If I had to dye my hair, it would be dark blue
pfp checks out
affectionateUser#4018
TL;DR: lounge scrutiny for repeated hug ad nauseum
i want to dye my hair red
can you repeat in english π
You don't have a hair, but fur - wake up.
remove the "ad nauseum" word
It was about money at the end.
i have fur? π what... what kind of animal am i?!
someone bullied him and he left, meanies
snap lol
I can say the same with how newbies getting bullied in software engineering space, but I digress
Anyway, hair dye
where to get roles
someone must wash the floor Β―_(γ)_/Β―
What roles?
pink?
pink is nitro
lame
pink role?
nope... you have to boost the server too... I have Nitro
you can also apply for mod to become orange
For all intents and purposes, this server has no roles
that's why i wanted it
Except UE forums aren't that active
in the other servers i match my color to my pfp
isn't this cute
indeed
But you can join my server and get the green role, just favorite one of the characters from my game π
||shameless plug||
it isn't
theyarethesamepic.jpg
should I boost this server for no reason?
give
Soonβ’οΈ
I'll open it up more once I presented the game to the wider public
tada
ignore the msg but that's my pfp when i boost a place
what kind of game are you making
without the box
how are we supposed to ignore this message
lol
anime style action RPG
or cropped
Apparently, not
no it's the first one i found
well well, look who's pink now
i swear
Imagine, if you search a bit more.
In other words, not something you'd likely play
Not much currently
It's still pretty much a one man project, so I'm not giving it publicity until I feel it good enough for public showing
like this
you have strange friends
Though if you have questions about general story or characters or more technical side of the game, feel free to ask me here, I do love to share ideas (and my tech art discoveries)
And speaking of green hair, my game have one party member with green hair. She's a young (14) and energetic mage.
do people just have green hair in your world or do they die it?
It's anime style, so the former
they need an anime where everybody has to remember to re-dye their hair all the time
Colorful hairs are expected with anime style naturally, so that's that.
It's hard to make a character stand out with real life hair color in anime style
Not to mention straight up black hair is messing with the banded cel shading
if i ever work at wendys
Also I'll brought this up: I'm targetting 17+ mature age rating for my game
Asking the real question here.
At the moment stat system is pretty generic RPG affair, not much deviation
As for the combat, I'm looking into having both melee and third person shooter hybrid combat
@quasi mantle play stray
Soon. I haven't bought it
π₯Ί
Still got many games on my wishlist to go
stray is top prio
Not for me at least
Though I do have the idea to make a cat RPG spinoff
Revolving the adventure of the protagonist's pet
cat rpg
today a dog kept following me
until i crossed the road
he wanted sth poor guy π₯Ί
When it's ready
I'm redoing the animations, currently it looked shit in motion
Also making the outfit
The main character is wearing two layer of tank top, a shorts (I don't know if I want to add skirt), and an unbuttoned military shirt
Her military shirt is the most painful to sew ngl
Not to mention she's having large breasts, so it kinda makes fitting the upper body clothes a little bit more difficult (but not giving proportional hindrance)
Well, not the cat, the soon to be owner is
The cat is just the pet (and spirit summon)
https://jigex.com/w4n6W time to put laura together
u got me interested in ur game
If you maintain the cat (Noriko) well, she'll have full power as a summon
show
Still an idea, I don't have the cat model yet (and not yet coded a functional summon system)
Still figuring out how to do the whole summon system without having to require lots of menuing
Well, it's an action RPG, not menu heavy turn based RPG
best of luck
Initial Fantasy
Final Reality
Cat pet and the big breasted owner
release when
When it's readyβ’οΈ
Though I still plan to have some alpha public demo soon, with just one dungeon, marketplace monsters, and subtitled dialogue only
Also featuring the green haired mage to showcase more than 2 party member size
(which interestingly, she's a daughter of an engineer)
hm
Here's a VRoid "sketch" of said green haired mage (haven't properly modified her for UE rig, still from VRoid Studio renderer).
I named her Mido Takatsuki. Her father is named Shido Takatsuki (referencing Final Fantasy's Cid naming)
where big breasts
She's still 14, still in growth period, and not the main character (but she's one of the party member on board)
o that's not the main one
nope lol
mentioned what π
Doesn't matter, mentioned.
