#

What part specifically?

fathom wadi

the part he linked in the t=

#

it broke on old versions

#

So that is basically a tweening engine?

frosty halo
#

I think it's quite a cool tool tho

#

UE already has this by default right?

fathom wadi
#

not specifically. Tweening is more than just interpolating A->B sometimes. You get some that group up and have relational tweening or action tweens

#

Inbetweening, also commonly known as tweening, is a process in animation that involves generating intermediate frames, called inbetweens, between two keyframes. The intended result is to create the illusion of movement by smoothly transitioning one image into another.

can't understand why he would take a discussion from the UE fb forum and twitter shame him like that. Personally I now think Kevin is a bit of a douche. No matter what the opinion Franklin has.

#

he even tagged it to get it broadcast. Thats a step away from bullying if you ask me

#

this is why Twitter isn't a place for me. I would have probably called him worse than a douche in a reply.

#

I just read the full thread on the fb forum. It was a point scoring competition. Flip-flopping arguments and test cases. There was no need for the rudeness at all. We are meant to be educating each other, so we can learn as a whole group and not just hide information like in the past. It seems counter-productive to resort to name calling and public shaming.

#

"Let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone", we all make mistakes and have opinions that don't match up with the facts. No shame in it. That's what the learning experience consists of in the first place. Inquisition.

quasi mantle
shell garden
#

pfft, who even needs detail

quasi mantle
#

The OG Unreal was supposed to be fantasy FPS (likely akin to Heretic/Hexen), and that's where the UnrealDragon envisioned very early on. Then the sci-fi stuff started to creep in, and thus Unreal as a series turned into full on sci-fi shooters. There's already little to no remnants of fantasy stuff in UT'99 .

If you look at the old screenshots and early builds of Unreal from late '95 / early '96, there was a dragon entity existed.

#

But the UnrealDragon lives on, and thus carried over as a reference to the early roots, even in UE5.

fathom wadi
#

the unlimited detail thing was a voxel engine so its kinda the same but not the same if that makes sense.

#

does UE still have the Apple for navigation paths or was that entirely removed in favour of navmesh?

quasi mantle
#

"So yeah we have this cool unlimited detail thing going on, but only select few parties can access it. For everyone else, just take our words for it lmao."

fathom wadi
#

it was a nice demo tho. Zooming right into the dirt was like playing with the visual effects for Honey I Shrunk The Kids

quasi mantle
#

At least Nanite make it a reality - in a sense that your average chap can access it without paperworks behind closed doors.

pearl elk
#

I kinda get where that guy is coming from but Nanite is definitely a step up

shell garden
quasi mantle
#

Unlimited Detail tech only appears to be big mouth blabbering to the public due to the lack of public access and publicly visible adoption, and thus didn't gain much traction and raise scepticism instead.
Meanwhile Nanite? Epic preseted it in a manner that makes sense, and given low entry barrier with UE4, the general public can rest easy knowing that they can try Nanite in their own, and see the adoption in the future.

fathom wadi
#

as long as you only use it on static meshes that is 😄

pearl elk
#

Im sure the limitations of Nanite will be resolved to some degree as the tech gets more mature

modern minnow
#

fathom wadi
#

#

that lumen stream the other day definitely helped understand it's still not 100% too. So I kind of have to laugh when I see people converting their game to UE5. It's like using a broken shovel to carry coal. You can carry some of it

pearl elk
#

People are always looking for a silver bullet

fathom wadi
#

I'd take a rusty bullet right now. Breaking out in hives and it's driving me nuts.

pearl elk
#

its surprisingly stable for early access tbh

#

I did have to jump in on the Chaos bashing though, everyone is acting like Epic is pulling the rug from under them on Physx

quasi mantle
fathom wadi
#

chaos impressed me but I'm not doing anything with it that would require a physicist's eye for detail. I just break stuff with it

quasi mantle
#

Though the next Im@s game uses Unreal Engine 4, out of curiousity 👀

fathom wadi
#

no reason to avoid using it, but converting projects seems like a waste of time better spent on making it work with UE4. Unless the project was started with UE5 in mind and they were waiting for Lumen. But then they will have had the "Lighting must be rebuilt" message up for some time 😄

quasi mantle
fathom wadi
#

nothing says you have to use lumen in ue5 anyway. Its still got raytracing and baked lighting

quasi mantle
fathom wadi
#

yeah thats some boss tech. Still doesn't work tho

#

the stream next week will cover what works and what doesn't though. Don't miss it 🙂

quasi mantle
#

Though my current solution with World Composition is trying to "decouple" the camera from the streaming position.
As of right now, World Composition is super tied to the active camera position, so scripted quick long distance switch is still cause popins because the level streaming is being late.

fathom wadi
#

I use a custom setup for world comp that doesn't preload the levels in the standard way. I do it on the fly in small chunks instead. Almost like the mentality behind world partition but without the nanite tech helping it out. Where they can traverse pixel groups, mind does smaller sub levels instead.

