Exactly, we're on the same page here.
I work alone yes, no intentions of expanding. I'm a small business, hiring would mean increasing overhead operating costs and not necessarily scaling production linearly.
I will hire the occasional person for small jobs here and there but it is always contract-based, one-time thing kinda deals.
I think most of the times the standard on refunds on digital items is fine, but i think ppl have issues with it mostly when the asset turned to be bad, defective, involving false advertising, not doing or containing what was specified and the worst case scenario, when its doing/contains things it should more or less, but in the worst possible way that it is almost unusable, the last one is very problematic, its very hard to check an asset before buying for things like that and i personally know an asset that looks great on paper, but its terrible when u have it and u know how it works...
So, in situations like that i think the standard terms on refunds on digital items is not enough for many buyers and they feel not supported and even scammed, in such cases there is just more to be desired from fab support, aka epic, to help resolve in a fair way.

Is that so frequently an issue with Unreal Engine assets on fab? Perhaps if they buy an asset pack that is for a generic other DCC from sketchfab or something. But usually the stuff for unreal has to go through at least some kind of vetting. And then there would be reviews. The removal of text reviews is a bummer at the moment but I think they are bringing those back. It it was flat out defective it wouldnt have been approved. Bad is relative of course, false advertising would likely be picked up by reviews too.
It is certainly not perfect, lots of bad stuff out there but I don't think the problem is quite that as pronounced? I could be wrong though, I don't purchase things THAT often, and when I do it is usually heavily documented, lots of video tutorials, showcases, usually I know what I am buying.
I completely feel for people who have felt misled but it is definitely a slippery slope and a near impossible thing to really solve. Only thing you can really do as a buyer is do your due diligence, read reviews, on fab or online, figure out it anyone else has bought it. If it's that good an asset, someone else would have raved about it. Or vice versa.
I don't think there really is a perfect solution in regards to refunds. Only better tools to help buyers make more informed decisions. Such as the return of text reviews and questions like the original marketplace had.
I have $3k worth of products in my cart waiting for black friday. I expect to save 45-65% of that 😅

This. I once even had a tool I submitted be rejected because it was «too simple», this was EasyFog which is still my most popular product to date.
yeah,I once send them 7 post-apocalyptic cars that I had modeled and textured, they rejected it and said it does not include enough assets since the cars were all the same, but the textures were different. They ended up in my Post Apocalyptic Street Project after many Edits.
The reason why it’s never really going to work in regards to having support for people wanting refunds is because of the absurd amount of people who did absolutely no research whatsoever. Bought the thing on a whim and expected otherwise, when I provided everything they needed to know. Video tutorial, documentation, screenshots. And yet I would still get complains that it wasn’t what they asked for in a 1-star review.
finally, they said the cars look like a Tesla Model and asked me to change their shape

