For plugins, if they don't have any assets, you could start wherever and recompile them. There should even be a commands to compile plugins for multiple versions

Develop what you can develop.
If that’s a asset pack, you don’t have to upload multiple times. For an example, you can work with 4.24 and tag it for 4.25 and 4.26.
But for plug-ins you have to upload a one for each engine version.
That being said, I have couple of versions for OpenLand for each engine version. I have a one version for 4.25 and it won’t get any new feature updates 4.26 version uses some new stuff comes with 4.26 and that what I update often. I think UDS also uses the same method.
it comes down to marketing. one of the all-time best selling packs (heard trough the grapevine) mainly does so because of their really strong videos and marketing, not because its the best product.
also, we dont get any data on what sells well, so its everybody's guess.

Step 1 on foliage packs for me is to yeet all collision because foliage collision is really dependent on project specifics

it depends on the end result, in most vfx cases for example you dont want collision on the meshes.
its so the marketplace doesnt get spammed with crappy free content. only code plugins (and they still get checked) are allowed for free. if its a plugin/contains cpp i think it instantly needs to be a code plugin iirc.

We are working on some ancient roman vehicles to make an asset pack so can i ask you guys some questions? because i am stuck at what should i include in the pack
for example; there is a merchant ship and i added morph targets and configured locomotion for sail cloth wind interaction to fake cloth sim for sails but
i am not sure what kind of.animations you guys can think of since there are many different types of control systems for ships
also there are hand carts, horse chariot and ox cart but we use them as physics objects to handle their behavior, would you rather see them as vehicle bp?

we always aim for easy integrations, asset pack (not project so u can add in existing projects easier) but vehicles are hard to deal with and takes time

@sage jolt Most of the almost complete packages in several genres are supposed to be used as foundation for a new game. Usually the integration it's hard. If you do a very complete package no doubt several people it'll bought it just to sell it in Steam with very few changes.

Hello, i need some advice from experienced marketplace sellers. Basically our asset pack got declined for this reason:
- Submission not in correct format. Prior to submission, assets should be imported into Unreal Engine and submitted as an Unreal Engine Project. This should include a .uproject file, a Config folder, and a Content folder. If you would like to import these assets into Unreal Engine and resubmit them in the required format, we will be glad to review it.
The confusing part is this that in the "distribution method" section of the new product, we chose "Asset Pack", which has this line attached to it: "This method of distribution will import everything in your project except the Config folder and the .uproject file into a user's pre-existing project of their choice."
We submitted ONLY the project as in .../Content/Project

Hello guys, can I use Epic’s Zen Garden environment outside of engine?
Basically I want to export it and use 3DS Max to bake light and then grab a .glb or .glTF file to use it as a custom environment in Spatial.

Hello, I have a quick question. After submitting we were told we had to fix some overlapping lightmap UV's. This was because light map coordinate index was set to 0 instead of 1. Now these issues are fixed, but we still have a few objects that say "Object has wrapping UVs" when we try and build lighting.
Question is will this mean it will fail again when they test?
Because I am not sure how to fix these issues...
It doesn't say anything about overlapping lightmap UVs which is what the first issues were about but afaik this error still has something to do with overlapping UVs 😛
Thing is there doesnt seem to be anything obviously wrong with the UV1 channel of the assets that are flagged
you'd fail the test.
If you cant see any uv's overlapping it could be some of them are mirrored.

I have tried to resend my assets like 5 times already, can pass all other tests than "build lighting". I have built lighting on my level like 30 times already.

I want to model weapon. Do i have to animate mannequin legs ?
For just a weapon you technically don't have to animate anything (unless the weapon itself is animated). You can sell it as a prop (weapons have their own category though). If you do create animations for it, then yes, you should include the legs as part of the animation. The user can then decide to use only the upper body portion (during movement) or the full body animation when standing still. You can then sell the animations separately in the animations category.

Let's say someone purchased your asset, and they want refund, how do you refund them?
I bought a plugin from the marketplace, but I only have ue5 installed from github zip. The Epic Game Store launcher won't let me download the plugin because it doesn't know that I have ue5. Does anyone know how to get the launcher to understand I have a version of the engine from github? Or how to get around this issue. I'd like to not install a version of ue4. I just don't have the disc space.

