getting this error when trying to add assets to my fresh project using FAB Plugin

The weird part is things in the vaultcache are plain missing from launcher. Some are there, others are not. So even though I have them downloaded, I can't actually use them. I submitted a support request, but I'm not very hopeful they'll actually fix anything. Probably make things worse, with how messed up this launch is.
What's frustrating to me is that I primarily have time to work on UE stuff on my days off, and now I can't. This is just a total mess.

I don't expect the average shopper has any idea what the difference is between a Smart Asset and a Game System. Heck, my Smart Asset includes a Game System, but more appropriately fits in the Smart Asset category, where I expect less visibility. (If anything, it belongs in both categories, but that's not allowed)

No. They are both for "Unreal Engine" and only Unreal Engine.
They both offer the same license options, just for different prices. Somebody stole from somebody, there's no two ways about it.
Since Fab is so new, I don't even feel like I can assume the older one is legit.

hey there does anyone else have an issue with the fab plugin not being available for unreal and most of your library content missing? I'm completely unable to use fab or get my content. If I go to fab.com and try grab some content I've paid for then it just sends me to the EGL which does nothing. I've tried reinstalling EGL and all of my engine versions

So, I get on this afternoon to find almost 80% of my library comepletely missing in the epic games launcher. It still shows all of my assets in fab, however, and I can't redownloaad them, as doing so jsut does nothing, even when refreshing in the launcher. What's going on?

To find the āFab UE Pluginā you can create another Epic Games Account, Make sure you have UE5.3 installed and then do the āSearch for Fabā method and it will show up, you can then install it to the engine and then switch back accounts. Sorry to hear that. I'm accessing Fab via the web browser - I had to uninstall the plugin as I can't read the text when using it and there doesn't seem to be any way to upscale it.

God damn this UI terrible and is like Hulu, this needs a rework. Plus everything was in one place but now its.... on a webpage, and you no longer can just click on add to cart in the marketplace viewer and now have to individually click go in and then add it and then for any of the other ones you need to repeat it. Well fab went back to marketplace style search where itās more focused on titles rather than concepts, thatās good for sales but itās bad if trying to find something being natural language.
Try āforestry soundsā or āaxe chopping soundsā you also can just sample from places like artlist.io if you have money
Maybe try breaking the sound down further, do wood breaking and axe hit sounds then combine them in a sound cue

I think bringing the old marketplace back would be a step in the wrong direction. I agree with the sentiment and frustration, but it would take them even more time to bring back the old system, which is the same amount of time that'll it take to fix some issues in Fab. A more reasonable step I would say is that they should extend the 100% revenue split for however long as it takes for them to bring back the old features (written reviews, q&a, wishlists, etc). Since it's been a week and some days already it would be nice to for it to get extended that amount of time to make up for revenue lost due to Fab's missed promises on launch
It goes until January which is 60 days away, they could bring back wishlists, discounts, and written reviews by that time. Questions will be replaced by a FAQs page but I donāt know if users will be able to submit questions or not
I think it would be smart for the fab team to try to release one new feature every month, probably start with reviews or wishlists first since thatās the most requested one

@eager flower they won't being it back since they changed their api. At best they could reinstate those features but even then, the tag system for instance is so broken finding an asset is impossible and it won't be solved.
I don't think you're understanding exactly what happened. Fab servers screwed up and we could no longer access our locally downloaded VaultCache content. Based on how that played out, it's unclear to me that content will still be available in launcher, even locally, if they sunset it from the Fab servers. So backing it up wouldn't do much good, short of backing up your entire Launcher, ProgramData, AppData, and VaultCache, which maybe is something worthwhile to do shortly before the cutoff, to be safe.

For new code plugins you must use FABURL instead of amrketplaceURL. Kinda stupid as both work perfectly fine as they accept them for older version updates

Yup, they accepted mine without it, but gave a error in technical details missing, I fixed it and resubmitted and then they remembered about Fab URL xd, and gave me error there. I think they changed the stuff recently.
They at least could have made an engine fix then so it auto-generates correctly.

go to the library tab of the launcher and search for the asset. you might need to refresh for ownership verification to occur

I'm starting to update the scrapping of Orbital Market for Fab, it should be available in the upcoming days with new features for discovery!
Small note while I'm trying to get the new uid for every product, it seems like there are about 4k products (out of 55k) that did not migrate to Fab.
@undone valve I just checked the sales reports today for fab and I sold 3 units in one day at full price. I donāt think I ever did that on marketplace. My sales for less popular products seem to be a little bit better on fab than the marketplace now that they fixed search
So far since fab launched I have sold 5 units for 130 dollars, most of that has been in the last 5 days too

The fab says it updates before bed time for me. It lines up with the old one, Iāve had no issues since its release

Orbital Market is probably helping sales more than anything on Fab. I made some purchases based on things I saw there, that I probably wouldn't have even seen with the terrible discovery that Fab has by default.

