sketchfab has been full of unlicensed IP and copyright infringing assets for years and now they've merged it into fab, they're gonna have to address it at some point lol
True, the main problem is the licenses that accompany these. They will have to address it sooner than later.
On one of the devices I was able to login and when clicking Claim all Megascans getting:

ok, i managed to get around not being able to authenticate. I was logged in to FAB on my laptop since this morning so I just copied over the cookies from there
it seems like they fixed the problem where the website breaks if you log in, but now the problem is you cannot log in

Yep, the authentication is dead now, if you have logged in on another device or browser before, you can try and copy over the cookies

you get the license that is applicable at the time of purchase, there is nothing retroactive. if your company grows only newly acquired assets will need to be purchased as pro.

assets you acquired on a personal license and are using while below the 100k threshold don't have to be repurchased even if the project grows. if your company has grown to be above the 100k threshold and you start a new project you'd have to acquire the now appropriate license.

I have a strange feeling that sales will decline
to really simplify it, you have to buy the license that is appropriate at the time of purchase. from then onward you can freely use them. if you at some point grow beyond the 100k threshold and you transition to >100k. the assets you purchased prior are still valid and licensed but NEW assets you will have to purchase the pro license.

so i'm hoping I'm missing something but I want to put a megascans material in an unreal scene. I used to just use bridge but now its redirecting me to fab, and giving me the option to download all the individual parts (bump, diffuse, etc) ? there's no longer a one click download / import solution?

The $100k cap compared against the prices they're charging annihilates profit margins. The entire point of Unreal was high profit margins and it just evaporated.

honestly seeing the terrible shit from sketchfab on FAB with all the copyright, stolen assets, poorly managed licenses, ripped assets. i have next to no trust to buy nearly anything on FAB without being worried.

This unprofessional rollout, with this terrible marketplace, with junk assets, ridiculously low cap... there's nothing good about this. At all. It's what professionals call regression, we just took a giant step backwards, including the people selling assets on the store.
if you are basing your profit margins on fab prices you got bigger issues honestly. and probably are below the 100k threshold to begin with.

the value is one unified marketplace of what used to be multiple stores, with full integration into the engine. exposing more clients to more sellers. that is what the users of FAB get out of it. for UE devs its not much more than what the marketplace was and it isn't supposed to be.

the license tier doesn't matter after acquisition, so long as you buy the appropriate tier for your financial situation at the time of purchase, for quixel content(while it is still free) there are no tiers and you will be allowed to use the assets without having to fall within any specific tier at any given point in time.
does fab remember what license level option you've picked prior? considering this is something that applies to all purchases, wouldn't it make more sense to have this be an account level thing, that they perhaps confirm on each purchase in case it's changed?

one of the biggest things that makes 3d models useless for a use case is that they are open backed-- limiting what you can do with them massively

- Sort "Supported engine versions" descending rather than ascending so 5.4 is at the top, not 4.0
- Allow searching for multiple categories simultaneously (because it's not obvious even to the creators how to categorize products)

Yesterday I was searching for metahumans so I typed in met and added the tag clothing and had the complete list. Now I type in meta and get it only for things with it in the title and there is no category for clothing so pages of 3d models and textures and sounds I don't wanna look at. Is so bad
I literally dunno how to find all those assets now. I'm not gonna go through 100+ pages of sound packs

I tried logging into FAB, but I after I do I receive this error. I've tried it in a private tab, cleared cookies and cache, turned off extensions, but nothing seems to be working

Why is there so much cynicism around fab, I am really liking the new change. Most the stuff I see people mad about either doesn’t really affect them or are really trivial things that don’t matter too much like wishlisting stuff you won’t buy for 12 months or reading that a UE4 plugin isn’t supported anymore in a review.
Search has been vastly improved for discovery, the new infinite scrolling is better than 500 pages, sellers have to worry less about 1 or 2 bad ratings tanking their sales, you can filter AI now, and the website has been faster than the marketplace one. Overall this seems like a really good step forward

if i made 100k... then suddenly everything in my library becomes illegal to use... and its a mad rush to figure out what.

It's mostly just like people on twitter and reddit. Those folks are always that way.
sometimes i use just 1 vfx out of a pack of 100... but IF i knew i had to pay 100x that once i made 100k... i would not use it at all
this is not true. the licenses remain perfectly valid. the only thing that matters is the financial status at the time of acquisition.

