post with four sticks or it doesn't
If it won't post when your gpu is plugged in, you may have a faulty gpu.
Granted it's still plugged into the PCIe 5 slot via the vertical riser cable but it's not plugged into the PSU
Or it's not seated correctly
Or a faulty motherboard. Or faulty power cables. Or a faulty PSU.
Or just tried unplugging the riser and plugging it back in.
Make sure the connections are secure. Try a different pci-e slot.
nah, fully try without, if it posts once, you can still mess with the riser
just to know if it may introduce further trouble later on
It fully post to BIOS if I have it unplugged
I've tried to receipt it - before I put this card in it was working in another machine
Also, if you have a 4090, make sure the power clips are all the way in.
It's a 3090
Oh nevermind then.
I tried reseeting the riser cable as well no change
Plug it directly into the mobo, like Ben said.
I don't think you can in this case, literally
The case won't close? Or there's physically not enough room due to drive bays, etc. ?
Is your CPU cooler too big?
No idea what a hyte y60 is.
You didn't say why it's too big.
What's in the way?
The physical edge of the case?
Yes
You must have bought a tiny case.
