You can look from references from your favorite stories in any media. But my general rule is to make a character for the sake of the character, and make him/her someone that people can relate or get attached to interact with.
Appearance/character design can play a role on that as well, but it's not super mandatory.

One shouldn’t be dependent on a significant other as that only leads down a bad path. Specifically someone who is manipulative will see an opportunity to take advantage of you.

Raising the level cap seemed dumb. There's probably an ulterior motive there somewhere, but you'd think the monthly subscription would mitigate the benefit of coercing people into buying an expansion.
