The thing is, within a few weeks of your asset being published it is instantly listed on a piracy website. You cant do much about that except provide exceptional customer service.
Good customer service is key, people find it invaluable and it prevents a fair share amount of people pirating your asset and just buying it for the regular updates and good customer service
But the thing is, as your asset expands, so does the community. That is something I struggle with. I try my best to provide the best customer support but of course things happen and people get unhappy, and they can damage your business out of spite
Might as well price the asset at $1000 first, wait for the dude to buy and pirate, then drop the price to $50 after just to piss him off.

It depends on the type of asset you release, but the launch can be a very big factor on how your asset performs in the future

Have you considered finding a way to generate a unique code for each person to join your Discord server? Generate a unique joining code whenever someone buys your asset, that way the lousy fuckers have to pay you each time they want to join.

Well, there is something like that already. The users who join have access to a generic help and general channels if they have any unrelated UE questions, but the members who want to access documentation and help channels have to directly message their order ID which can be verified and is unique per sale. Verifying that grants them access. However giving unverified members access to general channels and generic help channels for non kit related questions allows them to communicate with asset members which is what the user is doing and distributing it
I dont want to lock it so the community is only for strictly paying members, since that is a bit shitty and isnt what my community stands for really, I dont mind helping other members that arent members of the asset

I was trying to determine how likely it would happen to the rest of us. If he is doing this to everyone and the guy wasn't provoked in any way then everyone else here should start preparing. Wayed rightly banned him. I do not condone the pirater in any way. But since this is done out of a grudge then this is a problem we should really just be helping Wayed and don't need to start preparing for war against the entire marketplace. Let's be honest, if this was done to everyone we would have to stop large support channels and possibly force unreal engine to encrypt our packs to only work for certain users/computers per key

Okay, simpler solution:
- Start 5.x Download
- Click on "Install to Engine" on the Plugin
- Select 5.x (available even if the Download just started)
3.1. Plugin Download will be queued and is waiting on 5.x Download to finish - Open "Downloads" and cancel the 5.x Download
4.1. Plugin will still download and can be found in a lonely 5.x/Engine/Plugins/Marketplace/ folder where you initially wanted to install 5.x to.

Yes, that's new with Fab. I'm guessing they don't want description/pictures to get too out of hand, as there were some issues with that on the MP.

I release a plugin that points to github URL releases, with per-engine-version branches whose only purpose is to have a .uplugin with the right editor version. (underlying code uses precompiler directives) -- however, since it's not possible to tag a commit in a branch, the URL i've been pushing to FAB for updates don't change: they point to the head of the branch.
Turns out, if the URL of your submission doesn't change, it doesn't trigger the update process on their end, despite me receiving emails that "new release has been approved".
I had a user go through support and tediously ask for details in order to get this information:

So that means updates silently fails, publisher is not notified (worse, you get notified it's a success so that's the info you communicate to users), users never get updates.

Yes. You can refer to assets from the Engine folder, but it does not contain the Third Person assets

Yes, this is pretty safe. They really do not remove things from there (eg. it's cluttered with junk)

ok - so has anyone managed to renew their hyperwallet without photo id? My drivers license has expired - I cannot get out of the property to get a new license (that's if my eyesight allows it anyway) - I don't have a passport anymore.

Hi ! I'm trying to release a simple camera movement system on fab but i received this feedback. The project i'm submitting is a content-only plugin. There is no source folder nor platform allow list in this case right ? Because I tried adding platforms to the .uplugin file, but then the plugin wouldn't be recognized.

