I used to watch Disney cartoons in the very early 90s and into the early 2000s. I saw the art style change, but it remained 2D for the most part.

It's weird to see the 3D anime style standing right next to mickey mouse, with mickey mouse himself 3D-ed.

But, kudos to Disney for doing that. I imagine it's a LOT easier on the animators compared to how they did it in the days of yore.

I think AMD is headed in the direction of combining the CPU and GPU into one package.

I think one or more of their CPUs already has the iGPU power of a gtx 970m - my current GPU.

You can play 1080p games on it quite well - 45FPS or so. It's a start.

HOkkkaaay! So, the card is running, fans are working, everything is good, the system detects the eGPU, BUT it's not recognising the 4060ti as a GPU. Now, it may be because I don't have a separate monitor plugged in to it, but I can now spend the next few hours figuring out if it's something else. 😄

Of course, Win 11 tells me that the Thunderbolt functionality might be limited - which is like a wide-rangingly possible set of problems, or maybe no problem at all. 🤮

Also, I ordered a pizza.

🤔 This might just be me being hyper-optimistic. If my internal discrete GPU is already plugged in to the display, I guess the eGPU wouldn't be able to override that hardwire connection with just software.

1. Research if there are existing "virtual wind tunnel" (ie, air drag fluid solvers) that i can use as a reference as "realistic" sim results (but i expect to find like, paid 3dsmax plugins, or command line tools for researchers--and useless to me).
2. Go back to the project borealis paper which describes an approach that processes triangles, rather than pixels. It includes an approximation to account for the uh .. well air compression / drag along surface beyond leading edge.

well again it will be fine. It's a physics system with 64bit accuracy. As long as you setup the assets and everything correctly in terms of physics assets, mass, etc. You will get pretty accurate results. But it's down to you and your implementation rather than the physics calcs.

So, im aware niagara has pressure solvers for 3D gas in a 3D grid. And that it can consider separate meshes/surfaces as blockers or w/e terminology it uses. But, i need the forces imparted on that mesh (convex shape, rigid body).

the constraints will allow forces to affect joints and parts, but surface tension in terms of aerodynamics might need a separate method to visualise the value but it should be working under the hood. I'm not sure if that comes up on the physics forces graph or not tbh. It might.

it might be, that for purpose, Unreal isn't exactly what you need for a sim. There are caveats to sim work in Unreal in terms of how interactive to performance the whole system is. So artifacts in the data will occur. But you have to filter them by what you know about the app and expectations of results.

Well, it's been an exhausting troubleshooting couple of days. 🙂 My laptop refuses to acknowledge that the Thunderbolt 'controller' exists, or simply doesn't install one with the thunderbolt software. I tried it in both Win 11 and Win 10. I'll have to keep my eGPU, new GPU, and super cool monitor (when it arrives) in storage for now. Either I find a way to make this laptop recognise its own thunderbolt 3 controller, or I buy a new mobo and blah blah later. 😄

For now, I need to rest.

Well, that's weird. 🤔 The last time I made a system restore point, it didn't back the cumulative update up. With the current restore point, however, Win 11 did back it up.

No, there is no solution for this that allows you to use both a structure and TSoftObjectPtr because TSoftObjectPtr is specifically designed for use with UCLASS’s which must be derived from UObject.

I think it was put best regarding Borderlands when said "It is a niche movie based on a niche game". Most of the people complaining haven't played the game. They just saw the boxart. I am willing to bet that there are fans of the game who understand the references as it's going to be all about understanding them to enjoy the movie properly. Same with Deadpool 3. It's not a great movie, but it has so many references for nostalgia, and a generic brand of crude humour that Ryan Reynolds produces, that it was popular based on either real nostalgia or inferred nostalgia. Borderlands will be the same. I'm gonna watch it and likely enjoy it about as much as any bubblegum movie

But now we demand more from our development of characters and such so it's hard to not expect more from a 90-120min movie

it also depends on if you're interested in the language, or just using it in unreal

just unreal, do up to chapter 28, then play around and look at unreal source code.

if you're interested in the language itself, make some console apps. once you're familiar with the fundamentals, try play with some frameworks like SFML or SDL. Then move onto things like OpenGL or DirectX if graphics programming or engine making is your jam. You've got things like ImGui if you want to make little personal apps. Things like Walnut or Qt for other apps.
If Windows dev interests you, then play around with that, and try to make things with gdi32.dll and kernel32.dll, etc.

lots of avenues for the latter, obviously.

(Personally I wouldn't bother with apps in C++ or windows dev, both aren't fun, if you want apps, look to something like Avalonia, MAUI, WPF, Winforms, etc if you like .NET, or things like React Native etc if you like html, css, and js/ts)

I want to see if anyone else has ever encountered what I encountered: a few days ago, my Epic Games launcher, and all the UE builds I had in it (not my source build), mysteriously removed itself from my computer. Everything including program data, logs, etc. was removed, except some 3rd party components in like UE 4.27 (my projects and vault cache was untouched). I suspect maybe repairing VS via the installer, when the epic games launcher is selected in the installer, could've caused this, otherwise I have no clue, or it could be a security vulnerability. Anyone ever encountered such an issue? Btw I'm back up, everythings reinstalled now, and don't use the epic games store help for the epic games store application, they're for store help only.