You have to install a launcher engine version. It's an obnoxious restriction, but you can only download assets for engine versions you've got installed with the Launcher

There are marketplace assets that use Epics Kite Demo content, they aren't the focus of the project and are in a separate folder.
I don't believe they should be used, because the licensing terms on those are explicitly contradictory to that of the normal marketplace license
Well, I know of one pack that got rejected because an animation was janky. The author pointed out that it was from the Kite Demo, and it was passed.
Marketplace staff passing things isn't a reliable indicator of what's actually allowed, unfortunately :/

in any case, the problem stems from different licenses; content uploaded by Epic comes under the “UE-Only Content” provisions of the license agreement;
"For UE-Only Content, you may exercise your rights under the License only if and to the extent that the UE-Only Content is utilized in a Product that requires the Engine Code to operate or is a non-interactive linear media product (e.g., broadcast or streamed video files, cartoons, movies, or images) rendered using the Engine Code.

Other marketplace content isn't "UE-Only Content" and doesn't have that provision and can be used more freely; you could use textures, meshes, audio etc in another engine if you so wished as an example. The problem with bundling Epic's assets is you now have one content package with two different sets of licensing terms and no way for the end-user to distinguish between the two.

API scrape hasn't correctly tagged it as a recent price change, but you can see it when you hover over:
Recent changes only last for 1 week.
If you hover over the "NAME" header, you can see where the spreadsheet is in its current scan. Right now it is updating the 7000s.
The database I use to store the info is current and updates all items in about 15-20 minutes. The spreadsheet takes much longer to update though.
At some point I may just make a website to show the realtime info in the database instead of using Google Sheets.

tbh, you'd probably get more results reporting it to whatever relevant body in your local country (e.g. FTC in the US), because this has been going on for years and there's still nothing in place to prevent it

After sending a query to the Marketplace Team for a little clarification, this is the reply. Most of it is stuff we already knew but I find part 4 to be the interesting bit. This may help others in knowing what can and cannot be included.

We try to stay as consistent as possible when it comes to Epic demo content, but sellers will use this content in a wide variety of ways. It can sometimes be challenging to decide exactly where to draw the line.
Some good rules to keep in mind, only content published under the Epic Games seller account can be used as demo content in Marketplace products, as long as it meets the following:1 - It is not an integral part of the product. If the demo content was stripped from a project, the product should still function as intended.
2 - It doesn't make up the majority of the assets being offered. Eg: An First-person Shooter Blueprint submission with basic Blueprint functionality but highly detailed levels that are completely designed with Epic demo content would not be allowed.
3 - It is in a separate demo folder. This is meant to allow buyers to easily access what they purchased and exclude any Epic demo content if they like.
4 - It doesn’t bloat the project size unnecessarily. We have had sellers submit 20GB projects with nearly 18GB being demo assets. This is the main reason that we recommend not using ‘Open World Demo’ or ‘Kite Demo’. Technically these projects can be used as demo content, but to avoid file bloat, we recommend using other projects or be very sparing in what you take from these projects.
5 - It is clearly listed in the Technical Information so buyers know exactly what they are getting. If a product contains demo assets, the Technical Information should have a breakdown of how many meshes, materials, textures, etc. are actually being sold. Demo content should not be included in this but listed separately.
A lot of Epic content can only be used in Unreal Engine, so it’s very important that buyers know what is Epic demo content and what is not. Others have submitted Quxiel Megascans content, which we do not allow to be included in 3rd party products at all; however, sellers are welcome to use them in screenshots as long as they are notated correctly. The majority of the Permanently Free Collection is not distributed under the Epic Games account, but it should be noted that we also do not allow any content from this collection to be used as demo assets.

There's a couple things that might be useful depending on the game that are permanently free, like How To Compute's Inventory System, but overall there's not much for free. You might find some inexpensive 2D templates, especially with the big sale going on now, but nothing free.

Did they put it in declined? I've had that happen to me multiple times and it is a pain having to recreate the product submission, but that is what I ended up doing anyways. In the end, they actually took my product out of declined and straight into approved, so had to delete one of my new submissions, haha.

Using Mixer is fine as long as you do not use any of Megascans assets. You are not allowed to include any Quixel assets in your asset pack. Check out this reply to an email, from the Marketplace Team. #fab message

I've only processed one refund myself but yes, I told the guy to submit the request then I received an email from the marketplace team a few days later asking whether I want to allow his refund.