But those games are so poorly optimised the FPS cap is all in software

#

thing is by the time these things are worth buying we're already talking 2-3 generations of hardware ahead

#

so for example, the buzz is all nanites and lumens now but in 6 years when those games are actually done being made it'll just look stock

#

it happened with previous Playstations as well, I remember when PS2 launched there was bugger all to play on it

#

2-3 years later you get a nice little catalog but issue is now there is a focus on remastering content so they try to use that to fill the gap

#

but that gaps gotten so large, we're not really seeing many games use modern hardware at all, its more of just plugging a turbo into a prius instead of releasing a tesla

#

a good example is the God of War announcement that it'll support PS4, I know what people are upset cuz the first game is full of loading doors and the PS5 doesnt really have that limitation but you still cant build around that new tech because you have to support the lowest common denominator. carmine frigate

i never bothered to look up what it was all about

muted oracle
#

as of now it doesnt actually support light sources

#

only light emitting objects

#

cuz its directly following the paths photons take

carmine frigate
#

ahh we dont support roblox questions here tho

#

most of us dont know shit about that

muted oracle
#

yea just demonstrating some tech im working on

#

actually possible now since roblox added support for multithreading

working on denoising algorithms of course

#

yea, it kinda follows the same principle as cycles

#

follow the path that light takes to reach the pixel

carmine frigate

i might be impressed if i had any idea what u are talking about

but i dont 😦

muted oracle

basically making a realistic rendering engine within roblox

pearl elk

looks like it needs some serious denoising

shell garden
#

mememan 📈 pity the foo

light spruce
#

I'd probably be impressed too.. if I knew jack shit about Roblox

#

@muted oracle (side note, I'll read your name as voonder voollluf) Is that the actual render output and none of the ... original render is there?

muted oracle
#

thats pure path tracing done entirely manually

#

i had to make a separate color class to support HDR colors

#

and raycasting already provided so that part was easy

light spruce
#

Basically, since I don't know anything about this setup... I don't know where this is in the render pipeline

muted oracle
#

there is no render pipeline actually

#

you cant do anything with shaders or the GPU, roblox doesnt allow it

light spruce
#

well.. there has to be something because you have output

muted oracle
#

i just made some pixels and colored them

shell garden
#

it's actually a render series of tubes instead

muted oracle
#

little parts in this case

#

so its like people making rubix cubes art

#

or minecraft image art

#

its 3d objects colored as pixels

#

cuz their 2D UI pipeline is actually laggier for some reason

light spruce
#

Oh .. so it's... all that's a bunch of objects in 3D space to create the appearance of light bounces

muted oracle
#

no

#

i am doing path tracing manually

#

everything is completely virtual

#

the only physical thing is when i create the 3d pixels

#

but those are just displaying the screen stored in memory

#

the screen i rendered/rasterized with path tracing

light spruce
#

Yeah.. I'm now more confused than when I started

shell garden
light spruce
#

I think this is the "I don't know anything about roblox" part of the problem

muted oracle
#

tl;dr i made my own multithreaded cpu based rendering engine, and its drawing to a screen made of 3d pixel bricks

shell garden
#

like dlss v1, you have to send each frame off to @muted oracle for processing, and you get the rendered image back in 6-8 weeks

#

pay extra for express shipping

regal pecan
#

Write path tracer in roblox scripting language, output by creating colored blocks.

light spruce
#

probably still looks better

regal pecan
#

Geometry is stored as... ?

muted oracle
#

roblox Parts

#

aka just generic primitives like cuboids and spheres

regal pecan
#

And roblox lets you raycast roblox parts. Interesting. Now I want to look if somene's made doom in it.

muted oracle
#

roblox is good with instancing so once the full screen is drawn i get back to good fps

light spruce
#

So... the geometry isn't real ... but you're rendering a scene to a virtual screen made of cubes?