I have much better discovery now, a few months ago I needed some skyscraper assets and one search on fab pointed me exactly what I needed as where the marketplace gave me “no results found” or “here is this 300 dollar pack that isn’t really about skyscrapers”

if you have perchased something on a valid personal license and after the fact start to earn over 100k the license is still valid.
in any case... anything i bought from the old marketplace.. is still bound by old marketplace TOS.

it really isn't. you just check your finances at the time of purchasing and then never again. if you are 100% certain you are below 100k, you buy the personal license and don't think about it anymore untill you pass 100k revenue upon which point you only need to worry about buying the pro license on things you buy AFTER that.
Just realized that with Epic Games changing over to Fab, my Unreal Marketplace wishlist has been completely nuked. Is there any way to get it back to look the items up on Fab?

The new fab search must be using AI or something because it recognizes normal language. You can type “lawn grass pack” and it will find assets to build a home lawn, on the marketplace it didn’t work that well for stuff like that
Most of the toxicity, at least on reddit, seems to be around the fact that the libraries take a while to load. People don't give it a few hours to let it sync and started acting like epic just took all their shit away

so, once you become a big shot dev making over 100k in the past 12 months you start buying pro licenses instead of personal ones. beyond that you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I was searching for my products and I accidently did some typos and it still found them at the top which was awesome.
I think fab just uses SEO a lot more, so ranking works more like Google
it uses both fuzzy search and algorithmic search through both title and description. its just not great when u are looking for something very specific because it will give a bunch of "not quite" results.

the launcher and the UE integration are both still to be released, theres also another list of known issues pinned. and obviously a bunch of features people think should be added, some more valid then others

I have not had any issues finding specific assets I know the name of tbh. After typing in mine they all showed up, using keywords they showed up, and using description like “skyscraper pack” worked as well

I think products that rely extensively on made up marketing mubojumbo will probably do worse on fab though, SEO seems to be key here
I just updated the launcher and still nothing appears even after hitting the Refresh button. Then I checked opening a project for the FAB plugin from within and it doesn't appear listed. Is it installed by default and cannot be removed? How are we supposed to find a "download/install new asset from library" option from the editor? I really hope these questions are addressed soon, because the fact I cannot do anything at all is starting to effect my workflow badly.

the trust i have in buying assets on fab has gone down considerably with the merge of sketchfab though cuz sketchfab assets are as the name implies quite sketchy, lots of copyrighted works, shady practices, ripped/stolen assets, low quality material. andwhen i say copyrighted works i mean there is anything from copyrighted art, stock photos with not included and undisclosed licenses, IP violations against companies like nintendo.
so that definitely isn't great.

yeah people selling "fan art" and "stolen assets" on sketchfab... always been sketchy
theres also lots of copyrighted images and textures being used on 3d models, which means even if the model is unique its still a huge risk.
Just stick to packs I guess, don't risk downloading individual models unless they come from known publishers like megascans.

yeah marketplace content used to be properly vetted... now we just dont know who to trust
there's not much we can do for now. We can't even report it ourselves since I'm pretty sure it asks for more details, so we have to be the copyright holder of the models to be able to report these copyrighted stuff
What an encouraging nickname! 😄 By the way, seriously speaking, you're right I expressed my concern about that during the waiting for the release. That's why i will only pick stuff from the Unreal Engine section of the store. What you pointed out definitely needs to be addressed. High quality must be guaranteed and I'm curious to khow how Epic will keep those standards high and if they are gonna still make a selection process when developers upload new UE-ready assets.
yeah i mean tbf the quality on marketplace was often already hit or miss, but then it was "mostly" in the actual quality of the work, not the legality, aside from the occasional stolen or ripped assets etc. which you can never fully avoid happening in any reasonable capacity.
I feel like the sketchfab migration needed more moderation to avoid this issue entirely. I don' think SF assets get automatically migrated, someone needs to migrate them themselves so moderation really should've been tighter to avoid copyright. I feel like they should also leave sketchfab alone since it's just being used as a model junkyard at this point
pretty sure the migration was automatic manual migration was possible to make full use of fabs features, like the tiered pricing. but if you did not manually migrate you just got migrated with default settings, which is what seems to have happened with alot of marketplace assets as well
I don't mind the most basic stuff, sometimes there's something in there worth too. At the end of the day it's all about the developers and the project they are working at, if for a commercial game or just for learning purposes or even just pure hobby.

I bought assets I found useless.
Another concern of mine... UE4 based characters and UE5-ready characters... i find annoying by now that even new characters are still built/rigged on the old UE4 skeleton... I really hope Epic will make sure we can know which character assets are UE5-Ready or just UE5-Compatible, which are two completely different stories!