In terms of accessibility - undecided - pages > endless lists.. Categories are aweful

Honestly, pushing this back by another 6 months into 2025, with an open beta phase and thorough bug tracking, would likely have yielded a far better product.
While Epic has once again labeled this as a āreleasedā feature, in reality, itās more of a beta ā nothing more.
Epic is quick to mark things as released, even when they're far from stable. Just look at the initial release of CommonUI for comparison.

Heya folks, reaching out cuz I have no idea what I'm doing wrong :p
I automatically moved over a plugin from the marketplace to FAB when that became available, but I'm now having some issues with users not being able to find the plugin in the plugins tab of the engine. My best guess as to what's causing this is the Distribution Method option in FAB, which is set to "Asset Package", which... isn't right, but the only other option is "Complete Project"? I feel like I must be missing something obvious - how do you distribute plugins with FAB??
Categories in FAB are way off.. even in the Launcher and the Plugin.

Nope, I can see it in the plugin and download it from there, but it never shows up in the engine's plugins tab

You can tile the texture in substance if thatās easier for you, there are tutorials on tiling textures in unreal materials
Matt Ashland probably has one. Basically you multiply the texture coordinate node by two constants appended together that represent X and Y.

One thing I kinda miss from the marketplace was the short description
I have found that younger audiences are bigger audiences, around the age of 20 to 40 seems to be the largest in my findings. So it would make sense to target your description format for that age. The unreal engine videos I make are starting to be formatted for a younger audience as well. I change the camera focus every 5-15 seconds and never have a dull or filler moment and it's exhausting for editing since there are like 50 individual clips in a 10 minutes video. But my average viewer age range changed from 35-45 to 25-35. Which also increased my audience size. I miss the days of recording once with a single screen capture but it just doesn't perform as well on youtube anymore
I did find that using the emoji format was a bit easier to read given it focused more on digestible reading

I like Project FPS, pretty cheap but it's a blueprint pack. Compared to like the other template projects that cost $120 to $300
There's also FPS Multiplayer Controller, FPS Toolkit Lite, and one more I'm missing that I could probably slightly recommend?

you are not understanding @drowsy plaza there are 3 items, marked as on sale. their discount is 0% discount, meaning full price (unless something odd happens when you add to cart)
if you go through checkout or click "buy now", they'll show the proper 100% discount, it's just a visual bug
aside from the bug showing 0% I really like how discounts show up on fab, its very noticable when searching

Great. What happens to products that arenāt available on Fab anymore but were on UE marketplace?
UE marketplace had a strict copyright ruleset for publishers to follow, but with Fab I'm seeing a lot of gun assets that break those rules. I'm seeing real life brand names being used, and the gun model geometry is nearly true to life. Is Epic being lax on the rules now, or are these gun assets just carry-overs from Sketchfab?
Some were carry-overs for sure not sure about others. Some guns are able to be made without licensing but list is very small iirc.
You can make guns with expired patents, like an Uzi for example. But I'm seeing names like Smith & Wesson and Taurus, and it's for their newer gun models.

If I want to have UE5+ compatibility, It's enough to send to Fab only from UE5.0 for should I send from all versions?
For Code/BP Plugins:
Each Major version needs its own compiled/packaged Plugin version
5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and soon 5.5
Subversion like 5.4.4 are normally working with the major ones.
whenever you submit a product to sell on the store, you need at least one version of your package that supports the latest version of the engine.