muted oracle
shell garden
#

nvidia dlss v1: send rendered images in to nvidia hq "for analysis", receive a jar of vaseline in return

muted oracle
#

because in real life theres a near infinite amount of photons travelling from everywhere into a specific point of a camera or eye

#

so this is an estimation of that

#

and draws the result to the screen

#

all of those images were created with only one light emitting object

#

so the interior was lit purely with indirect lighting

#

aka light bouncing around the room and landing on a light source or recieving light from other objects

#

similar to how it works in real life

light spruce
#

I'd probably say "innumerable" but, yeah I get that idea. The whole thing I was trying to get to involved the denoise part... because I thought if you had a separate scene that you were rendering, you could basically do a blend rather than trying to straight up denoise some final output because you'll always get weird shit with edges

muted oracle
#

the denoising is just done on the final image but I’m using a pretty basic algorithm

#

so its not perfect

light spruce
#

It never is

muted oracle
#

plus I’m using very rough objects

#

meaning when light hits it, it scatters in several directions

#

with smoother objects the reflections are more precise

#

because if you look at a mirror the light reflects basically in one direction

light spruce
#

That's why PBR (PABST BLUE RIBBON LET'S ALL RIDE FIXIES) materials became such a big deal

muted oracle
#

as opposed to a foggy mirror, spreading when it reflects

light spruce
#

angle of incidence

#

I'm pretty sure I saw that guy in ... wait one

muted oracle
#

one of the problems though is

#

lighting scenes is very difficult when you have no direct lighting

#

the only kind of lights that exist are light emitting objects, no directionals, etc

#

but as a pro, ANYTHING can emit light

#

so if i shine a flashlight in a mirror, that light can be reflected toward another object like in real life

shell garden
#

yah anything glows if you heat it enough

light spruce
#

Yeah.. he was in Burn Notice... and it was super weird seeing him be kinda panicky as opposed to being the hard motherfucker he is in Dexter

shell garden
#

the internet is a series of youtubes invented by albert goreandviscera

light spruce
#

I understand the principles of what you're doing and everything... I just don't know enough about the actual implementation within your "engine" so to speak.

muted oracle
#

the implementation is too complex for me to explain

regal pecan
#

I'm impressed it doesn't have the "sparklies" problem from cycles.

muted oracle
#

because I’m literally following the path of the photons of light

#

and computing how they are absorbed and reflected by materials and the environment

shell garden
#

so you're raytracing

muted oracle
#

path tracing*

shell garden
#

raypathing

muted oracle
#

path tracing cuz I’m following the light paths

light spruce
#

@zinc matrix Also, let me be real with you a sec. It should be readily apparent that I'm a misanthrope and I do not like most people. You, however, managed to trip the relevance flag and therefore are "all right in my book." But this ! shit is unnecessarily upsetting and I am a very fragile person and therefore am concerned that I could burst into flames at any point and blame it on you.

shell garden
muted oracle
#

yea i didnt use any transparent objects

#

right now I’m not handling them

#

i have yet to deal with refraction and fresnel

shell garden
#

so you're not even raypathing

regal pecan
#

I noticed cycles and sparklies tend to be related to diffuse bounces. Not sure what that's about.

light spruce
#

Something I was about to point out.. so... ahead of me on that front

#

Since a translucent material usually isn't just a one-sided plane....

muted oracle
#

im still using path tracing algorithms

#

but i havent implemented translucency yet

#

the main reason why i typically don’t do refraction is because roblox makes it difficult

#

its not easy to do inner reflection or refraction in roblox

light spruce
#

So, to do it right, you'd need to take into account the object depth... not have backface culling or... some kinda shit since I'm just musing generally at this point

muted oracle
#

cuz the raycasting hits the objeect if its in the object not if it hits the surface of the object

light spruce
#

You mean like people that did it and it should have been the key to smash that block button, but I waited until undisclosed (but easily determinable) person did something about 12 times as stupid before ripcording that shit?