Payment processors have a lot of regulations put on them by world governments including reporting taxes if payments go over a certain amount and fraud protection laws, you should be able to use a secondary ID like a passport if you donāt have a valid drivers license.
Plugin categories need c++ code to be sold and distributed on fab, you want to use the asset pack option if you are not using c++

I have already set up with hyperwallet when Epic changed over to it - at that point it was valid - nothings changed except the license has expired.
How do you even own a home if you donāt have ID? They are required for pretty much everything in the Us from bank accounts, to renting/home ownership, to insurance, to doctors visits, to alcohol purchases, etc.
I have plenty of ID - just not photo ID - the only photo ID in NZ is the drivers license and a passport.

technically yes, quixel is the brand and megascan is the product
and even if you "collected them all" with the link, it doesnt seem to update until you try and use it/ add it to your library so quite a few of the older free products will show a price till you attempt to use them with your account then they become free and part of your library

You can filter for Unreal Engine. Also I am not sure why this should be epics fault. The seller can decide himself how he prices his assets and which asset depends on which asset. That also was the case on the unreal engine marketplace.
So the solution is: if you are not happy with that, avoid the seller and purchase an alternative
allowing it, is there fault. they allowed the scummy practice of essentially a bait and switch. or more of a sewer lure. i consider that practice suicide. I filtered by Unity intentionally
I think itās pretty cool to be able to buy additional functionality for a main product. Though they could improve the design and make it like a dlc on the main page instead. Also there is no āBlueprintā category
It is a Unity asset. why does it have Blueprints? Unity does not use BPs
Blueprints in English also have a different meaning. They are not only the visual scripting system but also these plans for houses and other stuff. It is often use to refer to a template of something which the buyer needs to built upon

this guy has been selling on the Unity asset store for years. he sells modular buildings (wall/fence sections, columns, posts, etc). he also sells environments (maps) that he created using the meshes from the modular pack. he called these additional packs "blueprints". technically, i believe they are "prefabs"- Unity's version of a BP Actor. his products probably predate UE4. it says clearly in the description under IMPORTANT what products are required. also, it is free... maybe ask for your money back if you aren't satisfiedš¤·āāļø
He likely is referring to prefabs which are reassembled assets in unity, I could see them being called blueprints by some especially a UE dev working in unity

I haven't had a single sale this year - that's never happened before. I've still got the same type of traffic on my website and YT and discord is still active, but no recorded sales.

You can still edit and sell when it's outdated. In the Publisher Settings, Tax Detail section there's a status field:

It's well-known that people tend to buy less both right before and after a sale. If I were to extrapolate the current rate of January's sales, they would be 60% of what December's were. However, this is a flawed way of comparing months. When I compare it to January of last year, sales are actually up.

I agree that 1/3 of a month doesn't give good analytics, but I'm wondering if there is also something else at play:
- I usually get follow-up purchases for 1-2 weeks after a sale, this time none.

I wrote a script for blender 4.2 that can bulk import assets downloaded from fab. You just select the parent folder and hit import and it grabs any mesh within the sub folders, creates materials and applies the correct textures automatically.
Also has options to remove empty parents and reset Uvmap names
I have only tested it with Quixel meshes so far. But it allows me to bulk import loads of objects and then generate texture atlases.
Then batch export to unreal.

I searched for my product and couldn't find it even having the exact name as the search and i looked through about 100 other products. Weirdly enough my other product which doesn't have a similar name or purpose came up before the product I searched for!

Just wondering... is it really too much to add a straightforward "Plugins" exclusive filter and a filter to exclude all the already installed plugins, in the launcher, so to make easier to identify and install those not yet installed? I donāt think its a matter of it being too hard to do, just that they have a huge load of work to get done and they have to prioritize. Itās not as simple as throwing more devs at the problem until it gets resolved, thereās bottlenecks like any other production

For me, it was around 2.5 months for the first response from their legal team seeking additional info and after that it was done in 4 days (we had 10+ back and forths). So basically, I believe the staff is not that big in that department so it will reach a human soon.

I have a couple of people reviewing my product but when I search it in Fab it says it has no reviews when actually it has some back in the marketplace. How this actually works? Iām also unable to locate my seller stats to see if the product is being purchased on Fab or not

Even with the Unreal filter, which at least removes SketchFab crap, yours don't appear until quite a lot of scrolling. And not a single actual lava lamp can be found before yours.
Search is truly broken, not sure if it's just a temporary setback (as discussed above) or just Fab being Fab.