If I want a product I'm working on to support older versions, I usually build it in the oldest version I want to support. When I'm all done I progressivly move it up to the newest version, saving off builds of the package as I go.
After your product is approved and up on the store, you can add in the rest of copies of your package for each older version of the engine you want to support

This means, if I have inside Content -> MyProject -> Rock (Inside I need to have Materials and Static Meshes folder?) Or inside the rock folder, all the files? from SM, MI, Textures?
typically most users stay up to date on engine versions, so when I make a new pack I usually only support 3 or 4 older builds of the engine from the newest one
you will have 1 folder in the content folder that will hold everything in your package, named with the name of your product, and inside that folder you can organize it however you want
That's my structure
I typlically have folders labled: Maps, Materials, Meshes, Textures
I had in that way, but first rejected it, because told me, to put everything in one folder (their respective asset)
Now, I need to change it back
yeah it will be a lot cleaner when that is all sorted into folders for the type of asset it is like what I described above

They're hidden, I didn't find a good reason to keep them... (There are about 2000 products that did not migrate, most of which are either Unreal content like "Shooter Game" or product with zero reviews)

Iāve noticed something odd about fab compared to the marketplace, when I sell on fab I sell multiple products in a day but then it settles down for a couple days then repeats, on the marketplace I sold 1 product once a day or 1 product 3-5 times a week
So it comes out to a similar sales amount but fab has more users on specific days I guess
has anyone had problems as a seller updating their fab/ue marketplace assets? I've just released an update, had it approved and released, deleted local content and the new version isn't being deployed.

I do not like a single thing about FAB it just sucks the current state it is in
I much prefer fab over the old UE marketplace. UX needs some polish but it has a lot more upward movement it can make over the old marketplace being stuck in the epic games launcher. It needed to be exclusively in a browser.

Got the sale invite but got a question. It says items must be listed for at least 30 days. In the signup sheet there's a question which says include all products or include specific products. If I select all products, will Epic automatically ignore the product that hasn't been listed for 30 days or do I need to add all my products myself to avoid an issue? It won't be 30 days by the start date of sale.

They are coming either end of this year or early next year, this was a MVP launch I think so it wasnāt feature complete on day 1
Current limited data suggests that fab is actually better for my sales/revenue than the marketplace was after they fixed their discovery problems on launch. Iāve made about 180 dollars on fab in the first 7 days of this month with my average price being 30-40 dollars and a couple 5 dollar things, on the marketplace for September and October the first 7 days of the month were around 110-130
One thing thatās helping is the days I do sell stuff, multiple products are sold not just one thing per day

It seems no new Unreal assets got published to Fab in ~20h, which is very weird. On average it's more like ~20min between new products. Either something's wrong on the publishing side, or on the display/sorting side.

Basically you have a file in the folder, which is not packed by default.
everything in the plugin is a uasset in the plugin content folder a cpp header file in the source folder. The only thing I can think of is the resources folder which holds the plugin icon but ive not had other plugins fail for having a icon

Question i seen today or yesterday a product with offical branding of Pepsi and some other brands they dont mention anything in the licence its just regular licence, can you really use that stuff in a game / product. I dont think so or since GTA would not use fake brands.

Itās up to you to make judgements on whether an asset is usable or not, Pepsi branding is obviously not usable so donāt use it in a game. Fab doesnāt need to censor this when it does have use cases
Don't use it for anything you plan to make money off of is the general rule for branded content. Also don't use it in anything that defames the company

I'm considering pulling all of my products from Fab. This new store is a mess. I've had 1 single sale since the store changed, while I was averaging ~30/month previously (50+ on a good month). Meanwhile the store is completely packed with all this ripped content as the posts above are showing + all the useless AI filler.
give it a month before you decide to do that, most sellers are reporting that sales have gone back to normal since a week ago. but if you feel thats best for your business then you should trust your gut

I think depending on the asset type, there would be minimal to extreme degradation of sales caused by the fab transition. I am guessing plugins might weather the store's mess, but art assets would be hit significantly hard.

I advise against using templates to build games, usually they limit your creativity and capabilities. thats usually what asset flippers do is just pack together different templates
yeah i have my own game with cpp but feels like a lot of repition (like reinvetning the weel in a lot of parts too)
You might just need to use better search keywords and tags if selling 3d models. if selling a santa claus model say "Christmas santa pack" not "Holiday joy theme park"

I built my first game off a template from the marketplace and I had to gut like 90% of it in order to build something unique, templates are on the rails meaning its very hard to deviate from them if your ideas go beyond the stock rpg

id say you will spend more time trying to modify the template than just building the systems from scratch

because just setting up the basics of for example a souls game could take up 1 year when working fully on it
its ultimately up to you, if you are comfortable modifying templates and using other peoples code bases then you should have no problem, I like to have control over my codebase so I avoid templates and usually when I see people use them the games look assety
Probably due to typing "rocks" instead of "rock". Rocks are giving me better results, but it is very poor search functionality for the site to assume rocking chairs and rocking toys are what we need when searching for rock.