Can you Imagine I modeled a Car, created 7 post-apocalyptic texture sets for it,got rejected, and then removed the back door and add more details to it, textured it again (Create 7 new texture sets for it) to get approved. I think I can call myself a car designer too.😄
Well im not stating that it is a major issue, i do think it is very minor issue, only for some specific cases, just wanted to point out that it sadly happens and those are probably most of the cases when ppl feel scammed.
I would say that mostly its not an issue with pure assets, models, textures, etc, but i did read about issues with vertexes, bad pivots, broken uv mapping etc.
That kind of issues is mostly when we are talking about code plugins, that provide some solutions to game mechanics and things like that, they can ofc contain also assets, but the main thing u are buying is solution to a specific problem
When it turns out that its not what was advertised, works bad or have other serious issues, and it was not possible to know this things or check before buying, there is an issue
Like bad docs, closed behind discord, i have even read about ppl being banned from the sellers discord for describing issues or that it worked bad, discord that was the only source of docs for that asset ofc, then u start to ask, why epic is allowing that and there is no support from then, there are cases when the refund terms are just not enough
And the system was not perfect, there were sellers using the review system to bump their rating as it was mandatory to verify thru it that u bought the asset to get docs or additional support. I have seen 5 star assets what were bad.
So while i absolutely agree there is no perfect solution and you should do your due diligence and check the assets before buying as much as u can, sometimes its not possible and its even not your fault, like i said there are sellers doing misleading things, not even mentioning assets that were sometimes below minimum usability.
U are also right that epic should provide better tools, but they could also make the rules better, right now, and they dont do it, not sure why, like why there is no rule that u need to provide all docs with the asset, its simple, its good, but its not there so ppl have concerns
Yeah there will always be certain cases of very unfair situations for sure. As a seller I can tell you right away that in 99% of cases when I was asked for a refund, it was because the buyer did absolutely ZERO research beforehand. Like they didn’t even try. Nor did they read anything in the description. A lot of things were specifically mentioned in the product description (at the top, not nested or hidden deep in the fine print). It is wild how poor some reading comprehension can be.
There’s always going to be some bad faith actors who are going to game the review system of course, even that isnt perfect. No one system is perfect, but a combination of factors like reviews, available docs, tutorials, showcases, playable exe demoes, etc, definitely the way to go. There is always a risk of course but it can be mitigated through research. The issue is far too many people don’t do the bare minimum of reading the descriptions. Can’t tell you how often I’ve gotten a 1 star review because someone didn’t read.

How are you allowed to use “easy” in your title, I tried that on one of my products and epic told me they ban subjective terms like “easy”, “simple”, etc. in titles
Haha I had EasyFog created before they had that limitation in place. Then when I made EasyMapper, my second tool, i got the same rejection as you «please remove Easy from the title», but I asked if they could make an exception in the spirit of keeping the branding the same, and they were ok with it.
You may want to add “Easy Fog” with spaces to your description or something, I couldn’t find your product when searching it with a space, only when I removed the space could I find it
There are spaces in the description, same with easysnow and easyrain, the issue right now is their SEO is soooo bad.
What’s the benefit of easy fog over unreal volumetric fog?
Used to be you could use custom tags for products, and I had spaces of the title there. but you cant use custom tags anymore, it’s annoying. Hope it changes.
Volumetric fog is great but hard to art direct specific positioning of things. EasyFog is a super simple fog card setup, makes it easy to place and art direct pockets of fog for background usage
Also your description says it’s mainly for cinematic, does that mean it’s not game ready and will result in fps drops? I might buy this in a few weeks
Mostly intended for cinematics because its for placing in backgrounds. Its a flat fog card so typically, for games, you dont want a flat card. But the FPS is perfectly fine, its a very very lightweight solution
Ah okay, with easy fog is it a plane or a volumetric 3d mesh? I’m worried from how it looks that’s it’s just something you use in the background vistas and if the player walks past it will be 2d
Its mostly for backgrounds, but you can use it for foregrounds if you place it right

I’m building a zombie mode for my game in a few weeks and want the map to look spooky
I use both 3d and 2d fog, the 2d fog is just there to look really nice at a distance and fades out as you approach
good to know, Im gonna upgrade my project to 5.5 and they added local fog actors to that version so I will probably use those

counterstrike 2 uses dust cloud cards right in the field of play (on Dust 2: B window and B tunnels). they're lined up to be perpendicular to the most common viewing angles, but fade to 0 as the camera becomes parallel with them
if they're good enough for valve they're good enough for a lot of games 🙂
as a competitive shooter they're going to be parsimonious with anything that risks taxing FPS
keep in mind that the default scaling settings disable volumetrics on (i think) medium or below. so it's good to have lighting that degrades well and not depend on volumetrics

Yep had that problem as well. Technically works on fab but i see no sales for today but that may just be me not having sales and not a technical issue

I look at it through mobile as well. Very convenient, fabs sales page is not convenient because the sales report button is hidden on mobile. Even if you force it to display the desktop version of the website the drop down menu where the button is gives you 0.5 seconds to make a selection before you get transported to the default publishing page

like if you have a valid order id, it will show up once you insert in verify order but the sales reports is empty for some reason
The monthly sales do not show if you select the month, that function is not working as intended
You have to use the daily sales and select from the 1st of the month to yesterday
Nope same here. But the new fab one works fine now. It wasn’t reliable at first but it is now. All my sales are there for yesterday.