I was happy getting 100/200⬠every 1/2 months but since the porting I saw 0
I think some people reported reviews being missing even though they crossed the threshold, there may have even been a thread about that on the forums, I don't remember.
For the search part, it was truly awful at launch, but got better after a few weeks. Currently, it seems it's back to trash again.

anyone remotely in the neighborhood of the sketchfab flood is most likely to be hurt. as you observe, you have a sophisticated high-end asset that the search can't distinguish from generic model slop

They really need to prioritize high quality assets based on purchase history and Reviews
sales, ratings, reviews, refunds, even clicks. any signal they can get their hands on is badly needed

Exactly and here we are at that problem again. The fab team does 0 public communication. No changelogs anymore, no current state of things, nothing except their roadmap and even that doesnāt chabge. Support gives generic answers. The only way to get information is to get lucky and Abby from the sketchfab team answer you on the fourms. But even then only I know the infos and most people still donāt know what the heck is going on

The biggest issue with FAB is the lack of social interaction.
I run a studio myself and have ended up gambling with my business.
I can't tell if the packs are good or not since customers can't really reach me easily, not many people think about support emails or anything so I'm not getting any feedback from my packs.
I just recently found out about a couple of broken collisions and missing assets from 2 of my packs, no idea if it cost me a review or not so I just have my fingers crossed that it works fine on my customers end.

Do you have a Discord server? Quite a few creators on Fab have one, and it's a great way to have interaction and create a community around your products. On my side, every time I purchase a product on Fab, I join the creator's Discord to get updates, information on new products, provide feedback and bug reports, maybe exchange with other users, etc.
I should consider that, but moderation is a big part of it, I have soo much going on and I wouldn't be able to take care of bad actors if they happen to show up.
But at this point I might just be forced to do it, a potential workaround would be to really limit and restrict community interaction to just support tickets and an announcement channel.
I think moderation isn't that big of a problem honestly. I'm a member of a lot of Fab creator's Discord server, and I pretty much never see anything that needs moderating, even on large servers. Discord has some built-in features to limit that issue, and I'd say it's working well. Maybe creators who manage their own Discord can weigh in on that.

I'm only a very small-scale creator, just have the one product, was selling maybe 10-12 a month before, now it's down to maybe 2 a month.

I'm in contact with some and they have said their sales have dropped by 80%
FAB is a mess, running a business on this platform is impossible for smaller studios now due to the influx of low quality AI generated garbage that gets pumped onto the platform, it ruins the algorithm and their search function is terrible.
You need to use very specific tags to get to the high quality packs.
If you intend on running a business on the platform, I'd suggest gather customers from social platforms like YouTube or TikTok or Facebook, and then leave links on your socials if people get interested.
You can forget about attracting people on FAB itself.
Worse part is, FAB has a monopoly over asset stores since it directly integrates with game engines.
If there was an equal counter part like a UEM 2.0, I'd move all my products onto that alternative and forget about FAB.

We are around 800 on my Discord, overtime I got some moderators but honestly I think I had to ban 1 person in a year (he wanted to resell my work), otherwise its really smooth in general.
The worst are the spammers, you just ban them when you see them and they are obvious (example "Amazing 3d artist looking to sell art")
But like you I had a problem that an error was added in my tool after I published it and it took me weeks to learn that, its someone on my Discord that informed me of the problem
The monopoly part is scary. My sales dropped by a lot too (a good 60% drop in January so far). If there was a real good competitor market I would be in there.

Seems like they are updating fab once a month (start of each month).
If you take a look at their roadmap you'll see In Progress tags on some tabs, and I've noticed that they've added even more to In Progress in the 1a. Search tab, this past week.

I think having a Discord is amazing for Fab sellers.

-> I think I banned like 1 bad actor in 4 years and a few bots. So nearly 0 moderation is needed
-> People communicate with you what they think about a new update or if they have issues
-> They give you new ideas for new products
-> You instantly have traffic on new product releases because your community checks them out
-> And it is not only good for the seller but also for the customers of course. They love reading the changelogs of products and they just love chatting through Discord about anything really. Because lets be real. Everyone hates writing emails.