Different character.
ye i confused the characters
The aforementioned big breasted character is the main character, but she's 19 and having dark gray hair
Not the green haired mage
meep
I miss au, I've only met him for like 2 days and he's gone already, friday the 13th curse π
@deep copper no, he didnt
he doesn't show in mutual servers anymore
how did he u manage to ping him i cant find him anymore
I will totally take the first few words of that sentence out of context
That's entirely on you
I have her as one of the characters for the sake of the story
oh, he planned to left, so someone else did play as him...
why would someone name themself after him tho? π
Not really, you did @ him
it was Laura checking out your link
no, she was there for a brief moment, tho
but i dont think that she puzzled actually
ahh thought she just used an alias
guess she would be more creative then
Also this reminds me of how Snatcher make Katrina older to 18 years old in the Sega CD port
I won't change anyone's age in my game's story until there's actual time skip progression.
If you think dirty stuff on Mido, that's entirely on you
Though to be fair Snatcher has shower scene on Katrina, my game doesn't have one
Also I'm still not sure if I should make one for the main playable character anyway, I want the fanservice to be optional and not shoehorned in the way of the main story
You can just add bonus content in the main menu or something.
Then it's entirely optional.
At best I can have bath tub scene as something you can do in safehouses π€
The story spans across multiple weeks, so the character should have a place to call home in the world
well I assumed it was to throw them off lol

Hey guys, so today I made up this quick little prototype game that I find to be pretty fun. Basically your running on a globe (tho rlly the globe is still and your just rotating around it), and you can turn left or right using mouse X input. The goal is to avoid this pillars that randomly spawn on the globe where the camera isnt looking, and despite not having a game over screen, its pretty fun. However, this game lacks a lot in looks, and I'm wondering where I should take the theme. Right now I'm using an orthographic camera and some unlit materials, but that won't cut it. If anyone has any idea's for a theme, please do feel free to share. Also, I'm calling it 'Globetrotter' for now.
It looks like the error I'm getting all the time. If it's the same, it shouldn't be corrupted. If you restart the editor and it goes back to normal it's the same error.
The Coast wizards getting roasted hard these days.
I thought the issue was they want to stop using it actually.
Ogl for lif
im not showing off a work in progress, asking for artistic advice

oh i thought that was a showoff channel
yeah i just come here when I have a general question that doesnt rlly have anything to do with code or needing help with a feature, moreso just for advice

There are also many templates you can use, many including "Verse" code as an example!

well u r not a mod
u have no power π
did anyone try out Verse?
Quick question, what type of mobile game style do you feel is better:
A: Infinite runner type where your timed on how long you can survive, and ur compared on a leaderboard with other players.
B: Level based, where the difficulty gets harder as you progress through the levels, you can beat them by surviving a certain amount of time, and beat ur PB for fun
Trying to get some input for the direction I should take this game, which I replied above if ur interested, but rlly I just want to hear ur opinions (AND YES THIS IS A LOUNGE QUESTION IM ASKING PEOPLE WHAT GAMES THEY LIKE MORE)
given those choices infinite runner but neither are my kind of game
do your sphere thing game but control it with gyroscope if you aim for mobile
this could be entertaining for like 5 minutes
Most of the revenue for mobile games goes to gacha games
you can send what's left to me
A is more replayable. B is more casual/non-competitive. It's almost a marketing question.
Infinite runner is probably easier and more interesting to create as a first game.
None of the above
I despise mobile gaming (even then I only have ONE mobile game I regularly play)
Premium pay to play games are no longer profitable in mobile game market
||and that's a copium I had to take||
ik im just gonna use ads
im sure u would love to be loaded down by dozens of advertisements per game
Ugh, nothing worse than shoving personal data to advertisers
You better off using paid currencies than trying to shoehorn ads in
yeah but noones gonna pay for an idle game they wouldnt play for more than an hour a day
ads are the only way im going to monetize off of my effort
and than I can offer them to pay for no ads
like every mobile game
Feel free to take the copium, the market is a shitshow
Mobile games only seem to exist to milk people with gambling/self-control problems out of their money
It's pretty much an evolution of arcade games
Instead of big and bulky machines, it's all in a device that fits into your pocket (or backpack, if you use tablets), and internet.
That was a good game.
Most arcade games didn't contain gotcha/randomized purchases... they're entirely different
If gaccha games didnt rely on purchasing characters I'd enjoy them a lot on mobile
If gaccha games didnt rely on purchasing characters... then they wouldn't be "gaccha"

it's your fault for removing the thumbnail
Gacha isn't just limited to mobiles, though. (not gotcha)
didn't even see your link
I never said it was
I was just playing genshin
And not all mobiles games have gacha elements.
