So I have this friggin' road spline. It's supposed to act as a well-driven dirt road. Grooves in the mesh from car tyres, perhaps also a place to pool some rainwater.. Ultimately it's a standalone mesh. Now.. I CAN take that, blend it with the landscape base dirt material and call it a day. But then i am only doing this because I can't tesselate landscape in UE5, and the road needs detail you can't get by simply sculpting as the scale is too small

I can carry on and just do the road separately, pay the cost for a high poly mesh spline and have my visuals, or delete it, and try to work with VHM on the landscape and someone carve one into the VHM, but every time i do it, they look garage

You can get a perfectly good super-bright red in SRGB.
Try to do that in HDR and it goes orange, and then violet edit: actually no, it's bright blue that becomes violet. Strangely, green doesn't change much, maybe slightly more pale.

Youtube won't play HDR on a non-hdr screen unless you fool it first by loading it with hdr enabled. And then you get the perfectly normal case where it scales the hdr color so that the scene is extremely dim in SDR.
Maybe it's because HDR isn't the same as even HDRI... I think it's intended to emulate the color and contrast of film images, rather than truly expand the color gamut.