The proximity with the user is amazing, I would add that the Discord also become a treasure of information with all the question/answer asked there.
I thought about doing that but most Chinese customers don't use Discord and write me via email. So I try to answer the most common questions/issues in my documentations

I know this has been said so many times but what the heck Epic was thinking pushing Fab integration when the whole store is just complete mess. All the Quixel assets are here and there, no way to search Imperfections or similar categories. Marketplace is full of copyrighted assets or assets that are made like in 10 minutes (or with AI) and pushed there. I saw images in roadmap and there is little hope, but jeez, I just dont understand why they did what they did
Well as a customer, fab is a step up from the slow, and clunky Unreal Marketplace. Plus, getting both Unreal Unity assets in one place is really appealing for me.
But yeah they could have waited a few more months š not sure who forced them to launch

Mixing all the platforms into one store sounds good on paper but it has really impacted us creators in a negative way where now a large portion of creators can no longer fund their business and had to close shop which causes a decrease of quality products.
Not to mention the integration with Sketchfab has flooded FAB with copyrighted material, stolen assets, bloatware, and AI-generated "art."
It's not looking good for anyone, and in the end legitimate developers are finding their work overshadowed by these low-effort or stolen assets, further diminishing their sales and discouraging participation.

I have a discord of just about 250 people and I think it's great, I haven't needed to do any moderation. I get unwanted dms, but that doesn't affect the server. Most people that are there just have questions about a product and stay there. But it's nice because it's like building an email list of people that care about your products and it feels less intrusive. They signed up to see it, they can leave anytime, they can mute it anytime. Whereas with emails I don't know how they got my email half the time
Yeah I just hope it gets better and then I will release an asset each week. If I would release it now it would drown. Already tested it but delisted again due to 0 sales.
I'd take both over just a discord account/server any day of the week. Nobody can delete/ban/nuke my email list while I have it backed up. Someone today could login to your discord and turn it into something obscene in moments.
Where as I can buy a gmail workspace account and email 100-200 of my customers a day to let them know of updates, ask questions, or announce new products. Customers can mute/block/delete/report my email as spam if they so wish. Both discord and email have their uses. Don't discount old tech because its "old".

Just add 2FA, only give yourself important permissions and so on. Discord has an anti raid/nuke feature too. So if something happens and you report that you can get everything restored.

Yeah ideally you would want to use less materials and maybe even atlases your textures when its possible. Look at the textures too, I had a client that hire me to build an open world, they took all their trees from the asset stores and they had 7 materials each with 2 textures going from 2k to 8k, so you may want to check that first or contact the dev just to be sure
But otherwise when its come to optimization the right answer is always "profile, profile and profile" š

This may be hard unless you buy multiple assets from the same artist. Materials are like code, they are made form scratch so artist would probably not like to see another one using their work

I hate the launcher so much. It randomly decided to change my Vault cache location a few weeks ago, obviously without telling me, meaning I didn't get any update notification since then, because it didn't use my actual cache to check for them.
Now I get a whole lot of products to update, except the launcher apparently can't install product that have a compatibility to a newer engine than what you already have in your cache. Meaning that to get the last update on a product, you first have to clear your cache, then add the product. This is so broken.

There are some people who don't mark their creations as AI, but you can tell pretty easily. Like, if you see a "1000+ ability icon pack" that is supposedly hand drawn, and it's being sold for only $2, then it's most likely AI generated.

Also..Sometimes the license drawer isn't available.. cause claimed.. but a download button or "Add to library" is there.. meaning you own the right to use that asset.

If you only provide free plugins, I'd say no (that's my situation, and that's what I chose). The trader definition implies commercial activity, which I don't think applies in that case? I'm definitely not a lawyer though.

Nearly every browser blocks some specific cookies/tracking stuff. I dont think it will change your situation but you could try to disable really any blocker
But dont go onto any website if you do that. These "basic" blockers are there for a reason to protect your data and personal information

The roadmap is expected to be completed in June according to them, so may or June is likely when we will get the individual sales. My guess is they are gonna build a self service sales tool so we can set discounts automatically through the portal instead of emailing them which is likely why they delayed self sales

Must be a newer rule because my first product that I published 2 years ago used the geometry script plugin while it was still experimental. It's in beta now so I shouldn't have any problem. But my pack was entirely dependent on that plugin working. It may have been an exception if the marketplace knew it was going to be in beta soon, that I don't know, but I never ran into trouble with it
I had a smaller update go through no problem last week. It honestly seems to be super random what is called out in the reviews.