It seems like getting the pro license makes more sense in that case, but then will it cause trouble if you buy personal licenses for other things?
Like it would make sense to cover potentially earning more if your game is a success, but not if it's gonna cause problems getting the personal licenses if it doesn't
it actually does not matter if the price is the same, but you should buy the one appropriate for your financial situation (below or above 100k revenue)

this is a misunderstanding your license does not become invalid once you start earning above 100k. your income in the 12 months prior to PURCHASING is the only thing that is considered, how much you make after you already own the license does not matter.

I'm just a former mainstream Designer turned to "game development" only a couple years ago... very far from being able to release anything commercial aside new architecture/furniture assets which are also something it's too early for me to do for UE. A Personal License" is a natural choice for me.

If you complete a Transaction for a License Tier you were not eligible for at the time of purchase, you must, upon request, pay Epic the remainder of what you would have owed had you purchased a License Tier you were eligible for.

Now for the fun part. Some assets have the pro listed cheaper than the personal
So if you're a personal and you buy pro, then you could be required to pay the difference
which means the same thing. you have to buy the license appropriate for you, if you buy the pro license because its cheaper but you should have bought the pro, you will be required, when asked. to pay the difference
I'd expect that using something without an appropriate license is just straight up copyright infringement, so that just seems surprisingly chill
therefor i'mma make an asset for 1000 bucks on personal, and 5 bucks on pro. and then make a good pile of cash going after people that bought the wrong one.
then again I suppose that's the responsibility of the rights holder and not epic

A little more complicated than that probably. I think it comes down to misrepresenting your situation to get the cheaper license. Most software vendors are happy to let you pay more for a pro license even if you're indie

the unity assetstore is owned by unity, you gave your money to them and they provide you with the assets you paid for
yes, because normally those licenses include extra benefits you can pay for even if its not intended for you, there is no limitations in the pro licenses that state you have to earn a certain amount, but there is in the personal licenses stating you cant earn more than a certain amount. in tha case of fab each license is distinctly limited to specifically its own tier, and you can make below or above a certain amount.
Alright... here an example that helps me describing what I talk about when it comes to defining prices and licenses... this awesome asset comes with two license {haven't found any yet with 3 or more licenses like happens in Artstation instead in which is a great thing about them for me compared to, for example, CG Trader which sucks when it comes to defining licenses} but, in my opinion, is a bit misleading. In this case in fact I believe not everybody who's done less than 100K is the same... that same category includes those who made 99k and those, like me, who made 0K {sad but true!}. I believe in this case we should have Personal, Indie/Professionals and Studio licenses.

that would certainly be cases where it makes more sense. the personal reference license lets you learn from the learnign material and use what you make, while the personal license lets you copy and use anything they provided within.
Ain't a personal problem, aside the fact that a difference of price is relevant of course but in case of prices definitions I believe everything should depend on size, **complexity **and/or **quality **of the asset you/we sell.

Oh well, trust me, people with a particular attention to their own budgets can see the problem those licenses definitions would solve! 😏
the price is whatever the seller wants to ask for it, you decide whether that price is worth it for what you get. the 2 tiers let you ask more money from people that will use your assets to generate more funds. all adding more tiers does is adding more granularity to how much each tier pays.
That's of course the seller's choice, I didn't speak about that, I'm gonna sell asset myself so I talk in perspective.
okay so what would a third indie license provide for you that the current tiers don't?
Besides I actually believe Epic will add more licenses later on, they are already busy with the current complexity of their own task right now.

I'm a newbie in game development {aside a decade of modding games} but I've got a 35+ years professional background, including project and studio management, so I can speak from that perspective and that's what I'm doing.
I'm to be considered as retired now {despite being just 51!}, I was fed with my professional world. Game Development and Arts projects are my only world now and going completely solo like I'm doing makes me very considered about budgets {low budgets, I'd say} and investments. Besides I know pretty well, I'm not the only case. I'm not a white fly, many are in my very same condition. so I just try to speak for them too. I'm not complaining, I'm just proposing solutions to what can be or become an issue for many.