if i recall correctly that easyrain/easysnow use a material function which modifies a material attributes pin:
for almost any material
you can enable "Use Material Attributes" in the material settings
then pass the material attributes through the easyrain/easysnow material function

How anal is Epic about "bias" wording in product descriptions? As as I know, Epic doesn't want creators to describe their products with descriptions like, "This is the best character asset that you will ever find, buy it now!"
But Epic doesn't define what bias actually is to them. How far can I take it when writing my product description? If I write, "Don't settle for less quality when you could have MORE," then will that cause them to reject my submission?

Epic usually doesn’t do hype reveals, they just release stuff then tell everyone after the fact
All of those examples are announcements the day of Black Friday, they will likely do that again the day of this year too

it's a real problem. generally the Unreal category should be better vetted than the categories that came over from Sketchfab
And, even if I wanted to use a copyrighted asset in my commercial venture, how am I supposed to get permission? Can't ask any questions!! Am I supposed to do research for a week and fire off a hundred emails begging the assumed copyright holder for permission? Just to be told...NO!

From my understanding, if you use copyrighted material you are still on the hook and will probably get a cease and desist and so will the seller if the company finds out and doesn't like the use of its copyright. The license agreement basically says epic is not liable for either you or the sellers copyrighted issues and that the seller may have to remove their product and may be kicked off Fab. I am guessing Epic has some leeway determining that. There is blatant copyright and there is accidental like including a slogan you thought was just a phrase. I am not a lawyer though so I'll just recommend erring on the side of caution
Are the sales delayed by a day? Yesterday a lot of us realized that the old marketplace sales report wasn't working. Now it tells me I had sales on the 20th even though I checked yesterday and it said nothing. Now it says no sales for yesterday (21st). And I am going to guess it'll say I'll have sales for yesterday tomorrow
Hi, with unreal plugins purchased on Fab, are the licenses per seat or per organisation? If a team of 5 is working on a project do we need to purchase 5 copies for the plugins we intent to use or 1 copy is enough? I tried to look for it under the licenses information but was not able to get a clear answer.
when making an actor, should i delete the RootSceneComponent and replace it with a mesh component, or make the mesh component a child of the RootSceneComponent, and why?
The terms are in the license but it's a really long license so I don't blame you. My current understanding is that for things that are bought that are not "plugins" there is permanent use allowed for a person and granted temporary use to anyone working on a project for the asset owner if they are using it for that project. Plugins that are defined as the things that ask you to install directly to the engine and not as a complete project or an asset pack I believe every person needs to buy that plugin that is developing with it. I may be wrong but I definitely remember that the section talking about it is in the license

Actors don’t need to have Mesh Components. Actors can be invisible. The word “Actor” doesn’t mean something you can see, its something that has a Transform( Location, Rotation, Scale) in a “World”
It’s a point in the world, and scale just determines the radius of that point
If you want to follow the rules yes its per seat.
But if you want to do what most people/ companies are doing, they just buy one and redistribute to the hundreds of employees they have.
I doubt anyone has ever had 5+ licenses from the same company.
The convenience and comfort comes from the fact that epic doesn’t show who bought from you. they just show you have a sale, thats the only info you’re privy to. You’ll never know as a seller if company X is using your plugin but only got 1 license. Also Epic would never sue on your behalf
It’s just the game…. and if you’re the buyer, odds have always been in your favor .
NB: the above is only for “Code Plugins” . The rest like Content only etc is one license not multiple ones.

That's so weird. If I ran a store front irl and sold things then I could at least see the person's face, lol. Or if I sell something on eBay then I get the person's name and mailing address. Were sellers on UE Marketplace harassing buyers at some point, or something?

