why are all FE cards on nvidia.com sold out and a ton of businesses sale FE cards on ebay
do you get a free FE with every order of Taylor Swift tickets?
why would you want a free front end
Flounders Edishion
Im not buying an FE card until they come with little leather jackets
hi
hows the kid?
mostly non existent
Ohhh youre her son ๐ฎ
so it got an existencial crysis?
Maximum Motherhood
my kid is in third grade now โค๏ธ
learning about critical race theory
i am so proud
When you are racing
does that mean you are a racist?
Can the kid race crysis?
I hope the kid is a PC gamer, poor peasants
What? What's a FE card? What does that have to do with taylor swift
founders edition card, the official nvidia cards
scalpers
๐คฏ
I have a friend who got 4 tickets for the 2024 era tour. Cost her 5000 euro
so he got 4x 4080 + 4 tailor swift tickets?
why would anyone pay $5k to see tailor swift, wtf is wrong with people
5k is a bit much, agreed. But, her songs are good (sometimes, she has a bunch of garbage albums though)
And another bunch of really good albums
Weird
i don't even listen to her for $0
lol talkin about Spotify getting aggressive with ads
You're gonna hit me now
I have both Spotify and youtube premium
I have an adblocker and I don't use spotify
Spotify family does the trick for all of us
netflix has ads now I heard?
we are the only ones that don't use Spotify
youtube playlists and bandcamp is where it's at
Spotify costs me less than my Google Drive, poor struggles of the indie Google
technically yes once you pay taxes for others Healthcare
Spotify based
trust me, you want to pay for peoples colostomy bags
Although they dont have everything
my health insurance should pay for youtube premium because ads cause my blood pressure to rise
oh yeah band camp is nice, wish had more artists mid sized
idk I've got an adblock
You guys aint seen nuffin
I like Spotify
They don't sponsor me anymore ๐
you know that moment where you wrote a bunch of code to test something and then it starts working but you have to rewrite it for the actual use case but really don't want to start?
I dunno Youtube Premium might be worth it for some, others dont bother with it just like Spotify
I won't get ever thr point of the people paying 5 different platforms monthly for the same kind of service
Your money, your decisions ^^
Some might have something that others dont
see, i would actually pay youtube
lol and trust Google search results are legit gg
if there wasn't like at least 50% piracy on there
no way they use it to fund the real creators
Yesh but people playing Disney+ HBO, Netflix and other one per month each month and then claiming they don't have money to reach the last days of the month is like.... well
Well these days I get dodgy ads in any button I press so I guess Im doomed
The one with the ||mini mass effect shock absorbers ||?
Oh, thats a different story. And on top of that luxury like cigarettes as well etc
People do have money
Its their money management that is giving them the trouble
The tax on cigarettes here is so high to cover the public health that you could afford to pay for all the subscriptions instead of smoking
Yes
I only donated around 700โฌ to twitch streamers this month
Cigarettes are nothing more than luxury considering how much people spend on them without necessity
Okay seriously why do people buy twitch subs
theyre looking for the next Pokimane, you can do it
I never got the appeal
of cigarettes?
PalMane, do it laura
get dat PalMoney
Wow okay
People buy famous Twitch thots their fart and hair pieces, what do you expect
And hot tub water
nuclear subs, pew pew
settings on twitch, nevah
ok boomer

are there free enemies assets? simple enemies that can walk around, chase the player, patrol, snipe?
Walk around, chase and patrol is tutorial territory so probably
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_0VdAFg-OU I want to build something like this, a prototype level. I can either go for JK2 itself or... if I go for UE5 I'm going to need to learn how to make doors, buttons, one gun, enemies, all by myself.
Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast is a action adventure games based on the Star Wars Universe released in 2002 by LucasArts. Ive been meaning to play palworld for so long now but i keep putting it off lol
Im asian, brb buying a license for denuvo
Wait, didn't ksp1 have a kernel level something in it?
I remember not buying ksp1 because of that
I bought it later but initially didn't because of that
Wait, ill dig it up
I saw it in a bunch of steam reviews

at my current skill level I believe that making a prototype in JK2 is faster than learning the basics in UE5

It was a thing for about 4 years apparently

you can then complain about me wasting your money on YouTube premium and Spotify premium
How early is that
so early
I was considering buying Helldivers 2 but there were warnings for its rootkit level anti-cheat lol (on GMG)
no thanks
I didn't play valorant for the same reason
i'm glad i played PalWorld before they broke it on Linux
because they mentioned to add third party anticheat...

i love this story
I'm really lenient with my privacy but there's no way I'll allow root level access
that too for a damn game's anti-cheat system
fuck that
microsoft to blame there
how?
hey guys, is there a simple way to move epic games launcher to a different drive? Or do I have to just reinstall it along with all games?
being broken in terms of security since 1995
Yeah I'll just have to mess with it to figure out if I like it or not lol
well the whole issue with cheating isn't a windows issue tho
Based
i bet 99% of the current cheats are just exploiting the fact that the server accepts any claims that the client makes
People acting like apple invented augmented reality
I've been pretty secure so
not really ig?
doesnt mean windows is secure though
You can't do anything about aimbots or esps on the server side
And those are just the simple cheats
but palworld isn't about aiming
it's currently PVE only
so it's more about griefing etc.
which is all something that is should be server authoritative
Yeah, I'm mainly talking about shooters which are plagued by (soft) aimbots, esps, and similar
There was a whole discussion about it recently here #programmer-hangout message (scroll down from there if you are interested)
The reality is that even something as invasive as Vanguard is very much exploitable
That in Palworld sounds like poor netcode then lol
It's an odd one, but I've heard that moving the directory and then setting up a symlink can have some limited success
Pity me, for I must now debug phpBB to try and figure out why a forum isn't working right.