#

ProTip: just say "yes" even if you don't know what the hell I'm talking about

real palm
#

or I could not

muted oracle
#

the main issues is due to the limitations of the raycast function i have

#

all it does is hit an object if its inside the object, and give me the material

real palm
regal pecan
#

Denoiser most likely hides it, not fixes it. I noticed in one case the 'sparklies' were actually a perfect (and very bright) diffuse reflection that was so unlikely to be raytraced that it wasn't apparent as a shape until the sample count was in the thousands.

shell garden
#

honestly the real solution here is quantum computing

muted oracle
#

so i cant do stuff like backface culling or inner reflection

shell garden
#

port your roblox pathtracer to quantum cpus

muted oracle
#

the smoother the surface, the more precise the light reflection direction

#

so if some rays hit the light source then they would “sparkle”

light spruce
#

Denoising something is basically exactly that. It's really kind of a hack

muted oracle
#

increasing sample count or denoising amount will make it go away

#

also yea but its required

light spruce
#

It's a resolution problem

muted oracle
#

its more efficient to run a denoising algorithm than to render 100x as many samples per pixel

#

because photons are supposed to be “random”

light spruce
#

Absolutely. It wasn't me saying "that's fucking dumb"

muted oracle
#

theres no way to tell exactly how light reflects against a surface

light spruce
#

I guess I could have called it a "kludge" perhaps

muted oracle
#

nor to get every single combination of light that bounced off the surface in that direction

#

rendering is always an estimation of the path light rays take

shell garden
#

ok how about this for an algorithm then

#

build the objects in real life, then take photos of them

soft night
#

there is raytracing tutorial

muted oracle
#

its like
lim (renderPixel(density))
density -> ♾️

light spruce
#

It's safe to assume that most of you weren't in existence when my modeling mantra was "lie, cheat, and steal"... because you had such a limited budget to work with.. budgets really. Polygons, textures, everything. So you did whatever you could to get the effect... and the actual physical geometry or anything else didn't matter.

regal pecan
#

Makes me think of penumbra wedges, the "I'm going to count every triangle by hand" solution to occlusion.

muted oracle
#

the rendering equation in its most basic form

#

density being the photon density

light spruce
#

I'm wondering if patches is just like.. a more aggressive version of Mons

muted oracle
#

soon i will add branching

#

will need less samples to compute with less noise but branches are expensive

shell garden
#

i'm actually thinking this is an interesting problem: is it theoretically possible for a computer to 100% accurately simulate the movement of light in an arbitrary space in real time?

muted oracle
#

in realtime, no

#

the problem is that photons are uncountable

#

u cant look and measure in a single 3d point how much light there is and what wavelength it is

#

and how much energy each photon has

#

theres too many

#

we don’t even know if photons are particles or just waves

shell garden
#

as if that means anything anyway. electrons aren't technically particles either 😛

muted oracle
#

the most accurate thing you can do is to just use a camera in real life

#

but cameras have noise sometimes too

shell garden
#

so the question really is, how close is "good enough" for your simulation?

muted oracle
#

theres just way too much to compute

muted oracle
#

a balance on some imaginary fulcrum between:

light spruce
#

The question is irrelevant, because the process is the point.

regal pecan
#

If you don't know how to accurately simulate the movement of light, you can't speculate on if a computer could do it... unless you assume the universe is already a simulation.

muted oracle
#
  1. render time
  2. sample count
  3. branches
  4. light bounces
  5. image resolution
  6. denoiser algorithm
#

if it takes an hour to render the image but it looks like garbage

light spruce
#

The universe already is most likely a simulation.. however, that doesn't in any way imply the ability to accurately or even adequately simulate the simulation.

muted oracle
#

i have a very noisy image in my renders for example

#

even with denoising and 128 samples per pixel

#

but its still authentic looking

#

cuz the light transport is pretty accurate

shell garden
light spruce
#

You will always be subject to the constraints of the simulation unless you find a way to exploit it and thus break out of its constraints... therefore, in any realm, whether it's accurate rendering, developing superpowers, or considering if your life has meaning... it's all completely irrelevant.

muted oracle
#

plus u cant render at an infinite resolution

#

for example ♾️ x ♾️

#

so it will always be an estimation

shell garden
muted oracle
#

regardless of your resolution, sample count, whatever

#

and thats the problem

#

the rendering problem has no solution

pearl elk
#

ray tracing in this simulation is really well implemented

muted oracle
#

you can only estimate

pearl elk
#

so is chaos

shell garden
#

P=NP

#

problem solved

muted oracle
pearl elk
#

Problem=No Problem

muted oracle
#

lol

light spruce
#

@shell garden I'll be straight-forward with you. At any given moment, I can't quite figure out if I would throw you off a building or not. Because sometimes, you're just taking the piss, which is fine. Other times, you seem a bit more vengeful than that.