You can also get textures from Substance Source/Substance Painter. Once you get a subscription, you can use them for any purpose. And those textures are yours & you don't need to mention about that too when submitting or asking permission from Adobe.

Yeah, some changes can be excused. However, if no functional change can be observed and the author avoids answering questions about that... Sus, very sus.
There are 81 reviews? Read them, tho these are useless in most cases. Also you may be refunded if it does not work for you. If you know what exactly what you are looking for, you can also ask the author specific questions....
The price change is legit. I think it's even legit to change the price as needed.
Even it goes from 200 to 10 or 10 to 200.
But the issue is when they increase it just before a sale.
Epic has several ways to fix it. I don't know what they are not doing it.
- Simple fix: Lock the price change, when we submit the form to enable the discount.
- Not that difficult fix: Check price change history with some simple logic & talk to the owner if it's flagged. This can be done when we submit the form.
I guess all these can be done & tested within a couple of weeks max.
So, we don't ever have to talk this topic here.
I think Tim & the lawyers don't know about this yet. If this info goes to Apple & Google's lawyers, Epic may have to deal it with big $$$$$.

- It's just called 'House' It's clear that the sellers first language is not english, but I feel like some sort of adjective should be requested
- Chinese characters in the description text (I'd be ok with seeing english and chinese)
- Only one image - no idea if this house has an interior

I'm not sure what the review requirements are like these days, but this pained me enough to call it out here. (Maybe Josh or someone from MP team will acknowledge that this fell through the cracks (or that standards of expected quality are now lower!))

If you're working with our Unreal Unlimited licensing model, you should be OK redistributing textures and meshes from the Megascans library in it so long as it's being hosted on the Unreal Engine Marketplace or any other suitable marketplace that allows for distribution and sale of *.UASSET and *.UPROJECT files.
oh, thats new. (mainly because in theory people are not allowed to use quixel content outside of ue4 unless they pay for it, but they are allowed to use our custom stuff in other engines)

Has anyone ever had any issues adding any Epic Store assets to their project? I hit "add to project" and it simply doesn't do anything. I've tried logging out of the epic store and restarting my pc but I can't get anything to work
Contact the seller and the marketplace team. I had a recent problem with one of my assets where the download failed to start and the marketplace team had to fix something on their end to get it working.
it will ususally download the assets into your vault folder before copying to project, you could check to see if they're there and then move manually into /content/

The email I received on the 24th [linked above] clearly says it's a no no, the MP guidelines were posted on April 20th 2021 and Jonathans post from Quixel is from March.

The mail we received also says no, but due to the mixed signals I'd really like for them to sit down and concretely evaluate this with all relevant parties, and then come out with a single final answer that they all agree is the answer 😛

TL;DR: Epic's policy is that Megascans assets can't be included in Marketplace content.
Appreciate the clarification! Is there any chance of this changing at some point down the line? I understand it's a bit of a complicated issue due to its broader implications, but in the current state what this likely means is we'll just need to create an external wrapper of some sort that pulls Megascans dependencies after users log in with their own Megascans credentials, which would have the same end result but would be a massive engineering burden on our end.
The different between the two is, of course, that the latter solution would still hold up if/when Quixel license terms change, as we're going through the user accounts to verify their license
That's not something I can discuss, even if I wanted to, as the details for that sort of decision are made by the Marketplace team and/or another team entirely

nope. as a buyer you can contact the marketplace team to ask them to nudge the seller. in THEORY they should set a pack/seller to disabled until they reply to all the stuffs.

Keep in mind that the tools and templates offered in that bundle will not work in Unreal Engine. However, all the art assets will work, such as the environment packs, characters, 2D UI, sounds and music.

You can use a .gitignore rule not to upload any marketplace content into GitHub.
Then add a description in the README asking to add related marketplace assets before running the project.
Split MP content into submodules, and make those repositories private. If people can somehow provide proof of ownership of MP product, you can add them to the private repos.