Lol
Shouldn't probably post it here as it goes into details of cheating and how to do it
But yeah it's a lot more common than people realize
eh i already just reinstalled:D
appearently if you get your OS leaked several times and build your security systems on top of multiple tech debts you end up having your customers hacked each year
I didnt say linux is safe or safer though
its just microsoft doesnt help to make it better
after vista they started to
but it runs on same tech debt
true but does it change the fact we're doomed to pay for decisions of MS made since win95
what is this person's role? he preaches... christianity? how is that related to UE?
NT literally got leaked first lol
OpenNT is a thing
it got better after vista, anything before that was literally dark age
xp was so cursed that you could get hacked by just having default email application installed
ohhh right right he tries to get people to use UE?
Yeah basically
lmao
or laid off

he was too good for metaverse
i got what you meant dw

Did you played Ready or Not yet? @broken sigil
I haven't yet, have to find time
hi
I'm planning to buy 3rd monitor for Level Editor.
Just for it. Without Content Browser, Outliner, Details panel or Place Actors.
To see levels in full screen
What do you think?
2 monitors workings fine
was it in 3 or more monitors?
I'm using since 4.26 and never had problem with multi monitor issues
@empty dune is 40k: darktide any good?
Most game devs have the blender origin story, not just for developing games but life itself.
I wish more studios would make high quality souls like games
im thinking about getting 3 monitors next year but im not sure
I fell asleep in afternoon and woke at 7pm ๐ฆ that's the absolute worst
hi guys
I have something pretty big in the works and don't know whichchannel here is the better one to engage people from
there is not a metahuman channel for example
We're all just plain humans here
Is that so? #metahumans
I met a human once
I made a brawl deck with Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator and it's so evil, I love it ๐
just wants some pets
Hi
A year ago? Not so much. Now? Pretty great yeah
The crafting still sucks though
But the actual game is pretty fun
https://futurism.com/the-byte/contact-lost-spacecraft-quantum-drive
Lol this article was funny
Someone actually paid money to build a launch a "reactionless drive" without bothering to prove it works first? That's some kind of optimism
Basically KSP2 ๐
there has been studies that apparently showed the drive performing. though some of those were later retracted as apparently due to measuring equipment malfunction. the others remain but have not been reproduced iirc
clearly the project was sabotaged by the propellant sellers
big hydrogen is holding us back, wake UP SHEEPLE ||/s||
Yeah, that's really what I mean. The evidence of functionality is just so tenuous that I'm surprised people would be willing to spent millions on a rocket launch just to try it out.
people spend millions on luxury cars that just sit in garages and look pretty ๐คท
Well itโs not easy to achieve space conditions on Earth
idk what rich people do
not happening, the disney empire will rise
There was a time when I actually admired Musk. Oh how the mighty have fallen
i admired musk at one point too. i also didnt know shit about him back then and was young
didnt help that every fucking media outlet called him savior of the human race
star trek discovery even named him as one of the great people on "past earth"
seriously, in that episode he got named next to einstien and newton
Elon is abit of a Princess so I guess that works
Not sure what Musk has done to deserve any hate tbh. Sure he's a troll, but so are all the people who hate on him. At least he is advancing technologies and doing something pro-active for future generations. More than I could say for most internet people ๐
I can't really voice my objections without getting into politics and human rights discussions, which I would rather not do on a game forum
shouldnt it be the other way around then? ๐
oh wow
f2p no man's sky is big
free weekend
doesnt seem so, it looks like the entire new expedition is free to play
From 14:00 GMT, Thursday 15th Feb to 18:00 GMT, Monday 19th Feb, the entire Omega expedition will be open to everyone, entirely for free, even if you donโt own No Manโs Sky! This is the best time for players old and new to come together and explore the universe.
Steam's interface calls it a trial instead of the game simply being free. First time I've seen that.
probably just a fancy name for AAA demos
Mate, some of the corpo stuff he says is vile all to save his own bank account. He acts like this grassroots guy who worked his way up but we all know he was born into it. He's certainly not the worst person alive but he's no Warren Buffett
did you know he refused his family money, took the money he earned and disowned them?
It doesnt matter when your family has a status
Prince Harry is still a Prince even if he's technically not
they had some status in south africa perhaps, but not in Canada where he moved to
You think 56 billion is a fair wage?
I can guarantee he is not the only person who added that wealth to Tesla. As a SpaceX customer though I know they are making far too much from Starlink to really consider a proper Mars mission let alone colonization, its nice double talk from Musk though as per usual
depends. Obviously not under normal circumstances but when you consider he wanted it so he could advance his space program many years ahead of what he would without it, I think the reason for it might balance out a bit considering it's for advancing the human space journey. He doesn't care about personal wealth to get new things. He already has all that and more.
That money he lost in personal wealth could fund NASA for 3 years roughly, so why didnt he just give it up? Why waste 44 billion on Twitter when that coulda funded NASA for another 2 years... Why ask the US government for more subsidies for SpaceX continually when your personal wealth is perfectly capable of sustainable funding
Im all for Occupying Mars, Musk changed
Time. We are all running out of it and he wants to see his fruits come to bear before he goes.