muted oracle
#

but yea regardless of the noise this is still an amazing quality image

#

cuz the light seems to behave realistically

#

bouncing all over the room and diffusing

#

the shadows are created naturally

shell garden
muted oracle
#

based on if there is any light actually bouncing onto the object at that point

shell garden
pearl elk
#

looks to me like a heap of light bleeding and a completely fake light source

muted oracle
#

there is no light sources really in my engine

#

its just light bouncing around

#

and if an object happens to be bright, it shares its light with its neighbors

#

there is only one "light source" in that image

#

and its a big glowing ball

#

the rest of the light is indirect and diffusing throughout the room

shell garden
#

ok so it's the same concept as emmissive objects in lumen

pearl elk
#

well thats not really realistic because light doesnt just materialise its a byproduct of a chemical reaction

muted oracle
#

i mean

#

my simulation literally takes place in a void

#

with the only light coming from something bright enough

shell garden
#

i'm still wondering what the "impossible to explain" part of this is

muted oracle
#

if there is nothing bright enough nothing will be lit

#

but if say i add a flashlight into the scene

#

it "emits" light

#

because its very bright

pearl elk
#

the type of light matters alot as there are wavelengths of the spectrum we cant see yet it still has an impact

muted oracle
#

and that light will be distributed throughout the scene

light spruce
#

Well. That definitely tipped the scales into, "Yep. I hate you." territory.

fathom wadi
#

Light is really just optimistic darkness.

muted oracle
#

i will render a simple example with lots of noise

pearl elk
#

none of us have actually seen darkness

muted oracle
#

of a scene with only a flashlight and a mirror

pearl elk
#

we have seen various shades of lightness 😛

fathom wadi
#

I rendered a scene the other day with lots of noise and the neighbours complained.

light spruce
#

The one thing about light... it's impossible to destroy with darkness

#

Photons can't be killed.

pearl elk
#

Oh I totally have and did the whole 50 shades

#

but no black cuz theres no coming back from that

shell garden
#

photons are IMMORTAL

light spruce
#

well, yeah.. once you go black, you go deaf

pearl elk
#

you guys seem to forgotten about black holes

#

they have enough mass to pull in photons

regal pecan
#

The inside of black holes is a big rave.

shell garden
#

still doesn't kill them, just traps them

light spruce
#

Black holes crush things in the singularity and eventually vomit all the components back out

muted oracle

plus human bodies emit wavelengths of light

that's what automatically makes it better

would you rather it be a jason statham/vin diesel movie?

light spruce

Only if it's about family

shell garden

well yeah, donkey kong country is about family

all the family members from dk64

#

All I have to say about Nintendo properties outside of video games.. if you can't appreciate Bob Hoskins's inability to perform a Bronx accent... or the part where John Leguizamo portrays his brother, Luigi .... I can't help you.

shell garden
#

bob hoskins was a treasure, RIP

#

extremely underrated actor, and brought exactly what was needed to mario

#

if it was made today, we'd have chris pratt as mario, and maybe joseph gordon-levitt as luigi

fathom wadi
#

he wasn't really underrated in the UK though. Ever since The Long Good Friday he was considered one of the best.

light spruce
#

Fisher Stevens was in that? Jesus. Things I remember: Goombas dancing in an elevator. Bob-ombs as a badly painted wind-up toy. The big metallic boots. The setup for a sequel at the end... when the video game franchise itself couldn't do its own sequel right on a worldwide stage

shell garden
#

dEnNiS hOpPeR

#

bob hoskins absolutely fucking CARRIED hook, and that's a movie with robin williams AND dustin motherfucking hoffman

light spruce
#

It was the 90s. Dennis Hopper was in a competition to be in as many things as Chris Cox

#

er

#

Brian Cox

shell garden

brian chris

light spruce

your mother

shell garden
#

and of course who framed roger rabbit couldn't have been made with anyone else as eddie valiant

light spruce
#

It probably could have been

shell garden
#

NO

#

it wouldn't have been a success

light spruce
#

I don't have any particular feelings overall towards Hoskins

shell garden
#

he brought a perfect blend of deadpan and comedic timing to the role

light spruce
#

I mean, John Leguizamo is solid, as far as I'm concerned... but that doesn't mean that film wasn't a thing that didn't need to exist

shell garden
#

and costarred with goddamn cartoon characters. even with rotoscoping over live actors, there aren't many actors of the age who could have pulled that off so convincingly

light spruce
#

I've had a lot of sleep, drugs, and alcohol since then. So I don't want to take any hard stance there. But I can say, without reservation, that your perception of a role is absolutely always colored by the actor who actually is in it.