There is a single license on the Marketplace, and it does not permit resale of source assets. You can read the full license in the Unreal Engine EULA
There is no such thing in the UE marketplace. But, you can talk to the developer & discuss more on this. The developer can give you a separate license allowing you to do that.
Not talking about buying assets from the UE Marketplace and reselling on the UE Marketplace. But buying models from a separate market like sketchfab, or CGTrader and using them in an asset pack for sale on UE Marketplace

it means the physics primitives are overlapping, which can cause issues

Hey, I downloaded a project from the marketplace recently and I wanted to copy the map but I can't open the project, it always crashes (not the project's problem). It's prolly is my PC's problem, it's not that powerful. Is there a way to copy the map without opening in the project?

you can try copy pasting the asset files across, but it is unlikely to work out well
and if you can't open it, there's probably a decent chance you can't open that stuff in the other project either

I do not want to use anything that is not free but also i'm against piracy of any kind, it's been hard to find a legal site for such content.

Ah, I stand corrected, it's not exactly the same. If something is on the marketplace and it's paid there, any free upload is almost 99.999% certainly piracy
The reality is that good assets usually aren't free, so if you can't pay you'll generally have to make do with mostly mediocre assets, or learn to produce such assets yourself

why does marketplace not have a 'by best rated'?
Dem rates are misleading frequently. However, many things are missing in general from the MP interface, so this is just one more.
I got so many sales and almost next to zero ratings or complaints. Imagine how unfair that would be to sellers like me, who have sales and next to zero ratings. Sometimes buyers will leave a comment but no rating for some reason. Not to mention assets that were given for free that have a lot of ratings. It's an unbalanced thing. The main thing Epic Games should provide is metrics. We have no clue how or why we sell, to whom, from where, etc.

Maybe this channel is better: Okay guys, who is up for a mystery? I've got one that I'd be grateful if anyone could solve. A number of years ago I bought an asset on the marketplace called "Stylized Sky". it's like a low poly style of sky. Anyway, I used it in a project, many versions ago. Yet, after doing that, in every engine and every project since, I get errors about it. A few days ago I downloaded 4.27. A brand new engine. I created a brand new project and opened it, and what do I see in my log as I open the project? LogLinker: Warning: Failed to load '/Game/StylizedSky/Documentation_BP': Can't find file. LogLinker: Warning: Failed to load '/Game/StylizedSky/Documentation_BP': Can't find file. LogUObjectGlobals: Warning: Failed to find object 'Class /Game/StylizedSky/Documentation_BP.Documentation_BP_C' I haven't touched this asset in several engine versions (like maybe 4.22 was the last one) and in at least 2+ years. These files don't exist and never existed in this project, because the asset was never added to the project. How in gods name is this happening? The creator of the asset doesn't have the faintest clue as to what is going on here.
I should also mention that the Stylized sky is not a plugin or anything like that. I only have 4 plugins, Dialogue, Substance, Dragon.ik and Targetsystem component. I have no idea where a new project would find out about this stylized sky and why it would be looking for the documentation to it.

I've been looking on the marketplace for quite awhile, under the "user interface" tag of 2D assets, but mostly I just find are buttons/icons - the menus I have found are usually some modular pack (which I don't need) or some theme that doesn't match my target aesthetic - I'm not sure if there is a turbosquid/cgtrader equivalent for User Interfaces but if there is, please let me know

One think comes to mind is the file naming structure. They are very strict for assets. That’s good. Also the licensing info for each files for code.
There’s a check list of items. May be you can find some items from there.

if you dont know ue4 you are going to have a bad time getting it on the marketplace.

They can choose to update it after 24 hours of individual purchases
And they can choose to cancel 10 minutes of purchases before the update time , as they update around 12:10 for me not 12:00

Personally, I'd just take out a loan and pay it off with asset sales. Build up credit score and keep ownership of the assets for future profits.
True, but just keeping ownership is well worth it. Even if it takes a year to pay off the loan with asset sales, after that year you are back to making profit again. Selling ownership means you never get to make profit from them ever again.
"Quite profitable" makes me think a year to pay off a loan of $5k is doable, but then again it is quite vague and "profitable" differs from person to person.

Hey all, I work as a contractor and just had a thought, would I be allowed to use marketplace assets on projects that I'm contracted for? Say I'm contracted to multiple games that require a planet in the background, would I be allowed to purchase a license for a planet generation system and use that in multiple projects? Or would I require a license per project I provide services to?