They have their reasons but we’re also not privy to that too.
It’s just the game, probably epic providing a layer of protection to its buyers from lawsuits etc… Its a very thick layer of protection, youll never know. As a buyer , i like it, as a seller not so much.
Solution: do both: be a seller and buyer and abuse the clause like everyone else…

do we know why there was such a rush to launch Fab? I understand the appeal of it as a one-stop shop, but why launch it when it didn't even have feature parity with the marketplace it was replacing? Shot themselves in the foot right from the start, giving it zero chance to make a positive impression.

When you have a big, live system
and attempt to replace it with a bigger live system
you run into a dilemma where the old system needs to be kept running, and may need feature updates.
But all that work is going to get thrown out, and delays the same work on the new system, pushing the new system further back.
And the longer a product goes without live users, the more issues it will tend to have on launch, and the less sure you are that you're meeting people's needs.

I assume you meant expected, but unfortunately no emails are sent when you make a sale. Emails are primarily sent on the last day of each month with epics payment to you for your month of sales. But you have to cross the sales threshold which I think is $100?

When you want your actor to have a mesh you can either:
- Make the Mesh Component and the root.
- Make the Mesh Component a child of the root scene component…
Look at the child classes of the “SceneComponent” it will make sense.

Hi here is a small update for the people who were interested in the "FAB ... Sanctions ... Discrimination Ban" Issue (#fab message):
- All sanctions were lifted except one for the possible display of alcoholic beverages
- The discrimination allegations were withdrawn and were possibly a mistake? The fact that my appeal was also rejected by an employee was probably also a mistake?
- That my account was to be terminated was probably also a mistake?
I can only write it with a question mark, as unfortunately I have not received any clarification on the subject, even when asked. In any case, everything has been clarified, except for a bug which means that my Christmas market pack is no longer “live”.
I'm still hoping for an explanation as to how this happened and that I can finally set my pack to “live” again.

Usually I just put the text inside a widget class and call it “read me” or “how to use asset”

How do I get sample projects? I try to download from fab, it directs me to Epic Launcher. Epic Launcher directs me to Fab!
You should be able to add them to your library then it will show up in the launcher for install. Just make sure you click the refresh button so the ownership updates

Honestly that UDS plugin is the best example for something like this, its above and beyond documentation right in the editor (I just wish it wasn't a BP only plugin 😭 )
bunch of assets I own had fbx source files in a zip file and .pdf documentation inside of the asset files
so shouldn't be a problem

sorry I didnt see that was a question, most large studios build assets in house yes. they either just keep old versions in the project and exclude from packaging or they delete them after using them. usually big studios use c++ for most their code too

Small stuff like redirectors weren't fixed up. I accidentally included a version of unreal that was below the pack I submitted, they found a couple of bad naming conventions, and I had a plugin installed that was unnecessary for my pack. I think it's was modeling tools plugin. If you want I can dm you with the full list of other stuff on the checklist as a pdf
It's a good thing I made sure to fix those issues, so I should be good on what you just mentioned. But I forgot to include the READ ME FILE!!! 🤦

Well I should say don't add it in the technical details because those are hidden from the users now on fab. In order to get to that you would have to navigate to supported versions, see details, and then click technical details. Most people won't know to do that

And then there are the EOS plugins, that 5.4 versions don'trun with 5.5, cause FAB Plugin blocks their third-party SDK..
Which in all of my used EOS SDKs got fixed for 5.5, by using an integrated FAB Plugin reroute to thord party.. but the updates are still not pushed for 10 days now..
So you mean official Epic plugins? Because AFAIK, you can't distribute non-source plugins, except for code that don't rely on Unreal (which means, you can rebuild them for any engine version).
Node Graph Assistant cannot run with just replacing "5.4.0" to 5.5, cause of deprecated code in the lib.. not rebuildable from source. And this is an essential plugin for me..
Same for GameplayTagSwitch and enhanced strings.
If you know C++ you can fix it yourself. Obviously not ideal, but there's always been a few weeks of delay between engine releases and plugin updates. If you depend on a lot of third party plugins, it's always best not to jump straight into new releases