Never said they do
Definitely a big problem in some of them, though, especially the Asian ones.
you're addressing points nobody made
Anime-ish style + gacha always sell well if its well designed from what I can see
on mobile
Gachapon always sells if you can get the collecting/gambling addicts in the door... Anime is just a lure here
Blue Archive in a nutshell
a mobile gacha game completely relies on waifu idea
but they have a system that can make characters pronounce your name in Japanese
Intakusu-sensei
which makes it more terrible
I only played 1 hour
It lags on my phone and it takes 15 minutes to load on bluestacks so..
switched to genshin instead
I just can't imagine wanting to play a game more complicated than Tetris on a small touch screen only device
I can't imagine wanting to play any of those
I only play JRPG or gachas that doesnt expect me to pay for the lore
OW2 is on Switch... I wouldn't play an FPS on anything that isn't a PC though
I haven't even heard of any JRPGs for mobile that have stories worth hearing
... Gacha means Gachapon... which is those capsule machines that give out random toys and candy.....
It's not a genre.... those are still (J)RPGs
you don't call games with loot boxes "Loot Box" games
Idk tbh I just lookup what wiki defines the game I'm playing, I was basically talking about Genshin/Honkai/Blue Archive type of games which turns into an interactive anime after some point
or with a battlepass "Battle Pass" games
so JPRGs
Arent JRPGs turn-based things
with Gacha acquisition mechanics
no they're RPGs from Japan
Depends on the game. Not all JRPGs are turn-based.
ah, ok
FF11, for instance, had a very fluid combat system.
well yeah then basically any JRPG on mobile*
or the Tales of games... which have fighting game combat
I believe when they also focus on gacha mechanics they mostly follow character-based narrative instead of plot-based one
so makes the story lighter
It's just harder to make real time combat on mobile, tbh.
It's easier to make turn based stuff.
anyway, genre discussion aside... I haven't heard of any mobile games with a decent story...
People talk up Genshin but I took a look and it was super generic and seemed like an exercise in attempting to incorporate all of the dumbest fantasy anime tropes in one property
Blue Archive is pretty much a visual novel with turn-based strategy thingy on top of it, and I liked the first hour a lot
literally an interactive anime
Whenever I see a mobile game -> anime series, there are always people saying how amazing the story/lore is and how excited they are to see certain characters and events in the anime.
It happens a lot.
Genshin wasnt bad either but too generic as you said
also takes too much time to level up follow the narrative
yeh there are people saying it, but I'm asking are there actually any that you can personally vouch for being good... I'm asking for names to be named
I don't play mobile games or gacha games, so I have no idea.
The latest one I heard about from its fanbase was arknights, though.
right that's why I was asking Eren since they said they play them for the story
I'm assuming this list will be illuminating.
A list doesn't have a conversation and a conversation isn't required to be illuminating.
I'm not asking because I'm going to play these games.... I'm asking so I can ask more questions once I have some answers
so a list does nothing for me because I want personal answers from the person I'm talking to
conversation isn't required to be illuminating you love to argue against points nobody is making
"Haven't heard of any mobile gmaes with a decent story"
I mention one and link a website which talks about the best gacha games, which I assume will have some with a good story
"How does that help?"
yeh that's skipping a ton of the conversation
I played Blue Archive for 1 hour and Genshin for 12 hours or something
Honkai for another 1 hour
Evertale (0.1 cent paid game) still playing, gameplay wise doesnt satisfy anything but lore is nice
Best story was blue archive so far and it made me want to play other ones
Which of them would you say had the best story and what would be a brief summary of what you liked about the story
sorry I was slow to type
what did you like about Blue Archive (story wise)
Characters (some of them) can pronounce your name in dialogues and story wasnt much different than a regular isekai anime, and they use livelink 2d (or whatever its called) so you can interact with characters so they play animation etc instead of just being plain drawings sometimes
For first hour you watch tons of cinematics and it was very chill to just lay down and watch like an anime for me
cool appreciate you typing all that out but I was more asking about the story, I get that it's presented well but is the content of the story actually good?
