I'd disagree that interspecies and habitat are less of a thing. You still have dangerous animals, viruses, bacteria, etc and some places are definitely better to live than others. People just don't generally move unless they have to (in the broader sense,) but they definitely choose places to live when leaving the nest and so on - that all affects reproduction chances.
Things are just more subtle now.