Our plugin was updated to 5.5 the day it launched and it was approved within 24 hours. Yesterday we just updated the description and it was re-published almost immediately.
Depending on which API’s they are using it may take the authors some time to update to 5.5.
For context, our plugin is Code + Demo Content, the experience with the approval cycle has been positive so far.
Although, this also dependents on the platform you target. We had one plugin (Steam) only set to target Windows, Linux & Mac, and it was approved the next day. The most important one (EOS) targets Android & iOS too along with the three above and it has been in review since a week. Also, we submitted update for Steam plugin 2 days after the Steam one.

no the packs are super mediocre, you can license some absolute bangers if you look in the right places

I think it's much easier to find a composer by just listening to game soundtracks and looking through social media and then contacting them
frankly I do not know a single composer that uses sites like that, they kinda just get in the way and demand a cut (also typically devs tend to find a composer they like to work with and stick with them for a long time)
but either way, point is that hiring a composer is gonna be much more expensive than licensing a track
but having an original soundtrack is pretty cool

Why not just use UE 5.4s auto retargeter feature it does the same thing
too complex.. and the Mixamo Animation Retargeting 2 comes with some handy features like auto IK retargeting and a better interface.. even usin gthe UE native system in the background.
Too complex? You right click an animation, click retarget and it handles the rest for you. Epic saw those marketplace retractors and made their own for free

Does baking the lights increase my project size?
Has anyone been experiencing fab material blacking out or not receiving light
lumen does not use the baked lights at all
baking lights generates lightmap textures which must be stored on disk and in vram. vram being by far the more significant of these two. but baked lighting is much faster than any kind of dynamic lighting, which is why it was adopted well before dynamic lighting and why it's still preferred on mobile and VR
nanite is compatible with baking. i do not know whether you need to re-bake if you switch to nanite but i wouldn't be surprised

I think the "Hide products created with AI" is not working properly with "on Sale".. or the creators just missed to add the Tag (which again means.. we need a report function for this..)
depends on CPU or GPU (depending on whether you use CPU or GPU lightmass) and size of environment
on a 4090 a small environment (one building) takes me a few minutes
for your environment i'd try to run it overnight
you can also choose quality settings which significantly impact both baking time and quality
so maybe you want to do your first bake on the lowest quality just to get an order of magnitude of duration

(not in the sense of, "I think it will take all night" but in the sense of "it will take a little bit so you might as well just do it overnight")

Tim Sweeney said on twitter a lot of upcoming features are mostly done code wise they just need UI stuff setup and made. So maybe instead of rushing it out and then spending 5 years writing code for the features they delayed it a year to get the code ready for rapid updates
Writing code for a live product is a lot harder than writing code for a internal tool since more checks have to be done along with release scheduling and what not

yeah my scene uses street lights a lot and right now I am doing a mix of baking and non shadow casting with culling on those, mega lights will let me use full shadow casting dynamic lighting with more of them for a more realistic look.
nanite skeletal meshes natively support VSM so thats why I want to upgrade since the rest of my scene uses those but skeletal meshes are the big performancce draw in my game
I am gonna code a optimizer component for skeletal meshes in cpp so that should offset any limited performance increase nantie SM brings
i would just wait for them to mature more, first iterations of nanite haven't been as good as it's now either
maybe the time you finish your game you don't have to worry much about them anymore
im just porting it to ps5, so its finished already. as long as they support virtual shadow maps it does what I need.

can anyone recommend any animation packs currently on sale?
A lot of them look like flashy nonsense, but there's a lot to sift through.
imho RamsterZ has pretty good sets for a afordable price
and they have a bunch of stuff on sale currently, also considering to pick more
just keep in mind that they are animations only (at least the packs that i have) and you have to create your own AnimBPs

Well, I would say no, you can't. You bought a plugin for 5.3, it didn't include ANY support for future engine version, nor new features. Unless stated otherwise by the seller (and even then, I don't think that would be binding). When you buy a plugin (or any other product), you buy what it is at the moment of purchase. Any change or update is left to the good will of the creator.