Its not awesome yet, from the point I could reach in one hour you just meet an evil girl causing trouble in city and you are the guy/girl who is responsible of securing the city. And other characters usually spend time with you so you learn their own background story. Basically you live in anime world where somehow magically everyone is a girl with an automatic rifle and they have that classic "anime girl character" backgrounds
So just following the plots with that style amused me
ahh I see
I'm usually drawn more towards RPGs with a clearly dictated main story
like Final Fantasy, Tales of, or RPGs from the SNES era
this one probably would bore you a lot then
character stories are more to flesh out the main story imo. they shouldn't be all the story
sounds like it tbh
I don't want a virtual world or to make my own character really
I just want an interactive movie/book
just for an example if you would get curious a lot and wanted to try one of the similar types of game probably you'd only find what you are looking for in Honkai or Genshin though - even though they wouldnt be an example of proper plot-based story RPG
yeh that's why I looked into Genshin but it just seemed to generic
which doesn't give me the feeling that the story will be something I'd be invested in
I wouldnt say its worth the time - especially since you need to waste at least one week to reach the target character level so you can continue story with cinematics etc
its only good to kill time
yeh that's the other thing... if I wanna kill time I'll play something more game-y than an RPG
at worst case I'd watch this π€£ https://youtu.be/pahK44Cd8H4

...
RPGs are story dispensers to me.... the gameplay isn't the draw
I've seen a couple of these already.... they're part of why I decided it looked generic.... they also told me if I do play to turn on Japanese voices
I dunno why it's so hard to do dubbing but it apparently is
yeah English voiceover is mediocre
speaking of VAs I had one of those "I recognize that voice" moments the other day when I realized Mikasa from Attack on Titan and 2B from Nier Automata have the same VA in Japan
I haven't played Nier Automata yet, but I had seen parts of it and it was always with the English voice
but then I saw a Japanese clip and recognized the voice lol
where can i showcase stuff?
right. is it me or was there a showcase channel at some point?

Unfortunately, there will be no Visual Blueprint Scripting available, unlike the regular Unreal Engine Build which does support Visual Blueprint Scripting.
So BP is a no go for Fortnite dwellers
Also means they have to go with Verse
More battle testing for Verse. I'm good with this
TBH the one I'm waiting the most on is UGC/mod support for Unreal Engine 5 in general, considering the older UGC plugin is completely busted in UE5
I want to give my game mod support in the future
I'm inclined to think it's a side effect of the engine opened up to the public under the EULA
Back then only UDN guys have the proper Unreal Editor and can be bundled in the game for end users to mod with
These days you'd need to go through Epic Games Store to publish the editor as a mod kit
I think it's easier if you don't use modified engine built from source
one terrible other way of modding unreal is implementing a scripting language you can hot reload properly and letting users modify your script in project files instead
cough pavlov did ue modding right cough
Pavlov had the benefit of using vanilla launcher build, specifically UE4.21
Using modified source build does make mod support more difficult
TIL branch predictors became popular on microcontrollers because Java performance was terrible
TIL branch predictors became popular on microcontrollers becauseJava performance was terrible
Fixed that for you
Java performance
wasis terrible
revision 2
might as well just use c# vs java
they both use the main string args[] thing
and microsoft is better imo
the tiobe index would show whos more popular as is tho; i think python and c are top dogs this year from what little i remember
that said, java isn't that terrible. there are slower things out there. like python.
from what i've seen, python is worse than javascript by a factor of 2, and then they are both worse then c# and c++, which are much more comparable, tho c++ is still faster. It's just that when you look at the bigger picture, that c# and c++ are much closer than you'd imagine. plus c# has memory management features, so its sort of a win win without much of a trade off, and unless c++ is necessary, perfomance is critical, or the dataset is massive, you might be better off in c#.
but this is unreal, so bit of a moot point.
c# has new stuff recently tho, .NET MAUI is a single-code base, multi-platform, style of app development that leverages XAML and C#
looks b e a u t i f u l

If someone can explain me why MS win decided that when your second monitor boots a bit slower on wake up, all windowses must be relocated to it? (β―Β°β‘Β°)β―οΈ΅ β»ββ»
What usually happens after sleep is that it moves the windows to my main monitor and when the 2nd one wakes up it moves the ones that were there before to the 2nd one
I'm on win11
win10
My main wakes up slower and it moves all stuff on it.
I'm considering to screw the planet and never allow it to sleep.
Just PC sleep when the time comes.
Oh that behaviour was different on win10, I remember it being weird
Win11 remembers where the windows were
hmm... at least one reason to switch to win11
Tbf in windows 11 the multi monitor experience got a lot better
And it has functionality from powertoys natively implemented
toys?
The window tool that you can download for like splitting the work area into different sections so you can dock the windows, I don't know how to explain it lol
But win10 can do that too? Left, top, expand, etc - with kbd shortcuts.
On win11 there is a whole lot more options, and it splits the area differently if it's a vertical, horizontal, ultra wide, etc..
It's pretty useful
hmm...

