The problem with traditional iron sights is you need to focus one eye on the back sight, front post, and the target (not really a thing that's doable). The problem with reflex sights are size and needing a battery (or bigger, heavier fiber light pipe collecting ambient light, which doesn't do well if you're in shade shooting into sunlit areas), this is kind of the best of both: head alignment doesn't matter critically and you can focus on it and the target because optically a see-all and a reflex sight both focus the reticle at infinity, and you don't need a battery (it's powered by ambient light) but since you're not looking for a dim reticle overlaid on a bright field, you're looking for dark on opaque dim, your eyes can handle it, and it's smaller and lighter, between irons and optics

you can get heavy duty military grade optics which are more rugged but they are still more fragile and when youre in the field that sort of problem can be an issue which is why its rare to find a gun without a fall back sight

seriously though, cubegrid is basically the only decent prototyping tool of its kind right now. Well, aside from using something like supergrid or one of the other prototype mesh libraries.
the rest of the mesh tools are... fine for minor tweaks. But have kind of shit usability overall because every single one implements things separately from every other one.
I use it quite a bit
The meshes themselves aren't anything special - they're just basic shapes - but the materials are useful as they scale correctly to avoid stretching the grid.

So if you ever use substance painter, and want to use the Auto unwrap feature, you need to FIRST load your model into substance painter, make the mesh maps, export the model, THEN rig it in 3ds max or blender, and import to unreal engine.... holy crap this took me 6 hours to understand..