Oh yes Elon is the worst at hitting his target dates, Im not sure he's ever hit one but he's the best business man on the planet by all accounts
I was gonna say, no way they make it free to play. No Man's Sky doesn't have any microtransactions. You buy the game and that it
i was tempted to play the new NMS expansion. I haven't played it since launch and it looks really good
when we were homeless the only thing we watched on tv was The Simpsons. We went through all 30+ series twice. Im so sick of it now lol
I wish I was rich enough to have a social media addiction ๐
I just want to be rich enough to buy my own home. In Iceland. Not near any volcanos tho.
this is how I sit on the toilet
I wouldnt mind a shack on Olympus Mons
it would suck tho if the oxygen generator broke down. I hear it's like a 6 month wait to get a repair guy up there.
Internet sooo slow, takes 5 mins to buffer The Simpsons
speaking of starlink. I was pricing up internet connections when we moved in here and Starlink is an absolute rip off unless you live in the outback. It was like $100 a month for a fairly average connection speed. So I went with gigabit cable for 50/month
Iceland is a volcano
yeah but it takes an average of 230,000 years for an eruption. So I'll just move to one where it happened within the last 100,000 years or so :p
Yeah its cheaper than other Satellite options here, we have no wired or cellular options so it was pretty limited short of building a repeater tower to get point-to-point Wifi NBN
the latency on NBN sattelite was over 500, now its regularly under 50. Not brilliant but a significant improvement
I could live with that tbh. Most of the time I'm getting 30-50 ping in games anyway on both fibre or cable. Haven't had a 20 ping since the early 2000s.
only time I had under 20 was when I lived near the city in Perth, that was on a local TF2 server. Coast to coast here is not typically great
used to play mmos with 900+ ping
you guys get 20 ms ping?
ISDN used to have a good ping. But that was expensive for the time
coast to coast in aus? what an odd phrase
just to rub it in: source games wouldn't display lower than 5 ping
The fact that you know that ๐
My greatest claim to be not terrible at video games was that even with 900+ ms ping i had above 55% wr
playing against you must have been rubber banding hell
It was rubber band hell for me as well
Fun fact, India has better linkage to EU than to most asian countries
So EU servers were the only ones playable back then
The Asian servers were 1200+ ms
Now I see why Steam is doing the trial thing for No Man's Sky. It's not a full free weekend, just the omega expedition.
free with xbox game pass if you have it.
Its clearly a womans sky
Yeah, its called squadron 42
Its a separate game now
Still in development
As usual
I wonder what Eve Vanguard will be like, not that I enjoy playing with other people
Well this is an FPS set in the Eve universe so maybe it'll be more interesting. Does say solo play here hmm, thats probably just solo queues
Fps in eve universe? Didn't that die like half a decade ago? More?
maybe they should add Pals to Eve instead
mobworld
I'm getting an itch to play Apex again
nooo you must play an extraction shooter instead
Naniteโข ready
Soft references
Wait
Each
Wtf
I am trying to soft ref
I don't know where to start and what to do
I cant bring myself to nanite my assets. So far Ive just used chamfers everywhere and skipped on baking normal maps, tri counts are very high but manageable. I guess only for rocks and other organics ill just dump the zbrush meshes in UE
My question exactly.
@chrome gull HOW does each of those assets come to 900MB? Are you including multiple 4k textures or something?
like this
This seems to be a 'I-made-a-mess' scenario.
What did you do to make it end up like that?
I built it off an FPS template that had examples of pickups
and then added my own logic to serve functionality
it looks like a typical marketplace asset pack, where the maker went "oh nanite! I dont have to optimise at all! millions of vertices! 4k textures for each mesh!"
no no this isn't about the meshes
Okay. But, each asset shouldn't be 900MB regardless. I can understand all of the instances of each asset together being 900MB, but each and every one?
I think they are loading an instance of the character?
I dunno, I''m clueless
Yeah, the instances piled up can occupy 900MB in memory, sure.
meshes are super light
Do you have a screenshot of the level or gameplay that you can share?
It seems like a very veggie, green project. ๐
actually kinda good

those are just food pickups, player interacts and hunger is gone
it's not
then yeah, I'm lost at how the asset is using so much data
Even that many pick-ups on the ground shouldn't hit 900MB if the assets are light.
Check the textures.
the size maps show that each one is 900 mb
this scene is happily running at 60 FPS without any drops
Are those pick-ups using 4k textures?
nope, 2048 * 2048
๐ค Dial one of them down to 1024 and see if the memory footprint for that drops.
AFK eating chapati and potatoes, watching anime
no
I am trying to keep it together
(my sanity)
90MB MobilePhoneComponent. 200MB W_MainMenu. 470MB BP_WeaponBase. It can't really be loading these things, can it?
from what I can see of the sizemap thing, it looks like the breadloaf bp is referencing your inventory item base, which references save data which references the player character.... so yeah, lots of references.