I have a lot of complaints, but I was able to get the blender project file for an unreal environment I bought recently and that honestly makes up for everything lol
keep in mind you're talking about 100k revenue, not a budget. or funds. if you make 100k as an indie with say 3 people, you have to deal with per seat licensing and you still have to deduct taxes and costs to get your actual income, split three way each person might only make 15K, in a full year of working on a project.
if you are solo working on a personal project you could earn only 50k and make significantly more money than an indie "studio" at 100k. and you only have to buy 1 license.
(the 100k do include funds though)

below 100k you are talking about tiny groups of people who are making things because they want to make things. above 100k you could say there is some money that can be (re)invested in some cases.
i don't see any signifficant benefit adding a third tier inbetween.
what could potentially make some sense is to add a higher tier for companies making over 1mil or a few mil. but honestly... the amount of companies at that scale of yearly revenue would be such an absolute tiny share of FAB sales that it is not worth the extra hassle, at those scales you are hiring artists and designers and commisioning work from freelancers. you're not searching through fab for per seat licensed assets.

I do consider all that as well, but one count are funds and one count is a personal budget, which is most likely personal savings for example. Your example, from my point of view, reinforces my statement. As a matter of fact I've put Indies and Professionals licenses together, as separated from a Personal license. Again. Artstation is pretty solid when it comes to defining licences. Just to be clear, Here is, most likely, what I'd consider appropriate:
PERSONAL
For an hobbyist or student or for individual creator {but might also be some no-profit association or cultural entity providing free courses and such} with no more than $25k of revenue or funding in the last 12 month.
INDIE/PROFESSIONALS
For a solo professional creator or a small team with no more than $100k of revenue or funding in the last 12 month.
STUDIO
For a professional team, studios o other entities with over $100k of revenue or funding in the past 12 month.
I hope my point makes more sense now.

if your content isn't mature, you might want to let them know as such and see if they'll deign to have a human look upon it

Fab so far seems to have a hard time showing "owned" instead of the price when you're looking at search results. It'll show as owned when you open the asset's page though

Where can I find the assets once claimed?
For now, you can download assets individually from the Quixel profile on Fab. We're working on a solution to add all Megascans to your Fab library and allow you to easily manage them. Stay tuned for more details.

Yes you can claim all quixel assets but they will not be added to your library for now. Theyll probably figure out something until the end of the year. But you should, theoretically, own all quixel assets once you click the button.

Yeah i wanted a tab strictly for ue as even ue had tons of assets, flooding them with more assets from other sites makes it convoluted in my opinion. For now, i just use the filter ue content.

I do see the sales but i don’t know if it was before Fab Launched or after it.
I absolutely do not understand why the favorites item was not integrated. I had things stored there that I would like to buy in the future. Now I don't even know which ones and how many there were because everything is gone. It was thus possible to monitor asset prices and their possible discounts.....simply incomprehensible. This so-called FAB had to be made by someone who had not even seen the marketplace from a speeding car.

Technically, Fab cannot sell or license it to you either, but copyright law on the internet is the wild west and they can get away with it for as long as no lawyer of the copyright holder puts in the effort to have it taken down. You'll be on the hook for it in the same way, so I'd keep away from anything that seems sketchy for now.

Though for that specific model I'm not sure, because it does not look like a real Nissan GTR, or the one used in NFS Most Wanted. Merely the brand logos on the tires and side decals are a definitive problem I think.
Yea their isn't any official branding on it, but just through browsing, I spotted a lot of licensed assets so wanted to know how that is all going to work
Does anyone else also has issues with the license being wrong? in the email it stated that the license for stuff bought from "Marketplace" would be UE Marketplace license, rather than the new system, but all my assets I bought from UE Marketplace now has a standard license suddenly.

FAB currently lists Personal per default.. even you own Professional

How to download assets in the Source version of the engine? Before the appearance of the fab everything was ok, but now it’s not on the list. And I used legendary to download plugins, but the plugin from the fab did not appear there
The FAB plugin currently is not working -you need to load each Asset individually and add it to the Plugins Folder of your Project/Engine or the Content Folder

You install a Launcher version of Unreal Engine via the Epic games launcher.. and install Plugins of the fab Library (previously named "Vault") to it..
The open the Engine's Plugins Folder and copy your plugins over to the Source version Engine

It would have been cool if there was an exclusion filter, like i want to check everything under the UE engine, but exclude 2d assets and music, i feel there is no option atm.
Good thing is that there is now the “I abandoned this product filter” using the UE marketplace license

I think Epic currently is on fixing the FAB market and releasing the Plugin, then targeting the launcher.. and then the migrate the publisher portal to FAB, too

can you add the "questions"? it was important for me as i get to see valid questions (before the verify flooding questions) from people and replies from the creator without asking again, unless creators will add commonly asked questions or faqs.