I'm kinda sad I know this game is actually genshin, my bros family is addicted.
Out of context, it's unique and has more personality. Maybe it makes no sense for the character or the scene, and that's a shame.
Pretty good at milking, ngl
He swears the story & world are very good, but forgive me Makoto, I wanna puke - so cringe.
That π° video said Elden ring looks like indie game compared to it.
You switch chars in milliseconds, have tons of combos between them and elemental-based abilities.
Bro swears it can be very strategic.
mmm... I think they are pretty different, and I havent touched botw
Was that the one in #industry-chat? It compares FIFA Ultimate Team with Elden Ring in the first minutes. I don't remember where else it compared Elden Ring's earnings.
Ah... well botw seems more zeldish, this is average anime, button mashing style
Later down the road, take it with grain of pepper, as I haven't checked myself.
Elden Ring didn't earn an earth-shattering amount. The comparison is likely centered on Elden Ring's authentic (for lack of a better word) gameplay contrasting with its limited success.
I never said it is badly made, on the contrary, animations, char design, story, art, amount of content, championship in milking money and inspiring addiction... - it is pretty good game.
I'd hope a studio would not spent the same amount making fall guys as making elden ring (no disrespect to fall guys... maybe a little).
Fall guys? Yet another DS?
Do you think lootbox systems make an effort to use true randomness?
lmao
hides own lootbox efforts
Imagine loosing money, no - missing to earn money.
I don't mean non-weighted randomness. I mean using a true random number generator instead of PRNG.
A gacha game using lavarand won't be out of place IMHO
After all, you don't want your player to figure out a pattern to exploit the gacha system, pulling more desired items in certain times and amount
Someone reverse engineered the critical hit system for TF2 and made a hack where you'd always crit. I was intrigued. Valve's solution was also intriguing: They abandoned client-side sync, and from then on the visuals for critical hits were delayed by your ping.
I think you could use pseudo-perpetual physical mechanism and determine randomness by that, or probing to atmospheric noise
There's a lot of approaches for true randomness, but most are rate limited because whoever wrote the whitepaper is assuming you need perfect cryptographic security, rather than just good enough security and a LOT of numbers.
Imagining a room of lava lamps somewhere powering the gacha industry... love it.
If I develop one, I would love to go to such great length to ensure true randomness.
Make a convoluted lootbox system with different results based on the lunar cycle, or a hash from the latest post in #lounge
In game events based on a lunar cycle or some other obscure thing sounds kinda interesting (not lootbox stuff but in general) π€
There's been several games that have done that for an in-game cycle. Never heard of it based on the IRL lunar cycle though.
Not counting holiday-themed easter eggs that occur on holiday dates.
I'd love to see an MMO with deep ecosystem mechanics. Like overhunting foxes for the fetch quest leads to an excess of wild chickens, leading to a wave of consequences through the ecosystem.
Subnautica had multiple planetary cycles that led to some odd behaviors from the creatures. No real ecosystem sim though.
Just reading that's gave me an idea for an editor tool for like a cause and effect relationships graph π
BehaviorForestβ’
And then there's Indiana Jones and the temple of "you need the ray of sunshine to be hitting this exact spot or all the traps spring at once".
Lol
he's not coming back
ultima online had that, but players did what humans do best
I mean, I'm partly responsible for persuading him to leave for his own sake
I also learned the hard way.
At least no one has been offended by me using Nitro to use anime emoji and react like this
I would expect au to either get banned (which i gave up on that hope after mods didnt do anything after one week of +18 gif and nfsw convo in lounge) or leave after a heated debate instead of after a friendly suggestion tbh
but since the beginning of the year he was pretty much passive-aggressively protesting attitude against himself so I'm not surprised much too
I'm suspecting this is how a new, upcoming generational community is behaving. Like there are ppl who enjoy similar behaviour and are likely young.
I'm not sure, I think at least for now I believe its just creepiness attracting other creeps - none of my friends or people I met outside of the slackers would define similar behaviors as normal
Damn youngins with their anime and strange emo roleplay, never understood the real entertainment of TV and letters
Anime got mainstream last decade or two, but we also watched a lot (00s say). Emos were not also something new too.
emos were cool
reject modernity, embrace tradition
Heard being young and not liberal and growing old and conservative - means you are crazy.
I'm not buying that.
Where did you heard that from?
I don't remember π
hehe
Then you won't remember 21st night of September either

Proposal for a game:
The core gameplay loop is opening loot boxes. Some boxes contain other boxes, some boxes contain cosmetic items, some boxes contain items that influence loot box contents and RNG, but that's it, just loot boxes.