Make sure to manually type in codes. If you scan codes using snippet tool for example it might add invisible characters and stuff

Hello everyone - has anyone else had issues where plugins and such that you own in the marketplace are not updating at all on the Epic Games Launcher?
I have a plugin that updated 10 days ago (according to Fab) - which also made it compatible for UE 5.5. But when I go to the launcher, it only says it is compatible for 5.4 and below. This plugin is installed directly to the engine, so there isn't any option of "add to project" that I could use either.
Any thoughts on how I can resolve this issue? I haven't been able to find anything on how to actually get this working properly.

Smart assets are blueprints, in other engines they have different names. If your environment pack has stuff like procedural foliage spawners or other blueprints then it needs to be in that category most likely.
So an example would be a handgun blueprint, that would be a smart asset

I was one of the people who got scammed by Roberts Space Industries (StarCitizen), as an early backer i was entitled full refund if they didn't release the game within a year. they didn't give me a refund to this day and I didn't open the game since they changed their eula and to this day I didn't get full refund.

I'm a new developer learning to use UE5. Most of the tutorials or YT videos I followed use Quixel Bridge but I see that this is now being deprecated. Fab doesn't seem as easy to use and the "free" assets on there seem to be pretty limited - am I potentially doing something incorrectly when I search on there or am I missing something else here?

You basically need to make sure itās easy to use, make written documentation hosted online somewhere, setup the UPlugin descriptors, make a store page with a thumbnail, screenshots, description, and submit the files to fab. You also will likely need to keep it up to date with the latest engine version if you want good reviews
If there is no gain for you then putting it on fab probably isnāt worth it, maybe just upload it to GitHub and give it a searchable name if thatās the case
I was thinking something like that, the overhead probably is quite substantial and probably it will not get any traction unless it's something promoted and something "huge".
I mean if itās free you will get thousands of downloads but fab users expect support for even free products

If your product solves a problem people commonly have and itās not a overly saturated market then it will likely make money
You are not obligated to provide support for a product though, you just need to have written documentation available. You are more likely to get low reviews but itās not required

I think it might be a database issue on their side. A few sellers including myself have gotten this message just a few days before it gets enacted. I received a support email back stating that their development team is investigating the issue, though, I don't know whether or not this will still hinder or impact sellers after the 1st of Feb if it isn't resolved by then

Hey y'all I wanted to ask what is the best way to upload my assetts to Fab: I ussualy model on blender, texture on Substance and use UE for my renders. To upload the assetts to fab should I export from blender with the texture, or mesh and texture separated? or is there a better way to approach this?
Fab supports selling as a zip with just the model and texture but most people would sell it as a asset package for unreal and unity

In my opinion, I feel that the bottom ones are more legible than the gold text. The border around does make it "pop" a little more, though the bottom right looks a little cleaner. Doesn't feel as cluttered. Looks good though regardless :)

The Axe overhanging two glyphs maybe is a cool effect, but distracts - and since those glyphs are vowels, it gets even harder (not impossible) to read..
Some more white space around the outside of the image sort of like this might also help with the clutter a little. I just generative filled this in as an example, but I think it feels a little neater. again, just my opinion š
I am also inclined to not include the border, but since my assets will likely appear multiple times in the same search, I feel like I need to make it obvious that they are from the same creator at a glance. The border would be the easiest way to do that (It also helps with catching the eye), along with the way the text is presented. Maybe I can achieve that by adding the logo instead. I will need to think more about it. Maybe I will try making thumbnails for some of my the other assets to see how it fares. I do not really like zooming out too much, but yeah, it was probably a bit too big. Thanks!

