They do play them, the gameplay footage is used for a compilation (and also proof that you have something working)
they do, but it's just a lil extra you have to do. just whack open OBS and grab a quick video, doesnt need editing if you dont have the time

Welp, no time left and still have 1000 of bugs, half of the game need sounds, tutorial is left, boss fight aren't alighning, AI is breaking down, levels aren't correctly loading, character is not syncing with the level and Boss is ignoring me altogether. I guess this is it for me. Not to mention the theme related mecahncis are not working because of the level. Only thing i can say to console myself is atleast i learned a ton of new things this jam which I really did. And since this was my 1st jam, imma come prepare for next time. It won't matter, i can only fix some things, but the main theme related mechancis wont be fixed, not to mention the game is missing a lot of sounds

Tip: If you're still developing your game, stop and submit your game now. The submission form requires a lot of info, and you can update your game until the deadline in ~2 hours.

No. Nano works out of the box with UE5 (benchmarks in the readme). However, you do need to install an additional component to package games in UE5.
i got some decent sleep throughout the week, but it still took me 2 days to re-learn what i forgot about blueprints lol
@hoary trout Texture have 2k resolution usually ~2mb. Reduce to 1k and then you save more than 1mb.
Reducing textures is a great way to save space; especially if you're using assets with 4K textures.

there's generally an asset that has Error when cooking
Sometime, I hate unreal that it not smart enough to tell me where or what or why or by anything to cause error. Just said: "Cook error, cook failed" while it run well in editor and launcher...
you just need to look through the packaging log

One big problem is that our packaging excluded some assets for unknown reason.

Put in a last ditch effort to switch over from having all 5 fish species re-use the same color variations to having them all have unique color variations. It might sound like a small change but it honestly feels way better now. Got all my last minute changes pushed and I feel good about it

Now that I know how ridiculously simple Butler is I'll just use that for every jam. Set up a packaged project at the start of the jam during the Ideation phase and submit right away, and then just push updates every so often.

This jam I avoided pre-made assets, used a few textures from engine and starter (perlin noise, wavy normals) and one sound (fire crackling)

It's not "VR" or "XR" though, there's oculus mobile and WMR, but not oculus PC or Vive or the others

Guys, I need some help. I tried to use butler to upload the game to the itch.io page, but it wasn't working. I managed to use an external link to allocate the game because it has 3 GB of size, but the game does not appear on the submision page. Is there anything I can do or is it already gone?

solo you have full control
It's entirely reasonable to have a 15 minute discussion about whether a checkbox should be toggled on or off in a group setting. In a solo project, you pick whatever you feel like, takes a second.
If you are 2 soulmates it's quite enjoyable and lots of control too :D

Well 5 people is 5x more than 1 person
If you have good project management, it is a lot better to have more people

I feel bad, the game was done but super broken
But I jusssst timed out for the submission

We did BoxMovingCo... and had 16 seconds before the deadline
i was able to reupload like 10-5 secs before the deadline
So I'll just do some post-jam updates

I did VR for mine and found a really nasty build issue for quest around 4 hours before submitting
It kept failing to install
Looks like you have to clean out all the intermediate folders before building. Totally should have been my first guess.
Yeah I've shipped a bunch of pro stuff. I should have setup to do a fresh build before getting down to the wire

We've been expecting this jam approx the same month as the last year one. Been hoping to add much more to vr template after our first jam a month ago. And then this thing happens several months earlier than expected lol
They used to do multiple jams per year. Like every season almost until Covid

Anybody else that didn't finish? Dang. I only got about 2 and a half good days in on it and I think I needed about 2 and a half more. I will try to clear the slate better next time so I can be sure to finish, but this was my first attempt at a game jam and it was a lot of fun. Congrats to everybody who submitted and best of luck! (P.S. When's the next good game jam?)
Motivation for the first one was the urge to go through a full stack. Gained a ton of experience in the process, shipping vr can be tricky. Shipping a game can be tricky
Epic jam is just too epic to miss, it's a great challenge

It's also all about the excitement. Kind of like going to a party.
A lot of stuff outside the context of the crowd wouldn't make sense to do alone
Finished or not, if you learned something new, you got the point. If you finished and submitted, congrats. It’s a long hard process.