Drum emoji because I love playing drums
maybe a profile page to show off your wins, and maybe a way to share your wins with others
those can be paid dlc
Even cosmetic only can go quite far
So you mean every modern AAA game?
Nothing is lamer than using stock or low rarity skins
Especially in screenshots
nope, no fluff of running around and doing stuff
go for pure gacha
Reducing the AAA experience to its core, I see...
what is the reward
it'd go well with an idle sim
bragging rights if you bought the dlc
ah, you work for ea i see
its a beautiful morning and i am already working on something again :3
Now finish it
i am
EA, aka shoehorning gacha in the wrong market
I don't know if EA decision makers ever learn from eastern gacha games that are actually embraced with open arms
Specifically EA? Ooh, they know, they know.
And yet somehow they're still struggling to have a gacha game that is embraced like Genshin Impact
Fifa
But lets consider the east vs west
In many ways it pioneers from a region which is hardly accessed from other companies.
Also, they (EA) get good enough money from their games. So somewhere there must be champion, currently - genshin.
Its live will be limited tho, nothing is forever and it will survive some years before another game(s) take over.
It is not coincidence that western companies get roasted for "licking" east's politics so they can get access to their market. For example, the recent movies like Mulan or other pop stars come to mind.
Are we just slapping people this morning?
Wasn't recent Mulan just one of shoddy Disney remake? The original '98 movie is actually good though
i agree
It's kinda weird to say Mulan movie is an attempt to "lick" eastern market, when in reality it's just Disney attempting to "modernize" bastardize classic animated movies
Mulan was terrible
Kinda, because I'm not denying the possibility, but if that's the case, from what I've seen, it doesn't seem to be what Disney is prioritizing when they bastardize the original movie into the current abomination
To be fair though, the original Mulan movie from 1998 isn't as much talked as other classic Disney animated movies like Aladdin
Maybe it's just me, but I do feel like the OG flew under the radar to many collective memories. I recall watching it as a kid way back when
Did you know if the followed the original story of "Aladdin" it would also take place in China?
the story comes from the middle east but it doesn't take place there
but it also kinda didn't take place in China because the author clearly knew little about China and just said it takes place in "one of the cities of China"; other than that it might as well have taken place in the middle east
If you dont quiet down i will slap you too
dont you dare raise your voice against me
i want au back
rather someone who asks for hugs, than someone who threats with slaps...
if au were here you'd have both
what's up
Strike for inciting violence!
you felt the urge to make it 63, right?
I'm not big on violence but I do think it's somewhat funny that glinnevier out here laying down the law one hand whoop at a time
at the same time, be careful lol
i am out. youre all mean.
That's wrong
Violence isn't against the #rules
Wholesomeness is a lie, a propaganda
Don't get blinded by what's unreal, sheeple
hi
well explicitly no, but if lounge is about being chill, then not being chill is against the rules, contra to the stay on topic rule, right?
That's where you're wrong... friendo.
so in a way, isn't glinn just keeping us all chill by being a little unchill?
hello
Violence and uncivil topics run deep in the vein of lounge
I see
would you help me?
it is
- sorry but this ain't the help desk
- how are you?
If it's about dad not bringing milk, sorry, I can't
i have a question but i dont know ask where place?
Ask away.
well I can atleast direct you to the right place to ask (maybe this is the help desk...)
I am not good at English because I am Korean.
im not kidding about that, the directory is pretty extensive. and sorry, I don't mean to be rude or standoffish here. Your english is fine, don't worry.
hi, i'm ben
I'm dad
Shut up dad, you're being abusive and narcissistic.
so i have a so problem
what happens to be the nature of your issue? graphics? sound? etc?
the channel topics are divided by uh, area of expertise.
i will make in colision
my player
than enermy is follw me
its my code
but enemy not walk
Formulate your problem in one message and post these on the dedicated help channel like #ue4-general
but follow to slide
Not to be rude, but it would be nice if you explain what's your problem in one go in #ue4-general. Google Translate or DeepL can give readable English for you.
google translate is pretty solid ngl
oh
Also consider using English language for the editor
you may want to use Simple Move To on your AI Controller, instead of Add Movement Input
its all good, i think i got some of what your saying
Ben, go help your mom with the dishes
its an autonomus function
yeah add movement adds velocity in a given direction where Move To is more like a directive to move somewhere right?
who are you calling a bard?
