for portfolio, you should state what assets you used for it and what you made yourself, I'm guessing the foliage was from LAM?
that brigde doesn't really blend well to the scene, it does look out of place (meaning the texture/material work on it)
if you are going to promote your work to others, make sure people viewing it know what they are viewing at

I really wanted to create something that was combining Blade Runner 2049 styles and Chinese cyberpunk styles from sketch to final environment art.
I get started this project back in October 21, 2017 and finished in March 14, 2019. As I work full time at 3BLACKDOT, I only worked on the project after work and on weekends.
This is the best personal project that I worked on.
I am inspired by CyberRunner that created by Josh Van Zuylen, That's why I get started work with this long term project.

TORGUE the explosey types

if you know the exact error logs, (which a proper person with a devkit should know how to grab) it shouldnt be too hard to fix.

@mighty fern You have 3 issues with the model. Mesh density on the paws is really higher than it needs to be. Second being dried and stuffed look rather than alive. Get in some fake aniso/fuzz or any kind of depth for body material. If you are lacking texel density, consider adding detail map. Third is your presentation. Spending so much time making really good looking mane to end up with a turntable, where half of the model ends up black ? Consider setting proper studio lighting for such kind of shots. Lastly, as a general unrelated advice, removing a phrase about it being optimized, would keep you more on a professional side of things. Don't dive into details in description, where it is unnecessary. But, yeah, very good model overall.
Btw a trick for the turntable thing - play it back faster when it's not looking at the interesting part, and slow it down when it's at the important bits

honestly fair enough, i basically only did this because my college tutor told me to
but in my defence, you should see half the stuff on the site going for more then $10 that are worse then this
also in my experience so far, none of that stuff has mattered when its rendered or in engine, but besides that this is actually one of my older models from when i first started. i just slapped a fresh coat of paint on it and called it a day

The simple shape doesn't matter much because of the source material being the same way
And yeah, I'm gonna spend a good chunk of time learning how to do materials better

This isn't work-in-progress so it's not the best place to get feedback, but I do think the crow would fare better by having your character more to the left of the screen, and the crow to the right, slightly upper

i can ask elliot ofc, i think its a tough one, the performance is awesome, ive tested it with thousands of instances and had 120fps, i feel it would be nice, but that the actual youtube vids kinda demonstrate that already.

As Captain Starshot, you and your space crew are tasked with exploring a procedurally-generated galaxy in search for villainous aliens and their evil overlord.
Fly off in your spaceship, fight alien spacecraft, board these crafts and battle their alien crew!

Yup, it will absolutely work for dialogues, finding certain amount of items, etc. I've actually used it with a dialogue system and it works really well. I have a quest setup where an NPC asks me to fetch him some items and bring them back

On my work I was tasked with optimizing/tweaking Level Streaming, Gargabe Collection and PhysX behaviour (basically, open world games cornerstone) to avoid hitches during the game.
I found only a bit of information about how to do that. Indeed, source code helps a lot but every time I had to dive in and it took a lot of time in the end.
As a result I've decided to put everything I've found in first iteration in one article so it will be easy for anyone to find almost all import commands related to Level Streaming, Gargabe Collection and PhysX settings (so your open world games can run much much smoother then they are by default).

@ebon hamlet yes @astral hornet I know most people say to wait, I put it up anyways as money isn't my concern I'm doing this for my senior project for college so I need to log my process and make a very detailed presentation on my journey it might be early to upload but I want to have it up to make my progress easier to track and show lol I've only sold one copy so far but that's ok I don't care about money or marketing currently if I change my mind later on I can figure out how best to do what's needed at that time

However once again, I also think shipping Early Access has a bit of power as well.

I never removed the post, right? :P But future updates are 100% work in progress, at least for their title as, again, it's far from done.

Games which are at a state like the one from spacemarine658 are rarely released/sold. A game that reached version 1.0 would def count as released.
However if I would release a game and then work on new content, I would post the content updates (if they aren't released yet) again into #work-in-progress
Kostroma V7-2 (UE4 Sci-fi Environment)
Sci-fi scene I developed and rendered within Unreal Engine. Had a lot of fun with this project concepting it out and the props and developing it out over the past few months a few days or one a week. Everything within the scene is developed by me, and the use of sequencer for animated aspects in my scene and Niagara for particle effects. @opal topaz Kids? That's a pretty complex target audience, given that you have to also convince their parents that the app is good for the kids.
I have to say that, just looking at the thumbnail, I wouldn't be too sure why my kid should be allowed to play this.
Not that it must bother you, but it's a thing everyone should think about when creating games for kids.
I think @leaden stratus listend to a talk once at GDC Europe or so, which was about games for kids.

A bit OT maybe, (probably deserves #design-chat if we go more in depth) but marketing for kids is sort of hard. Especially if you are trying to consider the whole world. What may be acceptable in the USA, isn't acceptable in some parts and vice-versa.
Not saying there aren't some baselines, but it's not a simple one-size-fits-all solution. Even if you only consider one country, every parent is different and what they allow them to consume.

Recently I released my first game ever on mobile platform Android.
Cubereeno is an arcade game where you play as a physically accelerated cube.
This is an endless run game on the track with static or with moving obstacles. Collect as many coins as possible, earn the highest score and defeat your friends in leaderboards.
For coins, you can extend the duration of the magnet, the various multipliers, and the speed decelerator.
How to play the game:
Tap and hold on the left side of the display to move left, tap and hold on the right side of the display to move right. When you touch grey blocks, game is over. When you fall off the track, game is over.