I'm no expert, but why is your breadloaf referencing the save data?
it references the player bp which has references to all of the other things
it references the player bp which has all of the other things
a pickup shouldnt be referencing the player, it should have an interface or a function that says "pickup" or interact that returns the item type so the player can then add to inventory or whatever
oh wait yeah
that is what it does
I dont have a game project loaded, but the default FP blueprint for the rifle has a memory size of 61mb
if the item when the interact interface is called does a getPlayer, then calls a function on the player for pickup, then I think that would count as a reference
like, Interact - getPlayerController - get inventory - additem(me)
should be that calling Interact() returns the item name and quantity, or returns a pointer to the object, then the player/controller handles doing stuff with it
I'm surprised tho, I've never looked at memory map before.... I checked the theme data asset for my map gen, which holds references to a dozen or more meshes and such, and its only about 5mb
I cant seem to sleep, so I guess I'll make breakfast and coffee
I decided to do it just now for the objects I have now and I regret it
but ig it's better that I looked at them sooner
rather than later
For upgrading my skills:
If it shouldn't be Interact - getPlayerController - get inventory - additem(me), which obviously it shouldn't,
then the correct way would be something like:
Interact - TempItemStoreVariable - additem
and then, getPlayerController - TempItemStoreVariable - additem(me)?
Player hits the use key on the item they want to pickup. PlayerCharacter calls the interact function, the interface has a return value, so you Interact with the item, it returns the itemName and quantity, with that returned value, it calls the inventory class to say "add this item". if the inventory says its added the item, that returns true back to the player character, which then tells the pickup that its been picked up
I cut out the inventory part, the item gets used the moment it's picked up
so there's no "storing"
How does this stop the reference to the PlayerController?
the PlayerCharacter will probably always reference the playercontroller (as a pointer, shouldnt be a copy of the object). Tho you do have to avoid circular references. But the actual pickup is just using the interface and doesnt know anything about the player character or controller. It just knows that it had an interface call and it returned a value
I see. Thank you โค๏ธ .
I could be wrong about the "probably always reference the PC" but every project I've done its been the case. but I'm also really bad at circular dependancies/references
point is, the pickup shouldnt have any reference to the player, or know anything about it
Oh, I was thinking GDC was today and was excited

Yes, but I must question YOUR devotion personally. ๐
That's a very nice track! ๐ โ
that entire game OST is gold
also listen to "The imperial advance"
How important are the foods to your game?
His vehicles are worse
4 gb footprint
Because I felt like the sandwiches in Starfield were a gimmick that had no real value to gameplay
they have all this dehidrated food too which is essentially just reskins of the same thing. Personally I dont care enough to distiguish between them, big waste of resources
Unless your game is specifically about managing junk in your inventory
The game is an immersive sim iirc ||so yes||
I mean think about it, we live in a world where AI can do all these amazing things, we have automation galore but in Bethesdas future we are still shifting Apples from one box to another manually
very, they exist to cure hunger and need to be purchased which requires money and that's the reason why the player does what he does
immersive sim sounds like an excuse for dated design philisophy
my game?
there is literally no junk
Death Stranding doesnt have food and it has one of the best Stamina systems Ive ever seen
lmao how
yet
they won't be any
If all these items are essentially the same stat they are the same object to me
I hate inventory management and that's actually one of the reasons why I started making this game ๐ญ
Even then, Ive seen games with complex stats for objects where people only use 1 or 2 because its what they like so you end up creating far more content than is necessary
sound of hissing
just make a fruit salad and boom, theres like 20 fruits worth of savings ๐
As long as you encourage the player to discard whatever they can't carry, it shouldn't be an issue. As soon as you need to label a storage container, you're making inferior minecraft.
In The Forest they have different berries and mushrooms but no one eats the bad ones once they know the game, the whole mechanic is broken but we let it go cuz survivals are hot sauce
Ive played a survival game with food degredation and oh boy it is the worst mechanic ever, just makes something grindy more grindier
in games where you have to have food, they always have recipes and cooking and all this extra junk, and I just end up eating apples or whatever is easiest to get and carry
crazy thing is most of these games accelerate hunger and thirst beyond realistic amounts to make it more immersive, its nonsensical to me
maybe its so people dont realise how small the maps really are because they have to fight energy and stamina etc for every 10m of running
I feel like Im a more than a pack of day smoker in some of these, Forever Skies is particularly bad
was it ark survival evolved? lol
Fighting constant pressure and scrounging can make for a decent game loop. Problem is, a lot of survival games also want to do the minecraft building thing. The combination of a game loop that requires patience and planning and time, contrasted with a game loop that is constantly nagging you for attention is just mystifying.
Thing is early game is always the most punishing so you end up getting it easier when it should be getting more difficult
I'm trying to prevent this in my game
People eat like, what, 4 times a day?
We can survive much longer without food, we eat because we have the luxury of the 21st century
if youre somewhere hot for eg youre much more likely to get heatstroke and go loopy before you die of thirst
breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner
yeah but it wouldn't be fun gameplay then
Who snacks between lunch and dinner
hobbits
no ones really captured the psychological aspects or the other threats of a foreign environment. Sons of the Forest I did a test, I put it on the hardest survival mode and left my player in a river for hours, all my meters were on lowest but no death
Its not fun gameplay to me now
my game is set in a 2034 city lol
its tedious, Ive completely dropped any games with hunger systems
so not very harsh
too frequent?
