I had depression history. The climax was in 2019, and it halted all of my creative endeavours.

Unfortunately I don't think mine is going away ever. Do you have any tips for keeping up development? I crash hard and end up restarting everything.

It took me almost a year to recover from that depression climax. Have even considered suicide but thankfully talked to close friends I know from my hobby circle who are willing to listen and support me mentally before it got out of control.

A takeaway I could give is: talk to buddies you can trust, tell them about what you feel. They don't have to reply with solution, they just have to listen wholeheartedly. Don't forget to appreciate their willingness to listen to you. Self distraction can also help at times, but don't force self-reassurance. And consider planning therapies to psychologists as the last resort.

It might seem counter-intuitive on paper, but by having psychological therapies as last resort, you can save a lot more in many things.

Two, three things come to mind:

1. Inspire yourself. Watch a movie, read a book, play a game, walk outside and whatever else you know.
2. Put in front of you very small, achievable tasks. Ones you can check out in a day or two or so. Important is to see the progress of your work.
3. Most hard - just sit/start do something. Can be awful to overcome this, but sitting and just tackling something will suck you in with time.

The scenario was we were captured, taken to a holding area for a couple of days. The usual stuff went on there, then we were rescued or something which started the second phase of the evasion. We had one guy swear that an officer came up asking for a smoke, and when offered took one from the pack went to put it in his mouth which then opened from ear to ear with the top of his head flipping backwards. Needless to say the lad in question bricked himself.

@quasi mantle AAA games are all about appearances but a lot of them are smoke and mirror games, pure graphical deceit when gameplay should be king. That's why indie games always hold respect, because they have to beat marketing money with actual gameplay and make people want to play them. Where your standard AAA games don't even show you gameplay in the trailers anymore. Or in Ubisoft's case, often they show a higher level representation than you will ever see at release.
In a saturated world where everyone is cloning each other and chasing trends, sometimes you just have to shout the loudest to get the money in the moment. Often that can be more of a success than the actual game.

It's a lot harder to do kissing scene with 3D anime models compared to drawing it by hand. There's always clipping issue, which 2D drawing could defy effortlessly, but not with real time 3D meshes.

I think after making my own alternative I've found ALS to be kinda excessive in some aspects

This is how the run state is for me

Kinda similar to the ALS graph but still decently far

I set a direction enum based on what the yaw is and go from there

Apply a root bone offset depending on the direction enum and that makes it look good enough on a diagonal

Probs makes it cleaner but I personally like having things on the same graph when possible

Though making such a system myself was more interesting than the final result

I use different blend spaces each time so dunno how viable it is

Blend spaces for going up/down a ramp or the character having inertia when you rotate

When each is its own animation, it's tough

If you could make overrideable animation functions, that'd be nice

Probs makes sense there, the Paragon assets I'm using have just 1 animation for each case

E.g. going up, swiveling right on a turn

Random sequence player can probs make good work of that but the graph will become a lot more complex

Either way

I'm kinda just on the way of making everything myself

At least in terms of functionality

The map I'm using should be a familiar layout to old-schoolers

The game was absolutely cursed if you look at it from a game design standpoint

There was not one thing that was perfect in the game

The kits were cursed designs that came down to perma inbalance, the map didn't have much of the verticality that the game flaunted, the item system made a progression similar in time dedication to MMOs

And the worst part now is that there's 3 versions of it (4 if you count mine)

I made sure of that because it annoyed me for months developing the mechanics

And once I was done with fundamentals I just made a universal animation BP for all the characters, since they were pretty standardised

The hardest part is making new footstep notifies because the notifies in the animations just aren't exposed

So you'd see them, but they cause no events in the anim BP

5 animations per cardinal direction times at least 2 footsteps, that's at least 100 notifies you have to place manually

Maybe there is and maybe I should look at it

I simply Oogled a bunch until I decided to just readd my own notifies

I mean

My footsteps are in the anim BP itself

At least the logic for it

Mostly because I'd like to customize a few parameters like whether the character is armored

And so on

What do you mean? meshes will perform faster than tesselation, you can generate on level startup to reduce package sizes. You can generate low-res meshes for distances. If anything it seems it'd add a lot of performance options

Yeah, I mean I thought VR was going to be gimmicky, but was surprised how immersive it is. I might go so far it might be very disruptive to other forms of entertainment. Watch movies and sport when you basically have your own holodeck? 🙂 It's a bit early though. The true VR renaissance is probably at least two years away. Graphics cards need to catch up, foveated rendering etc. But then all bets are off

I was not prepared for the feels playing Elite Dangerous in VR for the first time. From crappy vector graphics to a simulated virtual universe. But, it's just a little bit too cumbersome to play vr games right now

Just to say it out loud: I'm going to make the Character Interaction Assets work with GAS. Picking up stuff, item/weapon swapping, shooting, melee, dialogue, etc.

I spent 10 months last year with burnout. On the 1st of January I put my foot down and said "No more". So I picked up Blender and started making art.
I highly recommend not rushing into complicated setups at first. You are setting yourself up for the fall. Ease yourself in with something you can see quickly. Like a piece of artwork, or a small function. Build on that. Keep the momentum but as soon as you feel like you are hitting a wall, take a break and do something else. Don't force it. You will make yourself worse.

I would think that is a bit late in the day to make as the Vampire Masquerade game is most of the way through development currently. So it would be difficult to counter market. I know it's a different style of game and I know nothing of the mechanics except it's an ARPG, however I feel like it's going to get ignored in favour of the actual Vampire game release.

I love the atmosphere. The new game looks like it missed all the things I loved about it. It's dark and realistic. Serious and polished. Corporate and slick. No personal vision. Nothing to say. Their vampires mean nothing except they are yet more superhumans in a market full of them.