@ebon hamlet Google play consle show log, but it takes a while to show that the application has crashed. I think he'll be there in log this crash: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: dlopen failed: cannot locate symbol "bsd_signal" referenced by "/data/app/com.ParsleyDEV.Cubereeno-1/lib/arm/libUE4.so"... I get this error from the date of publication. I still don't have a solution :/

i played it a bit and didn't like the controls as a slight tap to either side would already kill you
also died a couple of times with no block in sight or sometimes the block being behind the camera (maybe getting culled)
also noticed quite some blocks flickering and or swapping between position
also had some plays where there was such a large gap between the floor pieces that the player-block just drops to it's death
did you use the ue4-integrated admob stuff? the (video-)ads loaded super fast

also the player-block rotates as it seems completely controlled by physics and that makes the game harder from then on
For add i use custom c++ plugin. I found it on internet
i'd either lock rotation or lerp rotation back to normal

the thing with difficulty is that the player has to have the feeling that it was their mistake why they failed
but with the missing floor, the unwanted rotation on the player-block and the game over when the hit block is not visible on camera, i got the feeling that it was the game

Assuming the comparison is among pure automaterial assets, and not among general environment infrastructures (like LAM, Brushify or Procedural Nature pack, etc.), I can say that
the package has been specifically designed to ease as much as possible the customization process made by the user. Some interesting features that lack in some other assets are: triplanar, which is a blessing when it comes to avoid the annoying stretching over steep areas; moreover, a deep customization of the foliage, like distribution or the max angle. Finally, the blending is not just based on slope, but also based on normals and even this feature can be adjusted by the user (see the snow part in the showcase video); this creates a much more interesting blending. A Custom Map for a Custom Game Mode in UT, map is done by 6 env art students and 1 level design student and the game mode is my thing, and I also was the producer. All in 7 weeks time. When it comes to the level art, everything except the Banners is entirely custom and made by us.
Today we released a new completely meshed level and a new game mode for which the level is designed. It combines classic FreezeTag mechanics and HardPoint capture zones into a new team-based experience for @utgame

@broken crest it's because it was just recorded using OBS , cause im new to ue4 and i dont know how to record using the engine , i tried video recording but it was so slow and the video was so big
@summer canyon might have to do with the format you used. I suggest using Mpeg-4(MP4) for container, h.264 or h.265 for container, and medium quality settings in the application you use.
I don't have experience with recording in UE4 either, so I can't say what is optimal. But yeah, the beauty of your landscape was literally halved in my opinion by that blurryness

@ebon hamlet I can't use the sequencer because the game uses a custom dedicated server. Entities would not show on sequencer camera when it gets out of the server 'streaming' box.

Agreed. It's a valid point and worth taking into considering. Our servers haven't typically been able to afford any big amount of players but now that we've upgraded it might be worth removing it for encourage more people to try the game
Welcome to the problem every indie MMO will always face : is it an MMO if you have 10 players
Well you'd say it's designed to be an MMO.
If it's designed to be an MMO - like say, including your boilerplate 40-man raid teams - is it a failure if you have 10 players online ?
MMO usually mean both high player counts, and gameplay that meshes with that. You don't really call Fortnite an MMO because well, it could have 100 online players all the time and you wouldn't see the difference, other than playing against the same people all day
The way I see it, you could design a successful indie MMO, but again, if you have like 10 players - that's barely enough for even a Counter-Strike game there, how do you design MMO activities for that ?
I see it as: You desing the game to be an MMO, means your activities and Gameplay resolve around a large playercount interacting together (so having 1 million player but only 2vs2 matches wouldn't count).
And if your game never actually gets enough players to support this and without it doesn't work out, then yeah, I would guess the project failed.
Doesn't mean the gameplay is bad, could just be missing marketing and no one knows about it.
If WoW Classic releases next Tuesday and no one plays it, then the release is indeed a failure to me.

If the game is massively played and people just leave after a week, THEN I would blame the game itself
I'm really arguing on a business level here, because I'm sure there can be such a thing as an indie MMO, but it would need to be tuned to something like 100 players online (which is a hell lot more than my game got)

So, WeRide(early alfa) is developed by me and my brother. My brother started this project 4 or 5 years back as a hobby project and has always only developed on his free time (burning passion however).
One and a half year ago I found a PhD that allowed me to combine game development and research on the game and since then we've transformed the game heavily, which is now a mixture of what you can see on the website.
Our workflow is that we always run an online server that is freely available to the small feedbacking community around it, so we get quick responses and feedback on changes that work and don't.
My brother sits on writing logic and big functionality while I do most of the level design, tweaking features and steer the course for researching news features to the game.

There are studies showing how many people that you can keep in your social circle and around 250 is typically how many people can "keep track off" where 2500 is how many faces we typically remember
I think 100-250 is really what any MMO needs. Then its more a matter of level design to make the world feel alive
I am currently writing a paper where we focus on the role of persistence, with the argument that WoW has set the industry standard for MMO design, but at the expense of player influence. Earler games were more persistent and allowed more influence but were also in smaller scale. Designers now instead run into the problem of continuously having to supply players with new content, but its WAY slower than players consumtion of it.
Thus we look at persistence to find ways of how to reuse past player activities and automatically generate new content. Both to gain time as developers but also to foster more meaningful play.
So, UE has basically enabled all of this for us, and we can use it to research new ways of how to develop (M)MORPGs . Pretty thankful for that ๐

Solo launchers can be more lightweight and have auto update/auto login. I don't see what the big deal is. You can even login with steam/facebook in solo launchers.

Common issues are usually solved by deactive firewall, run as admin or make sure to zip it "correctly"
@turbid vapor yeah I let it sit for a few hours, no network traffic just stalled. Will try allowing in firewall and running as admin, odd that it stopped at 75% though.