something like GTA: SA was super clever, food was a fun aside to the main game
and fake difficulty, its not usually hard to find food and do all the things its just a time sink
I'm trying to make it not unbearable but it is a large part of the game
fair enough, stores are everywhere here
See thats what I mean, stores everywhere so you end up just making it mechanical for the player. Does it actually add anything, well maybe you can find a hook in there somewhere that suits the setting
not everyone has the luxury of a stable 9-5. many live pretty desperate lives. His game is depression simulator 2034 iirc so not hard to imagine someone struggling
Id love to buy a pet monkey and let it hoover up all the fruit for me, maybe it can feed me slices of apple when I get low enough bit like a fancy health regen ๐
yes exactly my point, I have better things to do with my time than feed a fake character fake food
thats why all those gotchiwatchits died
that's the goal
no thats not really a fair point. youre equating two different things
one is an ingame atmosphere
the other is external irl time limits
atmosphere is fine but when it impacts gameplay and gets in the way of my enjoyment its a net negative
the game doesn't have a main story to push the player forward so I resorted to the most primal drives of them all
I only have a limited time to play so if 20 mins out of 1 hr of play is finding food and eating or resting...
that is not an extreme eg either
what? no! I'm trying to make the setting as happy as possible
since when
everything youve told me is the opposite
I think Ghostwire Tokyo has some sort of foods in it, I dont pay much attention to the different types they are all essentially healthpacks to my brain
strange question but, do you like fishing games?
Can you name a fishing game for an example
ultimate fishing simulator 2023 for games about fishing, rdr2 for games with fishing
nope dont play fishing simulators... Neverwinter had fishing but it was some sort of crafting mechanic, you get the different fish for some sort of seasoning carp
okay so the setting started out as an ideal world but then I quickly realized that there's no narrative without conflict
xDD
i like how they give you the opportunity to look at this for minutes to catch a fish
so I'm added more and more shit things while still trying to portray that the city is a good place to live in
this is exactly why i asked him the question XD
also what did I tell you lol
i was wondering if he considered it a waste of time
I would just use dynamite but they want you to grind fishing
doggo dies, kid dies, dad dies
not necessarily if you use that time to think about other things
riiiight yes
e.g. like i use to think about work while taking walks/showers
that's just one quest in a big city
I play more chill games if thats what I want, in survival I want to be acting and present to my surroundings
I basically wanted to state that the average citizen's biggest problem would be traffic
but traffic doesn't make a lot of stories
I decided to not continue with it btw
so it doesn't exist in the game
ah
Factorio, but the items have road rage
wrong, ever heard of road rage?
Not much point wasting all that wattage on pretty graphics if Mini Motorways fills that spot nicely
yeah lmao
but how many stories can you tell about road rage
at least 2
looks at gtaV
many apparently
Starfield was just so stressful with all the huffing and puffing, getting no where even with fully upgraded stamina. Games like that and Sons of the Forest just wear me down
I had to resort to creative ways to make the game's world a bit shitter
Imagine every storyline you've ever heard of, but start it off with road rage.
that's the ONE thing I hate about Bethesda games, inventory management and encumbrance
yet I can play a dark depressing game like Frostpunk and have heaps of fun even when the pressures on, those games arnt short either but I dont feel like its time wasted
thankfully I can either mod it out or use console commands to increase the storage limit
idfc if it breaks the gameplay loop I don't want to manage inventory
I mean you gotta consider Ive been using the same boxy drag and drop interfaces since they were invented
ah right
with only very little improvements in that time
somehow TOW makes it really manageable which is baffling
I was never able to figure out how they managed it
it also had degrading weapons which I also hate
Player: Do I really need a 20th cheese wheel?
Game designer: You might.
Level designer: I put it there for a reason.
Interface designer: No one would ever.
Player: I'm picking it up.
it doesn't make sense at all for Fallout 4
you're (optionally) tasked with building ENTIRE settlements
and then never use it cause what if they needed it for an especially hard boss?
how tf am I supposed to carry all the stuff needed to build one in a fucking backpack?
yes yes here's 4 units of wood and metal go build your city now
I really liked The Forest inventory and then they went and made it worse somehow. I think it comes down to efficiency, what is the best to get the job done faster. They ended up adding quick buttons to get around the issue and we're kinda back where we started
๐๐
Five hours later...
Player: I lost slightly more health than I expected. Thank goodness I have these cheese wheels so that I don't have to use my precious more powerful healing items that I also have a hundred of.
Game designer: This is called "engagement".
Modern game design: Lets make it so players have to build a cheese wheel from cheese slices
didn't KitBash3D sell kits in the past? All i can see is their subscription!?
they moved it to something called cargo
-_-
Cargo is a free software which will revolutionize the way you work with 3D assets. Cargo features 1-Click Import to your 3D software, powerful search and filtering, and a vast library of over 10,000 Models and Materials from a wide variety of genres. Download Cargo for free to get started!
what if i pay for a month and download everything they have? ๐
ah nvm, some kits still have a kit buy option
They might have a clause in there where you have to be an active subscriber to launch with that content
then i'll subscribe on the launch month again ๐
it appears helldivers devs ran out of internet.
server capicities keep being reached
Im pretty sure its like that with Adobe and Autodesk subs, you have to be active to be able to sell your stuff
Last I checked but that was awhile ago, maybe its been updated
Whats with all these asset browsers which suck ๐
well i can see how most people don't mind tho
a studio which can afford a license most likely likes the idea to just import the stuff straight to UE from their App
assuming it supports UE and isn't just a "fancy" downloader
Id say most are just fancy downloaders, even the search tools arnt that great typically
oh yay, another thing to crash my build just like Bridge ๐
It does not. That plugin is hell
Honestly it would be awesome if someone made a raw asset management tool for indie studios
and windows only...
for unreal marketplace there's this for windows: https://assetmanager.studio/
dev is on this server
Its worse. It makes a new project that it downloads the kit into, then auto migrates it to your target project
what could go wrong...