#

See also: Indiana Jones... where people couldn't imagine Tom Selleck in that role, in spite of him being a great actor.

#

And that also being a great example of why doing the right thing is what gets you totally shafted

shell garden
#

pfft

#

there's nothing special about indiana jones

shell garden
tulip orbit
shell garden
#

sean connery isn't just a terrible person, he was also a terrible bond

#

roger moore did a great job, but for bond actors that took the role and movies seriously, daniel craig has been the best so far

#

completely different world of quality to pierce brosnan, timothy dalton, and gross mcpunchface

#

the only good sean connery role was adrian edmundson quoting michael caine in bottom

#

"i can't go to the window. people might confuse me for sean connery. 'don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes, lads' "

fathom wadi
#

lol

shell garden
#

and of course the other thing harrison ford is best known for, han solo ... star wars might have been a good movie if it had actual actors in it 🙃

#

alec guiness phoning it the fuck in, being so relieved when obi wan got killed off and he didn't have to be on set anymore

#

only actors on set who both took it super seriously and were any good were david prouse and carrie fisher

#

peter cushing doesn't count because he was wasted in such a badly miscast role

#

and was probably also wasted on booze the whole time 🍺

light spruce
#

Yeah, well, I guess it's a great thing that Daniel Craig was only in one Bond film that was both memorable and worth seeing

shell garden
#

casino of solace?

light spruce
#

yeah, sure

shell garden
#

spocktre?

light spruce
#

Surprised you didn't work a "layer" or "cake" in that title

shell garden
#

asterix and the skyfalling?

light spruce
#

And not every film that Alec Guiness was in needed to involve a fucking bridge

shell garden
#

"obi wan never told you about the bridges"

#

i like ewen mcgregor but i didn't like him as obi wan

#

not that i liked the prequel movies at all

#

i went to see attack of the clones based on "it can't possibly be as bad as phantom menace"

#

and have still never seen revenge of the sith because "welp now i've been burnt twice by these movies"

light spruce
#

If you ever want to see a man who has had his soul ripped from his body and thrown into an abyss... Jake Lloyd

shell garden
#

yyyyyyyyyyyup

#

poor kid

#

i mean, he was cast badly in the first place

#

but the script wasn't his fault

light spruce
#

You know that film you were cast in when you were a kid?

#

Fuck you, you personally ruined everything that I based my entire life around

#

I've seen a lot of broken people... and I remember some.. I guess.. amateur interview where he was like... watching a college basketball game or something?

#

And he just seemed like he'd excuse himself to go hit the head and then put a gun in his mouth except he didn't care enough to

shell garden
#

yah

#

like if anyone remade full metal jacket, jake lloyd would be the cadet pushed too far in the first half

light spruce
#

I hope he's doing a lot better these days.

#

I never need a mirror of how dead inside I am

shell garden
#

wow, capcom arcade stadium is ported to pc about as well as a capcom game's story is written

#

i mean it works, but it's stupid and broken

#

both works and broken at the same time 👍

Saw one for CP too

light spruce
#

Cyberpunk has a lot of good stuff going for it

#

If you can't see the good stuff in it you're a chickenshit

fathom wadi
#

the interesting thing about CP2077 is on PC it was actually pretty stable for an open world game. I had one crash and one physics bug during my playthrough. But the amount I saw on ps4 was plentiful. Crashed a few times in 3 playthroughs for my wife, and it ran sub-30fps a lot of the time.

shell garden
light spruce
#

The one thing I can be thankful for... is that sometimes people remind me that I'm not as bad as I could be

shell garden
#

I'm gonna make my own GTA clone, with blackjack, and hookers ... Oh wait

light spruce
#

I can't imagine trying to play it on a PS4

fathom wadi
#

it also looked stupid good on pc

light spruce
#

Then again... there are people who will play a Bethesda game on a console

shell garden
light spruce
#

And I'm like... forget "mods" ... you're just setting yourself up to not have people fix the shit that they won't