You can’t really force anybody to provide you free updates for a lifetime or even 2 years. Even if there was such a law, theres multiple loopholes within it that would make Fab more of a mess than it is.
Maintenance and bug fixes are another thing, but feature updates? nuh.
Cause what youd have is “MyPlugin1” ( UE5.3, UE 5.4 , 5.5supported)

Difference: Plugin2 has newer features. or even an updated / simpler API.

When it comes to the Internet i think the EU is somewhat of a saviour (sometimes more, sometimes less). So maybe it will actually be enforced.

Hey, I'm trying to download some assets I got on fab but the download speed is essentially 0 despite having a fast connection. I've been waiting on 100mb for the last hour. Known issue?
the fab plugin requires the owned asset be downloaded from the epic launcher vault? and the epic launcher vault requires you to first download/install an engine release before it lets you download your asset? Is there no way around these conditions like if I'm using a build from src version of the engine and I just want to download the needed version of asset it for it...?
I just got reminded of something that made me mad (how original) from watching the stream the other day. Some person asked "Hey, could you do something about all Fab assets being at the root of Content/?". The guy in charge was like "Yeah I know, it's been my pet peeve forever, I feel your pain".
But the answer has been in front of them forever: distribute everything as Plugins. There. Solved. That's it. No need to spend 1k man-hour on that task. You could have done that 10 years ago and saved everyone the headache. Epic does that internally. They even release their own products that way. Everyone knows that's best practice for reuse. And yet, here we are, all complaining during a stream about how that's annoying and how it's a big problem that will definitely not be solved anytime soon.
Sorry for the rant, but everything about Fab makes me mad beyond reason.

Tbh I don’t think epic cares too much about supporting third party EOS plugins since they provide the EOS OSS with the engine, my guess is the sellers will be forced to find a way around the fab plugin or tell users to disable it.
Third party EOS plugins likely make up such a small percentage of fabs revenue that it’s not a concern for them
thirdparty here means - the normal EOS SDK.. but the current up-2-date version.. not the soon outdated one of the engine internally.. and yes.. it will get outdated soon.. as it was with 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4.. since epic maybe throws hotfixes for the engine.. but always forgets about putting in the newest SDK..
If you compile from source on GitHub I’m pretty sure you can just upload the most recent SDK when it comes out, it’s pretty rare epic adds new features that the online subsystems dont support, maybe like 1-2 times a year they do that so you don’t need the bleeding edge versions.

The EOS SDK that's internal to the engine, is the one the Subsystems need to rely on, if epic blocks thirdparty usage out. meaning, you cannot test new Features of Platforms, that are not included into the code of the old SDK.. since epic is not capable of updating their own SDK in the engine..
And all EOS Plugins that use a self-maintainable SDK from the dev portal of epic.. are locked out right now.. since the Fab Plugin uses the EOS Shared of the internal SDK.. just for Login.. for nothing more.. and overrides the third party linking..
It's just aweful design.. since it forces to not being able to update the SDK for development and testing without packaging.
The latest bigger SDK patch added full crossplay.. was available for the Engine internal SDK after 7 Months(!!!!) While Plugins were able to use the newest version available..
You never ever want to use the internal SDK if possible - and always rely on a version you can update whenever the SDK gets updated.

Epic Launcher itself is just broken. The category filters are a complete mess (at least when the launcher is set to german) and downloading something takes ages at first with like 10kb/s and then after a while it suddenly speeds up.

How do you update Fab page details? Previously in UE Marketplace you could just make changes and they would instantly go live. However in Fab when I make change to the description for example, I have to submit it.