This is what happens when everything does things The Epic Way (tm) and Epic are all like UNREAL EDITOR FOR FORTNITE

@summer cedar
Very true.
i love ultramarines XD
They look very ultra, regal-like.
I want to play Space Marines 2.
Captain Titus shall reign supreme. Screw the inquisitors.
What if they were just sort of okay marines
H... E.... R.... E.... T.... I.... C....
okay, this will be fun. youre the second person i get to do this to XD
you know that ultramarines are named after the color of their armor, right? Their armor color is ultramarine blue. It has nothing to do with being ultra XD
well, third person
You told me that once before. I was probably the first person and you just forgot.
I know that. They're still ultra. ๐
no, @woven wing was the first
funny thing is that is their in lore status. vanilla space marines, good at everything, amazing at nothing except for logistics
do not fuck with ultramarine logistics
Oh, because they're ultra marines, they must be ultra good at logistics
Blue is faster logistically speaking, its so their crates dont get mixed up with any of the other marines
Don't mess with the ultramarines period.
When they go beyond, plus ultra, then you die. (manga reference there, for those of you who get it)
Well... you die anyway. But, you die ultra-more this way.
I hope Space Marines 2 has Capt. Titus taking revenge on his lieutenant who sold him out to the inquisitors.
Also, I hope we get to squish an entire inquisitorial ship and its crew, just for kicks.
THEN, we get to the orks.
I couldnt get the first Space Marine game to run ๐ฆ
Huh? Why?
Just crashes for me
๐ค At the intro-movie stage, or in-game menu?
lol neither, it doesnt get that far
Well, you are a heretic clearly.
The Emperor doesn't favour you and has cursed your machine.
are you a word bearer fan? maybe the game detected that
He is. Notice his previous dig at the ultramarines.
fun fact, all this "kill the heretic purge the mutant" talk was written by Lorgar.
The primarch of the word bearers
He was forecasting his own doom. ๐
Nah I just like true Space Marines like Blood Ravens, all the others are just cheap knock offs ๐
I would love to see any marine chapter vs. berserk Blood Ravens - plot line being that the Blood Ravens have gone insane and are rampaging across a sector. You, as a marine, must kill them all to purge the chaos.
Warhammer 40,000: The Blood Opera
Is that a real scene from the series?!
wtf
they literally have killed the series
Mustard Chef needs his helmet
to fail again?
Another tomorrow another try
life is a rogue-lite game
I dunno, when I fail I get to keep my skills
Error: Infinite loop detected
try sleeping, it adds a coroutine to the loop
I just had a wonderful nap ๐
and I slept 14 hours today
it was wonderful too
had trouble sleeping earlier today during my "night", so I really needed the nap
just noticed that the VLC instance i've opened a week ago kept 2 of my cores at 100% for some reason -_-
the perks of having a high core count i guess...
it's just like RAM I suppose, if there's available resources you ought to use them
funny how sometimes when you swap an i for a k things work a lot better all of a sudden
Two generals duel, armies volley arrows at one another, it is twilight as the sun sets on thousands of lives.
le sigh
The game's crashing repeatedly for some reason, in this battle, although the VFX on-screen are much lighter than those in the siege.

@woven ocean in the netherlands
Thats an article from UE on the uni I go to
the title is a bit clickbaity but the content describes the program really well
cuz In Moldova they only give us tasks ,they dont teach and expect results from us
Its a combination but Id say 80% of the time Im just working on my project
In my opinion, you should really only go to a college for gamedev for these reasons:
Opportunity to work on your skills fulltime
Connections
Getting experience with teamwork
Constant feedback loop from experts
yeah but do they give you information?Do they show how games are made?Maybe modeling classes, sound design,or programming
Well, I study game design so I dont do any modeling or sound design or programming (except in blueprints)
we don't have experts(
The thing is, you gotta specialise, so at that point they cant really give too many in depth courses
Since theyd have to give 50 lectures for 50 students
each one needing something else
So, the main loop of learning is: You get a project -> You decide what you want to tackle on the project and submit your plan -> get feedback and greenlight -> work on porject -> get feedback -> improve -> etc
until the deadline
Sure, teachers are useless, why do we even have school
I always find it funny that a lot of game developers think this job is so special it cant be taught
You just need a proper program
Not everyone can do selfstudy and be succesful, Id argue the majority of people cant
i mean i understang that the person that knows his job will not teach but work, but holy sh*t how do i learns from a teacher that i am able to teach?
they are like from the movie story toys
This list was in order of importance btw
in my opinion ofc
ah, the famous movie story toys
How dare you!
So, the biggest advantage for me is that I am now able to work fulltime on gamedev
and only work in the weekends
Ask the Emperor on the Golden Throne for forgiveness.
for education, at least
Do it NAOW!
social connections, ew
same here lmao, all my time is being hogged by the college, no time to work on my demo
i don't have friends dude ;-;
connections, thats it, thats all i can get from my university and in my case you need to be lucky to find good connections
hey at least you can do spy shit now
You gotta be careful what program, cause theres a lot of shitty gamedev ones. This was the only one relatively near me I thought would be worth it
My school says on the website the piece of paper is the least important part of what youll get actually
Cause noone cares about it if your portfolio is lacking
So thats what we focus on
Well, I think I have reached the limit of TW: Three Kingdoms. The game crashes repeatedly in this battle. I think this is one of those late-game optimisation bugs.