No. You cannot do this - the project must purchase the assets in question.
You can share Marketplace products with your team but only for the limited purpose of the project that you are jointly developing. Content pooling or sharing products between developers outside of your organization is prohibited. Team members also cannot use products in an unlimited fashion for their own projects.

this says nothing about a contractor owning an asset
just that you can hand an asset to a contractor to use it on ur behalf
It's absolutely crystal clear- You may share the content with another licensee who is your employee or contractor with the additional limitations above. Any other Distribution or sublicensing is not permitted
a contractor who owns content cannot share that content with the project he is working on
which makes complete sense - "hire me for $1000 and I'll install $3000 worth of content packs into your project"
you should note that content pooling of any kind is entirely forbidden

hello all, I had a quick q for Marketplace. I wanted to try create some animal assets (with anims) just as a test to see how much demand they have. I was just wondering, what do devs typically look for in a pack? I.e. the model, textures, LODs setup? Is it reasonable to have like 8-10 anims?

It happens when there is a reason for that, e.g. the author needs to fix something on his end.
It’s pretty hard to track and we literally get no good metrics. One way is to track from the docs sites or tutorials. But not a proper solution.
BTW: That’s a large number. It’s possible to hit that since your plugin is pretty great. Anyway, just email MP team and double check that number.

under engine versions in the launcher, each engine version has an "installed plugins" text, if there is an "!" it means there are plugins that can be updated. click on it to get a list of the plugins and an update button.

(make sure you tried it on your computer on that new version)

@spiral sail I use the one hristee pointed to as well. I absolutely love it. It has dialogue events that allow you to call any functionality you can think of. I have implemented the turn to speaker and control cameras, the way you described, using it.
Hmm... Now I think the problem might not be what dialogue system I use.
What if I want the NPC speak and show a totally different dialogue options after the player finished tutorila or something. Do I just use boolean branch to check if player finish tutorial or not then setup a dialogue tree?

I mean the preview I saw only shows when they first time talk to the NPC. What if I want a NPC says "Hi, who are you" when we first met. And the second time we meet he says "Oh, nice to see you again raynor".
How to handle the story progression and dialogue, do I use boolean or there is a better way?

I saw some of my assets used in a clip and I couldn't really tell they were mine; so with proper integration mp assets are golden
I actually figured out how to get it to accept this. It's really unintuitive. When you are on the "add new transfer method" page, where you pick what you would like to pay into (e.g. paypal, wire transfer), it also has fields for "country/region" and "currency"
You have to set that country/region to the country where the bank is located, and only then go into the "add wire transfer" page
So the option for the location of your bank is actually there, it's just that it's in a really confusing place and you have to set it before you go into the page where you give the bank details

Hi all, i'm designing a product for the marketplace, but i have a question about product collections. If i have a range of products, but i wanted to sell a "Product - Ultra Pro Complete" sort of bundle, is there a way to link that product on the marketplace to the other packages. Or do i have to bundle and package that as a separate product entirely, that just happens to have the same content?
The reason i'm asking is my main product is a code plugin, but i want to distribute additional optional content packs, and the content packs make much more sense to be an "add to project" style content pack, rather than an engine plugin
All the collections i've seen so far appear to just be separate products that have all the other content added into it by the publisher
you can publish content that relies on a plugin, but you'll need to contact the mp-team to ask for the details prolly.
I believe when that's been the case, the plugin has been free, and the content has been sold separately.

When in doubt, go for open source alternative or in house developed plugin.
The former's most hassle will be embedding the copyright notice on the product, and that's about it. Though note that with generosity (often) comes with a huge catch, quality wise.

The problem with this EULA craphole is really the lack of facilitating feature for team/bulk licensing, and the free for the month promos is just making the craphole even worse. Other productivity software that I used on behalf of companies let the higher up pay for the bulk license, so that the employees don't pay the software with their own personal money.
The Unreal Marketplace has no such thing for paid code plugins, and thus under assumptions that team members/employees would use their own personal pocket money, because it's tied to their personal Epic accounts, not on behalf of the higher ups. Sure, as the higherup, you can hand the money to the employees so that they bought it themselves, but this is unreliable as heck, and can lead to possibility of financial corruptions. Might as well let the higherup pay for the sum value outright, get it into use with minimal time loss, but nope.

Do marketplace projects qualify for devgrants? It is a huge project and before publishing the asset I plan to publish a game built with it. Then publish the asset containing everything from the game.
I am gonna be forced to buy Houdini and a couple of other things, plus pay some artists to help. :(

That sounds very hard to accomplish, so you'll def need to show it off. Better to have a half or almost finished product to show when you apply