with templates you run into the issues of generic mechanics and poor game design since you are limited by the template structure

True, I still struggle with understanding how unity works. Like it doesnāt have simple stuff like debug camera in its PIE or any prebuilt classes such as pawns, characters, camera shakes, etc. As far as I can tell everything needs to be built from scratch or use an asset with unity. I think that comes from the fact unity doesnāt make games, so they never had to make tools for games. Most the stuff in unreal comes from stuff that epic made for Fortnite and older games like most the components

One more thing, if anyone knows, do I send Epic the entire project folder for review? My first product is a gun that comes in 2 different caliber variations and with a whole bunch of accessories. Each asset is functional in that they come with Blueprints to activate their features, such as turning on a red dot sight or a flashlight.

I've been using Unity longer than UE, so I am comfortable with both. Made multiple projects using them. That said, I just hate using Unity for anything because I got spoiled by the sheer volume of features and QoL provided by UE. Along with prebuilt advanced classes and blueprints, we have features like freely editing existing animations which are impossible in Unity but it's a nothingburger in UE using it's persona editor. The workflow is nothing short of enjoyable. I just loathe making anything using Unity unless it's a well paid client project lol
You send them the config, content, and uproject folders/file. they donāt accept any submission that has temp folders in it

Make sure you delete the developers and I think collections folder in your content folder too, a fab reviewer failed me for having that.

So fab doesnāt have analytics yet but going off the itch demo links, fab seems to have more traffic than the marketplace did. I showed the first of October until today. Initially fab sucked but now itās better than the marketplace

Yeah, I did actually use the wishlist a lot. It was really handy for bookmarking assets that looked interesting but weren't required right away. I heard it wasn't being carried across to Fab so I took screenshots before they shut down the marketplace. Hopefully they bring it back in Fab...

Just found out that if you group the sales by month (e.g. November) nothing shows up. If you group by date range, then you can see them for the same month. Anyone else is experiencing this?

the monthly report is generated at the end of the month after it ends, you should be able to see octobers monthly report but not novembers
UE marketplace sales reports have not been transferred over to fab yet either, so only fab sales from the 22nd onwards wills how up
Exactly what I suspected, but that is a totally counterintuitive UX, also because the two options are side by side and there is no explanation about them being different. In that case November should be greyed out until December.

My customer purchased my asset and I checked it with verify order and it seems correct, but even though he purchased it 2 days ago, it still does not appear in the sales reports. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I asked my customer for a full invoice and the date was November 8th but the verify section showed November 9th.
Sales data was not wrong, verify order showed the date section incorrectly.
This sales reports feature needs to auto-fill a reasonable range, having to enter data manually just to check recent sales is ridiculous
Also, its failing to report sales anywhere at all
I know because people are verifying purchases in my Discord that I cannot see any record of, including pro licenses (of which 0 records exist anywhere)

Also, the dates are backwards, literally only 1 country on earth does mm/dd/yyyy, the bare minimum is compromising with yyyy/mm/dd, its an international service
The people working on this product don't think beyond their own country, invalid date format, not specifying currency, etc

That still adds them to your account so you'll own them even after the end of the year. They didn't make them go to your library because that's 17000+ individually listed assets. Good luck finding which asset has update in the launcher if that were the case

I like it now that they did a lot of updates since launch, some people here donāt though. I guess itās up to personal experience. Only thing I miss about the marketplace is you could use it from the epic games launcher

- no q&a
- no full-res screenshots
a bunch of missing quality-of-life features and not much in the way of improvements yet

How has the sales been for your darkness asset since fab launched and did their updates? A lot of people including myself are reporting sales are returning to normal now
my sample sizes are too small to draw much conclusion:
september was an incredibly slow month, then october was much better
maybe my smallest nitpick yet, but fab doesn't show the VAT/tax which provided some insight into where globally your sales were being made (you can work backwards from VAT to a small list of countries)
but also it would be nice if it autofilled the current date as the end date
and replaced any start date before 10/1/2024 with 10/1/2024, because why show an error when you can trivially fix it?

my products are too far along the pipeline to not release them š but i feel a strong urge to hold them back with the hope of wishlists returning
because wishlists/preorders/mailing lists are a valuable mechanism for converting launch interest into sales down the road, and launching without that mechanism feels like throwing sales away

frankly, it makes me want to create sales funnels that are less tied to Fab itself, something off-platform