this will use pathfinding/navigation to move to a location, instead of pushing your enemy around
hey you can't call me out like that xD
Maybe they meant beard?
feel the power of the beard
I meant in regards to some of what xero said earlier, but I was just sorta playing
yee
did you know that tears are like urin
if you have a beard..
and you dont clena it
Beards are known to buff damage and intimidation. Sometimes.
nope you just got the class wrong... I'm some kind of DPS that taunts and has lifesteal
oh.. my mistake
so fair lol
irl i have bard energy sometimes, but i play different classes for fun in games like dnd
How can she slap?
i usually play warlock or spell caster or rogue mb
OK found a better gif
this is me in DnD
Shoe pics?
calm down there Dali
I made a visual studio theme for the old green gameboy, and a dark version
this is Rider country
i forgot it is rider country
its so eyebleedin' green, but Idk i was looking at old gameboy stuff and thats what struck me the most was the green
No, Xero has still PTSD from #cpp
what would give me PTSD there?
is uh... what's rider's cpp app called again... is riders cpp app any good?
Rider
i bought a license, never used it, still have it till next oct, and am just sort of using VS
Rider is good though
π―
Lol
it all makes sense i am sleep deprived and foolish
but thats neither here nor there, anyway, rider, is it any good?
JB has Rider and CLion for c++, but Rider is what you want for UE
yes... I started this off by saying many of us use Rider over VS (I could have been more verbose)
VS needs R# (or VAX) anyway
for UE stuff
just use rider?!
unless you like IntelliSense garbage warnings
it's not like VS would be any better
but the license
Yeah they help
here I'll give you my whole macro
VS is free for small teams
you said you bought one?!
yeah
Visual Studio's IntelliSense does not fully understand Unreal Engine macros and generated code.
This causes incorrect warnings from IntelliSense.
To fix this you need to get ReSharper (R#) or Visual Assist (VAX) for Visual Studio. Those are plugins that augment/replace IntelliSense.
Another option is to switch IDEs from Visual Studio to Rider which has ReSharper built in.
If you decide to use Visual Studio make sure you're using Visual Studio 2022.
ReSharper (R#), Visual Assist (VAX), and Rider all cost money, but there are free trials.
ReSharper (R#), Rider, and other JetBrains products also have a free student version if you're in school.
if you have it until oct, this sounds like you had a 1 year license, which will never expire for the current version
And free projects
you can keep using the rider version from when you bought it forever
wait so you buy a 1 year license, you get forever access to that rider version?
yes
oh shit
knowing jetbrains quality, that deal isn't so bad
like their java ide is the best in class imo
its just a dream to write code in
as long as you had a license for a full year and then you can download the last version in that period forever
not the last
you get the one from the bought date, iirc if you bought when 2022 was a thing you can use any 2022.x.x version
if 2023.x is released within that time, it's not covered by your license
it was mostly that feeling of paying 200 dollars a year. idk expensive things kinda kill my sense of creativity. like a 30 dollar sketchbook vs a 5 dollar pack of printer paper? id go for the printer paper every time
either way my point was you need it for a full year at least to qualify
unless you extend for the months that passed by then
So if I buy the license for Rider 2.5.7 or something I can download it forever?
as long as you paid for at least 1 year
Sad world we live in, if this is now so unexpected
i bought the 1 year license and then the refund period passed so i never asked for any money back but i still have the license
That's a good deal
well sounds like you got it before the price raise so good job
well i thought it was a subscription
it is
technically
and therein is the issue. the perpetual fallback licensing terms were unfamiliar to me, and again, foolish for not reading the contract closely
and if you sub for at least 1 year you can keep an old copy
pay or die
Affinity even has a universal license for 140 canadian iirc
but you need to keep a sub to get the latest (and you want the latest Rider is under heavy development)
part of it to is that rider is in USD and the CAD exchange rate sux
JB is based in the EU I thought
denominated in usd for canadians tho i guess
sure I just meant the main entity
I had this conversation before where someone was convinced Adobe needs to price their software like that or they'll go under and die
It was an odd one
yeah i have fallback for 2022.2
until sept 29 2023
hmm
literally the day before the price increase lol
are they doing another one? I thought it was last fall
no they aren't afaik. your right it was last fall.
How many times does Rider update in a year
Can't you just use the experimental version and not have to pay for it?
hard to say... so they do Early Access Programs before each release and those are free to anybody. Rider has had a ton of EAPs over the past 2 years, but maybe only 6 or so releases
EAP has to be active
and to be fair it has been like 80% of the past 2 years
EAP?
early access program
Oh sorry
Rider is just a beta confirmed
all cool
Oh. That sucks
so is it wisest to just use the fallback ver and not the latest ver then, given the fall back terms?
and only use latest if you have a sub?