#

Not that that should ever be some random group's responsibility, mind you

shell garden
#

Some day, if I ever have either the skills and motivation, or the money and resources/team, I want to make a Saints Row 2-type game

light spruce
#

Cyberpunk 2077 did a lot of things right

#

They missed the mark on plenty of things and absolutely didn't live up to the hype (though that's always impossible)

shell garden
#

Open world GTA-like with a major focus on customising characters, but with sexy modern graphics and online play

fathom wadi
#

its got replayability which is important for such a game too

#

been meaning to a run of melee only

light spruce
#

If you do ... wait one

shell garden
#

Cyberpunk lets you select your shlong size, but do you also get to choose your socks colour?

fathom wadi
#

why so?

light spruce
#

You definitely want that

fathom wadi
#

ahh nice

shell garden
#

Hah, ladders

light spruce
#

I did a melee run before that mod was a thing.. which meant that I couldn't use katanas

#

Because the finisher animation would break you out of the Sandevistan time dilation

shell garden
#

Cyberpunk engine struggles more with ladders than Wolfenstein 3D engine did :P

quasi mantle
#

People already starting full blown game production with Unreal Engine 5 Early Access in the job board MeguHuh

light spruce
#

So I had to always use long blades, of which there are no iconics

quasi mantle
light spruce
#

It was an annoyance... but I definitely didn't run into an issue murdering absolutely everyone though

shell garden
light spruce
#

Knives, on the other hand... are abject garbage

#

@fathom wadi There are actually a pretty good number of just ... quality of life mods for Cyberpunk... most of the mods are cosmetic though, sadly

shell garden

Cyberpunk 2077 chaos mod is called playing it on PS4

#

All the bugs, all the time

fathom wadi
#

im not usually one for modding games until I've ran them to death, but if the melee fixes things that are still broken I'll definitely add it in

light spruce
#

Yeah, I didn't mod anything on my first run at all.. though my first run of a game like that is usually ... "do whatever I feel like"

shell garden
#

Maybe the problem with CDProjekt is they haven't upgraded to BluRayProjekt spinning_think

light spruce
#

I'm not looking to do some specific build

#

My last run, I was doing a bunch of weird takedown shit instead... and it kinda went off the rails

muted oracle
shell garden

Lol @ laptop gaming

fathom wadi

ive not got raytracing skills on my card but it looks fine without it imo

muted oracle

fun to play at times but otherwise meh

light spruce

From what I've seen of the raytracing..

muted oracle
#

its pretty good ill show some photo mode pics

light spruce
#

it's... a tossup

#

It looks good in some cases... and like shit in some others

quasi mantle
#

Cyberpunk 2077 should be ported to the Switch, just because.

shell garden
#

I started playing Control and I can see the value of raytracing for it

light spruce
#

That melee mod does have some options that let you tweak a few things

shell garden
#

I spent 2 minutes trying to walk through a window because I only have a 1070 🙃

light spruce
#

Like it's optional if the time dilation stuff lets you use melee faster or not

muted oracle
#

i should take some photos in the city square

light spruce
#

My biggest thing about it was the execution animations breaking slow motion

shell garden
#

Is that paint job meant to look like that?

light spruce
#

Yes

muted oracle
#

whats wrong with it

light spruce
#

Actually one of the best cars in the game, oddly enough

shell garden
#

It looks like a clipping fail

muted oracle
light spruce
#

Well that's probably because you don't understand the concepts of things like "stripes" or "design"

muted oracle
#

not the batmobile knockoff

#

the one called coyote or something

light spruce
#

The Shio.. yep

muted oracle
#

i use mods when i play cyberpunk cuz its really fun

#

u can teleport to cutscene locations and find some weird stuff

light spruce
#

Except that it's dogshit at offroad in spite of being a "nomad" type setup

muted oracle
#

only problem is even though cyberpunk is open world most of the cutscene areas are special and arent loaded in all the time as part of the map

light spruce
#

I love the design of it.. but it's way too low to the ground for what it's supposed to be for.... on tarmac... it's a high speed RC car

muted oracle
#

and i dont know how to trigger them with console or game methods

light spruce
#

At least some of the areas are hidden around the map

muted oracle
#

yea and theres even an unused underground getaway that i documented

light spruce
#

Some of them... are effectively instanced in that they only show up with certain flags

muted oracle
#

^

light spruce
#

Man

muted oracle
#

i have this mod that exposes the cyberpunk methods to a lua console you can open in game

light spruce
#

I tried SUPER fucking hard to break that game

muted oracle
#

but i cant figure out how to enable them

light spruce
#

It only breaks when it wants to