Fab for Unreal needs some rework of the Categories, too..
It is really hard/impossible to filter for Blueprints, specific Plugin types and such.. Assets are scattered in all and every category, without a big sense. The "Smart Assets" Category currently is filled with models, code plugins.. even audio assets.. don't know what is "smart" on those..
Decals are in "2D Assets".. while "Decals" is empty..
"UI" also needs subcategories for "Widgets", "UI Kits" and "Full UI/UX Systems"
..and so on..
( i think this also belongs to the Unity Section, too.. but can't speak for those..)
Oh - this can spell doom then as so far I've not made a single sale on fab while usually I get quite a fair bit on a daily basis
Now, obviously the marketplace just launched and it will take a bit of time for people to acclimate to it, but it could also mean that a lot of creators will be negatively impacted in the short term.
Same goes for me. Not made a single sale on Fab but on the UE marketplace instead. But someone shared their Fab sales already so I know it says "Fab Listing Sale" or something when you sold something on Fab

Not sure if this bug was just on my end, but also seems like if you change your seller name, your products won't display on your page anymore until you submit an update to them
Just verified an order for the first time on FAB, have to say it's very straight forward and pain free.
No bot or such that can automate it, but it takes about 20~ seconds per user so I have no complaint!

Currently assets are completley cluttered all over the place.
- Decals are all in the “textures”, “2d assets” and “materials” category even though they should be in the “Decals” category
- You really cant find blueprints anymore. Searching the “Smart Assets” category results in absolute junk. You can find any type of asset there. From audio cue...

They find it in their initial purchase email. Second option is their Epic Game account page, under Transactions -> The item purchased, when pressed it expands the purchase information

I find it worrying that so much feels rushed.
The amount of ripped or ip infringing assets in there is astounding, hard to feel confident for buyers when they have no idea if what they're buying is actually legally licensed or just a scam.
And things like wishlists from the marketplace just going poof, I had quite a few plugins in my wishlist that I was considering buying if there was a sale or simply to remember them later, but that's all gone now, and no wishlist feature exists in fab yet.

That's good at least, but still, feels like it would be the very basics to include when migrating accounts to a new service.
Not that I think they didn't think of it, but rather that they were likely under heavy time pressure and had to cut such things
I'm more considering for people selling things, if all their potential customers wishlists now depend on said customers emailing support then they can pretty much be considered gone ^^

Also the different license options are pretty confusing, at least for me as a buyer. I get that bigger studios get to pay more, but there are "reference" licenses and other stuff that makes it hard to figure out precisely what you can do. At least the unreal market had a clear one license

i think epic should've moved UE 5.5 more.. and focus on a good release of Fab..

Fab shouldv'e really started with a storewide sale or some kind of legacy sale for migrating sellers. You're in there with all the new ones while the migration cut all of your store recognition

They didnt transfer for some of them. And for others I havent reached the 5 rating threshold yet.

If the products which lost their ratings had less than 5 ratings, it is intended behaviour: they are counted but not visible until you have 5 reviews on the product
If they had more reviews, it's probably part of the list of bugs the fab team needs to work on

On that specific point, later in the discussion it came up that this wasn't an EU rule, and maybe somewhat sometimes potentially just a german rule.
Apple can’t release new tech there because of all the dumb regulations the dinosaurs running the EU are doing. Macs can’t screenshare with iPhone because the EU is trying to tell Apple their protocol needs to be open so Apple is just not releasing there like a chad

Most the products on fab were migrated but because regulators are stupid their rule doesn’t have exceptions for that because blanket regulations harm the individual

When you say it like that, I'm actually for the EU rule. Apple is just complaining because they don't want anyone touching their walled garden (same fight Epic is fighting BTW). They very much can do screen mirroring, they just don't want to do it in a way that would be helpful to customers. It's their choice, not the EU.

If you want your UE marketplace wishlists you need to write to support. If you want to use Unrealsales.io. it seems like the website isnt responding anymore to requests. Maybe they shut it down. It worked yesterday

I updated my asset pack and the review was successful. I selected to automatically publish once the review is done but it's stuck in this state and I can't do anything... any solutions other than contact support which will probably take several days?

For me it took a few hours to publish. If waiting doesnt help reach out to support. This is a known issue that they want to fix. If you use special characters in your file name then that is the reason for it to not work

Is it me or is the Fab store just bugging out today? I try to sign in, it appears that I'm signed in. I can view my library but if I click my top right account icon it just brings me back to the discovery page. If I try to add something to my library it brings me back to discovery. I already claimed the quixel assets yet it says I didn't, it asks me to sign in then it just brings me back to the discovery page afterwards. Am I signed in or not? What the hell is going on