There's a free 30 day trial or a free student version going on all the time
Im kinda thinking so
yeh unless you feel like it's worth getting updates at that point... after all the sub is about the same cost as for World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV
personally I think it's definitely worth the sub for a tool that makes your work easier (so Rider or R#)
True enough eh
and jetbrains is a solid company, again, I've used IntelliJ and found it to be the best IDE I found, and i literally tried the rest beforehand
none of them made my life as easy as IntelliJ
I will say that I DO NOT like the new UI for Rider (and other JB products) that they're working on but I have faith they'll add options to make it more similar to the current one
dang hey
it's all VSCode like
Ill give it a spin then, if not for the quality, for the fmailiary
F
vscode urgh
vscode is super popular tho
thats probably why
its like the notepad plus plus of professional ides tho lmao
I got the DotUltimate bundle and got R# (and some other stuff) with Rider for only ~$10 more a year than just getting Rider
so I can always escape to VS if I hate the new UI (and it's forced)
I probably should have done that.
Wait
it looks like there are plenty of ways to get discount licenses
It just saddens me you need like a billion subscriptions for good workflow.
Creative cloud, rider, Spotify premium, the list goes on
yeah like I paid for 2022.2, and get access to 2022.2 for ever
ah do they
fair enough
sorta like the personal vs biz license restrictions
what is cc
All the Adobe apps.
Illustrator, prem pro, after affects, Photoshop etc
Laura πΉ
btw (and I can't believe Laura didn't say this yet) using Rider doesn't get you away from the VS licensing requirements
you still need the VS toolkit (for UE)
Bruuuuh
??????????
@sand oxide so what happened with AU yesterday ?
I'm not sure if I understand
yeh I should have mentioned this is in a UE context
oh dear
weird, one product to access another, proprietary, tho free product?
weird
i'm proprietary
VS isn't free under all circumstances
yeah true
aww thank you
if your team is big enough you need to pay... and you'll need to anyway even if you use Rider since you need the toolkit to build with UBT
eew creep
π
I think that's mainly people who are thinking debug is like it was in the beta days of Rider
it's nearly the same as VS now
is NigeyS a woman ?!!!
can i just set breakpoints and step thru things?
i'm not sure i still understand, do i have to pay microsoft too?
not the last time i checked π
if you needed to pay MS to use VS on your project... you still need to pay MS to use Rider with UE
hmm okay
I like intellij a lot honestly, its a hard call lol
oh shit
mind blown a little
but... but u said my pfp cute
or r u serious about that ?
I think you broke their 2 neuron brain
I'm just going to fire up rider up and give it a look... dl in progress
its been a minute anyway
did i ask u for a hug ?
to add to this... it's creepy no matter who you do this to or the genders involved
talking about AU try to follow
currently
π
last question π
So if I plan to release my Game commercially, I need to have a Visual Studio subscription and Rider sub both?
i know, but still do not compare me with anyone, exactly when i did not ask anyone anything
...nobody was
I think you're a bit lost
So just Rider?
wait rider can open vs studio sln's and proj's directly?
damn dude
this is wonderful
Any individual can sign up for Visual Studio Community to create their own free or paid apps. There are restrictions for organizations that wish to use Visual Studio Community. For more information, visit the Visual Studio Community page.
If VS community covers your usage you only need to pay for Rider if you're using it; if VS Community doesn't you'll need to pay for VS as well.
i can see why you all use it
Okayyyy
i've read the terms for VS
Me too
free for teams under 5 iirc?
the terms aren't terrible
start your own company, bill yourself time
yeah but its like under 100 machines, under 100k, and under 10 employees
if you're a startup
ez
.uprojects directly is a newer feature, it was kinda buggy when I last used it a year ago but a ton of people use it currently without issue
4 hours? what is this a light day? I work from home 12+ hours a day almost every day
my work from home involves 4 monitors and a desk
on that 996 grind honestly
am i burnout almost all the time? also yes
when someone works 5000hours per day
in all seriousness, take care of yourselves ok
this.. intense work culture stuff is rough.
it all depends if you're working intensely because you want to or if you feel pressured (gonna depend on work situation)
but at the same time, theres a ton of work to do at a startup, and sometimes you gotta pull the wagon
yeah true
its also variable as xero says
working all the time because you feel like it and have nothing better to do is fine