But usually when I see people be negative about going to school for gamedev, and I ask them why, they describe the worst programs possible and Im like yeah... dont go to those schools, seems pretty logical to me
I am not even getting the fucking paper, I'm searching for some distance learning shit to get that
(Not saying, you need college, but in my case I wouldnt be in my position without it)
but it would be a great idea if developers and proffesionals that work at the job,as representants of their companies would teach students,so they will work in future at their companies
We do get a bunch of industry people give lecturers, we hold a few conferences and they come in regularly (4 times a year) to do portfolio reviews which is nice
Yeah, some people arent fortunate enough to be able to go to a good one
But again, you dont strictly need education
see that what im saying it helpes
I missed the signup for a portfolio review from the Larian design team ๐
Next year.... lol
|| Be like me and actively avoid friends, works every time
||
btw,i quit my team cuz we had misunderstandings, and now im making my game from start in 3 months
while others continue their games
i will be a level designer, programmer ,3d artist sound designer and game designer
No. The right way is to trap your friends on a patient's bed in your secret laboratory, dissect them, and determine clinically if they're the 'right' type of friend for you.
tough
doing that made my brain shit the bed
Paper credentials can be useful, but people are right that it's not the most important thing. At my first job out of college as a programmer I got a 3 month probationary period. At the end of it when I was confirmed as a full time employee I asked my boss what in my resume made him hire me and he said it was because I had worked in a bakery going in at 5am in the morning for four years while going to college and that told him that I would take my job seriously and work hard at it. Sometimes that's what potential employers value the most.
We're both from the same glorious civilisation. ๐
We think right. ๐
I was so mentally ill you wouldn't even know
i like to develop solo, but i need more blueprint knowledge
You know I am right. You do.
Accept it. Embrace it. BECOME it.
I would do that too but I hate being 2 of those things
The university gave me a piece of paper, while the bakery gave me cinnamon rolls. I'll leave it to the reader to decide which is better
here is the game im working on,about a caterpillar that in 7 days will become a butterfly now the caterpillar is very ugly, but its only for testing
the caterpillar is your player character?
yessir
Is it hungry, hungry?
its not ๐
nice nice I also have a game like that planned but I simply don't have the resourced needed to work on it
Do you collect the nuts from the ground, digest it, hibernate, and transform into a beautiful butterfly?
just has to make some quests and open up abilities
(you'll need to control multiple animals to successfully cause a revolution against mankind)
what do you neam ,like the pc is weak?
most likely
no lol, I don't have the ability to do it
very simplified
no models, animations, skill, money, etc
my PC can handle pretty much anything you throw at it (flex)
I need
just overlap with a plant, add it to a integer variable ,and still have issues ๐
become a solo developer ๐ learn all of this
flex? hmmm
what gpu do u have?
I AM solo, I don't want to be
RTX 4070
btw ,do you know the inheritance well?if yes can you help me in vc?
inheritance of?
my phone feels like this now, each company pretending to have an app and be special
Laura, you should be outside with the dog and the couple taking fresh air
Nah, they still searching where are the files shown in that File manager.
somehow reminded me of cooledit or however one of those first html editors was named ๐
nvm, cooledit was sfx
Today I have made a great leap forward in my development. I found a color theme for Visual Studio that I like!
speaking of red pandas, was Turning Red any good?
ah is it about female red panda empowerement?
LOL In a sense, yes
What's DS mean
All I read is Dark Souls
@summer cedar my tree is going along fine.

It's just going to take forever to build, the circle diameter is 124 blocks. Entire circle outline is 348 blocks. I'll need 67,136 spruce logs just for the trunk alone. Not including the branches or the 15 huge roots I plan to build too ๐
Hi
That's a double chest full of shulker boxes each filled with spruce logs
how dragon is the mother ?
i am the mother and also the dragon
I just asked luos if he was ok
because he was talking about shooting children in #graphics
๐
strange times
 mother dragon is that good to have both in one?
:8ball: Outlook not so good.
i remove childs from their parents several times a day
they get garbage collected at some point
wow
it yearns for the mines
Show pics. ๐
In a bit, brothers playing game
At this point, do enemies strap the butterfly to a patient's chair, dissect it, and find out if it can be a reliable friend?
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that after over 2 months in orbit, we have lost contact with the satellite carrying our fuel-less engine, which was slated to upend the laws of physics as we know it, and radically change life for every human in existence the moment we turned it on.
However we would like to thank you for your support and money that got us here. We are determined to keep this up.
-what cssoftware imagines they said.
that shit is a blatant scam lol.
Holy heck! I just told a medium-sized, friendly alliance - with about 6 to 10 provinces under their control - that they had better federate themselves with my Empire, or I'd destroy their entire alliance. My military was just 25% or so better than theirs, going my the game's measurement system. THEY AGREED! ๐ ๐คฃ
also it's not like ion drives don't exist for a good while. they also don't require fuel, just electricity
I might have been misinformed
should i get a sponsership from big ion now? ๐
You guys into exotic propulsion methods?
right now @chrome gull is sponsering me
disregard anything I said ๐
I was very much into the Em-Drive around 10 years ago
and was very hype when nasa did tests and they were apparently promising
then never heard of it again
usually those end up being the best things.
that was because of equipment calibration errors iirc
that sounds about right ๐
man space travel would be cool
Lots of these projects that start out public, or with some public record, and then there is a test and you never hear about it again are just projects that become classified R&D
like the US army lighting gun.
imagine if like people went to the moon
but doesnt look like star trek is gonna be a thing anytime soon
and landed there
and laser induced plasma in general
it would be the coolest thing ever
is that a UAP
It is.