Fab wants sellers to support the latest engine version, you can try submitting a support ticket saying you just want to update the description but I don’t think they want products that are abandoned on the platform
Iirc they said all the stuff with the UE Markerplace license the sellers didn’t manually migrate to fab will be removed sometime next year since they are abandoned products

Well the issue people have is when someone charges say 100 dollars for the personal tier and then 1 thousand dollars for the professional tier without offering literally anything different besides discriminatory pricing.
When software companies do revenue based pricing they almost always segregate feature sets per tier. Cascaduer is the one that comes to mind but most do this. So as long as you charge fairly for all people then the initial price doesn’t matter that much. If you punish/discriminate against the successful then what incentive do those people or even aspiring entrepreneurs have to support you?
For plugins and blueprints sure but if you sell 3d models or other engine agnostic features then your doors opened much wider.
Kinda have to disagree with you on that one. Nuke Indie vs studio licensing have all the same features, only difference is your revenue. Same with every autodesk app. It is extremely standard to have different licensing tiers based on how your software/tools will be used. This is a good thing for sellers/creators. Means they can make it more affordable for the average hobbyist, and charge studios accordingly.
Sure some apps have different features with different license tiers but that’s not really the norm.
The problem is and I see a lot of people mistake this is AA and AAA studios are not using fab. They have internal teams to develop stuff in house. It is punishment and discriminatory by definition. You are free to do it but you likely will sell far less than if you did fair pricing for all. Autodesk is a multi multi million dollar company. They can run ads on every platform 24/7/365 if they were running low on customers, you don’t have that luxury.
The people using fab are indie devs regardless of their income amount, most game sales are on or near launch
A lot of devs /larger places buy tools on the marketplace/fab. Unreal isnt just for games anymore, hasnt been for almost a decade now. Virtual production teams buy up assets like candy, studios dont always have time to develop tools in house when deadlines are cutting close. There’s a ton of money to be made here. I have seen zero impact on my sales as a result, and increased revenue thanks to tiered licensing.
My only criticism is that the threshold of 100k is too low. Should be 250-500k IMO.

Yeah. Even if a tool costs 1000$. Thats still a fraction of the cost it would take to pay a team, or even an individual to make it themselves. Paying artists/devs is expensive.
Say you pay two devs 250$/day each to build said tool (and that is a dirt cheap, very low day rate for a senior). That means they would have two days to build a tool. Not gonna happen. Man-hours stack up real fast

I think tools/assets have been far too cheap for far too long to the point where it has devalued the work substantially. We need to be charging more for our work, not less.
Reusable tech for games has an incredible ceiling on cost-efficiency. The increasing adoption of Unreal is just one example of this. Getting asset prices better aligned with ROI would be killer for this

Imagine you have a super performance heavy ticking system
But it only needs to run if another character is nearby, so you optimize by disabling it when this isn't true
So what do you do? If you use an overlap sphere, or a sphere trace, to detect a character nearby -- well, that's reasonably performance heavy
Spatial hashing sorts everything into a 'bucket', and it asks 'what's in this bucket?', and then it will do other types of collision testing only if its in that bucket
This is a typical optimization that proceeds broad phase collisions (axis-aligned bounding box) and then narrow phase collisions (actual shape with potentially complex geo and rotation)
In other words, if you need to frequently search for stuff in the world, and its costly, this is a good solution
I cannot speak for that plugin itself, only the techniques, however at a glance, the techniques use suggest the author is savvy
UE already uses spatial structures for that and, iirc, they added 3d hash grid anyway. As most ue stuff however there is a lot of fat one can trim if they want.

You have two mechanics who will fix your car; one guy offers to fix it for $15, the other guy offers to fix it for $150. And what I like about point Number 4 is that it gatekeeps the low effort scammers. They're much less likely to buy your "expensive" plugin because they're fucking broke anyway. Since they won't buy, they're less likely to sell on another website and claim your work as their own.