I'm having the same folder naming problem. We submit a plugin with a particular folder name but when our users install the plugin it is placed in a folder with another name. Did you find a way to control the folder name?

I really wonder if it has anything to do with the EU rules that they are now abiding by. A product canāt be on sale more than once in a 30 day period (theres more to it than that but that is the gist of it). So with seller initiated discounts it becomes a whole other can of worms to manage if there is no system in place to keep track of those things. Until then, easier to simply only allow the actual fab sales and easier to keep track of that instead. For what its worth thereās a lot more pressing concerns/things to fix/features to add before this becomes a priority. You unfortunately canāt simply throw more humans at a problem and have it be resolved faster.

Hopefully the wishlists arrive before the February sale starts. Itās in progress on the roadmap now and they said marketplace wishlists will automatically transfer over so that could help with sales
What he's saying is that he modelled this character without triangles, but Unreal will automatically change his model to be made of triangles only, so that probably doesn't even matter. Quad topology of 3D models only really matters during the modelling phase.
Regarding ads, why do you think unreal doesnt support full screen interstitial ads which force us to download some plugin to do so

I was expecting worse, but sales increased in the latter half of January. I ended up making 85% of what I did in December. I personally don't have much hope for February, as they have decided on our behalf that we can only have three items on sale š¤·āāļø Now, Epic dictates not only when they go on sale but also how many can be on sale.
I made 30% of what I made in December and 20% of what I made in November. The fact they changed search, broke it, and wonāt revert it telling us to just wait for them to refine it further is making me mad

Why are you using Linux if the applications you use daily donāt support it? Just run windows and install Linux in a VM for fun use when you are bored. Linux is really only good for servers and devices that have their own ecosystem like android

Does anyone know if fab allows multiple versions of a product in a submission? For example, I would have a folder named <my product> and in it would be the folders <version 2.0> and <version 1.0>. If they do allow that, would updating the pack with folders <version 2.1> and <version 1.0> delete the version 2.0 folder? Because I know updates can overwrite data and add things but I didn't know if it can also delete them as well
You can have whatever you want in the folders as long as it all meets other requirements. For content only assets, updates won't remove files from a project that already has the content, and that is a good thing. You should also make sure updates you post won't break existing projects.

These audio composers really need to update their categories. So much ambient sounds are in the sfx category. Categories like "Forest" in Ambient sounds are completely empty even though there are a bunch of ambient sounds for forests available...

Sales are always on the low end at the start of a new year, between black friday and the holidays, combined with the current state of the economy, people arenāt spending as much. Sales also fluctuate year over year, week over week, day over day. There are days where Iāll get a low amount of sales and think Ā«yup not surprisedĀ» and other days where I am like «⦠huh why did it sell that much yesterday?Ā» and I go around trying to find a connection, either a tutorial popped off and got more clicks than usual, etc. I never really find a connection but this is why I am pushing the fab team to provide us with tools for analytics

It's a complex topic but exchange algorithms like diffie-hellman are designed to allow establishing an encrypted communications method without exposing the private keys. To decrypt the data each participant would of course have to store their own private key somewhere, I'm not sure how else would you expect it to function.

It depends on what you are trying to protect. Encryption generally helps stop a thid party from snooping on information exchanged between two people.

Nah because the client is the one who's going to encrypt the information being sent, so they can do whatever they want with it
You would have to validate the data on the receiving end to ensure they aren't sending stuff they shouldn't be sending

Yeah that's the problem faced with anticheat stuff in a lot of online games. Not much you can do other than define acceptable values for stuff I think. There are some stuff which tries to analyze the data for values that look out of place etc. but those are pretty complex to add I think
Hi guys, I recently made the mistake to update my quixel bridge extension and with the new version I cant easily import the megascans, since it always redirects me to fab. Now I know that everything is over fab now but its kinda hard to find the quixel stuff there and you have to download each asset individually. For my case that would be 166 assets from the canyon collection. Is there an easy way to import multiple assets into your project with the fab plugin or a way to revert my quixel bridge plugin to the old version otherwise?

So you don't have to have 100+ tabs open just to remember what you wanted to buy.