Kind of.
This technology was first publicly demonstrated by a japanese aerial display company. using laser induced plasma to rasterize shapes in the air.
(pog)
because it's just laser and mirrors, it can do things like move at impossible speeds, change shape, etc.
how blind do you go when looking at it?
an easy shape to render would be a large cylinder just made of a bunch of rings.
like a tic tac.

A method where a laser beam is configured to generate a laser-induced plasma filament (LIPF), and the LIPF acts as a decoy to detract a homing missile or other threat from a specific target.
so sad csssoftware died from 16 gunshots to the back of his head. looks like a suicide ๐
๐
You can get EM energy, gamma rays, all sorts of fun stuff out of the plasma bursts so it has plenty of use in exotic sensing, and electronic warfare
F CSSoftware you will be membered
This is all public information
because you leaked it from the secret archives
aerial drawing video by Aerial3DDisplay of the burton Co.,Ltd.
sometimes i can still hear him like he's still here
just memories....sigh.......
Nah lol, there's stuff I won't talk about, but this isn't it.
has anyone followed the UAP stuff recently? I did not have any time, didn't follow anything since the hearings basically
yes
any pog news?
i really dont care. im sure XCOM is out there fighting the good fight
the galactic federation is watching the space monkeys throw sticks and rocks
one rock even makes a mushroom!
those are the most fun yeah
never know when you might need one of those, or a couple thousand
It's all a distraction so that people don't get in trouble for technically mishandling money that is funneled into beyond-state-of-the-art R&D
thats why russia has our backs covered
that's just like, your opinion, man
with red dot sights
Watch as nothing truly groundbreaking continues to not come out of it.
yeah I've been off the hype train for a bit, I do believe grusch believes what he's saying. however how true all of it is in the end is another story
we will see, it's been fun following it. at least for the most part
He's actually a former high level person though, if there would be someone to stick to the cover story and willing to make a saccrifice to do it, it would be him. He will also be able to fade into obscurity, so it's more of a short lived spotlight type thing.
Doomer GDC prediction: Epic sunsets UE for small developers and pushes everyone towards UEFN
wouldn't work.
Yeah, regardless of what they want, regardless of the law they have put the source code out there. Unreal is "free" and thats not ever changing.
can't delete stuff from the internet.
rule #1
So yeah even with cynicism cranked up, that just means that epic games learns the hard way that their decision can cut both ways.
For current versions sure
yeah, but even without that, we could just go back to "the internet is the wild west, try to stop it"
obviously
This isn't the way I want to owe Epic money lol
Nah, I know that the companies are over encumbered by their own weight and ability to be found and pay money. I'm talking about small developers who have the ability to release things anonymously if they want. underground indie type shit.
right, those are just the types who would still be able to continue to utilize a pirated unreal engine in the event that epic games goes crazy and people still want to use it.
for a few more days ๐
until nintendo wipes the company out
copyright law basicly doesnt exist in japan
I love palworld and I never even played it / don't plan to. It just proves that real, actual fun games can still get high player counts like "back in the day"
I remember hopping on halo 3 after school and seeing 200-300k online, and thats about how many players were on palworld last time I checked a day or so ago. Many people were arguing that "games can't get high player counts anymore" because of the larger number of options for people to play.
Palworld proves it can still happen. Most games are just actual trash and scams.
Ok then
define fun.
I am going to roast you so hard ๐
no idea, but based on actual, real world results people find palworld to be very very fun.
and thats what im talking about.
I haven't heard anything. Just had the worst most MBA thought ever about that UEFN thing and wanted to share
palworld already lost 60% of its audience
Every game does
lol yeah down to a meager 200k players online
The only fun the game had is pokemon with guns
Everyone defines fun in their own way
They are probably gonna shut it down like the day before because they only have 300k players online, it's a failure, abandon ship!
gimme a break lol
The true problem games have these days, is that everyone and their mum is trying to monetize the gameplay...
NFTs, Blockchain, Lootboxes, Cashshops...
The games are deliberatly made worse
for these comfort articles
right, and palworld shows they can be made better.
palworld hasnt done anything special
at all
its just another smashhit
god of war did the same
alan wake 2
singleplayer games
Palworld had good pal designs
I loved their absolutely savage response to the new york times article that talked about how they lost the players.
They came out and said "don't worry, you don't have to feel bad for not playing after you finish the content" mic drop
Something every other pokemon competitor failed to do
So doing something right can make money
like
god of war
or alan wake...
discord lag
ah well
bye.
Palworld hasn't done anything special
It's just a smash hit
You should enter the olympic mental gymnastics.
bye.
palworld isn't even a masterpiece
but it's playable, has content, has a gameloop, and gatcha mechanics to keep players engaged for a while ๐
it certainly doesn't look like a masterpiece to me.
But I still love it and what it's doing, and the shockwaves it's sending through the industry.
is the main game I play
the same shockwave god of war send
or alan wake...
Then why so defensive?
the idea that good games done right still make great games
Arrest my case your honor!
stop praising palworld
lol
its not sending a shockwave
palworld is like that one super successful derpy indie game which releases once in two years
like among us
minecraft
and whatever else fits into that scheme ๐
but imho it only got good because of modders
if you compare vanilla to a decent modpack...
I'm excited to see their new terrain solution
The only thing I know about it is it being on the roadmap
It's a good game tho
KD in Titanfall goes brr