Here's a bug for you: if you have a product in your Vault, and the creator changes the product distribution method (e.g., from Asset Package to Complete Project), you won't be able to get any update on it until you remove it from your Vault.
And since having products on your Vault is the only way to get notified of updates, this is like not an issue at all, and definitely not a design flaw 🫠

If that's how it downloaded from Fab into your project, I don't know how they passed quality check that the Fab team does. Everything usually has to be categorized in folders with strict naming conventions, and filenames had to describe what asset is. Any chance this was for unity but also compatible with ue5?
a large part of the value in buying models/environments as unreal assets is to not deal with importing
because in my limited experience nothing ever imports smoothly

when you manually import an FBX you have a bunch of options for how to convert it
these options can help or sabotage you but personally i am mostly guessing when i try to choose them wisely

The marketplace vetting for quality really can only be done by epic and verified for unreal. I cant expect them to verify everything for every dcc. It would be awesome but probably not sustainable unfortunately

Just some feedback: It's extremely frustrating that you have to submit store page updates for approval now. Especially when that approval takes days because the person approving it keeps sending it back because there's no new asset uploaded -.-

Backstory : I got approved and published my project on old UE marketplace on 16 Oct and it were making sales kinda daily not that much but only 1/day but after fab launch from 22 Oct it stopped but still made 3 sales in Oct after that. But now in this month I only made 1 sale and that was on 9 Nov.

Just a quick 30 seconds look worth of feedback: I have no idea what it even is. Its called TimeFlow FPS Template but the first three screenshots make it seem like it's an AI pack. Timeflow leads me to believe it's something maybe slow motion related? A lot of the screenshots have no context. There's no video to show off what it is.
If you were selling well on the marketplace and not on fab it’s likely your pricing structure. People here will argue with me about this but customers see charging more for the same thing as price gouging, some may be able to get away with it if they get millions of views on sites like YouTube and had lots of reviews from the marketplace transfer over but most of us don’t have that luxury.
You need to pick one of those prices and make it have parity, if you do that your sales will likely return to normal or be a bit better than marketplace was.
If you want to charge 120 then charge 120 for both tiers, but don’t make some people pay more than others for arbitrary reasons.
Ideally you would pick the price it was on the marketplace since you know customers liked that price point
At this point the Christmas sale is coming up and if you change the pricing now you will miss it and we don’t know when the next sale will be, so I would wait to change pricing until after the Christmas sale since it seems you skipped Black Friday
My products have price parity on both tiers and it’s a 50/50 split on which version people buy, I’m willing to bet most of the professional purchases don’t make 100k so the average fab customer does not really understand the differences between the tiers. So if you charge more for the tier at least 50% of people pick then your sales will fall hard.
Fab is also really bad for searching. I can't even find my product in the sale 😂
Yeah that was another issue, I typed his product in search and couldn’t find it. I had to click his discord link, he probably needs more tags
But price structure is likely the bigger issue in this case since it sold well on the marketplace and fab essentially reverted search to what it was on the marketplace
One thing fab needs to do is focus less on special characters like casing and spaces. I had the same problem with easy fog because I typed it as two words not one

For me the approvals are done within 5-10 minutes of submission if I just change soft stuff like the description so I’m pretty sure those changes are automated for approval. I’ve never had them rejected

It’s very annoying, yesterday I submitted a tiny description change but fab rejected it because of some file access issue of the plugin’s DLL, which doesn’t make sense as they already approved the plugin update previously and nothing changed.

If 59 dollars sold well on the marketplace I would stick with that but it’s better from a customers viewpoint that prices are the same, so if you want to try 100 for both options you can try that. Just don’t charge more for some users and not for others

He isn’t a bad leader because a product launch had bugs and didn’t have text reviews. Unreal engine has seen major growth recently, they reached 1 million users a month or two ago and fab is integral to their next step of doing the metaverse stuff.
I’m really happy with fab and how unreal engine has been advancing.

Unity doesn’t make games either, they are an engine company so they don’t have any personal experience with actually making games and what developers really require. Given you need to spend thousands of dollars on the asset store to have half of what unreal engine adds for free shows that unity operates differently
It doesn’t matter whether fab is beneficial to some people, it is objectively a bad launch and it is conceptually a terrible idea to combine Sketchfab and Unity assets with the already bloating UE marketplace.

Look at betide studio for reference on how to do text based screenshots and thumbnails. I’ve tried it before but it didn’t sell well for me, I think showing something like bullet time or time in a bottle style screenshots + linked YouTube video showcase would be best.
